#1 "Sea level readings indicate a tsunami was generated," the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said on its Web site. "It may have been destructive along coasts near the earthquake epicenter and could also be a threat to more distant coasts."

It did not have details on the size of the tsunami.

#8 According to Reuters, 78 known dead, quake centered near the college town of Concepcion, some damage to buildings and roads/bridges. Nothing like Haiti, though, because earthquakes are fairly common in Chili, so they build appropriately. AP has more, including historical perspective:

The largest earthquake ever recorded struck the same area of Chile on May 22, 1960. The magnitude-9.5 quake killed 1,655 people and left 2 million homeless. The tsunami that it caused killed people in Hawaii, Japan and the Philippines and caused damage to the west coast of the United States.

#17 A huge wave measuring 7.7 feet (2.34 metres) crashed onto the Chilean coastal town of Talcahuano early Saturday triggered by a massive earthquake, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.

Talcahuano is on a deep north facing bay about 100 km south of the epicenter. The bay would have concentrated the tsunami.

I doubt the wave will amount to much on the other side of the Pacific.

No but its clearly the fault of the previous administration.

#29 Has anyone blamed it on Globull Worming yet?

Give it a couple of days. The GW religion is full of people like Danny Glover, whose thought processes and understanding are so garbled that they think climate affects earthquakes, or the other way round, etc.
