[WND] What if all the interventions in the 2016 presidential election by "Russians" actually were Democrats posing as Russians?
Talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh tossed that bombshell into the political discussion Monday, saying it wouldn’t surprise him because he has evidence the Democrats did exactly that in the 2017 special Senate election in Alabama.
He cites a tech billionaire’s confession to paying the bill.
WND reported the Democrats researched how Russians used social media to influence the 2016 election and deployed the same tactics against Judge Roy Moore in the special election in Alabama.
Later, LinkedIn’s Reid Hoffman admitted partly funding a group of Democrats that used "disinformation tactics" in the race, which was won by Democrat Doug Jones.
Facebook later suspended five accounts tied to the disinformation campaign, and elections officials in Alabama said they were investigating.
"They created misleading Facebook pages, urged Republicans in Alabama to support a write-in candidate instead of Roy Moore, and ’created false evidence that bots were backing Moore on Twitter’ to spur misleading news headlines," a report about the dark web tactics said.
Sen. Mike Braun (R-IN), along with Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), will introduce the No Budget, No Pay legislation, which stipulates that members must pass all budget resolutions and appropriation bills by the start of the fiscal year, October 1, or else they will not receive any pay.
Meanwhile Dems in the House want to be able to automatically raise the debt ceiling.

How about a Constitutional Amendment, that if Congress fails to pass appropriations on all Federal departments by 1 October, the entire body is barred from reelection or appointed offices for 10 years. Suddenly, I feel real compromise will occur.

IIRC, the Constitution prohibits cutting the pay of Congressmen during their session. That sort of thing was done in pre-Revolutionary times and was much out of favor with the Founders.

Politico reported the mayor said the cost would be $100 million. It's not clear when it will be implemented. Knowing past government systems... that cost needs to be raised by 5 and it will be implemented when the current leaders need a distraction from their deeds
"This has never been done in the country in a comprehensive way," de Blasio said. "Health care isn't just a right in theory, it must be a right in practice. And we're doing that here in this city."
De Blasio said the plan will provide primary and specialty care, from pediatrics to OBGYN, geriatric and more, to the city's roughly 600,000 uninsured. He said the city already has the foundation for such a revolutionary plan -- a public health insurance option that helps get direct care to undocumented residents.
Notice how that bit about the undocumented is quietly slipped in, dear Reader.
That option will be expanded, the mayor said, and supported with the addition of a new program called NYC Care. Details on the program are expected to be revealed later Tuesday.
"We're already paying an exorbitant amount to pay for health care the wrong way," de Blasio said on MSNBC, referring to the cost of emergency room visits. "What we should be doing is helping them get the primary care." Get ready to pay more then, New Yorkers. Between this and paying for Amazon, you guys will be all broke as fuck in a decade.

BP, there were two Militia Acts in 1792 during Congress' first meeting. The first defined who was in the militia, the second said that each member of the militia was to arm themselves with the same weapon that the small American army was armed with. Kudos to the exercise leader at the senior center who gave them a workout routine that incorporated controlled stretching, balance, light calisthenics, camaraderie, and memory training in such an amusing way.

Don't do this if you want to get fit.
Let your heart rate recover, THEN do the high intensity exercise.
As you get fitter your heart rate will drop faster.
As you can see "our" super-marine is already extremely fit so needs very little recovery time.
If you don't recover you won't get the benefit of HIIT and you'll not burn fat.

During his visit to Israel on Sunday, Bolton set conditions for the US pullout from Syria that included Turkey guaranteeing the safety of the Kurdish militia that spearheaded the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS).
"We cannot accept the message Bolton gave from Israel, we cannot be deceived by it," Erdogan said in a speech to his Justice and Development Party (AK Party) deputies.
Trump announced the withdrawal of some 2,000 US troops from Syria last month in a statement that shocked many politicians in Washington, along with Western and Kurdish allies who fought alongside the US in the war-torn country.

Pompeo is saying the same thing in another article at R-burg today. It has been reported that Trump had an agreement with Erdogan to protect the Kurds.
[American Thinker] Yesterday, The Wall Street Journal published an opinion piece, "In America’s Absence, the TPP Goes On," bemoaning how Trump’s withdrawal from TPP has hurt exporters. But somehow it left out information about how total exports are actually doing. (It must be an innocent oversight and not based on any agenda.)
If the WSJ would look at actual total exports, they are up substantially year over year in every quarter of 2018 over 2017, and in 2017 they were up substantially over 2016 in every quarter.
So how exactly are exporters being hurt if total exports are continually up? Especially since the worldwide economy is slowing.
The WSJ predicted that Trump’s trade policies and tariffs would harm the economy and cause higher inflation. Neither is true. The economy is growing faster than any time since 2005 and import price inflation for November 2018 vs 2017 was only .7%, lower than the overall rate inflation.
It seems that no matter what the facts are on trade and no matter how far off previous predictions were by the WSJ and others, the narrative remains the same.
It is bad enough to read this stuff in the NYT, WP and by the AP. It is worse to read it in what used to be a newspaper that was much more balanced.
It was always abject ignorance to believe countries would stop trading with the U.S. if Trump wanted bilateral trade agreements that the U.S. controls in place of global agreements under some global body. Why would countries be so stubborn to stop trading with the richest and biggest economy in the World?

Tariffs should equalise the difference in land prices (which represent the difference in wages) to do set them lower will "merely" export jobs and importers will collect those wages.
Tariffs are much better option than sales tax (deferred income taxes).

Tariffs are much better option Whenever I read opinion pieces against imposition of tariffs, they are made out to be worse than legalized cannibalism.

Meanwhile, the House’s shiniest, newest big government/open borders Socialist, the aforementioned Ocasio-Cortez, is busy spreading the word about her grand ideas. In case you missed it:
That ought to fix the job market. And someone might want to remind this economic genius that high earners already pay "a disproportionately large share of the federal tax burden"‐some of them also employ a heckuva lot of people‐and that soaking them even further to fund the left’s Climate Change/Medicare for All scams would fail regardless. The math just doesn’t add up. Mind you, this woman holds a degree in economics.
In response, at least one of the "ladies" on The View is criticizing Ocasio-Cortez’s big mouth:

Suggestion on the Border Wall issue.
Just tax all monetary wire transfers send to any foreign country by any person that is not a US Citizen, or a holder of a valid Green Card, or a valid US issued work Visa.
Even Wall St. & Forbes estimate the Illegals send back to their home countries between $32 Billion and $54 Billion each year, which is never taxed having been earned under the table.
Pick a Tax Rate:
Socialist rate is about 70%,
Liberal-DINO rate is about 39%,
RINO rate is 13% for lower incomes.
So If even a 10% duty tax is imposed it would result in $3.2 Billion to $5.4 Billion per year for ICE & border control enforcement budget.

