Afghanistan
U.N.: Record Opium Poppy Cultivation this Year in Afghanistan
[AnNahar] Opium poppy cultivation in Afghanistan reached a record high in 2014, a United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
report revealed Wednesday, highlighting the failure of the multi-billion-dollar U.S.-led campaign to crack down on the lucrative crop.

The total area under poppy cultivation was about 224,000 hectares (553,500 acres) in 2014, a seven percent increase on last year, according to the annual Afghanistan Opium Survey released by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

Just 74,000 hectares was being used to grow poppies in 2002, a year after the Taliban regime was toppled.

Despite a decade of costly U.S. and international counter-narcotics programs, poppy farming has boomed in the south and west regions, which include the most volatile parts of the country where the Taliban insurgency is strongest.

With U.S.-led NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
troops withdrawing from Afghanistan, fears are rising that worsening instability could trigger further growth in opium cultivation as Afghan cops struggle to push back the resurgent Taliban.

Poppy farmers are often taxed by the Taliban, who use the cash to help fund their insurgency against government and NATO forces.

"The country is having to stand on its own feet (and)... will have to deal with this criminalization of its economics and politics as a matter of priority," Jean-Luc Lemahieu, director of policy analysis at UNODC, said.

#4  I have to wonder just exactly how a multi-billion dollar U.S.-led campaign to crack down on the lucrative crop results in record high production. It seems kinda suspicious...almost if the money was spent to actually boost production. They wouldn't do that, now, would they? Would they?

Death Toll in NE Nigeria School Bombing Rises to 58
[AnNahar] The corpse count in a suspected Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
suicide kaboom of a secondary school in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
has risen to 58, a school official told AFP on Wednesday.

"From records at our disposal, the corpse count now stands at 58 while the number of those injured has soared to 117," said the official at the school in Potiskum, Yobe state.

A bomber disguised in school uniform went kaboom! as students gathered for morning assembly at the Government Comprehensive Senior Science Secondary School before classes began on Monday.

Federal police previously gave the corpse count as 47 with 79 injured and said that Boko Haram, which is opposed to so-called Western or secular education, was believed to be responsible.

The attack was one of the worst against a state-run school in Boko Haram's bloody five-year insurgency, which has seen boarding school students killed in their beds.

The group was also responsible for the mass kidnapping of 276 schoolgirls from the northeastern town of Chibok in Borno state in April. More than six months on, 219 are still being held.

The school official asked to remain anonymous because he was not authorised to talk to the media.

He said the higher toll was because many of the dead and injured were taken straight home rather than to hospital until an appeal was made by the state government.

Nigeria Slams U.S. Refusal of Arms to Fight Boko Haram
[AnNahar] Nigeria's ambassador to Washington has blasted the United States for refusing to sell his country the weapons needed to deliver "the killer punch" to defeat Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
krazed killers.

In a speech made public Tuesday, Ambassador Adebowale Adefuye also dismissed as "rumors, hear-says and exaggerated accounts" allegations of human rights
...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state...
abuses by the Nigerian army in its crackdown on the Islamist Death Eaters.

"The Nigerian leadership... are not satisfied with the scope, nature and content of the United States' support for us in our struggle against terrorists," Adefuye told members of the Council on Foreign Relations on Monday.

His speech was posted Tuesday on the embassy website on the same day that President Goodluck Jonathan
... 14th President of Nigeria. He was Governor of Bayelsa State from 9 December 2005 to 28 May 2007, and was sworn in as Vice President on 29 May 2007. Jonathan is a member of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP). He is a lover of nifty hats, which makes him easily recognizable unless someone else in the room is wearing a neat chapeau...
announced he would stand again for re-election, vowing to defeat Boko Haram.

"We find it difficult to understand how and why in spite of the U.S. presence in Nigeria with their sophisticated military technology Boko Haram should be expanding and becoming more deadly," Adefuye said.

A small team of U.S. military and State Department advisers has been in Nigeria for months seeking to help track down some 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram in mid-April.

But on Jonathan's watch, Boko Haram violence and the military's response to it has killed more than 10,000 people in the past five years and left hundreds of thousands more homeless.

The Islamists now reportedly control more than two dozen northeast towns.

While condemning the attacks by Boko Haram, the U.S. has repeatedly called for the Nigerian army to show restraint as it seeks to hunt down the murderous Moslems and not give in to reprisals.

The ambassador however insisted the fault lay with Washington.

