suspects are going to be sent to the court next week.

Despite arresting nearly 50 people including several police officials, the police have still been unable to arrest 11 main perpetrators involved in killing of Farkhunda -- the 27-year-old girl who was killed and burnt by a mob last month on the accusation of burning the Holy Koran.

Sources told TOLOnews that Saiful-Rahman, one of the key perpetrators, was arrested on Wednesday.

However,

five other main perpetrators including Padshah, Habib-e-Deh Afghanan and the custodian of shrine are yet to be arrested.

Meanwhile,

the fact finding committee reveals about immoral activities being taken place in the Shah-e-Do Shamshera Shrine of Kabul, where Farkhunda was brutally killed.

According to the committee, sex tablets and condoms have been found from one of the rooms in the shrine which was closed after the tragic incident occurred.

The committee members, however, demand open trail of the suspects following fears about possible interference into the court verdicts if the sessions held behind the closed doors.

"People are worried that the case may turn political or the court treat the case unlike to the facts, therefore, the suspects must be tried in public," a committee member Fawzia Kofi said. "Some sacred places are never investigated, but the things discovered there [in the shrine] indicate about immoral activities."

president's office reiterates to bring all the perpetrators to justice.

"Government is committed to take serious and solid actions against those who took part in this horrific act," president's front man Ajmal Obaid Abidi said.

Furthermore, the Ulema Council has also announced support to government's stance in dealing with the case according to the laws of Afghanistan.

However,

the Criminal Investigation Department of Kabul Police vows to arrest the remaining people who played a key role in killing Farkhunda.

Since her brutal killing, the Afghans around the world have been staging rallies and protests, demanding the Afghan government to bring all the perpetrators to justice.

Kenya cracks down on Somalia financial networks
Nairobi(Sh M Network)- Kenya has suspended the licences of 13 Somali remittance firms following the attack on a college in Garissa by al-Shabab fighters killing more than 200 people.

Bashir Issa Ali, Somalia’s central bank governor, said on Wednesday that money-transfer firms in the country had been officially notified by Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) about the closure of accounts. He said the move would have a devastating impact Kenya’s Somali community, numbering just over one million people, the Reuters news agency reported.

The killing of 148 students by Somalia’s al-Shabab at Garissa, 200km from the border, has piled pressure on Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta to deal with the armed group, which has killed more than 400 people in Kenya in the last two years.

Kenyan media reported dozens of bank accounts had been frozen.

Kenya’s biggest-selling Daily Nation newspaper said on Wednesday that the government has “frozen the accounts of 86 individuals and entities suspected to be financing terrorism in the country”, including Somali remittance firms.

“It’s going to hurt Somalis in Kenya more than Somalis in Somalia. The amount of money sent from abroad to Kenya is huge,” Ali said, pointing out that many Somalis in Kenya rely on relatives abroad for basics including school fees.
There's an obvious solution, based on an understanding of root core cause and effect. Rat out your crazy cousins and keep them from killing innocents.

Bounties on heads of top Al Shabaab officials
MOGADISHU, Somalia -- Federal Government of Somalia has placed over a million USD bounty on the heads of top Al Shabaab officials on Thursday, Garowe Online reports.
It's one thing to offer a bounty...
During a weekly cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke, the council of ministers initially debated a new reward for anybody who gives a tip-off to intelligence services.

Among the 11 most wanted terror officials is new Al Shabaab Chief Ahmed Dirie (Abu Ubayda) on whom the government placed USD 250,000 bounty.

Amounts ranging from 150,000 to 100,000 were also announced for the heads of Deputy Al Shabaab leader Mahad Warsame Qalay (Mahad Karate) and 9 others including the commander of Al Shabaab militants in Galgala Yasin Osman (Kilwe) and Garrisa university attack mastermind Mohamed Mohamud (Dulyadayn-Kunno) respectively.

Meanwhile, cabinet meeting touched on the closure by Kenyan government of Somali remittance companies, and assets freeze imposed on figures suspected to be funding Al Shabaab activities.

Somalia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Abdisalam Omar Hadli is said in a press statement to have started holding talks with Kenyan officials about the new decision to cease the operations of remittance firms.
An Nahar adds:
Other nations have also issued rewards for information on Shabaab commanders, with Washington offering cash rewards of up to $5 million including for three Shabaab commanders.

