Afghanistan
U.S. General Says Afghan Troops Being Killed in Unprecedented Numbers
[AnNahar] Afghan troops are dying on the battlefield in unprecedented numbers after having taken over from NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
-led forces, and the corpse count is "not sustainable," a top U.S. commander in Afghanistan said Wednesday.

Afghan army and police have suffered a 6.5 percent spike in casualties this year, with 4,634 killed in combat in 2014, compared to 4,350 killed for all of 2013, said Lieutenant General Joseph Anderson, the number two ranking U.S. officer in Afghanistan.

Afghan forces are being outfitted with more protective gear and adopting more effective tactics to counter roadside kabooms planted by Taliban bully boys, "but they do need to decrease their casualty rate," Anderson told news hounds via video link from Kabul.

The Kabul government's forces had improved their emergency medical care for maimed soldiers but there was more work to be done as the current casualty rate was untenable, he said.

"All those things have to continue to improve to reduce those numbers, because those numbers are not sustainable in the long term," he said.

The general, head of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) joint command, added that the casualty numbers had been expected to rise with Afghan forces now fully in charge of security and NATO combat forces rapidly scaling back.

"We expected that (corpse count) actually to be much higher based on the role they've played and where they've been," Anderson said.

Despite the mounting casualties, Anderson said "the Afghan national security forces are winning, and this is a hugely capable fighting force who have been holding their ground against the enemy."

The Afghans have struggled to build up emergency medical care for soldiers maimed on the battlefield after having relied on NATO aircraft for evacuations.

Until last year, the number of Afghans who survived their combat wounds was less than 50 percent, a dismal rate comparable to what American soldiers faced 150 years ago in the US Civil War, according to military officials.

With nearly 9,000 Afghan soldiers killed in less than two years, the numbers far exceed the corpse count for American troops in both Afghanistan and Iraq over the past decade. More than 4,400 Americans were killed in Iraq between 2003 to 2011 and more than 2,000 in Afghanistan since 2001.

There are 38,000 troops in NATO's U.S.-led force in Afghanistan and by the end of the year the number is due to drop to 12,500 troops, including 9,800 Americans.

El Sharara oilfield shut after armed group seizure
Libya's major El Sharara oilfield has ceased production after being seized by an armed group, oil ministry sources said on Wednesday, Reuters reported.

An oil worker at the large southern field said there was shooting, but no further details were available. Hours after the initital attack, workers were still trapped inside company buildings. "We cannot leave," the worker said, asking not to be named. "There is shooting."

The field produced at least 200,000 barrels per day before the shutdown, the sources said.

The area near the field, which is deep in Libya's lawless south, has been the scene of fighting between members of the Tuareg and Tibu, two minorities who have complained about neglect and discrimination in the North African country.

Protesters have closed the field twice in the past 12 months to press authorities into accepting their financial and political demands. Tuarag protesters closed the field in October, demanding a bigger local council representation and national identity cards needed to get full rights and state benefits.

The government had twice renegotiated the reopening of the field but state authority has eroded since summer when an armed group seized the capital, forcing the internationally recognised Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thinni to move to the east.

Arabia
Terrorist attempt to 'destabilize, divide' the Kingdom denounced
[ARABNEWS] Saudi Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh has slammed the turbans who bumped off seven people this week, for trying to destabilize and divide the country.

"What happened in Al-Ahsa is an example of brutal aggression and a great injustice. This is carried out by sick minds seeking to incite fitna between people, God forbid," he said.

He said these acts were being carried out by those who want "to open the door to sectarian conflict so that we kill and destroy each other," he warned in a televised speech on Tuesday.

"We live in one state, secure and stable under a single government that brings us together," the grand mufti said. He called on the government to punish those responsible in the harshest possible manner.

GCC Secretary-General Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani said: "The attack violates the basic principles of Islam. It was aimed at causing division and sedition. However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
the turbans will not succeed in achieving their nefarious objectives."

Police found the body of one of the attackers in Buraidah on Wednesday. It was not clear who killed him. This means that three turbans have bit the dust. The other two were killed in a shootout in Shaqra on Tuesday.

Meanwhile,
...back at the palazzo, Count Guido had been cornered by the banditti...
thousands of people attended the funeral prayers Wednesday of two security officers killed in the shootout with the terrorists.

Prayers for Capt. Muhammad Al-Enezi and Cpl. Turki Al-Rasheed were held in Hail and in Buraidah. They were slain during a raid on a terrorist hideout in Mahlmin district in north Hail on Tuesday.

The two officers were members of the Qassim Emergency Force that conducted the raid in connection with Monday's shootout in Al-Ahsa, which saw masked gunnies kill seven people.

Hmmm... Hands do not appear to be doing what lips are saying...
Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz issued a royal decree on Wednesday, removing Minister Abdul Aziz Khoja from his post and appointing Pilgrimage Affairs Minister Bandar Haggar as acting minister.

The move came hours after the minister announced on a social media website the closure of the Wesal television channel's office in Riyadh, and an end to its broadcasts.