"The U.S. government has up till today refused to grant Nigeria's request to purchase lethal equipment that would have brought down the turbans within a short time," he said.

"There is no use giving us the type of support that enables us to deliver light jabs to the turbans when what we need to give them is the killer punch," he said.

Washington's allegations of widespread human rights abuses by the Nigerian army "cannot be substantiated by facts," Adefuye said, adding "half-truths" had been spread by Jonathan's rivals and human rights groups with an agenda.

"The turbans threaten our corporate existence and territorial integrity," the ambassador said, urging members of the Council on Foreign Relations to plead Nigeria's case with the U.S. administration.

"A friend in need is a friend indeed. The true test of friendship is in the times of adversity."
So true. What have you concluded about the current administration?

Jordanian arrested over Al-Ahsa strike
[ARABNEWS] Security forces have tossed in the clink
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
a Jordanian expatriate in connection with the terrorist attack in Al-Ahsa, said the Interior Ministry on Wednesday. Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki, front man of the ministry, said in a statement that security officers arrested the man in Hail and seized several communication devices, a computer and money found in his possession. The raid followed several others that had taken place in the area. The police have now arrested 36 suspects in connection with the Al-Ahsa attacks, which includes two Saudi coppers. The Jordanian is the only non-Saudi.

There have now arrested 12 Jordanians in the Kingdom since the beginning of the war on terror in the Kingdom. Security sources said the suspects are under investigation for suspicious money transfers.

The attack in Al-Ahsa resulted in the death of seven people. In follow-up operations, two officers and three bad boyz were potted. The hard boyz had earlier shot and killed a citizen for his car. The corpse count stands at 13.

Meanwhile,
...back at the buffalo wallow, Yellow Wolf clutched at his chest and fell from his horse...

Suspect Package Sent to U.S. Embassy in New Zealand
[AnNahar] Emergency services rushed to the United States embassy in Wellington on Wednesday after a suspicious package was found in the third such incident in less than 24 hours in New Zealand.

"A suspicious package was identified during the normal mail screening process and was referred to the fire service and the police," an embassy front man said.

The package was discovered a day after two parcels containing Ebola references were discovered in New Zealand.

"The embassy is open and continues to operate normally ... The embassy continues to monitor the situation closely," the front man said in a statement.

A police bomb disposal unit was at the scene and fire-fighters wearing chemical suits were outside the building.

During screening, X-ray examination revealed a vial in the package which has been sent unopened to a government laboratory for testing, police front man Nick Bohm said.

An embassy staff member was also decontaminated as a safety precaution.

"It's standard procedure in cases like this. The decontamination unit was at the scene," Bohm told Agence La Belle France Presse.

On Tuesday, suspicious packages were delivered to the parliament building in Wellington and to the New Zealand Herald newspaper office in Auckland.

The packages contained a plastic bottle and documents that claimed that the liquid in the vial was a sample of the deadly Ebola virus.

The liquid has been sent to Australia for testing for the virus which has claimed nearly 5,000 lives mostly in West Africa.

Health authorities stressed there was no evidence to suggest New Zealand was dealing with Ebola.

"The Herald is traditionally a centre-right newspaper, and was given the nickname "Granny Herald" into the 1990s... today despite remaining free enterprise oriented on economic matters such as trade and foreign investment, the Herald is generally editorially progressive on international geopolitics, diplomacy, and military matters, printing material from British newspapers such as The Independent and The Observer but more recently, conservative newspapers such as The Daily Telegraph. The Herald's stance on the Middle East is supportive of Israel, as seen most clearly in its 2003 censorship and dismissal of cartoonist Malcolm Evans following his submission of cartoons critical of Israel."

U.S. lawmaker: Europe security gaps fuel 'jihadi superhighway'
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] European security shortcomings have created a "jihadi superhighway" allowing countless battle-hardened Islamic bully boyz to return from Syria, a top U.S. politician warned Wednesday.

"Security gaps in Europe -- and Turkey in particular -- make it easier for them to return to the West undetected," House Homeland Security Committee chairman Michael McCaul said in an op-ed for Time Magazine.

He pointed to reports that 1,000 fighters monthly, including many westerners, were pouring into the conflict zone to join the Islamic State

ATC issues non-bailable arrest warrants for Imran, Qadri
[DAWN] An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad on Wednesday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI) Chairman Imran Khan

and Pakistain Awami Tehrik (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri
...Pak politician, and would-be dictator, founder and head of Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran and Pakistain Awami Tehrik. He usually resides in Canada, but returns to Pakistain periodically to foam at the mouth and lead demonstrations. Depending on which way the wind's blowing, Qadri claims to be the author of Pak's blasphemy law. Other times he says it wasn't him...
, DawnNews reported.

