#3 Extraordinarily reckless and foolish. This will, at most, merely prolong the war and with it, the Ukrainians' agony. Biden is ensuring that all of the east of Ukraine will be reduced to ruins. The outcome will be the same -- a Russian victory and the loss of a substantial portion of Ukrainian territory. More innocents will die and more people around the world will become poorer or starve.

Just as he did during his Asian trip, Biden's foolish and incendiary behavior is creating chaos and havoc in every situation he touches.

Just like Biden assured Putin that NATO would not deploy Tomahawks on his border.

#6 Personally, I think it's a total waste of money as it looks like Ukraine will soon no longer exist as a country. I suspect east of the Dnepr River, will all be part of Russian and West of the Dnepr River will possibly become part of Poland as it used to be.

#7 Daily Beast - Kremlin TV Names the Country Putin Will Invade Next

Excerpt:

The first in line is apparently Poland, with Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev baselessly claiming on Tuesday that Poland is moving to seize territories in western Ukraine and accusing numerous unnamed countries of “actively working to dismember Ukraine.” Meanwhile, on Russian state TV hosts and pundits routinely refer to Ukraine as “the territory formerly known as Ukraine” and matter-of-factly discuss how many millions of Ukrainians might have to die for Russia to complete its so-called “denazification.” In his recent interview, Russian State Duma Deputy Defense Committee Chairman Vladimir Shamanov, former Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Airborne Troops, admitted that Russia “was built through territorial enlargement” and named Poland as one of Russia’s main adversaries.

#8 Currently, the Russians are launching attacks on the west Ukrainian railroad tunnel through which fuel and arms enter Ukraine from Poland and the West.

After Donbas, the Russians will focus on taking the final piece of the puzzle, Odesa.

At that point Ukraine will be completely dead economically. The government will have no revenues and will be totally dependent on Congress, and Zelensky (assuming he does not flee and is not deposed in another US-backed coup) will effectively be an employee of the State Department.

It would be prudent to begin negotiations posthaste.

#9 "baselessly claiming on Tuesday that Poland is moving to seize territories in western Ukraine"

baselessly - LOL

Zelensky has essentially removed the border, waiving customs and duties and offering citizenship to Poles. He is inviting Polish soldiers to enter Ukraine and join the fight.

The Poles see their opportunity and are moving aggressively to exploit it.

#10 It has long been obvious that Zelensky's goal is to set off an all-out war of the USA vs Russia.

Putting Polish soldiers in harm's way is an excellent means to that end.

Exactly! That is why he had Ukraine launch an all out invasion of the poor Russians and tried to drive onto Moscow!!

Moron.

#12 Immediately after Biden into the White House and brought back Victoria Newland and the entire team from 2014, Zelensky announced his intention to seize Crimea. Throughout the summer of 2021, the Biden administration raised the ante with provocative actions including June 2021's hostile US-UK naval maneuvers right next to the base at Sevastopol itself.

The final straw occurred on November 10, 2021, when Zelensky and Biden signed a formal agreement to seize Crimea. This “charter on strategic partnership” pledged that Ukraine would join NATO and underscored what it called the US-Ukrainian “unwavering commitment” to the absorption of Crimea, and its extraordinarily important Russian naval base, by Ukraine.

The parallels with World War One are obvious.

Putin, like all of the national leaders in August 1914, believed he had to attack before NATO attacked and seized Crimea. Again, Zelensky and the US president had formally pledged their nation's to seize Crimea. The US had been engaging in threatening naval exercises next to Crimea.

In the face of this clear demonstration of both the intention and the capability to seize the most valuable military, strategic, economic and political territory that Russia possesses outside its main two cities, Putin decided that he must attack before NATO attacked and seized Crimea.

#13 *Victoria Nuland

The return of Biden and the Maidan coup-plotters, along with Bidens reckless and absurd rhetoric directed personally or Putin, only helped convince the Russians that the new US administration was intent on seizing Crimea.

#16  'The Ukrainians have given us assurances that they will not use these systems against targets in Russian territory,'

And if you can't trust the Ukrainians...

