Russia Says There Is Evidence US Secretly Sponsoring Daesh in Afghanistan
Official Iranian news site quoting Russia. Take the probability that one of them is telling the truth and multiply it by the probability that the other is telling the truth to get the overall probability that the words are in any way true.
[FarsNews] There is evidence that the United States is trying to establish ties with the opponents of the current authorities of Afghanistan and secretly sponsor the ISIS (also known as ISIS or ISIS) terrorist organization, Russian special presidential envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov said on Friday.

"Yes, there is such data, they [the US authorities] do it not for good, but for harm, because they really want to avenge their shameful military-political defeat in Afghanistan and, in retaliation, they do everything so that peace is not established in this long-suffering land, but even worse is that, in addition to contacts with the armed opposition in Afghanistan, the Anglo-Saxons secretly sponsor the ISIS," Kabulov told Russian broadcaster, RIA Novosti reported.

Since the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
return to power in Afghanistan in mid-August, snuffies have allegedly carried out several terrorist attacks across the country, including at the Kabul airport in August in which more than 180 people were killed, and on a Shiite mosque in Kunduz in October that resulted in more than 150 people being killed.

The United States withdrew from Afghanistan in the specified time-frame, but did so haphazardly, causing chaos at the Kabul airport, with Afghans desperately attempting to make it out of the country, and 13 American soldiers killed in a bombing perpetrated by a local branch of the ISIS terror group.

The Taliban government has not been recognized by the international community, although some countries, including Russia and China, are holding diplomatic meetings with representatives of the movement to rectify the humanitarian situation in the country.

According to the UN, ISIS attacks have resulted in around 700 deaths since the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan.

This is probably just a miscommunication within the Biden Administration. Some flunky took the order to reimplement all of Obama’s policies too literally. Susan Rice should know better.

Shout out to our Russian friends for being open to the possibility of a Russian proxy war in Afghanistan.

Reconstruction of Kabul-Jalalabad Highway Completed: MoPW
[ToloNews] The reconstruction of parts of Kabul-Jalalabad Highway that were damaged by floods in recent years has been completed, the Ministry of Public Work said on Friday.

According to the MoPW, the project cost 25 million Afs and was completed in over one and a half years.
It’ll be interesting to see how long until they have to redo the work.
"The road was reconstructed with good quality. It starts from the Butkhak Roundabout (in Kabul) and ends at Hisark district of Jalalabad. The highway was damaged by the recent floods," said Abdul Wali Mohammad, head of the transport department of the MoPW.

"At least 350 to 400 people have worked in this project, also 20 to 30 cars have conducted daily activities," said Miro Gul, head of the contractor company.

The MoPW called on the residents of the country to pay serious attention in maintenance of the street.

"I want to tell the people that this highway is a national asset and its maintenance is not only the responsibility of the governmentt but it is also the responsibilit of the people and also the drivers who should avoid from overloading their trucks," said Sadiqullah Rahimi, head of the department of construction of the MoPW.
"We will establish armed checkpoints to extract boodle estimate weight limit violations"
This comes as many residents of the southern provinces have expressed concerns over severe conditions of the streets and said that it was one of the reasons for traffic accidents.

"The highway to Kandahar be also damaged, especially the areas of Durani and Qalat and that is why traffic accidents happen," said Karimullah, a driver.

The Kabul-Jalalabad Highway connects Kabul with the eastern provinces and is considered as one of the main highways in the country.

Eritrean troops withdrawing from towns in Tigray: Witnesses
[AlAhram] Witnesses in some towns across Æthiopia’s Tigray region say troops from neighboring Eritrea
...is run by the People's Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), with about the amounts of democracy and justice you'd expect from a party with that name. National elections have been periodically scheduled and cancelled; none have ever been held in the country. The president, Isaias Afewerki, has been in office since independence in 1993 and will probably die there of old age...
have started withdrawing in large convoys, a potentially significant development after a devastating conflict in the region ended late last year.

