Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood filling pro-Western military's ranks with Islamists
Wait till they get their planes and tanks from the gun runners in the Pentagon and the jihadists will be able to look like real military.
Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated government recently allowed members of the Brotherhood and hardline jihadists to join Egypt's military academy for the first time as part of what U.S. officials say is a covert effort to impose Islamist rule in the key Middle East state.
What brilliant insight. Morsi's been doing this from about day one and the Washington Times just noticed?
According to U.S. officials with access to intelligence reports, the government of President Mohamed Morsi is covertly taking steps to take control over the pro-Western military and the police forces as part of a campaign to solidify Islamist control.

Egypt for decades had banned the Muslim Brotherhood and radical Islamist groups from both the military and police academies after Islamic terrorists in the military assassinated Egyptian leader Anwar Sadat in 1981.

The Egyptian military also for decades has maintained close ties to the U.S. military. Analysts in the U.S. intelligence community and the military are viewing the introduction of Islamists into the national military academy, disclosed last week, with concern.

Muslim Brotherhood members and hardline Salafi groups are regarded as dedicated first to jihad, or holy war, and other Islamist principles rather than to the country.

Egypt issues arrest warrant for TV satirist
[CHRON] Egypt's state prosecutors ordered the arrest Saturday of a popular television satirist for allegedly insulting Islam and the country's leader, in a move that government opponents say is aimed at silencing critics of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi.

The arrest warrant for against Bassem Youssef, who has come to be known as Egypt's Jon Stewart, followed an order earlier this week by the country's top prosecutor to arrest five prominent freedom fighters in what the opposition has characterized as a widening campaign against dissent.

Arabia
Saudi illegals in legal limbo
Title sez it all...
JEDDAH -- Down a narrow alleyway deep in the Jeddah slum of Karantina, three women from Sudan have set up stalls under colourful parasols, selling peanuts, hibiscus petals, dried pulses, baskets, frankincense, calabashes and sandalwood. They laugh and gossip in the sunshine, swathed in bright printed cloth, while a scrawny black cat picks its way between piles of rubbish. But when approached by a stranger, they are cautious.

Jeddah has attracted outsiders for centuries, being the main port of arrival for Muslims making the Haj pilgrimage to the holy city of Makkah. It is this history that gives Karantina its name: older residents can remember when it was "quarantine" for pilgrims.

But the people who now live in this slum in the south of Saudi Arabia's second biggest city were drawn also for the kingdom's wealth. They live in a legal limbo, sometimes for generations.

Bangladesh
Khaleda blasts govt at rally, asks all to get ready to oust it
[Bangla Daily Star] BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia
Three-term PM of Bangla, widow of deceased dictator Ziaur Rahman, head of the Bangla Nationalist Party, an apparent magnet for corruption ...
yesterday lambasted the government for "continuing genocide countrywide" and called upon the people to get prepared to dislodge it.

"You have noticed that the government committed genocide yesterday [Friday] in Chapainawabganj and Sirajganj. Even women erupted into the streets [in these areas] with brooms and sticks to resist this," Khaleda said while addressing a wayside rally at Chinair in Brahammanbaria Sadar upazila.

At least five people were killed in Chapainawabganj and Sirajganj on Friday in festivities between opposition activists and law enforcers over arresting Jamaat men.

The leader of the opposition in parliament said, "Time has come to say goodbye to this government. "Get prepared to oust it. And you [people] will have to make it happen not by your words but by your action."

Terming the government "shameless", Khaleda said it cannot see or hear anything. Had this government had the minimum of shame, it would have resigned long ago.

Earlier in the morning, the BNP chief left the capital to visit the tornado-hit areas in Brahmmanbaria. She saw for herself the massive devastation caused by the March 22 Tornado at Urshiara and Jarulota villages in Sadar upazila and sympathised with the affected people.

She also distributed money, cloths and rice among the tornado-hit.

