Three Would-Be Grocery Store Robbers Receive Unexpected Body Ventilation
[Daily Caller] Three would-be armed robbers approached the wrong couple outside a DeKalb County Kroger store on Friday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 4:15 p.m. Friday, according to Atlanta’s WSB-TV, when three assailants followed a couple out of a Kroger grocery store. (RELATED: Assailant Tried To Rape His Friend’s Mother ‐ Then She Found Her Pistol)

"We believe that there may have been some sort of crime that was intended to happen at that time, whether it was a robbery or a carjacking, we really don’t know right now," said DeKalb County Police Department spokesperson Shiera Campbell.

What the robbers didn’t expect, however, was for their intended victims to fight back. The man pulled out his concealed weapon and shot at the assailants, according to Campbell. (RELATED: Felon Pulls Out Weapon To Threaten Two People, Gets Shot By Concealed Carry Holder)

After a shootout, the couple was unharmed while all three robbers received bullet wounds.

"It was chaos," one witness told Channel 2 reporter Carl Willis. "I saw the guy was shot. I saw him on the floor, shot."

Saudis to hold players 'accountable' for World Cup drubbing
[DAWN] Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
's sports authorities threatened on Friday to hold members of the national football team "accountable" after their crushing defeat against hosts Russia in the opening match of the World Cup.

Russia defied expectations as the lowest-ranked side in the tournament by thrashing Saudi Arabia 5-0 in front of an ecstatic home crowd in Moscow on Thursday.

The match was attended by Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman
...Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia as of 2016....
, who sat a couple of seats away from Russian President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
"The result was disappointing and unsatisfactory," Adel Ezzat, president of the Saudi Football Federation, told al-Arabiya television Friday.

A "number of players" including goalkeeper Abdullah al-Mayouf would be held accountable, he added.

The team had been trained so they could rise to the occasion, Ezzat said.

"The collapse was not because of fitness, but errors in passing the ball, technical errors," he added.

‘Gotti’ flick is the worst mob movie of all-time
A pity. Mr. Wife did the headshot photos for one of the minor characters.
[NYPOST] I’d rather wake up next to a severed horse head than ever watch "Gotti" again.

The worst movie of the year so far, the long-awaited biopic about the Gambino crime boss’ rise from made man to top dog took four directors, 44 producers and eight years to make.

It shows. The finished product belongs in a cement bucket at the bottom of the river.

Keeping this mafioso mess alive throughout all the turmoil has been John Travolta, playing John Gotti. Travolta, who’s made a career out of Italian stereotypes, obviously thought the Dapper Don would be his Don Corleone. It’s his Chef Boyardee.

The film bounces between 36 years of events seemingly at random and with the flimsiest of context. Call it "Whack to the Future." We move from 1979 to 2009 to 1983 and back to 1979. We meet Frank DeCicco, Angelo Ruggiero, Sammy Gravano and about a million more mobsters who we never learn anything ‐ or care ‐ about. We move from Massapequa to Little Italia to Queens but rarely see the same place twice.

Just two events are clearly presented: The 1980 death of 12-year-old Frank Gotti by car and the shooting of Gambino boss Paul Castellano outside Sparks Steak House in 1985.

The rest is an excuse for Travolta to shmact and for his wife, Kelly Preston ‐ playing Gotti’s wife, Victoria ‐ to howl like Medea.

As Junior, Spencer Rocco Lofranco is OK. He, at least, thinks through his role instead of rabidly twitching like Travolta. But he’s also 25 and appears 17. While Junior’s being indicted in 2009, Lofranco looks like Macaulay Culkin’s parents forgot him in a courtroom.

It’s the worst mob movie ever, but I see a bright future in midnight showings. "The Gotti Horror Picture Show."