Kenya has offered $215,000 for alleged Shabaab commander Mohammed Mohamud, a former Kenyan teacher believed to now be in Somalia and said to be the criminal mastermind behind the Garissa attack.

Trader who 'hosted' Fazul Abdullah barred men from home
[Daily Nation (Kenya)] A witness testifying in a case against a businessman and his son accused of hosting slain Al Qaeda leader Fazul Abdullah on Friday said no man was allowed in the trader's house.

Ms Neema Juma said the businessman, Mr Mahfudh Ashur Hemed, who has been charged alongside his son Ibrahim Ashur, never allowed men inside his house in order to protect his family.

She told Mombasa Chief Magistrate Maxwell Gicheru that the reason for the accused's action was also in accordance to religious teachings.

The defence witness told the court that she worked for the accused as a house help for over ten years until 2005.

The witness who was being led in her evidence by defence lawyer Abdalla Mazrui said she used to visit the family even after quitting her job.

Upon cross examination by prosecutor Dominic Mate, the witness said she was also tossed in the calaboose at the house and taken to Malindi Police Station before being released.

The witness further said that she did not know what happened in the house at night.

HOSTED TERRORIST

The father and son are alleged to have hosted Fazul on unknown dates between December 2007 and August 2, 2008.

Another defence witness, Eric Howai, told the court that the accused have been his neighbours for almost ten years.

Mr Howai also told the court that he had not seen any male visitor entering the house without the owner, Mr Hemed.

"He (Mr Hemed) did not have a guest room, the was no place to host a visitor," said Mr Howai, adding that he heard that the accused and his son were incarcerated
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
because of hosting someone.

Upon cross examination by another defence lawyer Jared Magolo, the witness said there was no way there could be a visitor in the house without his knowledge.

The witness, who told the court that he was a contractor, said he could not explain what went on inside the house throughout the day

The court declined to allow an application by the defense to call one more witness to clarify some religious issues, saying it was not necessary.

Thirty seven prosecution witnesses, six of them are from the United States, have already testified.

Other charges facing Mr Hemed and Mr Ashur are that they were an accessory to the fact after murder, where it was alleged that as well knowing that Fazul Abdullah who was the head of Al Qaeda's operations in East Africa, they harboured, assisted and maintained him in order to enable him escape punishment.

Claims of extortion at Ras Jedir border crossing
[Libya Herald] Some Libyans are being forced to pay bribes to cross the border into Tunisia at Ras Jedir, according to several travellers who have experienced problems at the western border post this week.

One woman was told her car's paperwork was incorrect and was ordered to pay LD 500 to Libyan border guards to be able to drive out of the country. After the ordeal, she described spending five hours negotiating with the men, whom she said were masked and armed, before eventually being allowed to pass through.

Other Libyans say they have been targeted depending on their hometown in Libya. Mohammed, from Derna, told the Libya Herald he was stopped for two hours and quizzed. Not wanting to wait any longer for what threatened to be lengthy verification processes for his documents, he paid LD 150 -- after negotiating the price down -- to get his passport stamped and proceed towards Tunisian passport control.

A Benghazi resident, Muftah, said he was detained at the border by what he described as a militia, and pressurised into paying LD 200. Ghat Hospital in danger of shutting down for lack of resources
[Libya Herald] The Ghat Hospital is suffering from a severe lack of resources and if it does not get the fuel and medical supplies it needs to keep operating, it could be forced to close down.

According to hospital director Rasul Mohammed Mubarak, not only are supplies, such as medical equipment and fuel, not readily available, traffic at the hospital has dramatically increased in recent months.

"Eighty-five percent of Obari residents have fled, and many of them have come to Ghat. We're serving a much larger population now," Mubarak explained.

Mubarak said that the hospital's supply of medicines is sufficient at present, but that the fuel shortages have been particularly hard on the hospital.

"We are not able to run our generators without fuel. Without the generators, we can't run dialysis machines and other medical equipment. We're also not able to launder bed sheets and other linens necessary to keep the conditions at the hospital sanitary," Mubark said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shouting match, Bart was wondering if fisticuffs would be appropriate at this point...
the hospital is also in need of more doctors and space to meet the demand. Obari Teaching Hospital has sent some staff to Ghat, but just the same, the hospital is looking for ways to diffuse the demand on-site.

