Rowling vow on abducted girl
HARRY Potter author J.K. Rowling has pledged a huge reward for information leading to the return of abducted British toddler Madeleine McCann. The toddler turned four on Saturday, an emotional flashpoint that caused her mother Kate to break down and be unable to deliver a public message asking for help finding her daughter.

Billionaire Rowling's offer was made to Britain's News Of The World Sunday newspaper under the condition the amount was not revealed. However the paper said it topped the $2.5 million offered by businessman Stephen Winyard. The offer brings to $9 million the money pledged by British celebrities to help find the missing toddler.

Portuguese police have tried to discourage the rewards, believing they could prejudice the investigation. They are investigating the possibility Madeleine was abducted by pedophiles or an adoption ring.

#1  I hope that little girl is returned safely to her parents. My heart goes out to them.

#2  No parent should leave their 4-year-old daughter in a hotel room while they dine at a restaurant "nearby." In the US, that would be legal grounds for Child Protective Services to get involved and perhaps have the child removed from the home. Just an FYI.

JPost: Unconfirmed report: Libyan leader Gaddafi in coma

#4  Yer too quick, Chuck:).
Reminds me of the Python skit: Well, he's having a lot of mental difficulties ... caused by a small particle of brain in his skull, and once we've removed that he'll be perfectly all right.

#5  Sorry, folks. Looks like no "line of death" for Mo...

TRIPOLI -- Libya Monday scoffed at rumors about veteran leader Muammar Gaddafi's state of health after a report he was in a coma, suffering a blood clot on the brain.

The state news agency JANA said the rumors about Gaddafi, the Arab world's longest serving leader, were the subject of joking during a telephone conversation with Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi Monday morning.

"The phone call was an opportunity for the Italian prime minister to joke about a lie created by a traitor media outlet about the brother leader's health," JANA said.

Palestinian news agency Maan, quoting "informed sources," reported that Gaddafi had suffered a blood clot on the brain and was in a coma after being rushed to hospital Sunday. It later removed the report from its Web site.

Oh-oh. Looks like Maan's made the Libyan shitlist. NO AID FOR YOU!!!

Prodi, on a visit to Prague, said he spoke with Gaddafi for an hour-and-a-half late Sunday and again Monday.

#6  And...let the groveling commence

Ma'an News Agency apologizes to the Libyan leader and people for the confusion which the story caused. They also wish the Libyan leader good health. The Palestinian people still remember the positive support of the Libyan people and government for the Palestinian cause.

But then I thought of his bodyguards -- the fembots.

You've got to remember; who is going to care for his fembots?

#9  Gaddafi is a National Socialist that blends in some Pan-Arabic mysticism, and a dose of Sufi-like Islam mysticism, into his mix. He has never been a poster boy for the Wahabists, which is why he has actively been fighting Al-Q for the past several years - even before his "Come to Jesus" moment on WMDs.

Morocco tourist attack hearing
A MAN who allegedly attacked two Australian tourists in Morocco with a machete appeared in court yesterday, the MAP state news agency said. The tourists are recovering well after Wednesday's attack, MAP said.

Melbourne pharmacist John Parkinson had 40 stitches to several wounds, while Newcastle woman Diana Knox has a broken arm and a slash wound. The attack occurred at the Sofitel Hotel in Marrakesh where Mr Parkinson and Ms Knox were visiting with a 190-strong study tour group, plus partners, from the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia. Several group members were at the hotel's pool when a man, said to be a disgruntled former hotel employee with a history of mental illness, jumped a wall and began slashing at people with two machetes, one in each hand. Mr Parkinson was cut on the head, stomach and one of his wrists. Hotel staff overpowered the man, MAP said.

A Marrakesh judge ordered the man to remain in police custody and have a psychiatric examination, the agency said. The man, whose name has not been released, had brain surgery in 2006 after an accident and has since suffered mental problems, the agency said.

