Tunisia security forces shoot dead protester
I'm not too sure why they'd want to shoot a dead protester. Usually they go for the live ones...
[Bangla Daily Star] A protester was rubbed out and several people injured in Tunisia after security forces opened fire during violent festivities.

The officers opened fire after coming under attack with Molotov cocktails thrown by the crowd, they said.

Several members of the security services suffered severe burns.

The demonstration in the central town of Menzel Bouzaiene took place in a region reportedly gripped by tensions over youth joblessness.

Agence La Belle France-Presse news agency quoted an unnamed interior ministry official as saying: "The groups involved in these acts of violence and trouble encircled and attacked a national guard post by throwing fire bombs and stones."

After attempting to disperse the crowd by firing warning shots, security forces opened fire in self defence, he added.

"This incident led to one death and two injured among the attackers. Several national guard agents suffered burns, including two who are in a coma," a government statement said.

A student representative, Mohamed Fadhel, said the man who died was 18-year-old Mohamed Ammari.

Mr Fadhel said the protesters had also set fire to police cars, a train engine, and the local headquarters of the governing Constitutional Democratic Rally party.

He said police had surrounded the town and were not letting people travel in or out, and that many arrests had been made.

Egypt building security towers along Gaza border
CAIRO - Egyptian security officials say the government is building several 100-foot (30-meter) observation towers to improve security along the border with the Gaza Strip, stopping infiltration and sniper attacks.
Funny, the Egyptians don't seem to be doing this along their border with the evil Joooz ...
The officials said Saturday the first of the steel and concrete towers near the Rafah border crossing is almost completed.

They said the towers aim to improve monitoring of movements along the border. A Gaza sniper killed an Egyptian security guard in January.
The Paleos never miss an opportunity to turn friends into enemies, do they ...
Egypt is uneasy about its 8-mile (14-kilometer) border with Hamas-ruled Gaza. It has installed an underground steel wall to combat smuggling tunnels, but infiltrators often cross.
Moat, alligators with frikin' lasers on their heads, death star, whatever it takes ...

The Somalia government disclosed it has signed an agreement with a private security company based in Beirut, Lebanon to train police and security forces.

In an exclusive interview with VOA Somali Service, Finance Minister Hussein Abdi Halane said the agreement was signed in late October between President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and Lafras Luitingh Chief Operations Officer for Saracen International. Luitingh is a former

According to the agreement, the training which the company is providing includes anti-terrorist training program to train the State's police and security forces in providing anti-terrorist protection services. The number of the force has not been disclosed.

Also other types of training in the agreement include training armed body guard, chauffeur and guard training program, as well as VIP protection, special event security, aviation and maritime security and mailroom security services training program.
Perhaps Saracen will employ 'die Koevoet' bounty system the 1978 brainchild of then Colonel Hans Dreyer (later a Major-General in the SAP) to develop and exploit intelligence and was based on the Portuguese Flechas and the Rhodesian Selous Scouts. Koevoet was based in Oshakati and suffered 153 killed in action and several hundred more wounded. They killed more than 3,681 SWAPO insurgentswhich resulted in a 1:25 or one to 25 kill ratio. Good pirate hunting Saracen!

Arabia
Saudi Islamic police told not to spy on people
[Emirates 24/7] Soddy Arabia's top scholar has urged the country's feared Islamic police not to spy on people and confine their operations only to outdoors.

Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al Sheikh, the Gulf Kingdom's Mufti (religious chief), said the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice should adopt easy ways in fighting evil and avert recurrent mistakes.

"I call on you to concentrate your work on changing bad practices outdoors...you should not spy on people indoors," he said in a lecture in Riyadh.

"You must do you job with tolerance and forgiveness...all people make mistakes but you should not make more mistakes than the other people," he said in the lecture, carried in Saudi newspapers on Saturday.

Sheikh's remarks followed growing public complaints about the Commission, the most influential Islamic law enforcement body in the Gulf Kingdom.

