Great (long) article on the B-1, with video. Worth a look.

#1  As had the B-52, the A-10, and the F-16. Any aircraft that has some loiter time and can carry smart bombs is proving its worth in Afghanistan.

#3  Thank you doctor. I enjoyed the read up to the point where the it sited the ground commander as no longer having final bomb release authority. One must wonder what approval authority is required for artillery fire?

#5  One must wonder what approval authority is required for artillery fire?

Yes, there is required approval. Fortunately it hasn't had to go above in-theater, as it has in the past.

Britain
British pupils taught Syariah punishments
[Straits Times] PUPILS at Islamic schools across Britain are being taught how to chop off a criminal's hand and that Jews are conspiring to take over the world, A BBC investigation found on Monday.

Up to 5,000 pupils aged between six and 18 are being taught syariah law punishments using 'weekend-school' text-books which claim those who do not believe in Islam will be subjected to 'hellfire' in death.

A text book for 15-year-olds advises: 'For thieves their hands will be cut off for a first offence, and their foot for a subsequent offence.'

'The specified punishment of the thief is cutting off his right hand at the wrist. Then it is cauterised to prevent him from bleeding to death,' it added.

Young pupils are warned that the punishment for engaging in homosexual acts is death by stoning, burning with fire or throwing off a cliff and that the 'main goal' of the Jews is to 'have control over the world and its resources.'

The schools are part of the 'Saudi Students Clubs and Schools in the UK and Ireland' organisation. The BBC investigation claimed that one school in London is owned by the Saudi government.

Clinton endorses civilian trials for "vast majority" of terror detainees
(KUNA) -- Appearing on a round of Sunday talk shows, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as the Smartest Woman in the World and at other times as Mrs. Bill...
endorsed civilian trials, rather than military commissions, for "vast majority" of Guantanamo detainees.

"We do believe that what are called Article Three trials, in other words in our civilian courts, are appropriate for the vast majority of detainees," Clinton told Fox News' Chris Wallace.

This week, a civilian trial convicted Ahmed Ghailani, a 36-year old Tanzanian, on one count of conspiring to damage or destroy American property with an bomb in the 1998 US embassy bombing attacks that killed 224. He was acquitted of more than 280 other counts and faces 20 years to life in prison.

The cast thrust into the spotlight the difficulties of trying Guantanamo Bay inmates in civilian courts amid concerns that evidence against them is tainted or extracted under duress during secret CIV renditions.

Clinton asserted that civilian courts are more efficient compared to military commissions.

"If you look at the comparison between beturbanned goons who are now serving time in our maximum security prisons compared to what military commissions have been able to do, theres no comparison," She later said on NBC.

"We get convictions, we send people away in our civilian courts at a much more regularized and predictable way than yet weve been able to figure out how in the military commission," she added.

However,
The infamous However...
in the case of Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the self-confessed criminal mastermind behind the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Clinton deferred to the Attorney Generals recommendations on where he should be tried.

"I think that that is a cast that is a very difficult one because of all the security issues and the other problems. There will be a recommendation made by the Attorney General," Clinton said.

The B.O. regime is seeking to try Mohammed, and four alleged co-conspirators, in the same New York City court that charged Ghailani, but has faced strong bipartisan opposition from Congress. The issue hampers President Barack B.O. Obamas plans to close the controversial Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba, where 170 prisoners are being held.

So the military and CIA need to be very clear that they are not to bring any prisoners back with them.