#3  Don't just take his word for it:

“Gotti” has a zero far on Rotten Tomatoes. I’d give it a 10 or 15. As a New Yorker and a fan of “The Godfather,” I dig the mob lore, the Little Italy social clubs, and the whole story of the Castellano hit at Sparks Steak House– but as fiction, not as real life. But the gratuitous violence– hey this stuff really happened, and it wasn’t funny to the victims. And it’s not so funny seeing it rationalized here.

Nigeria plunged in to darkness by power grid meltdown as millions watched World Cup build-up on TV
[THESUN.CO.UK] NIGERIA suffered a major power cut on the first day of its World Cup campaign, according to local reports.

The power grid melt down came on the same day the national team played Croatia in its first fixture.

Nigeria has suffered a nationwide power cut after millions watched their national team play Croatia at the World Cup
The Super Eagles lost 2-0 on the day, but millions turned out to watch the game.

An own goal from new Stoke recruit Oghenakaro Etobo, and a spot kick from Luka Modric were enough to break hearts in Africa.

But many fans would have been spared the agonising loss - as the power went out across swathes of the nation.

Local media reported a total collapse of "all the nation's power plants."

The report said: "A top executive of one of the nation’s electricity distribution companies, told our correspondent on condition of anonymity that the national grid first collapsed on Friday.

Venezuela: 17 killed in Caracas club stampede
[Al Jazeera] At least 17 people, including eight minors, have been killed after the detonation of a tear gas device inside a crowded club in Venezuela's capital, Caracas, according to officials.

The incident on Saturday morning occurred after a middle school graduation party degenerated into a brawl and someone detonated the tear gas, according to Interior and Justice Minister Nestor Reverol.

The detonation set off a stampede, with more than 500 people rushing for the exits of the Los Cotorros club in the middle-class neighbourhood of El Paraiso.

Official reports said the victims died of suffocation or multiple trauma.

Eight of those killed were younger than 18, said Reverol. Five people were maimed and taken to hospital for treatment.

Outside the club, several mismatched shoes lay on the sidewalk.

"All I know is my son is dead," Nilson Guerra, 43, told local journalists.

Reverol did not give any motive behind the brawl.

"The establishment has been ordered closed, and we are investigating in coordination with the public ministry, which is directing the criminal investigation," Reverol said.

Eight dead in Nicaragua as gunfire and home blaze break truce
[Al Jazeera] A shooting and fire in Nicaragua has left eight people dead and shattered a truce struck hours earlier between President Daniel Ortega and protesters after two months of political unrest that has caused at least 170 deaths.

Loud bursts of assault rifles were heard on Saturday morning, apparently emanating from makeshift roadblocks near a university campus, according to a Rooters news agency news hound in Managua, Nicaragua's capital and the epicenter of protests since mid-April.

The violence flared hours after Ortega and civic leaders agreed on Friday to cease hostilities, remove roadblocks and allow for a foreign inquiry into the country's bloodiest confrontations since a civil war ended in 1990.

Despite the breakout of violence, both sides resumed talks to address the Catholic Church's proposal to anticipate general elections and implement political reforms.

Local media reported that police and pro-Ortega masked button men had fired at protesters guarding the roadblocks. The government did not reply to a request for comment on the reports.

The national police in a statement attributed the gunfire to protesters, and said two men had died. A police front man reached by phone declined to comment.

[ALMASDARNEWS] The far-right nationalist Azov Battalion held a military parade in central Mariupol, eastern Ukraine, on Saturday, celebrating the fourth anniversary of reclaiming territory from anti-government forces, the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic.

The founder of the Azov Battalion Andrei Biletsky addressed to the hundreds of residents, gathered at the Freedom Square for the ’Liberated Mariupol’ festival.

"The fate of Donetsk, Gorlovka, Lugansk, Novoazovsk will be solved by victories of the Ukrainian army. Our country has only two ways or to break under external pressure, surrender their positions step by step, reconcile with this and then everyone will wipe feet on us or fight and win," said Biletsky.

Every other Russian male under 34 is unemployed.
The Russian national government also doesn't maintain morbidity data on their elders.