"I gave orders to shut down the office of Wesal in Riyadh and to ban any broadcasting of the channel from Saudi Arabia," Khoja posted on his Twitter account.

The former minister did not specify the reasons for banning the TV channel, but said the ministry would not hesitate to take action against any media that attempts to undermine the "nation's unity, security and stability."

Wesal has reportedly aired programs and messages hostile to Shia Moslems. Saudi Arabia's Shia community has long complained about discrimination.

US 'orders' Saleh to leave Yemen
[Iran Press TV] The United States has "ordered" President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...
, the ousted Yemeni dictator, to leave the Arab country by Friday or face UN sanctions, a report says.

According to The News Agency that Dare Not be Named, Saleh's General People's Congress political party said in a statement issued on Wednesday that Matthew H. Tueller, the US ambassador to Yemen, told its officials that the former ruler had to leave Yemen before 5:00 p.m. Friday, otherwise "sanctions will be imposed against him".

"This is a blatant intervention in Yemen's internal affairs," the party said. "It's rejected and unacceptable."

Saleh, who ruled Yemen for 33 years, also angrily dismissed the alleged US demand. "The man has not been created or given birth by his mother yet to tell Ali Abdullah Saleh to leave his country," Saleh wrote on his Facebook page.

The Grand Turk
Turkish soccer player attacked for being ethnically Kurdish
A Turkish-German footballer targeted in an allegedly racist attack has left his club and flown out of Turkey. Striker Deniz Naki, who plays for Turkish Super League club Genclerbirligi, was attacked in Ankara on Sunday and got a black eye as well a minor injury to a hand.
Did he roll on the ground and grab his shin?
He had recently expressed support on social media for the Kurds defending the strategic Syrian border town of Kobane from Islamic State (IS) attack and posted comments and pictures criticising IS militants.

Naki told the BBC he was attacked by three men while out buying food. Once they recognised who he was, he said they they started insulting him for being of Alevi-Kurdish origin - a religious and ethnic minority in Turkey. Turkey has an Alevi population of up to 15 million, including both ethnic Kurds and Turks.

"They were swearing and asking: 'Are you that dirty Kurd? Are you Deniz Naki?'" he said. "Then they said: 'Damn your Kobane, damn your Sinjar'. I tried to calm them down. But suddenly one of them punched me in the eye. Trying to defend myself, I punched one of them back and started running away.

"As I was running I heard them shout: 'Was the first warning not enough? This is your second and last warning. Leave this country, leave this city, leave this football club!'"

He boarded a flight back to Germany on Tuesday night.

Asked about his future plans, the 25-year-old told the BBC he had no intention of returning.

"There is no tolerance. I would only go back because I love my country, I love my hometown. That's it. I will carry on with my career in Germany."

Great White North
American Marine Threatened for Guarding Canadian War Memorial
Retired Marine Maj. "Fox" Sinke says he has received threatening phone calls from Arabic speakers since he stood guard at Canada's National War Memorial last week.

But as he told police: "If they're looking for a fight, they came to the right guy."

Sinke said he received at least two phone calls on Tuesday from people who screamed at him in Arabic and then hung up.

"The only words I recognized were 'kill you,' because I've heard them before," he said.

When Sinke told police about the phone calls, he added, "I promise you this: If they come here, they'll die here."

Sinke is a decorated veteran who did tours in Vietnam and received five Purple Hearts. When Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, a Canadian service member, was shot and killed last month while guarding Canada's war memorial, Sinke felt obligated to honor the fallen hero.

"The murder of the young Cpl. Cirillo was so despicable and craven that I just couldn't find it within myself to do nothing," said Sinke, a dual Canadian-American citizen.

So Sinke, who lives in Canada, donned his Marine uniform and sword and went to the memorial to stand guard on Friday. He told local media that he came to pay tribute to fallen comrade in arms and he wanted to show that Canadians will not be intimidated.

He also had a message for would-be terrorists: "I said, 'Hey, you're looking for a target, here's a new one for you; give it your best shot; we'll see how it works out for you.' "

Sinke arrived at the memorial at 6:30 a.m. and guarded the memorial alone until 9 a.m., when the Canadian honor guard and eight Canadian police officers armed with fully automatic weapons showed up, he said.

After the video story aired, questions were raised about whether Sinke really served in the Marine Corps. Those who run the Guardian of Valor website, which vets claims about people's military service, posted a news release with Sinke's service records.

"...We did some digging and reached out to our contacts to find out more about Major Sinke, and we can tell you that not only did this man serve as a Marine, he was a highly decorated Marine!" the release states. "He is taking a stand for what he believes is right, and yes he has five Purple Hearts."

The Canadian troops were glad to see the Marine at the war memorial and allowed him to guard the northern side of the monument for the day, but the senior police officer was initially perturbed, telling Sinke he should not have been there by himself.