Senator Cruz re-submitted a bill to use confiscated drug money to pay for the wall. Seems like a good idea to me, and really puts the Dems in an awkward position when they vote against it.

Another thing that would put the Dems in an awkward position would be to tax Remittances to Mexico at 5% and publish monthly along with the jobs figures how much progress was being made on funding the wall. Dems would probably want to lump all remittances to all countries together to bury that figure.

Redirect the foreign aid money that we send to Mexico toward the wall. Apparently, the amount of money the federal government sends to Mexico fluctuates every year. In 2010 it was $718 million but in 2018 it was down to $29 million. After that little caravan stunt I'd say redirect the foreign aid that we send to Honduras, Guatemala and Nicaragua too.

[Townhall] DUBLIN, Ireland -- The Irish government is proposing rebates to a carbon tax it recently imposed to households that comply with what it considers "low-carbon lifestyles." I'm doubtful. People don't like their governments forcing them to accept a lesser lifestyle because of an ideology some believe has yet to be definitively proved, while the elites continue to live as they like.
So strong is the faith of the climate change cult that McDonald's, the world's largest purchaser of beef, is considering "meat alternatives" because of alleged environmental damage from traditional farming methods, according to a story in the Financial Times.
In the United States, Chuck Todd, host of NBC's "Meet the Press," resembled the media in totalitarian countries when he announced that henceforth he would not give air time to climate change deniers. Todd says that's because climate change is "settled science." The many legitimate scientists with knowledge and experience in climate who disagree are to be isolated in an ideological gulag for not toeing the party line.

British Columbia has a ~revenue neutral carbon tax.
In its early years, when the tax wasn't too high it worked pretty well because it was relatively easy to offset the carbon tax with reductions in various business taxes and fees and a income tax credit. As the carbon tax went up, it has gotten more difficult to offset because, with more $C at state, the various groups wanting the reductions have gotten more aggressive and also, the rewards for gaming the system by using accounting tricks has become greater

[BBC] Donald Trump's presidency has coincided with a sharp rise in US-led airstrikes in Somalia and the trend is set to continue in 2019.
In a speech in December outlining the US' Africa policy, President Trump's National Security Adviser John Bolton said "terrorists operating in Africa have... repeatedly targeted US citizens and interests".
He gave the impression that there would be no let up in the struggle against militant Islamist groups, such as the Somalia-based al-Shabab, which is affiliated to al-Qaeda.
In March 2017, the Pentagon received White House approval to expand its fight against the militants in the Horn of Africa nation.
Commanders now no longer require high-level vetting to approve strikes on al-Shabab in "areas of active hostilities" in Somalia.
"It allows [us] to prosecute targets in a more rapid fashion," said General Thomas Walhauser of US Africa Command (Africom).
[Climate Change Dispatch] Very often, when I talk to the public or the media about global warming (a low-frequency positive trend in global temperature in the last 120 years or so), they ask me the unfortunate question if I "believe" in global warming.
And I say "unfortunate" because when we are dealing with a scientific problem "believing" has no place. In science, we either prove or disprove.
We "believe" only when we cannot possibly prove a truth. For example, we may "believe" in reincarnation or an afterlife but we cannot prove either.
One may argue that when we are dealing with a scientific problem, such as global warming, for which we cannot obtain unquestionable experimental confirmation as to what is causing it (for the simple reason that we cannot repeat this experiment; we only have one realization of climate evolution), we may form an opinion based on the existing scientific evidence in hand, current knowledge, possible theories and hypotheses.
But we should be skeptical of claims that the science of a complicated and unpredictable system is settled.
Nobody argues that the temperature of the planet is not increasing in the last 120 years or so. Yes, the temperature is increasing overall. But there are a lot of questions regarding why that is.
In the current state of affairs regarding global warming, opinion is divided into two major factions.
A large portion of climate scientists argues that most, if not all of the recent warming, is due to anthropogenic effects, which originate largely from carbon dioxide emissions from the burning of fossil fuels.
Another portion is on the other extreme: Those who argue that humans have nothing to do with global warming and that all this fuss is a conspiracy to bring the industrial world down.
The latter group calls the former group "the catastrophists" or "the alarmists," whereas the former group calls the latter group "the deniers."
This childish division is complemented by another group, the "skeptics," which includes those like me who question the extreme beliefs and try to look at all scientific evidence before we form an opinion (by the way, the former group also considers skeptics to be deniers).
In the realm of deniers, skeptics, and believers, science has been compromised. I usually don’t bother with pseudo-scientists, media, and ignorant people abusing the freedom of the Internet by writing and posting nonsense comments. But what a brilliantly constructed global cause célèbre for the Deep State to exercise control through the media, and funding. The funding (funneled through respected international agencies) would of course be necessary to gain the insights and loyal support of scientists worldwide.
But I have grown wary of what is going on with the debate on the overblown and misdirected issue of global warming ‐ a case in point is "Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd saying he will no longer give time to global warming "deniers" and also that the "science is settled."

During my lifetime, this 'phenomenon' has changed from 'global cooling' to 'global warming', then to 'climate change'. Hmmm - I'm supposed to believe the climate did a complete 180 in the span of mere decades, a relative blink of the eye in geological terms?
The solution's always been the same - raise taxes and expand some level of government. The fact that the label's changed at least twice would tell a reasonably suspicious person that you're being conned.

Changes in the amount of atmosphere change the pressure (as gravity aint changing) and that says how much heat the atmosphere can hold, which defines the temperature.
The varying determinant of atmosphere? Water vapour, of course water vapour forms clouds that prevent more water vapour and the system stabilises around that.

