#1 I am guessing that they want to cap the well and come back later to install another BOP in series with the one they mangled in their hurry to meet their Holy Drilling Schedule.

Are they planning on this being some kind of permanent fix? Is this cap supposed to completely seal off the well?

#3 The cap will have to be a temporary fix, and it won't seal the leak in, but hopefully channel it to where it can be safely captured without spilling into the gulf, at least until the relief wells can be drilled into the bore and the bore plugged with cement.

In the long term, any exploitation of that particular pocket of oil is going to have to involve a new undamaged wellbore separate from both the old damaged one and the relief wells. So if in the future anyone suddenly needs the oil there anyway, they're going to have to start from scratch in order to get a controllable well.

#4 This hasn't stopped the rest of the world from drilling (including the Gulf). Norway just started a new drill sight off their deep water shelf.

#5 I'm sure Rantburgers will like this way of stopping the oil...

#8 CHINESE MIL FORUM > [Video]PROMINENT OIL INSIDER: THERE IS ANOTHER OIL LEAK, MUCH BIGGER THAN DEEPWATER AND 5-6 MILES AWAY.

* ION VARIOUS > BP DOES NOT KNOW HOW MUCH OIL LIES IN UNDERSEA RESERVOIR.

#9 Seriously, nuke it. It has worked too many times.
We pay plenty for em, may as well get some payoff for it.

#10 "U.S. engineers, led by Energy Secretary Steven Chu, yesterday told BP of "grave concerns" about drilling mud, and the company halted the process, White House energy and climate adviser Carol Browner said on CBS's "Face the Nation" broadcast."

And just what the hell do you politicians know about oil drilling? NOTHING.

""At the end of the day, the government tells BP what to do," Browner said on NBC's "Meet the Press.""

So if you didn't own this mess before, you own it NOW, a**hole.

Where's Bambi? Why can't The Won™ magically stop the oil from flowing? Too busy "slowing the rise of the oceans"?

Idiots, the lot of 'em. >:-(
