Riyadh Will Not Let Al-Qaeda Exploit Islam- Saudi Security Source
An authoritative Saudi security source has stated to Asharq Al-Awsat that the kingdom will not remain a mere bystander against the deviant group's persistence to exploit Islam to harm the innocent
That is to say, innocent Muslims. Non-Muslims are by definition not innocents.
and stressed that this is the policy Riyadh is pursuing in its war against Al-Qaeda organization.
All of it, or just Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, ie the wilds of Yemen? And what about related jihadi groups, are they cut off, too?
Saudi officials have always stressed that Islam has been hijacked by Al-Qaeda organization and other terrorist groups which use Islam as the slogan for their operations though it is innocent of such actions.
And we have always been at war with Eastasia.
Soddy Arabia is known as a leading country in the Islamic world and its leaders always stress that they are acting on the basis of tolerant Islamic principles which reject harm to the lives of the innocent.
Yes, they do stress that.
Through the information it provided to the American intelligence services recently, Riyadh helped foil an imminent terrorist plan by Al-Qaeda that saw the terrorist group send parcel bombs believed to be designed to explode on board the aircrafts carrying them.
I wonder if the Saudis are coming to the conclusion that hard jihad of the sword that triggers an overwhelming response is harmful to the Ummah, and therefore soft jihad of the law is preferable?
Perhaps someone in Saoodi-controlled ArabiaMajor General Mansour al-Turki, the Saudi Interior Ministry's security front man, asserted in statements to Asharq Al-Awsat yesterday that his country would exert every effort it could to prevent exploitation of Islam to harm the innocent and stressed that this is the policy the security authorities are following in their war against Al-Qaeda's terrorism. He stressed that his country would stand firmly against all the organization's terrorist plans that seek to harm Islam, Mohammedans, or others.
There it is: don't do that now, it harms us all.

I believe the ones coming out of Pakistan are Deobandis, Paul. They are similarly puritanical and vicious, but the group grew up independently from the Arabian Wahhabis... and they happily work together.

Radical website publishes MP 'death list'
Now that the "radicals" are getting up close and personal with the politicians they might focus their minds on Islam and realise it's not "just another religion"
A website which influenced a young Muslim to stab an MP has posted dozens more MPs’ names on a 'death list’ with an exhortation to Muslims to follow her example

Curse the judge, shout fanatics as the Muslim girl who knifed MP smiles as she gets life
A judge was subjected to a tirade of abuse in his own courtroom yesterday as he jailed an Al Qaeda-inspired Muslim woman for attempting to assassinate an MP.

Islamist protesters harangued Mr Justice Cooke from the public gallery at the Old Bailey, shouting 'Allahu akbar' ('God is great'), 'British go to hell' and 'Curse the judge'.

The outbursts came as Roshonara Choudhry, 21, was sentenced to life imprisonment for stabbing former minister Stephen Timms. Choudhry smiled broadly as the judge told her: 'You said you ruined the rest of your life. You said it was worth it. You said you wanted to be a martyr.'
Much more
But now she won't be a martyr, just another lifer in a place where most are much tougher and more experienced than she. No doubt it will be a learning experience.

"I do not sentence you to be hung for stealing the sheep you stole, but I sentence you to be hanged in order that further sheep not be stolen by your hand, which by all accounts would happen as assuredly as the setting of the next sun, and shortly thereafter, by you, were you not to be hanged."

Also Pakistani. It means the four part.It was a name given to administrators under the Moguls. Normally they were given one tenth of taxes collected, but those who did excellent work were given a quarter, hence the name. Normally a name for the land owning class.

China-Japan-Koreas
N.Korea Shrugs Off Request to Come Clean about POWs
North Korea dismissed a South Korean request to establish whether 10 South Korean prisoners of war and 16 abduction victims are still alive, it emerged on Wednesday.

Seoul made the request before the latest reunions of families separated by the Korean War, but Pyongyang said it is "impossible" to find out whether 25 of them are still alive and one is dead.

During each of the previous family reunions, the North allowed two to three South Korean POWs or abduction victims to meet their South Korean families, but for the latest reunions between Oct. 30 and Nov. 1, the North instead sent four former South Korean soldiers who had been deemed dead by the South Korean government.

"The North probably wanted to send a message that there are no South Korean POWs or abduction victims in the North but only 'former South Korean soldiers' or 'former South Korean citizens' who live well there," a government official speculated.