The presence of the Eritreans despite a peace deal signed in November between Æthiopia’s federal government and Tigray forces has been seen as a major challenge to the agreement’s implementation. Eritrea, allied with Æthiopian forces, wasn't a party to the deal that ended two years of fighting, which was estimated by researchers to have killed 500,000 people.

"The Eritrean forces have started withdrawing from Shire in large convoys today," a humanitarian worker in Shire town told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named on Friday, describing several dozen vehicles carrying soldiers in Eritrean military uniforms. The witness, speaking like others on condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation, said that some vehicles were heading in the direction of Sheraro, near the Eritrean border.

A civil servant in the town of Axum said that residents had been told to avoid the main street as "Eritrean forces started to exit from the area." A resident in the town of Adwa confirmed the withdrawal of Eritrean forces there.

Æthiopian government front man Legesse Tulu and a front man for the Tigray side didn’t immediately respond to questions.

Eritrean forces entered Æthiopia’s devastating conflict in its earliest days. The Æthiopian and Eritrean governments denied the participation of Eritrea, one of the world’s most reclusive nations, until Æthiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed acknowledged it in March 2021.

Rights groups, ethnic Tigrayans and some Western countries expressed alarm over the presence of Eritrean forces, which were blamed for some of the worst abuses in the conflict including widespread rapes. Even after the peace deal was signed, witnesses alleged that some Eritrean forces continued to loot and kill.

In an apparent acknowledgement of participation in the conflict, the Eritrean Embassy in Æthiopia on Wednesday posted excerpts from state-owned newspaper Hadas Eritrea saying that "the favor the Eritrean government and people did to Æthiopia will be written in golden colors in history and in the region ... and (it) has got rid of an international danger," referring to Tigray forces that Eritrea’s government has long regarded as a threat.

The Æthiopian military "didn’t lose support in the last two years from the greatly disciplined, fighting capable and unrivaled Eritrean army," the newspaper excerpt said. "Because of this, the (Tigray forces) traitorous group defeat has been concluded with humiliation and disarmament."

Eritrea has been a bitter enemy of the Tigray Peoples’ Liberation Front that dominated Æthiopian politics for close to 30 years until Abiy came to power in 2018. Æthiopia and Eritrea fought a bloody border war from 1998 to 2000, but Abiy made peace with Eritrea shortly after taking office.

Demonstration in Ouagadougou in support of the withdrawal of French troops
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[RIA Novosti] A demonstration in support of the withdrawal of French troops from Burkina Faso took place in the capital, Ouagadougou, according to Burkina24.

According to the publication, "hundreds" of people came out in support of the transitional authorities.
Maff is racist
"The demonstrators called for the withdrawal of the French military from the base ... in Cambouance, the departure of the French ambassador to Burkina Faso, Luc Allade," the report said.

The action was initiated by the Pan-African Leadership Collective.
They sound like communists. Are they communists?
In particular, it supports the diversification of the country's partners in the fight against terrorism. In photos and videos posted by the publication, you can see that some of the demonstrators brought Russian flags to the event.

At the end of September 2022, a military group in Burkina Faso, led by Captain Ibrahim Traore, announced the removal of the head of the country's transitional government, Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, the suspension of the country's constitution and the dissolution of the government. Damiba announced his readiness to voluntarily resign if the rebels fulfilled several conditions.

Burkina Faso, located in the Sahel region , is trying to contain a radical jihadist offensive that has been ongoing since 2015.

Canada agrees to help repatriate 19 nationals from Rojava: Lawyer
[Rudaw] Canada has decided to help return 19 of its citizens who are being held in northeast Syria (Rojava) for alleged links to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS), said their lawyer on Thursday.

Lawrence Greenspon, the lawyer of six Canadian women and 13 children, was cited by Canadian media on Thursday as saying that Ottawa has agreed to help repatriate these people from Rojava camps following a "mutually acceptable" agreement.

The details of the deal between the government and the lawyer have not been revealed due to security reasons, said Greenspon who added that the fate of the pending returnees remains unclear.