The arrest warrants were issued for attacking the Pakistain Television (PTV) building and Parliament.

The court also issued arrest warrants for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, PTI Vice-Chairman Shah Mehmood Wormtongue Qureshi, PTI leader Asad Umar and PAT leader Raheeq Abbasi.

Paperwork was started but nothing else was done against the above mentioned at secretariat cop shoppe in Islamabad.

In September, charged protesters of PTI and PAT broke into the PTV headquarters, a state-owned media enterprise.

As soon as angry protesters entered the news headquarters of the state-owned television channel, they took over the programming control room and transmission was taken off air temporarily. It was later restored after the army stepped in to vacate the building.

The protesters damaged furniture and television equipment during the rampage.

They also took away rare pictures, food items from canteen and even the sound system from the building's mosque.

Following the attack on PTV, the federal government termed it an act of "aggression and violence".

The government had said that action would be taken in accordance with the law against those responsible for the attack.

IS visits militants in Balochistan: Jundullah spokesman
[DAWN] DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A front man for holy warrior group Jundullah on Wednesday claimed that a delegation from the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group had visited the organization's leaders in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
.

Jundullah front man Fahad Marwat said the visit took place this week in the Balochistan province. He said the purpose of visit by the Islamic State group was to see how it could work to unite various Pak holy warrior groups.

Jundullah is a branch of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP).

The TTP this week sacked its front man for announcing allegiance to the IS, which has captured large swaths of territory in Iraq and Syria and declared a self-styled caliphate, or Islamic empire, in the Middle East.

TTP considers Mullah Mohammad Omar as the Moslems' leader.

One of the major reasons holy warrior outfits are approaching the IS is due to the splint created within their network after a major military offensive, Zarb-e-Azb
..the Pak offensive against Qaeda in Pakistain and the Pak Taliban in North Wazoo. The name refers to the sword of the Prophet (PTUI!)...
, and an intelligence-driven operation, Khyber-I, by the Pakistain's armed forces in parts of North Wazoo and Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

Jundullah is the same outfit that had grabbed credit for a deadly suicide kaboom on the Wagah border in Lahore, where more than 60 people were killed. Another TTP splinter group, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, had also grabbed credit for the attack.

Jundullah's front man had also said by telephone that the Wagah-border attack was a reaction to military's ongoing operation in the tribal region.

Earlier, the provincial government of Balochistan had conveyed a confidential report to the federal government and law enforcement agencies warning of increased footprints of IS, also known by the Arabic acronym Daish, in Pakistain.

"It has been reliably learnt that Daish has offered some elements of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain. LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. They are currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of al-Qaeda ...
(LeJ) and Ahl-e-Sunnat Wai Jamat (ASWJ) to join hands in Pakistain. Daish has also formed a ten-member Strategic Planning Wing," the report from the Home and Tribal Affair Department of Balochistan had said.

The report further stated that the IS plans to attack military installations and government buildings in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
in retaliation to the army-led operations and also plans to target members of the Shia community.

The warning had come days after six top commanders of the outlawed TTP, including its now defunct front man Shahidullah Shahid, had announced their allegiance to IS's caliph Abu Bakar Al-Baghdadi.

Moreover, TTP chief for Orakzai Agency
... crawling with holy men, home to Darra Adam Khel, the world's largest illegal arms bazaar. 14 distinct tribes of beturbanned primitives inhabit Orakzai agency's 1500 or so square kilometers...
Saeed Khan, TTP chief for Kurram Agency
...home of an intricately interconnected web of poverty, ignorance, and religious fanaticism, where the laws of cause and effect are assumed to be suspended, conveniently located adjacent to Tora Bora...
Daulat Khan, TTP's Khyber Agency chief Fateh Gul Zaman, TTP's Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
chief Mufti Hassan and TTP's Hangu chief Khalid Mansoor had also announced their allegiance to Abu Bakar Al-Baghdadi.

Wall-chalking has also begun to appear in support of IS in some cities of Pakistain, including Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
and Khanewal.