Caribbean-Latin America
Drug War Could Define Mexican Presidential Politics
by Chris Covert

Mexican national election for president are almost 18 months away now, yet political maneuvering of the three major national political parties, Partido Accion National (PAN), Partido Revolucion Institucional (PRI), and Partido Revolucionario Democratica, two have already set forth their national leadership, and the three major parties have started to define politics for the upcoming campaign.

With all the maneuvering taking place, events in the state of Michoacan threaten to define Mexican national politics and the issues even before the end of the presidential primaries.

President Felipe Calderon is suffering dissent outside as well as from within his own party, PAN. Already receiving criticism about how he is handling the war on drug cartels, an internal snub took place only weeks ago when Gustavo Madero Munoz, 55, was elected as PAN national president. Among the other two candidates running against Madero was Margarita Zavala, Calderon's wife of 17 years.

None of the contenders were strangers to Mexican politics. Zavala was federal deputy in the 59th Congress, and has been a high profile and active presence in Calderon's government, while Madero became senate president in 2008 after having served as senator since 2006, replacing Santiago Creel, a Calderon rival in the 2006 presidential primaries.

Creel, like Madero, is a member of the Creel-Terrazas family, one of Mexico's oldest and wealthiest families, and is apparently planning a run in 2012 for president.

PAN's archrival PRI is coming off of a very successful four year string of elections and strengthening their hold on state governments. Beatriz Parades is leaving her post as PRI president and ending her term with a stunning defeat of PAN in state elections this past summer. Parades has stated in the past her desire to run for president in 2012, but she is currently not a front runner in that contest.

Ruben Moreira, 44, is expected to walk in as PRI's new national leader. Moreira is a teacher by trade and is Coahuila's governor, a post which will be up for special election in January should he be confirmed as PRI president. The issue is expected to be resolved January, 2011.

Intense political problems have emerged for Calderon's presidency from his handling of the La Familia situation in Michoacan.

Jesus Ortega, president of the PRD, has charged the federal government with failing to use a congruent program of drug prosecutions in Michoacan as with other Mexican states.

"I have no doubt about it: I think the government is guilty of bias in its strategy for prosecuting crime in some states such as Tamaulipas, Durango, Sinaloa, Morelos, Nayarit or looks the other way," Ortega is quoted as saying in a recent Milenio article.

And Michoacan has been a nightmare so far for Calderon.

The complicating factor is the war of words between PRD held Michoacan based La Familia drug cartel and the Mexican federal government, which is threatening to turn into a bloody battle.

One of the very next acts of the federal government after La Familia announced they wanted the federal government to leave Michoacan alone so La Familia can conduct their business, was the early December raid by Mexican Federal agents which killed La Familia leader Nazario Moreno Gonzalez, alias El Chayo This was an unprecedented operation in scope and size, both geographically and in blood which killed five agents, spanned roughly 5,000 square kilometers and lasted 36 hours.

Because of that operation La Familia warned it is planning a guerrilla war against the federal government if federal security forces do not leave Michoacan. Michoacan is Calderon's home state. Even his sister, Maria Luisa, is planning to run for a minor state post in 2011. While a failure to take control of Michoacan may represent a failure for Calderon, it could also be seen as a failure of PAN. The Mexican drug war may help to explain the snub Calderon suffered at the hands of his own national party when Madero took the reins of PAN.

He just can't afford to be seen as weak.

But Michoacan also stands as a warning to Calderon's political rivals, PRI and PRD, especially in the PRD.

Carlos Jimenez Macias, spokesman for the PRI caucus in the senate has charged the Calderon administration of starting a smear capaign against PRD and the PRI. In remarks published in the Mexican daily Milenio, he said the federal campaign against the PRI and PRD has already begun.

Ortega's and Jiminez's remarks may seem to speak of PRD and PRI's fear that PAN will take political advantage of a potential political vacuum in Michoacan.

Two weeks ago, Julius Cesar Godoy, a member of the Mexican national legislature representing Michoacan was impeached for money laundering and for having ties with organized crime. His brother, Leonel Godoy, governor of Michaocan has made remarks to the national press attempting to distance himself from his brother. The large Policia Federal operation was begun at roughly the same time as the impeachment.

While Governor Godoy has been very clear there is no nexus between himself and La Familia, it is hard to imagine Godoy not being aware of his brother's relations with regard to La Familia.

