Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: February 1, 2024
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Worth noting, korrespondent.net has compiled its Invasion of Ukraine series into separate months, beginning May 9th, 2023. Linked in the title

[Korrespondent] 21:39 Ukraine turned to Russia regarding the return of the bodies of prisoners allegedly killed on board the Il-76, but Moscow has not yet responded to these requests, said Andrey Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Moscow Region: “This is an extremely complex and dramatic issue. And yesterday’s exchange - “This is almost the completion of the exchange that was supposed to take place on January 24, except for this list of 65 whom the Russian Federation declared dead.”

21:26 Ukraine was able to seriously spoil the production of the most distant Russian kamikaze drone Lancet. The number of UAVs at the front has decreased dramatically over the past few months, writes Forbes.

20:42 European officials are considering the possibility of transferring to Ukraine only those profits from the frozen assets of the Russian Federation that will be accumulated after the relevant decision comes into force, writes the Financial Times. However, such revenues for 2023 in the amount of 4.4 billion euros will probably not be transferred to Ukraine.

20:31 Zaluzhny, in his article for CNN, named three main goals on which, in his opinion, it is necessary to focus efforts in the war against Russia in 2024. This is providing the Ukrainian Armed Forces with high-tech equipment; introduction of a new philosophy of training and conducting combat operations, taking into account limitations in means and methods of their use; rapid mastery of new combat capabilities. According to the commander-in-chief, Ukraine already has the capabilities to destroy the enemy and ensure the existence of statehood.

“Technology has an undoubted advantage over tradition. They make it possible to increase the number of non-contact combat operations and, as a result, reduce the level of losses. I am sure that the future lies with the latest technologies, thanks to which the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to conduct effective operations. This is what we are working on “We at the General Staff have been working for a long time to radically change strategic approaches, the very philosophy of preparing and making military-political decisions,” Zaluzhny noted.

He also describes the main problems of the Ukrainian army: “We must recognize the significant advantage that the enemy has in mobilizing human resources, and compare it with the inability of the state institutions of Ukraine to increase the size of our Armed Forces without resorting to unpopular measures. Finally, we continue to be held back by inadequate normative "legal framework in our country, as well as partial monopolization of the defense industry. This leads to bottlenecks in production - for example, ammunition - which further exacerbates Ukraine's dependence on its allies for supplies."

The commander-in-chief also mentions the existing “political tensions” in Ukraine: “We must combat the reduction in military support from key allies while combating our own political tensions.”

19:43 The Russian Army massively fired drones at Berislav, Kherson region, the prosecutor’s office reported. As a result of the attack, two volunteers, citizens of other countries, were killed. Four more wounded were taken to the hospital, three of them were foreign volunteers. The head of the OVA, Alexander Prokudin, clarified that volunteers from France died. Among the wounded are three foreigners and an activist from the Ukrainian representative office of the organization.

Before this, the Russians also attacked the city with drones, one person was wounded.

19:29 The Cabinet of Ministers supported the resolution regarding the deregulation of ammunition production, said the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Mikhail Fedorov. He recalled that in July the government launched a pilot project - a simplified procedure for the production of ammunition for drones. Now it will be expanded to cover all types of projectiles and even missiles. Deregulation of the market will allow increasing the number of producers and, accordingly, the pace of production, the minister emphasized.

18:55 Thanks to successful attacks by Ukrainian drones on large oil refineries in the Russian Federation, Russian exports of petroleum products decreased by a third in January, writes Reuters. In particular, gasoline exports fell by 37%, diesel fuel - by 23%.

18:51 The Cabinet of Ministers supported the resolution of the Ministry of Economy regarding suppliers of mass-produced drones from foreign manufacturers, such as Mavic, Autel and Matrice. Now the state will purchase drones through the Prozorro system, said the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Mikhail Fedorov. At the same time, the delivery dates and places will be closed to the general public and inaccessible to Russians.

18:13 The EU did not increase the amount of military assistance to Ukraine, as Zelensky requested. We are talking about an additional 5 billion euros for defense spending for 2024 within the framework of the European Peace Fund, although such assistance was previously mentioned in the draft decisions of the summit. The head of the European Council, Charles Michel, noted that “progress has been made in supporting Ukraine through the European Peace Fund, and we will make every effort to speed up the delivery of ammunition to Ukraine by the end of the year.” The issue of creating a fund worth 20 billion euros for four years is planned to be resolved by March.

18:07 All 27 EU countries have agreed to provide Ukraine with financial assistance in the amount of 50 billion euros. How we managed to convince Orban can be found in the material Money from the EU.

17:34 IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi will visit Kiev and the Zaporozhye NPP next week, the agency reported. Before heading to Zaporizhia NPP, the head of the IAEA will hold high-level negotiations in Kyiv. This will be his fourth visit to Zaporizhia NPP since the beginning of the occupation of the station by Russian troops.

17:23 The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense reported that on the night of January 31 to February 1, the Russian missile ship Ivanovets sank. The information about the destruction of the vessel is confirmed by the so-called military correspondents of the Russian Federation, but the Russian Ministry of Defense has traditionally remained silent. Details of the operation are in the material Drones + Mosquitoes.

16:59 The European Council supported the use of income from frozen Russian assets to finance Ukraine. The statement following today’s summit indicated that out of 50 billion euros, 17 billion is “free support” under the new Reserve for Ukraine instrument. “Potential income can be obtained in accordance with the relevant legal acts of the Union regarding the use of emergency income of private organizations received directly from the frozen assets of the Central Bank of Russia,” the document says.

16:40 At the conclusion of the EU summit it is said that Ukraine will be able to receive funds under the agreed Ukraine Facility program for 50 billion euros, subject to a number of prerequisites: “A prerequisite for support is that Ukraine continues to support and respect effective democratic mechanisms, including a multi-party parliamentary system and the rule of law, and guarantee respect for human rights, including the rights of persons belonging to minorities."

16:32 Up to 40 sailors could have been on board the destroyed Russian missile boat Ivanovets, the Ukrainian Naval Forces reported.

16:21 China warned Ukraine that the inclusion of more than ten Chinese companies in the NACP list of “international war sponsors” could “negatively affect” relations between the two countries, Reuters writes, citing sources. NAPC has included 48 companies around the world, including 14 from China, on its list of “international war sponsors” because their activities indirectly aid or support Russian aggression.