Said in part fact and part humor.
Regarding Global Cooling, Global Warming, Climate Change or whatever they dream up as they are disproven again and again. The human population has increased from 2.3 Billion to over 6.4 Billion in the last 100+/- years and each human body generates 25,000 BTUs. That is 3.9B x 25K more BTU's being released on the environment. An this is not counting the raise in needed food animals to feed them.
Or how about the increase use of air conditioning (HVAC) displacing on average 1300 sq/ft back into the environment for the estimated 10 billion HVAC buildings in the world.
It seems what we need is not a Carbon Tax for some some politicians spend and funnel to their donors. But a good clean quick War, or plague to drop the world population back to 1 to 2 billion.

Escrow closes on new house in Gardenerville, NV next week. Its costing me tens of thousands to get out of CA but it has finally gotten so oppressive here that I am getting out after decades. Great weather and scenery cannot offset the Cost of living and political climate. Just hope some PC idiot buys my house in El Dorado Hills for the current market values.

The sources further added that a commander of Taliban was also among those killed.
The Afghan forces also conducted a force protection patrol operation in Shahwali Kot district of Kandahar which resulted in the killing of 5 Taliban fighters killed, the sources said, adding that coalition forces conducted an airstrike killing 2 Taliban fighters and destroying one vehicle in Pashtun Kot district of Faryab.

[DAWN] The Pakistain Medical Association (PMA) on Sunday said the country registered birth of 15,000 babies on the first day of the New Year, showing an increase of over five million in a year, which was not a good omen for a country which had miserably limited resources to run itself.
It demanded the government to formulate an effective policy to control the alarmingly increasing population.
"The PMA has been raising its voice for long to curb the rapid increase of population in Pakistain. The birth of 15,000 babies in Pakistain on the first day of 2019 is an alarming sign," said PMA secretary general SM Qaisar Sajjad in a policy statement of the medical fraternity’s premier body.
The PMA official cited a report issued by the United Nations ...a formerly good idea gone bad... agency for children giving the number of births per day in Pakistain.
"It means we have 450,000 births in a month and 5.4 million in a year. This proves that Pakistain is among the countries registering the fastest population growth in the world."
The PMA said at present Pakistain was a country with more than 200 million people and in a few years it would be the fourth most populous nation in the world.
"The PMA thinks that it is a distressing situation as at the moment 60 per cent of the national population stands below the age of 25 years; 25 million children are not going to school and 90pc population is not being provided with clean drinking water. Malnutrition is another big issue and food scarcity is a grave problem as well.

[Hill Reporter] In an interview that aired on CNBC, Erik Prince, the founder of Blackwater and a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump, elaborated on why he was contacted by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, and what the meeting with his investigators was like.
"Look, anytime you sit down for an interview like that it’s ‐ I think you probably would rather go to a proctology exam," Prince said, according to reporting from CNBC.
Although his comments suggested that he found the interview to be quite daunting, Prince said the meeting itself was "much ado about nothing."
"I answered their questions, and they haven’t talked to me since," Prince said.
Previous reporting from the Washington Post indicated that Mueller and his team were seeking out Prince due to a meeting he had in the United Arab Emirates shortly after Trump won the presidential election in 2016, but before he actually became president.
Prince was serving as an informal adviser to the president at the time, and had met with a man named Kirill Dmitriev, who runs Russia’s sovereign investment and has strong ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Individuals with knowledge of Dmitriev and Prince’s meeting say that it was set up in advance, and included discussions into finding ways to form backchannel communications between Trump and Putin.
Prince denied those allegations, stating that the meeting was a chance encounter during a trip he made to celebrate Trump’s win.
"I went to see an old friend, leadership in the [United Arab Emirates] after the election, and there was a Russian there," Prince said. "So I had no contact with him before, no contact after."
Beyond being a strong supporter of Trump’s and a former adviser to the president-elect during the transition period, Prince has other ties to the White House: his sister is Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.

[SG.NEWS.YAHOO] Some of the 49 migrants colonists stranded off the coast of Malta are refusing food, one of the groups running the boats that rescued them reported Monday.
"On board of #SeaWatch we are reporting episodes of people refusing food," Sea-Watch International tweeted Monday.
"We fear that their psychological and health status may deteriorate significantly," it added.
The migrants colonists, rescued while attempting the dangerous Mediterranean crossing from north Africa to Europe, have been stranded on the Sea-Watch and another boat since December 22 since no country has allowed it to dock.
But the diplomatic deadlock among EU member states has still not been resolved, despite Pope Francis's appeal on Sunday for EU leaders to show solidarity towards the migrants colonists.
The Sea-Watch and the Sea-Eye, who between them have 49 migrants colonists on board, including a baby and a number of children, remain off the coast of Malta.

[IsraelTimes] Border Police officers shot a Paleostinian woman in the leg after she ignored calls to stop as she walked toward them, in an apparent attempt to be killed in "suicide by cop" at a northern West Bank junction on Monday, police said.
The border guards were stationed at the Tapuah Junction, a location frequented by both Israelis and Paleostinians.
The officers "spotted the suspect approaching them. Despite the officers’ calls [for her to stop], she continued approaching," police said in a statement.
"The border guards had gun sex, but she was not deterred and continue approaching them suspiciously. Finally, the officers shot her in the lower body and subdued her," police said.
Police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld said the woman, who was approximately 40 years old from the Paleostinian city of Tulkarem, was searched after she was shot and was found to be unarmed.
"During an initial interrogation, she said she had come to die, apparently because of a family situation," police said in a statement.
The woman sustained moderate injuries and received first aid at the scene before being taken to Petah Tikva’s Beilinson Hospital for treatment.

[RADIOSHABELLE] Somali security forces have conducted a covert operation in al-Shabaab ... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord... -controlled village in southern Somalia on 5th January of this new year.
The National Intelligence and Security Agency [NISA] said in a statement posted on its Twitter account that its personnel destroyed a base belonging to al-Shabaab in Dugulle.
NISA added that the special forces seized several snuffies during the night-time operation on their camp. There was no independent verification of the spy agency claims.
"The security forces have carried out on 5th January of this year an operation targeting al-Shabaab bastion in Dugulle area and destroyed it," said NISA in its statement.
NISA troops have in the past months stepped up operations, against al-Shabaab bases in the Lower Shabelle region of southern Somalia.
Last week, US military said it killed snuffies in the latest Arclight airstrikes in the region.

