#6 I don't think he's wrong - ISIS et al are probably not existential threats to us. at least not physically. If they threaten our existence psychologically, that's our own failing. We don't need to go big footprint, big war on them - just quietly target anyone we can get and otherwise ignore them. We certainly don't need all his babbling.

#10 Glenmore, my theory is that they are a symptom of existential threat. ISIS is just the latest version of jerk water death cults dripping out of the ME.

We used to rely on the Maxim Gun and breach loading cannon to keep them at home with their goats, now we have nukes, Arab-specific bombs and a heavy that could starve them out in 18 months. What is lacking is maturity in the west.
