I got to meet a Berlin escapee who came to work at our British Hostel'in Hilden Germany, we were staying at while we awaited quarters (1962-63).

Even then years later, it was clear that the "Candy Bomber" (Gail Halvorsen) was a Folk hero.

BTW: The Berlin escapee had another nickname for Mr. Halvorsen besides the 2 listed above????
