#7 I can see a whole bunch of Russian techs banging their heads against their tables, desks, whatever is hard enough to hurt and is handy. Goat herders and high tech AA missile systems are not miscible. Except when maybe aiming missiles at said goat herders.

#8 This reminds of a book I read back in the days before the Internet. A Russian defector from the GRU said they sold what they called "Monkey Copies" of armored vehicles to the Middle East. The real tanks would have filters for an over pressure system to keep out gas and radioactive particles. They would have different light filters for the optical systems, infra red, ultra violet etc. Instead of electrical powered traverse the copy would have a manual traverse. The Russians had what was in effect traveling depot level repair yards and there was no way the Arabs and such could staff one of those.