This suggests the North will not cooperate with the South to resolve the issue of the missing, even though it is demanding 500,000 tons of rice and 300,000 tons of fertilizer if the reunions are to become a permanent fixture.

In 17 rounds of family reunions between 2000 and 2009, it was confirmed what happened to 27 South Korean POWs and 41 abduction victims. Twelve former POWs and 16 abduction victims met their South Korean families.

Seoul has so far asked Pyongyang to trace 262 of them, but Pyongyang has said 193 are untraceable and declined to say what happened to the rest.

A second round of reunions that began Wednesday brings together 297 people from both sides who have been separated for 60 years.

Europe
Hindus want to publicly burn Korans, Bibles

The article is in German. Google translation is here.

Short summary:
Radical Hindus (not particularly nice guys IMO) want to publicly burn Korans and Bibles on Bundesplatz in Berne.

Islam experts are appealing to the cantonal police to ban this demonstration, fearing a dangerous response by the ROP.

It is of course the threat of burning Korans (Bibles are irrelevant), a violation of Rushdie rules, that is turning what should be a local human interest story into an international affair.

#1  Giving credit where credit is due, in India, radical Hindus are pretty obnoxious. While I could imagine them being against Muslims, who are always in their face, they also have a major down on Christians, pretty much solely because they're not Hindus.

#4  India understood long before anyone about the "Muslim problem".
That's why they created/gave away the territories that makeup modern day Pakistan to the Muslims, in the hopes that the Muslim minority in India would all move there.
Many did.
It kept India from having problems for many years.
The Muslims in India have a history of building mosques on top of Hindu holy sites, rioting for elevated privileges, and generally pissing off the Hindu majority population.
Hindus, most being vegetarian (and pretty mellow people as well) don't get agitated easily, but when they do... look out.

#5  So the radical Hindus might get into a rumble with the radical Muslims?

You say that like it's a bad thing.

What about the radical Lutherans? Are they coming? And are they gonna bring their shivs?
Posted by: mojo || 11/04/2010 13:12 Comments || Top||

#6  No, the realistic fear is that Islam will get into a rumble with Switzerland, that there will be terroristic attacks and murder. The issue is not Hindu radicalism or rejection and denigration of Christianity.

One political ideology that calls itself a religion is just more equal than others and must not be criticised under any circumstances. Polite scholarly criticism is just as verboten as crude and vulgar mockery.

WA 'jihadist' Andrew Ibrahim Wenham in Norway mosque battle
A FORMER West Australian jihadist who trained with the Indonesian militant group Jemaah Islamiah and later left Australia for Yemen has resurfaced in Norway.

He is now at the centre of a heated controversy over the proposed building of a Saudi-funded mosque.

Former Perth man Andrew Ibrahim Wenham has emerged as a central figure in a fiery public debate over construction of a mosque in the small town of Tromso in northern Norway.

The controversy had been inflamed after Wenham's history of jihadist activity in Australia was reported in a front-page expose in a local newspaper, headlined, "Muslim leader involved in terror network".

#4  cat stevens is such a national threat!!!! paranoid much?

746, the former Cat Stevens -- who before that was something else -- donated thousands of pounds to Hamas, for which he was denied entry to Israel, has written propaganda for Hamas, and participated in fundraisers for them in the U.S., Canada, and England. He sponsors a private radical Muslim school in England. He has been barred from the U.S. and Israel for his terrorist connections.

While the gentleman is not himself likely to engage in jihad -- much like Osama bin Laden -- he actively supports those who do. I consider that to be a national threat.

India-Pakistan
India should not be given "carte blanche" on Kashmir -- Pakistan
(KUNA) -- Pakistain Wednesday condemned the ongoing killing of innocent Kashmireis at the hands of Indian security forces in Indian-held Jammu and Kashmire and said that India would not be able to suppress the aspirations of Kashmiris for long.
Yes, yes. Thank you for expressing your feelings so clearly.
Foreign office front man Abdul Basit urging India to demonstrate "the sincerity of purpose with concrete steps", said that New Delhi had been resorting to "brazen use of force to stifle the voice of Kashmireis." Talking to the News Agency that Dare Not be Named of Pakistain (APP), the front man asked the international community to take strong notice of Indian atrocities in Jammu and Kashmire and help resolve the decades-old Kashmire dispute in accordance with the aspirations of Kashmireis.
Yes, yes, yet again. The proper way to share such opinions is through a diplomatic note, not to an employee of the vulgar press.
The international community, especially the major powers should not look the other way, giving India "carte blanche" to continue with human rights
... which are not the same thing as individual rights, mind you...
violations in blatant violation of UN Charter and Universal Declaration of Human Rights, he said, adding, the resolution of Kashmire dispute was also a sina qua non for viable peace in South Asia.