Canada detained two women in October after repatriating them from Rojava.

One of the women, Oumaima Chouay, was arrested upon her arrival at the Montreal-Trudeau airport and handed several terrorism-related charges, with the charges including "participation in activity of terrorist group" and "leaving Canada to participate in activity of terrorist group."

Pentagon Fails Fifth Audit in a Row
[Blaze] Pentagon can't account for $220 billion in gov't property, fails fifth audit

The Pentagon failed its fifth audit in November after the agency could not prove expenditures for 61% of its $3.5 trillion in assets. To perform this year's overall audit of the DOD, which was expected to cost $218 million, the agency aggregated 27 separate audits conducted by approximately 1,600 auditors. According to Military.com, the auditors performed 220 in-person site visits and 750 virtual site visits.

The GAO's study reported that auditors first alerted the DOD in 2001 that the agency failed to keep track of its government-furnished property.

US Launches Private Refugee Sponsorship Prgram
This should be interesting.
[KhaamaPress] The U.S. State Department announced Thursday, 19 January, the creation of a new Welcome Corps program that will allow private sponsorship of refugees to help them resettle in the United States, read the statement.

The Welcome Corps, established with the help of Health and Human Services, will enable private citizens to help refugees arriving through the U.S. Refugee admission program.
Mandatory assignments are not seen as necessary at this time.
The state department said the program would build on America’s generosity of spirit by creating a durable program for Americans in communities nationwide to privately sponsor refugees from unstable countries, including Afghanistan, Ukraine and Venezuela
...a country in Central America that sits on an enormous pool of oil. Formerly the most prospereous country in the region, it became infested with Commies sniffing almost unlimited wealth. It turned out the wealth wasn't unlimited, the economy collapsed under the clownish Hugo Chavez, the murder rate exceeded places like Honduras and El Salvador. A significant proportion of the populace refugeed to Colombia and points south...
Blinken said, "Providing a haven and a new home for people fleeing war, violence, and persecution is one of America’s noblest traditions, dating back to our nation’s founding."

The program will start in two phases to identify, evaluate, and scale up the most successful elements of private sponsorship as an innovative, community-led resettlement model.

In the program’s first phase, private sponsors participating in the Welcome Corps will be matched with refugees whose cases are already approved for resettlement under the USRAP. The Department of State will facilitate matches between private sponsors and refugees arriving within the first six months of 2023.

In the program’s second phase, which will launch in mid-2023, private sponsors can identify refugees to refer to the USRAP for resettlement and support their identified refugees.

In the first year, the statement added that the program would mobilize more than 10,000 to step forward as private sponsors and offer a welcome hand to at least 5,000 refugees or more.

World court receives UN request for opinion on Israeli ‘occupation’ and ‘annexation’
[IsraelTimes] UN secretary-general says office will gather ’dossier’ on relevant materials for the court, following General Assembly vote asking for advisory opinion on the conflict

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) announced on Friday that it has officially received the request made three weeks ago by the United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
General Assembly (UNGA) asking the court to weigh in on the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict, Israeli "annexation" and the "legal status of the occupation."

The court said in a short statement Friday that the request was issued in a letter dated January 17, 2023 by UN Secretary-General António Guterres
...Portuguese politician and diplomat, ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations. Previously, he was the UN High Commissioner for Refugees between 2005 and 2015. He was the Prime Minister of Portugal from 1995 to 2002 and was the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party from 1992 to 2002. He served as President of the Socialist International from 1999 to 2005. In both a 2012 and 2014 poll, the Portuguese public ranked him as the best Prime Minister of the previous 30 years...
and was received on Thursday. The document, which cited sections of the resolution, offered no details on the court’s next steps.

The UN General Assembly passed a resolution late last month asking the court for an "advisory opinion," on Israel’s "prolonged occupation, settlement and annexation of Paleostinian territory." It also called for an investigation into Israeli measures "aimed at altering the demographic composition, character and status of the Holy City of Jerusalem" and charged that Israel has adopted "discriminatory legislation and measures."