15:45 Hungary has received guarantees that its funds frozen in EU funds will not be sent to Ukraine, Orban said. In total, Budapest remains frozen at 27 billion euros. Orban also said that Budapest accepted the EU proposal to develop a mechanism for verifying the “reasonable use” of funds allocated to Ukraine.

15:16 Russian authorities began sending refugees from Arab and African countries to the war in Ukraine in exchange for citizenship, according to an investigation by Novaya Gazeta. Local intermediaries who transport refugees to Europe through Russia and Belarus help recruit people to the front. The author of the investigation noted that videos with Egyptians, Syrians, Somalis, and Indians in Russian military uniforms, as well as photos and videos of Russian passports issued to them, are being distributed on Syrian and Russian telegram channels. All the Syrian passports he saw were issued in Yakutia.

14:48 During his address to the European Council, Zelensky drew attention to the need for sustainable supplies of ammunition to Ukraine. He recalled that Russia receives artillery shells and ballistic missiles from North Korea.

“At the same time, unfortunately, the implementation of the European plan to supply a million artillery shells for Ukraine is delayed. And this is also a manifestation of global competition in which Europe has no right to lose. And that is why today we need your unity to create the Ukraine Assistance Fund within the framework of our you of the European Peace Fund. This is such reliability and long-term support that now needs to be contrasted with the corresponding challenges. At least 5 billion euros per year, for a period of four years. A clear priority," the president emphasized.

14:23 Hungary will not have the right to veto the allocation of financial assistance to Ukraine, writes Radio Free Europe editor Rikard Jozwiak. He confirmed that in two years there could be a review of financial assistance to Ukraine, but without a Hungarian veto.

14:17 Ukraine expects to receive the first payment from the EU in the amount of 4.5 billion euros in March, the Ministry of Economy reported.

14:02 The Russian Investigative Committee claims that the investigation has identified the remains of those killed in the Il-76 crash in the Belgorod region. In total, more than 670 fragments of the bodies of the victims were allegedly discovered and seized in the area where the plane crashed. The genetic material of prisoners is taken without fail, so the data was on everyone who was on board. “The results of genetic examinations made it possible to draw an unambiguous conclusion about the belonging of the seized body fragments to six crew members, three military police officers and 65 Ukrainian servicemen who died in the crash,” Moscow says.

13:47 In occupied Crimea on January 31, several explosions were heard near the Belbek airfield. The occupiers immediately blocked traffic in the area, and local residents reported that a strong fire had broken out at the airfield. The Ukrainian Armed Forces reported on their successful work and said that “we are returning ours.” About what was managed to be liquidated, see the material “Bavovna” in Belbek.

13:05 The EU aid package for Ukraine was adopted with two conditions from Orban, writes The Guardian. According to the publication, EU leaders agreed to two compromises. First, the leaders of the EU countries agreed to discuss assistance to Kyiv annually, and, if necessary, to review it after two years. Secondly, “an additional measure was adopted regarding the mechanism for establishing conditions for the rule of law.”

12:56 On the night of February 1, soldiers of the Group 13 special forces of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense destroyed the missile boat Ivanovets of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, Ukrainian military intelligence reported and showed a video. The enemy ship was located in the roadstead of Lake Donuzlav in Crimea. As a result of several direct hits to the hull, the Russian ship tilted aft and sank. The search and rescue operation of the Russians, according to preliminary information, was not successful. The cost of the lost boat is approximately 60-70 million dollars.

12:37 All 27 leaders of EU member states have approved a four-year aid package for Ukraine worth 50 billion euros, said the head of the European Council, Charles Michel: “This provides permanent, long-term, predictable funding for Ukraine. The EU takes leadership and responsibility in supporting Ukraine. We We know what's at stake."

12:28 Radio Liberty published the first satellite images from the crash site of the Russian Il-76 in the Belgorod region. Planet Labs images from January 31 show the crash site. The trail that the plane left when it fell extends approximately 500 meters.

12:05 The State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted a draft appeal to the US Congress in connection with “the commission of a terrorist attack by Ukraine, as a result of which the Il-76 was shot down.” The document calls for condemning the “crimes of Kyiv” and withdrawing its support.

Meanwhile, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation officially stated that the Il-76 was shot down from the MIM-104A air defense system of the American Patriot complex. It is stated that 116 markings in English were allegedly found at the crash site and were examined. The Russian Investigative Committee claims that two missiles were fired by the Ukrainian Armed Forces from the area of the village of Liptsy, Kharkov region.

12:02 Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that Brussels is tired of Orban’s position regarding the 50 billion euro aid to Ukraine: “Today, Viktor Orban’s position is a threat to our security. This is unacceptable, so we need to think about the possible consequences, but, maybe not today."

11:49 In the European Union, despite sanctions, pro-Kremlin Russia Today and Sputnik continue to broadcast, reports the Balkan service of Radio Liberty. In the European Union, since 2022, the resources of these media only in Russian have been blocked. Also, the American version of the Russia Today website is not available in the EU. However, both resources still broadcast in European countries in six languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Arabic and Serbian.

11:36 Before the start of the EU summit in Brussels, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced the need to reach an agreement on financial assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 50 billion euros: “If Europe sees itself as a community in which everyone stands up for each other and also helps each other, then It must be possible to reach joint decisions."

11:00 US State Department Speaker Matthew Miller denied media reports that the Biden administration opposes Ukraine’s membership in NATO: “These reports are not true. You have heard the President himself, as well as the Secretary of State, repeatedly say that Ukraine will be a member NATO".

10:54 Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo is confident that the leaders of the 27 EU member states at today's summit will reach an agreement on financial assistance to Ukraine worth 50 billion euros.

10:50 At night, Russian aircraft dropped two guided bombs on a village in the Milovsky community of the Kherson region. Two people were injured, an educational institution and residential buildings were damaged, the OVA reported.

10:41 Last year, 58 Ukrainian drone manufacturers received government contracts, and in total there are more than 200 Ukrainian companies on the market that deal with UAVs or services and products in the field of drones, said the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Mikhail Fedorov. At a meeting with manufacturers, he emphasized that in 2024 companies need to scale up “because more drones are needed.” The main task now is to standardize the requirements and performance characteristics for drones.

10:37 In London, the former Russian “governor” of occupied Sevastopol Dmitry Ovsyannikov was detained on suspicion of violating sanctions legislation. The trial will take place on February 20. Ovsyannikov headed the occupation administration of Sevastopol from 2017 to 2019. In 2023, he was excluded from the list of EU sanctions - the court motivated this by the fact that he no longer holds positions for which he was sanctioned. However, he was not excluded from the British list.