Even so, the federal government is making a stand in Michoacan. Federal presence in Michoacan ends when crime rates come down. And the forces are deployed there to back up its intentions.

No...it's AP.
"Our eyes were full of fire right after we saw the enemy's shells being fired into our sacred waters," soldier Kim Moon Chol said, clinching his fists and standing shoulder-to-shoulder with three uniformed colleagues. Their ranks were unknown. "At the order of 'fire,' we poured our merciless thunderbolt of fire at the enemy," he said in a loud, oratory-style speech.
They killed people because of shots fired into the sea!?!
A soldier whose uniform was full of military decorations expressed his loyalty to Kim Jong Il. "Facing the enemy's provocation, we shouted, 'Let's dedicate our lives to fighting the enemy and giving them a merciless death for our dear leader and supreme military commander,'" Kim Kyong Su said.

Their speeches constantly drew applause from the audience -- mostly uniformed soldiers who spoke separately and vowed to get tougher with South Korea. They all later sang a military song together.

Norks to avoid military provocations until February: think tank
SEOUL, Dec. 23 (Yonhap) -- North Korea is likely to refrain from committing another military provocation until at least next February, when the United States is expected to show its "card" for the recalcitrant communist state, the chief of a Seoul-based think tank forecast Thursday.

Nam Sung-wook, director of the state-funded Institute for National Security Strategy, said at a unification forum in Seoul that the North is expected to hold off on carrying out further military provocations against the South until after the U.S. and China hold a summit meeting in mid-January.
Wouldn't do to upstage their Chinese benefactors ...
North Korea, which shelled South Korea's Yellow Sea border island of Yeonpyeong on Nov. 23 after the torpedoing of the warship Cheonan in March, blamed on the North, has repeatedly threatened to conduct further military and even nuclear attacks on the South.

"North Korea launched the latest provocation (on Yeonpyeong Island) after disclosing its uranium enrichment facilities. The moves may be intended to emphasize the urgency of a peace treaty," said Nam. "Through the successive provocations, the North may have successfully drawn international attention. But it may not commit further provocations until when the U.S. discloses its card at its summit with China slated for the middle of January."

He forecast that inter-Korean relations may enter into a new phase between March and April if the outlook for the resumption of the six-party talks on the North's denuclearization becomes brighter.
I forecast clear skies and a high of 80 degrees tomorrow in Chicago ...
"Another unpredictable factor is that the North may attempt to address its internal conflict by continuing to stimulate hostility towards the South," Nam said, referring to the ongoing power succession from North Korean leader Kim Jong-il to his third son, Kim Jong-un.
No kidding. All this has been all about clearing a path for Sonny-Boy ...
"Leader Kim has set up the system (for power succession). But it is not certain yet whether Kim Jong-un has the ability to manage the situation. If Jong-un fails to seize power within six months of his father's death, a Chinese-style collective leadership structure will emerge in the North," he said.

Kimmie, Sonny-Boy attend anniversary banquet
SEOUL, Dec. 25 (Yonhap) -- North Korean leader Kim Jong-il and his heir apparent Kim Jong-un attended a military banquet Friday, an unusual activity that observers in Seoul said was apparently aimed at promoting unity in the face of sharp military tensions with South Korea.

The military banquet was held to mark the 19th anniversary of leader Kim's inauguration as supreme commander of the country's military, the (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Pyongyang's official media, said Saturday.

Kim "warmly waved back to the enthusiastically cheering participants and heartily congratulated them for devoting themselves to the defense of the country and the prosperity of the socialist country, upholding the Songun revolutionary leadership of the party," the KCNA said.

North Korea experts here took note of their participation in the banquet and the news report on it. "Amid heightened military tension on the Korean Peninsula, it is very meaningful that Chairman Kim attended the banquet to show off the North Korean military's internal cohesion and his firm footing as commander-in-chief," said Kim Yong-hyun, professor at Dongguk University in Seoul, referring to Kim's official title, chairman of the National Defense Commission.

It also appears aimed at boosting loyalty among military officials to Kim and his son, he added.