"He says, 'God man, you got more balls than brains don't you?' " Sinke said. "So I said, 'Well actually, sir, I was kind of hoping that one of those scum-of-the-earth radicals would show up and take me on because, to tell you the truth, I have always dreamed of being able to confront an evil-doer and run him through with this damn sword.' So he kind of liked that, you know."

#5  In all seriousness, guys/gals, I see this kind of blowback coming more and more frequently, especially as long as ISIS continues with its attrocities, and things like the burning of the Christian couple in Pakistan make world news. No one wants to put up with things like that, and no one wants it in THEIR country. The only way to stop it, unfortunately, is to ensure that EVERY muslim, regardless of who or where from, knows they'll be beaten into the Earth and crushed unmercifully if they try it here (wherever "here" is).

US Navy Intel Chief Banned From Classified Material Since 2013
File under What Are Those Idiots Thinking?!
[IsraelTimes] The US navy's head of intelligence has for more than a year been banned from viewing any classified information due to an investigation into his possible misconduct, the Navy Times reported on Monday.

Vice Adm. Ted Branch cannot attend meetings where secret information is discussed and any such material must be cleared away from the desks of subordinates before he walks into their offices. He is also not able to join other intelligence top brass when they meet with Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.

According to the report, if Branch, 57, is at a meeting where classified information is brought up, he must leave the room.

The navy suspended Branch's security clearance in November 2013 over his connection to Glenn Defense Marine Asia, a company that provides services for the fleets ships in ports, and that is at the heart of a suspected large-scale bribery scandal. Rear Adm. Bruce Loveless, the director of intelligence operations, was also stripped of his classified authorization for the same reason while the Justice Department investigates the affair.

However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
in the year since the two men were downgraded, the investigation has not progressed, leaving them in limbo. In the meantime, Branch, a former F-18 pilot, focuses on workforce management as well as a navy cyber-security project.

GDMA CEO Leonard Glenn Francis is accused of bribing Navy officers to bring their ships to ports where he could allegedly overcharge for services. Bribes offered reportedly included junkets, hookers, and tickets to shows. Francis hoped to also obtain information about ship movements and schedules, which is classified.

Navy authorities have stressed that neither Branch nor Loveless are suspected of leaking classified information. According to the New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
, they are suspected of accepting gifts that my have made them targets for blackmail.

India-Pakistan
Call against persecution of minorities
[Pak Daily Times] The human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
defenders under the auspices Centre for Human Rights Education (CHRE) and Civil Society Network on Wednesday protested in front of the Lahore Press Club against the killing of the Christian husband and wife after they were accused of blasphemy in Kasur District.

They expressed anger and grief over the incident and rolled their eyes, jumped up and down, and hollered poorly rhymed slogans real loud against the brutal killing of the couple in the name of religion. They demanded that all the culprits involved in this inhumane act should be apprehended and brought to justice.

"This barbaric incident has raised a sense of insecurity among the religious minorities of the country who have continuously been persecuted under the blasphemy law, which has been misused frequently," Civil Society Network President Abdullah Malik said.

He demanded that the judiciary should take suo motu

notice of this incident and make sure that the perpetrators are punished according to the law.

"This is yet another painful story where the human life has been badly degraded in the name of religion," CHRE Director Samson Salamat said.

"We have been continuously highlighting the fact that the misuse of blasphemy law has been evident in dozens of cases, however, our successive governments, politicianship and the state institutions have not been able to formulate any policy or strategy to control the damage and save the lives of the people, especially of the persons belonging to religious minorities," he added.

Civil society, political parties protest lynching of Christian couple
[Pak Daily Times] Rights groups, civil society organizations (CSOs) and political parties held protest demonstrations in front of the Lahore Press Club on Wednesday to condemn the lynching of a Christian couple in a Kasur District village allegedly over blasphemy.
Yeah, yeah. Whoopdy doo. They always do that. Nothing ever happens.
The Voice of Christians International (VOCI) held the main demonstration where protesters and family members carried the coffin containing remains of the burnt Christian couple Shehzad Masih and Shama, who were burnt alive by a mob allegedly for blasphemy on Tuesday. The protesters demanded of the government to immediately arrest the culprits and to prevent the persecution of religious minorities in the country.

VOCI Director Samuel Payara led the demonstration while other representatives, including Sheraz Bhatti, Adil Raja, Samuel Rahat Gill, Shamoun Sohan, Shaukat Ashiq, Sadiq Wahab, Denial James, Shakeel Jahangir and Shafiq Sadiq, were also present there.

Besides carrying placards and banners, the protesters carried the black coffin containing the remains, including bones and hair, of the parents of three children. They rolled their eyes, jumped up and down, and hollered poorly rhymed slogans real loud, demanding repeal of the blasphemy laws that, according to them, were being "unfairly" used against religious minorities in the country. They also announced that they would not offer funeral of the victims and bury the casket until upcoming Sunday (November 9) when they would observe a "black day" and take out a rally from the Lahore Press Club to the Punjab Assembly chamber on The Mall to protest the brutal killing of the couple. They said that activists of political, religious and CSOs would attend the scheduled rally.