10:25 Five missiles hit Crimea yesterday, said the speaker of the Southern Defense Forces Natalya Gumenyuk. According to her, the Russians “themselves admitted that five missiles found shelter, and even marked the places where this happened.” According to Gumenyuk, planes were damaged at the military airfield in Belbek.

09:54 In Kherson, after night shelling, the light partially went out, said the head of the GVA, Roman Mrochko. According to him, because of this it is impossible to put trolleybuses on routes. Emergency crews are already working to restore power grids. According to the OVA, six people were wounded over the past 24 hours as a result of Russian shelling in the region.

09:28 Budanov said in an interview with CNN that there are now more than 500 thousand Russian military personnel in the occupied territories of Ukraine. However, according to the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, in the short term, the enemy’s current potential is unlikely to allow advancement on the front line. Budanov noted that artillery systems and ammunition remain the most important needs of the Defense Forces, while in unmanned systems “we are more or less equal, speaking about the trend towards an increasingly large-scale use of different types of UAVs at the front.”

The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate suggested that the number of attacks on Russian infrastructure “will probably increase.” We are talking about all the main objects of critical and military infrastructure of the Russian Federation. Budanov also believes that “the next six months will be interesting,” as Russia’s offensive on the front line will end.

09:16 Ukraine told its allies that it faces a “critical” shortage of artillery shells as Russia uses three times as much ammunition at the front every day, Bloomberg writes, citing a letter from Defense Minister Rustem Umerov to EU colleagues. “The side that has more ammunition to fight usually wins,” the agency quotes Umerov’s letter. Ukraine needs 200 thousand 155-mm shells per month, the document says.

08:59 On Wednesday, January 31, the enemy attacked the Nikolaev region four times with ballistics - probably with Iskander-M and S-300 missiles. The infrastructure and power supply network were damaged, more than 400 consumers were left without electricity, restoration work continues, said Vitaly Kim, head of the OVA.

08:48 The General Staff announced the estimated losses of the Russian Federation as of the morning of February 1:

  • personnel - about 386,230 (+1000) people,

  • tanks - 6322 (+12),

  • armored combat vehicles - 11,773 (+16),

08:19 Late in the evening of January 31, the Russians struck Kharkov with four Shahed-136 UAVs, said Oleg Sinegubov, head of the OVA. Two drones were shot down by air defense forces, and two more hit the territory of a civilian industrial facility in the Osnovyansky district. No people were hurt.

07:25 Over the past 24 hours, 66 military clashes took place at the front, the General Staff reported in its morning report. #1  Russia is evidently replacing its lost tanks pretty well, although probably not quite keeping up with the attrition.

However, I can't figure out what kind of tanks they are currently using on the battlefield. If these are restored old WWII tanks, its not so impressive.

New war strategy from Zaluzhny. Objectives for 2024
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent] Zaluzhny plans to create a completely new state system of technological re-equipment.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny wrote an article on the website of the American television channel CNN. In the material entitled “The design of war has changed,” he talks about his vision of a new strategy for the war against Russia. The Commander-in-Chief admits that Ukraine is inferior to the enemy in the number of weapons and mobilization of human resources and proposes to rely on expanding the production and use of drones.

Drones are priority #1
Zaluzhny emphasizes that the main driving force of this war was the development of unmanned weapons systems. And in his opinion, drones are the best way for Ukraine to avoid being drawn into a positional war in which we do not have an advantage.

“Perhaps the number one priority here is to master the full arsenal of (relatively) cheap, modern and highly efficient autonomous vehicles and other technological tools. Such tools already allow commanders to monitor the situation on the battlefield in real time, day and night and in all weather conditions. But not only that. They provide real-time reconnaissance, allowing us to adjust fire around the clock, without pause, which gives us the opportunity to deliver high-precision strikes against enemy targets in advanced positions and in depth.

In short, this means nothing less than a complete overhaul of warfare—and the abandonment of outdated, stereotypical thinking. New operations could include the creation of digital fields, control of the electronic environment, or a combined operation using attack drones and cyber assets. Such operations will be coordinated and carried out according to a single concept and plan. It is important to note that the goal will not always be solely combat. It may seek to reduce the enemy’s economic capabilities, or isolate, or exhaust him,” notes Zaluzhny.

Rearmament of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Zaluzhny plans to create a completely new state system of technological re-equipment. “Taking into account all the facts at the moment, we think that the creation of such a system can be achieved in five months. Our partners share the same opinion. This time will be spent creating the appropriate organizational structure, filling and equipping positions, providing training and support, creating support infrastructure and logistics, and developing a doctrinal framework,” the Commander-in-Chief emphasized.

Three directions for 2024
In 2024, Zaluzhny proposes to focus our main efforts on three areas:

- creation of a system for providing the Armed Forces of Ukraine with high-tech assets;

- the introduction of a new philosophy of training and warfare, which takes into account limitations in resources and methods of their use;

- development of new combat capabilities as urgently as possible.

“Our goal should be to take advantage of the moment - to maximize the accumulation of the latest combat capabilities, which will allow us to direct fewer resources to inflict maximum damage on the enemy, put an end to aggression and protect Ukraine from it in the future,” the Commander-in-Chief concluded.

Revenge for bullying named as motive for Mutaev’s murder
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] The suspect in the murder of MMA fighter Magomedrasul Mutaev was subjected to humiliation and bullying on his part, acquaintances of the young man reported. The murder of Mutaev was preceded by an attempt in the summer of 2023.

As the Caucasian Knot reported, MMA fighter Magomedrasul Mutaev died from gunshot wounds on the way to the hospital. Security forces identified the shooter; according to preliminary data, the reason for the murder was revenge.

Acquaintances of a resident of the village of Korkmaskala, allegedly involved in the murder of Mutaev, said that he had always been a good guy. “He doesn’t live in Korkmaskal now. I can’t believe that he could have killed, at least because of a verbal conflict. He was always good and friendly. Information appears in local public pages that Mutaev severely beat him in his apartment about a week ago. It is necessary It was really enough to drive him to decide to kill,” News.ru quoted the young man’s fellow villager as saying. According to her, the security forces are trying to find the young man through friends and are conducting surveys.

According to data at 17.45 Moscow time, the Sledkom and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Dagestan did not report on their websites and Telegram channels about the detention of the suspect in the murder of Mutaev.

Another acquaintance of the young man noted that he was bullied by Mutaev. “Information appears that Mutaev severely beat him about a week ago. He put out cigarettes on him. It took a lot of pressure for to decide to kill,” the publication quoted him as saying. He also reported on interviews with security forces.