"We are encouraging patients to seek treatment at local clinics whenever possible to cut down on crowding at the hospital. The problem is that many residents only trust the big hospital, even for minor issues," Mubarak said.

Arabia
Saudi scholar nails Houthi lies
[ARABNEWS] A well-known Saudi scholar and television host has slammed the Houthis for claiming that they are winning the war against the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.

"They're lying. They've claimed that they have the upper hand in the fight against the Saudi-led coalition but this is not true," said Mohsin Sheikh Al-Hassan, an author and host of the program Jobs on Air.

His comments came in the wake of the Defense Ministry revealing on Thursday that the former Yemeni president, President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...
, and his followers have been claiming that they are winning the war. Brig. Gen. Ahmad Al-Assiri, consultant in the office of the defense minister, said this was a lie.

Al-Hassan said: "For instance they've also claimed that the United Arab Emirates has backed out of the coalition which is not true. The only Gulf Cooperation Council country not part of the coalition is Oman."

He said Oman is not involved in the campaign because Sultan Qaboos bin Said has just returned to the country from medical treatment abroad and is still recovering.

"It was expected that the attention would be on his recovery instead of the country's involvement in the coalition's campaign to restore the legitimate government of President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi."

Al-Hassan said the Houthis are also trying to create the impression that the coalition's air attacks have killed women and kiddies. "This is also not true. They're the ones behind the killings. They're the type of people who will kill and then visit the grave of that person and cry," he said.

Al-Hassan accused Iran of supporting the Houthis' propaganda, and providing them arms and other support because of their expansionist objectives in the region.

"Iran wants to oust the legitimate government of President Hadi so that it can spread the Persian language," Al-Hassan said. Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. has led Operation Decisive Storm because Hadi called on the country for the operation, which is backed by many countries, he said.

Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. is a land of Islamic faith and wisdom, said Imam and khatib at Makkah's Grand Mosque Sheikh Saud Al-Shoraim on Friday.

"When the forces of the land of the two holy mosques launched Decisive Storm, their fury was rooted in wisdom, sagacity and patience," Sheikh Shoraim said in the weekly sermon.

"The discerning society does not differentiate between internal and external enemies. Defensive moves against enemies are of the most obligatory duties of the rulers and people. Envious people and hate mongers will only dispute the steps taken to ensure security. It is a blessing that a community is spared from a war and it calls for gratitude to Allah because it is a special mercy," Al-Shoraim said.

He added that the Ahl Al-Sunna Wal Jamaah (the Moslems) believe in appointing a leader who takes care of their rights and protects their religion, and defends them from their enemies.

He said Decisive Storm basically aims to protect the land of the two holy mosques from the enemies of Islam and also the people of the country where the mosques belong. He added that enemies also aim to destroy the real Islamic belief, values and sacred symbols.

"There are some people who do not want Decisive Storm to succeed, either because of their envy or hatred."

Meanwhile,
...back at the wrecked scow, a single surviver held tightly to the smashed prow...
at the Prophet's Mosque, imam and khatib Sheikh Abdul Bari Al-Thobaity said that the strength of Shariah is that it is a tool to bring justice, and not a goal in itself, while it boosts the pillars of peace.

"Decisive Storm is an expression of the hopes of Yemenis and was launched in response to their request for help," Al-Thobaity said in his sermon.

The imam added that history has shown that decisiveness is the mark of unique leaders especially against a treacherous people. He pointed out that within the decision to launch Decisive Storm as an operation to support the principles of Islam and justice in Yemen, Arab leaders are following the model of the last Prophet (peace be upon him), who demolished the Mosque of Sedition, which served as a den for the plotters against Islam.

The sheikh also lauded the decisiveness displayed by King of the Arabians, Sheikh of the Burning Sands, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman
...either the largest species of Pacific salmon or the current Sheikh of the Burnin' Sands, Cutodian of the Two Holy Mosquesand Lord of Most of the Arabians....
in launching Decisive Storm to support Islam and elevate the word of the Moslems, and to establish the rights of the Moslems in Yemen when a group of people started spreading bidaa (prohibited innovations in religious matters) and undertaking misleading acts by rebelling against their ruler and killing people, and destroying mosques and homes under false slogans.

Storm deals a 'decisive' blow to Houthi menace
[ARABNEWS] Pakistain's non-participation in Operation Decisive Storm against the Iran-backed Houthi

will not affect the coalition's work, the Defense Ministry said on Friday.