Direct Google Translation:

MOSCOW - REGNUM Today about half of the unemployed in Russia belong to the age category from 20 to 34 years. This was stated on June 14 by Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova at a briefing in the Russian government.

"Among the unemployed at the moment, people aged between 20 and 34 prevail. 48.7% of the total unemployment are people of this age , "she said.

Also, according to officials, in Russia there is no statistical data on the incidence and mortality of men 60-65 years and women 50-60 years.

As reported BakuToday , June 14, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev at a government meeting said that in Russia, unemployment is at a record low. He also stressed that in the medium term the state could face a shortage of labor resources.

From South Front:

The Project 11711 large amphibious assault ship Ivan Gren will enter service with the Russian Navy by the end of June, 2018, according to the state-run media.

The Ivan Gren is a leading ship of the class, built at the Yantar Shipyard on the Baltic coast. The warship was laid down by the Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad in west Russia in December 2004 and launched in May 2012. The ship’s sea trials started in June 2016.

The Ivan Gren officially finished state trials on June 2.

The amphibious assault ship can carry 13 battle tanks, 36 armored personnel carriers or infantry fighting vehicles or up to 300 marines. The Ivan Gren is also capable of transporting a reinforced marine infantry company with organic military hardware and land it with the use of pontoons.

The Ivan Gren’s deck hangars allow the usage of two Ka-29 transport attack helicopters.

The Yantar Shipyard is currently building another Ivan Gren-class warhip, the Pyotr Morgunov. This warship is expected to be delivered to the Russian Navy in late 2018.

Meet the two millennials who started a wildly successful carbon fiber brand after moving to America
[Washington Examiner] With a booming economy and growing optimism among American consumers, the U.S. has certainly become the best place in the world for aspiring entrepreneurs to start and grow a business. One such example is the story of Sergio Abi-Naked and Dirk Abinakad, owners of Simply Carbon Fiber, who have taken full advantage of the Land of Opportunity after moving to the U.S, from Lebanon.

With persistent hard work and tenacious determination, the duo successfully developed an exclusive brand that sells carbon fiber accessories to consumers across the globe. Their collection of accessories, ranging from shock-proof "armor" iPhone cases to highly-durable sunglasses and watches, is crafted from the same 100 percent real carbon fiber found on the world’s most luxurious supercars. Moreover, everything is designed and shipped (proudly) from the U.S.

Sergio moved to America when he was just 3 years old, while Dirk made his journey when he was 9 years old. The two young businessmen believe America was the ideal place to successfully start a business and grow it freely with little regulation or restrictive laws.

"Our families came to America for a better future and to live in a more stable country. Other countries have very strict rules and laws on working or collaborating with other businesses," Dirk told Red Alert Politics. "It was also very hard to obtain business ratings or reviews, and thankfully business information is much more accessible in America."

After Sergio made an initial investment with the last $300 of his bank account, he and Dirk started the company in 2014 using eBay and Dirk’s large Instagram presence, which has more than 500,000 followers. The two had the idea of starting something together and "making it big."

"From then on, Dirk and I invested every single penny into the company and recycled earnings that we made. We invested everything back into the company and now we have 60 products that’s growing to 120 by the end of this year," Sergio said in a phone interview with Red Alert Politics.

Local billionaire to take control of the LA Times Monday
[YAHOO] A biotech billionaire who purchased the Los Angeles Times with an eye toward restoring its independence and vigor will officially take control of the news organization Monday, the newspaper reports .

Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong (soon-shong) is spending $500 million to buy The Times, San Diego Union-Tibune, Spanish-language newspaper Hoy and some community newspapers from reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
... home of Al Capone, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel,...
-based Tronc.

The deal, announced Feb. 7, returns The Times to local ownership after nearly two decades under rocky Chicago control. The newsroom has been led by three editors in 10 months and five publishers in four years.

Soon-Shiong, 65, will become executive chairman of the Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, News Group.

