For future reference: Left-wing Zionist groups Americans for Peace Now and Ameinu to merge
Getting the information into the Rantburg archives for the next time they pop up on our horizon.
[IsraelTimes] Leaders of the two small but well-known organizations say combined resources will strengthen the initiatives each has been dedicated to as they worked toward similar goals
Americans for Peace Now stopped travelling to Israel almost a decade ago for fear members would be denied entry because they’ve been vocally supporting BDS efforts, which should be interesting because Ameinu — which succeeded the Labor Zionist Alliance in 2004 — has long been active in anti-BDS education on the left.
Two decades-old left-wing pro-Israel groups, Americans for Peace Now (APN) and Ameinu, are poised to merge — a consolidation of voices in the liberal Zionist camp amid Israel’s war with Hamas
...the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,...
The presidents of the two small nonprofits — Americans for Peace Now’s Hadar Susskind and Ameinu’s Ken Bob — told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency in separate interviews that the merger, to be announced Thursday, made sense because the groups complemented one another: APN works advocacy in Washington and maintains ties with the Israeli peace movement, while Ameinu, Hebrew for "our people," liaises with the broader left in the United States and engages more closely with national Jewish groups.

Ireland to give UNRWA 20 mn euros after key donors suspend aid
[GEO.TV] Ireland announced 20 million euros ($21.46 million) in support for the UN Paleostinian refugee agency (UNRWA) on Thursday and urged countries that have suspended funding to resume and expand support to the agency.
I think beggaring themselves to support evil is a brilliant idea — the sooner they bankrupt the country, the sooner the voters will throw them all out and take it back. OR, the sooner their Moslem colonists will take over, there will be a second Irish exodus, and we can all read stories about Moslem shanty Irish starving in the second potato famine.
UNRWA, which provides healthcare, education and other services, has been pitched into crisis since Israel alleged that 12 of its 13,000 staff in Gazoo

were involved in the Oct. 7 attack on Israel.

The mere allegations prompted a number of countries to suspend funding, including the United States, its largest donor. Dublin contributed 18 million euros directly to UNRWA in 2023, part of 36 million euros provided to the Paleostinian people.

Ireland has long been a champion of Paleostinian rights and its announcement follows a commitment by Spain last week to send UNRWA an additional 3.5 million euros in aid, and an announcement of an extra one million euros from Portugal.
Ditto about Spain and Portugal, with whatever is their equivalent of shanty Irish.

MIT suspends anti-Israel student group for holding unauthorized demonstration; MIT Jewish faculty advisory group on antisemitism disbands after school ignores them
One step forward, one step back.
[IsraelTimes] The president of MIT has suspended a student group that has held demonstrations against Israel’s military campaign in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. as protests over the war continue to rattle universities around the country.

In a video statement, Sally Kornbluth says the group, Coalition Against Apartheid or CAA, held a demonstration Monday night without going through the university’s permission process required of all groups. The protest was against the Israeli military’s possible ground invasion of Rafah, the city on the southern Gaza border where 1.4 million Paleostinians have fled to escape fighting elsewhere in the monthslong war.

As a result, the group received a letter Tuesday advising that its privileges as a student group would be suspended. It will not get any kind of funding that student group’s normally get nor will it be able to use MIT facilities nor hold any demonstrations on campus.

"I want to be clear: suspending the CAA is not related to the content of their speech," Kornbluth says.

"I fully support the right of everyone on our campus to express their views. However,
Switzerland makes more than cheese...
we have clear, reasonable time, place and manner policies for good reason," she says. "The point of these policies is to make sure that members of the MIT community can work, learn and do their work on campus without disruption. We also need to keep the community safe."

The CAA, in a statement, demands that it be reinstated and calls MIT’s move an attack on its right to fight for what it says is "Paleostinian liberation." It also says that 13 student organizers have individually been threatened with permanent suspension from MIT.

The president didn’t address such disciplinary action against student organizers in her video messages.

"For over four months, the MIT administration has continued to silence our voices by applying unjust punitive measures to our actions," the group says of its response to what it called "genocide perpetrated by the Israeli occupation in Paleostine."

"These attacks on our right to protest are not only suppressive but expose the moral failure and desperation of the administration," the group adds.