TTP-JA warns attacks against India 'in the pipeline'
[Pak Daily Times] A new Pak Taliban group behind this week's devastating suicide kaboom on the Pak-Indian border said on Wednesday the attack was as much aimed at India as Pakistain, suggesting that Indian targets might be next. At least 57 people were killed during the flag-lowering ceremony on Sunday when a bomber tried to get as close as possible to the border in a possible attempt to cause casualties on the Indian side as well. Ehsanullah Ehsan
...formerly the front man for the Pak Taliban, now the lips and tongue of the Jamaatul Ahrar splinter group in Mohmand Agency...
, a prominent murderous Moslem and front man for the group, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain Jamaat Ahrar (TTP-JA), said he had warned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that attacks in India were in the pipeline. "I have already conveyed it to Modi ... that if our jacket wallahs can carry out attacks on this side of the border, they can easily do it on other side of the border in India," he told Rooters by telephone from some holy man's guesthouse an undisclosed location.

"I told him that his hands are red with the blood of Kashmiri mujahideen (fighters) and innocent people of Gujarat
...where rioting seems to be a traditional passtime...
for which he would have to pay the price." He earlier tweeted in English: "You (Modi) are the killer of hundreds of Moslems. We wl (will) take the Dire Revenge of innocent people of Kashmire and Gugrat" (sic). An Indian intelligence official said the account appeared genuine. Gujarat - misspelt in the tweet - is a western Indian state where more than 1,000 people, most of them Moslems, were killed in inter-religious rioting in 2002, when Modi was its chief minister. India has long accused Pak gunnies of trying to attack its targets, particularly after the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

#1  India has 1.1 billion people. Pakistain has fewer than 200 million. Both countries have some serious problems, but the problems in Pakistain go all the way to the core, and are unsolvable. Pakistain has lost every war it's ever fought against India. India's Modi won't stop if another war starts -- he'll squeeze the last Pakistaini up against the Iranian border and shoot him. Stupidity is a terminal illness.

Ban demanded on forced conversion, under-age marriage
[Pak Daily Times] The Pakistain Dalit Solidarity Network (PDSN) and Pakistain Institute of Labour Education and Research (PILER) on Wednesday condemned the abduction, forced conversion and then marriage of a Hindu girl.

The girl, Anjali Meghwar, had been kidnapped, forcibly converted and then married to one of his kidnappers in Ghotki district on October 30.

The 12-year-old was kidnapped from her parents' home at Mohalla Maswahan in Daharki by some local influential persons.

In a joint statement, PDSN coordinators Dr Sono Khangharani and Zulfiqar Shah and PILER Chief Executive Karamat Ali have demanded arrest of the religious holy mans who performed marriage of the minor girl.

"This is the worst form of extremism against Hindu Dalits in Sindh. Unfortunately, incidences against minorities are increasing day by day but there is no mechanism to deal with such issues," the statement said.

Anjali's school-leaving and birth certificates confirm that she was born in 2002, which proves her marriage illegal under the recently passed Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Bill, 2013.

Unfortunately, the Daharki Civil Court judge has ordered the girl to live in Darul Aman in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
despite her plea to live with her parents. The local Hindu community had observed a strike to condemn the incident.

In 2012, another 17-year-old, Rinkle Kumari, was kidnapped and then converted forcefully. National laws do not allow marriage before the age of 18. The constitution, under its Article 36, provides safeguard to the minorities.

On October 24, another young girl, Kajal Bheel, was also kidnapped from her home at Udero Lal town in Matiari District.

The Pakistain Dalit Solidarity Network with allied organizations like Human Rights Commission of Pakistain, Pakistain Institute of Labour Education and Research, District Development Association Tharparkar, Child Rights Movement and Society for the Protection of the rights of the Child (SPARC) have expressed their anguish over the gruesome cases of rape, forced conversion, forced marriages and murder of young Hindu Dalit and other minority girls in Sindh and other parts of the country.

The network has announced to arrange pressers and protests in various cities of Sindh. They said that the federal and provincial governments need to introduce legislation against forced conversion of minority girls in the country.

PUC demands 'unbiased inquiry' into blasphemy case
[Pak Daily Times] The Pakistain Ulema Council [PUC] has demanded an "unbiased inquiry" into the incident whereby a Christian couple was burnt alive in the city Kot Radha Kishan, Kasur District.

PUC Central Chairman Hafiz Mohammad Tahir Ashrafi has expressed deep grief over the incident, saying that the incident would not have taken place had the local police not shown negligence.

"In order to identify the real factors behind this incident, it is important to conduct an unbiased inquiry to find out the reasons as to why the incident took place," he said.

"If the couple was really guilty, why did the police not arrest them on the complaint of local residents? Or if they were not guilty, why was protection not offered to them in view of public reaction?" he added.

The PUC central chairman said that the PUC has formed a committee comprising scholars of various sects as well as non-Moslem representatives, adding that the committee will try to unearth facts of the incident.

