6:12 AM: On Imus' radio program (no longer simulcast on MSNBC) this morning, Chris Carlin, who covers sports for the program, discussed yesterday's dismissal of charges against the Duke lacrosse players.

UPDATE 6:28 AM: After a station break, Imus came back to discuss MSNBC's decision. He said he was recently chatted with "another big time broadcasting executive" who was "complaining that [MSNBC] had cancelled the simulcast twelve hours before we were getting ready to conduct this radio-thon for these three charities."
Imus: "My position on all of this is not whining about the hideously hypocritical coverage from the newspapers -- from everybody -- or the lack of support, say, from people like Harold Ford, Jr. who I had my life threatened over supporting and all these kind of things. It all began, and it doesn't make any difference -- like [James] Carville said -- stop talking about the context, it doesn't make any difference. If I hadn't have said it I wouldn't be here. So let's stop whining about it...You gotta stop complaining. I said a stupid, idiotic thing that desperately hurt these kids. I'm going to apologize but we gotta move on."
UPDATE 7:37 am. IMUS: "The hypocrisy is absurd...Everybody knows what the deal is. And this is not over. This story does not end here."
Imus also gave a shout-out to Opie & Anthony, who support Imus on this issue.

Imus says he spoke with MSNBC Senior VP Phil Griffin and said "some of the stuff that MSNBC has done this morning is frankly unethical and I've asked them to stop doing it."
But also said, "I'm not whining about the coverage. I'm not whining about any aspect of this."
"I've said 100 times: I said it and if I hadn't said it, we wouodn't be sitting here talking about it. And that's the bottom line."
Imus also said that losing television (via MSNBC) isn't as big as losing radio. "The big part of the program is radio. There's millions of people listening to the radio. At best a few hundred thousand are watching television."
On MSNBC's decision: "I understand the pressure they were under. I'm not stupid."
UPDATE 8:15am: Speaking with an African-American woman, whose son had spent time at the Imus Ranch, Imus said, "And I want to say to you as an African-American woman, I'm sorry for what I said...I want to apologize to all African-American women." The woman said, "Okay, I accept that."
UPDATE 8:19AM: Imus said that one of the "sad ironies of my stupidity" is that, at his ranch, "we sent six kids home because they couldn't stop calling girls bitches and hos."
UPDATE 8:21AM: "I want to thank Opie & Anthony...I love them and I love what they do. I know they offend people perhaps more than I do. They're good loyal guys...Even Howard [Stern] hasn't been horrible." (Although if you read this Stern show summary, seems like Stern still has his claws out against his longtime nemesis.) UPDATE 8:28AM: Imus says that he's had "a lot of big people in the media" calling him "whining about the hypocrsity in the coverage. We understand that. You just turn on the cable channels or read the newspaper, trying to portray me as some vicious racist or whatever and there's not one person talking about the other things I've done...There's a difference between premeditated murder and a gun going off...But you've got to take your medicine. I'm not whining about it."

UPDATE 8:38AM: Despite the controversy, Imus says contributions for The Tomorrows Children Fund and the Imus Ranch are "way, way up" compared to this time in the show last year, which is significant because "the money's more important this year than ever."
He added: "These bastards went after me. They got me. But they didn't catch me asleep."
UPDATE 8:44AM: MSNBC's Imus webpage is still up, with a statement and link to Imus' charities.

Imus also lets readers know that he's doing today's show in the MSNBC studio.

Update: As all know already, Imus has been fired by CBS radio. As pointed on by Rush Limbaugh, the MSM has stared to portray Imus as a "conservative radio host". LOL...right...just like Limbaigh is a "liberal" radio host. Imus thought he was in the liberal club, but wasn't. Think otherwise? Check out who the guests were on his program.
Imus shoudn't have been fired. Period.
The nappey-headed black pimps (Sharpton-Jackson-et al) in conjunction with their guilt ridden white hos' have sealed the fate of Imus.
Despite Imus being a "liberal" ass, he should NOT have been fired by either MSNBC or CBS. This is a travesty.
Anyone remember the 88 (!!!) faculty members of Duke University that signed the faculty petition trashing the 3 falsely accused WHITE lacrosse players? Just a petition that acknowledged the obvious guilt of the white boys because a black woman was their accuser? Damn if not 30 some of the petition signers were black. No apologies to date from any black (or white) faculty. Still waiting. Any faculty fired yet? No. Will any faculty be fired? No. Why not? They were exercising their freedom of speech.
White boys don't have freedom of speech. Didn't you know? Didn't you get the memo? And neither will infidel have freedom of speech if all goes according to the muslim-leftist plan.