NY National Guard urged to check migrants arriving in NYC for ‘Tren de Aragua' tattoos as gang's numbers grow stateside
See also here.
[NYPost] New York State National Guard troops are being told to check all migrants arriving in the Big Apple for distinctive tattoos linking them to the vicious Venezuelan “Tren de Aragua” street gang, The Post has learned.

The decree comes as the NYPD this week issued a “Situational Awareness Alert” warning that the brutal gang is increasingly making its presence known in the five boroughs — with members claiming asylum at the US border and flocking to New York to join other gangbangers.

“It’s to a point that they had to post policies on use of force like if we were in a combat zone,” one National Guard source said Wednesday.

“Tren de Aragua” — Spanish for Aragua Train, a shout-out to the gang’s origins as a railroad labor union in Aragua, Venezuela — is growing in numbers in the Big Apple and has been linked by law enforcement to a recent spree of cellphone robberies, The Post revealed this week.

The brutal gang is now firmly on the NYPD’s radar, with the new bulletin warning: “Tren de Aragua’s newly established presence in New York City may incite further gang-related violence — including stabbings, assaults and robberies — raising public safety concerns.”

“Given the potential threat posed by TdA’s growing presence in the city, the [NYPD Intelligence and Counter Terrorism Bureau] recommends members of the service maintain situational awareness of symbols and iconography used by the gang to identify local activity and trends,” the alert said.

“Should you identify any of the symbols or iconography below and would like real-time assistance, please coordinate with your precinct Field Intelligence Team.”

According to the department, gang member tattoos include the Nike logo of NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan along with his uniform number, 23 — with the number referring to “23 de Enero,” or 23rd of January, a Venezuelan neighborhood that spawned a revolutionary group in the 1980s.

Other common gang tats include a crown, weapons like AK-47 assault rifles, stars and gas masks.
crowns = Latin Kings gang
Some “Tren de Aragua” members wear tattoos with the initials “HJ,” for “Hijos de Dios,” or Sons of God, which can be part of the gang’s lingo, or the phrase “Hasta la Muerte,” or Until Death, in body ink.

The warnings have been passed on to about 2,000 National Guard members across the state who are assigned to patrol duties at hotels and shelters housing thousands of asylum seekers.

New York City alone has seen more than 170,000 migrants from the US border flooding in, with more than 65,000 still in city care — including a large contingent of Venezuelans.

The Post reported this week that “Tren de Aragua” members have been among them, and could be behind a lucrative crew of moped-riding thieves terrorizing the city.

India-Pakistan
Imran Khan was ousted on Gen Bajwa's directives: Fazlur Rehman
[GEO.TV] Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Emir Maulana Fazlur Rehman said Thursday that the no-confidence motion that ousted former prime minister Imran Khan was tabled on the directives of ex-army chief General (retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa.

In an interview on a private news channel, Fazl, who was the chief of the multi-party alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) responsible for removing Khan, said: “I was personally against the no-confidence move [...] but if I had said no despite insistence of other parties, then an impression would’ve been given that I ‘saved’ the PTI founder.”

The PDM removed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in April 2022 and led by Shehbaz Sharif, the multi-party alliance ruled the country for 16 months before handing over the reins to the caretaker set-up.

At first, Khan insisted that the US had him removed — a claim that the Joe Biden administration vehemently rejected. However, the ex-prime minister later shifted the blame to Gen Bajwa.

In an interview in February last year, Khan, citing an apparent conversation of the retired general with a journalist, said General Bajwa had “accepted and clarified that he was behind our government's ouster”.

After he became the first prime minister to be ousted via a no-trust motion, Khan continued a tirade against the establishment; however, politicians also said that the ex-army chief was involved in the PTI’s ouster.

Fazl, during the interview, said: “While the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was running the movement for a no-confidence motion, Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hamid told me that I could do whatever I wanted, but within the system.”

The JUI-F chief said Hamid told him that he could not “do anything outside the system” — meaning that every move should be made inside the parliament, not on the streets.

“But I rejected his directions,” he said, but noted that later on, the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), and others left the PTI-led government.

“When they said that [the anti-PTI] is now in majority, I had to agree with them otherwise it would’ve been said that I helped save Imran Khan,” the JUI-F chief, who has rejected February 8 election results, said.

GOVERNMENT FORMATION
The February 8 did not return a clear majority for anyone, but independent candidates backed by Khan won 92 out of 264 seats, making them the largest group, followed by PML-N (79) and the PPP (54).