He plans to move the newsroom from its iconic downtown headquarters to a modern building under construction 12 miles (19.3 kilometers) south in suburban El Segundo. The property will include a Times museum gallery, event and retail space.

Soon-Shiong takes on a storied yet diminished news organization that once had more than 1,200 journalists and more than 25 foreign bureaus. Now, The Times employs about 400 journalists with bureaus in Sacramento, Washington and some foreign and national outposts.

Newspapers across the country have struggled as readers and advertisers flock to the internet. Soon-Shiong has promised to rebuild The Times.

"The last three months has been an amazing experience for me to really learn ‐ I mean on a steep learning curve ‐ about all the elements that are affecting this industry," he said after signing paperwork to finalize the purchase.

Giuliani: Trump's Not Sitting Down For An Interview 'In A Corrupt Investigation'
[Hot Air] "Those FBI agents should be fired today," Rudy Giuliani told Fox & Friends this morning, "and in prison next week." Giuliani joined a chorus of guests on F&F arguing that the report from inspector general Michael Horowitz changes the entire ballgame around the special counsel probe of Donald Trump and the 2016 campaign. "They should end it," Giuliani insisted, calling it "corrupt," and said the report now makes it clear that Trump will never sit down with Robert Mueller’s investigators:

De Niro called the president a "f---ing idiot" and a "f---ing fool," which was met with a standing ovation.

"You’re helping Trump by saying ’F--- Trump,’ because he can say 'look at these people, these elitists,' " Reiner told "Rising" co-hosts Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton.

Reiner said he thinks celebrities are ultimately hurting Democrats when they go on expletive-ridden rants against Trump.

"There’s a very fine line between energizing the base and energizing the other side," Reiner said.

Trump responded to De Niro’s rant two days later, saying the Academy Award-winning actor was "a very Low IQ individual" and suggesting he had "received too many shots to the head," in his roles playing boxers.

7 Truths Liberals Will Never Acknowledge About Illegal Immigration
[PJ] As Congress is gearing up to discuss a new amnesty, it’s striking how many falsehoods and bad assumptions made by liberals are driving the debate. Maybe it’s time to start talking about the truth.

1. Any sort of legalization or amnesty encourages more illegal aliens to come here
During the Reagan administration, we had a "one-time" amnesty that featured promises of security in return for three million illegals getting to become citizens. Today, most estimates seem to put the number of illegals in the United States somewhere between 11-12.5 million. In other words, seeing that we weren’t serious about enforcing our immigration laws led to more illegals than ever coming here in hopes of getting amnesty. If this amnesty goes through, we can expect to see the exact same problem repeated in a few decades.

2. A wall would make a major difference
A wall was never intended to be a fix for illegal immigration in and of itself. To the contrary, it’s a force multiplier. What we see everywhere that we have full fencing up is that illegals overwhelmingly avoid those areas. In other words, you can use a wall to direct illegals to certain areas and concentrate the border patrol in those areas. As we’ve seen in Israel and even around the White House and the Vatican, walls work. If you’re serious about stopping illegal immigration, you support a wall.

3. Illegal aliens hurt the poorest American workers
Because illegal aliens don’t need health insurance and car insurance and they can lie on their taxes to get the earned income tax credit, they can work cheaper than American workers. So, not only do the 11-12.5 million illegals outright take jobs that citizens would otherwise have, they drive wages down for all the workers competing with them. That’s Economics 101. When supply outstrips demand, the price drops.
Four more follow.

D.C. Area Witches Unite for Gun Control, Hurl Curses at the NRA
[NRA-ILA] Gun control advocates can now boast of a new group of allies joining their dubious coalition: witches.

It kind of makes sense. We all know that gun control is based mainly on magical thinking.

Its advocates, after all, ask us to believe we’re just a few more "commonsense safety measures" away from a world in which evil people who are otherwise determined to kill others refrain from doing so for fear they might violate a gun control law somewhere along the way.

A related premise is that gun control advocates hold the keys to ending violent behavior once and for all, if only the NRA would release its stranglehold on elected officials and taxpayers would pony up the money for "studies" to substantiate their agenda.

