Detroit mayor indicted in sex scandal
DETROIT (Reuters) - Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was charged with perjury, obstruction of justice and official misconduct on Monday stemming from a sex scandal and the prominent Democrat's handling of an $8.4 million settlement of a whistle-blower lawsuit against the city. . . .

The eight-count criminal indictment announced by Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy included two counts of obstruction of justice and four counts of perjury. The perjury charges each carry a prison term of more than 15 years.

"The justice system was severely mocked and public trust was trampled on," said Worthy in a scolding rebuke of the embattled mayor.

Worthy said lawyers for the city of Detroit had attempted to thwart her two-month investigation and said some evidence had sought by prosecutors had gone missing or been destroyed. . . .

The criminal charges stem from text messages between Kilpatrick and Beatty dating back to 2002 that first disclosed in January by the Detroit Free Press. The text messages appeared to show Kilpatrick and Beatty lied under oath when they testified in a police whistle-blower lawsuit last year that they had not had a sexual relationship or discussed the firing of a police official. . . .

#1  Detroit's Democratic mayor indicted in sex scandal

Woah! Right in the headline! And in a Reuters article too! That says to me, "Kwame. You're toast..."
Coming up next: "I blame THE MAN!!"

#2  Tu,
The blame game on this one will be REMARKABLE. The entire Detroit power structure is 100% African-American. Kilpatrick is gonna have to basically everybody in the city government is working for the Man. Way too long overdue in the Motor City...

#3  Well that didn't take long...

"I'm deeply disappointed in the prosecutor's decision," said Kilpatrick, who earlier compared his critics to a "lynch mob" and said he had been subjected to racial epithets since the scandal broke. "This has been a flawed process from the very beginning."

#4  Just what the democrats need...a racial, sexual scandal. I think we have a form for these things, just fill in the names and dates.

Marital Discord w/Soccer Mom
A woman in Port St. Lucie faces charges of chasing her fleeing husband around their yard in a minivan, in attempts to drive over him about 20 times.

Their baby, who was in the back seat of the minivan, was buckled up and was not hurt, deputies said.

Deputies said it started over a dispute over $300 on Friday between Leslie Ann Brown and her husband, Nicholas.

Deputies said he tried to stop the vehicle by throwing a brick at the windshield.

The wife has been released on $2,750 bond, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and child abuse.

#1  A friend who used to run a cake shop told me that whenever he saw men leaving marriages, the cakes would always have broken handcuffs, open jail doors, and other themes of freedom. The women's cakes had stakes through the hearts of men, eviscerated men, and otherwise represented extreme vindictiveness.

WWN: FLY THE UN-FRIENDLY SKIES (Terrorists start own airline!)
From the self-declared "World's Only Reliable Newspaper" (known at Rantburg as "the most trusted voice in major media.")

TERRORISTS have formed their own airline -- because they're afraid of getting on a plane that could be hijacked by other terrorists!

That's the incredible claim made by Amir Humad, a Saudi terrorist who was recently captured and is being held in a top-secret location.

"No one's going to hijack a plane when everyone else on the plane is a crazed terrorist," Humad says. "Sure, terrorists are crazy, but we're not crazy enough to get on a plane that might be hijacked."

Ironically, El-Al Queda, as the new airline is called, is the result of increased security on other airlines.

"It's hard to be a good terrorist when you can't even take a pair of box cutters on a plane," Humad says.

In fact, El-Al Queda has a very different approach to security.

"If you're NOT carrying a bomb or a weapon, it's hard to get on," an El-Al Queda baggage handler says. "We're in the business of spreading WMDs. We can't give seats to every little terroristwannabe."

And in the event a bomb does go off, blowing up the plane, the terrorists say there's no way to know which bomb caused it -- so each of the terrorists would get the 72 virgins they're promised when they go to heaven as a martyr.

"It's a win-win situation," says Humad.

They have their own newspapers, television networks, and universities, so why not an airline?

Man fined Rs 12 (29 cents) for grandpa's 100-yr-old crime
Ghaziabad, India: Following the age-old tribal culture, a 100-year-old litigation was decided at a village panchayat in a queer fashion.

A person was convicted for a 'crime' committed by his grandfather, who had died of his old age. After 100 years of trial, 50 hearing dates and 40-hour marathon session, the judgement was pronounced in a village panchayat on Monday last week in which the grandson of the accused was asked to pay Rs 12 for the crime his grandfather had committed 100 years ago.