[DAWN] The Foreign Office (FO) on Monday summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner J P Singh to protest the latest "unprovoked ceasefire violations" by Indian border forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Bagsar sector which resulted in the death of a civilian, Radio Pakistain reported.
According to a blurb issued by FO Director General (South Asia and Saarc) Dr Muhammad Faisal, who also serves as the foreign ministry spokesperson, the firing at the LoC left civilian Azeem dead and caused injuries to a woman.
"The Indian forces along the Line of Control and the Working boundary are continuously targeting civilian populated areas with heavy weapons," the statement read, adding that this "unprecedented escalation" in ceasefire violations by India has been ongoing since 2017, a year during which they committed 1,970 such violations.
The statement termed the "deliberate targeting" of an area populated by civilians as "deplorable and contrary to human dignity, international human rights ...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty... and humanitarian laws".
It added that India's ceasefire violations were a threat to both regional peace and security, and "may lead to a strategic miscalculation".

[DAWN] A Senate committee was informed on Monday that 300 cases of child sexual abuse were registered in Islamabad over the last five years, while another 260 cases went unregistered.
Cases of child abuse have been on the rise in Pakistain. A report compiled by NGO Sahil last year reveals that more than 12 children are abused every day. Instances of child abuse rose 32 per cent in the first six months of 2018 compared to the corresponding period in 2017, it says.
A Ministry of Human Rights (MoHR) official earlier told Dawn that 3,445 cases of child abuse had been reported last year, according to data collected by NGOs.
Nuzhat Sadiq, the convener of the Senate special committee on the issue of increasing incidents of child abuse, raised concerns over human rights When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much... minister Shireen Mazari's absence from the committee's meeting today.
"The surge in cases of child sexual abuse is a very important matter. The human rights minister did not attend the last session either," Sadiq noted, adding: "This is very non-serious of her."
Ministry of Human Rights representatives told the Senate committee that Mazari "is at PM House" and were unsure whether she would be able to attend the session.

[KhaamaPress] The Afghan cops have discovered a munitions cache in Kabul city and confiscated dozens of small and heavy firearms.
The Ministry of Interior in a statement said the cache was discovered during an operation which was conducted based on an intelligence tip off.
The statement further added that the cache included four boxes of PKM machine gun munitions rounds, three boxes of Ak-47 munitions rounds, 3 boxes of RPG rockets, one box of grenades, and an Ak-47 rifle.
The cache was discovered from a residential house located in the the vicinity of the 10th police district of the city, MoI said.
No suspect has been tossed in the clink ... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not... so far but the police forces have launched investigations in this regard, the statement by MoI added.
This comes as the security forces have stepped up efforts to suppress the criminal gangs and anti-government armed elements in capital Kabul during the recent weeks.

[Washington Examiner] Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., Monday called on the Department of Justice to immediately halt federal funding to the Nation of Islam, after the Washington Examiner first reported that the group has received hundreds of thousands of dollars from the government to teach religious studies programs to prison inmates.
In a letter to the Justice Department obtained by the Washington Examiner, Buchanan called the report "disturbing" and said the government’s funding of the openly anti-Semitic black separatist group was "downright immoral."
"As you may know, the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center have designated the Nation of Islam as a hate group for its racist and anti-Semitic beliefs," Buchanan wrote in the letter to acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker.
"The federal government should not use taxpayer dollars to subsidize one of the most infamous hate groups in the United States," Buchanan added. "That’s why I’m demanding your department immediately cease all contracts with the Nation of Islam and prohibit it from receiving any contracts in the future."

At least 14 forces of Evil were killed and 2 others were maimed in a separate airstrike conducted in Mirabad Village in Qarghan district of Faryab, the 209th Shaheen Corps said, addingg that a fighting position of the forces of Evil was destroyed in the same airstrike.

In his presser, the coalition spokesperson said that the Houthis are digging trenches in Hodeidah, which indicates their intention not to implement Sweden’s agreement.
He displayed photos of the Houthis digging tunnels in al-Khouba area in the governorate of Hodeidah, stressing that the Arab coalition is providing its full support to humanitarian organizations, as well as the UN World Food Program, WFO.

[AnNahar] French police placed in durance vile You have the right to remain silent... a former professional boxer on Monday who was seen punching coppers during a "yellow vest" protest in Gay Paree, in shocking scenes that have highlighted the violence of recent protests.
The images filmed on Saturday show a heavily built man in a black duffel coat square up to several coppers before knocking them down in a hail of punches and kicking them on the ground.
One of the officers is then beaten by other protesters wearing yellow vests before he is rescued by fellow riot police in protective equipment and helmets.
The ex-boxer, identified by French media as 37-year-old Christophe Dettinger, is a former heavyweight professional fighter who reportedly works for the local government in the Essonne area south of Gay Paree.
Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said Dettinger, known in the ring as "The Gypsy From Massy", a town south of Gay Paree, had handed himself into police in the capital.
"He was immediately arrested and will be held accountable for his acts by the justice system," Castaner added.
Dettinger, the boxer, could face years in jail if convicted over his rampage on Saturday on the Leopold-Sedar-Senghor bridge which links the Tuileries gardens to the Musee d'Orsay in central Gay Paree.
Assaulting a police officer can lead to up to three years in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros (51,000 dollars), though sentences can be increased in certain circumstances.
The French boxing federation issued a statement condemning the violence, saying that it "ran completely contrary to the values of our sport."
"The French Boxing Federation sends its support to the family and loved ones of the officer who was a victim of this individual, but equally to all the security forces who have been on duty these last weeks," it said.

The ICC accused al-Werfalli of war crimes, crimes against humanity and summary executions and issued an arrest warrant of him in 2018.
The ICC's Prosecutor has more than once spoken at the UN Security Council on the matter, urging the authorities in Libya to arrest and surrender the war criminal al-Werfalli.
Last February, al-Werfalli said he surrendered to the Marij city's military prosecutor for the crimes he was charged with.
In the meantime, ICC front man Fadi El Abdallah told Alnabaa TV Channel that the arrest warrant of al-Werfalli is in place and is not affected by the Benghazi ruling.
El Abdallah renewed the call of the ICC on the Libyan authorities in the east to arrest and surrender al-Werfalli.

