Senate Republicans ignited the "nuclear option" to allow confirmation of President Donald Trump’s U.S. Supreme Court nominee and bar Democrats from blocking future picks, a dramatic rule change that could deepen partisan divisions and put more ideologically extreme justices on the court.

The 52-48 party-line vote called for by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell Thursday will let the Senate confirm Neil Gorsuch on Friday to take a court seat that Republicans refused to let President Barack Obama fill during his last year in office.

More blatherings from the insufferable Maxine Waters: 'Bill O'Reilly needs to go to jail'
[The Hill] Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) says Fox News host Bill O’Reilly should face jail time if he sexually harassed women.

"They have treated women very badly," she told host Chris Hayes on MSNBC’s "All In" late Wednesday while discussing O’Reilly and Fox News. "This really is a sexual harassment enterprise. They need to go to jail. Bill O’Reilly needs to go to jail."

"It shouldn’t be in America that you can sexually harass women and buy your way out of it because you’re rich."

Reports emerged last Saturday that five women accusing O’Reilly of harassment received a total of $13 million for agreeing not to pursue litigation or discuss their accusations.
The women, who were reportedly paid by either Fox News or O’Reilly himself, alleged complaints including verbal abuse, unwanted advances, lewd comments and indecent phone calls.

Government
We're From the Gubamint and We're Here to Help
A U.S. government program designed to convert farmland to wildlife habitat has triggered the spread of a fast-growing weed that threatens to strangle crops in America's rural heartland.
Is there nothing the Gubamint can't screw up?
The weed is hard to kill and, if left unchecked, destroys as much as 91 percent of corn on infested land, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). It is spreading across Iowa, which accounts for nearly a fifth of U.S. corn production and in 2016 exported more than $1 billion of corn and soy.
There go the ethanol subsidies.
The federal Conservation Reserve Program pays farmers to remove land from production to improve water quality, prevent soil erosion and protect endangered species.
The endangered species seems to be increasingly the American Farmer.
The destructive weed - Palmer amaranth ‐ has spread through seed sold to farmers in the conservation program, according to Iowa's top weeds scientist, Bob Hartzler, and the conservation group Pheasants Forever.
I think Tommy Chong is a top weed expert.
"We are very confident that some of these seed mixes were contaminated," Hartzler said.
It's also called pigweed. Pigs love it. There are many uses for amaranth seed.
Hartzler, an Iowa State University agronomy professor, said one seller was Allendan Seed Company, the state's largest producer of local grass and wildflower seeds for conservation land.

In written responses to questions from Reuters, Allendan said it was "possible that pigweed seed ... was present in some mixes."

Palmer amaranth is a type of pigweed. Allendan did not confirm it had found the seed in any of its supplies. It said outside labs that the firm hires to test seed quality had been unable to distinguish Palmer amaranath from other pigweeds.

The company said it started using a new DNA test in February to check its seed for Palmer amaranth.

Many farmers joined the conservation program in the past year as prices for their crops tanked amid a global grains glut. The weed can be killed, but the cost of clearing it would be another hit to the cash-strapped farming community in the United States, the world's top corn supplier.

The program is managed by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the Farm Service Agency (FSA), units of the USDA. NRCS officials have acknowledged that contaminated seed mixes for conservation land have spread Palmer amaranth.

In another state, Minnesota, authorities are also investigating whether the conservation program inadvertently introduced the weed to that state.

Keith Smith, a corn and soybean farmer in Gladbrook, Iowa, said he yanked Palmer amaranth out of land he set aside in the conservation program after finding the weeds last year.

He doused them in diesel and torched them with old tires.
Polluter!!
Smith now regrets joining the program.

"I thought I'd help out the Earth," he said.
You didn't figure in the Government.
The NRCS and FSA denied responsibility for the infestation because they do not supply or test the seed that farmers use to turn cropland into a refuge for wildlife. Landowners are responsible for finding their own seed.

None of the companies or organizations involved in the program should be blamed, said Jimmy Bramblett, the NRCS's deputy chief of science and technology. "It's just something that happened," he said.

The NRCS is nonetheless considering giving financial assistance to Iowa farmers to help control the weed and is working with the farming community and other government agencies to control it, Bramblett said.