At the wayside rally later, Khaleda alleged that the government has not stood by the affected people with adequate assistance and relief materials. "They [the government] distributed some relief before the camera only to show the people, instead of giving them [the affected] necessary help to recover from their losses in the tornado."

Ban Jamaat right away
[Bangla Daily Star] Three organizations that have long been campaigning for war crimes trial yesterday demanded an immediate ban on Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
and its student body Islami Chhatra Shibir
... the student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh...

Sector Commanders Forum, Sammilita Sangskritik Jote and Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee made the demand at a joint presser at the Liberation War Museum in the capital.

Describing Jamaat-Shibir as terrorist organizations, they also demanded the government file sedition cases against the "militant force that carries out aggression, atrocities and terrorism against the state".

Reading out a statement, Sector Commanders Forum acting secretary general Haroon Habib said local government bodies in many places were inactive when the religious fanatics launched attacks on the Hindus.

The government will have to ensure security for the minority communities and punish the attackers, he added.

The other demands of the three organizations include increase in the manpower for the war crimes tribunals, security for witnesses and their families, and permission for all pro-liberation organizations including Gonojagoron Mancha to hold programmes across the country.

Addressing the presser, Forum Chairman Air Vice Marshal (retd) AK Khandker urged people to unite in resistance to Jamaat-Shibir.

Replying to a question, Nirmul Committee acting president Shahriar Kabir said, "The time is not ripe yet for issuing any ultimatum to the government to ban Jamaat-Shibir. We are now just pressing our demand. But we can say that we will go to the next election after having Jamaat banned."

Referring to the April 6 long march called by Hefazate Islam, a Qawmi madrasa-based organization, he said if the government allowed the programme to go ahead, it would prove to be the "last nail on the coffin of our Liberation War".

Sangskritik Jote President Nasir Uddin Yousuff Bachchu said concerted efforts by the people and the government were a must to resist the fundamentalists.

China-Japan-Koreas
N. Korea threatens to shut joint industrial park with S. Korea
[Straits Times] North Korea on Saturday threatened to shut down a joint industrial complex with South Korea, state media said, in the latest warning from Pyongyang at a time of escalated tensions between the two sides.

The threat from the state body in charge of the complex just north of the Korean border followed an announcement by the North on Wednesday that it was cutting its last military hotline with the South.

"We will relentlessly close the industrial complex if South Korea tries to damage our dignity even a little," the body said in a statement carried by the North's official Korean Central News Agency.

"We warn that stern measures will be taken if (South Korea) continues to make reckless remarks defaming our dignity," it said, adding the fate of the complex depends "entirely" on the attitude of Seoul.

#1  From NHK World (Japan Broadcasting Corp)
North Korea has threatened to shut down the inter-Korean industrial complex in Kaesong, located in the southwestern part of the country.

The jointly-run industrial park is a symbol of cooperation between the 2 Koreas. Some 50,000 North Koreans work for South Korean firms operating in the complex.

Officials in Pyongyang said on Saturday that the country will close the industrial park without hesitation if South Korea undermines the North's dignity. The officials were apparently referring to the South's joint military drills currently taking place with the United States.

The North's cabinet bureau in charge of the Kaesong complex issued the warning via state-run media.

The media statement also said North Korea has maintained operations at the industrial complex out of consideration for South Korean firms and the fate of the complex hinges on the South's behavior.

The Kaesong complex is an important means for impoverished North Korea to earn foreign currency.
The industrial park has operated normally even after the North severed a military hotline with the South on Wednesday. The line was used for checking the entry of South Koreans to the special zone.

Observers say that the latest threat may be part of North Korea's tactics to rattle the South.

This is crazy. This operation earns badly needed foreign exchange for the NORKS. They are cutting their own throats. Mistake for SKor to ever get involved with the NORKS on this joint venture. They are too unstable.

