Surveillance planes spotted in the sky for days after West Baltimore rioting
[Wapo] As Benjamin Shayne settled into his back yard to listen to the Orioles game on the radio Saturday night, he noticed a small plane looping low and tight over West Baltimore -- almost exactly above where rioting had erupted several days earlier, in the aftermath of the death of a black man, Freddie Gray, injured in police custody.

The plane appeared to be a small Cessna, but little else was clear. The sun had already set, making traditional visual surveillance difficult. So, perplexed, Shayne tweeted: "Anyone know who has been flying the light plane in circles above the city for the last few nights?"

That was 9:14 p.m. Seven minutes later came a startling reply. One of Shayne's nearly 600 followers tweeted back a screen shot of the Cessna 182T's exact flight path and also the registered owner of the plane: NG Research, based in Bristow, Va.

Charging documents: Feral teens punched, kicked, stomped on Dundalk victim
[BALTIMORESUN] A video recording anonymously slipped under a school door helped police identify several young people charged with brutally beating a man in Dundalk last month.
Had the vid not been anonymous its owner would have turned up dead. "Snitches get stitches," y'know.
Baltimore County officers worked with administrators at Baltimore Community High School to identify those allegedly responsible for attacking the 61-year-old man on April 22, according to charging documents in the case.
In the sociopath's dream world they're anonymous, which means there can't be any penalty for anything they do. School, however, is a smaller community than the great wide world. Video really violates the sociopath's privacy.
Six Baltimore teens have been locked away
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
. Garry Leroy Baker Jr., 16; Andrew Omar Allen, 15; Yakeem Zavion Wheatley, 15; Mya Lashae Stewart, 15; and Antoine Willie Lawson, 17, have been charged with attempted first-degree murder and other charges. Samtoya Isiah Williams, 17, is charged with first-degree assault and other charges. All have been charged as adults.
Four of the half dozen have the comical made-up names that represent the height of feral sophistication.
Police also have issued a warrant for 20-year-old Keenan Tylike Holloway in connection with the case; he is being held on unrelated charges of theft and vehicle theft in Baltimore City.
Being a sociopath is a way of life, not a casual pastime.
Baltimore County officers were called to 45th Street in the Harbor View community about 12:45 p.m., where they found puddles of blood in the street leading to victim Richard Fletcher's home, according to charging documents.
Mr. Fletcher is of course a white homeowner who complained to the ferals about them damaging his property. He's a racist for doing that, naturally.
Fletcher was sitting on the porch holding a towel to his head, the documents state. He told police that he and his wife heard a commotion and saw a fight and several juveniles "on his vehicle jumping up and down." When Fletcher tried to stop the fight and get the juveniles off his truck, he was hit from behind, then assaulted by 25 to 30 young men.
"White man bleed a lot."
Fletcher was hospitalized; his injuries include a brain bleed, nasal fracture, orbital fracture and possible broken ribs, according to charging documents. He has not spoken publicly about the attack, and did not respond to requests for comment. Neighbors are sponsoring fundraisers and have launched an online campaign to help cover his medical costs.
The county has no obligation to kick in for his medical costs, despite the fact that he was set upon by a pack of animals who were supposed to be at a county school supposedly getting an education.
As police investigated the case, they obtained cellphone footage of the attack, surveillance video and a flash drive with additional video that had been slipped under a door at Baltimore Community High School, an alternative school near the site of the attack. Police say school administrators helped to identify people in the videos, and the principal has acknowledged her students were involved in the attack.
It's an "alternativer" school. From its website:
We believe that the over-aged, under-credited student can learn and achieve at high levels. It is our job as educators to create an environment in their classrooms that result in high level of performance. We are confident that with our support, students can master challenging academic materials and overcome social barriers. We are prepared to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, partners, and parents to achieve this shared educational purpose.
To which my initial response was "Good Gawd, Gertie!"

The videos showed several of the teens kicking, punching and stomping on Fletcher, even as he was "on the ground defenseless and unconscious," according to charging documents.
They had mastered challenging materials, we can see. And the social barriers were certainly overcome. The pack certainly shared their "educational" purpose.
The videos also showed several of the teens reaching into the man's pockets, with one juvenile throwing the victim's empty wallet on the ground.
They were just taking a bit of reparations.
Neighbors have complained that when students leave the school they cause trouble in the community as they walk to MTA bus stops.
Somehow it's a Baltimore City school, located in Baltimore County.
MTA officials said Wednesday they have moved one of the stops closer to the school. Baltimore County police have increased their presence at dismissal. The school is tentatively scheduled to close in 2017.
That's too bad. Its students are doing so well.
Several of the teens charged in the attack have preliminary hearings scheduled for next week. Most do not have attorneys listed in court documents. Allen is represented by the Office of the Public Defender, which declined to comment on the case. Stewart is the only one who has been released from custody, and her mother told The Baltimore Sun that she regrets her role in the attack.
Betcha she really regrets being caught on vid.