Pakistain and India, the two South Asian nuclear rivals, have fought three wars on the Kashmire territory since 1947.
Pakistain has physically absorbed a goodly chunk of Kashmire, which it refers to as "Free" Kashmire.

Iraq
Allawi says may exit Iraq power-sharing talks: paper
[Al Arabiya] The leader of the Sunni-backed Iraqiya bloc could leave power-sharing talks on forming Iraq's next government and lead the opposition, he was quoted as telling a British newspaper on Wednesday.

In an interview with Britain's Guardian newspaper, Iyad Allawi said he does not believe a deal to form a national unity government with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and other rivals can work.

Iraq has been without a new government since a March 7 election failed to produce a clear winner, leaving Shi'ite Mohammedan, Sunni Arab and Kurdish politicians jockeying for power.

"I have come to accept that opposition is a real option for us," said Allawi, whose cross-sectarian bloc won the most votes in Iraq's general election but did not win an outright majority in parliament.

"We are in the final days of making a final decision on this issue," the former prime minister said.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel suspends cooperation with UNESCO
JERUSALEM — Israel suspended cooperation with UNESCO on Wednesday to protest at the cultural organisation’s description of the tomb of the biblical matriarch Rachel, near Bethlehem in the West Bank, as a mosque.

“Israel has suspended cooperation with UNESCO,” Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon told parliament, according to a statement from his office.

The move comes after the United Nations cultural organisation on October 21 adopted a series of decisions concerning the Palestinian territories, including one on what it called “Bilal Bin Rabah Mosque/Rachel’s Tomb in Bethlehem,” a formula rejected by Israel.

Ayalon said ties with UNESCO would remain frozen until it repealed the decision describing the tomb as a mosque, a definition Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has described as “absurd.”

“The UNESCO decision was made by the automatic Arab majority and was another attempt to delegitimise Israel instigated by the Palestinian Authority,” the statement said. “Decisions like these push peace further away and harm the reputation of UNESCO, which has become a rubber stamp for the Palestinian Authority."

There was no immediate reaction from UNESCO.

The site, where according to tradition the biblical matriarch Rachel is buried, is the third holiest in Judaism, but also considered the 43,785th a holy place for Muslims. According to tradition, women who have difficulty conceiving pray at the tomb for children.

The tomb is in an enclave controlled by the Israeli military on the outskirts of the Palestinian city of Bethlehem.

Rachel’s Tomb, together with the Tomb of the Patriarchs in the West Bank city of Hebron, were at the centre of controversy earlier in the year when Israel included them in a national heritage restoration plan.

UNESCO chief Irina Bokova Bokova endorsed a statement by Robert Serry, UN coordinator for the Middle East peace process, that the sites have “historical and religious significance not only to Judaism but also to Islam and to Christianity.”

She also “expressed her concern” at the heritage plan and the “resulting escalation of tension in the area.”

Israel defended the decision at the time, saying the plan involved only restoration work and promising there would be no attempt to change the delicate status quo at these sites.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
US Designates Iran Opposition Faction a Terrorist Group
The United States on Wednesday officially designated the Iranian opposition group Jundallah as a terrorist organization. The Sunni Muslim group is said to have been responsible for several lethal attacks in Iran in recent years, including bombings at Shi'ite mosques in the city of Zahedan.

Although Iran is on the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism, the Departments of State and Treasury designated one of the Tehran government's most radical opponents as a terrorist organization.

In tandem announcements, State and Treasury officials said Jundallah has used terrorist tactics, including suicide bombings and targeted assassinations, in a series of attacks in Iran since 2003.

The United States says the group was behind bomb attacks at mosques in the southeastern Iranian city of Zahedan in 2009 and in July of this year that killed more than 70 people and wounded hundreds more.

Ahmadinejad slams Russia for 'selling out to Satan'
[Al Arabiya] President Mahmoud Short Round Ahmadinejad lashed out at Russia on Wednesday, saying it had "sold out" Iran to arch-foe the United States by cancelling a deal to supply S-300 ground-to-air missiles.

