Trump Questions Who Tipped Off CNN to Be at Stone Arrest
[Townhall] President Trump on Friday questioned who tipped off CNN to be at the pre-dawn arrest of his former adviser Roger Stone.

"Greatest Witch Hunt in the History of our Country! NO COLLUSION! Border Coyotes, Drug Dealers and Human Traffickers are treated better. Who alerted CNN to be there?" Trump tweeted referencing the indictment of Stone on charges related to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia collusion probe.

CNN cameras were set up at the house where Stone was arrested in Fort Lauderdale, capturing "exclusive" footage.

A producer for the network denied they were tipped off, instead attributing their presence to a "reporter’s instinct" and "unusual grand jury activity in Washington D.C." on Thursday.

-Land of the Free
Illinois Lawmakers Introduce ‘Assault Weapon' Ban
[Bearing Arms] It’s shocking, I know, but Illinois doesn’t have an "assault weapon" ban.

While so many anti-gun states have them, it’s easy to forget that they’re not as universal. Mostly, it’s never happened because as much as Chicago dominates the state’s political landscape, guns are something the more rural parts are willing to fight over. Thus far, they have, and they’ve won.

But now it seems that the Democrats in the state are feeling froggy and think it’s time to go at it again.
A pair of Democratic lawmakers have sponsored a piece of legislation making it illegal to own several different firearms. And several southern Illinois lawmakers plan to fight the bill.

"Our second amendment rights are sacred to we as Americans, and here in southern Illinois we’re not going to tolerate it," State Rep. Terri Bryant, (R) Murphysboro, said.

Terri Bryant says Senate Bill 107 is just the latest attempt to ban legal guns. Democratic senators filed the bill Wednesday and it bars anyone from owning certain semi-automatic rifles, pistols and shotguns. That includes AR 15’s.

It also allows gun owners to keep their weapons if they register them with Illinois State Police within 300 days of the bill passing, but any future sales of those guns would be prohibited.

Note that it doesn’t just focus on so-called "assault rifles," but also certain semi-automatic shotguns and pistols. In other words, Illinois Democrats are trying to be as sweeping as possible.

In the process, they’re seriously infringing on the Second Amendment.

Daily Telegraph To Pay Melania Trump "Substantial" Damages For Article
Posted by: g(r)omgoru || 01/26/2019 14:43 || Comments || Link || [4 views] Top|| File under:

#1  Following is a blockquote of it all:
Melania Trump – An Apology
Following last Saturday’s (Jan 19) Telegraph magazine cover story “The mystery of Melania”, we have been asked to make clear that the article contained a number of false statements which we accept should not have been published. Mrs Trump’s father was not a fearsome presence and did not control the family. Mrs Trump did not leave her Design and Architecture course at University relating to the completion of an exam, as alleged in the article, but rather because she wanted to pursue a successful career as a professional model. Mrs Trump was not struggling in her modelling career before she met Mr Trump, and she did not advance in her career due to the assistance of Mr Trump.

We accept that Mrs Trump was a successful professional model in her own right before she met her husband and obtained her own modelling work without his assistance. Mrs Trump met Mr Trump in 1998, not in 1996 as stated in the article. The article also wrongly claimed that Mrs Trump’s mother, father and sister relocated to New York in 2005 to live in buildings owned by Mr Trump. They did not. The claim that Mrs Trump cried on election night is also false.

We apologise unreservedly to The First Lady and her family for any embarrassment caused by our publication of these allegations. As a mark of our regret we have agreed to pay Mrs Trump substantial damages as well as her legal costs.

US Democrat Bloomberg says Trump is 'flunking' as president
[CNA] TYSONS, VIRGINIA: Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg took his case against President Donald Trump for a test run on Friday (Jan 25), as the possible 2020 presidential candidate told Democratic business leaders that his fellow New York billionaire was "flunking".

"I think it's clear this president at this point cannot be helped, and the training wheels that the staff tried to put on in the Oval Office have not worked," said Bloomberg, a 76-year-old media mogul who served three terms as New York mayor. "The president is just flunking every single test."

Bloomberg repeatedly hinted that he could mount a campaign for the Democratic nomination and join a large field hoping to challenge Trump in the November 2020 election.

The billionaire political activist and founder of a media company that bears his name would bring a famous brand and business background to the field of Democrats that is expected to grow to as many as two dozen.

"We’ve got to make sure we’ve got someone different in the White House and I’m committed to that," Bloomberg said. "Who here would hire Donald Trump to run their company? No. We’re his boss though. We’re the board of directors. And we should do what any board of directors would do in the private sector."

Elizabeth Warren proposes 'wealth tax' on the very rich
[American Thinker] Senator Elizabeth Warren is proposing a "wealth tax" on Americans with more than $50 million in total assets. She is advocating for a 2% tax on those worth more than $50 million and 3% on those with a billion dollars or more in assets.