India-Pakistan
No external hand involved in terrorism, says Malik
Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Sunday ruled out the involvement of external hand in terrorism in the country, saying the locals were supporting terrorism, especially the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain. LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. They are currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of al-Qaeda ...
(LeJ) in Bloody Karachi.
But... but... what happened to the Hidden Hand™?
"No external hand is involved in terrorism in Pakistain," Malik told news hounds at the Bloody Karachi Airport, adding that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP), al Qaeda and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) were all coordinating with each other and were trying to destabilise Pakistain. He expressed satisfaction over the current law and order situation in Bloody Karachi, saying there was no need to call in the army. He said the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) would investigate cases if the government received any complaint about corruption.
Wasn't RAW behind all the violence in Pakistain? Them and the Zionists, working hidden hand in glove?
Earlier, Malik held a meeting at the National Crisis Management Cell to review the issues of human trafficking, smuggling and the anti-corruption drive. The meeting was briefed on the investigation regarding the Crime Investigation Department centre blast. He said the Sindh Home Department could seek assistance from the Pakistain Rangers, the Frontier Constabulary and the federal intelligence agencies in this regard. He took serious notice of the deportation of 106 Paks, 54 from Punjab and the rest from Balochistan, at the Taftan checkpost and ordered the FIA officials to ensure the arrest of all fake agents.

Knesset set to pass J’lem-Golan land referendum bill
Legislation would require either referendum or supporting vote of 80 MKs [2/3] in event that Israel agreed to hand over areas under its sovereignty.
It's a start. What's really needed is requirement for a 2/3 majority for any "Peace" treaty with Amalek Arabs.

Jordan Islamists want 'govt of national unity'
[Arab News] Jordan's main opposition group, the Islamic Action Front (IAF), on Sunday urged the formation of a "national salvation government" to come to grips with the political and social problems facing the country.

"The formation of a national salvation government that enjoys the confidence of the people has become an urgent necessity," the IAF Executive Bureau, the party's highest decision making body, said in a statement.

"Such a government should open serious dialogue with all political and social forces in the country with a view to surmounting the impasse currently facing the country, otherwise the consequences will be more dangerous," it added.

The IAF had boycotted the Nov. 9 parliamentary elections, demanding political reforms, including a new election law that provides for proportional representation.

Media reports on Sunday suggested that King Abdallah was likely to ask Prime Minister Samir Rifai to form a new Cabinet after the elections that returned a majority of government loyalists in the lower house of Parliament.

The IAF Executive Bureau held the government responsible for a series of social violence that swept the country over the past few months, including post-polls rioting.

Meanwhile,
...back at the ranch...
calm was restored to the northwestern Jordanian town of Salt on Sunday after four days of rioting sparked by the shooting of an alleged traffic violator, police said.

Suleiman Khreisat remains at death's door after he sustained a gunshot wound to the head after he drove through a police roadblock on Wednesday, said police front man Lt. Col. Mohammed Al-Khatib.

He said a police major shot the man while chasing after the vehicle. The officer has been nabbed and is being investigated for "using excessive force with a civilian." Al-Khatib said the victim refused to stop at the roadblock.

"His vehicle had no license plates and broken front and back windows, which made it look suspicious," he said, adding that riots then erupted in the town. "Salt residents wanted to know who shot their townsman, demanding that police identify him so that they could take Dire Revenge™," Al-Khatib added.

Dozens of residents hurled stones at police, smashed police kiosks, street lights, a building that belongs to traffic police, as well as shop windows and cars, including police vehicles. "Several coppers and citizens were also maimed and have been hospitalized," Al-Khatib said.

He said police used tear gas to restore order. Al-Khatib said 34 rioters were also jugged and will face trial.

Abbas insists on Jerusalem in settlement freeze
[Dawn] The B.O. regime's troubled attempt to revive Mideast peace talks took another blow Sunday when the Paleostinian president rejected the latest US plan to get the sides talking again.

the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas said a proposed 90-day freeze on Israeli settlement construction wouldn't get him back to the negotiating table unless it includes east Jerusalem, a condition Israel staunchly opposes.

Paleostinians claim east Jerusalem for their future capital. For decades, Israel has built Jewish sections around the city's periphery, and about 200,000 Jews live there now. Paleostinians consider the large neighborhoods as illegal settlements.

The impasse highlights the gaps the US must bridge _ not to just to achieve a peace deal, but even to get the sides to sit down and talk about one.

In Cairo Sunday, Abbas said any construction freeze must include east Jerusalem "first and foremost," along with the West Bank.

"If the moratorium does not apply to all Paleostinian territories, including east Jerusalem, we will not accept it," Abbas said after consultations with geriatric President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt.

