Pilot in Deadly California House Crash Had Been Disciplined by FAA
Smell getting stronger on this one.
LOS ANGELES (AP) ‐ THE pilot whose plane broke apart and crashed into a Southern California home, killing five people, was disciplined for dangerous flying years earlier, it was reported Friday.

Antonio Pastini, 75, of Gardnerville, Nevada, was flying home after visiting his daughter and granddaughter on Sunday when his Cessna began coming apart and debris slammed into a Yorba Linda home, which caught fire. Four people inside the house died.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Years earlier, Pastini, then using the name Jordan Albert Isaacson, had his license twice suspended by the Federal Aviation Administration, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday, citing records kept by the Library of Congress.

In 1977, Pastini had his pilot's license suspended for 120 days after he flew from Las Vegas to Long Beach, California, in cloudy and icy weather and falsely told an air traffic controller that he had "IFR clearance" that indicated he was capable of flying the route with instruments.

Pastini disregarded airspace rules and posed "a potential threat to himself, his passenger and other users of the system," wrote an administrative law judge, Jerrell R. Davis.

In 1980, Pastini lost his license for 30 days after Davis found that his plane was behind on inspections, carried only an expired temporary registration and was "unairworthy" because of a hydraulic fluid leak from a break and other problems, the Times said.
So someone had at least inspected the aircraft and spotted the drip pans ?
The Times said the FAA confirmed that Isaacson was Pastini. The agency said he submitted two name changes to the FAA: first in 1991 from Jordan Albert Isaacson to Jordan Ike Aaron, then in 2008 to Antonio Peter Pastini.

Pastini told friends, family and even newspapers that he was a retired Chicago police officer.
Smell very strong in the next para.
But Chicago police have said he never worked for them and a Chicago police badge he was carrying when he crashed had been reported lost in 1978.

#1  Curious, no mention of any FAA follow-up.

Could be nothing, but is there enough of that airplane left to put a dope dog on it? How about the Pastini-Isaacson-Aaron car or garage ?

Or perhaps he was just a careless old man who didn't care much for aviation maintenance or neighborhood Superbowl parties.

#2  The airplane had a leaking break. God forbid it might also have a leaking brake. Two completely different meanings. Can't anyone write English anymore? Maybe I'm just too old and cranky.

Lyft driver charged with kidnapping, raping intoxicated female passenger
[NYPOST] A Lyft driver in Louisiana kidnapped and raped an intoxicated female passenger at his apartment last month, authorities said.

Jefferson Gay Pareeh Sheriff Joseph Lopinto said the 43-year-old victim told police in New Orleans that a driver later identified as Yusef Hamed,
...interesting name. Where is it from?
30, picked her up after a night of drinking on Jan. 23. A friend of the woman had earlier called for a ride on her behalf because she was "fairly intoxicated," Lopinto told news hounds Thursday.

But instead of taking the woman to her home just several blocks away, Hamed drove her to his apartment in Harvey, where he asked the woman to come inside. She accepted the invitation and Hamed proceeded to remove her clothing inside the residence before raping her vaginally and anally. He then returned to the Bywater section of New Orleans and dropped the woman off, Lopinto said.
How long has he been in America? What connection does he have to his particular ancestors’ Ould Sod?
At some point during the ride, Hamed disconnected the fare, signaling to the woman’s friend that the trip was over and that she presumably had arrived home safely, according to the sheriff.

"Most people are going to be able to get home [when using ride-hailing apps like Lyft] but it goes to show that we have sick people in this world," Lopinto told news hounds.

The woman reported the alleged rape to New Orleans police the following day, prompting a rape kit to be performed. Due to her state of intoxication, the woman was initially unsure of exactly where the sexual assault occurred, but Sherlocks later determined with the help of Lyft representatives that the rape took place in Jefferson Gay Pareeh, authorities said.

Hamed, who has no known prior criminal history, remained held on $400,000 bond at the Jefferson Gay Pareeh Correctional as of Friday, jail records show.

Lopinto also noted that Hamed claimed that he had consensual sex with the woman, claiming that she had acted in a "childish" manner and admitted to him that she was intoxicated. But Lopinto dismissed that claim, saying that an impaired person cannot provide consent to sexual activity.