Pakistan Summons U.S. Ambassador over Terrorist Sanctuary Report
[AnNahar] Pakistain Wednesday summoned the U.S. Ambassador Richard Olson in protest against what it said were "unsubstantiated" allegations in a U.S. Department of Defense report about terrorist sanctuaries in Pakistain that operate against Afghanistan.
Unsubstantiated? Check the files at ISI headquarters, my dear.
A foreign office spokesperson said Pakistain had taken serious exception to comments contained in the U.S. Department of Defense report.
Oh, that prickly Pakistani national pride, based almost entirely on lies.
The report, which was sent to Congress under the title "Progress Towards Security and Stability in Afghanistan", gave the blunt assessment that terrorist groups continued to operate out of sanctuaries in Pakistain to commit attacks against Afghanistan and India.

"Pakistain's protest over these unwarranted comments was conveyed by the Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sartaj Aziz to the U.S. Ambassador Richard Olson at the Foreign Ministry today", the foreign office said in a statement.

"Such allegations are of particular concern at this point when Pakistain government has launched comprehensive operations against Lions of Islam in North Wazoo", the statement said.
It's ironic, no? That the army has waged a war against its own pets, I mean.
Pakistain has been battling Islamist groups in its semi-autonomous tribal belt since 2004, after its army entered the region to search for Al-Qaeda gunnies who had fled across the border following the US-led invasion of Afghanistan.

In June the army began a long-awaited offensive against Lion of Islam hideouts in the North Waziristan tribal area, after a bloody raid on Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
Airport ended faltering peace talks between the government and the Taliban.

Washington has long maintained that murderous Moslems have been able to plan and carry out attacks on Pakistain's neighbours, urging Islamabad to do more to take the fight to the Lion of Islams.

A homegrown Taliban insurgency has also killed thousands of Paks in recent years. The attacks, once a near-daily occurrence, have tailed off since the army launched its anti-militant offensive in the northwest.

But on Sunday a jacket wallah killed more than 50 people at the main Pakistain-India border crossing.

The devastating attack, which also maimed more than 120 people, was a rare strike in Punjab, Pakistain's richest and most populous province and powerbase of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
It has largely been spared the worst of the bloody wave of Islamist violence that has assailed the country in recent years.

Police arrest dozens over Christian couple murder
Police have arrested 44 suspects amid countrywide outrage at another incident of murder of a Christian couple by a mob near Lahore on charge of blasphemy.
Not nearly enough evidence against any of them. Let them go. Forget the whole thing, like usual.
The enraged mob on November 4 beat the couple to death and then burnt their bodies in the brick kiln where they worked, for allegedly desecrating a copy of the Holy Quran.
Seems to be a lot of these allegations going around...
"We have arrested 44 people, it was a local issue incited by the mullah of a local mosque," Jawad Qamar, a regional police chief, told. "No particular sectarian group or religious outfit was behind the attack."
"No, no, certainly not!"
The incident took place in the town of Kot Radha Kishan, some 60 kilometres from Lahore, and is the latest example of mob violence against minorities accused of blasphemy. The victims were only identified by their first names, Shama and Shehzad, and were a married couple.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan, human rights activist Hussain Naqi and other voiced their sense of shock and grief and called for strong action against those who committed the brutal act.
That was for the westerners' benefit...
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has also constituted a three-member committee to fast track the investigation of the killings and ordered police to beef up security at Christian neighborhoods in the province.

Strongly condemning violence against the Christian couple, Pakistan Peoples Party demanded that the culprits be arrested and given exemplary punishment.

Meanwhile, the Amnesty International has asked Pakistan to bring those responsible for the killing of the Christian couple to justice. "Those responsible must be brought to justice and the Pakistani authorities have to ensure at-risk communities are proactively given the protection they need.

"This vicious mob killing is just the latest manifestation of the threat of vigilante violence which anyone can face in Pakistan after a blasphemy accusation, although religious minorities are disproportionately vulnerable," David Griffiths, Amnesty International's Deputy Asia Pacific said.

"This type of violence is fueled by Pakistan's repressive blasphemy laws, which add to the climate of fear for religious minorities. A mere accusation of blasphemy is often enough to put a person and their wider community in danger.

"In this case, a mob appears to have played judge, jury and executioner. The blasphemy laws violate international human rights law and standards and should be reformed as a matter of urgency to provide effective safeguards against their abuse, with a view to their eventual repeal," Griffiths said.

Amnesty said that consistent failure by the government to tackle violence in the name of religion has effectively sent the message that anyone can commit outrageous abuses and excuse them as defense of religious sentiments.
That's pretty much the point...
"The climate of impunity around violence against religious minorities in Pakistan is pervasive, and it is all too rare that those behind attacks are held to account," said David Griffiths.