The version of bullying that led to the murder is also contained in an anonymous message published today by the Tut Dagestan Telegram channel. “Mutaev took advantage of the fact that he was stronger than the young guys in the hall. He mocked the younger ones, took things from them. I don’t justify the killer, but the guy’s nerves simply couldn’t stand it,” the message states.

The Mash Gor Telegram channel also writes that the murder suspect was humiliated by Mutaev. The reason was the young man’s words about the fighter’s father, according to the Mash Gor page on the VKontakte social network.

Mutaev was a conflicted person; earlier, in the summer of 2023, he was shot from a traumatic pistol, but then no one was hurt, the Shot Telegram channel reported, citing friends of the fighter. In the video released of the incident, one man walks toward a car as another man approaches him from behind, holding his arms outstretched in front of him at chest level. After this, the first man runs away, the second runs to the side, it is clear that he has an object that looks like a pistol in his hand. The second one pulls out a gun and shoots after him, according to the video.

Magomedrasul Mutaev was born in 2003. He came to martial arts from freestyle wrestling. The new position of Khadizhat Kadyrova fits into the personnel policy of the head of Chechnya
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] Ramzan Kadyrov is building a management system in Chechnya based on family and personal ties, and strives to demonstrate the success of children in their careers, and the appointment of his daughter Khadizhat to the post of first deputy head of the administration of the head and government of Chechnya was no exception, noted a human rights activist and a human rights activist interviewed by the Caucasian Knot. According to the law, such a position requires a higher education, the lawyer emphasized.
It’s a wonderful system for the connected, but not nearly so wonderful for the unconnected withe ability and ambition who’ll never have a chance to be useful.
As the "Caucasian Knot" reported, Ramzan Kadyrov's 24-year-old daughter Khadizhat (Karina) was appointed first deputy head of the administration of the head and government of Chechnya, she was entrusted with overseeing the social block. Before that, she headed the department of preschool education at the Grozny City Hall. Previously, Khadizhat’s older sister, Aishat Kadyrova, also received the post of deputy prime minister of the republic for the social block at the age of 24.

Almost the entire control system in Chechnya is tied personally to Ramzan Kadyrov and people close to him. Ramzan Kadyrov has   10 natural children - four sons (Akhmat, Zelimkhan, Adam, Abdullah) and six daughters (Aishat, Karina (Khadizhat), Hedi (Khutmat), Tabarik, Ashura and Eishat). Which of Ramzan Kadyrov’s relatives, friends and fellow villagers has advanced up the career ladder can be read in the “Caucasian Knot” certificate “ The main thing about Kadyrov’s personnel policy.”

President of the Assembly of Peoples of the Caucasus Ruslan Kutaev considers the appointment of Kadyrov’s daughter to a new position to be the norm for modern Chechnya. “Apparently, at the family council they decided to give her a new position. This is such a gift from the father of his daughter. But I always thought and now I think that all this is happening by agreement, and maybe on the orders of the Kremlin,” he told the correspondent "Caucasian Knot".

In his opinion, it is not so important here who has a higher position - the senior or the junior. “The eldest daughter is now the deputy prime minister of the government, and the youngest is the first deputy head of the administration of the head and government of Chechnya. But this is not so important. They are going through a process, the meaning of which is that all family members have a high position and this is indicated in the biography. No one can be surprised by appointments in Chechnya,” he noted.

On November 13, 2023, the 18-year-old son of the head of Chechnya, Akhmat Kadyrov,  was appointed  Deputy Minister for Physical Culture, Sports and Youth Policy of the republic, despite the lack of completed higher education required by law for such a post. In March, Akhmat Kadyrov, then still 17 years old, met personally with Vladimir Putin; the meeting was said to be informal. Human rights activists familiar with the realities of Chechnya regarded this meeting as a signal that power in Chechnya will continue  to be  inherited.

The head of the Civic Assistance Committee* Svetlana Gannushkina * agrees with him. “This has long become the norm in Chechnya. Was this a surprise for anyone? Not for me. Such an appointment cannot be considered provocative. What can be considered provocative is when girls are forced to get married. And such news has not even caused a smile for a long time. It’s a standard Chechen situation,” she told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

In her opinion, it is important for Kadyrov that his children are in power. “The new position is very serious, it will resolve important issues. This is obviously a gift from a father to his daughter. It’s more convenient for him to manage. This is his idea of the world, when all important positions should be occupied by members of his family and his immediate circle. His children, according to in his opinion, should be nearby, occupy high positions and take part in the governance of the republic. Well, what positions his youngest or eldest daughter holds, it doesn’t matter anymore. The main thing is that everyone has positions. Maybe he has a favorite among his daughters, I don’t know,” she noted.

Gannushkina welcomes the fact that women in Chechnya are receiving positions. “The very fact that women occupy high positions is already good. This is quite progressive,” the human rights activist emphasized.

According to Article 12 of the federal law “On the State Civil Service of the Russian Federation”, having a higher education for such a position is mandatory, Moscow lawyer Evgeniy Chernousov is sure.

"This article defines the requirements for candidates for various government positions. For senior positions, having a higher education is mandatory. There are also requirements for length of service and experience in related work, and what exactly is required for the post of first deputy head of the administration of the head and government of Chechnya, but without higher education It is impossible to occupy such a position,” he told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

In his opinion, the Chechen media may have simply missed the fact about Kadyrov’s daughter’s higher education. "I don’t think that she doesn’t have a higher education. Perhaps the media accidentally missed this point. All the children do, but she doesn’t? It seems to me that this cannot be. In any case, higher education is necessary for leadership positions in the Russian Federation", he noted.

On the website of the head of Chechnya, in the section “Administration of the head and government of the Chechen Republic,” the new position of Khadizhat Kadyrova is indicated, but her biography, as of 21.22 Moscow time, has not been published. At the same time, the remaining five administration officials have complete biographical information, including information on higher education.

14:20 Battle for Avdievka: advance of the Russian Armed Forces in the south of the city, situation by 14.00 February 1, 2024:

After the capture of the Tsarskaya Okhota fortified area and the consolidation of units of the Russian Armed Forces, the main battles take place on the southern outskirts of Avdievka. Judging by the objective control footage that appeared on the Internet, it was possible to establish that Russian military personnel were able to repel the attacks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and move forward along Sportivnaya Street.

