Florida man with 'cop killer' tattoo busted for shooting at officer
[NYPOST] A Florida man with a "cop killer" tattoo across his chest was busted Sunday for firing at an officer during an attempted traffic stop.

A detective with the Florida City Police Department had commanded Virgilio Salgado, 28, to pull over Saturday morning when he opened fire on the officer from his vehicle.

A round struck the pursuing cop’s cruiser and disabled it around 4 a.m., allowing Salgado to get away, police said.

The targeted officer and other detectives collected several shell casings from the scene as evidence.

Investigators were able to identify Salgado using body camera footage from the incident and launched a search.

He was eventually located driving the same car used during the shooting and was arrested.

Salgado was held without bail and is facing felony assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm and other charges, officials said.

The officer was not injured. Police officials released a mug shot of Salgado without a shirt that showed him with the anti-cop tattoo splayed across his chest.

FBI arrests man, woman with 'extremist' views in alleged power grid attack plot targeting 5 substations
Reads like 'filler' news.
Heartiest congratulations to the FBI, who’ve caught two people who were locked up in prison, unable to act, but appear to have nothing concrete on those who actually did the deed these two emailed about.
[FoxNews] Sarah Beth Clendaniel, of Maryland, and Brandon Clint Russell, of Florida, charged out of Baltimore in alleged energy grid attack plot

The FBI and U.S. Attorney's Office officials in Baltimore announced they had arrested two individuals, a man and a woman, with extremist views who were allegedly attempting to attack the power grid in Maryland.

FBI officials told reporters they believe this was a "real threat" that had been thwarted.

Sarah Beth Clendaniel, 34, of Catonsville, Maryland, and Brandon Clint Russell, 27, of Orlando, Florida, are charged through a federal criminal complaint with conspiracy to destroy an energy facility, Erek L. Barron, U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland, and Special Agent in Charge Thomas J. Sobocinski, of the FBI Baltimore Field Office, announced Monday.

Clendaniel spoke to an FBI informant about her plan just last week, according to authorities.
Once again the FBI informant is the target’s BFF, and is told all.
Russell is an alleged neo-Nazi figure who authorities say posted locations of substations.

This plot is not related to but comes on the heels of several power grid attacks in North Carolina, Washington, and Oregon late last year.
Clendaniel allegedly told an FBI confidential source that she planned to target five substations including in Norrisville, Reisterstown and Perry Hall, according to an affidavit by Special Agent Patrick W. Straub, of the Joint Terrorism Task Force ("JTTF") in the FBI Baltimore Division.

If they hit a number of them all in the same day, they "would completely destroy this whole city," and that a "good four or five shots through the center of them … should make that happen," Clendaniel allegedly said. She further added, "[i]t would probably permanently completely lay this city to waste if we could do that successfully."

The affidavit reveals the two defendants were in separate prisons for past crimes and communicated online. In messages, Clendaniel allegedly referenced Unabomber Ted Kaczynski and Hitler. She was in a Maryland prison for robbing convenience stores with a machete. Russell was in prison for holding bomb making materials.

"This planned attack threatened lives and would have left thousands of Marylanders in the cold and dark," Barron said in a statement. "We are united and committed to using every legal means necessary to disrupt violence, including hate-fueled attacks."

"The threat posed by domestic violent extremists is evolving and persistent," Sobocinski said. "The FBI will continue to work closely with our law enforcement and private sector partners to identify and disrupt any potential threat to the safety of our citizens."

"The accused were not just talking but taking steps to fulfill their threats and further their extremist goals. Russell provided instructions and location information," Sobocinski added at a press briefing on Monday. "He described attacking the power transformers as the greatest thing somebody can do."

This plot is not related to but comes on the heels of several power grid attacks in North Carolina, Washington, and Oregon late last year.

As alleged in the affidavit, Russell conspired to carry out attacks against critical infrastructure, specifically electrical substations, in furtherance of Russell’s "racially or ethnically motivated violent extremist beliefs" from at least June 2022 to the present.

Russell allegedly posted links to open-source maps of infrastructure, which included the locations of electrical substations, and he described how a small number of attacks on substations could cause a "cascading failure," according to court documents. Russell also allegedly discussed maximizing the impact of the planned attack by hitting multiple substations at one time.

