#1 I'll be glad when no federal money is involved with sending me stuff I don't even bother to open. I get my money by physical checks and bank wires. I pay my bills online. I don't *need* physical mail delivery.

It seems, even Government run agencies admit the inflation rate is a lot higher in past years than the 2.8% COLA given.

#3 Checking the silver market, it appears the old silver dime is worth about $2.33. Got to take the perspective, is that our money is worth less thanks to all the artificial money creation by the government (aka magic money tree).

#4 /\ Could be a good measure of inflation. A good Mercury could be worth much more than $2.33.

#5 ...Cold comfort, but we still have IIRC the lowest postage in the world and still have surprisingly fast and reliable delivery.

Not that it matters; I need the USPS maybe once a year anymore.

#6 About the only thing forever are postage rate hikes and billions in deficits. What a way to run a railroad. Oh, wait....

But Mike is right. The USPS is still relatively cheap. Within the EU, an intra-EU letter is just as international postage wise as sending a letter to the USA or Japan.

#7 No where else in the world can you send a letter across the continent in 2-3 days for less than a dollar.

#9 If it is certified, NN2N1, can you track it online? It probably fell behind a counter somewhere.

#14 I pay all my bills by check and cash to try and avoid any form of online banking or credit card fraud. The mail between Norther Nevada and the East Coast takes 8-12 days in most cases. Relatively cheap in comparison to other countries isn't impressive when it is slow and unreliable.

#16 If it is only certified, it is only recorded at the drop off before going into the same gray mail sack as general mail. It is then recorded when the grey mail sack is opened, usually at destination, if they're paying attention. If it is registered, it has to be recorded at each exchange of the item and is in a different color mail bag that is tracked as well.