Five suspects, ages 12 to 16, busted in fatal shooting of Nashville musician Kyle Yorlets

[NYDAILYNEWS] Five teens ‐ including one as young as 12 ‐ were enjugged
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
in the shooting death and robbery of 24-year-old singer Kyle Yorlets in Tennessee.

Metropolitan Nashville Police identified three of the teens in a Friday news release as Roniyah McKnight, 14, Diamond Lewis, 15, and Decorrius Wright, 16.

The other juveniles are a 12-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy. Tennessee law prohibits the identification of suspects under age 13.

Yorlets, a Pennsylvania native and Belmont University graduate, was shot outside his Nashville home Thursday afternoon.

Investigators believe Yorlets was shot after refusing to hand over his car keys to the teens, who had already taken his wallet.

He made it back inside after he was shot, where one of his housemates found him ‐ and was later pronounced dead at Vanderbilt University Medical center.

The teens’ getaway vehicle was a stolen red Chevrolet Colorado pick-up truck and was later abandoned.

Two stolen pistols were found at the time of the arrest. The vehicle was also recovered.

All five teens will charged with criminal homicide.

Wedding descends into brawl after groom hits on teen waitress
[NYPOST] A Pennsylvania couple’s wedding ended in a drunken brawl after the groom hit on an underage waitress ‐ then followed the teen into a bathroom stall and groped her, according to prosecutors.

Matthew Aimers, 31, was charged Wednesday in connection to the nightmare nuptials Nov. 24 at a country club in Northampton Valley, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Court documents detail a wedding from hell in which the groom left in handcuffs. The newlywed now faces numerous charges, including indecent assault, imprisonment of a minor and disorderly conduct.

During the reception, Aimers allegedly hit on a teen waitress and "asked her to go outside and make out," according to an affidavit.

The groom propositioned the teen by saying they could do "whatever you want," she told police, adding that the experience had left her shaken.

The waitress said she rejected him. But he later followed her into the women’s bathroom, pulling her into a stall, where he allegedly groped her and exposed himself.

Police later responded to reports of a fight at the country club and found the groom "pushing and punching people."

Aimers allegedly called officers derogatory names and tried to provoke a fight when they arrived on the scene.

A brief struggle ensued before police took Aimers into custody, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Crowd cheers as two pedophiles are executed in Yemen
[NYPOST] Chilling photographs captured the moment two pedophiles were executed in front of a large crowd in Yemen’s port city of Aden for raping and murdering a 12-year-old boy.

Wadah Refat, 28, and Mohammed Khaled, 31, were convicted by a court of abducting Mohammed Saad, dragging him into one of their homes and sexually assaulting him in May 2018, the UK’s Daily Star reported.

"After the rape, they could not silence the cries of the child who begged for help, one of them grabbed a knife and cracked his neck," the sentencing judge said.

A 33-year-old female relative of one of the accomplices also was sentenced to death for helping to dismember the child’s body, but her public execution was postponed because she is pregnant, according to The Mirror.

After being marched at gunpoint to the execution site, the two brutes were offered some water by a doctor before they were ordered to lie face-down on a blanket.

Two men then stood over them, pointed AK-47s at their backs and opened fire as a large throng cheered in the background.

Sarah Leah Whitson, director of Human Rights Watch, condemned the executions.

"Public execution is an even more grotesque violation of human rights
When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
, particularly in a country where the ability of the accused to obtain adequate legal representation and the coverage of the process is highly limited," she told El Mundo.

Rape and murder appear to be generally acceptable in that culture. Homosexuality (thought by many to be an intrinsic part of pedophilia) is not.

With regard to the... "two brutes", I'm going with homosexuality. Note, no mention made of LGBT in the Post story. The female relative by the way, was not executed.

US-backed aid package filled with ‘poison of humiliation’ -- Maduro

rejected attempts by the opposition to bring US-backed aid into the country. He made the remarks during a presser in Caracas on Friday.

"And it tries to cover up what is the biggest crime that is committed, the crime of stealing resources through the blockade and the sanctions of the United States government on Venezuela," he stated.

Maduro said that if the Trump administration wants to help the Venezuelan people, it should remove the blockade and the sanctions against Caracas.