Lawfare: ICC Will Not Investigate Israeli Raid On Mavi Marmara

Egypt Crackdown on Activists, Morsi Supporters Under Fire at U.N.
[AnNahar] The U.N.'s top human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
body took Egypt to task Wednesday for a litany of rights abuses, including its crackdown on supporters of ousted Islamist president Mohammed Morsi, journalists and activists.
Is that the one generally headed by countries like Iran and Cuba?
In the Human Rights Council's first review of Egypt's rights record since 2010, which covers the period since long-ruling leader Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...
was toppled to the turbulent ousting of Morsi, several Western envoys voiced alarm at the worsening human rights situation in Egypt.

Rights groups including Amnesia Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch
... During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011, HRW received a pledge from the Foundation to Promote Open Society, of which George Soros is Chairman, for general support totaling $100,000,000. The grant is being paid in installments of $10,000,000 over ten years.Through June 30, 2013, HRW had received $30,000,000 towards the fulfillment of the pledge....
said the situation is unprecedented and urged the council to order an international probe into the crackdown, mass arrests and unfair trials.

But Egypt hit back, insisting that the government of Abdel Fattah al-Sissi had made human rights a priority since toppling Morsi in June last year.

"The prioritization of human rights is at the core of the political life of the new administration," Egyptian Minister of Transitional Justice Ibrahim el-Heneidy told the council.

"Egypt will fulfill its international obligations," he said.

But Western diplomats voiced doubts.

U.S. envoy Keith Harper cited in particular the government's crackdown on Morsi supporters in July and August 2013 that "resulted in a large number of deaths of Egyptian citizens."

"We are concerned about the lack of accountability for those accused of human rights abuses" in these incidents, he told the council.

Sisi's government began clamping down on Morsi supporters after the Islamist president was ousted in July 2013, leaving at least 1,400 dead and more than 15,000 jugged
Please don't kill me!
. Hundreds have also been sentenced to death after often speedy trials.

Over a period of just a few days of festivities in Cairo in August 2013, police potted hundreds of protesters.

Britannia's Karen Pierce raised concern over "the numbers of detainees in pre-trial detention, reports of mistreatment or torture, use of mass trials and trial irregularities (and) retention of the death penalty."

She also decried the decreasing space for civil society and the media to operate."

Sweden's representative meanwhile highlighted "the precarious situation of women in Egypt," calling for legislative reform to "combat sexual harassment and gender-based violence."

Seven Egyptian non-governmental organizations announced Wednesday that they would not participate in the U.N.'s Universal Periodic Review, which all 193 U.N. countries must undergo every four years, for fear of reprisal.

Cairo has set a November 10 deadline for all NGOs to register with the government, in a move activists warn will deal a death blow to the country's civil society.

"Civil society is on the verge of disappearing," warned Philippe Dam of Human Rights Watch.

Nicholas Piachaud of Amnesty warned via video link that many people in Egypt were facing "grossly unfair trials", while others were disappearing and "torture is once again rife."

"All of these things are happening against the backdrop of rampant discrimination," he said, demanding "robust action" from the council.

U.N. Considers Adding Libya Jihadists to Terror List
Golly, Do let us know when you've decided something.
[AnNahar] La Belle France, Britannia and the United States on Tuesday asked a Security Council committee to add Libyan Islamist group Ansar al-Sharia
...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet...
to a U.N. terror list for its ties to al-Qaeda.

Ansar al-Sharia is already on the U.S. terror list for its role in the September 2012 attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi that killed the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans.

A copy of the French-led request to the al-Qaeda sanctions committee was obtained by Agence La Belle France Presse.

Inclusion on the U.N. terror list means members of the group are subject to visa bans, asset freezes and an arms embargo, and the move more broadly cuts the group off from the political mainstream.

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius in September told a meeting on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly that the group should face sanctions as part of efforts to prevent Libya from sliding further into violence.

In the request to the Security Council, the three countries asked that Ansar al-Sharia Benghazi and Ansar al-Sharia Derna be blacklisted, arguing that both groups have ties to al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and other murderous Moslem groups.

Since 2012, the Benghazi wing has operated several terrorist training camps mainly to help gangs in Iraq and Syria and to a lesser extent in Mali, according to the request.

Twelve of the 24 jihadists who attacked the Algerian In Amenas gas complex in 2013 trained in the camps of Ansar al-Sharia in Benghazi, Libya's second city, the documents said.

More recently, the group has conducted several attacks on Libyan security forces, it added.

Ansar al-Sharia Derna also took part in the 2012 attack on the U.S. mission and is operating camps in the northeastern Derna and Jebel Akhdar regions to train fighters for Iraq and Syria.

This month, Ansar al-Sharia Derna pledged allegiance to ISIL, the Islamist group that has seized control of territory in Iraq and Syria, according to the documents.

The Security Council has until November 19 to raise objections to the proposal.

On Monday, Libyan pro-government forces launched an attack on districts held by the Islamist militias around Benghazi.

Libyan authorities have struggled to assert control across a country awash with weapons and powerful militias which ousted longtime dictator Muammar Qadaffy
...a proud Arab institution for 42 years, now among the dear departed, though not the dearest...
in a 2011 revolt.