The Pak government had not yet announced its official position, said Brig. Gen. Ahmad Al-Assiri, consultant in the office of the defense minister, in his daily media briefing at Riyadh Air Base.

Pakistain earlier expressed "unequivocal support for the Kingdom of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
" and promised to "stand shoulder to shoulder with Saudi Arabia and its people" if Saudi territory were violated.

The country's Parliament adopted a draft resolution calling on all sides to resolve their differences peacefully in a "deteriorating security and humanitarian situation" which has "implications for peace and stability of the region."

It said: "Parliament desires that Pakistain should maintain neutrality in the Yemen conflict so as to be able to play a proactive diplomatic role to end the crisis."

Al-Assiri said Pakistain would add value to the operation. However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them...
the coalition currently has the capacity and trained personnel to do the job if the country does not participate.

"Pakistain's participation is in the interest of the Yemeni people and the operation but there are other forces already with the coalition that are well trained for the terrain," he said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the chili cook-off, Chuck reached for the green sauce...
coalition Arclight airstrikes have caused significant damage to the Houthis' food, arms and fuel depots, and their communications network, Al-Assiri said, adding that the allies have been destroying ballistic and air defense missiles, and other ammunition stores.

"We are focusing on places where the enemy has been gathering, their supplies and communications. The air forces have shelled the Houthis in Saada, Emran, Shabwah Ma'rib and Sana'a," said Al-Assiri.

The coalition's forces have also been monitoring the Saudi-Yemeni border, and have targeted movement of rebels there, he said. "Air operations are continuing and there is a systematic operation now focused on supporting Popular Committees and elements on the ground loyal to the legitimate government," he said.

The coalition has bombed a stadium in Aden used by the Houthis to store ammunition, and which had tunnels to transport arms and food supplies, Al-Assiri disclosed.

"The Houthis are now taking refuge in various civilian structures including public schools and sports complexes because they are on the run. We will target them wherever they are," he said. The purpose is not to intentionally damage the country's infrastructure, but target these facilities once they are used by the Houthis for military purposes.

He said the Houthis have caused the shortage of fuel in Yemen for the population by targeting distribution routes, as reported by various media outlets.

by air and sea.

Johannes Van Der Klaauw, U.N. humanitarian coordinator for Yemen, says basic services are collapsing and people are facing a crisis of unprecedented proportions as Arclight airstrikes and other armed actions have spread to 15 of the country's 22 governorates.

The world deliberative body says millions of people are at risk of physical injury or death because of the fighting and the lack of basic services, including health care, safe water and food.

The World Health Organization reports 648 people have been killed and 2,191 maimed. The WHO also warned of measles, meningitis and typhoid outbreaks.

Yemen conflict: Planes fly in much-needed relief supplies
[BBC] Two planes carrying much-needed relief supplies have arrived in the Yemeni capital Sanaa.

The aircraft have brought in medical equipment and food and water supplies from the Red Thingy and the UN children's fund (Unicef).

The UN has warned that basic services are unravelling in Yemen, with widespread food and fuel shortages.

Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. 'Humanitarian pause'

The International Committee of the Red Thingy (ICRC) said its plane landed in Sanaa carrying 16 tonnes of medical aid, including drugs and surgical equipment.

Unicef's plane has flown in the same amount of aid - bringing food supplements for 20,000 children as well as medical supplies.

"The supplies we have managed to bring in today can make the difference between life and death for children and their families," said Unicef's Julien Harneis

France Denies TV5Monde Cyberjihadists Leaked Defense Docs

cyberjihadists that they had posted classified army documents online when they hacked into a major television channel.

The bully boyz shut down transmissions at TV5Monde from late Wednesday to Thursday and hijacked its website and social networks, posting documents on its Facebook page purporting to be the ID cards and CVs of relatives of French soldiers involved in anti-IS operations.

But the ministry denied this on Friday after "thorough examination" of the "supposedly confidential" documents.

"None of these documents mention the identity of French soldiers or of their families," it said in a statement.

"The defense ministry categorically denies that those who attacked TV5Monde's broadcasting capabilities published defense-related confidential documents."

The cyberjihadists were able to black out the 11 channels of TV5Monde for several hours, and the station was then forced to broadcast pre-recorded programs for most of Thursday until it resumed full operations around 6 pm local time.