Arabia
Saudi beheads national, two Pakistanis for drug trafficking
RIYADH - A Saudi convicted of murder and two Pakistanis found guilty of drug trafficking were beheaded by the sword on Sunday, the interior ministry said. Mufreh bin Ahmad al-Missbali Assiri stabbed to death Abdullah bin Mohammed al-Mudhlim Assiri after an argument, the ministry said in a statement carried by the state news agency SPA. He was executed in the southwestern region of Assir.

The two Pakistani men were beheaded in the Red Sea city of Jeddah for drug trafficking, the ministry said in a separate statement. Nasser Khan and Abdulrasheed Musharaf were caught trying to smuggle undisclosed amounts of heroin hidden in their stomachs into the kingdom, the ministry said.
You can have that job -- I've seen, up close and personal in the ICU, what happens. The 'mules' swallow balloons containing heroin or cocaine wrapped in layers of latex to smuggle them through customs. Every once in a while a balloon in the stomach or colon starts to leak. It ain't pretty.
The beheadings brought to 66 the number of executions announced by the Saudi authorities this year.

what is the procedure Dr Steve?

start the antagonist naltrexone and then plunge into the work with a long knife can opener?

#2  Let's talk about that a Saudi Prince who has been tried in absntia in Francee and found guilty of drug smuggling. He is in Saudi Arabia so I am holding my breath for his execution.

So, this is, what, a four-fer? Keep'em rolling, boys. The more Mufrehs and Adbullahs for the chop, the better.
Posted by: Excalibur || 05/14/2007 9:07 Comments || Top||

#8  Yes, a plain X-ray makes the diagnosis.

Naltrexone usually doesn't work because you can't give enough to make a difference -- you need the whole hospital supply. Even worse if the mule ingested cocaine; those folks just start seizing and won't stop.

Procedure is to get them as stable as you can as quickly as you can and then heigh thee away to the OR ASAP for a laparotomy and exploration to remove all the balloons.

Taiwan’s top China negotiator tipped to be next premier
TAIPEI - Taiwan’s top China negotiator Chang Chun-hsiung was tight-lipped on Sunday over whether he will be the next premier following the shock resignation of Su Tseng-chang. Su stunned the nation with his resignation Saturday, less than a week after he lost the primary for the 2008 presidential election. Su was the fifth man to quit the job during the president’s seven years in office.

Chang, premier from 2000-2002, on Sunday neither confirmed nor denied the reports. “It will be inappropriate to speculate (on the next premiership) before the announcement by the president,” Chang told reporters. Presidential office spokesman Lee Nan-yang quoted President Chen Shui-bian as saying that the new premier will be announced “as soon as possible.”

“President Chen needs someone who has experience, given the current circumstances,” said Hsu Yung-ming, an assistant research fellow of Taiwan’s top academic body, Academia Sinica. “But in order not to invite opposition from within the ruling party, the president also needs someone who has no political ambition.... Chang is 70,” he said.

#2  Sorry guys, this is my field.
They've been trying to use independent valves for the better part of a century now, the problem is the speed that valves have to open and close, no method is fast enough but mechanical motion, hydraulics and electronic solenoids are roughly ten times too slow.

it's a pipe dream that has no real chance of success.

That said, variable valve timing is a reality, unsuccessful so far, but it has been done. The problem here is the more you complicate the valve train, the easier something breaks.

If this idea succeeds, look for a mechanical system.

OTOH, HANNITY'S AMERICA Show > Ted Kennedy, etal > Kennedy = State of Taxachusetts like to argue for "Universal" Environmentalism in the USA, AS LONG AS ITS NOT IN THEIR BACKYARD OR AFFECTS THEIR AGENDUMS. As wid many Demolefties, Radicalists, and aligned, -ISMS + "EQUALISM" IS FOR EVERYBODY AND ANYBODY ELSE - doesn't apply to them despite "universal" premises.