Our troops' progress is continuing and we are determined to liberate all the Iraqi territories," a statement from Abadi's office quoted him as saying after meeting with British Defense Secretary Michael Fallon, who's paying an official visit to Baghdad.

"We have worked to create a climate of confidence that boosted the participation of the tribes and their cooperation with our armed forces," Abadi said.

For his part, Fallon hailed the latest victories of the Iraqi forces, renewing his country's pledge to provide help to Iraqi forces in the fields of arming, training and all what the Iraqi forces need in their fight against terrorism.

Britain to Send More Personnel to Train Iraqi Forces
[AnNahar] Britannia will send more security personnel to Iraq to help train forces for their battle against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. jihadist group, Defense Secretary Michael Fallon said on Wednesday.

The United Kingdom, which is supporting U.S.-led air strikes aimed at driving IS jihadists out of significant parts of Iraq, is already training Kurdish forces in the country.

"We will be stepping up our training effort. We're talking to our coalition partners about how the... additional training is going to be provided, in training centres in and around Baghdad," Fallon told journalists in the Iraqi capital.

The training would be for battalions able to leave the front lines, he said, without specifying if it would involve Iraqi soldiers, police or both.

The exact number of trainers that would be sent had not yet been decided.

"One particular area of expertise we have is in counter-IED (improvised bombs). We've learnt from Afghanistan in dealing with roadside kabooms and boom-mobiles and we have some specialist knowledge to contribute," said Fallon.

Britannia already has a "small number of people" in Baghdad, and "will be looking now to see how we can strengthen that, the liaison work that we're doing in the ministries and the security agencies here," he said.

The Ministry of Defense said last month that a "small, specialist team" of soldiers was providing training to Kurdish forces in the country's autonomous north on the use of heavy machineguns.

And it said in a statement on Wednesday that Britannia would be increasing the training on offer to the Kurds "to include infantry skills such as sharp-shooting and first aid, alongside the provision of further equipment".

Fallon met with Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi, Kurdish regional president Massud Barzani and other senior Iraqi and Kurdish officials during the trip, on which he visited both Baghdad and the northern city of Arbil, the ministry said.

Prime Minister David Cameron
... has stated that he is certainly a big Thatcher fan, but I don't know whether that makes me a Thatcherite, which means he's not. Since he is not deeply ideological he lacks core principles and is easily led. He has been described as certainly not a Pitt, Elder or Younger, but he does wear a nice suit so maybe he's Beau Brummel ...
has ruled out sending combat troops back into Iraq, wary of committing to a new conflict six months from a general election.

Britannia was one of the main members of the U.S.-led "coalition of the willing" that invaded Iraq in 2003 and overthrew dictator Saddam Hussein.

The last British forces withdrew from Iraq in 2011.

Britannia has not participated in air strikes by the coalition against IS in Syria, where the jihadist group has also seized significant territory.

Jordan Said To Review Ties With Israel After Reports Police Entered Al Aqsa Mosque
[IsraelTimes] Jordan warned Wednesday it will reevaluate its diplomatic ties with Israel, including its 20-year peace accord, in light of what it termed Israeli âviolationsâ on the Temple Mount.
Not worried about ISIS, et al anymore? Okay, then.
Government spokesman Mohammad al-Momani told Al-Jazeera that âall legal and diplomatic options are open in order to respond to the Israeli violations of the al-Aqsa mosque,â according to the Ynet news website.
Has the thought occurred to his kingness of Jordan that it might be a good idea to prevent "worshippers" in the mosque from physically attacking unbelievers on the plaza with deadly weapons, merely because the worshippers disapprove of their existence? Then the police wouldn't need to chase the jihadis deep into their fortress.
Earlier in the day the Hashemite Kingdom recalled its ambassador from Tel Aviv and moved to file a UN complaint after police clashed with stone-throwing Palestinians at the holy site Wednesday morning.

Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh said Israelâs recent actions at the compound were âway beyond the limits.â

Its full computer coding reads: DOT-E7694 NRC6400/11109/M1033 79294 ASSY 39317 MFR 54080.

A battery tube from another missile fired on the fourth of last month carries an inscription indented in the metal: "132964 Battery thermal MFG DATE 12/90 LOT No (indecipherable numeral then 912 S/N 005959."

Um, no. AFAIK, there is no such thing as a "heat seeking" missile that can be fired by guys on the ground, unless we're talking about a Stinger - and from those dates, it's extremely unlikely that a Stinger that old would still be functional. No burn marks or othere explosive trauma on those parts says to me somebody got some random parts together and claimed they're from US weapons.

#4  You are right Mike. Its not a heat seeker. It is however from a TOW. See Practical Military Ordnance Identification
By Tom Gersbeck, page 201 figure 8.7. Google books has it online. The helium bottle pictured in the figure is a good match.
There is no sign of explosive damage or burns on the bottle from the article. Maybe they didn't arm the missile correctly.

Yes, he is, and I missed the byline. Good catch, Bunyip. Enjoy the chew toy, guys.

