#2  . . . Mrs. Hendry approached Annie looking for re-assurance that the debt would be paid. In defense of her husband, Annie reportedly replied, “My husband is an honest man, and he will repay this debt no matter what.”

So a promise to pay a debt is considered fraud in the great state of Utah. They make California look good.

Moonshine found in truck stopped for weaving

FLAG POND (AP) -- A man who police in northeastern Tennessee charged with possession of untaxed whiskey told officers he's been buying it in the region for a decade.
Yup! Goin' on 10 years now. Buyin' it regalar like.
Unicoi County Sheriff Kent Harris told the Johnson City Press that Arvin Guffey, 65, of Beach Island, N.C., was stopped Sunday on Interstate 26 a few miles from the state line after his pickup truck was seen weaving.
I guess he forgot to wait until he got home to try the stuff. "Honest, Ossifer, I jus hada lil tase."
Deputy Frank Rogers then saw the moonshine, 312 quarts of it, uncovered in the back of Guffey's truck.
Only 312? Piker!
Guffey told authorities he parked his truck with nearly $3,000 inside it in Flag Pond, took a walk and came back to find it full of moonshine.
Honest! I don't know how it got there! It's majik! A Mirakle! Da money wuz gone and da hooch was dere! Mus be nomes.
He said he has been buying whiskey like that in eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina for a decade.
Guffey was cited into court.
I don't know nuthin' and I can prove it.

#2  Behind the hill
There's a busy little still
Where your Pappy's workin' in the moonlight

Your lovin' paw
Isn't quite within the law
So he's hidin' there behind the hill

Bye bye baby
Stop your yawnin'
Don't cry baby
Day will be dawning

And when it does
From the mountain where he wuz
He'll be coming with jug of moonshine

So count your sheep
Mama's singing you to sleep
With the Moonshine Lullaby

#4  That's about $8 a quart. Cheaper at Walmart, especially when you figure in the gas for the trip from NC to Tenn. Next time stay home and get snockered with local juice. Cheaper and more time to get pie-eyed and stay that way.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Apparently Rastlin' is Fake
Cops: Ric Flair roughed up by daughter's boyfriend

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Most of former professional wrestler Ric Flair's fights were scripted. But Chapel Hill, N.C., police didn't find anything fake about the blood and bruises on the Nature Boy after a fight with his daughter's 22-year-old boyfriend.

Neither man was charged, but Flair's daughter, Ashley Elizabeth Fliehr, was charged for resisting police after the 22-year-old became belligerent and kicked an officer, Chapel Hill police Lt. Kevin Gunter said Tuesday.

Neighbors called police about 2:30 a.m. Friday about a fight at an apartment in the city about 30 miles northwest of Raleigh. The fight was over, but officers followed a trail of blood to Fliehr's apartment. She told police the men had fought but it was over and things were fine. Officers found the 59-year-old Flair, whose real name is Richard Fliehr, on a bed in the back room. The boyfriend was in another part of the apartment.

Flair admitted fighting with the boyfriend but he didn't want to press charges, Gunter said. Gunter refused to give the boyfriend's name because he was not charged. "He was kind of elusive," Gunter said of Flair. "He said everything was fine. Officers said he had a 'no problems here' kind of attitude. He just wanted everything forgotten."

Flair, known for his platinum blond hair, fur-lined robes and signature "Wooooo!" catchphrase, retired earlier this year after a 36-year career. He had wrestled for a number of big-name organizations, including World Championship Wrestling and World Wrestling Entertainment.

#2  I am not fond of wrestling and I never watch it on TV but:

First: We don't know how big and strong is boy friend. We have images of an Obama-like guy when
it could be that he is Hulk Hogan-like but 22 years old againt a 59er.

Second: We don't know if the fight was fair or if Flair (that I don't know) was hit by surprise and/or with a bat or similar object.

Wrestling is fake but you still need to be strong in order to lift the other guy and
agile when it is you who is being lifted and thrown around.

#4  IIUC, earlier pro-wrestlers came from, well, free or greco-roman wrestling and were often quite good at it, in addition to being athletically gifted. Nowadays, I think more and more come from other sport backgrounds, and so are not able to actually perform the moves except as choregraphies. The origins of pro-wrestling as the "catch as can catch" fights is also very interesting, talk about a rough and shoddy past.

Obama Campaign No to Girl Scouts
Michelle Walsh wanted to teach her 2nd-grade Girl Scout troop about the presidential election. What the Naperville mother got was a lesson about the rough-and-tumble world of political finances.

Walsh said she called both campaigns and asked for free trinkets she could give the 7-year-olds to help them learn. If they did well, she explained, each Scout would earn her "Ms. President" patch. The tchotchkes would provide added incentive.