The resolution — promoted by the Paleostinians and passed by a vote of 87 in favor, 26 against, with 53 abstentions — demanded the court weigh in on the conflict in accordance with international law and the UN charter. The vote came a month after the UN’s Fourth Committee passed a similar resolution, setting the stage for the General Assembly process.

In his letter this week, Guterres wrote that his office "will start to prepare a dossier containing a collection of all relevant documents" related to the questions posed in the resolution that "will be transmitted to the Court in due course."

Israel denounced the UNGA resolution, with Israeli envoy to the UN Gilad Erdan calling the vote a "moral stain" on the world body. He argued at the time that the vote delegitimizes and demonizes Israel.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu slammed the UNGA over the resolution, accusing the global body of "distorting historical facts" and declaring that the Jewish people cannot be "an occupier" in its own land.

The ICJ, also known as the world court, is the top UN court for mediating disputes between countries. Its rulings are binding and influence public opinion but it has no mechanism for enforcement.
Well then.
The court is separate from the International Criminal Court, which is also in The Hague.

The court last issued an advisory opinion on the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict in 2004 when the General Assembly asked it to rule on the legality of the separation barrier. The court ruled that the separation barrier Israel built was "contrary to international law" and called on the country to immediately halt construction.

Israel has ignored the decision, arguing that the barrier was a security measure meant to prevent Paleostinian attackers from reaching Israeli cities.
And now countries all over the world are honouring the court’s decision by building security barriers of their own against malign invaders.
The Paleostinians have said the structure was an Israeli land grab because of its route through east Jerusalem and parts of the West Bank.

The UN has a long history of passing resolutions against Israel, which has accused the world body of bias, together with the US. Israel has also accused the Paleostinians, who have nonmember observer state status at the UN, of trying to use the world body to circumvent peace negotiations and impose a settlement.

#1  Hmm. Conquering, militarily occupying and annexing land. Isn't that why the world went to war with the Nazis?
Posted by: Herman Hapsburg8987 || 01/21/2023 2:35 Comments || Top||

#2  Hitler started it, and then wouldn’t stop.

Israel, on the other hand, was not the one who started the wars, was not the one outnumbered and threatened with extinction, but was the one who acquired land while driving out the multiple armies of the invaders in 1948, 1967, and 1973.

Also, you puling idiot, unlike Hitler, Israel spent the first 70 years of its existence trying to give the land back, asking only a peace treaty in exchange. Egypt got back most of the Sinai, including the oil wells and the developed resorts of Sharm el Sheikh — but they turned down the offer to get back the Gaza Strip; Jordan was offered the West Bank with its Palestinians, but refused — because nobody wants the Palestinians — taking only responsibility for the Temple Mount instead. Syria and Lebanon refused the offer, so they’re still at war with Israel, and the Palestinians have refused multiple offers, year after year after year.

You’ve been told all this before, but you cover your ears and shout so that you don’t have to process information that would destroy your excuse to hate.

How utterly, predictably boring.

As predictably boring as all this posturing around the World Court, whose decision is not binding and which no one will enforce, though the Palestinians will raise some funds off it.

Five Duhok residents killed in southeast Turkey laid to rest
[Rudaw] The dead bodies of five members of two Duhok families who were killed in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
’s Kurdish province of Mardin on Thursday were buried in their hometowns in Duhok province on Friday. Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani has assured their relatives that the perpetrators will be held accountable.

Five people from two Duhok families visited the Kurdish province of Mardin in southeast Turkey (Northern Kurdistan) on Wednesday. CCTV footage, published by Ottoman Turkish media, shows that a vehicle was following the two families before they were all rubbed out on a highway.

One of the families, consisting of two people, visited Turkey for medical treatment while the other three people wanted to visit relatives in the country, Rudaw has learnt.