Woman stabbed to death by co-wife
[Dhaka Tribune] A 25-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her co-wife in an apartment in Chittagong’s Panchlaish area yesterday.
Co-wife. There's your trouble...
Boy howdy but I've spent too much time around a liberal university. I saw "co-wife" and my brain went in a completely different direction...
Clearly my education is deficient. What is there besides old-style Mormons, Saudi harems and African kraals?
This comes a day after a woman of similar age was hacked to death in Dhaka’s Mirpur and a week after a mother and her daughter were slaughtered in the port city.

The family of deceased Sharmin Akhter alleged that she was killed by her co-wife Rozi Akhter, 35, who wanted to be the only heir to their expatriate husband’s wealth.

During primary interrogation at the Panchlaish police station, Rozi confessed that she and two of her brothers had killed Sharmin, her husband’s second wife.

Mohiuddin Mahmud, OC of the police station, said that they had recovered a knife from the apartment which was used for the murder.

Sharmin, mother of a one-year-old boy named Ahmad, is the second wife of Abdul Hakim, a Bangladeshi expatriate living in Abu Dhabi of United Arab Emirates (UAE).

About a week ago, Sharmin came to live in the apartment where Rozi Akhter, lives with her three daughters, domestic help Nazmin and her cousin Md Ali, 16, who has been missing since the murder.

According to Md Anis, Rozi’s chauffeur and the first witness of the incident, Ali is a first year student of the Patia Government College. He used to live with Rozi and give tuition to her three daughters.

Anis said that around noon yesterday, he took Ali and two of Rozi’s daughters to the Kalamia Bazar area. They went there to visit an ailing female cousin of Rozi. After dropping them there, Anis called his boss who answered the phone but was crying. Anis then told Ali that something might be wrong back at home.

Anis came back in a hurry and found that Sharmin was lying in a pool of blood on the floor of the dining room, writhing in pain. He then called the security guard of the building and neighbours and took Sharmin to hospital.

Police said that they had found five people, including Rozi, in the apartment when they went there. But there was no explanation about how the two daughters had returned from their aunt’s and why Ali was still missing. All five of them were taken to the Panchlaish police station for primary investigation.

Dipok Jyoti Khisha, an assistant commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, said the incident took place sometime between 1pm and 1:30pm. Sharmin’s body was taken to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead. The body had been kept at the morgue for autopsy.

Sharmin’s uncle Mohammad Azim alleged that Rozi had killed his niece because she wanted to be the only heir to their husband’s wealth.

Azim said that Hakim and Sharmin got married two years ago. “Sharmin used to live in an apartment in the city’s Bahaddarhat area. Hakim visited the country about a month ago. Before going back to Abu Dhabi, he left Sharmin and her son to her maternal home in Boalkhali of Chittagong.

“However, Rozi asked Hakim to leave Sharmin at her apartment. She said the place was too big for them and Sharmin could easily stay there. When I went to visit them a few days ago, Rozi told me that she was worried with the recent incidents of robbery and murder. That made me suspicious,” Azim told the Dhaka Tribune.

“If it was robbers who killed my niece, then they would have ransacked the apartment and harmed the others. But, apart from Sharmin, nobody else was harmed,” he said.

When this report was being filed last evening, Panchlaish police was making preparations for filing a case.

Census Bureau paid controversial Dick Gregory to address workers
[NYPOST] The Census Bureau paid comedian Dick Gregory between $15,000 and $20,000, plus expenses, to address workers at its headquarters in February -- and now Census regrets it.
Do they really?
The performer and civil rights activist, who is known to use raw language and racial terms that many find objectionable, spoke during Black History Month. But apparently he offended enough of the workers that Census is revising its policy on outside speakers.
Gregory was funny, but that was in 1964 or thereabouts. Then he decided the rest of the world was racist and started starving himself for various causes, many of which were trivial, and he came down with potty mouth.
The Gregory situation, which I just found out about last week, is a good example of why there needs to be more oversight over how taxpayer money is spent.
Shouldn't the Census Bureau stick with counting the population every ten years? Do they need entertained between times?
First, let's listen to Census grovel.
Oh, good idea!
"We understand [Gregory's] comments offended some members of the audience," Census said in a statement to me that appears to have been sent to irate workers. "Gregory's statement and opinions were his own and do not reflect the Census Bureau's commitment to an inclusive workplace environment free from discrimination and harassment."
I've got a confession to make: I (and a guy named Lam Nguyen) wrote the document destruction program for the 2000 Census. I traveled among four sites--Baltimore, Phoenix, Ontario (California), and Jefferson (Indiana). The people I met and worked with were pleasantly and un-self-consciously multicolored and racially diverse in approximate proportion to their representation in the local populace. I have no idea why Dick Gregory was required to disturb the apparent harmony I saw.
Yeah, yeah, sure. Gregory's spiel is well known. This wasn't Jerry Seinfeld they were hiring.
Actually, I'm not even sure what Gregory's spiel consists of anymore. I haven't heard his name in several years. I thought for sure he'd died by now.
"We make every effort to ensure that our external speakers represent diverse viewpoints while also respecting the audience," it continued.
Apparently not every effort.

Army rifts could push Burundi back to conflict after coup bid
[REUTERS] Crowds cheered and hugged soldiers on the streets of Burundi's capital when a general announced he had sacked the president for seeking an unconstitutional third term, but celebrations were quickly quashed when another general said the coup had failed.