North Korea Declares 'State of War' with Seoul
[An Nahar] North Korea on Saturday declared it had entered into a "state of war" with South Korea and warned Seoul and Washington that any provocation would swiftly escalate into an all-out nuclear conflict.
Once you push stupid to a certain point there's no further you can go.
The United States said it took the announcement "seriously," even though it followed a familiar pattern, while South Korea largely dismissed it as an old threat dressed in new clothing.

It was the latest in a string of dire-sounding pronouncements from Pyongyang that have been matched by tough warnings from Seoul and Washington, fueling international concern that the situation might spiral out of control.

"As of now, inter-Korea relations enter a state of war and all matters between the two Koreas will be handled according to wartime protocol," the North said in a government statement carried by the Korean Central News Agency.

"The long-standing situation of the Korean peninsula being neither at peace nor at war is finally over," the statement said, adding that any U.S. or South Korean provocation would trigger a "full-scale conflict and a nuclear war."

The two Koreas have technically remained at war for the past six decades because the 1950-53 Korean War concluded with an armistice rather than a peace treaty.

The North had announced earlier this month that it was ripping up the armistice and other bilateral peace pacts signed with Seoul in protest against South Korea-U.S. joint military exercises.

Voiding the ceasefire theoretically opened the way to a resumption of hostilities, although the armistice was approved by the U.N. General Assembly, and both the U.N. and South Korea repudiated the North's unilateral withdrawal.

#1  Again, by most accounts the DPRK per se can strike the ROK + Japan but it does N-O-T have the long-range Mil Assets, Nukulaar or Otherwise, to strike Guam + Hawaii let alone CONUS-NORAM - CHINA + PLA, HOWEVER, DOES.

IOW, the DPRK by itself cannot attack or hit Guam + Hawaii by itself. In any case, any DPRK-specific long-range Strategic Mil Assets - Conventional + Strategic-Tactical Nuclear - would be controlled by China, NOT THE DPRK. THE MAJOR COMMUNIST POWERS DO NOT ALLOW THEIR LESSOR SATELLITE OR VASSAL STATES TO HAVE OR CONTROL ANY WEAPONS OR MILSYS - THEIRS OR INDIGENOUS - THAT BE USED FOR STRATEGIC PURPOSES.

Which is the same as saying most or all of the DPRK Military is not DPRK-controlled.

CHINA = COLD WAR USSR/CPSU = ALLOWING THE DPRK [USSR = Warsaw Pact/post-1945 Commie Eastern Europe] CERTAIN OR SELECT "LOCAL AUTONOMY" =
N-O-T THE SAME AS GIVING THE DPRK "SOLE/
SOVEREIGN CONTROL". As the DPRK's existential guarantor, China does that to control the Political agendum + protect PLA Armies, not the DPRK, in a NucWar-possible environment agz the US-Allies.

The head of North Korea's Strategic Rocket Forces + Military is a CHINESE GENERAL, NOT A NORTH KOREAN GENERAL OR EVEN KIM JONG UN HIMSELF.

Norks: 'Time Has Come to Settle Accounts' with U.S.
North Korea claims its leader has put the military's rocket forces on standby to strike the United States. It is the latest threat from Pyongyang as tension continues to tighten on the Korean Peninsula.

South Korea's ministry of national defense says it cannot confirm a report of increased activity Friday among North Korea's mid-and-long range missile units. But it acknowledges intelligence officials of both South Korean and U.S. forces have increased monitoring of them. The semi-official Yonhap news agency in Seoul quotes a military source saying "sharply increased movements of vehicles and soldiers have been detected recently at North Korea's mid and long-range missile sites."

This follows an announcement from Pyongyang quoting leader Fat Boy Kim Jong Un that "the time has come to settle scores with the U.S. imperialists" and the country's missile units are now on standby.
The boy's mouth keeps writing checks that he can't cash...
An announcer on Pyongyang Central Broadcasting Station says the country's supreme leader in a midnight emergency meeting ratified a firepower strike plan against the U.S. mainland, American bases in the Pacific -- including Hawaii and Guam -- and U.S. bases in South Korea.

