Florida woman accused of shoplifting threw her baby at deputy
[CLICKORLANDO] A Pensacola woman has been placed in durance vile
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
after authorities say they tried to arrest her for shoplifting and she threw her baby at a deputy as she tried to escape.

Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office said Ashley Taylor Wright tried to smuggle about $260 worth of clothing from a Dillard's dressing room.

Deputies approached her car in the parking lot Monday night and asked her to get out.

Authorities said the 23-year-old told the deputy, "You will have to shoot through the baby to get me."

She then allegedly ran from the car and threw the car seat with the baby inside at the deputy.

The infant was not injured. Two other young children were also in the car.

Whistleblower Kruidvos plans to file suit against Florida SA Angela Corey
(Rooters) - A former employee of Florida State Attorney Angela Corey's office plans to file a whistleblower lawsuit against George Zimmerman's prosecutors, his attorney told Reuters on Tuesday.

The action will put pressure on Corey, who already faces criticism from some legal experts for the unsuccessful prosecution of the case, which led to the acquittal of Zimmerman for shooting unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman's defense has also called for sanctions against her and her prosecution team.

Ben Kruidbos, Corey's former director of information technology, was fired after testifying at a pre-trial hearing on June 6 that prosecutors failed to turn over potentially embarrassing evidence extracted from Martin's cell phone to the defense, as required by evidence-sharing laws.

"We will be filing a whistleblower action in (Florida's Fourth Judicial District) Circuit Court," said Kruidbos' attorney Wesley White, himself a former prosecutor who was hired by Corey but resigned in December because he disagreed with her prosecutorial priorities. He said the suit will be filed within the next 30 days.

Corey and lead prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda declined to comment. A spokeswoman for Corey referred Rooters to Kruidbos' termination letter, previously made public, in which Corey's office accused him of hacking confidential information from state computers.

Ben Kruidbos, Corey's former director of information technology, was fired after testifying at a pre-trial hearing on June 6 that prosecutors failed to turn over potentially embarrassing evidence extracted from Martin's cell phone to the defense, as required by evidence-sharing laws.
This could get ugly for Corey and if DoJ is involvement is discovered, even uglier.

#2  This could drag on right through elections next year, instead of disappearing from the news. I'm going to vote, as early in the morning as I am capable of, and it's going to be straight Republican ticket, even the RINOs. The Honourable President Barack Hussein Obama and his henchmen have had their way for entirely too long, and those who boycotted the Republicans in the last several elections because they were not tea party/social conservative/economic conservative/other imperfection enough own this as much as the Democrats do.

Yes, John McCain would have been an awful president. But on his watch the IRS would not have engaged in this nonsense, nor the Justice Department, nor the legacy media. Nor would an Obamacare kludge have been passed, because he would not have gamed the system to strong arm it through, nor encouraged such a horrible bill to be passed, though he is a big government man who believes in "national healthcare reform" of that sort.

#3  Wikipedia says Cory is (R), but she is not a fan of the Second Amendment - In 2009, Ronald Thompson, a 65-year old army veteran fired two shots into the ground to scare off teenagers who were demanding entry into his friend's house in Keystone Heights, Florida.[34] Corey prosecuted Thompson for aggravated assault, and after he refused a plea agreement with a three-year prison sentence, won a conviction that would carry a mandatory 20-year sentence under Florida's 10-20-Life statute. The trial judge, Fourth Circuit Judge John Skinner called the 20-year sentence "a crime in itself" and declared the 10-20-Life statute unconstitutional. Skinner gave Thompson three years instead.[34]

Corey appealed the 3-year sentence and won, sending Thompson to prison for 20 years.[34]

In June 2012, Fourth Circuit Judge Don Lester granted Thompson a new trial, ruling that the jury instructions had been flawed in his original trial regarding the justifiable use of deadly or non-deadly force given the circumstances of the case.[35] Thompson has been freed and awaits a decision by Corey's office on a new trial.

#4  I read somewhere else she's a life-long Democrat. Wanted to try a 13 year-old as an adult but said Martin was a child. A real piece of work. Very vindictive.

#5  vindictive b*tch is a term that has been heard well before the zmmerman trial. ALso well known for over-charging in an attempt to a) get a plea, and b) appear tough on rime "I get the maximum penalties, thats why IM tough" sort of thing. All in all, an out of control egomaniac dim bulb that has no business in the AG office.

