#2 back in 1957 over 400 died from Hurricane Audrey which followed about the same path as Laura

Hurricanes Rita and Ike which also followed about the same path as Laura had 100 to 200 deaths each

Laura's path was forecast quite well by the NHCenter, which 84 hours before landfall had the path and landfall timing almost perfect;

the forecast of wind strength wasn't as good, the category 4 winds were not predicted until about 36 hours before landfall; t

the storm surge was overpredicted even as late as 6 hours before landfall