Clendaniel, in collaborating on a plan to carry out the attacks, conspired to secure a weapon and identified five substations she planned to target, according to court documents.
The Times of Israel adds:
Russell, who founded the neo-Nazi
...adherents of a philosophy that was seen even at the time as pure evil, which makes them either consciously and purely evil, or attention-seeking ratbags. Pick one, or both....
group called Atomwaffen Division, has a long history of ties to racist bad boy ideologies and past plans to disrupt American infrastructure systems, according to the complaint.

Atomwaffen Division leaders recently renamed themselves the National Socialist Order. The group’s mission is civilizational collapse, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Federal authorities said Russell, 27, landed on their radar after a 2017 shooting left two of his roommates dead. Local law enforcement officers found Russell at the scene, dressed in a military uniform and crying over the news. A third roommate, who was later arrested, told Sherlocks he committed the killings to thwart a terrorist attack by Atomwaffen, which included plans to target US infrastructure. He said Russell knew nothing about the killings, having just returned home from his Florida National Guard duties.
That explains the military uniform. Doesn't he know there's no crying in baseball neo-naziing?
Russell ultimately pleaded guilty to explosives charges after authorities found bomb-making materials in the garage. He served five years in federal prison and was on supervised release at the time of his recent arrest, officials said.

Recent attacks and threats to the US power grid have heightened concerns about protecting critical infrastructure.

In Washington state, two men were arrested last month on charges they vandalized substations in attacks that left thousands without power around Christmastime. One suspect told authorities they hoped the power outage would allow them to break into a business and steal money.

A gunfire attack in December on substations in central North Carolina also caused power outages affecting tens of thousands of customers. Law enforcement officials have said the shooting was targeted, though no arrests have been made. Lawmakers there have proposed legislation to toughen penalties for intentionally damaging utility equipment.

Russell and Clendaniel corresponded years ago while incarcerated in separate correctional facilities, authorities said. Officials declined to specify the nature of their relationship or how they met, but the complaint says they discussed having children together. Text messages linked to Russell included a statement that "going to prison was worth it because I might not have met you otherwise."

Their relationship dates to at least 2018.

Clendaniel has a long criminal history in Maryland, including a 2006 robbery conviction in Cecil County, a largely rural area about an hour northeast of Baltimore. She pleaded guilty to the charge after authorities accused her of brandishing a butcher knife and demanding money from a convenience store clerk.

Then 18, Clendaniel was pregnant at the time of her conviction. Her attorney cited mental health issues and said she was receiving methadone treatment, according to The Cecil Whig. She pleaded guilty in 2016 in connection with another robbery case.

Convicted pedophile, who raped and tortured children, found dead in prison cell awaiting sentencing
[Blaze] A convicted pedophile who allegedly raped and tortured children was found dead in a U.K. prison cell while he was awaiting sentencing for his sex crimes.

Andrew Hadwin, 39, was found guilty of three counts of rape, seven counts of neglect, and one count of perverting the course of justice in January. Hadwin's partner Cheryl Pickles, 35, was found guilty of five counts of child cruelty and one of perverting the course of justice.

Hadwin and Pickles were scheduled to be sentenced on April 28.

However, Hadwin was found dead inside his cell at the HM Prison Durham on Thursday, according to the U.K. Ministry of Justice.

The cause of the convicted pedophile's death was not immediately known.

A prison spokesperson said, "As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will investigate."

Authorities were tipped off about alleged child abuse carried out by Hadwin and Pickles in 2018 after one of the children told another adult about the disturbing torture.

Nearly 3,000 5,000 dead, over 13,500 injured in Turkiye-syria earthquake
[The Nation (Pak)] A second earthquake of at least 7.5 magnitude rocked Turkiye and neighboring Syria less than 12 hours after the border areas were hit by a quake measuring 7.8, killing more than 2,700 people, with many others missing or injured on Monday morning. The 7.8-magnitude quake struck just after 4 a.m. local time on Monday, 23 kilometerseast of Nurdagi, Gaziantep province, at a depth of 24.1 kilometers, according to data from the United States Geological Survey. Churches, hospitals and residential tower blocks are among the hundreds of buildings razed to the ground - their occupants trapped under the rubble, caught unaware by the massive quake. The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than there are in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really most important...
declared seven days of national mourning following the deadly quakes that hit the country Monday.

Ottoman Turkish flags will fly at half-staff across the nation and at its diplomatic missions overseas. The Ottoman Turkish Vice President, Fuat Oktay, said such a disaster could hit "once in a hundred years," and that his country should be prepared for the corpse count — already over 1,600 in Turkey alone — to rise. Oktay also said some 145 aftershocks were registered following the deadly quake overnight, with three that were larger than 6.0 magnitude. The corpse count across Turkey and Syria rose to at least 2,724 after a powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake. The total number of injured climbed to 13,580, based on information provided by various agencies.