The issue of Israeli settlements has bedeviled the latest round of peace talks since their launch in September. They broke down three weeks later when a previous 10-month slowdown on West Bank construction expired.

Since then, the US has been pushing Israel to impose a new, 90-day moratorium to draw the Paleostinians back to talks. The US hopes the sides can reach a deal on future borders during that time, in effect determining which settlements Israel will get to keep in a peace agreement and defusing the issue of where it can build.

#1  Bibi gambled, and won.
Posted by: g(r)omgoru || 11/22/2010 1:23 Comments || Top||

#2  Yep, the Paleos tried to play their little trick one time too many. What is interesting, so far, is why the Paleos haven't tried on another Intefadah yet. I suspect that the previous one was such an utter flop, that the typical Paleo on the street has a FTS attitude towards a new one.

From the Israeli point of view, what Bibi is doing right now is working like a charm. But he has to remember that the clock is ticking, so he needs to push hard, but not too hard, to get as much done as possible before "things change", again.

The best bet is to take over as much of East Jerusalem as possible. Every Jew who moves into there means that much less possibility of it remaining as a bargaining chip. Once it is wholly owned, game over.

US launches giant eavesdropping satellite
THE United States has placed in orbit a vast reconnaissance satellite reputed to be the largest eavesdropping device ever launched into space.

The largest unmanned American launch vehicle, the Delta-4 Heavy rocket, roared into the the night sky in Cape Canaveral, Florida on Sunday carrying the mysterious satellite on a mission dubbed NROL-32.

The National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) did not disclose the purpose of the satellite but widespread reports in the US media suggest it is for eavesdropping on enemy communications.

"This second Delta IV Heavy launch for the NRO is the culmination of years of hard work and dedication by the combined NRO, Air Force, supplier and ULA team," said United Launch Alliance vice-president Jim Sponnick.

"ULA is pleased to support the NRO as it protects our nation's security and supports our warriors defending our nation around the world."

It was only the fourth time that the Delta-4 Heavy - the most powerful liquid-fueled rocket booster with a massive two million pounds of thrust - has flown.

The launch of the NROL-32 had been moved back from October 19 due to delays for undisclosed reasons.

Opposition Puts Forward Proposal Suggesting STL was Unconstitutionally Established
Leb's Opposition has reportedly put forward a proposal that suggests the International Tribunal was "unconstitutionally" established.

Ad-Diyar newspaper on Sunday, citing well-informed sources, said that among the ideas suggested was that Parliament would come out with a stance against the Special Tribunal for Leb "on the basis that the STL was not ratified by Parliament nor approved by the President."

It said another point under the proposal, which several Lebanese officials have been informed of, suggests withdrawal of the two Lebanese judges who are among the STL Appeals Chamber Panel.

The third point, according to the sources, is commitment by the various political sides to facilitate the task of Saad Hariri as prime minister.

Hizbullah Slams Ghajar Withdrawal as Israeli, UN 'Ploy'
[An Nahar] Head of Hizbullah's Loyalty to the Resistance
That'd be the Hezbullies, natch...
bloc MP Mohammed Raad on Sunday slammed Israeli plans to withdraw from the Lebanese border town of Ghajar as an Israeli and a U.N. "ploy."

"What the Israeli enemy is doing in collaboration with the United Nations, aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society and its Secretary-General is a maneuver and a ploy by both the enemy and its masters in the Security Council," Raad said during a memorial service in Iqlim al-Tuffah.

He said the ploy aimed to show that Israel, through a U.N. resolution, "had withdrawn completely from Lebanese territory."

"We believe this withdrawal is incomplete because it does not restore Leb's illusory sovereignty," Raad said, adding that the Resistance is committed to the full illusory sovereignty over the entire northern part of Ghajar as well as Kfar Shouba Hills and Shabaa Farms.

On the false witnesses' issue, Raad accused those who do not want to settle this problem of "crippling" the Government.

"The opposition did well when it put the false witnesses' issue as a first item on the agenda of any Cabinet meeting," he stressed.

Raad reiterated that Hizbullah will not allow anyone to distort the Resistance image.