More than 1,000 sue ex-Chad dictator for war crimes
[Al Ahram] More than 1,000 alleged victims of former dictator Hissene Habre are suing him in Senegal
... a nation of about 14 million on the west coast of Africa bordering Mauretania to the north, Mali to the east, and a pair of Guineas to the south, one of them Bissau. It is 90 percent Mohammedan and has more than 80 political parties. Its primary purpose seems to be absorbing refugees...
, where he is being tried for genocide during his eight-year rule of Chad, their lawyers said on Wednesday.

Habre, 70, faces accusations of war crimes, crimes against humanity and torture during his brutal rule between 1982 and 1990, when some 40,000 people were killed, according to rights groups.

Arrested in early July after more than two decades in exile in Senegal, the former dictator was placed on remand in Dakar where he is to stand trial after years of delays by the Senegalese government.

"We will represent the 1,015 victims throughout the proceedings, from the investigation to the trial," their lawyer Jacqueline Moudeina, flanked by five of the alleged victims, told a media conference.

"These victims have suffered abuses under the regime of Hissene Habre. They expect justice to be done."

Moudeina said the lawsuit, which will be heard as part of the criminal proceedings, included a request for Habre's assets to be frozen so that her clients -- who are mostly Chadian -- can be compensated.

Restoration of YouTube: LHC flays Google's lack of response
[Dawn] The Lahore High Court has expressed disappointment over lack of response from the administration of IT giant Google with regard to attending proceedings for restoration of its video-sharing website Youtube.

Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah observed: "Google have not made any effort to inform the court about their inability to join instant proceedings which is not expected from a reputable company like it."

He said Google Asia Pacific Ltd failed to respond to the court notices issued to solicit Google's position whether it wished to localise its services in Pakistain (i.e., google.com.pk).

The Ministry of Information and Technology (MOIT) told the court that Google was not interested in joining the instant proceedings.

Petitioner's counsel submitted that there were several technologies available which could help block controversial contents/sites appearing on the Youtube and, therefore, the ministry and Pakistain Telecommunications Authority (PTA) be directed to reopen the functioning of YouTube and only block the controversial sites.

On the other hand, representative of the ministry and PTA submitted there was no such technology available so far which could absolutely block all the controversial sites and, therefore, there was no guarantee that any controversial film or material would not surface on YouTube.

The judge remarked that the answer to the opening YouTube lied in the technological ability of MOIT/PTA to block controversial content as and when it appeared on the website. He directed PTA (S&D) Director General Wasim Tauqeer to hold a meeting with the petitioner as well as representative of MOIT and the IT experts in order to assess and explore the state of technological ability available in the country.

The judge ordered that departmental representative would organise a meeting before the next date of hearing and explore various technologies that could enable MOIT/PTA to block the controversial websites and yet make available the educational and informational content on YouTube for the public.

He further directed that Mr Tauqeer would place the meeting minutes on record before the next hearing and also appear before the court in person to render assistance.

Justice Shah observed in case MOIT/PTA failed to come up with a technological answer, the court would then proceed to decide the matter on the constitutional touchstone of fundamental rights and public interest involved in this case.

Further hearing will be held on July 27.

YouTube was blocked in September 2012 in Pakistain following upload of a blasphemous film on the website.

Body formed to draft Hindu marriage law
[Dawn] The provincial government on Tuesday constituted a three-member expert committee to prepare a draft law on Hindu marriage and forced conversions in consultation with minority politicians.

Law Minister Dr Sikandar Mandhro presided over a meeting of minority politicians that decided to form a committee and recommended that former acting chief justice of Pakistain Rana Bhagwandas, eminent Sindh High Court lawyer Jhamatmal Jethanana and retired Justice Majida Rizvi comprise the three-member expert committee.

Those minority MPAs who attended the meeting included Dr Khatumal Jeewan, Dr Lal Chand Ukrani, Pesu Mal, Mukesh Kumar Chawla and Gayanchand Israni.

After the meeting held in the law minister's chamber in the assembly building, Dr Mandhro told the media that on Tuesday the first meeting was held with the minority politicians of the Sindh Assembly with the aim of taking them on board and obtaining their input about the draft law so that after its assessment by the law department the bill could be tabled in the next assembly session.