Turkey has at least 11,119 injured people and Syria has 2,461 injured people following the quake. The total corpse count in Syria rose to 1,073. News agency SANA reports 593 across government-controlled areas and the "White Helmets" group, officially known as the Syria Civil Defense, reported 480 deaths in opposition-controlled areas. The total corpse count in Turkey has climbed to 1,651, according to Turkey’s Vice President Fuat Oktay.

The corpse count from a strong earthquake in south-eastern Turkey, near Syria’s border, could rise eight-fold, the World Health Organisation
...Kind of like the Center for Disease Control only run by the UN, with about the results you'd expectt...
has warned. Countries around the world are sending support to help the rescue efforts, including specialist teams, sniffer dogs and equipment. The US Geological Survey said the 7.8 magnitude tremor struck at 04:17 local time (01:17 GMT) at a depth of 17.9km (11 miles) near the city of Gaziantep. Seismologists said the first quake was one of the largest ever recorded in Turkey. Survivors said it took two minutes for the shaking to stop.

The second quake had a magnitude of 7.5, and its epicentre was in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaras province. An official from Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority said it was independent of the earlier tremor and not an aftershock. The corpse count in Turkey has exceeded 1,650, while some 1,000 are confirmed to have died in Syria. The WHO has warned that those numbers are likely to increase as much as eight times, as rescuers find more victims in the rubble. "We always see the same thing with earthquakes, unfortunately, which is that the initial reports of the numbers of people who have died or who have been injured will increase quite significantly in the week that follows," the WHO’s senior emergency officer for Europe, Catherine Smallwood, told AFP. Ms Smallwood added that the snowy conditions will leave many people without shelter, adding to the dangers.

Mt Washington was briefly in Stratosphere last week
[SmithsonianMag] As extremely cold temperatures gripped the northeastern United States and southeastern Canada over the weekend, New Hampshire's Mount Washington endured record-breaking conditions. On Friday, the wind chill at the top of the peak reached minus 108 degrees Fahrenheit, which is likely the lowest wind chill ever recorded in the history of the nation, report CNN's Ralph Ellis and Aya Elamroussi.

....on Friday, part of the next-lowest atmospheric region, the stratosphere, dipped so low that the mountain's summit and any surrounding areas above 4,000 feet in elevation were actually in that layer instead. As the atmosphere cools down, it becomes more compressed, causing the boundary between the troposphere and the stratosphere to drop.

The stratosphere is typically 4 to 12 miles above the surface of the Earth, but some of it sank to less than a mile above the surface on Friday, Terry Eliasen, a meteorologist with Boston's WBZ-TV, wrote in a tweet.

---
looking at the data, the above the stratosphere time was pretty brief, about an hour or two between 11pm Fri and 1 am Saturday -the wind direction changed from NW to W during this period and then changed back to NW

a stratosphere event like this probably has happened before but this time a chunk of the polar vortex passed over an area with an observation point

Economy
Dell slashing more than 6,500 jobs as PC market slumps
[NYPOST] Dell Technologies is cutting about 6,650 jobs, or 5% of its global workforce, as it struggles with a slump in the personal computer market and braces for a potential recession.

The move on Monday aligns Dell with a raft of companies from Goldman Sachs Group to Alphabet that have laid off thousands this year to ride out a demand downturn wrought by high inflation and rising interest rates.

Dell had already rolled out cost-cutting moves such as a hiring pause and limits on travel as it dealt with a post-pandemic collapse in PC sales, which account more than half of its revenue.

However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
those moves are "no longer enough," co-chief operating officer Jeff Clarke wrote in a memo to employees.

"What we know is market conditions continue to erode with an uncertain future," Clarke said. Dell expects to book costs related to the layoffs in its fiscal fourth quarter, which ends in January.

Great White North
General Says NORAD Missed Previous Chinese Spy Balloon Incursions During the Trump Administration
[Breitbart] Gen. Glen VanHerck, commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and Northern Command (NORTHCOM), admitted Monday that the joint U.S.-Canada organization missed previous incursions of Chinese spy balloons, including during the Trump administration.