#2  Thought amaranth was used as food. Have seen amaranth flour in the store--good source of protein for a plant. Is Palmer amaranth different than food quality amaranth? Just a question from an injuneer not a farmer.

#5  If the pigs love it, perhaps the farmers can hire pigherds to bring along a herd to preferentially eat the stuff. Transport would no doubt be a small challenge, but getting free feed plus a fee would invert the usual husbandry calculations... In California there are professional goatherds who hire out their animals eat the brushy weeds that feed wildfires -- 200 goats can clear an acre a day, according to one supplier.

It all began going dreadfully wrong 365 years ago today.
Founders Day or Van Riebeeck's Day was a formal public holiday of the Union of South Africa and the Republic of South Africa until 1994. The holiday was established on 6 April 1952 during the Van Riebeeck Festival in honour of the 300th anniversary of the arrival of the Dutch in South Africa. Jan van Riebeeck arrived at Table Bay on 6 April 1652 as a result Cape Town was founded. From 1980, the day became known as Founders Day (Stigtingsdag).

The holiday was abolished after the first universal franchise election in 1994 and the subsequent new constitution.

Yes, abolished by the communist African National Congress (ANC). Take note when your holidays and national monuments are taken away or replaced.

Rape victim in Muzaffarabad threatens to self-immolate if not served justice
[DAWN] The rape victim in Muzaffarabad, who had attempted to commit suicide after being physically abused by an influential person late last week, threatened to commit self-immolation along with her spouse and son if her tormentors are not brought to justice.

"We need nothing but justice... They [the main and co-accused] should be given exemplary punishment," said S* while talking to media persons on Wednesday.

The 25-year old victim, who is four months pregnant with her second child, was accompanied by her husband, H*, and mother.

"If we do not get justice, we will douse ourselves with [kerosene] oil and set ourselves on fire in front of the prime minister’s office," she added, as her spouses nodded in agreement.

S* was reportedly subjected to the crime by a man named Raja on the outskirts of Chikar, a famous hill resort in the constituency of AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider last Friday.

The provisional medical report confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted.

The victim was on her way home from a nearby village, where she had gone to see her sister, when the alleged accused, accompanied by two other persons, forced her to sit in his jeep.

After the co-conspirators got out of the jeep, the primary accused took the victim to a deserted shelter in the jungle and subjected her to sexual assault.

Later, the suspect dropped the victim near her home and threatened her with a terrible outcome if she approached the police.

The victim initially refrained from sharing the harrowing incident with her husband, H*, until the next morning. However,
a woman is only as old as she admits...
after being informed of the incident he advised her to forget about it, since they could do nothing to the tormentor due to his financial strength and tribal clout.

S* subsequently ingested poison in a bid to commit suicide and was eventually brought to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahayan (SKZN) Hospital in Muzaffarabad for further treatment.

The Chikar cop shoppe received information about the incident from hospital staffers on Monday, following which an assistant sub-inspector reached medical facility and recorded her statement regarding her ravishment.

Following her statement, the police registered an FIR and have since apprehended the main accused Raja.

On Wednesday, the suspect was produced before a judicial magistrate in Hattian Bala, and was remanded to police custody for one week for further investigation.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jhelum Valley Riaz Haider Bukhari told Dawn that the Deputy Superintendent Police and the concerned Station House Officer would conduct the interrogations jointly.

It should be noted that Raja Nayyar Naeem belongs to the clan of AJK Prime Minister Haider.

However,
a woman is only as old as she admits...
Raja Wasim, front man for the AJK premier, said in a brief statement that the accused "would be brought to justice."

Macron Slips Post Debate Making Him Tied With Le Pen
[BLOOMBERG] Emmanuel Macron slipped in the first poll taken exclusively after the second television debate in La Belle France’s presidential election, leaving him tied with the National Front’s Marine Le Pen in first-round voting intention.

Both Macron and Le Pen now have the support of 23.5 percent of voters, with Macron down two points in a week and Le Pen down 0.5 points, according to an Elabe poll of 995 voters conducted April 5.