A representative for John McCain responded immediately, sending Walsh a box filled with stickers and signs.

The Barack Obama camp wasn't quite so generous, Walsh said. The troop leader said she called Obama's Chicago campaign headquarters and explained why she needed the curios. Walsh said she was directed to Obama's Web site--where she could buy all the buttons and posters she wanted.

On the Web, a packet of 50 stickers that say "Obama '08" goes for $5; a yard sign is $8. "Got Hope?" bumper stickers are $3 each, or two for $5. Walsh found the prices a bit exorbitant her small group.

She said she asked Obama's campaign worker again if she could get a few items for free. She pointed out that McCain's camp had agreed to send a box and, well, her 12-member Scout troop runs on a very small budget.

Walsh said the woman at Obama's headquarters put her on hold. After a few minutes, she returned with the same answer. The woman told her that she sympathized, but the Obama campaign needs every penny it can get, Walsh said. "She said, 'We're up against the machine and we just can't hand anything out for free,' " Walsh said. "She was very nice . . . but I wasn't getting anything."

The woman then directed Walsh to another spot on Obama's Web site where she could print out pages for the girls to color on, she said.

Instead, Walsh e-mailed What's Your Problem?

"I was very surprised," Walsh said. "I thought this was a no-brainer. Especially since McCain's camp responded without a thought."

How, Walsh wondered, could a campaign that has raised roughly $400 million be so stingy? Walsh said she was determined to remain impartial. "My whole point was I did get something from McCain. I can't even hand out the McCain items without something from the Obama side as well," she said.

The Problem Solver called Obama spokesman Justin DeJong. Within days, an Obama employee personally delivered Walsh a box of pins, magnets and bracelets with the slogans "Hope" and "Obama."

DeJong said that whoever took Walsh's call at the campaign headquarters misspoke. "Each day, we go out of our way to accommodate requests for signs, stickers and other items," DeJong said. "We're unsure who took Ms. Walsh's call."

The spokesman said Obama's Illinois campaign staff has also offered to meet with the Girl Scout troop to talk to them about the importance of the election. Walsh said she declined the invitation because she would then feel obligated to bring in someone from McCain's campaign as well. That seemed a tad much for 7-year-olds, she said.

Included with the box of trinkets Obama's campaign gave Walsh was a letter from Obama wishing the girls good luck working on their "Ms. President" patches.

The woman who delivered the materials to Walsh's house was extremely nice, Walsh said.

Still, Walsh questioned why Obama's campaign didn't just send the materials when she first asked. "I thought it was a little ridiculous," Walsh said. "I guess I don't understand what the problem was."

Why did I just get an image of 7-year-olds asking questions during a 'Girl Scout Debate'.

Can you imagine the types of questions they would ask? And what type of answers Obama and McCain might give?

#4  One can hope the few bucks they DIDN'T spend to promote our future leaders will come back as a wise invenstment.

of better yet, the troop could use the responses in crafting their Ms. President project:
showing the good and bad sides.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
dancing at airports.
JERUSALEM: A performer with the renowned Alvin Ailey dance troupe was ordered to perform steps for Israeli airport security officers to convince them of his identity, a spokesman for the company said yesterday.

Abdur-Rahim Jackson was singled out from other members of the black American dance ensemble when they arrived at Ben-Gurion International Airport on Sunday night at the start of a six-nation international tour, said publicist Shauli Baskin. "They stopped him ... as he has a Muslim name," Baskin told The Associated Press. "He told them he was a dancer and was here to dance with the Alvin Ailey dance troupe and they told him, 'So dance'."

Jackson could not be reached yesterday, hours before the first of six scheduled performances in Tel Aviv by the New York-based ensemble. But the Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot, which first reported the story, quoted him as saying that his father had been a convert to Islam and subsequently gave him a Muslim name.

"I demonstrated a few dance steps and after another round of questioning they let me go and join the rest of the group," he told the paper. Baskin said that waiting for him in the group was Jackson's fiancée and fellow Alvin Ailey dancer Olivia Bowman, who has a Jewish mother with family in Israel.

Baskin said that Jackson did not lodge a complaint with airport officials, and the Israel Airports Authority said it had no record of the alleged incident.

Israel is constantly on the alert for attack because of the Israel-Palestinian conflict. A key element in its security checks is ethnic profiling, criticized by Israeli human rights campaigners as racist because it singles out Arabs for tougher treatment.

Such profiling is illegal in the United States, where passengers must be singled out for security checks on a random basis, but Yediot quoted Jackson as saying that the only place he has had a similarly humiliating experience in the past was at a US airport. "Once, when I returned to the United States after a vacation in the Dominican Republic, the security people put me through a similar investigation and they also asked me to dance," he told Yediot. "Maybe I should get used to dancing at airports."