"Some people who are under the influence of Satan (the United States) thought that if they unilaterally and illegally cancel some defence agreements that they have with us, it will hurt the Iranian nation," Ahmadinejad said in reference to the missile deal between Moscow and Tehran.

"They went and sold us out to our enemies by unilaterally cancelling the agreement for which they have been paid," he said at a public rally in the northeastern city of Bojnourd broadcast live on state television.

Hizbullah, Syria Refuse to Respond to Feltman
[An Nahar] Hizbullah and Syria have refused to respond to remarks made by U.S. assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs Jeffery Feltman, pan-Arab Asharq al-Awsat said Wednesday.
"We got nuttin' to say to youse!"
Feltman said Syria should pressure Iran and Hizbullah to curb their activity in Leb if it wanted to rebuild its relations with Washington.
Face it, they want to get their colony back more than they want to improve relations with Washington.
Al-Sharq al-Awsat said several Hizbullah officials contacted by the newspaper refused to comment on Feltman's remarks. It said Syria, too, declined to issue an official response. Well-informed Syrian sources, however, told Asharq al-Awsat that Damascus prefers not to respond so that "things would not go too far."

National Dialogue Convenes Thursday without Jumblat, Gemayel, Franjieh, and Aoun
[An Nahar] The National Dialogue is set to resume on Thursday in the absence Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel, Free Patriotic Movement
Despite its name a Christian party allied with Hizbullah, neither free nor particularly patriotic...
leader MP Michel Aoun, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah, Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Wally Jumblat,
... who's been on every side in Leb at least four times...
and Marada Movement
the personal militia of Suleiman Franjieh, president of Leb at the outbreak of the civil war, currently Syrian toadies...
leader MP Suleiman Franjieh.
That'd be Franjieh the Younger, of course...
Gemayel, Franjieh, and Jumblat are unable to attend because they are traveling abroad, while Aoun announced on Tuesday that the failure to hold Cabinet session on Wednesday and discuss the false witnesses file has prompted him not to participate in the National Dialogue.

The PSP stated that Jumblat had previously informed Suleiman that he will not be able to attend Thursday's session.

Sources close to President Michel Suleiman meanwhile told the daily An Nahar Wednesday that the president is scheduled to tackle the Taif Accord, building state institutions, and implementing administrative reform.

He will call for avoiding getting distracted by disputes as they should be resolved through cooperation and understanding away from conflict, as no faction can eliminate the other. "We are committed to the National Dialogue's previous decisions, we should implement them, and eliminate all obstacles in their way," Suleiman said.

US Announces $10 Million Transfer to STL
[An Nahar] The U.S. Embassy in Beirut on Wednesday confirmed information obtained by Naharnet and exclusively published around two weeks ago about Washington's intention to transfer "an additional $10 million to the Special Tribunal for Leb."
"The United States is pleased to announce that we will transfer an additional $10 million to the Special Tribunal for Leb. This brings total U.S. funding for the Tribunal to $30 million since its inception," the U.S. Embassy in Beirut said in a blurb.

"We applaud the brave and tireless work of the Tribunal's staff members, who continue to carry out their duties in a professional, apolitical manner," the embassy's blurb added.

The U.S. described the recent attack on three STL staff members in Beirut's southern suburbs as "another attempt to create a false choice between justice and stability in Leb and to prevent the independent Tribunal from carrying out its Security Council mandate."

"We condemn such acts and again emphasize that efforts to discredit, hinder, or influence the Tribunal's work must not be tolerated. The Tribunal must continue to operate according to the highest standards of judicial independence and integrity, and we have full confidence in its ability to do so."

The U.S. noted that the "establishment of the Tribunal was a clear signal that Leb's illusory sovereignty is non-negotiable."

"We are confident that the work of the Tribunal can continue to help deter further violence and put an end to a tragic era of impunity for political liquidations in Leb."

Washington commended all of the donor countries "that have contributed to the Tribunal," adding that it encourages the entire international community "to continue to support the Tribunal, financially and politically."

