#2 If I was the Ukrainian Security Service, I would be running around whacking people left and right. You know Putin will take the blame for it.

After a bit of research (aka clicking web links), reliable sources like CNN (stop it!) say the guy supported the war in Ukraine. The above paragraph still stands. I predict we will see a story in tomorrow's Daily Mail about how Tatarsky got on Putin's bad side.

#3 It might be the USS, but I always ask, "What will they gain that benefits them in this war?"

And honestly the answer I produce is "not much". Putin on the other side has a very popular pro-Russian vloger that gets whacked in St. Petersburg of all places when war support is flagging. A good death to beat the war drum and rally around.

Either way, the Russians will make the most of this.

#5 whacked in St. Petersburg of all places when war support is flagging

Contrary to the Daily Mail, I'm not sure war support is flagging. Certainly we are seeing dissent. But that not surprising in a large country. The surprising part is that we hear about it openly on youtube and the media, instead of smuggled underground samizdat publications. It is one sign that Russia is not the Soviet Union (ptui!)

The impression I get is that Russians see this as an existential war with the West/NATO and see Putin as standing up for them. Notice we don't hear much talk lately about regime change from western sources.