Taking into account the fact that control over it is hardly possible without simultaneous advance along Sobornaya and Chernyshevsky streets, the enemy was also driven back there.

And yet the situation in the area is changing dynamically. Ukrainian tanks retain the ability to relatively safely enter the outskirts of streets and hit Russian infantry almost point-blank, which raises the issue of continuous control and fire engagement of targets in the adjacent Khimik microdistrict.

To the east, the Russian Armed Forces are advancing southwest of the Donetsk filtration station, where they managed to take several enemy strongholds. Rocket artillery and aviation strike the counterattack forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, allowing the Russian Armed Forces to gain a foothold in recently occupied positions.

The walk to the DFS building itself is a little over a kilometer. However, the enemy managed to dig a whole network of strong points in the forest, so there is no talk of quickly capturing the fortified area without a series of assaults.

On the northern flank in the Novokalinovo area, the front line has remained unchanged for several weeks. The site is an open area divided by a railway embankment, and with a large number of FPV drones, neither side is actively seeking to advance here.

14:05 Russian soldiers from the 218th Tank Regiment of the 127th Motorized Rifle Division in the Avdeevsky direction knock out the enemy from the village of Priyutnoye. Tanks and infantry fighting vehicles provide every possible support to our infantry.

13:55 Statement of Head of the press center of the "South" group

Units of the “Southern” group of forces improved the situation along the front line, defeated the manpower and equipment of the 28th, 54th Mechanized brigades, 112th and 114th Territorial Defense brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the areas of Verkhnekamensky, Artemovsky, Krasny, Kleshcheevka, Kurdyumovka and Leninsky.

The enemy in the Donetsk direction lost up to 310 military personnel wounded and killed. A tank, three armored combat vehicles, and ten cars were hit by anti-tank missile systems and loitering ammunition. During the counter-battery fight, the 122mm 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled artillery mount was destroyed.

Air defense and electronic warfare systems shot down 16 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles in the areas of Khartsyzsk, Donetsk People's Republic and nine HIMARS MLRS missiles.

13:25 In the Petrovsky district of Donetsk, a man born in 1960 died as a result of the discharge of a waste product, the city administration reported.

12:29 It is reported that the assault forces of the Russian Federation entered the outskirts of the village of Torskoye in the Donetsk People's Republic.

11:27 During the past 24 hours, the DPR representative office in the JCCC recorded 60 cases of firing by the Ukrainian Federal Unitary Forces, and 199 rounds of ammunition were fired.

In the Donetsk direction, the enemy carried out 16 attacks, in the Gorlovka direction - 40, in the Yasinovatsk direction - three, and in Volnovakha - one.

Information was received about the death of two civilians. Nine people were injured of varying severity, including one child – a girl born in 2010.

A total of 11 residential buildings, one bus and three civil infrastructure facilities in Donetsk and Gorlovka were damaged.

11:17 Explosions are heard in the Ukrainian-controlled city of Kherson - Ukrainian publication “Public”.

11:15 Storm Ukrainian Armed Forces positions in the Priyutnoye area.

A unit in an infantry fighting vehicle, reinforced with tanks, goes on the attack at speed. Armored vehicles are firing at enemy firing points, and artillery is also operating. After suppressing the firing points, Russian attack aircraft enter the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and occupy it.

10:35 There are reports that the Russian Armed Forces have begun an assault on the village of Ivanovka in the Kharkov region.

10:29 Statement of Head of the press center of the “West” group:

Units of the West group of forces continue to carry out operational missions in the Kupyansk direction.

The group's motorized rifle units, in cooperation with artillery, repelled three attacks by assault groups of the 30th, 32nd, 44th Mechanized brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the areas of Sinkovka station and Lake Liman. The enemy retreated in the western and southwestern directions.

In addition, the enemy carried out two counterattacks by assault groups of the 25th Airborne Brigade on the positions of our troops in the Tern area. As a result of the shooting battle, with the support of the group’s artillery fire, all counterattacks were repulsed and no positions were lost.

During the counter-battery fight, the crew of the 152mm towed gun 2A36 "Gyacinth-B" under the command of Sergeant Artem Glumov destroyed the American-made M777 towed howitzer in the area of the Volchiy tract.

One ship per month. Are the Russian Navy construction plans for 2024 realistic?
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Mikhail Zakharov

[REGNUM] The Russian Navy will be replenished with 12 surface ships and 4 submarines in 2024, said Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Evtukhov as part of the ceremony of raising the Russian Navy flag on the Project 677 diesel-electric submarine Kronstadt.

“Almost every month, either a surface ship or a submarine—nuclear or diesel-electric —is transferred to the fleet,” Evtukhov noted. “ We all understand that the navy is the basis for ensuring the national interests of our country, the basis for the security of sea routes, this is a strong negotiating position.”

According to the deputy minister, the dynamics of construction of ships for the Russian Navy has accelerated significantly. Over the past 10 years, the fleet has received 40 surface ships and 24 submarines, compared with just three submarines a decade earlier, indicating an eightfold increase in the pace.

In his speech, Viktor Evtukhov also emphasized that import substitution in the construction of ships for the Navy has reached 100%. “ Today, no sanctions can affect construction and delivery,” he stated.

A LOT OF NEW
Last year, the Navy received significant reinforcements from industry. It included, in particular, three submarines - the nuclear-powered submarine cruiser Emperor Alexander III, carrying Bulava ballistic missiles, the multi-purpose nuclear-powered submarine cruiser Krasnoyarsk, armed with Kalibr-PL cruise missiles and supersonic Onyx missiles, and also the multi-purpose diesel-electric submarine “ Mozhaisk” of the Varshavyanka project.

“These formidable missile carriers, unparalleled in their class, are beginning service in our Navy,” President Vladimir Putin said in December at a ceremony to raise naval flags on nuclear submarines at the Sevmash plant.

In addition, Russian shipyards handed over to the sailors the following surface ships: the frigate “Admiral Golovko”, the corvettes “Mercury” and “Rezkiy”, the small missile ships “Cyclone” and “Naro-Fominsk”, the sea minesweeper “Lev Chernavin”, the patrol ship “Neustrashimiy”.

In general, the Navy in 2023 was replenished with 33 multi-purpose and raid boats, support vessels, 11 naval aircraft and helicopters, including anti-submarine and transport-combat ones.

“ Work to increase Russia’s naval power will certainly continue,” noted the head of state. He also clarified that Russia will definitely implement plans for the construction of submarines and surface ships, quantitatively strengthen the combat readiness of the Navy, as well as naval power in the most important strategic areas of the world's oceans.