National Review:
"The Warren wealth tax is pretty big. We think it could have a significant effect on wealth concentration in the long run," Saez told the Post. "This is a very interesting development with deep root causes: The fact inequality has been increasing so much, particularly in wealth, and the feeling our current tax system doesn’t do a very good job taxing the very richest people."

The proposal seeks to address the tax evasion that fiscal conservatives argue would reduce the efficacy of any wealth tax by allocating additional resources to the IRS, imposing a one-time penalty on Americans who renounce their citizenship to avoid the tax, and requiring that a certain percentage of those affected by the tax undergo a yearly audit.
The proposal is supposed to raise $2.75 trillion over 10 years, or about 10% of the "Medicare for All" proposal Democrats have been floating. I will believe it when I see it. The grandiose "projections" for how much revenue these taxes on the super rich will raise are always spectacularly off. When France passed a wealth tax in 2012, they projected income from the measure to be 30 billion euros. They got 14 billion, which left a gaping hole in their budget.

Besides the dubious chances for success, it may be that such a tax would be unconstitutional:

#3  There's a line on the Massachusetts state income tax return (Line 22 for the 2018 tax year) that allows for the voluntary election to pay a higher rate of state taxes (5.85%, normal rate is 5.1%). This line has been on the form for a long, long time, and Elizabeth Warren has never opted to pay this higher rate on any filed tax return since she's been a resident of Mass. Until I see evidence that she has volunteered to pay extra taxes, she can go piss up a rope.

Texas Secretary Of State: As Many As 58,000 Non-Citizens Voted In Elections
[Star-Telegram] Texas election officials said Friday that tens of thousands of people whose U.S. citizenship could not be confirmed cast ballots in one or more election in the state during the past 22 years.

Texas Secretary of State David Whitley said a year-long evaluation found about 95,000 people described as "non-U.S. citizens" who are registered to vote in Texas. About 58,000 of them voted in Texas elections between 1996 and 2018, Whitley said.

"Integrity and efficiency of elections in Texas require accuracy of our state’s voter rolls, and my office is committed to using all available tools under the law to maintain an accurate list of registered voters," Whitley said.

These voters were found as state workers updated voter registration lists, comparing data with the Texas Department of Public Safety, to make sure those who cast ballots were eligible to do so, Whitley said.

Trump announces deal with lawmakers to end government shutdown
[ARABNEWS] President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
said on Friday he has reached a tentative agreement with US politicians for three weeks in stop-gap funding that would end a partial US government shutdown now in its 35th day, with a senior Democratic aide saying money the president demanded for a border wall is not included.
Not paying the Coast Guard woulda been the kicker there. As soon as I read about it, I saw this coming.
The president had previously insisted on the inclusion of $5.7 billion to help pay for a wall along the vast US-Mexico border in any legislation to fund government agencies.

"I am very proud to announce today that we have reached a deal to end the shutdown and reopen the federal government," Trump said in remarks in the White House Rose Garden.

"In a short while, I will sign a bill to open our government for three weeks until Feb. 15. I will make sure that all employees receive their back pay very quickly, or as soon as possible," Trump said.

Federal Employees were about to loose a third paycheck, 6 Senators had defected, you need to blame the Senate as well. Trump knew he had to withdraw, regroup and fight again. Beating these hardass people in the first fight to secure our borders will take a few battles, almost no wars have been won in one battle. I believe getting a wall is going to take a while to wear down the opposition.

Democrats Ducking Vote on Rejecting Anti-Semitism
[Free Beacon] Democratic leaders are remaining quiet about a new congressional measure that rejects anti-Semitism and chides a new class of Democratic congressional members for the open embrace of notorious anti-Semites and anti-Israel causes, according to the leading Republican author of that new measure.

Rep. Lee Zeldin (R., N.Y.), one of just two Jewish Republicans in Congress, has introduced a new congressional resolution in the House that categorically rejects anti-Semitism in all its forms and calls out some newly elected Democratic members who have ridden a popular wave into Congress on the backs of anti-Semitic leaders and causes, Zeldin told the Washington Free Beacon in a wide-ranging interview.

While a similar House resolution condemning white supremacy sailed to a nearly unanimous vote several weeks ago, Zeldin's amendment, focused directly on anti-Semitism, has put Democratic leaders in a precarious position as they are forced to reject the views of popular new freshman colleagues.

"It's up to the Democrats to decide whether or not they are actually going to confront this head on," Zeldin told the Free Beacon. "I'm wiling to work with any Democratic colleague on any idea he or she has to crush anti-Semitism in any form. But I can't do that for them."

To that end, Zeldin's measure‐which is expected to be brought for a vote in the coming weeks‐is shaping up to be a sort of litmus test for the Democratic leadership as it figures out how to deal with a class of freshmen who are open about their distaste for Israel and support causes like the Boycott, Sanction, and Divestment movement, or BDS, which wages economic warfare on the Jewish state.