Geagea: Hizbullah Will Not Resort to Violence if Indictment Accused Some of its Members
[An Nahar] Lebanese Forces
A Christian political party founded by Bashir Gemayel, who was then bumped off when he was elected president of Leb...
leader Samir Geagea ruled out the possibility that Hizbullah would resort to violence if the indictment would accuse some of its members.
Samir thinks wishfully. Or at least he thinks wishfully out loud...
He told the Kuwaiti al-Anbaa newspaper to be published on Thursday: "The party will only reap negative repercussions from violence and it will not yield a single positive outcome."
That was what happened in the last civil war. That still didn't stop it...
Furthermore, he said that the efforts led by the Saudi, Syrian, and Iranian ambassadors to Leb will not help in ending the country's crisis as it is an internal one "and we are not in a state of war except with Israel."

"The other Lebanese team has major regional calculations that start in Iran but do not end at the Mediterranean," he noted.

Geagea added that Syrian President Bashar "Pencilneck" al-Assad's trip to Riyadh and his meeting with King of the Arabians Abdullah "was not very successful, while the tripartite meeting of ambassadors was aimed at urging their team from not turning to violence in Leb."

He revealed that a broad Christian meeting will convene soon and it will produce a political document in the vein of the March 14
Those are the good guys, insofar as Leb has good guys...
forces.

Addressing Free Patriotic Movement
Despite its name a Christian party allied with Hizbullah, neither free nor particularly patriotic...
leader MP Michel Aoun, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah's campaign against former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, Geagea said: "It will not yield any results, but it is aimed at changing Premier Saad Hariri's position towards the Special Tribunal for Leb."

March 14: Lebanon Cannot be Taken over So Easily, Hizbullah Should Return to the State
[An Nahar] The March 14
Those are the good guys, insofar as Leb has good guys...
Secretariat General condemned on Wednesday the "intimidation campaign against the Lebanese that called them to boycott the Special Tribunal for Leb and the international investigators."

It said in a statement after its weekly meeting: "Those behind this campaign believe they can force the Lebanese to back down from their principles and surrender to Hizbullah's conditions, which is the side leading this campaign."
It happens pretty consistently, doesn't it?
"They are wrong in their belief as no one has the power to turn back the hands of time and eliminate the national achievements accomplished by the independence intifada," it added.

"Despite all this, the March 14 forces will not end its call to this team to return to the state, reminding it that Leb is not a target it can take over so easily," it stated.

It noted that Free Patriotic Movement
Despite its name a Christian party allied with Hizbullah, neither free nor particularly patriotic...
leader MP Michel Aoun, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah has become an instrument "in the foreign agenda's plan to eliminate the STL and basis of the Lebanese state."

"It is no secret to the Lebanese that Aoun is using his 'change' motto to reach certain goals, as for 'reform', he should first demonstrate his credibility before implementing it," it said. The March 14 forces called on the MP to lift bank secrecy off his accounts since the 1980s until today.

Hariri Confirms He Will Not Cut Links with UN Investigators Despite Hizbullah Demands
[An Nahar] Prime Minister Saad Hariri confirmed that he will not cut links with U.N. investigators probing the 2005 liquidation of his father, ex-PM Rafik Hariri, despite demands to that effect from Hizbullah.
Hariri also renewed his backing for the Special tribunal for Leb regardless of Hizbullah warnings that an indictment could plunge the country into crisis.

"The work of the tribunal is ongoing and there are many investigators in Leb, and they are doing their own work," Hariri told the BBC during his official visit to Britain.

Hariri said "Yes," when asked whether he gave 100-percent backing to the tribunal.

Tensions are running high in Leb amid unconfirmed reports the STL is set to indict Hizbullah members in connection with Hariri's murder.

Hizbullah has made clear it would not accept the indictment.

Hizbullah deputy chief Sheikh Naim Qassem
... Grand Vizier of the Hezbullies...
warned that any charges against Hizbullah members would be "equivalent to lighting the fuse, to igniting the wick for an kaboom."

Hariri insisted, in his interview with the BBC, that dialogue was the best way out of the current standoff with Hizbullah and downplayed the risk of unrest.

"I think what is dangerous is not to (hold) dialogue about the issues that are really difficult in the country, and I think this is one of the difficult issues in Leb," he said.

In a separate interview with the British daily The Times, Hariri said he does not believe that Syria's hereditary President Bashar Pencilneck Assad had anything to do with his father's murder.

Asked by The Times who he now believed killed his father, Hariri said: "I'm the Prime Minister. I do not have the luxury of speculating these days."

"I believe a relationship with a country is simply bound to the interests of two countries and not by personal issues," he added.