Some of the victims died at the incident scene while others succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

Haji Abdullah Salih, his wife Chiman Shahin, and his daughter Handren as well as Walida Haydar and Mala Ahmed Jalaladin were returned to Duhok province and laid to rest there on Friday.

The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday. Ottoman Turkish security forces arrested six suspects but later released two. The motives behind the incident remain unclear.

Ottoman Turkish media has published footage, recorded by CCTV and thermal cameras, purportedly showing how the perpetrators monitored the two families and killed them.

Mohammed Rashid is the relative of one of the victims. He told Rudaw on Friday that Ottoman Turkish authorities were initially not serious in the investigations but "after seeing that it is being taken seriously by the media and the [Kurdish] government they became faster [in the investigation]."

President Barzani spoke on the phone on Friday with both families, "ensuring them that the relevant authorities in Turkey are investigating it and they will continue until the criminals are referred to the court and punished," according to a statement from his office.

Hemin Mirany, chief of staff of Kurdistan Regional Government’s interior ministry, told Rudaw on Friday that they had "invited" Mehmet Mevlut Yakut, Ottoman Turkish consul general to Erbil, and handed him a complaint letter regarding the deadly shooting incident.

Over 60 Ottoman Turkish NGOs, unions, associations and officials in Mardin on Friday condemned the killing of the five Kurds in a joint statement.

Saudi FM rules out normalization with Israel without a two-state solution
[IsraelTimes] Prince Faisal bin Farhan says peace will only come by ‘giving the Palestinians a state,’ amid Jerusalem’s hopes to add kingdom to growing list of friendly Arab nations.
Thank you, President Biden. But that’s in public — behind the scenes joint projects will continue as they have done for the past twenty years.

Bankers make 'confessions' to European investigators as 'wildcard witness' emerges
[An Nahar] Lebanese bankers are giving testimonies that have started nearing the extent of "confessions" in the investigations that are being carried out in Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years. It produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. That's three statements. Only the first is subjective....
by three European delegations as part of a probe into Riad Salameh
...Governor of Lebanon'scentral bank, Banque du Liban since April 1993. Salameh was appointed Governor by decree, approved by the Council of Ministers for a renewable term of six years. He was reappointed for four consecutive terms; in 1999, 2005, 2011 and 2017. Salameh chairs the Banque du Liban Central Council, the Higher Banking Commission, the AML/CFT Special Investigation Commission and the Capital Markets Authority. Salameh is a member of the board of governors at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and at the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF). Salameh is the longest-serving central bank governor in the world....
’s wealth, a media report said.

"The Lebanese investigation, from which the Europeans want documents for their own investigation, included preliminary information and significant inquiries about transfers made from Raja Salameh’s accounts to his brother Riad and close associates," the Nidaa al-Watan newspaper reported on Friday.

"The investigations have determined that $70 million were transferred from a bank owned by a defaulting political family," the daily added.

"The interrogation of al-Mawarid Bank CEO Marwan Kheireddine tackled those transfers as well as accounts for Raja Salameh whose deposits swelled from $15 million to $150 million between 1993 and 2019 before being withdrawn on the eve of the crisis," Nidaa al-Watan said.

One of the witnesses, the president of a well-known brokerage company, meanwhile "left for Luxembourg to be interrogated by Sherlocks there and it is possible that he might turn into a protected ’wildcard witness’ in return for valuable confessions related to Raja and Riad Salameh that might be in his possession," the newspaper added.

Informed sources meanwhile said that the Lebanese judiciary is relatively cooperating with the European Sherlocks, after reports said that "sanctions might be imposed on any judge who does not cooperate, in line with the U.N. anti-corruption treaty that Lebanon signed in 2008."

#1  ‘…European Sherlocks, after reports said that "sanctions might be imposed on any judge who does not cooperate, in line with the U.N. anti-corruption treaty that Lebanon signed in 2008."’

Let’s see if we can get the UN to sign one of those coercive anti-corruption treaties with us at the threat of defunding and eviction.