The crisis has highlighted alarming divisions in Burundi's patchwork military, a symbol of reconciliation as it absorbed one-time enemies that now risks being torn apart by rivalries in a nation still scarred by an ethnically fueled civil war a decade ago.

President Pierre Nkurunziza's loyalists insist the coup was hatched by a small group of soldiers led by Major General Godefroid Niyombare, the intelligence chief who was sacked in February. Niyombare has insisted he has other generals with him.

Bangladesh
College student hacked to death in Pallabi
[Dhaka Tribune] A college student was hacked to death by the associates of a politician during a clash over a dispute on land ownership in the capital's Pallabi area yesterday afternoon.

The dear departed, Abdur Rahman Chanchal, was caught in the middle of the clash between two rival groups in the area, one of which is affiliated with MA Awal, member of parliament from Lakshmipur 1 constituency and leader of Bangladesh Tarikat Federation, locals told the Dhaka Tribune. Chanchal was a student at Bangabandhu College in Mirpur.

Witnesses said the clash broke out in the morning between the groups of Momen Baksh -- who is associated with politician Awal -- and Shahinuddin Shahin inside a ceramic factory in Pallabi when Momen's group went to put up a signboard on the 120-bigha land to establish ownership.

Britain
UKIP rocked by Nigel Farage leadership row
[BBC] A row has erupted at the top of UKIP over Nigel Farage's future resulting in the departure of two senior advisers.

Matthew Richardson quit the party after MEP Patrick O'Flynn claimed Mr Farage had fallen under the influence of "inexperienced" advisers.

Mr Farage's chief of staff, Raheem Kassam told the BBC he was not quitting but the party later said he had gone.

Mr O'Flynn claimed in a Times article that Mr Farage had become a "snarling, thin-skinned, aggressive" man.

The MEP and UKIP economics front man, who has said he wants Mr Farage to remain as leader, wrote in The Times that the UKIP leader had moved away from being a "cheerful, ebullient... daring" politician.

'Political hero'

And he said some around Mr Farage "would like to take UKIP in the direction of some hard-right, ultra-aggressive American Tea Party-type movement".

But he later clarified that he was not "planning some kind of coup against" Mr Farage, who he described as his "political hero".

He claimed Mr Farage had fallen under the influence of "aggressive" advisers and risked turning the party into a "personality cult".

Kerry Begs Russia To “Settle For What It’s Already Grabbed"
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg warned Monday that the Kremlin continues to provide heavy arms and training to its proxy militias in eastern Ukraine—a “blatant violation,” he says, of the Minsk deal Russia signed in February to end the fighting. NATO says Russia is also building forces on both sides of its international border with Ukraine. Civilians in the port of Mariupol, a few miles from the front lines, are bracing for an attack and posting signs to the nearest bomb shelter.

So what better time for John Kerry to attempt to reconcile with Vladimir Putin? The Secretary of State arrived Tuesday in the Black Sea resort of Sochi, where he met first with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and then was granted an audience with the Russian President.

“The Kremlin had let Washington squirm about whether Mr. Kerry would be well-received, only confirming that Mr. Putin would meet with him about an hour before his arrival,” the Journal reported Tuesday, adding that “Mr. Putin was likely pleased by Mr. Kerry’s effort at obeisance” after the secretary paid homage to Russian sacrifices in World War II.

No doubt. Following eight hours of discussions, Mr. Kerry suggested that “U.S. and EU sanctions can begin to be rolled back” if Russia abides by the Minsk deal. That deal is known as “Minsk II” because the Kremlin had already violated September’s “Minsk I” accord, which was supposed to freeze the conflict in eastern Ukraine, bringing peace in return for securing Russia’s extensive territorial gains. So Mr. Putin may now be rewarded with the lifting of economic sanctions simply by promising to abide by another deal he violated from the moment it was signed.

#3  Why should Putin "settle" for anything? The west has no spine, and the Ukrainians are incompetent. The only thing holding Putin back is his tolerance for getting his military killed. And Vlad, like any fascist leader, has little regard for the lives of his troops compared to the money and power he and his cronies can accumulate. Putin has shown no shame in using rabble-rousing racist propaganda, misleading his own people, and broad illegal covert insertion of his military into Ukraine's affairs. Why would anyone even think that a toothless "threat" or appeal from the lame-duck narcissist-in-chief Obama and his ketchup-heir errand boy make any impact on Putin?

Wreckage Of U.S. Marine Helicopter Found In Nepal; 3 Bodies Discovered Near Crash Site
[HUFFPOST] KATHMANDU, Nepal (AP) -- Nepalese rescuers on Friday found three bodies near the wreckage of a U.S. Marine helicopter that disappeared earlier this week while on a relief mission in the earthquake-hit Himalayan nation, and officials said it was unlikely there were any survivors from the crash.

"The wreckage of the helicopter was found in pieces and there are no chances of any survivors," Nepal's Defense Secretary Iswori Poudyal said. He gave no details about the nationalities of the three victims, only saying their remains were charred.

The helicopter was carrying six Marines and two Nepalese army soldiers.