Mark - your points are all well taken, and the hypocrisy in this is beyond irony. Really - going to Sharpton to apologize for racial insensitivity is like apologizing to Goerring for anti-semitism. That said, the corporate suits have quickly thrown him under the bus when it was "discovered" that there were racial insensitivites by Imus! (i.e.: advertisers withdrew and the black ink became red).... I used to watch him while getting ready for work 4-5AM PST about 5 years ago, but he'd become tiresome (but his staff: Charles, Rob, Larry are top-notch) during his pro-Kerry stretch, and his wife Deirdre, is a enviro-nut. They'd best reflect on their lives before starting anew, and I have no doubt that someone will hire him. First thing he oughtta do is fire up the Jesse and Al parody show to repay the hypocrisy by those two racial hucksters, extortionists and bombthrowers, who have actually contributed to the deaths of innocents by their inflammatory remarks. It would be hypocrisy if it was based on any principle other than the rationalization of POWER. However, there is no principle in play other than positioning for influence and power in this game.
I'm so happy that Imus is fired and that his left wing friends have shown their true colors during this. The MSM is one gigantic log rolling clique. Imus' ilk (Newsweek, Dems, NBC, etc) makes possible the Jackson/Sharptons.
This is the best thing since the Iran/Iraq War.
PS--I assume you are white like me so I suggest you stay off the racial grievance hamster wheel. There is NO reason for Imus to say what he said, EVER; I don't care what Snoop Dog, Sharpton, Pat Buchanan, etc., say.
If a white man is a true American gentleman, he would be proud to have his daughter competing for a NCAA D1 sports title as a scholar-athlete. Congrats to Rutgers on a great season. If my daughter ever makes an academic sports final and some drug addled nothing mocks her, he'll be lucky just to be fired.

YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea (AP) - Troops and diplomats from countries that fought in the Korean War paid respects Thursday at the repatriation of remains recovered from North Korea of six American servicemen who died more than a half-century ago.
Dozens of military personnel in dress uniforms stood at attention behind the six coffins draped in blue United Nations flags - representing the U.S.-led U.N. alliance that battled the North after it invaded South Korea in 1950.
The remains were brought Wednesday from the North to South Korea by a U.S. delegation led by New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and Anthony Principi, former U.S. veterans affairs secretary. At the repatriation Thursday, U.S. Army Gen B.B. Bell praised the efforts of troops from 21 nations that fought to help South Korea deter the North. ``It was their selfless service and ultimate sacrifice that saved the nation, giving the people of the Republic of Korea and opportunity to forge their destiny,'' said Bell, the top U.S. commander on the peninsula, referring to South Korea by its official name.
Military officials saluted the coffins as they were taken from a gymnasium at Yongsan Garrison, the main U.S. base in central Seoul, to six polished hearses while a band played ``Abide With Me.''
The ceremony provided a stark contrast to when the delegation received the remains Wednesday in North Korea, where they had been packed into six small black cases and lined up on a road near the heavily fortified Demilitarized Zone dividing the Koreas. From there they were escorted across the border into South Korea, where they were then transferred to coffins.
The remains were to be flown later Thursday to Hawaii for identification. Three of the sets of the remains came with identification tags.
Six young men with hopes and dreams that remained in Korea when they fell. We welcome them home and we thank them for all they did.

Of all the war memorials in DC, I found the Korean war memorial the most touching.
Statues of a group of men, brothers in arms, walking across a field, capturing a moment in time during that war.
And the inscription on the monument hits you like a blow to the chest.