The broadcast announcement said North Korea would attack should the United States "bring in enormous strategic armed forces and cause a reckless provocation."

And whether pigs have wings."

Home Front: WoT
Somali seen as test case for terror suspects
Aboard the USS Boxer, somewhere in the Indian Ocean, Ahmed Abdulkadir Warsame was sitting across from a team of interrogators, talking and talking. In secure meeting rooms in Washington, senior officials in the Obama administration were wringing their hands over what to do with him.

Some in the administration desperately wanted to prosecute Warsame -- a key facilitator between al-Qaida franchises -- in federal court. To do that, though, they needed a "clean team" of FBI agents to come in and read the Somali his rights, perhaps jeopardizing his willingness to keep talking. The quandary was particularly acute because Warsame had intelligence on Anwar al-Awlaki, a U.S. citizen and a senior leader in al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula.

"There was a fair amount of debate because some of the intel guys didn't want to stop the interrogation," said a former administration official. "Others were getting antsy because they thought the longer you hold the guy and don't Mirandize him, the worse off you are" if prosecutors try him in federal court.

In late June 2011, after two months of interrogation, the president's national security advisers made the call. A team of FBI agents gave Warsame a Miranda warning, advising him of his right to remain silent and his right to counsel. "Then there was a kind of hold-your-breath moment," the former official said.

Warsame waived his rights and continued to talk.

Defense Sept: Purple Heart to Fort Hood survivors would hurt Hasan trial
Legislation that would award the injured from the 2009 Fort Hood shooting the Purple Heart would adversely affect the trial of Maj. Nidal Hasan by labeling the attack terrorism, according to a Defense Department document obtained by Fox News.

The document comes following calls from survivors and their families for the military honor, because they say Fort Hood was turned into a battlefield when Hasan opened fire during the November 2009 attack. Fox News is told that the DOD "position paper" is being circulated specifically in response to the proposed legislation.

The document reads in part:

"Passage of this legislation could directly and indirectly influence potential court-martial panel members, witnesses, or the chain of command, all of whom exercise a critical role under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). Defense counsel will argue that Major Hasan cannot receive a fair trial because a branch of government has indirectly declared that Major Hasan is a terrorist -- that he is criminally culpable."

A source with knowledge of the position paper told Fox News that DOD is putting on a full-court press by sending senior officials, including generals, to meet with lawmakers in an effort to block support.

But Neal Sher, counsel for the Fort Hood families involved in a federal lawsuit against the department, told Fox News that the document -- an "official Army response" to the request for Purple Heart status -- is "an utter outrage" and that it was not surprising given it comes from the same department which labeled the attack "workplace violence."

"This is a cynical travesty. What the government has done by making this statement is guarantee that anything done to help the victims will effectively prevent or impair Hasan's prosecution. There was no reason for the government to put this kind of a statement in writing, even if it were true (which it is not)," Sher said via email.

Sher represents families who are suing the Defense Department over the shooting which killed 13 and injured dozens at the Texas Army base in 2009.

Fox News was the first to report in 2011 that DOD was handling the attack, in which survivors say the shooter shouted "Allahu Akbar" as he opened fire -- in the context of workplace violence. Fox News was the first TV network, in June 2012, to interview the survivors.

The Defense Department document says that to expand the Purple Heart criteria to include "domestic criminal acts or domestic terror attacks would be a dramatic departure" from traditional criteria.

"The Army objects to (the proposal) because it would undermine the prosecution of Major Nidal Hasan by materially and directly compromising Major Hasan's ability to receive a fair trial. This provision will be viewed as setting the stage for a formal declaration that Major Hasan is a terrorist, on what is now the eve of trial. Such a situation, prior to trial, would fundamentally compromise the fairness and due process of the pending trial," the document said.