Dateline: the near future
In a last-ditch defiant effort, Zelensky raised a defiant middle finger in the form of a long-range rocket attack on Moscow itself. "*Bleep* you, you Russian *bleep*ers.", the President was quoted as defiantly saying.

#18 The Russian tactics are quite different from how they've been presented by the official sources in the West. This American analyst seems to have a more solid grasp:

“It has been assumed that the Russians were trying to generate larger pockets and encircle large numbers of Ukrainians in major ground movements,” the American source said. “The Russians may have adopted a different tactic, one that has been used very effectively by the Israelis ...."

This tactic involves "finding a weak spot, using coordinated artillery, armor and infantry for a small, localized breakthrough and then penetrate behind the local defense and rapidly turn and roll up small pockets of the enemy. This appears to be a deliberate tactical choice by the Russians,” the American source said.

#19 Given the close cooperation between the Russian military and the Israeli Defense Forces, it makes sense that they would share tactical knowledge and advice.

The Israelis have been pounding Hezbollah and Hamas for years, and now they're helping advise the Russians on how to pulverize Azov and the remaining Ukrainian battalions.

#20  Given the close cooperation between the Russian military and the Israeli Defense Forces

Eh? I must have missed that while reading the news from Israel these past many decades, though I admit to having no knowledge of matters military. I understand that in recent years Israel informed the Russian command in Syria when they were about to raid various sites in Syria, but it is not clear to me that it went beyond that.

#22 The Russians and the Israelis are quite close, both culturally and politically. Many Israelis (esiecualky tge wealthy) have dual citizenship. Russian is spoken by a large percentage of the Israeli population.

Most importantly, they share a common realpolitik view of international relations and a fierce devotion to using military force, at times brutally, against their enemies -- regardless of international censure or sanctions.

#25 Wikipedia:

The largest number of Russian Jews now live in Israel. Israel is home to a core Russian-Jewish population of 900,000, and an enlarged population of 1,200,000 (including halakhically non-Jewish members of Jewish households, but excluding those who reside in Israel illegally).[2][failed verification] The Aliyah in the 1990s accounts for 85–90% of this population.
The population growth rate for Former Soviet Union (FSU) immigrants were among the lowest for any Israeli groups, with a fertility rate of 1.70 and natural increase of just +0.5% per year.[3] The increase in Jewish birth rate in Israel during the 2000–2007 period was partly due to the increasing birth rate among the FSU immigrants, who now form 20% of the Jewish population of Israel.

Recalling from Modern Jewish History lessons in Hebrew school, back in the day:

The first waves of aliyah — Jewish immigration to the Holy Land — were indeed from Eastern Europe and Russia starting in 1880 or thereabouts. They spoke mostly Yiddish, loathed Russia, and many were communist or socialist. To them Zionism was as much a back-to-the-land folk movement as it was a Jewish nationalist movement. They established agricultural kibbutzes and moshavs, folk dancing, and eventually decided that Hebrew would be the language of the reestablished Jewish homeland.

The next waves, in the 1930s through the post-WWII period, came mostly from Nazi Europe. Some spoke Yiddish, some the language of their home country, some also German. Committed Zionists from the Americas and the British Empire started joining them after Israel was established in 1948.

Then starting in 1952 or so the Muslim Middle East emptied itself of the Jews who had lived there for millennia — some communities dating back to the time of King Solomon, others to the Babylonian conquest in 586 BC.

For perspective, the population of Israel as of this month is about 9,506,100, 74% of whom are counted as Jewish — so approximately 7,034,500 are Jews. Resident non-Jewish relatives of Jewish immigrants are another few percent — I calculate the FSU immigrants as about 15% of Israel's Jewish population.

An influential group, to be sure, and mostly fond of their former homeland — though not fond enough of it to remain there. They arrived highly educated and highly cultured, and proceeded to transform Israel even before they mastered Hebrew. And yes, they did not at all indulge in the fashionable guilt of the Euro-style labour socialists who had run the country from the 1930s until Menachem Begin’s victory in 1977, another way they impacted the country beyond their raw numbers.