A combined team of secret police, soldiers and civil defence paramilitary stormed the office of the Daily Trust in the northern city of Maiduguri and whisked away its northeast regional editor Uthman Abubakar and news hound Ibrahim Sawab.
The team seized the journalists' laptops and mobile phones, the sources at the newspaper's headquarters in the capital Abuja said.
"The raid was in response to our cover story today on the military preparation to retake the town of Baga which was captured by Boko Haram last week," one source at the paper said.
"They came looking for our news hound Hamza Idris, who anchored the story, but arrested the two news hounds when they didn't find him," another source said.
Armed police have sealed the office, according to the sources and Maiduguri residents.
More than two dozen armed soldiers also raided the Daily Trust head office in Abuja on Sunday evening, sources at the newspaper added.
"Armed soldiers raided our head office this evening.
"It is a continuation of the crackdown that started in our Maiduguri office earlier today
"They stormed into the newsroom on the third floor and seized computers and laptops before ordering everyone to vacate the building.
"They have sealed the building. This means we will not be on the newstands tomorrow for the first time in 20 years," a source at the paper said.
According to the same sources, similar operations took place at the Lagos Daily Trust office at the same time.
The Daily Trust reported on December 31 that Boko Haram Death Eaters captured six localities in northern Borno state including Baga, disputing military claims that the jihadists were not in control of any territory in the region.
This followed a series of Boko Haram raids on military bases in the area.
Following the report the military issued a statement threatening to take action against "unscrupulous elements" and "inaccurate news reports by some sections of the media."
Soldiers carried out a similar raid on the same office in 2013 in a failed attempt Curses! Foiled again! to arrest Idris over another report the military deemed critical.
In November the Nigerian military threatened legal action for "fake news" after media reports stated much higher military casualties than the official toll from a Boko Haram raid on a military base in Metele village.

[Advocate] The body of another young black man has been found at the West Hollywood apartment of Ed Buck ‐ a prominent Democratic donor who allegedly has a fetish for drugging sex workers ‐ reports Wehoville.
Buck, a white man in his 60s, was investigated previously by authorities after the death of Gemmel Moore, who died of a methamphetamine overdose in Buck's home in July 2017. Since Moore's death was classified as an accidental overdose, numerous young black gay men have alleged that Buck has a fetish for shooting drugs into black men he picks up off the street or on hookup sites. Moore had written about Buck injecting him with dangerous drugs before his death.
"I’ve become addicted to drugs and the worst one at that," Moore wrote in his journal in December 2016. "Ed Buck is the one to thank. He gave me my first injection of crystal meth."
Buck claims he's not responsible for Moore's death and did not furnish him with drugs. The Los Angeles County District Attorney declined to file charges against Buck, saying there was "insufficient evidence."
The name of the person who died in Buck's home in the early hours of Monday has not been released. Wehoville described him as a young African-American man and featured a picture of a body being removed on a gurney.
Community activists like Jasmyne Cannick have accused Los Angeles officials of declining to prosecute Buck in 2017 thanks to his contributions to powerful politicians such as Hillary Clinton, California Gov. Jerry Brown, L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti, and numerous West Hollywood City Council members. Cannick is organizing a vigil and rally for tonight in front of Buck's home, at 1234 Laurel Ave.
"City Council members John D’Amico and Lindsey Horvath have reached out to City Manager Paul Arevalo, asking him to request that newly elected Sheriff Alex Villanueva put priority on investigating [the young man's] death," Wehoville reports. "Councilmember Lauren Meister also has pressed for the homicide division to investigate."

In July of last year, prosecutors declined to file charges against Buck in the death of Moore. According to a coroner's report, Buck's apartment was full of drug paraphernalia, including 24 syringes containing brown residue, five glass pipes with white residue and burn marks, a plastic straw with possible white residue, clear plastic bags with white powdery residue and a clear plastic bag containing a piece of crystal-like substance.
Gemmel Moore, 26, was found dead at Buck's West Hollywood apartment on July 27, 2017.
Moore's death initially was ruled an accidental methamphetamine overdose, but the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office re-opened the investigation after writings in Moore's journal implicated Buck in his drug use.

[DW] Police have launched an investigation after the Bremen state chairman of the far-right Alternative for Germany was attacked by three masked men. Frank Magnitz was knocked unconscious with a piece of wood.

Police are looking for three men who attacked and injured Frank Magnitz, party leader of the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) in the city state of Bremen.
A police report said the incident happened on Monday afternoon, near Bremen's Goetheplatz.
Magnitz, a member of Germany's lower house of parliament, was attacked by three masked men, AfD party officials said in a statement.
Magnitz had left a New Year reception hosted by local newspaper the Weser-Kurier shortly before.
He was knocked unconscious with a piece of wood and kicked in the head as he lay on the ground, the party said.
A construction worker was said to have intervened and stopped the attack.
The 66-year-old Magnitz was reported to be in hospital, having sustained "severe" injuries.
'POLITICALLY-MOTIVATED ACT'
Police said that, given Magnitz's position, they were treating the incidence as a "politically-motivated act." A probe has been launched by police and prosecutors, with Sherlocks appealing for witnesses.
Former Green Party co-leader Cem Özdemir was among several politicians who reacted with shock to the news.

[DW] The Trump administration has downgraded the diplomatic status of the European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... 's delegation to the United States, an EU official has confirmed to DW. The demotion happened at the end of last year without notice.
The unannounced move by the US State Department, which has not previously been reported, downgraded the EU delegation's diplomatic status in Washington from member state to international organization.
"We don't exactly know when they did it, because they conveniently forgot to notify us," an EU official who is familiar with the matter told DW in an interview.
It sounds like someone at State is being passive-aggressive about things. Those people don’t forget.
"I can confirm that this has not been well received in Brussels," the person said, adding that the issue and an official EU response was still being discussed.
After the delegation noticed that the EU's Washington ambassador had not been invited to certain events late last year, officials organizing the state funeral for President George H.W. Bush provided final confirmation to EU diplomats that the status of the representation had in fact been downgraded. Diplomats believe the downgrade must have been implemented in late October or early November.
After discovering the downgrade, EU diplomats in Washington reached out to the State Department, which is responsible for diplomatic affairs, for clarification. "They have told us that they forgot to notify us and that this is a decision they have taken because that is apparently what the chief of protocol thinks is the proper thing to do," the person said.
The EU official said the bloc ambassador's status in Washington was upgraded to the level of a nation state ambassador in September 2016, after a lengthy and intensive process by the State Department under former President Barack Obama Ready to Rule from Day One...