When asked during a press briefing whether NORTHCOM was involved in tracking previous Chinese spy balloon that flew into the U.S. airspace during the Biden and Trump administrations, VanHerck responded:
So those balloons, so every day as a NORAD commander it’s my responsibility to detect threats to North America. I will tell you that we did not detect those threats. And that’s a domain awareness gap that we have to figure out. But I don’t want to go in further detail.
He indicated that the intelligence community tracked those previous balloons after the incursions through "additional means."

"The intel community, after the fact — I believe has been briefed already — assess those threats to additional means of collection from additional means and made us aware of those balloons that were previously approaching North America or transited North America," he said.

The Biden administration had revealed last week that China had sent spy balloons into U.S. airspace during the Trump administration, implying that the most recent incursion was not a new occurrence and that the Trump administration did nothing about it. However, the fact that the U.S. military did not detect the incursions that happened under the Trump administration deflated that criticism.

VanHerck’s disclosure also raised questions as to how NORAD missed the previous incursions.
Heads need to roll for:
A) Missing three previous balloon intrusions?
B) Failing to notify Trump's Admin?
C) Making up this bullshit story

"VanHerck’s disclosure also raised questions as to how NORAD missed the previous incursions."

But also "raises questions" as to why an intelligence failure, shortfall, or "Gap", would now (or at anytime) be disclosed.

Evidently Gen. VanHerck or whomever was in charge, simply failed to notify the National Command Authority of the failure.

#6  From NYPost item today on this topic:

Later, VanHerck and NSC spokesman John Kirby clarified that US intelligence agencies had used “forensics” to identify the Chinese spy craft incursions only after President Biden took office in January 2021.

The claim was denied by Trump and several of his former administration officials.

The claim was denied by Trump and several of his former administration officials.

Kirby said the Biden administration would offer classified briefings to some senior Trump officials about the three balloons and how the intelligence community determined their existence so late.

Ric Grenell, the former acting national intelligence director under Trump, told The Post Monday that he wouldn’t accept any such briefing.

“They are scrambling to justify their lack of action,” Grenell told The Post. “If they believe a bureaucrat failed to notify politicals about a national security threat, then they should demand that the DOJ prosecute the individuals for treason — if the persons even exist.”

Time for a dedicated Congressional investigation into this particular issue, perhaps appointment of a special prosecutor.

#7  Another possibility none but myself has mentioned: What if the US air defense tried & failed to down the balloon in its early hours of US airspace incursion? That would be an even bigger issue. E.g. when the military high command told Biden it was impossible to shoot the balloon down early on, that could have meant they had already tried and failed to do so.

#17  As an aside, the Bidet story that we interdicted the balloon systems from data transmission seems far-fetched at best, even if such a aerial transmission interdiction was possible absent any proximate airborne platform since none was evident. But more tellingly, if they were interdicting the transmissions from the balloon, why was Peking able to control its movements?

Government Corruption
While NYC Teachers Are Fired for Refusing Covid Mandate, Illegals Allowed in Schools with No Proof of Immunizations
[Gateway] While New York teachers, and other city and state workers, were forced off the job for not complying with the Covid vaccine mandate, illegals pour into the United States without proof of any vaccines.

Schools in NYC are forced to accept illegals without immunization records, and it may have led to one disease outbreak already.

According to The New York Post, "An estimated 11,000 migrant children have enrolled in Department of Education schools since the summer."

While the city Health Department tracks outbreaks, they have not release records on outbreaks this school year.

The New York Post reports:

The flood of migrant families into New York City is forcing schools to accept children who lack required vaccinations and has possibly led to one outbreak already.

The Simon Baruch Middle School in Gramercy Park had a chickenpox case, according to a Jan. 25 notice from the principal which said students not vaccinated for the illness could not attend school.

A parent at the school said after the announcement, five migrant children were absent for a few days from the class in question.

"When you are talking now about hundreds of children entering a school and coming from countries where we know the same childhood vaccinations are not available— it’s hard to not see where vulnerable families could be put at risk," the parent said.

A top city health official recently told the City Council that a surprising number of migrant children who had never had a single shot were arriving in the Big Apple.

Ivermectin reduces COVID death risk by 92%, peer-reviewed study finds
[Blaze] A new peer-reviewed study found that regular use of ivermectin reduced the risk of dying from COVID-19 by 92%.

The large study was conducted by Flávio A. Cadegiani, MD, MSc, PhD. Cadegiani is a board-certified endocrinologist with a master's degree and doctorate degree in clinical endocrinology.

