The new Army tiltrotor also carries so-called "launched effects," which is military lingo for a variety of drones, such as self-protection decoys released to divert enemy fire, sensor drones to hunt targets, drones that do electronic warfare jamming and of course weapons drones for the kill.

#4 Sounds like the Osprey ... and how did that turn out?

It turned out that we learned a lot of interesting things about the quirky aerodynamics of tilt-rotor aircraft. Or did you mean in terms of a functional, reliable aircraft?

#5 In the pdf summary of the Arizona Crash of a USMC Osprey they listed one of those "interesting and quirky details": It seems that the Army, Navy and Marines view Vortex Ring Separation (VRS) as when losing lift and the Air Force views it as after having LOST lift and falling. The initial 'Flight Bible' for the Osprey was written with each of the service branch pilots having a section -- the USAF pilot had the section with VRS and the Air Forces different understanding of VRS was not clearly stated...