According to sources, on March 17, a village panchayat was held at Kaili village under Kharkhauda police station of Meerut. A 100-year-old listed case was heard by the panchayat. It was chaired by Mohd Yamin, who is also the national president of the Nut clan. About 50 community members attended the panchayat.

One Naushada, the grandson of Kalloo, the accused, was summoned before the panchayat. After 40-hour session, the panchayat ordered Naushada to put his hands in boiling oil kept in a pan. He pleaded the community elders to reduce the quantum of the punishment, which was considered sympathetically. Finally, Naushada was asked to pay only Rs 12, which he accepted without any protest.

Kalloo's 'crime' was that he alleged his father-in-law, a resident of Kaili village, had an illicit relation with a woman of the same village. In the subsequent trial, the allegations were proved false. For making false allegations against the old man, the panchayat held Kalloo guilty of misleading the community and deliberately defaming an innocent person.

Naushada was summoned from Nidori village under Pilkhuwa police station of Ghaziabad to present his case. He was asked to pay for his grandfather's 'crime'.

District Magistrate of Meerut Kamini Ratan Chauhan said to solve the petty matters at the panchayat level is good but no one is above the Constitution of India. On the issue of asking someone to put his hands in boiling oil, the Kharkhauda police would be asked to investigate the matter and file a report, the DM said.

Lurid Moonbat Fantasy #50: We're all doomed! - and there's NOTHING we can do about it
According to the climate change scientist James Lovelock, this is the beginning of the end of a peaceful phase in evolution.

By 2040, the world population of more than six billion will have been culled by floods, drought and famine.

The people of Southern Europe, as well as South-East Asia, will be fighting their way into countries such as Canada, Australia and Britain.

We will, he says, have to set up encampments in this country, like those established for the hundreds of thousands of refugees displaced by the conflict in East Africa.

Lovelock believes the subsequent ethnic tensions could lead to civil war.

#2  Hey, Mr. Lovelock, talked to Paul Erlich lately?
Posted by: xbalanke || 03/24/2008 15:15 Comments || Top||

#3  Wow, Erica Jong and Paul Erlich on the same day. This is like old home week, UMass- Amherst, 1975...

Paul Ehrlich is the modern version of Thomas Malthus — the most visible and persistent predictor of mass famine and economic catastrophe. Unlike Malthus, though, Ehrlich doesn’t seem to learn from his mistakes; when one of his predictions of disaster fails to come true, Ehrlich simply moves on and makes other predictions of disaster, constantly pushing back the timetable for massive world famine, perhaps in the desperate hope that if he keeps predicting the same thing, eventually pure chance will fulfill the conditions he requires.

Posted by: Jitch, Scourge of the Veal Cutlets4098 || 03/24/2008 15:53 Comments || Top||

#5  Unlike most of these Prophets of Doom, Lovelock does at least have a solution that doesn't involve genocide, regimentation, socialism or the fulfillment of other leftist fantasies.

He is a proponent of nuclear power and in fact goes farther than I do with it, proposing a de-centralized network of small nuke plants all over the world.

Of course, this is blasphemy to the left-conformist masses who oppose anything that might empower someone other than themselves.

#6  Well, I guess there's no point in spending any further money on grants for climatologists and the like.
Posted by: Matt || 03/24/2008 16:10 Comments || Top||

#7  By 2040, the world population of more than six billion will have been culled by floods, drought and famine.

So if the populations are culled why isn't there lots of room for everyone after 2040? Why the encampments?
Posted by: rjschwarz || 03/24/2008 16:14 Comments || Top||

#8  Lovelock believes that many places currently inhabited will be unsustainable due to: floods, drought, famine.

That would be true despite any resulting population deaths.
Posted by: lotp || 03/24/2008 16:22 Comments || Top||

#9  If drought, floods and famine are so bad, those where food is still being produced aren't going to set up encampments of the refugees, they're going to kill them at the border to keep them from taking the little that remains. And that, my dears, is how the culling will take place, not improving the species in the least. Perhaps we should all move to Manitoba now, because I don't believe Australia has enough water.