EU Extends Visa Bans and Asset Freezes on N. Korea
The European Union has decided to renew and extend its list of people and entities in North Korea who are subject to restrictive measures.

One individual and six entities were added to the list due to their involvement with the North's nuclear arms program or other weapons-related activities. The measures include both a visa ban and an asset freeze. The list, which currently contains 18 individuals and 12 entities, was published in the EU Official Journal on Thursday.
Drop in the bucket, but okay ...
The EU says "the decision also limits financing activities and trade" with Pyongyang, particularly of arms and related materials that could be used in the development of weapons of mass destruction.

The two Swedish women who accuse Julian Assange of sex crimes are not pawns of the CIA but WikiLeaks supporters seeking justice for a violation of their "sexual integrity", their lawyer, Claes Borgstrom, has said.

"He [Mr Assange] has been spreading false rumours he knows are untrue," Mr Borgstrom said. Denying that the women were part of a smear campaign, he said: "They, too, are supporters of WikiLeaks."

Mr Assange denies allegations of sexual misconduct, which his lawyers say stem from a dispute over "consensual but unprotected sex". He is fighting extradition from Britain to Sweden.

The Grand Turk
Turkey wants to make peace with Israel
ANKARA - Turkey’s foreign minister on Saturday said the country wants improved ties with Israel but it must apologize and offer compensation for its deadly raid on a Gaza Strip-bound aid flotilla.
That's an interesting way to 'improve ties' ...
“We have the intention of making peace with Israel,” the state-run Anatolia news agency quoted Ahmet Davutoglu as saying during a meeting with a group of journalists in Istanbul. “We are for peace with all countries.”
As long as they do as you want ...
“Why should we want bad relations with a country with whom we are trying to broker peace,” Davutoglu said in reference to Turkey’s mediation between Israel and Syria in 2008, a role that won this NATO member international praise.

Relations between the two soured with Turkey’s Islamic-oriented government’s increasingly vociferous criticism of Israel’s treatment of Palestinians. They hit an all-time low in May, when Israeli naval commandos killed nine activists from Turkey on board a Gaza-bound ship that tried to breach Israel’s naval blockade.
Next time you want to 'improve ties', try not to provoke your friends ...
Israel wants Turkey to return its ambassador and remove the raid from the international agenda.

“Turkish citizens have been killed in international waters, nothing can cover up this truth,” Davutoglu said. “We want to both preserve relations and defend our rights. If our friendship with Israel is to continue, the way for it is to apologize and offer compensation.”
Those 'citizens' tried to kill Israelis. The Israeli government, as you may have heard, takes a dim view of that.
High-ranking Israeli and Turkish officials held two-days of talks in the Swiss capital, Geneva, aimed at mending ties after Turkey sent aircraft and firefighters to help Israel battle a wildfire earlier this month.

“We are having difficulties when it is not reciprocated,” Davutoglu said of the Turkish gesture.

Easy enough. Just stop sending terrorists to Israel on missions designed to provoke.

American Muslim indicted for wanting to join US military to kill soldiers
American Muslim indicted for wanting to join US military to kill soldiers. A US-born Muslim from Staten Island, New York, has just been indicted for lying to the FBI about his true intentions to join the US military and then start killing US soldiers. 21-year-old Abdel Hameed Shehadeh faces three terrorism-related charges that involve his plan to join the US military only so he could fight against US soldiers. According to the complaint, Shehadeh plotted to deploy with the US military to Iraq, but once there to desert the military and then fight alongside Islamic terrorists against the US. Shehadeh is also an operator of multiple, radical and violent Jihadist websites that promote terrorism against the west.

The indictments from a federal grand jury only came down late yesterday, and they relate mostly to Shehadeh’s lying about his terrorist motives. Nonetheless, this is yet another case of a US-born Muslim—who you think should be…you know…assimilated and all that—rejecting his American nationality and choosing instead violent, Jihadist terrorism. The US Islamic community is always said to be better assimilated than the Islamic communities in other countries, and this is certainly true in that you don’t see many, for instance, of the kinds of violent Muslim protests in the US.

#1  ... you don't see many, for instance, of the kinds of violent Muslim protests in the US.