However, every party, even the PML-N which is seemingly about to form the next government, is unhappy with the election results.

For his party, Fazl has decided to join the parliament, but not become part of the government. “The decisions will not be made in the parliament anymore, they will be made on the streets.”

He noted that apparently, “rigging in elections” benefited the PML-N and there’s a rumour that Nawaz was not winning the Lahore seat.

Fazl said that PML-N’s prime minister candidate Shehbaz had paid him a visit to speak about government formation, but he rejected the idea and instead called on the Nawaz-led party to join him in the opposition.

“But Shehbaz left without responding to my offer [...] for me, the parliament has lost its credibility. If the establishment this that the elections were fair, then the May 9 narrative has been buried.”

...aka The Great Khan, who isn't your heaviest-duty thinker, maybe not even among the top five...
.

In a video statement doing the rounds on social media, the politician claimed he had been receiving threats that he would lose his provincial assembly seat if he did not jump ship to join the Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) or Muttahida Qaumi Movement
...English: United National Movement, generally known as MQM, is the 3rd largest political party and the largest secular political party in Pakistain with particular strength in Sindh. From 1992 to 1999, the MQM was the target of the Pak Army's Operation Cleanup leaving thousands of urdu speaking civilians dead...
-Pakistain (MQM-P).

"I've been receiving phone calls since morning asking me to leave Imran Khan. I told them that I won't leave Imran Khan under any circumstances," he said in the video statement.

Jadoon said he received his results and Form 47 last night. He also spoke about being threatened to change his seat and "forced to join" the Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistain.

The politician said he stands with Imran Khan and his workers who worked for him day and night to get him elected by the constituency's people, despite being forced to leave the seat.

"I will die but never leave Imran Khan's side. Thousands of such seats can be sacrificed for Imran Khan and the people of my constituency," he said, adding he has no interest in becoming a member of the provincial assembly.

Jadoon won the PS-115 seat after securing 20,609 votes against PPP's Muhammad Asif Khan in the February 8 general elections.

However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
the PPP claimed its candidate was declared the winner in the recounting.

In a separate audio being attributed to Jadoon and released this morning, the politician allegedly said he was receiving phone calls from different private numbers pressuring him to join other political parties and quit PTI.

Jadoon added that when he refused to do so, they threatened him with snatching the seat.

"I have all three forms — 47, 48 and 49. Even though no recounting is held after the issuance of From 48," he said.

However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
Jadoon said at 3:30pm, he was verbally informed by the returning officer's office that the recount of the votes would be held at 5pm on Wednesday.

"I neither received any letter nor was informed about it," he said, adding that the seat had been snatched from him after his refusal to leave Imran Khan.

The politician, in the audio, also spoke about "rigging" and "tampering" in Form 45, claiming that he was declared the winner in Form 47 on February 9 night with a lead of around 1,700 to 1,800 votes.

PTI-BACKED EJAZ KHAN SWATI FROM PS-88 JOINS PPP
On the other hand, another newly elected PTI-backed independent candidate from PS-88 in Malir, Ejaz Khan Swati, announced joining the PPP following his win in the general polls.

In a video statement, Swati spoke about his intention to join the PPP for the betterment of the people, his friends and the overall welfare and prosperity of the constituency.

He said his decision to join the party is unconditional, with the sole purpose of serving the people of his constituency.

Swati was elected as an independent candidate with the support of PTI from PS-88 Malir, thereby increasing the number of PPP members in the Sindh Assembly to 86.

In response to Swati's announcement, PTI Karachi's President Khurram Sher Zaman said the party has decided to suspend the politician's membership.

Speaking to Geo News, Zaman said if those who take an oath in the name of Allah are not ours, then they cannot belong to anyone else either. He urged the PPP to refrain from including "such traitors" in its fold.

‘Hamas is not a terrorist group,' says UN Relief Chief Martin Griffiths
[Jpost] UN Relief Chief Martin Griffiths told a representative from Sky News on Wednesday that he did not consider Hamas to be a terrorist group.
Despite the fact it it takes hostages.
Asked about the feasibility of Israel’s military goal to eliminate Hamas and disallow the terrorist group from having any governing say in Gaza, Griffiths responded "Hamas is not a terrorist group for us, as you know, it is a political movement. But, I think it is very very difficult to dislodge these groups without a negotiated solution; which includes their aspirations.