With less than three weeks to go until the first round of voting, the two leading candidates are maintaining their position ahead of the rest of the pack. Even so, public opinion remains fluid and third-placed Francois Fillon had his best showing in a month with 19 percent support. That leaves him a smaller gap with the two front-runners than at any time since February.

Le Pen would lose to both Macron and Fillon in the runoff vote scheduled for the two finalists on May 7, the Elabe poll showed.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Principal Resigns After Students Investigate Her Credentials
[HOSTED.AP.ORG] An incoming high school principal has resigned in Kansas after student news hounds investigated and raised questions about her credentials.

The Pittsburg School Board accepted Amy Robertson's resignation on Tuesday, saying she felt the decision was "in the best interest of the district ... in light of the issues that arose."

The main concern stemmed from her receiving her master's and doctoral degrees from Corllins University, an unaccredited, online school. Robertson said she received her degrees before the university lost accreditation.

"She was going to be the head of our school, and we wanted (to) be assured that she was qualified and had the proper credentials," Trina Paul, a student editor at Pittsburg High School's newspaper, The Booster Redux, told The Kansas City Star. "We stumbled on some things that most might not consider legitimate credentials."

Superintendent Destry Brown praised the student news hounds, saying: "I appreciate that our kids ask questions and don't just accept something because somebody told them." He told the Pittsburg Morning Sun they "did a great job with the research they did."
They did the job you should have done...
Robertson, who currently works with an education consulting firm in Dubai, said in an email to The Kansas City Star there was "no issue" when she received the degrees from Corllins in 1994 and 2010. She declined to comment on questions posed by the students about her credentials because, she said, "their concerns are not based on facts."

Feel-good story of the day: Dog saves wedding party from suicide bomber
[Mirror] A heroic dog at an African wedding has saved guests from a suicide bomber after fighting with the terrorist until her explosives detonated.

Officials have reportedly revealed the dog belonged to a guest at the wedding in the town of Belbelo, Nigeria.

But the pooch intercepted the suicide bomber, described by local officials as a female in her teens.

The bomber had been attempting to infiltrate the crowd when the dog arrived to save the day.

The interception triggered the girl to detonate the bomb while it was strapped around her body.

The blast killed the bomber and the dog, Nigeria police spokesperson in Borno, Victor Isuku, confirmed to local media.

The incident occurred a few hours after the killing of three suicide bombers in two foiled suicide attacks in nearby towns and is the latest in the region of northeastern Nigeria.

Young girls are being used in suicide bomb attacks in the region of the country around the town of Maiduguri by the Boko Haram jihadist insurgency.

Germany to crack down on immigrant child brides, underage marriages
[RT] Germany’s government has moved to stamp out child marriages by drafting a law that will raise the age of consent to 18 and give authorities the ability to break up unions involving minors. The law is an effort to tackle underage marriages prevalent in some immigrant communities, according to local reports, after the Federal Ministry of the Interior released statistics showing 1,475 foreign children had been documented as married last year.

Iraq
A Peshmerga brigade of Turkmens to be established
[Iraq News] A Kurdish MP stated that a brigade of Turkmens will be created within the Peshmerga forces, saying that Peshmerga needs to be composed of all Kurdistan Region entities as it does not belong to Kurds alone.

Shakhawan Abdullah, a Kurdish member of the Iraqi parliament, told BasNews a Peshmerga brigade from Turkmens will be established, noting that Peshmerga should contain all components of the Kurdistan Region, given the fact that Peshmerga does not only belong to Kurds.

He stated that a Peshmerga brigade consisting entirely of Arabs who have recently concluded their training will soon begin to operate within the Peshmerga forces.

The financial crisis in the Kurdistan Region has been a barrier to the creation of a Peshmerga unit for Turkmens otherwise this would have happened a long time ago, said the official. He noted that the Peshmerga brigade for Turkmens will be created in the near future.

He added that multi-ethnic components within Peshmerga shows the force is not against any entity and equally protects all of them.

"IS killed each of Mohsen Zakariya al-Jabouri, Mete’b Attallah and Qahtan Najaf al-Shibli, in the aftermath of internal disputes among the bully boys," Captain Jasem Mohammed told BasNews on Wednesday.