The strengthening of the Russian Navy continued in the first month of 2024: thus, at the end of January, the Kola Flotilla of the Northern Fleet received the Project 677 diesel-electric submarine Kronstadt, armed with Caliber missile systems. At the same time, the transfer of another submarine of this project, Velikiye Luki, to the Baltic Fleet is also planned for this year.

BIG PLANS
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, in addition to Velikiye Luki, the Russian Navy’s combat formation will also be supplemented by the small missile ship Burya, which is completing state tests in the Baltic, and the nuclear submarine Arkhangelsk of the Yasen-M project, intended for the submarine forces of the Northern Fleet. The fleet will also be replenished with several sea minesweepers and small missile and patrol ships to strengthen connections in the Baltic, Black Sea and Pacific Ocean.

According to the Ministry of Defense, during 2024, the next nuclear-powered strategic missile submarine of the Borei-A project, Prince Pozharsky, the fourth frigate of Project 22 350, Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Isakov, and the corvette of Project 20,385, Provorny, will be launched, as well as a number of other warships of various classes.

“Currently on the slipways, near the embankments of Russian shipyards there are five frigates, eight corvettes, thirteen small missile ships and more than 50 other ships of various classes, standing and working on them,” the country’s president said at the end of December.

The pace of implementation of the state defense order suggests that this year and next the Navy will continue to receive new combat units to replace Soviet-built ships. “ Today, ships of new designs, such as frigates, patrol ships and universal landing ships, are constantly being added to the groupings of ships in the far sea zone on a regular basis,” noted the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, in January.

According to the commander-in-chief, one of the priority areas for the fleet in terms of the development of submarine forces is the serial construction of multi-purpose nuclear and diesel-electric submarines. To increase combat capabilities, the modernization of nuclear submarine cruisers with cruise missiles in the Navy also continues.

As for surface ships, as Evmenov says, the main strength of the Navy in the near sea zone will be modern multi-purpose ships, combining the capabilities of anti-submarine ships and ships with strike missile and defensive weapons, such as corvettes of the Steregushchy and Gremyashchiy type, as well as small missile ships type "Grad Sviyazhsk".

For 2024, it is also planned to strengthen the Russian naval aviation with new heavy attack drones "Okhotnik" and "Pacer", and supplies of naval weapons, long-range sea-based cruise missiles "Caliber", "Uran" and "Zircon", anti-ship and anti-submarine missiles will continue. In 2023, the fleet received more than 7,700 units of such weapons.

WE KNOW HOW TO BUILD
Military experts interviewed by Regnum news agency agree that the plans for replenishment of the Russian Navy, especially in the field of surface ships, voiced by Viktor Evtukhov, look realistic. We are mainly talking about ships mastered by industry, the construction of which is not very difficult, says military analyst, captain of the first rank of the reserve, Sergei Ishchenko, in an interview with Regnum news agency.

“ The number of shipbuilding factories, labor collectives, logistics and technological support makes it possible to build and deliver 12 ships a year,” military expert, first-rank reserve captain Vladimir Gundarov agrees with his colleague.

Things are also going quite well in the area of submarine construction, adds Ishchenko. “ As for nuclear submarine cruisers and diesel-electric submarines, especially the Varshavyanka project, we have learned how to make them, and we make them quite quickly,” he says.

The devil, as always, is in the details.

The forecasts for 2024 are about relatively small ships of small displacement, comments Sergei Ishchenko. “ We are now talking about ships that are adapted to operate mainly in inland seas. But we simply don’t have enough ships in the ocean zone, and we build them at the rate of a teaspoon per hour,” the expert notes.

Of the large surface ships, if we talk about the new Project 22 350 frigates of the Admiral Gorshkov type, Ishchenko recalls, only three frigates have been built so far - Admiral Gorshkov, Admiral Kasatonov and Admiral Golovko, the rest are under construction. “ That is, we are building large ships very slowly, very few, and there are clearly not enough of them,” says the analyst.

The fleet’s needs for large ships, including aircraft carriers, are limited not by the country’s geopolitical interests, but by its production and economic capabilities, explains Vladimir Gundarov in a conversation with Regnum news agency. Here, in his opinion, the lack of shipyards suitable for this purpose and the necessary industrial cooperation, the high price, and the need for additional considerable investments in the development of the fleet as a whole play a role.

Not everything is so good with import substitution, experts believe.

On the one hand, there has been a certain shift in the positive direction in turbine construction, in engines, in large units, Gundarov notes. On the other hand, there are questions about dependence on a number of other components, in particular, mechanics and chemistry, says military expert, third-rank reserve captain Maxim Klimov, in an interview with IA Regnum.

In addition, the number of imported parts should not affect their quality, for which there are also complaints so far. Nevertheless, there has been progress in this area since the start of the CWO, and sanctions from Western countries really no longer pose such a danger as they did in 2022.

#1  It is my observation of Russian history that they always underestimate their own abilities and so offer a more moderate or basic production estimates. 1800's, WW11 Russia always produced more than estimated. With Putin they have continually upgraded production and have the people with the technical skills to utilize. They are ready for war. Russians always gave the West a lofty perch to admire but reality in the world today Russia has truly developed into a superpower. The Nuland's of the world want endless wars everywhere and dream God like powers in the world order of things. So some country does not comply as with NATO completely or USA, Greece, Russia,Italy, Cyprus and now Hungary face crushing blows to economy or leadership change as in Hungry today. The West has fallen in many areas. They talk a good fight but will the check clear.

West is using terrorists to destabilize the CSTO countries, the Foreign Ministry said
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Western countries are actively involving extremist and terrorist groups in their attempts to destabilize the situation in the CSTO and CIS space. This was stated by Ambassador at Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry for CSTO issues Viktor Vasiliev.

He noted that Western countries are actively introducing methods of using gangs, including in Central Asia. Some of these gangs “received registration” in the south and southwest of Afghanistan.

“Western countries are actively using extremist and terrorist groups to destabilize the situation both along the entire perimeter of the borders of the CSTO member countries, and in a broader context - both in the CIS and inside,” Vasiliev told RIA Novosti.

He noted that the most tense situation has developed on the border between Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

As Regnum reported, earlier the director of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergei Naryshkin, warned about the high risk of extremists and terrorists from the Middle East entering the CIS countries. He noted that the intelligence services of Britain and the United States are looking for mercenaries to participate in hostilities on the side of Kyiv and are focusing on training ethnic battalions from the CIS countries. The West considers some of them as a reserve for carrying out sabotage on the territory of Russia and other Commonwealth countries.