It continues: "Moreover, the effect of such an act by Congress would be to deprive the victims of these crimes the right to see justice done."

But Sher said the Army's legal arguments that such a situation prior to a trial would fundamentally compromise fairness and due process are especially troubling given the Holder Justice Department wanted to prosecute the self-described architect of 9/11 Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his four co-conspirators in a New York City federal court.

"Seriously? We could try KSM no problem, but helping out Hasan's victims creates due process problems?" Sher said.

Sher said the Fort Hood families he represents in the federal suit find it hurtful that DOD would now claim "such an unprecedented action would thwart the real and lasting measure that will bring closure to the grieving and harmed victims and families -- the trial itself."

While the document claims "the Government has vigilantly tended to the needs of the victims and families since the tragic events of November, 5 2009," Sher said the facts show the Army has failed to live up to its creed that no soldier will be left behind.
Typical government: it can never admit it was wrong. It was wrong with allowing Hasan to join the military, more wrong in letting Hasan stay in the Army, and very, very wrong to miss all the warning signs. It can't admit wrong because then they've had to do right, and try to make amends, and -- most of all -- ask who else they were wrong about.

And that will never do.

#2  Downsizing attempts are in full swing. The judge is considering giving him life if Hasan describe his the shooting rampage and massacre to the court as a plea bargain, per the Free Republic (link) a couple of weeks ago and plea unpremeditated murder. Sickest thing I ever heard. And all a lie. Being done as quietly as possible by the Hussein regime.

#4  Nidal Hasan's overseas e-mail pal, Al Qaeda's Anwar al-Awlaki might be able to sort all of this out....oh wait! Perhaps we should consult with the regime's usually reliable source, Ms. Susan Rice for the ground truth on the matter.

[Sarcasm off]

Declaring this event terrorism as opposed to local "workplace violence" opens a can of worms and has the potential to establish linkages to entities, activities, and responsible federal agencies. The death via drone of US Citizen and terrorist Anwar al-Awlaki terminated one potential end of the investigation. Short of a full confession from Nadal Hasan, a finding of "workplace violence" effectively terminates the other. Similar to recent events in Benghazi, there is undoubtedly much more to this story.

#5  Per Bigfoot's link, Nidal Hasan can no longer plead guilty to being a murdering terrorist. Quite interesting. Can we now assume that his own willful admission [of being a terrorist] along with any accompanying statements and testimony cannot be entered ?

How convenient.

#6  I read Bigfoot's link exactly the opposite. They are going to hang him and they don't want to leave any chance for appeals. Interesting that the national media is not covering it. Wonder why.

#8  They are going to hang him and they don't want to leave any chance for appeals.

The United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, composed of civilian appointees, hasn't permitted an execution since 1961. The only way he's going to die beyond natural causes, is to have an 'accident' in the exercise yard at the Disciplinary Barracks. What are they going to do to an inmate already serving life who gets more 'coup' among those already in the population who are there for killing people just like Hasan.

#9  At this stage this is just the preliminaries - HASAN is officially a US Army Officer + will be treated as such per the UCMJ until its proven by the prosecution that he is a "terrorist".

IIUC, to be deemed a "terrorist" Hasan as a commissioned officer must reveal to the JAG Prosecutor-General under Oath + Honor any + all terror-related personal links + sources. IFF HE FAILS TO DO SO, HIS ALTERNATE DEFENSE MAY BE ONLY "GUILT BY INSANITY" where he will be deemed a Lone Manic-Psycho, NOT a "terrorist"???

Iraq
Iraq President Improving, Now Able to Speak
[An Nahar] Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, who is being treated in Germany after suffering a stroke, is now able to speak and is able to recognize those around him, his doctor said on Saturday.

"The president's health is improving, and he is responding well to treatment," Najm al-Din Karim, who is also the governor of Iraq's northern province of Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
told Agence La Belle France Presse.

