#1 Especially for delivery in a B-52. That would be a MegaMoab.

#2 OOH! Looks like someone is coordinating press releases and leaks now! So far so good, as long as it means what I think it means! :-)

#3 The US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) announced on 15 March the successful test of a 30,000 lb (13,600 kg) conventional bomb, which is designed to destroy hardened underground facilities.

This one's for you, Mahmoud, baby.

#4 The US Defense Threat Reduction Agency

That would be reduction, as in 'Your facility is reduced to a pile of rubble'.

#5 Wonder how much of it is explosives. The 5,000 pound GBU-28 is only 630 pounds of tritonal, the rest is iron.

#6 It's called the "Massive Ordnance Penetrator," or "MOP" for short.

Gives a whole new meaning to the term "mopping up."

#7 woid problem: with a strap on solid fuel rocket pack. 30,000 lbs + plus rocket pack.

Dropped from 50,000 feet, terminal velocity @ ground, 2000 thousand MPH [rocket assist].

13607.7711 kilos
4473.88 m/s velocity

Kinetic Energy @ ground-pound point =
136,183,866,953.2596 Joules. [not counting explosive]

140 grn bullet moving at speed of 1000 ft per second = 40 Joule [way approx]

1 foot pound = 1.3558179 Joule

1 joule = 0.000947817 Btu
proof math..

mathBhard I forgot the question.

#9 And whats best, no radioactive fallout to deal with.

That's American ingenuity.

In WWII, the Air Force use to write on the ordinance before dropping them. I image they probably did it in the later wars too.

Sarcastic suggestions as to what to write are on these puppies welcomed.

#10 Delphi-

I know one popular one my old B-52 unit uded during Desert Storm was, "If you can read this...you're dead."

#21 During GWI, our carrier's Morale Suppression Squad made us discontinue the practice of writing on bombs hung on the trusty Intruder soon to be delivered. No good reason was given, but I later found out the head of the MSS was a Hornet driver so I think there was a little Delivery Envy there ( 26K of bombs vs. 9)