Arrested Spain Jihadists Suspected of Planning Kidnaps, Execution

group planned possible kidnappings, an execution and attacks on Jewish shops and public buildings in Spain, an investigating judge said Friday.

Judges in Madrid questioned the 11 suspects, including a woman and a 17-year-old, who were placed in durance vile

on Wednesday in Spain's northeastern Catalonia region.

Ten of were accused of belonging to the Islamic Brotherhood for Preaching Jihad, a group in Spain suspected of recruiting members for the IS insurgency, the National Court in Madrid said on Friday. An eleventh suspect was accused of possessing arms and explosives, Judge Santiago Pedraz said in a written ruling.

"They were considering abducting a person in Spain, dressing them in an orange overall in the style of the group known as Islamic State, interrogating them and cutting their throat in order to broadcast it" by video, a source in the investigation told AFP. The IS has frequently broadcast footage showing their execution victims wearing orange suits of the same style given to prisoners at the controversial U.S. military prison in Guantanamo Bay.

Gang members had also discussed "abducting the director of a bank branch" for ransom, the source added.

The court remanded in jug seven of the suspects on terrorism charges, and released three others pending further proceedings. After a separate hearing another judge sent the 17-year-old to a juvenile detention center, a court source added.

Officials said on Wednesday that five of the suspects were Moroccans, five Spanish and one Paraguayan. They said the cell had already sent at least four recruits to Syria and Iraq, where the IS declared a "caliphate" last year.

A source in the investigation said the suspects appeared to have been radicalized "very quickly."

Police investigations revealed that the suspected cell founder, Antonio Saez Martinez -- dubbed "Ali the Hairdresser" -- told other members he came close to launching an attack on a Jewish bookshop in Barcelona, Judge Pedraz wrote. He allegedly proposed attacks with guns and grenades against synagogues, security forces and the Catalan regional parliament. Police found on his mobile phone photographs of potential targets for attacks in Barcelona such as a hotel, a cop shoppe and a shopping center, the ruling said.

The judge said another of the suspects was a "neo-Nazi" who was caught with a hand grenade, knives, guns and ammunition, while another had material that could be used to make bombs.

Spain stepped up counterterrorism operations after jihadist attacks killed 17 people in Gay Paree in January. Spanish authorities have arrested around 40 suspected jihadists so far this year -- five more than in the whole of 2014.
Ynet adds:
The suspects, mostly from the city of Terrassa about a 30-minute drive from Barcelona, had formed a group they called "Islamic Brotherhood for Jihad Predication" that was linked ideologically to the Islamic State group, the report said.

India-Pakistan
India sparks anger with 'Israel-style' settlement policy in disputed Kashmir
[Jpost] India's nationalist government plans to resettle tens of thousands of Hindus in three new townships in Muslim-dominated Kashmir, setting up a confrontation with separatists who say it is an Israel-style policy of creating settlements in occupied territory.
Ah. The Hinjoo accusation. The Muslims in that part of the worls are awfully fond of that locution, being as it's almost as clever as the juices.
Many Kashmiri Hindus, or Pandits, also say they are not in favor of the plan.
The answer to that will lie in how many Pandits sign up to move in.
Between 200,000 to 300,000 Hindus are estimated to have fled Kashmir after an armed revolt against New Delhi's rule erupted in 1989 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has long vowed to return them to their homes.

India condemns release of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi
[DAWN] India condemned Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi
...an asset of the Pak govt and a big turban in Lashkar-e-Taiba, which is actually a redundant statement. Zak was the criminal mastermind behind the 2008 Mumbai attack. Despite what India's provided there is not enough evidence in this world for a Pak court to convict him or even to keep him in the calaboose for very long...
's release deeming it an "insult" to the victims of the 26/11 Mumbai attack.

“This is a very disappointing announcement. An insult to the victims of 26/11 Mumbai attack. The global community should take serious note of Pakistan's double-speak on terrorism,” said an Indian home ministry spokesperson who asked not to be named.

Pakistan annuls India's criticism
Pakistan, while reacting to Indian remarks over Lakhvi’s release, said it would not be proper to cast aspersions on Pakistan’s commitment to countering terrorism at a time when Pakistan has entered a critical stage of defeating the menace of terrorism.

Answering the concerns of Indian ministry spokesman, Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasneem Alsam reminded India that the case of Mumbai attack suspects is subjudice.