He said the experts' committee was formed on the suggestion of minority MPAs as they felt that the experts could suggest amendments to the draft law.

One of the participants in the meeting, provincial Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla, told Dawn that the government had sent its request to all the three law experts and hoped that they would consent to be part of the committee. Once they received their agreement, a meeting would be called to start work on the draft law, he said.

He also mentioned that the draft law should discuss the issue of alimony and child support as well. "Such laws exist in marriage laws of other communities but there is nothing for a Hindu woman should she get divorced and have a minor child to look after."

When asked why the draft law was not made earlier he answered that before the 18th amendment to the Constitution there was a move to make the necessary amendments in Hindu marriage laws at the federal level but after the amendment the subject of marriage was devolved to provinces and now the committee has been formed to look into the matter.

He also added that he and his fellow politicians are aiming to prepare the draft law before Eid so that it could be tabled in the Sindh Assembly as a bill in the next regular session.

#5  Here is a question I asked at the Corner earlier today:

A question for the Corner, its writers and readers:

It is said that the collection of the Detroit Institute of the Arts is worth many billions. To help resolve the inevitable bankruptcy, should the city offer up part or all of the collection to pay its debts (particularly to city employee pension plans), or should it continue to hold the collection in conservatorship for future generations?

#6  Hi - I left Detroit in the early '90s just past the peak of a crack fueled burning of the city. This was bound to happen, Even before the Young administration Detroit was corrupt..
NAFTA sealed the deal with most of the auto parts manufacturing going to Mexico.
Thanks Bill Clinton...
People may talk about 'white flight' but after the Devils Nights for a few years around '87 - IMO - any one who could, left the city.
White - Black - Latino...
I know most big city's have problems - but I've never seen it on a scale like that of Detroit at the time.
And I've been to most large American cities.
My only hope is that this is not the coming trend for other cities in America.
And I wont even start in on the salifist's in Dearborn and Hamtramak...

#16  Natural final step, thanks to unions and corrupt politicians (but I repeat myself).

And YES, they should sell the artwork, etc., to help pay their creditors. (And no, that money shouldn't go straight into the union pockets pension funds, stiffing all the other creditors.)

If I had to go bankrupt, with debts way over my head that I knew when I incurred them I wouldn't be able to pay, would I be allowed to hold the bulk of my tangible assets "in conservatorship for future generations"?

P.S. - I know someone who's in bankruptcy now, and the answer is NO.

Just sayin'.

IRS Lawyer Says Scandal Was Overseen by D.C. - Daily Caller
“Top IRS officials in Washington, D.C. planned and oversaw the agency’s improper targeting of conservative groups, according to the 72-year old retiring IRS lawyer who will testify Thursday before the House Oversight Committee,” the Daily Caller reports:

Retiring IRS lawyer Carter C. Hull implicated the IRS Chief Counsel’s office, headed by Obama appointee William J. Wilkins, and Lois Lerner, the embattled head of the IRS’ exempt organizations office, in the IRS targeting scandal and made clear that the targeting started in Washington, according to leaked interviews that Hull granted to the Oversight Committee in advance of Thursday’s hearing.
Started in D.C. did it? Who knew ?
Treasury Inspector General J. Russell George will return to Republican chairman Darrell Issa’s committee Thursday along with two central characters in the IRS saga: Hull and Cincinnati-based IRS employee Elizabeth Hofacre, who previously gave Hull’s name to congressional investigators, fingering him as her Washington-based supervisor.
We were simply following orders from the Reichssicherheitshauptamt
Hull is naming names.
Yes, give us the names please.
“In April 2010, Mr. Hull was instructed to scrutinize certain Tea Party applications by one of his superiors in Washington. According to Mr. Hull, these applications were used as ‘test’ cases and assigned to him because of his expertise and because IRS leadership in Washington was ‘trying to find out how [the IRS] should approach these organizations, and how [the IRS] should handle them,’” according to Oversight Committee documents.
We were searching for voters guidance.
“According to Hull’s testimony, Ms. Lerner…gave an atypical instruction that the Tea Party applications undergo special scrutiny that included an uncommon multi-layer review that involved a top advisor to Lerner as well as the Chief Counsel’s office,” according to Oversight Committee documents.
"Atypical" ....unless of course you are a democratic campaign activist
