#2 Smart move. I wonder who is now advising him on border security and crossings.

#3 Ample Federal bases, but perhaps that's the point.
80 acres isn't much more than a mall with parking.

#4 Any traditional National Guard facility has a major portion of its operating expenses funded by the federal government, even if the land itself isn't direct federal property. If you want to sustain the border interdiction ops in Texas using the exclusively state military forces in a state active duty status, you need a operating site totally immune to federal controls.

#5 You get the NG, you get the NG command structure, which means you get politics. With direction from DC.

#6 Is Texas Military Dept under direct command of the Gov? Seems to be but not sure of reality on the ground.

#7 Yes, there are three sections to the Texas Military, National Guard, Air Guard and Texas State Guard. State Guard is not able to federalized.

#8 Indicates that they don't think the problem is going away near term, and the costs of hotels and diners has got to be a major item. Also creates a agreed meet, plan and drop off location.
You have to plan logistics.

#9 Further info about National Guard state vs federal authority.
If the US govt wants to 'federalize' the NatGuard, the state governor can require the feds to declare "a designated national emergency", which the Biden people do not want to do. There's been recent court cases about covid vaccine requirements from the DoD, and the DoD did not do well in in court.
If you go over to ArmyTimes.com, there's a buch of articles in this discussion. Although, at this point, I do not put any stupid idea past the Biden regime.