However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan
...Currently the Interior Minister of Pakistain. He is the senior leader of the Pak Moslem League (N) and a close aide to Nawaz Uncle Fester Sharif. He is noted for his vocal anti-American railing in the National Assembly. However (comma) Khan told the U.S. ambassador that he was in fact pro-American but he and the PML-N would have to be critical of US actions in order to remain publicly credible. Khan cited his wife and children's US citizenship as proof, which means he's lying to one side or the other and probably both. He wears a wig, but you probably guessed that. since hair doesn't grow naturally in that shape or texture...
on Tuesday ruled out the presence of IS in the country. "No organization of this name exists in Pakistain," he said while speaking to news hounds in Karachi.

Sound of silent revival
[DAWN] MOHAMMAD Ghufran took less than a few seconds to sum up the reasons that have led to the decline of the political and economic influence of the Moslems in the world. "We've digressed from the 'true path' of Islam and lost our way," he explained to Dawn on Sunday, the last day of the first phase of the Tableeghi Jamaat's annual gathering at its centre in Raiwind. The second phase begins on Wednesday.
Right. Not enough Islam. I knew it all along.
The 32-year-old public schoolteacher from Gujranwala, who spends his weekends 'reforming' his fellow Moslems, isn't the only one who holds that the Moslems can regain their old glory and dominate the world if they choose to return to the true path of Islam. Millions of other followers of the Tableeghi Jamaat, the largest Islamic revivalist movement in the world today, share his opinion, and are trying to change the Moslem societies and communities around the globe through dawa, or preaching.

The Jamaat, an offshoot of the Deobandi movement, was founded by Maulana Mohammad Ilyas in Saharanpur, now in India, to spread the message of Islam and purge the Moslems of the influences of other religions, especially those from Hindu culture. In the early years, its influence grew very slowly. Its biggest impetus came from the partition of the subcontinent after which it spread around the world. But "its roots essentially remain in South Asia and its leadership also comes from the subcontinent," says Arsalan Khan, a cultural anthropologist who did his PhD on the movement and teaches at the Institute of Business Administration in Bloody Karachi

We Crossed the Line', U.S. Admits to U.N. Anti-Torture Body
[AnNahar] The United States The Obama administration representative to the UN said Wednesday it did not condone torture under any circumstances, but acknowledged to a U.N. anti-torture watchdog it that dreadful George W had "crossed the line" following the September 11 attacks.

"The U.S. is proud of its record as a leader in respecting, promoting and defending human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
and the rule of law, both at home and around the world," acting U.S. legal advisor Mary McLeod told the 10-member U.N. Committee on Torture.

"But in the wake of 9/11 attacks, we regrettably did not always live up to our own values," she said.
Sez her.
"We crossed the line and we take responsibility for that," she said, quoting U.S. President Barack Obama
I mean, I do think at a certain point you've made enough money...
That is to say, George W. dunnit.
McLeod was one of about 30 top U.S. officials gathered in Geneva for Washington's first grilling by the committee since 2006.

In its first review since Obama came to power, several delegates acknowledged abuses had occurred during the so-called "War on Terror" under the previous administration of George W. Bush.

"We recognize that no nation is perfect, ours included," Keith Harper, U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Human Rights Council, told the committee.

The delegation faced a barrage of questions from committee members on how the country was dealing with rectifying and providing redress for acknowledged abuses during the "war on terror".

The U.S. delegation was asked to explain why the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba remains open, why many detainees remain there without charge and when Washington plans to shut it down.

The committee members also questioned the treatment of prisoners there, and lack of redress for victims of the widely publicized abuses by U.S. troops at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq in the early 2000s.

Beyond the "war on terror" legacy, the committee members raised issues of abuses in U.S. prisons, rape in prisons, the broad use of drawn-out solitary confinement, and long years on death row.

And they asked how Washington could justify its widespread detention of non-violent, non-criminal undocumented Democrats, including minors.

And they slammed police brutality that appears to disproportionately affect minorities, such as 18-year-old Michael Brown, who was shot and killed by white police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Missouri last August.

His parents were in Geneva this week to take part in events on the sidelines of the committee hearing.

The committee is set to publish its conclusions on November 28.

Israel denies entry to members of UN lynching posse
Israel denied entry on Wednesday evening to members of a UN commission appointed by the Human Rights Council to investigate possible war crimes committed during Operation Protective Edge.

Members of the committee, often referred to by the name of the lead investigator, Prof. William Schabas, had arrived in Amman before asking permission to enter Israel. Jerusalem refused their request and the decision led to an announcement that Israel would not cooperate with the commission.

