Hoffman and Rubin were Yippies who were into guerilla theater in the streets. Sometimes violence followed. They were part of the Chicago 7 back in the 60's era.

Hayden was married to Jane Fonda as I recall. He authored the Port Huron Statement, and was a founder of SDS (which had a violent streak). He was much more than a flower-power peacenik. If he is warning of the dangers of Samantha Powers, I'd be worried about her appointment.