The peer-reviewed study was published on Wednesday by the online medical journal Cureus. The study was conducted on a strictly controlled population of 88,012 people from the city of Itajaí in Brazil.

Individuals who used ivermectin as prophylaxis or took the medication before being infected by COVID experienced significant reductions in death and hospitalization.

According to the study, those who took ivermectin regularly had a 92% reduction in their COVID death risk compared to non-users and 84% less than irregular users.

"The hospitalization rate was reduced by 100% in regular users compared to both irregular users and non-users," the study stated.

The impressive reduction for regular ivermectin users was evident despite the regular users being at a higher risk for COVID deaths. The regular users were older and had a higher prevalence of type 2 diabetes and hypertension than irregular and non-users.

#1  Remember, next time (and there will be more) demand they follow the True Science and not the $$$$$$ and/or Political Science.

Serioulsy, despite the facts slapping them in the face, given India relied heavily on ivermectin and had a lower death rate than the USA.

India - > 530,745 or 31,766 per million
vs.
USA - > 1,136,448 or 312,149 per million

There was a organized effort to censor ANY medical authority, expert and sequester any alternative to mRNA R&D.

These figures work out to the USA having a 882.65% rate of death increase over India, which has about 400% more population than the USA. A population mostly living in 3rd world conditions, with 10x far less medical support.

Now, at the least, EVERY bureaucrat that forced it on them, should be removed from any authoritative position for life.

I see no good reason to trust statistics from India much more than statistics from the PRC. I have personally filled out death certificates and have investigated deaths in hospitals using my own research. Those statistics are sometimes very fishy even when people are conscientious.

#7  GD, Statistics are the tool of the devil, I agree. But the truth is Ivermectin does work. The shot does not. Ivermectin have very mild side effects and millions take is daily. The shot is doing more harm than good. The numbers from India and Brazil can be off by an order of magnitude and still show Ivermectin works.

Diesel Powered Wind Turbines
[HotAir] Scottish Power has been accused of "environmental madness" after it was revealed more than 70 of its wind turbines had been hooked up to diesel generators.

The Sunday Mail revealed via a whistleblower that diesel generators were used on 71 turbines in order to prevent them freezing during cold weather in December.
Imagine that. Freezing weather in December. Won't wonders never cease?
Scottish Power told the publication that this took place after a fault developed on the grid.

Sixty wind turbines at Arecleoch windfarm and 11 at Glen App, both in South Ayrshire, were affected.

Other technical issues• Turbines left operating on half power for long periods due to faulty convertor modules.

• Others in "test mode" where they take rather than contribute electricity to the grid.

• Over 4000 litres of oil leaked from hydraulic units on turbines and sprayed over the countryside.

Dirty hydraulic oil is also regularly being sprayed out across the Scottish countryside due to cracks in mechanisms. Safety standards have not improved since a worker was killed in 2017 at Kilgallioch wind farm.

Freezing, eh? No way to, um, winterize them, is there? That's some slick engineering
Same comment applies to the measures shown to be useless during the recent Texas freezes. One would have thought at the minimum that Texas building managers would have understood that water pipes in unheated buildings tend to burst and damage the buildings, but apparently this wasn't the case in Texas.
Posted by: Gromble Dribble4342 || 02/07/2023 8:31 Comments || Top||

#5  I get (but disagree with) the urge to "save money" by ignoring winterization in a once-in-a-hundred-years scenario (though Texas seems to have gotten that two years in a row!) I don't think a company operating in Scotland can claim that excuse.
Posted by: M. Murcek || 02/07/2023 8:37 Comments || Top||

#6  Large wind turbines require an incoming source of electricity from the grid to keep all their 'innards' operating properly (like phase/frequency synchronization, system controls...and heaters). This separate incoming source is normally not in the same power cabling overhead/underground scheme as the turbine outputs and often doesn't follow the same routing. Loss of this power source does require auxiliary power to keep the above big fans running, so I'm not really surprised by that.

Leaving the turbines running with bad convertors or sketchy hydraulic units is very bad, and can lead to further damage. There are abundant internal monitoring systems within these turbine towers that would alert the operators to these problems and failure to respond is just nuts, especially for the hydraulics.

Over here, the companies would immediately take those units completely offline (via remote control, hence the secondary source of electricity noted above) and shut them completely down until they're repaired. You've seen some turbines completely stopped while others are going full tilt, haven't you? That's usually what's happening.