I believe that has more to do with the 2nd Amendment than the 'authorities', this attests -
The state of Wisconsin has gone an entire deer hunting season without someone getting killed. That’s great. There were over 600,000 hunters.

Allow me to restate that number. Over the last two months, the eighth largest army in the world – more men under arms than Iran; more than France and Germany combined – deployed to the woods of a single American state to help keep the deer menace at bay.

But that pales in comparison to the 750,000 who are in the woods of Pennsylvania this week. Michigan’s 700,000 hunters have now returned home. Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia, and it is literally the case that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.

India-Pakistan
2010 most violent year in Karachi’s history
KARACHI — The year 2010 has been one of the most violent years in the history of Pakistan’s largest city Karachi, as it registered highest number of people killed since 1995, when 1,742 people lost their lives, according to a report compiled by the Citizens Police Liason Committee (CPLC).

The report stated that 1,247 people have been murdered in Karachi during 2010 as compared to 801 in 2009, more than an increase of 50 per cent. The month of August witnessed the bloodiest in 2010 with 162 people killed, while June saw the second highest murders of 135 and the increase in number of deaths is also attributed to target killings.

Besides the growing menace of target killings, in which majority of those murdered were political leaders, religious scholars, doctors and activists of almost all the parties including the city’s major stake holders, the MQM, the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Awami National Party (ANP) and MQM (Haqiqi).

The year also witnessed the growing trend in ethnic and sectarian killings in a city of well over 18 million people .

PA to deport 50 Hamas leaders from the West Bank?
Hamas claimed that the PA is threatening to boot 50 Hamas leaders from the West Bank. To where the Hamas leaders would be deported is not clear.
Maybe, just maybe, the evil Joooz could be persuaded to make room in a prison for them ...
PA security forces would not be able to do this without coordination with Israel.

A senior PA official in Ramallah told The Jerusalem Post that he was not aware of a decision to deport Hamas members. The official called the charges "lies and fabrications."

Over the past 24 hours, scores of Hamas agents were summoned to the PA General Intelligence Service headquarters in Ramallah, where they were reportedly told about the possibility that they may be kicked out of the West Bank.

Among those threatened with deportation are Sheikh Hussein Abu Kwaik, Aziz Kayed, Osama al-Hamad, Mohammed Hamdan, Khaled Ghaithan, Khalil Brafili, Ahmed Zeid, Yusef Kifaya, Khaldoun Barghouti and Ismail al-Wawi.

Abu Kwaik, a senior political figure in Hamas, said that he and his colleagues were forced to wait for hours at the headquarters before being notified that they might be deported.

He called the threat as "ridiculous" and said he filed a complaint with a top Fatah official.

"After a long wait, a security officer came out of the room and told us that we might be deported," Abu Kwaik said. "The officer told us that we would have to fill out special forms requiring each one of us to choose the country he prefers to be deported to."

Abu Kwaik said that he thought that the threat came in response to a Hamas announcement that it would demand that its detainees held in PA prisons be included in a prisoner swap with Israel in exchange for Gilad Schalit.

Sources with ties to Hamas said that the whole thing may have been a "joke" by one of the security officers in Ramallah. However, Hamas strongly denounced the threat and accused the PA of "endorsing Israeli policies and measures."

Ehab al-Ghissin, from Hamas' Ministry of Interior, said that the threat "was an indication that what happened to our grandfathers, who were deported from Palestine in 1948," could happen again. He said that Israel had deported to Lebanon many Hamas members in the early 90's.

"The Palestinian Authority is now endorsing Israel's criminal policy," al-Ghissin claimed. "The Palestinian Authority wants to help Israel Judaize Jerusalem and build settlements and deport more Palestinian leaders."

Ismail Radwan, a Hamas spokesman, advised that the Hamas "wouldn't have mercy" on Fatah security forces in the West Bank. To these forces, Radwan said, "You must return to the right path and reconsider your ways because neither the people nor the resistance would have mercy on you."

Aziz Dwaik, Hamas' most senior official in the West Bank, condemned the deportation threat against the Hamas members as an "assault on Islamic and national values and principles."