Amazon exploring potential alternatives to New York HQ: source
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Amazon.com Inc is exploring alternatives to locating part of its new headquarters in New York in case the plan should fail due to local opposition, a person briefed on the matter told Reuters on Friday.

The online retailer has not yet acquired any land for the project, which would make it easy to scrap its plans, the source said. The Washington Post reported the story earlier on Friday.

The person briefed on the matter said that Amazon was still working toward winning approval from New York officials and had not given up on the proposal, but was considering potential alternatives to New York.

Earlier, the Post, which is owned by Amazon Chief Executive Jeff Bezos, reported that Amazon executives had had internal discussions to reassess the situation in New York and explore alternatives. It cited two unnamed people familiar with the retailer’s thinking.

In a statement on Friday, Amazon said it was working to engage with New Yorkers, but did not discuss whether it would change its plans.

World's biggest intelligence headquarters opens in Berlin
[Guardian] New home for Germany’s Federal Intelligence Service took 12 years and €1bn to build

No mobile phones. No private laptops. No checking personal emails or social media. And at the end of the day, all access cards must be locked in a safe.

More than €1bn (£870m) and 12 years after construction began, Germany’s Federal Intelligence Service (BND) has officially opened its new Berlin home, the world’s biggest intelligence headquarters with a footprint the size of 36 football pitches.

The building, close to the route of the former Berlin Wall, is one of Germany’s most secretive spaces, with strict security rules governing what employees there can and cannot do.

Angela Merkel visited the headquarters on Friday and spoke of the BND’s history and the important role it plays. "In an often very confusing world," the chancellor said, "now, more urgently than ever, Germany needs a strong and efficient foreign intelligence service."

ICE agents in North Carolina arrest hundreds of illegal immigrants
[NY Post] Hundreds of immigrants in the U.S. illegally were arrested this week in North Carolina after some local law agencies stopped cooperating with immigration enforcement, a federal official said Friday.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement regional director Sean Gallagher said the arrests resulted from what he termed "the dangerous policies of not cooperating with ICE," The Charlotte Observer reported.

"This is politics over public safety at its worst," Gallagher said at a news conference. It's a change, he said, that gave the agency "no choice" but to conduct targeted enforcement operations like the one this week.

ICE officers have detained 200 people in North Carolina this week. Another 25 were detained at an arms manufacturer in Sanford. Gallagher said more such arrests are likely when ICE is restricted from accessing county jails.

"If they're in the wrong place at the wrong time, my officers will take an enforcement action," he said.

Since December, new sheriffs in Mecklenburg and Wake counties have reversed a policy that notifies ICE about the legal status of inmates in county jails. The Durham County Sheriff's Office also ended the practice of honoring ICE detainers.

Charlotte City Council member Braxton Winston said he was threatened with arrest for trying to enter the building without media credentials during the news conference at the Department of Homeland Security office in Charlotte.

Speaking to reporters and activists outside the office, Winston said he was told by ICE official Robert Alfieri that the arrests represent a "new normal" because Mecklenburg County's new sheriff, Garry McFadden, is not cooperating with federal immigration enforcement.

Ramsha’s ‘killer’ evaded arrest for 20 years before police dared to lay hands on him
[DAWN] HYDERABAD: The influential Wassan community of Khairpur district, perhaps for the first time, is facing a police action against one of its members in the wake of the murder of a 13-year-old girl, Ramsha Wassan, a week ago.

How much clout the Wassans of Khairpur have been wielding could be gauged from the fact that the Khairpur police have never dared to touch the alleged killer, Zulfikar alias Zulfoo Wassan, though he had been nominated in some 20 cases of heinous crime registered against him over the last two decades.

Police sources said that until before Ramsha’s murder, Zulfoo was declared a proclaimed offender and had been in hiding with the help of some policemen.

According to MPA Munawwar Wassan, Ramsha had eloped with Izhar Wassan, who was already married and wanted to marry her but Ramsha’s family had turned down his proposal. “A village elder brought Ramsha back to her house to settle the issue but then Zulfoo murdered her,” the MPA said.
The FIR of Ramsha’s murder was registered on behalf of the state and he and one of his associates, Ghaffar Wassan, have been arrested. Another two suspects are yet to be arrested on abetment charge.