‘We don't need your flying trash': Misunderstanding scuttles transfer of 41 Australian Hornets to UA
[Yahoo] A senior Ukrainian Air Force official refused an offer from two Australians to receive 41 of the country’s decommissioned F/A-18 Hornet fighters, bluntly stating that "we do not need your flying trash," reported the Australian Financial Review on Jan. 30.

This statement effectively killed the deal, highlighting a stark misunderstanding between Australia and Ukraine amid Ukrainian pilots' desperate attempts to evade Russian aircraft.

The incident occurred as Ukraine was navigating the challenges of avoiding Russian fighters, revealing a significant miscommunication between the two nations.

Australia stands as the world’s seventh-largest military spender based on purchasing power, according to the Lowy Institute. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese claimed that Australia is among the top military aid donors to Ukraine outside NATO.

Nevertheless, the relationship between two countries’ military has been strained by reluctance from Australian Defence Ministry to fulfill Ukraine's requests for surplus equipment. This includes the MRH-90 Taipan helicopters, which were already being dismantled when Ukraine requested them in December.

Unlike many other countries, Australia has chosen not to reopen its embassy in Kyiv, diminishing direct contact between the nations.

Ukraine's government, including President Volodymyr Zelensky and his advisors, sends mixed signals about its military needs, complicating negotiations.

The idea of Australia providing Hornet fighters was initially proposed in March last year, and by two months later, news emerged that the U.S. government was "favorably disposed" towards the transfer of the aircraft, which had been in service with the Royal Australian Air Force since 1984 and were retired in 2021.

The Hornets, designed for aircraft carriers, have robust landing gears suitable for Ukraine's war-damaged runways, enabling them to take off and land on short strips.

Ukraine, however, began discussions with the U.S. and European governments for the less robust F-16 Fighting Falcons, fearing the logistical challenges of operating two types of foreign fighters simultaneously.

#3  Denys Davydov says Ukraine would not turn down F/A 18 Hornets

Notice the phrasing here: "would not turn down" vs "this never happened"
We have seen Davydov's byline on some of the articles Badanov has posted.
On Davydov's Youtube channel, he comes as intelligent and likable. Also extremely pro-Ukrainian, which is not surprising what with him being Ukrainian and all, but it does makes him overly optimistic IMHO.

Speaking as a Hornet fanboi, it is not an air superiority fighter, but would be just the thing for lobbing bombs and launching long-range missiles. I suspect this is just Zelensky being pissy about not getting a fleet of F-35s and the Hornets will eventually be welcomed.

#6  One of the quotes from that movie is, "It's not the plane, its the pilot."

How many Ukrainian pilots are there who know how to properly drive this thing, or will they be c

rewed by "Ukrainians".

There is talk, I'm not a fan of any of this but that is a valid point, about real world testing of weapons systems; that works both ways and if these things just end up as Team Russia target practice, that's no good.

This line has me a bit worried about the article as a trial balloon.

The Hornets, designed for aircraft carriers, have robust landing gears suitable for Ukraine's war-damaged runways, enabling them to take off and land on short strips.

Indeed; but the frame has a bit of help in the takeoff and landing using Aircraft Carriers.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
'They don’t forgive this kind of thing.' Israeli opposition makes claims against Russia
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Kirill Semenov

[REGNUM] The Israeli leadership needs to reconsider its relations with Russia because of Moscow's position on the conflict in the Gaza Strip. This opinion was expressed by the chairman of the Yesh Atid party and leader of the opposition in the Knesset, Yair Lapid, in a conversation with the Israeli portal Vesti.

“Israel will find it difficult to forgive Russia and its leadership for the position they have taken for a very long time. There is no doubt that the country's leadership must reconsider its position towards Russia. States do not break off relations just like that, but they also do not forgive in the event of such an insult,” Lapid said.

Lapid was referring to the fact that Russia hosted Hamas delegations in Moscow several times after October 7, did not sever its ties with this Palestinian group and continues to advocate for the creation of a Palestinian state. It also accused Tel Aviv of using disproportionate force in Gaza in response to the October 7 attack, which Russia also condemns and considers a terrorist attack.

At the same time, Russia has its own list of grievances against the Israeli leadership and especially against Lapid, who is now in opposition, who from June 2021 to December 2022 was the head of the Foreign Ministry in the cabinet of Naftali Bennett. According to the agreements, Lapid was supposed to replace him as prime minister in September 2023 if the government had not resigned. Therefore, the government itself was called the Bennett-Lapid cabinet.

Bucha and Lapid
You can recall Lapid’s position regarding the famous fake in Bucha. Then, without waiting for all the circumstances and facts to be established, he began to broadcast the Ukrainian point of view and stated that “it is impossible to remain indifferent to the horrific pictures that opened near Kiev.”

The then head of the Israeli Foreign Ministry openly accused Moscow of “deliberately causing harm” to civilians on the territory of Ukraine and called Russia’s actions “war crimes.”

This marked a major shift in the rhetoric of the Jewish state, which had previously tried to play the role of mediator. While other Middle Eastern states that consider themselves partners with Russia - such as Arab countries or Turkey - only called for an impartial investigation into these events, distancing themselves from any accusations against Moscow.

Previously, Russia and Israel managed to get around sharp corners even after the tragedy that happened in 2018 with the Russian Il-20 military aircraft.

It was shot down by mistake by Syrian air defenses, which repelled an attack by the Israeli Air Force, which was carried out in the area where the Russian aircraft was flying. Then responsibility for the death of the Il-20 was placed on Israel, but the incident did not lead to a serious deterioration in bilateral ties.

Nevertheless, from that moment on, the knot of Russian-Israeli contradictions became increasingly entangled.

The first negative trends in bilateral relations began to appear during the previous premiership of Benjamin Netanyahu (2009–2021), but they manifested themselves most clearly after the Bennett-Lapid cabinet came to power.

If we talk about ties between Tel Aviv and Kyiv, they have noticeably intensified after this government came to power in Israel. It is also worth noting here that both countries have previously tried to enlist mutual support in the UN - Israel voted for anti-Russian resolutions, and Ukraine voted against anti-Israel ones.

Kyiv supported Tel Aviv on the Palestinian track, taking an unambiguously pro-Israeli position during periods of escalation around the Gaza Strip. While the Russian approach, especially taking into account Moscow’s contacts with Hamas and Iran, is often regarded in Israel as pro-Palestinian.