Dwaik added that he could not understand "how any Palestinian could threaten a Palestinian with deportation from his homeland." He also warned that such a move would see rival Palestinians "enter the phase of breaking the bones of each other."

Meanwhile, Fatah accused Hamas forces of arresting 10 top Fatah affiliates in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours.

A Fatah spokesman said that the arrests seemed to be directed at preventing the organization from celebrating the 46th anniversary of its creation. He identified the men "abducted" by Hamas as Ibrahim Tahrawi, Musa Hils, Tahseen Jabour, Yasser Juaidi, Imad Maslamani, Rami al-Sawisi, Saed al-Sawwaf, Ahmed al-Hawaiti, Amin al-Mughni and Imad al-Nadi.

Last weekend, Hamas also nabbed Fayez Abu Aitah, the Fatah spokesman in the Gaza Strip, who has been under house arrest since he returned to Gaza City earlier this year.

Abbas vows: No room for Israelis in Palestinian state
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas announced on Saturday that when a Palestinian state is established, it will have no Israelis in it.
Figured they wouldn't want any Jooo cooties ...
"We have frankly said, and always will say: If there is an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, we won't agree to the presence of one Israeli in it," Abbas told reporters in Ramallah.

He was commenting on unconfirmed reports suggesting that the PA leadership might agree to the presence of the IDF in the West Bank after the establishment of a Palestinian state.

"We are ready to have peace on the basis of international legitimacy and the road map, which we have accepted, as well as the Arab Peace Initiative," Abbas said. "But when a Palestinian state is established, it would have no Israeli presence in it."

The PA president criticized Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and accused him of placing obstacles on the road to peace.

"He who prefers settlements over peace is responsible for the obstacles to peace," he added. "If he really was interested in peace, he would have at least preferred peace to settlements."
If you really were interested in peace you wouldn't be trying so hard to kill all the Israelis and drive them into the sea ...
But that's how they have always defined peace. This whole getting-along-together nonsense is a non-Muslim definition never accepted by members of the Ummah, who define dhimmis as residents temporarily on sufferance until they convert or are killed.
Abbas accused the Israeli government of "deception" with the purpose of blaming the Palestinians for the current impasse in the peace talks. He also criticized the US administration for failing to put pressure on Israel to stop the construction in the settlements and east Jerusalem.

"The US administration has tried to stop the settlements, but Netanyahu refused," he said. "We know that there's a clear American position, but these days we don't hear it any more. We hope we will hear it in the future."
Good luck with getting a clear position out of Bambi ...
Abbas said that the PA has presented in writing to the US its position regarding all the core issues, but has still not heard Israel's reply.

"All the final-status issues must be solved according to international resolutions," he said. "All these issues will be resolved at the negotiating table, and this includes the issue of the refugees, which Israel tried to get rid of, but to no avail."
Israel will never agree to the 'right of return'. If that's on the table there is no deal.
Abbas expressed hope that his Fatah faction and Hamas would be able to resolve their differences so that the Gaza Strip would be part of the future Palestinian state.
Only if Hamas runs the whole show ...
He also voiced hope that he would be able to travel to the Gaza Strip in the near future.
... in which case your only travel will be to Paris in exile ...

#6  In July, 2009 in Aspen, Colorado, at the Aspen Institute’s Aspen Ideas Festival (as reported in the Aspen Daily News July 6, 2009), Palestinian National Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad when questioned by former CIA director James Woolsey, replied that Jews would enjoy freedom and civil rights in a future Palestinian state.

“In fact the kind of state that we want to have, that we aspire to have, is one that would definitely espouse high values of tolerance, co-existence, mutual respect and deference to all cultures, religions. No discrimination whatsoever, on any basis whatsoever."

In December 25, 2010 Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas announced that when a Palestinian state is established, it will have no Israelis in it.

"We have frankly said, and always will say: If there is an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, we won't agree to the presence of one Israeli in it," Abbas told reporters in Ramallah.

We see that all statements from the PA hierarchy are one big lie.

Hamas warns Israel after airstrikes
[Pak Daily Times] The Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, is observing a truce with Israel but is also ready for a resumption of hostilities, a front man for the group's armed wing warned on Saturday.