The victims were rubbed out in Mesherfa region, west of Mosul.

Islamic State fighters, who have shown fierce resistance over the past months, weakened as operations in the east neared their end. Some reports indicate serious divisions and infighting within its ranks. Other reports had said that the group sentenced some of its fighters to death for delinquency on the battlefield.

Trump claims Susan Rice may have committed crime
[THEHILL] President Trump on Wednesday claimed that former President Barack Obama
That’s just how white folks will do you....
’s national security adviser Susan Rice may have committed a crime by requesting the identities of Trump associates who were mentioned in U.S. surveillance, though he did not provide proof.

Rice has denied leaking the names of Trump associates and denied she did anything improper.

Asked by The New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
if Rice committed a crime, Trump said, "Do I think? Yes, I think."

Trump did not present any evidence to support that claim.
"I think it’s going to be the biggest story," Trump said. "It’s such an important story for our country and the world. It is one of the big stories of our time."

#8  From what I read, as far as we know at this point: * What Rice did was legal, but unethical.
* What Obama did to allow intelligence agencies to spread stuff far and wide was legal, but unethical.
* If there was collision between those two decisions (If Rice was acting under orders) then the combo would be illegal tampering into an election. If the orders were verbal and unrecorded (as seems likely) we'll never get to the bottom of it.

Angry rhino charges at conservationists seconds after release into wild
[RT] A rambunctious rhino was filmed charging at conservationists riding on elephants, moments after they had released it back into the wild.

The rare one-horned rhinoceros, also known as the Indian rhino, was one of five being released into Nepal’s Chitwan National Park to help boost the population of the dying breed.

Forest workers climbed onto the roof of the van that transported the rhino as the huge mammal rammed into the vehicle and charged at conservationists.

This particular rhino is the only male being relocated to the area, while four females will be released later this week, in an attempt to continue the conservation push that increased the number of one-horned rhinos from 100 in the later part of last century to the 645 believed to be living in Chitwan National Park now.

Although rhinos once freely roamed across Eurasia and Africa, very few now survive outside of national parks and reserves. Two species in Asia – Javan and Sumatran rhinos – are considered critically endangered.

N.J. woman enraged by 'fancy white people' attacks man, Porsche with hammer
[NJ] A Newark woman enraged by "fancy white people" is being sought for allegedly attacking a man with a hammer and smashing his Porsche and boat at a gas station in what Virginia police described as a racially-motivated attack Saturday.

Angela M. Jones, 26, faces potential hate crime charges after allegedly beating the man at an Exxon Station off Interstate 95 in Caroline County, Va., according to WTVR.com.

Jones has not been located or locked away
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
as of 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to a front man for the New Jersey State Police.

The incident began when Jones approached the Massachusetts man as he fueled his Porsche and began yelling at him, authorities told the television station.

When the man tried to ignore her, she began bashing his boat and Porsche with a hammer, the report said. He was then struck in the face with the hammer several times when he approached her, authorities told the television station.

Some of her comments referred to him being rich and white, the report said. Jones, who is black, also said she was "sick of fancy white people," the man told the television station in an interview.

Science & Technology
Ubuntu Unity is dead: Desktop will switch back to GNOME next year
[ARSTECHNICA] Six years after making Unity the default user interface on Ubuntu desktops, Canonical is giving up on the project and will switch the default Ubuntu desktop back to GNOME next year. Canonical is also ending development of Ubuntu software for phones and tablets, spelling doom for the goal of creating a converged experience with phones acting as desktops when docked with the right equipment.
After producing what was probably the most comfortable desktop interface ever to date in Ubuntu 10.04 with Gnome 2.x, Canonical invented Unity, which made the desktop more like using a phone in anticipation of edging into the phone business. This was about the same time Android was shoving Blackberry out of its preeminent position. Opinion was unanimous: Unity sucked. It'll be eight years -- during which other Ubuntu developed operating systems have grown specifically because Unity was so bad. I still use Ubuntu on all my personal machines, but with xfce desktop. Since Gnome 3.x slurps just about as bad as Unity, if Canonical was paying me large dollars I'd suggest they go with that as the default desktop.
Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth explained the move in a blog post today. "I’m writing to let you know that we will end our investment in Unity8, the phone and convergence shell," he wrote. "We will shift our default Ubuntu desktop back to GNOME for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS," which will ship in April 2018.