Around one dozen suspects have been picked up by police in the murder case. Police have demolished three places — one said to be belonging to Zulfoo on his agricultural land, another one in the Haji Nawab Wassan area of Kot Diji and a third one in Kumb town — to force Zulfoo and his alleged associates in the crime to surrender before the police.

Ramsha’s mother had named Zulfoo and Ghaffar as the alleged killers. “Zulfoo is the prime suspect as he fired a burst to kill Ramsha in her house; she received nine bullets,” said Khairpur SSP Umer Tufail over phone.

Zulfoo was alleged to be a relative of those Wassans who are sitting in the elected houses but Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MPA from Khairpur Munawwar Wassan rejected the claim. “He is just our caste fellow ... our opponents are linking him with us. The slain girl also belongs to our community,” he argued in his defence.

“Police were going to demolish Zulfoo’s shops as well. They had also picked up some women belonging to Zulfoo’s family,” said a source.

“In view of mounting pressure, the Wassans also cooperated with the police when the latter conducted a hunt for the suspects in their villages in Khairpur.

One of the detained suspects, Imtiaz Wassan, is cook of Fida Wassan, the brother of former provincial minister, Manzoor Wassan. Ramsha’s father, Pervez Wassan, is also a cook and serves an elder Wassan at his Karachi residence.

Police succeeded in arresting Zulfoo by tracing his location with the help of his mobile phone data. He was found in Sorah, a desert area of Khairpur district bordering Sanghar.

According to the police, Zulfoo carried a head money of Rs500,000 as notified in April 2011 but he later obtained bail in several cases registered against him and eventually the notification was withdrawn.

Iraq
Iraq to unify customs fees, lift customs points with Kurdistan this month
Post-war normalization proceeds apace, thank goodness.
[Rudaw] Iraq announced it will start implementing a decree by the prime minister to unify customs fees between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq and to lift Erbil-Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
Erbil-Nineveh, and Sulaimani-Kirkuk’s Iraqi customs points.

"The General Federal Board of Customs and Kurdistan Region’s Customs [Directorate] will start implementing the decision [No. 13 of the Year 2019] on Sunday, February 17," said Iraq’s General Board of Customs in a statement on Friday.

This is an "important step" in organization of trade, imports and exports, the board added.

The decision stipulates the unification of customs fees at crossings between Kurdistan Region provinces and others in Iraq, and at Sulaimani and Erbil’s airports, and issuing customs clearance forms in Kurdish and Arabic.

All customs points, in the Kurdistan Region and the rest of Iraq, also have to "commit" to decisions issued by the Iraqi Council of Ministers "related to protection of national products and the agricultural calendar."

Also authorities must heed international treaties signed by Iraq, including those for customs fee exemptions.

The decision also includes the lifting of the Fayda customs point between Duhok and djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, Shirawa-Northern Kirkuk customs point and Laylan-Eastern Kirkuk customs points.

"The decision is for supporting the private sector through achieving the principle of fairness in imposing fees and to encourage completion between companies on the bases of quality and services," added the statement.

The customs points between Iraq and the Kurdistan Region led to Kurdish businessmen having their products taxed twice, or Kurdish factories having domestically-produced products taxed by Iraq.

The disagreements mainly focused on the issue of customs fees revenue, as to whether it enters into the Iraqi treasury or the Kurdistan Region’s. Baghdad argues it is entitled to the revenues due to it paying the salary of employees and crossing points being exclusive federal authorities.

The customs points should not be confused with manned security checkpoints which are prevalent throughout the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. Many of the checkpoints are politically geared especially in more remote areas.

[Rudaw] Majid Jafar, Managing Director of the Board at DANA Gas, the biggest private sector natural gas company in the Middle East, says that "natural gas is the fuel of the 21st century and plays an important part in reducing carbon footprint as a cleaner fuel and in supplying power generation and industry."

In this exclusive interview with Rudaw, Mr. Jafar says that "The Kurdistan Region is estimated to have over 200 trillion cubic feet of gas according to the Ministry of Natural Resources," and with that it can "address local power and industry needs in Kurdistan and elsewhere in Iraq, as well as potentially for exports also.

Mr. Jafar said that "We are currently expanding capacity and carrying out and active drilling programme in both the Chamchamal and Khormor fields."