Turkey is set to host the Afghan peace talks in March. Abdulhakim Mujahid, the head of the Afghan Peace Council, believes it could be a turning point in the efforts to find durable peace in the war-torn country.
"Turkey is an important country, which can positively influence regional themes. Both the Afghan government and the Taliban ...mindless ferocity in a turban... have friendly relations with Ankara," Mujahid told DW.
Mujahid, however, did not elaborate what kind of ties exists between Turkey and the Taliban.

[SG.NEWS.YAHOO] Peru announced Monday it was barring entry to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his cabinet, increasing pressure on the socialist leader days ahead of his second-term inauguration.
The move announced by Peru's Foreign Minister Nestor Popolizio followed a decision Friday by 12 Latin American countries and Canada not to grant recognition to Maduro's hardline government following his controversial re-election in May.
Popolizio told Peru's RPP radio that Lima's immigration authority would be given "a list of all the members linked to the leadership of the Maduro regime, including family members, so that they cannot enter the country."
He said the measure would take effect immediately.
Popolizio said the ban would also include bank transfers from individuals named on the list.
The 14-member Lima Group met in the Peruvian capital Friday to discuss ways to step up pressure on Maduro's regime.
The Group, which includes Canada, called on Maduro to temporarily transfer power to the opposition-controlled National Assembly until free elections can be held.
However, a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package... Mexico -- under the new leftist government of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador -- refused to sign the statement.

Maybe Venezuela can start getting their respect next week?
[PJ] In recent years, certain advocacy groups have criticized private Jewish schools, generally known as yeshivoth, claiming that the schools provide a substandard education. At issue is the interpretation of a New York state law passed in the late 19th century that requires private schools to provide an education "substantially equivalent" to that offered in the public schools. Through the decades, the various private school networks, whether religious or non-sectarian, have managed to meet this vague requirement to the satisfaction of local authorities and the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
Until now. Under substantial pressure from an organization called Young Advocates for Fair Education (YAFFED), which has actually filed suit against NYSED to try to force the matter, NYSED recently issued detailed guidelines concerning its interpretation of "substantially equivalent." The guidelines contain a precise syllabus that must be followed, and also dictate how many hours per week are to be devoted to each of the secular subjects by grade level.
The result threw the world of private education in New York into a tizzy. Most glaringly, the guidance from NYSED required 35 hours a week of secular studies in grades 5 through 8 -- a requirement which would have left virtually no time for sacred studies, the raison d’être of religious schools.
Under intense public pressure via petitions, telephone calls, and emails, NYSED revised the guidelines. It eliminated the time requirements in grades 5 and 6, and cut the amount of time required for secular education in grades 7 and 8 roughly by half.
While that represented an improvement, it does not change the fact that suddenly, after over a century of peaceful co-existence, New York’s public education authority is attempting to dictate the content and form of secular education in private schools with different value systems.

I will note that this will only impact a small segment of ultra-Orthodox yeshivas. The Zionist Hebrew day schools, aimed at getting their students into Harvard, cover secular subjects more intensively than the public school curriculum requires.
[YeshivaWorld] In April 2016, New York State promised yeshivas and other private schools millions of dollars in funding for teaching science, technology and math.
A Yeshiva World News investigation has uncovered that more than two-and-a-half years later, the State has still not distributed the first dollar to a single institution.
But this is worse than merely taking credit for something and failing to follow through. Politicians do that all the time.
What the State engineered here was a far more devious and damaging bait-and-switch.
Earlier this year, the State solicited applications for the new STEM funding from private schools. As part of the application process, all the private schools had to complete a questionnaire asking questions about their curriculum and had to attach their daily schedule of classes.
Here’s what happened next:
The State didn’t give out any money, but it did issue new guidelines requiring yeshivas to transform their schedules and to change their curriculum.
As Yeshiva World News has previously reported, these new State guideline require yeshiva elementary schools to provide nearly seven hours a day of secular studies classes.
What chutzpah!
The State held out the promise of money to get yeshivas and other religious schools to share their curriculum and schedules, and then used that information to impose new regulations on yeshivas, and all without actually giving yeshivas a nickel.
The new guidelines for yeshiva curriculum were announced with great fanfare by the Education Commissioner at a press conference in which she threatened that if yeshivas do not comply with her edict, “parents would be notified they need to transfer students within a reasonable time frame of six weeks to two months,” and that “if a student remains at the school after that, they’d be considered truant and that’s another whole process that gets triggered.”

In a small room nearby a woman curls up in panic behind her desk. The gunman fires at her but misses so he takes an assault rifle out of one of the two bags he brought with him.
The door locks automatically before he opens fire and kicks it open. He walks toward her, fires three shots, two of them into her head.
Collapsing under her desk, Dominique Sabrier, a French volunteer in her sixties, becomes his fourth victim.
The gunman tucks away his weapon and leaves the museum without a word. Witnesses say he left the scene calmly before melting into the crowd on that spring Saturday afternoon.
Investigators say the four murders took only 82 seconds. The shooter fired a total of 13 shots, five from his handgun and eight from the Kalashnikov rifle.
In the following days, Belgian police send out an appeal for witnesses along with video images of the killer.
- GUNS ON A BUS -
Six days later, on May 30, 2014, a Eurolines bus plying the Amsterdam-Brussels-Marseille route arrives around midday in the southern French port city.
Three border control officers decide to carry out an unannounced check.
On board are 15 passengers, including a clean-shaven Frenchie in a suit and tie. It is Mehdi Nemmouche, who informs the authorities he has travelled from the Belgian capital.
On an empty seat not far away from Nemmouche, who is 29 at the time, an officer spots a plastic bag and a black bag that no passenger claims.
Opening the heavy bag, he finds an assault rifle.
The three officers then search the passengers. When Nemmouche, the third to be searched, raises his hands, they find a loaded pistol in his jacket pocket.
Immediately handcuffed without resisting, he allegedly admits to owning the two bags as well as the pistol and assault rifle.
- 'FIRE AND BLOOD' -
Investigators say both weapons were used at the museum.
The officers also seize from his bags 51 bullets for the pistol and 261 for the Kalashnikov as well as well as French-language newspapers with reports of the attack.
They also find a laptop containing footage in which a voice, believed to be his, claims responsibility for the murders.
"My jacket did indeed carry a camera... but unfortunately, to my great regret, the camera did not work that day," it says before adding: "It is only the start of a series of attacks on the city of Brussels.
"We are firmly determined to put this city under fire and blood."