This is a return to the early years of Ubuntu, when the desktop shipped with GNOME instead of a Canonical-developed user interface. Shuttleworth's blog post didn't specifically say that phone and tablet development is ending. But Canonical Community Manager Michael Hall confirmed to Ars that the Ubuntu phone and tablet project is over.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Russia says Syria gas incident caused by rebels’ own chemical arsenal
[Iraq News] Russia’s defense ministry said on Wednesday that a poisonous gas contamination in the Syrian town of Khan Sheikhoun was the result of gas leaking from a rebel chemical weapons depot after it was hit by Syrian government Arclight airstrikes.
On the other hand, no rebel chem weapons depots seem to have been hit in Iraq.
The United States has blamed the administration of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Terror of Aleppo ...
for the attack, in which scores of people are reported to have been killed.

"Yesterday, from 11:30 am to 12:30 p.m. local time, Syrian aviation made a strike on a large terrorist ammunition depot and a concentration of military hardware in the eastern outskirts of Khan Sheikhoun town," Russian defense ministry front man Igor Konoshenkov said in a statement posted on YouTube.

"On the territory of the depot there were workshops which produced chemical warfare munitions."

He said the chemical munitions had been used by rebels in Aleppo last year. "The poisoning symptoms of the victims in Khan Sheikhoun shown on videos in social networks are the same as they were in autumn of the previous year in Aleppo," Konoshenkov said.

[ALMASDARNEWS] The Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA) has announced the liquidation of a prominent Free Syrian Army commander.

The FSA quickly blamed Tahrir al-Sham, otherwise known as al-Qaeda in Syria, for the liquidation of Ahmad al-Soud. The terrorist group has not yet grabbed credit for the attack yet.

Soud was the commander of the Free Syrian Army’s 13th Division, and was shot near the village of Khan-al-Subul while driving in a vehicle.

This liquidation of the prominent commander has the potential to make bully boy-held Idlib descend back into a civil war that has continually plagued the province since they rapidly invaded it in 2015.

Grand Mufti calls for return of Tawergha IDPs
[Libya Observer] Libya’s Grand Mufti Sheikh al-Sadiq al-Ghariani
...Libyan Moslem Brüderhood Grand Mufti since 2012. Issued a fatwa forbidding Libyan women from marrying foreign men. Issued a "fatwa against a UN Commission on the Status of Women's report because it urged governments to protect women and girls against violence" Aligned with the GNC govt...
said on Wednesday the issue of Tawergha IDPs is a tragedy in every sense of the word and that the Fatwa House had paid much attention to it from the very beginning.

Speaking in his weekly program on Tanasuh TV, he indicated that banning the entire people of Tawergha from returning to their homes is great injustice, demanding the Tawerghans to hand over the criminals, who committed atrocities in Misrata in 2011, to stand trial.

"I urge Misrata people to punish the criminals only and allow others to return home," he said.

"A team from the Fatwa House had visited the camps of Tawergha IDPs and saw the miserable life they are going through," he added.

The Mufti revealed that the previous government of Ali Zidan had turned a deaf ear to a request to build prefabricated houses for around 1000 Tawerghan families by a local construction company.

"The manager of the construction company told me each house would cost around LYD 30.000 and he wanted a piece of land from the government to build the houses on it." He remarked.

The Mufti disclosed that he had forwarded the offer of the construction company to then-Prime Minister Ali Zidan and his minister of housing, but they did not respond.

Tawergha has become a ghost town since 2011 after hundreds of its residents joined Qadaffy brigades in their offensive on Misrata. Heinous crimes were committed by the slain dictator’s brigades against Misratan families including killing, torture and rape.

Somalia: Seven killed in Mogadishu car bombing

The kaboom occurred at lunchtime on Wednesday at a restaurant near the ministries of internal security and youth.

"Seven people, most of them in the coffee shop, were killed in the blast. We carried maimed bodies into the hospital," police officer Hussein Ahmed told Al Jazeera, adding at least eight others were maimed.