"He is speaking, reading, eating and undergoing physiotherapy," Karim said, adding that Talabani's memory was recovering and he was able to identify those around him.

"The German medical team is optimistic his health will continue to improve. His return to Iraq depends on the decision of the medical team in Berlin."

Talabani, 79, traveled to Germany in December after suffering a stroke, the latest in a series of health problems he has suffered in recent years.

Iraq to Up Searches of Iran Overflights to Syria
[An Nahar] Iraq said on Saturday it will step up searches of Iranian flights via its airspace to Syria, days after U.S. Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
publicly criticized Storied Baghdad
...located along the Tigris River, founded in the 8th century, home of the Abbasid Caliphate...
for turning a blind eye to them.

But while Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's front man spoke of newly tightened restrictions on Iranian flights to Syria, the head of Iraq's civil aviation authority acknowledged that no planes had been searched since October.

"Because of a lot of information which referred to transportation of weapons, we have increased the activity of inspections," Maliki's front man Ali Mussawi told Agence La Belle France Presse.

"We will carry out more random searches, to be assured that there is no weapons transfer."

#1  On a separate note, IMO iff the US was truly worried about these Iran overflights, it would be there back in Iraq already checking + double-checking these planes itself.

just sayin'.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Gaza's Haniya Heads to Egypt Talks
[An Nahar] Gazoo's Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, prime minister Ismail Haniya headed to Cairo on Saturday to discuss his Islamist movement's complaints about Israeli compliance with an Egyptian-brokered truce.

Hamas front man Taher al-Nunu said Haniya would be discussing "Israeli violations of the truce," which ended eight days of deadly violence in and around the Gazoo Strip last November.

Last week, Hamas complained to Egypt that Israel was not keeping its end of the bargain.

Nunu said that the Gazoo premier would be discussing "the problem of (Paleostinian) prisoners (held by Israel) and Hamas-Egypt relations."

Ties between Hamas and Cairo have been tense after Egyptian forces closed down dozens of smuggling tunnels on the Gazoo border.

Haniya all also seek to "clear the air" after Egyptian allegations of Hamas involvement in a deadly attack on Egyptian soldiers in the Sinai Peninsula last year, Hamas sources said.

Reconciliation efforts between Hamas and the Fatah faction of Paleostinian president the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
are also expected to be on the agenda.

Iran Said Advancing 'At Murderous Pace,' Could Have Bomb By July
[IsraelTimes] Iran could have the capability to build a nuclear bomb by July, unnamed security sources said in a report published Friday.

The sources added that Israel's leadership had been mollified by US President Barack Obama
I've now been in 57 states -- I think one left to go...
's visit earlier this month, which saw Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seemingly cotton to Washington's later timeline on when Iran could have a nuclear bomb.

The security sources, said to be close to Netanyahu's talks with Obama, claimed that after seeing North Korea wield nuclear weapons despite heavy Western opposition, Tehran's leadership had also decided to break out toward the bomb, which could be ready between July and September.

"The Iranians aren't messing around after North Korea. What Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the hereditary potentate of North Korea...
has Ahmadinejad has," a source told the Israeli daily Maariv, referring to North Korea's and Iran's respective leaders. "At the end of 2012 the Iranians carried out a simulation of a nuclear kaboom and since then have been advancing at a murderous pace every day."

Last year, Netanyahu told the UN General Assembly that Iran could have the bomb by spring 2013, but Israeli officials have revised the assessment several times to later dates. Obama, who visited Israel last week to discuss cooperation on Iran, among other things, seemed to convince Netanyahu to go along with the US timeline, which holds that Iran is still a year away and has not yet decided to race full-speed to a nuclear weapon.

However,
a woman is only as old as she admits...
the sources said Obama's charm offensive had managed to "buy" Netanyahu -- and Israel ended up losing out, with Jerusalem's hands now tied on Iran.

"The president threw sand in our eyes and now we are reaping the storm," one source said. "They bought us with flattery and displays of friendship, but managed to evade any responsibility for a strike."