"I cannot think of an example offhand of a place where a victory through warfare has succeeded against a well-entrenched group, terrorist or otherwise."
It appears the British diplomatic service will let anyone in these days — clearly the education at the University of Sussex does not compare to Oxford and Cambridge of yore. Remember the Nazis? The Japanese empire? Argentina in the Falkland Islands? Saddam Hussein’s Ba’athists in Iraq, Moammar Khadaffy’s Arab Socialists in Libya? Going farther back we see the Mongols, expansionist Islam, expansionist Rome, the Babylonians, Egypt, the Medes and Persians, the Assyrians, the Hittites, China...and that’s not including sub-Saharan Africa, the Americas, or most of Asia.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran says it will reciprocate if its ships are seized by US
Yeah, yeah. They’ve been reciprocating even before anyone did anything, so this won’t change anything.
[IsraelTimes] Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
will reciprocate if its ships are seized, the legal adviser to Iran’s President tells state media, in response to a statement by the United States Department of Justice.

This month, the Department of Justice issued a statement announcing the seizure of more than 500,000 barrels of Iranian fuel to clamp down on the "Revolutionary Guards’ financing network."

"If an Iranian ship is seized, we will reciprocate and the legal way is not closed in this regard," legal adviser Mohammad Dehghan says, adding that he was not able to confirm whether US authorities had seized an Iranian vessel.

Court orders by Iran’s judicial system have often been grounds for the seizure of foreign tankers by the Revolutionary Guards.

Berri urges int'l community to 'stop Israeli killing machine'
[An Nahar] Parliament Speaker Nabih Knobby Berri
...Speaker of the Lebanese parliament, head of the Amal Shiite party aligned with Hezbollah, a not very subtle sock puppet of the Medes and Persians...
on Thursday described Israel’s deadly dronezap on a building in Nabatiyeh as "a new massacre" that Israel has added to "its record that is full of murder, terrorism and genocidal wars."

Lamenting a "premeditated massacre," Berri called on the international envoys who are visiting Leb
...an Iranian satrapy currently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. organizations to address "the bloodshed in Nabatiyeh, Houla, Sawwaneh and Adshit."

"Don’t condemn and deplore but rather act instantly to stop the Israeli killing machine and rein in the leaders of the occupation entity who are taking the region to a destructive war," the Speaker added.

Seven civilians and three Hezbollah fighters including a commander were killed in the overnight strike in Nabatiyeh. The raid resulted in the highest civilian corpse count in a single strike in Lebanon since cross-border hostilities began in October, raising fears of a broader conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. A woman and two children were killed in a strike the same day on the southern town of Sawwaneh.

The cross-border violence has killed at least 257 people on the Lebanese side, most of them Hezbollah fighters but also including 38 civilians.

#1  Typical Arab strategy. Start a war, then start screaming about "civilian casualties". And then all your friends: Western degenerates and the proud Wakandans of Africa; start pressuring Israel for "humanitarian" cease fire.

Gallant warns Israel can strike 'at 50 kms, in Beirut and anywhere else'
[An Nahar] Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant noted Thursday that the Israeli military has stepped up its attacks against Hezbollah by "one level out of ten," warning that "the Air Force planes flying currently in the skies of Leb

have heavier bombs for more distant targets."

Speaking during a war simulation carried out by the so-called emergency preparedness committee, Gallant said the conferees were gathered after "an intense day in the north," in reference to a deadly rocket barrage on the Israeli army’s Northern Command headquarters in Safad and Israel’s subsequent deadly response in south Lebanon.

He said Hezbollah went up half a step, while Israel went up a full one with its response, "but it’s one step out of ten."

"We can attack not only at 20 kilometers (from the border), but also at 50 kilometers, and in Beirut and anywhere else," Gallant said.

"We do not want to reach this situation, we do not want to enter into a war, but rather are interested in reaching an agreement that will allow the safe return of residents of the north to their homes, under an agreement process," he said, referring to tens of thousands of Israelis displaced by the conflict.

"But if there is no choice, we will act to bring (the residents) back and create the appropriate security for them. This should be clear to both our enemies and our friends. And as the State of Israel, the defense establishment, and the IDF (Israeli army) have proven in recent months, when we say we mean it," he added.

The meeting, attended by several government ministers, defense officials, and other civilian officials, simulated a war scenario in northern Israel with potential damage to power lines, issues with transporting food, and complex medical evacuations, according to the Defense Ministry.