According to website wildhunt.org ‐ which features "modern pagan news & commentary" ‐ "documentary filmmaker" Patrick J. Foust has captured a "spellbinding on Donald Trump and the NRA" led by self-described witch David Salisbury.

Parents are hit with $132,000 bill after their five-year-old knocks over a glass sculpture while 'hugging' it
[DailyMail] A boy's parents have been hit with a $132,000 bill after he accidentally knocked over a glass sculpture by hugging it.

The boy was at a wedding reception at Overland Park community center in Kansas City, Kansas
"The Louvre of Kansas",
where Aphrodite di Kansas City, a glass and mirror sculpture, was on display on May 19.

Surveillance footage shows him toddling up towards it and wrapping his arms around it while his mother Shannon Goodman and other adults chat on sofas nearby.

He accidentally pulled it towards him and it toppled over on to him, causing damage to the back of the figure's head and arms.

It left him with scratches on his face. In the video, he sheepishly looked towards his mother after the accident.

Now, the artist Bill Lyons wants to be reimbursed for the money he says he has lost because he can't sell it.

This is the sculpture the boy knocked over. It is called Aphrodite Di Kansas City and is made of glass and pieces of mirror. The artist says the top of it was damaged when he pulled it over.

This is the sculpture the boy knocked over. It is called Aphrodite Di Kansas City and is made of glass and pieces of mirror. The artist says the top of it was damaged when he pulled it over

He estimated its worth to be $132,000.
Because $133k would be "excessive?"
Lyons had loaned the sculpture to the city of Overland Park to put on display. It was the city's representatives who contacted Goodman asking for her to pay.

She had expected the sculpture to be much less valuable and was stunned when she received a letter from the city's insurance company.

'It’s clear accidents happen and this was an accident. I don’t want to diminish the value of their art. But I can’t pay for that,' she told The Kansas City Star.

She explained that she was saying goodbye to the bride's father when her son wandered off towards the statue but insisted he and his three siblings, who were also there, are always well behaved.

'He probably hugged it.

'Maybe my son hugged a torso because he’s a loving, sweet nice boy who just graduated from preschool.'
And he'll never be familiar with the concept of "allowance."
A spokesman for the city of Overland Park said it had filed a claim with Travelers, its insurance company.

'The city has a responsibility to file a claim with our insurance company, and we do that any time city property is damaged.
City Property, but it is the artist who established value? Must be an interesting contract of sale.
'It will be up to the insurance companies to get this worked out,' they said.
Oh, to be a fly on the wall.
Lyons, the artist, said: 'I want to be reimbursed for the amount of time that I spent on it and for what I think it is worth.'
His income tax returns will be an important doc in part establishing value. Unless Mr Lyons has had a recent spurt of popularity.

#8  Looks like a disco ball had some bad cheese and crapped this out.

Gallery has fault here; lucky the kid didn't get hurt with some 15 pounds of glass falling on him. High traffic area, high traffic building. Could just as easily been a purse strap or an errant gesture or a drunk step.

The gallery should have insurance for transportation and display damage. If I were the insurance provider I would be pissed.

If the artist lent the piece without assurances of damage coverage in paper then Bill is an idiot. And Billy, purchaser decides worth. I'd think something like that $20k at best; anything more is additional value because of the artist, the look who I have on display worth. Maybe naming the piece something else would help; dunno.

Now the parents' are at fault here too, what monetary and legal is the question. Kid is certainly old enough to know to not go tugging on thing and is lucky he isn't a bowl of soup. They failed to identify risks, and failed to keep track of their large toddler. Not just fighting off rabid bobcat risks, but taking children to a known quasi-art gallery and here they broke something, and now have their financial health in the scales vs. The City of Overland Park.

Loser here is going to be Billy when he has his stuff appraised by the insurance company at 1/10th its value, out a product, and an ignominious introduction to the larger stage.