While Israel has pushed for a military option against Tehran's nuclear program, the US has maintained that time remains for diplomacy and sanctions to end the standoff. Netanyahu's statements during Obama's visit seemed to indicate Israel would not act without US backing, which many analysts say would be necessary for an effective attack.

Iran claims its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, but several rounds of talks over allowing in inspectors or curbing enrichment have yielded few results.

#3  I suppos national + Shia pride is involved, but besides that Iran's BFF Pakistan is already Nuke-armed, + there is still mucho extant uncertainty over whether Iran bought Nukes on the Black Market(s0 after the collapse of the USSR, + how many andor what type. VARIOUS PERTS, NETTERS INSIST THAT IRAN PER SE IS ALREADY NUKE-ARMED.

The prob is high that any Persian Gulf/ME conflict between the US, etal. + Iran [includ Syria?] will correspondingly occur wid a a mil conflict in East Asia e.g. Sino-Japanese islands dispute, China-vs-ASEAN in SCS, + now DPRK = China again? WILL THE DEBT, SEQUESTER-RIDDEN US = OBAMA ADMIN + USDOD BE CAPABLE OF FIGHTING A MULTI-FRONT WAR WHERE THERE IS RISK OF NUCLEAR CONFRONTATION + COMBAT???

Lest we fergit, MSM-NET > CHINA = would like to see US power-n-influence contained or isolated to EASTPAC [West Coast + Hawaii] come Year 2020 or ASAP AMAP after.

Presum that no side desires to wage a full-scale Mutually Destructive Strategic NucWar, IMO the only way for CHINA to achieve the above is for the [Debt,Sequester-ridden] US to either be militarily defeated by Same + Aligned? in a major East Asian mil conflict, Conventional-forces only or ala Limited Nuclear/TacNuke; or for the US to make unilateral concessions to China for the sake of peace + mutual State continuity. CHINA OF COURSE CAN UNILATER AMEND OR DELAY ITS "POST-US", "FUTURE "WORLD #1", "MANIFEST DESTINY", BUT WORLD HISTORY SUGGESTS THAT IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY AS NEW OR RESURGENT STATES DESIRE TO ACHIEVE THEIR MILPOL = GEOPOL AGENDUM ASAP.

The 'liberated' Syrian city of Raqqa avoids chaos, gains visitors
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] After declaring that the northern city of Raqqa was "liberated" and taken from the Syrian regime's control, opposition fighters said they have been successful in keeping chaos at bay, by deploying heavily in the city, while looking to bring in new visitors.

"The opposition has succeeded in avoiding any chaos and protected all government institutions and private properties, but it still needs to succeed in establishing a civilian authority," reported Al Arabiya's correspondent, currently in the city.

The fighters have control over all the roads leading into Raqqa, which is located 160 kilometers from the city of Aleppo that still sees raging battles between rebels and the Syrian regime forces.

Shifting power from military fighters to civilians is an ongoing process, according to Mohamad Nabil Fawaz, the head of the local council in Raqqa.

"This is subject to consultations with all the military groups that played a role in liberating the city, and we are working on normalizing the security situation as well as the services," Fawaz said.

Visitors looking to enter Raqqa city are strip searched, an attempt the opposition forces say is to foil any efforts by the embattled Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Despoiler of Deraa...
's to infiltrate and regain control of the city.

In March, Syrian opposition forces brought down the statue of the late President, Hafez al-Assad.

"There is a far more sense of freedom in the city after the downing of Assad statute," Al Arabiya's, Joumaa Accache, said.

While some areas are still deserted, in certain residential areas and markets, citizens started to rebuild the city.

The opposition estimates that more than half of Raqqa residents and those who migrated to it before it was seized have fled, amounting to more than a million.

Clashes between opposition fighters and the regime forces, however, continue to reoccur as Assad regime forces are still present in three military locations in Raqqa governorate.