"There is a truce in effect in the field. It is real if Israel stops its aggression and ends it's siege. But if there is any Israeli aggression on the Gazoo Strip we will respond strongly," said a masked front man for Hamas' Al Qassam Brigades who identified himself as Abu Obeideh.

Speaking at a presser with three guards, who were all masked and armed, he said the group was ready to repel any future Israeli invasion and hinted at a secret weapon. "We are completely ready to answer any Israeli aggression," he said. "Our weapons are few compared to those of the Israeli occupation, but we have something that will worry the occupation," he said without giving details. Israel's military said this week that one of its tanks patrolling the Gazoo border had been hit by a Russian-made Kornet anti-tank rocket, the first time such a weapon had been encountered there.

However,
The infamous However...
Ahmed al Jabari, the head of the Al Qassam Brigades, had a much more bad turban message for Israel, saying Hamas would not rest until Israel was ousted from all Paleostinian lands and Israelis face two choices: "death or departing Paleostinian lands." "Our resistance will continue as long as the Zionists remain," said a letter signed by Jabari, published in a Hamas magazine.

Their comments come a day after a senior political leader of the group, Mahmud Zahar, also said Hamas was committed to the truce in effect since the January 2009 end of the 22-day Israeli offensive on the strip aimed at halting rocket fire by Paleostinian bad turbans. But it also comes amid rising tension along Israel's border with the tiny coastal enclave.

Overnight Saturday, Israeli warplanes hit four targets in the Gazoo Strip, wounding at least two people and knocking out power in a large swathe of the strip. One of the strikes in central Gazoo targeted a car as it was pulling up near a site used by Hamas' military wing. Two of the occupants were maimed and taken to hospital, medics said. Adham Abu Selmiya, a front man for the Hamas-run medical services said the two men were civilians. However,
The infamous However...
witnesses said they appeared to be bad turbans. The blast also damaged a nearby power station, knocking out electricity in much of the area.

The other three air raids hit smuggling tunnels along the border with Egypt without causing any casualties. The strikes came after gunnies fired a mortar and rocket into Israel on Friday, according to the army, which called the target a 'terror centre'.

A total of 23 mortars and four rockets have been launched at Israel from the Hamas-ruled Gazoo Strip since Sunday, the army said. One of the rockets struck near a kindergarten in a southern Israeli kibbutz, wounding a teenage girl. On December 18, Israeli warplanes hit central Gazoo, killing five gunnies as they were about to launch a rocket attack, according to the army and witnesses. While most of the rockets fired have been by other groups, Israel still says it holds Hamas, which rules the strip, responsible for maintaining calm there.

#2  The snarling poodles of the Mighty Paleos might wanna rethink that independent states of Gaza and West Bank. Israel is restrained only because they theoretically have control over both. If either becomes an independent state - their current terrorist provocations are an act of war, and international law, which so many are wont to speechify over in the name of the Paleos, allows a vicious smiting for that

Ecuador recognizes Paleostainian state
QUITO, Ecuador - The Ecuadorean government is the latest in Latin American to recognize Palestine as a sovereign state.
For all the good it will do ...
The Foreign Ministry says in a statement that President Rafael Correa officially recognized Palestine on Friday as “free and independent, with its borders since 1967.”
Not that the Paleos can actually do anything about the borders, then or now ...
It says he sent a message to that effect to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Ecuador joins all of Hugo's allies Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Cuba and Venezuela in supporting an independent Palestine with borders recognized prior to the 1967 Mideast war.

is insisting on sailing to Gaza. The ship is to leave from Syria on Sunday, and among the crew are several anarchists who participated in the May Gaza flotilla from Turkey. Israeli defense officials are taking precautions to ensure that the ship is unable to approach Gaza, and that it is turned back without incident.

Meanwhile, the Mavi Marmara, one of the ships from the May flotilla that has been in Israeli custody since it was disarmed, is set to return to Turkey Sunday. A mass celebration is planned in Istanbul when the ship comes into port; it will be greeted by thousands of people, and hundreds of small craft will accompany it into port.