Some Rohingya were also put in handcuffs after they attempted to resist their deportation to Bangladesh, according to voice notes sent to MEE.
The Rohingya man who filmed the footage said that the men who have been locked up in a Saudi detention centre for up to six years were being deported.
"I've been here for the last five to six years, now they are sending me to Bangladesh. Please pray for me," the man in the video said.
Another recording sent to MEE recounted the events that led up to Sunday's forcible removal.
"They came to our cells in the middle of the night at 12pm, telling us to pack our bags and get ready for Bangladesh," a Rohingya detainee, who wished to remain anonymous, told MEE.
"Now I am in handcuffs and being taken to a country I'm not from - I am Rohingya, not Bangladeshi."

[TheLocal.se] The trial of six Uzbek and Kyrgyz nationals accused of financing terrorism got under way in Stockholm on Monday, with three of them also charged with planning a terror attack.
"If the terrorist crime had been carried out, it could have seriously hurt Sweden," the prosecution said in its charge sheet.
The first day of the trial focused on the prosecution's claim that the six men sent funds to ISIS to finance its terrorism operations.
The prosecution argued that one of them men, 34-year-old Akromion Ergashev of Uzbekistan, sent almost 18,000 kronor ($2,000) to a middleman in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... , who in turn sent it to two ISIS supporters in Syria. The prosecution presented chats on encrypted mobile phone apps and account statements as evidence.
The other five suspects were identified in court documents as Uzbek nationals Bakhtior Umarov, 30, Gulom Tadjiyev, 39, Shoahmad Mahmudov, 24, and David Idrisson, 46, and 39-year-old Kyrgyz national Atabek Abdullayev.
Abdullayev, Idrisson and Umarov are also accused of planning a terror attack in Sweden. The prosecution believes they acquired large amounts of chemicals to make explosives, as well as gas masks, walkie-talkies and other military materials as part of their plot.
Photographs of crowded locations in Stockholm were found in some of the suspects' phones, suggesting they may have been possible targets, according to the prosecution.
During a police raid in Strömsund, 600 kilometres north of Stockholm, in late April, neighbours told the Dagens Nyheter newspaper they saw police removing about 15 large plastic chemical containers from a shed on an empty property.
One of the suspects is also believed to have been in contact with Rakhmat Akilov, a radicalized Uzbek asylum seeker who mowed down pedestrians in Stockholm with a stolen truck in April 2017, killing five people. Akilov was sentenced to life in prison in June 2018.
All six reject all of the charges against them.
The trial is taking place at a special high-security Stockholm courtroom, with the defendants sitting behind a bulletproof glass wall.
[TheLocal.se] A man has been sentenced to six years in prison and deportation from Sweden for raping a nine-year-old girl in a shed outside an apartment building.
The 30-year-old approached the girl as she was cycling home from her school in Malmö, then lured her into the shed, locked the door, pushed her to the floor and raped her. He then held the girl by the throat, and threatened to beat her if she didn’t stop screaming, according to a report in the Aftonbladet newspaper,
The girl told police that she had never seen her attacker before, leaving police struggling to find a lead. But the man turned himself in five days later, confessing fully to what he had done.
According to the court's judgement, the man, who is himself father to a 9-year-old, told police that he had been in the area where the attack took place because he wanted “to find a girl to rape”. It didn't matter to him, he added, if the girl was a child.
“The crime should be considered aggravated with regard to the defendant’s low age and that NN [the perpetrator] used both violence and the threat of criminal action,” the court said.
The judge and three lay jurors disagreed over the sentence, however, with one arguing that the man's punishment should be reduced because he had contacted police himself.
The man was also found guilty of two sexual offences committed when he was living in Skellefteå, northern Sweden, earlier in the autumn: sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl; and exposing himself to and groping a third woman.
He was also found guilty of robbery, knife crime, and petty drugs offences.

He said she had lost her senses and started behaving like a mentally unsound person.
The complainant told the police that when she was taken to a private doctor who referred her to psychiatry ward of Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad ... A pleasant city located only 30 convenient miles from Islamabad. The city is noted for its nice weather and good schools. It is the site of Pakistain's military academy, which was within comfortable walking distance of the residence of the late Osama bin Laden.... , where she remained admitted for several days. He accused the principal and the female teacher of hitting his daughter in the head which resulted in her developing psychological complications. On his complaint, the police had on Oct 28 started the paperwork but haven't done much else against the school head and the female teacher under section 13/34 of the Child Welfare Protection Act, 2010.
The accused had, however, obtained bail before arrest from the local court which was cancelled by additional sessions judge-II on Saturday, leading to arrest of both the accused from the courtroom.
The female teacher was sent to Haripur jail the same day, while the police produced the principal before the judicial magistrate for obtaining his physical remand, but the court declined to grant the same, and sent him on judicial remand on Sunday.
Meanwhile, ...back at the the conspirators' cleverly concealed hideout Montefiore's foot was still stuck and the hound had completely soaked his uniform with slobber... the school principal denied that he or any of the teachers of school had ever subjected the girl to corporal punishment. [IsraelTimes] Rwanda’s national airline will start operating regular flights to and from Israel in the coming months after the two countries on Monday signed a bilateral agreement as part of the Open Skies aviation reform.