Military ties between Kyiv and Tel Aviv
Military ties between Kyiv and Tel Aviv were also being established.

In particular, IDF troops took part in the Sea Breeze 2021 exercise in Ukraine. And the Ukrainian media, even before the start of the Russian special operation, began to report that Israel and Ukraine were cooperating in the defense sector, although they were trying not to advertise it.

“Information about defense cooperation between Ukraine and Israel for 2022 has never been raised anywhere. It may seem that cooperation between countries in this aspect ends with supporting each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, but this is not so.

Ukraine is interested in purchasing communications systems and certain types of weapons from Israel. Israeli Ambassador to Kiev Mikhail Brodsky, commenting on defense cooperation between the countries, said that negotiations are ongoing and are ongoing, there is a certain cooperation, but this cooperation has understandable limitations,” Ukrainian media wrote.

Israeli steps towards the Kyiv regime did not go unnoticed by the Kremlin.

Especially if we were talking about the participation of Israeli officers in supporting the Ukrainian armed forces and the exchange of intelligence information, which the militaries of the two countries could agree on even before the start of the Northern Military District. Agreements could have been reached, among other things, during the visit of Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexey Reznikov to Israel in December 2021. Then, probably, the parties came to an agreement on new parameters of interaction in the military sphere, which, however, they tried not to disclose, and the visit itself was kept out of sight of the general public.

It is possible that the well-known statements of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in a “historical vein” were made at the moment when it became known about the participation of the Mossad and other Israeli intelligence services in supporting and informing the Ukrainian troops.

Israel also began to transfer various weapons systems that were considered “non-lethal” to the Kyiv regime.

Thus, in mid-September 2022, Israeli media reported that an Israeli weapons manufacturer was supplying anti-UAV systems to Ukraine through Poland. Sales were carried out through Warsaw in order to circumvent Tel Aviv's refusal to sell modern weapons to Ukraine. The firm reportedly informed the Israeli Ministry of Security that it was selling weapons to Poland, although it pretended not to know that the latter was then transferring the weapons to Kyiv for use against Russia.

And in January 2023, already under the current Netanyahu cabinet, some “American weapons stored in Israel were transferred to the American armed forces, and then to Ukraine. ” According to some reports, it was also about American ammunition stored in Israel. Then they came to Ukraine, but, according to representatives of the Jewish state, these weapons did not belong to Israel. It is noted that this “military equipment” was returned to the Americans, at their request, for transfer to Ukraine.

Whether these were really American weapons or whether Israel “groped” for a supply scheme is difficult to verify in the current conditions. But it cannot be ruled out that if the conflict in Gaza ends before the Northeast Military District in Ukraine, then the remaining surplus from American supplies to Israel to fight Hamas could also be transferred by Israel to the Kyiv regime, as supposedly (or actually) belonging to the United States.

Additionally, in February 2023, Tel Aviv approved export licenses for two Israeli companies to sell electronic warfare systems with a range of about 40 kilometers that can be used to defend against drone attacks. They were approved by Foreign Minister Eli Cohen and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Then, during his visit to Kiev, Cohen informed Vladimir Zelensky about this decision.

It should be borne in mind that there may be other deliveries of Israeli weapons and military equipment to Ukraine that are not advertised and are carried out through third countries. This could also be hinted at by the Israeli Ambassador to Germany Ron Prozor, who in an interview with Funke Mediengruppe reported “behind the scenes” assistance from Israel for the Kiev regime. “So we help - albeit behind the scenes, and much more than is known,” the ambassador noted.

“Israel helps Ukraine in the defense and civilian spheres. Each request is considered in accordance with the defense export policy to Ukraine. We will not dwell on this in detail for reasons of national security and foreign policy,” the Israeli Ministry of Defense, in turn, told the Israeli media.

It should also be taken into account that Israel’s refusal to supply the Kyiv regime with offensive weapons and air defense systems does not stem from the partnership nature of its relations with Moscow, but only because of threats to the Jewish state’s own security. Thus, Tel Aviv fears that if Israel begins supplying arms to Kyiv, then Moscow will no longer be bound by informal agreements and will be able to increase its military exports to the Middle East. This means that Russian weapons may end up in countries and organizations hostile to Israel.

Let us recall that the Russian military-industrial complex is already suffering losses due to such a strategy. In particular, Qatar purchased Chinese VR-12A operational-tactical missiles, since Russia decided not to supply its Iskander missiles to the Middle East, given Israeli concerns.

Bombing of Syria
The ongoing bombing of Syria by the Israeli Air Force against the backdrop of increasing Israeli support for Kyiv also could not remain without a reaction from the Russian side.

In January 2022, military pilots from Russia and Syria conducted the first joint air patrol over Syrian territory. It is significant that the Golan Heights area adjacent to Israel also became a zone for joint exercises. In early June, similar joint air patrols were carried out again.

The addressee of this message, of course, is not directly named. However, it is obvious that it is sent to Israel as another warning: Israeli attacks on Syrian targets may also meet with a military reaction from the Russian group in the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR).

However, during the NWO period, Israel continued its aggressive actions against Syria. The intensity of IDF attacks has especially increased. At the same time, as reported by Bloomberg, Israel has stopped regularly notifying Russia of attacks on Syrian territory. In this regard, the Russian Aerospace Forces were forced to once again begin patrolling the demarcation line between Syria and Israel in the Golan Heights.

“As part of monitoring the situation, the Russian Aerospace Forces have organized air patrols along the border of the separation zone between the Israeli Armed Forces and the Syrian Armed Forces,” Rear Admiral Vadim Kulit informed the deputy head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties (CPVS) on January 18.

In the end, Russia owes Israel nothing, but rather the opposite. It was Russia that did everything to avoid turning the areas adjacent to Israel under the control of the Syrian Arab Republic into a springboard for attacks on the Jewish state by pro-Iranian groups.

Of course, the presence of pro-Iranian forces in southwest Syria is making itself felt. But such a presence is a tenth of what the IRGC and Hezbollah planned to deploy there. Russia prevented this by creating, in essence, a buffer zone there, where it is not so easy for pro-Iranian groups to gain a foothold due to the presence of armed units of the reconciled opposition there.

It is clear that Russia also did this not because of sympathy for Israel, but because of the risks posed by the spread of the confrontation between Israel and the pro-Iranian “Axis of Resistance” to Syrian territory. Russia has already suffered losses from this when a Russian Il-20 was unintentionally shot down in 2018 while repelling Israeli air raids.