She said “inordinate delay in extending cooperation by India complicated the case and weakened the prosecution”. "We respect the judicial process and are confident that it would serve the interest of justice," she said.

Lakhvi is among the seven persons charged with planning and helping carry out the 2008 Mumbai attacks. The six other men facing trial in Adiala Jail for their alleged involvement in Mumbai attacks are Hammad Amin Sadiq, Shahid Jamil Riaz, Younas Anjum, Jamil Ahmed, Mazhar Iqbal and Abdul Majid.

At the time of the attacks, Lakhvi was believed to be the operational head of the banned Laskhar-i-Taiba (LT) that has been accused by India of carrying out the attacks in India's financial capital.

Lakhvi along with Zarar Shah was allegedly the key planner of the attack that killed 166 people.

US slams Pakistan on freeing Mumbai attacks 'mastermind'
[The News (Pak)] The United States on Friday denounced the decision by Pak authorities to free the alleged criminal mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi
...an asset of the Pak govt and a big turban in Lashkar-e-Taiba, which is actually a redundant statement. Zak was the criminal mastermind behind the 2008 Mumbai attack. Despite what India's provided there is not enough evidence in this world for a Pak court to convict him or even to keep him in the calaboose for very long...
, on bail.

State Department front man Jeff Rathke said Washington was "gravely concerned" and had "communicated that concern to senior Pak officials over the course of many months and as recently as yesterday."

"Terrorist attacks are an insult on the collective safety and security of all countries," Rathke added.

Earlier, a Pak prison official confirmed that Lakhvi -- wanted by India for his alleged leading role in a three-day onslaught on civilian targets in Mumbai that left 166 dead -- had been released.

A judge first granted him bail in December. Pakistain´s government responded with a series of detention orders, but judges repeatedly cancelled them.

Then, on Thursday, the Lahore High Court ordered his release, conditional on a two million rupee ($20,000) bond.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Khameini: 'No deal is better than a bad deal'
[Jewish Press] The man the Iranians refer to as their "Supreme Leader" told the world on Thursday, April 9, that whatever terms were discussed at Lausanne by negotiators from the U.S., U.K., France, Russia, China and Germany, with Iran are "non-binding."

Ayatollah Ali Khameini spoke on television as part of Iran's National Day of Nuclear Technology. The two points Khameini addressed head-on and emphasized as essential from his perspective are ones on which the West cannot give ground over: first, the immediate lifting of international sanctions imposed because of Iran's nuclear activity as soon as a deal is reached, and second, the barring of access by any international monitoring personnel to any Iranian military facilities.

Both of those points are flatly contradicted by what the U.S. has confirmed were agreements reached in the Lausanne parameters.

According to the ironclad U.S. position, sanctions on Iran will only be lifted when that country can prove it is in compliance with its nuclear commitments. Sanctions will not be lifted simply on the date an agreement is reached, which Khameini claims is an essential component of any deal.

The Iranian cleric described the U.S. description of agreements reached at Lausanne as "wrong on most of the issues," and claimed it "distorted reality."

"All sanctions should be removed just when the deal is reached. If sanctions removal depends on another process, then why did we start to talk?" he asked.

Khameini's insistence was echoed by Hassan Rouhani, Iran's president: "We will not sign any agreements unless, on the first day of the implementation of the deal, all economic sanctions are totally lifted on the same day," he said.

The U.S. has said that under the framework understanding recently reached, the Iranians have to address the International Atomic Energy Agency's concerns about possible military dimensions of its nuclear program.

But Khameini was adamant that international inspectors will not be permitted to inspect and monitor Iran's military bases.

""Iran's military sites cannot be inspected under the excuse of nuclear supervision," Khameini said.

The Ayatollah has been much more circumspect about the nuclear deal than have, for example, the Americans. The Champ regime has been lobbying Congress very hard about the importance of the deal, while the Iranians have been cautious in their descriptions.

Khameini has commandeered a refrain uttered repeatedly by U.S. President Champ, mostly to quell the concerns of his harshest critics, "no deal is better than a bad deal."

When the Iranian cleric says "no deal is better than a bad deal," however, it sounds more like a warning that his team will walk away unless their demands are met.

"It is not even clear whether the talks will bear fruit and lead to an agreement ... But I will welcome a deal that preserves the honour of the Iranian people and we always say that no deal is better than a bad deal."