#11  Again, the singular, all-encompassing, subtle or covert underlying SCIENTIFIC-INTELLECTUAL ONLY premise behind GLOBAL-PLANETARY WARMING IS THAT GOVT + SCIENCE, OR ELEMENTS THEREIN?, BELIEVE SOMETHING IS UP WID OUR SUN [e.g. weakening?], AND ARE UNCERTAIN/SUBJECTIVE AS TO WHAT IT IS HAPPEN OR OCCURRING, WHAT IT MEANS, NOR HOW TO RESOLVE IT.ETC. Its either this, or Academia has sold its soul to maliciously force OWG-SWO upon an unsuspecting World-Humanity. MORE THAN ANY SPACE ROCK(S), PLANET X's, OR BINARY "DEATH STARS", ETC. IT GOES AGZ THE RELIABILITY + FINITENESS OF PREVAILING THEORIES, MODELS, + QUANTITA/EMPIRICAL METHODS, i.e. MAN'S ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND AND CONTROL HIS OWN DESTINY BY AND FOR HIMSELF + HIS OWN, AGZ ANY AND ALL THREATS, espec as vv the SUN = GOD.

For me, GLOBAL WARMING started back in the late 1960's when I, as a very young child here on Guam, visually observed strange HTH ripple waves in the atmosphere + solar activities.

As for LOVELOCK, not everything in the Radical Enviro or EARTH-CENTRIC/FOCUSED ACTIVIST AGENDA LACKS MERIT. ALthough I regard myself as a dedic Conservative, I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS AGZ CONSERVATISM NOR FREE MARKET ECONOMICS FOR HUMAN SOCIETY TO MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO RE-USE OR RECOVER WHAT IT TAKES FROM NATURE.

E.g. GUAM > controversy btwn Government of Guam versus Feds in CLOSURE OF THE LOCAL ORDOT DUMP.

"Fighting their way into countries such as ..." > ASIAN DESERTIFICATION + WATER WOES + "EARTH/LAND CHANGES", ETC. > GUAM + WESTPAC MAY BE A FUTURE FOCAL POINT FOR MYRIAD ATTEMPTS BY MASSIVE NUMBERS OF CHINESE AND OTHER ASIAN REFUGEES [ enviro?] TO ESCAPE FROM VARI DETRIMENT(S).

1960's Guam versus 2040 > WORLD IS ALREADY 30-PLUS YEARS BEHIND SINCE EVENTS OBSERVED ON GUAM - DOES IT DESIRE TO WAIT ANOTHER 30-PLUS? 2050? 2080-2100???

IS THE SUN OKAY, OR IS IT NOT, OR DOES THE WORLD HAVE TO ASK OSAMA BIN LADEN TO ASK FAV MTV BABE WHITNEY HUSTON?

D *** NG IT, NASA-JPL, ETC. WILL PREFER/DEMAND DEATH THAN TO BE AT THE RECEIVING END OF A STERN "MICHELLE" LECTURE!

Don't mean to bust Discovery's bubble, but as much as I love Clarke's books he was still alive when many of the GRB's were observed over Guam. WERE ALSO OBSERVED [fiery]EXPLOSIONS OUT THERE WHICH WERE NOT GRB'S, AS IFF SOME SPACE BODY(S)

#15  Joe, no one knows the day and hour. But there is a cyclicity in nature (up and including supergalaxies), and at some point we are for a new mayhem of at least a solar system's scale--a climate change would be a minor annoyance and result of much larger forces at play.

Our current model how solar system works is rather incomplete to put it mildly, and if the ancients conevyed their observations with some degree of accuracy, it won't be pretty what's in the store.

Whether shit happes in 4 years or 40, does not matter much, we survived (that is our direct ancestors did) then, we'll survive (that is some fraction of us) now. But much will be lost--several centuries of human achievement erased, if not whole millenia.

I just hope that the remnant would react with the approach of Moses to these events (life religion), not with the approach of Cuculcan (death religion).

Malaysia detain 58 foreign women in raids
KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian police detained 58 foreign women in anti-vice raids from two karaoke outlets in the southern state of Johor, reports said Monday.

Police detained 49 Thai nationals, three Indonesians and six Filipino nationals as well as some 100 local men from the two locations, said head of criminal investigations Amer Awal. ‘We suspected immoral activity was going on because some of the rooms have mattresses in them,’ he was quoted as saying by the Star daily. Police also uncovered secret passages leading to various hideouts at both premises, he said.
Secret lairs? Too bad Eliot Spitzer didn't know of that trick.
He said the women, aged 19 to 33, have been detained for questioning, adding that those without valid travel documents will be deported.