#6  PENALTY UP TO $25,000 AND FIVE YEARS IMPRISONMENT (49 USC 1809).

It is a law enforcement case for the FBI and Holder. The FBI will get right on it and soon as Holder gets done shredding and destroying documents after this mid-term election.

Kerry: Iran Nuclear Deal Harder After November 24
[Ynet] Reaching a nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers will be more difficult if negotiations drag beyond a November 24 deadline, US Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
said on Wednesday. Kerry, speaking ahead of his planned weekend talks with Iran's foreign minister, said the United States and its allies were not - for now - weighing an extension of the negotiations.

"I think it gets more complicated if you can't" meet the deadline, Kerry said, adding "it's not impossible."
Can anyone honestly question that here is truly The Second Smartest Man In The Room?

#2  Far from being naive about Iran’s capabilities and intentions, as some opponents have suggested, Obama administration negotiators are “some of the most serious and capable, expert people in our government, who have spent a lifetime dealing with both Iran” and nuclear proliferation issues, Kerry said.
“We are not blind, and I don’t think we’re stupid,” he added.
From a WAPO story: WAPO version.

Not convinced? Me either. It seems that voters spoke at the polls regarding "naive, blind, and stupid."

#3  Why the 24th? Because that's when they have to leave for Thanksgiving, and after that it's Black Friday sales, and then Christmas shopping, and half of the State Dept has to use up excess vacation by the end of the year.
So it's really important.

Nusra Front Vows Fierce Battle with Hizbullah in Lebanon, Promises Immense Surprises
[AnNahar] The emir of the al-Qaeda affiliate al-Nusra
...the current nom de guerre of al-Qaeda in the Levant, which isn't to be confused with al-Qaeda in Iraq and the Levant...
Front, Abu Mohammed al-Joulani, announced that the battle with Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
in Leb didn't begin yet, vowing surprises along the Lebanese-Syrian border.

"Our brothers in al-Qalamoun region have many surprises... The real battle in Leb didn't start yet," al-Joulani said in an audio message distributed online on Tuesday night.

He pointed out that Hizbullah will suffer greatly, saying: "Maybe (Hizbullah's) secretary general Hassan Nasrallah will regret during the upcoming days the harm he inflicted against Sunnis in Syria."

"We were forced to move the battle into Leb, in particular, Hizbullah's stronghold in the South and Beirut's southern suburbs and to target its positions," the emir said.

Al-Joulani said that al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli sh-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
Front fighters sent many signals to Hizbullah to indicate the risks of its intervention in the ongoing war in Syria and its support to Bashir al-Assad's regime.

Nasrallah told supporters on Tuesday, who were gathered in Dahiyeh to mark the day of Ashura, that Sunni radicals, known as takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who most be killed...
s, "have no future".

"These takfiris will be defeated in all areas and countries, and we will feel honored that we played a role in their defeat," he said by video link.

Beirut's southern suburbs -- a Hizbullah stronghold -- have seen a string of deadly attacks, many of them claimed by jihadists, since the group started sending fighters to Syria three years ago.

"We want to win the final victory... so that the region does not fall into the hands of beheaders... and rapists," Nasrallah said.

Hizbullah sent fighters to Syria to back President Assad's forces against rebels trying to remove him from power. The armed intervention in Syria earned the group the enmity of Syria's predominantly Sunni rebels. Assad is a member of the Alawite sect, an offshoot of Shiite Islam.

Over the past year, Syrian troops and Hizbullah fighters have captured most of the towns and villages in Syria's mountainous Qalamoun region along the Leb border, depriving the rebels of residential areas where they can stay during the winter.

However,
you can observe a lot just by watching...
Hizbullah's involvement in Syria had drawn the ire of many in Leb.

#3  This can get complicated, as Iran may interprete any milaction agz Hezbollah by AL-NUSRA, aka AL-NUSRA THE BFF TO ALLEGED TURKEY-SUPPORTED ISIS/ISIL, as one that is also supported by TURKEY???

Again, so-called "Neo-Ottoman", future US-style OWG Co-Superpower Turkey at present has no room for territorial andor geopol expansion save at the expence or detriment of those sovereign Nation-States which surround it.

Iran dispatches Navy's 32nd flotilla to Gulf of Aden
The Iranian Navy's 32nd flotilla of warships was dispatched to the Gulf of Aden to protect the country's commercial ships and oil tanks against pirates, the Fars news agency reported.

The flotilla including the Jamaran destroyer and Bushehr helicopter-carrier warship left Bandar Abbas port, in Southern Hormozgan province on Nov. 4.
Along with a fleet tug...
As part of the fleet's mission, the ships would later proceed via the Strait of Hormuz, Jask port in the Oman Sea and finally to the Gulf of Aden.

The naval group has been given orders to protect the shipping lanes where the Iranian ships would travel and also to assist the foreign ships requiring emergency assistance in the Gulf of Aden, according to the report.
And to drop off weapons in Sudan...
It's harder to get weapons to Hamas than it used to be, now that the Mamluks are all riled up on the subject.