Israel approves 200 new homes in east Jerusalem
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Israeli authorities gave preliminary approval Wednesday for construction of 200 new homes in a Jewish area of east Jerusalem, a move likely to ratchet up already heightened tensions in the city.

The decision came shortly before U.S. Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
was to arrive in neighboring Jordan on a mission aimed at restoring calm in the Holy Land after weeks of unrest.

Much of the recent violence has stemmed from tensions surrounding a sensitive holy site revered by Moslems and Jews. The collapse of U.S.-brokered peace talks, Israel's bloody war last summer in the Gazoo Strip and continued Israeli settlement construction in east Jerusalem have added to it.

Brachie Sprung, a spokeswoman for the municipality, said city officials approved 200 homes in the Ramat area. Sprung said the approval was just a preliminary stage of the planning process - meaning construction would be years away.

She also said city officials approved an additional 174 homes for construction in an Arab neighborhood.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Report: Hezbollah Enlisting Christians, Druze, Sunnis For Next War With Israel
[Ynet] Hezbollah is reportedly working to enlist Christian, Druze and Sunni youths for a new force called the 'Resistance Brigades' which will battle Israel in the next conflict between the Lebanese Shiite terror group and Israel.

Under the slogan of "our fate is one and we must struggle together", the terror group is offering youths free arms and military training, a-Nahar reported.
An Nahar has a different perspective:
Report: Hizbullah Recruiting Fighters to Reactivate Resistance Brigades in Bekaa

Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
is reportedly boosting and reactivating the Resistance
That'd be the Hezbullies, natch...
Brigades by recruiting fighters from all sects in the north and the west of the Bekaa valley and offering them training and arms to combat the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group and other organizations.

According to An Nahar newspaper published on Wednesday, several youth are directly training with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards in return for a hefty salary ranging between $1,500 and $2,500.

The newspaper reported that Hizbullah still hasn't sent the Resistance Brigades fighters to the neighboring country Syria but instead the party is preparing them to confront any upcoming war or murderous Moslem group that sought refuge in Leb.

The report continued that a number of Christian fighters requested to join the Resistance Brigades amid the unstable security and social situation.

The Syrian conflict has exacerbated existing sectarian tensions in Leb, where most Sunni residents back the Syrian uprising and Shiites generally support Syria's Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Horror of Homs...
.

Hizbullah sent fighters to Syria to back President Assad's forces against rebels trying to remove him from power. The armed intervention in Syria earned the group the enmity of Syria's predominantly Sunni rebels. Assad is a member of the Alawite sect, an offshoot of Shiite Islam.

Over the past year, Syrian troops and Hizbullah fighters have captured most of the towns and villages in Syria's mountainous Qalamoun region along the Leb border, depriving the rebels of residential areas where they can stay during the winter.

However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
Hizbullah's involvement in Syria had drawn the ire of many in Leb.

#1  If these Christians and the Druze are enlisting in a Lebanese Shiite terror group, they are not exactly being true to their faiths for a variety of reasons, and show great naivety. The Israelis are the only ones in the region wiling to protect their interests. That Hezbollah is reporting this makes it dubious. I'd be interested in hearing more from others sources.

Report: Jordan Helped Syria Stop Al-Qaeda Branch From Taking Control Of Border
[Ynet] Jordanian sources passed information to Syria that helped the country stop Jabhat al-Nusra
...the current nom de guerre of al-Qaeda in the Levant, which isn't to be confused with al-Qaeda in Iraq and the Levant...
, an al-Qaeda branch in Syria, from taking control of the border between the two countries, the Paleostinian newspaper Al-Quds reported Wednesday.

In recent weeks, rebels have reported that they are close to taking over the Nasib Border Crossing, an international border crossing between Syria and Jordan, which would have given them control along the border. However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
the Syrian army has attempted to halt such actions.

'US-led Syria Strikes Kill At Least 860'
[Ynet] A Syrian activist group says US-led coalition Arclight airstrikes against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group and other holy warriors have killed more than 860 people, including civilians, since they began in mid-September.

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the vast majority those killed -- 746 people -- have been Islamic State myrmidons. It says another 68 people killed were members of al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate known as the Nusra Front.

The Observatory also said on Wednesday that at least 50 civilians, including eight children and five women, have been killed in the Arclight airstrikes.

The US-led coalition's aerial campaign in Syria began on Sept. 23. The Islamic State group has been the primary target, although on at least two occasions the United States has carried out strikes targeting the Nusra Front as well.