Hassan Ali Hassan, 25, and Abdirahman Isse Ali, 22, were executed in the capital Mogadishu, the military confirmed on Monday.
They were captured by the police in early November 2016 when they tried fleeing the scene of the murder of the traditional chief, Hilowle Heefow Hussein.
The latest execution comes two weeks after a military court executed via firing squad a serial al-Shabaab bomber, Abdul Kadir Shaa’ir. The 41-year-old had been convicted of a series of bombings in 2017.
Somalia remains one of a handful of African countries that still apply the death penalty despite a hard fightback by activists.
Most African countries have the measure on their law books but they are hardly enforced. Most death penalties are commuted to life imprisonment.

[AFRICANEWS] Hundreds of protesters who marched in Sudan’s capital Khartoum on Sunday were dispersed by security forces with tear gas and stun grenades, as they attempted to reach the presidential palace.
Tear gas was fired towards crowds of men and women who chanted "Freedom" and "Peace"
Witnesses said security forces blocked Khartoum University professors and lecturers from coming out to join the protest, arresting at least eight.
The rest were forced to return into the faculty club house, where security forces surrounded the building trapping about 100 professors and lecturers inside for nearly three hours.
Although Sunday’s gathering drew smaller crowds, anti-government protests which began last month have overall posed the most serious challenge to President Omar al-Bashir Head of the National Congress Party. He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself president-for-life. He has fallen out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it. ’s rule.

Qahtani was fired in October, just days after the gruesome murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi came to light.
In November, the Kingdom confirmed that he was under investigation and banned from leaving the country. Since then there has been no official statement in the case, the Washington Post reported.
Saudi prosecutors allege that Qahtani played a major role in Khashoggi's killing inside Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2 last year. He was among 17 Saudis sanctioned by the US government over the murder.
Saudi officials say Prince Mohammed was not aware of the plot to kill Khashoggi, the Washington Post reported.
The US and western countries are watching the Saudi government's treatment of Qahtani as a measure of its seriousness in bringing to justice Khashoggi's killers, the paper reported.
A number of questions remain to be answered about Qahtani's involvement, including his role in planning the killing or whether he was framed.

[DAWN] Religious scholars, holy mans and caretakers of various shrines in the country have decried the practice of recklessly issuing fatwas (religious decrees) by some religious leaders and urged the government to devise a mechanism which could streamline the practice.
These observations were made at the ’Seerat-e-Rehmatul Aalameen Conference’ held here on Sunday under the aegis of the Pakistain Ulema Council (PUC).
A joint declaration issued at the conference underlined that people issuing decrees against the state institutions, the armed forces and the chief of the army staff were causing harm to the country. It termed such decrees a threat not only to the country, but also to Islam.
Titled Islamabad Declaration, the joint declaration said 2019 would be observed as the year to eradicate terrorism, extremism and sectarian violence from the country.
It said no political or religious party in the country should be allowed to do politics on the issue of the Finality of Prophethood.
The declaration pointed out that killings on the pretext of religious belief was against the teachings of Islam. It said all religious groups and sects denounced decrees for killings and the hard boy belief of some sections of society.
It said people of no sect of Islam could be declared infidel. No one ‐ Moslem or non-Moslem ‐ can be declared as punishable by death. Only courts could deliver a death sentence, it added.
According to the declaration, people belonging to all religions and sects in the country have equal constitutional rights and they can live in the country as per their cultural and traditional norms.
Speakers at the conference said that leaders of all religious groups had condemned decrees issued against security agencies and their leaderships, adding that they termed such decrees against the teachings of the Koran and Sunnah.
The speakers urged the government to devise a mechanism for putting a check on the practice of recklessly and immaturely issuing decrees, particularly those decrees which are related to some serious issues, such as the Finality of Prophethood.

[AP] KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) ‐ A Michigan man charged with killing six strangers between picking up rides for Uber pleaded guilty to murder on Monday, just before attorneys were set to interview jurors for his trial.
Jason Dalton’s surprise move came about three years after the shootings, which occurred over the course of a few hours in and around Kalamazoo. Dalton pleaded guilty to murder and attempted murder over his attorney’s objections, triggering a mandatory sentence of life in prison with no chance for parole on Feb. 5.
"Yes, I’ve wanted this for quite a while," Dalton replied when a judge asked if the pleas were voluntary.
The 48-year-old Dalton answered "yes" to a series of questions, admitting that he shot eight people at three locations. After his arrest, police quoted Dalton as saying a "devil figure" on Uber’s app was controlling him on the day of the shootings.
Four women were killed in the parking lot of a Cracker Barrel restaurant: Barbara Hawthorne, Dorothy "Judy" Brown, Mary Lou Nye and her sister-in-law, Mary Jo Nye. Rich Smith and his 17-year-old son, Tyler Smith, were fatally shot while looking at a pickup truck in a dealer’s lot.

She has been following this quite closely and was releived at the sudden turn of events yesterday.

[SG.NEWS.YAHOO] A special North Korean train entered China late Monday, Yonhap news agency reported, raising speculation that leader Kim Pudge Jong-un ...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished... could be on his way to Beijing.
The train crossed the border around 10.15 pm local time (1315 GMT) and was expected in the Chinese capital Tuesday morning, the Southern news agency reported, citing an informed source.
China is the isolated, nuclear-armed North's key diplomatic ally and main source of trade and aid, and Kim visited three times last year to pay his respects to leader Xi Jinping.
Until his first trip in March, Kim had not meet Xi for more than six years after inheriting power from his father, as relations between the neighbours once described as close as "lips and teeth" deteriorated.

[SG.NEWS.YAHOO] Gunmen opened fire in a crowded bar in the Mexican resort city of Playa del Carmen, killing seven people, authorities and media reports said Monday, in the latest violence to rock the country's tourist-magnet beaches.
"Six people bit the dust at the scene, and a seventh subsequently died while being taken to the hospital," the public security minister for the state of Quintana Roo, Alberto Capella, told TV network Televisa after the Sunday night attack.
Local media reports said the bar was about 10 minutes from the center of the main tourist zone, and was packed with revelers at the end of the Epiphany holiday weekend.
Playa del Carmen and nearby Cancun are the top tourist destinations in Mexico, famous for their turquoise waters and white-sand Caribbean beaches.
But they have been increasingly hit by violence as Mexico's powerful narco mobs fight for control of the area.