9yo girls 'physically & spiritually' ready to marry -- Malaysian MP
[RT] Girls as young as nine are "physically and spiritually" ready for marriage, a Malaysian MP says, also claiming there’s "nothing wrong" with females marrying their rapists. It comes after Malaysia failed to criminalize child marriage in a recent law.

"They reach puberty at the age of nine or 12. And at that time, their body is already akin to them being 18 years old. So physically and spiritually, it is not a barrier for the girl to marry," Shabudin Yahaya, a member of the Barisan Nasional Coalition, told Parliament on Tuesday, as quoted by Rooters.

He went on to say there is "nothing wrong" with a rape victim marrying the man who raped her, as doing so would allow her to avoid a "bleak future."

"Perhaps through marriage they can lead a healthier, better life. And the person who was raped does not necessarily have a bleak future. She will have a husband, at least, and this could serve as a remedy to growing social problems," he said, as quoted by Malaysian newspaper the Star.

Shabudin's comments have prompted outrage online, including from fellow government minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan, who said he received the comments with "utter shock and disappointment."

China-Japan-Koreas
Military nightmare scenario brewing in the East China Sea
[CNBC] A dispute over islands in the East China Sea could be a trigger point for something bigger A dispute over islands in the East China Sea could be a trigger point for something bigger

OKINAWA-While the world watches mounting military tensions in the South China Sea, another, more ominous situation is brewing in the East China Sea that could be the trigger point for a major war between the superpowers. At the heart of tensions are eight uninhabited islands controlled by Japan that are close to important shipping lanes, rich fishing grounds and potential oil and gas reserves. China contests Japan's claims and is escalating its military activity in Japan airspace. In response, Japan has been doubling its F-15 jet intercepts.

The situation increases the risk of an accidental confrontation -- and could draw other countries, like the United States, into a conflict. It's a topic President Trump will likely bring up with Chinese President Xi Jinping at his Mar-a-Lago estate this week.

From the departure lounge at Naha International Airport on the Japanese island of Okinawa, passengers can easily see what's going on. Between the regular comings and goings of commercial airliners, first one, then two, then two more F-15 fighter jets streak down the runway that Japanese Air Self Defense Forces (JASDF) share with Naha's regular airline traffic. Rising rapidly from the tarmac, the quartet of combat aircraft heads out to sea to intercept yet another Chinese military aircraft -- usually other fighter jets, sometimes a bomber or reconnaissance plane -- flying into or close to Japanese airspace.

#1  If I understand correctly the value of the South China sea is the oil that lies beneath it (that China, Vietnam, and the Philippines all lay claim to). What I don't understand is how anyone could drill that oil at this point and make a profit.

The oil economy is faltering because of fracking prices and if it comes to conflict between China and anybody any oilfields in the South China Seas are going to be big juicy targets.

We should get them into a meeting and arrange to give Vietnam and Philippines a cut to make everyone happy and then let themselves handicap themselves. I must be missing something but it seems a no brainer.

The American Thinker: Crime Is the New Black Entitlement
[American Thinker] As long as black people are permanent victims of relentless white racism, cops should not chase them, juries should not convict them, judges should not sentence them, schools should not punish them, and white victims should not complain about the black crime and violence so wildly out of proportion.

This is what a growing number of lawmakers, professors and, of course, reporters are prescribing as a way to "improve the way our system serves justice."

The latest came on NPR a few days ago when Georgetown Law professor and former federal prosecutor Paul Butler broke it down for the racially unenlightened:

"If you go to criminal court in D.C., you would think that white people don’t commit crimes," Butler said. "White people don’t use drugs, they don’t get into fights, they don’t steal, because all you see are African American people."

Before you pack your child off to Georgetown Law school -- or if you usually do not believe something too ridiculous to be true -- you might want to hear the distinguished professor wax at length on this video: Racial Jury Nullification at Georgetown Law.

One group of "African American people" Butler will never see in a D.C. court are the black people who beat the white husband of an NPR executive into a bloody, broken mess on the D.C. Metro line. You can find the details here from my account at the American Thinker, but not from NPR, which never covered it. NPR Another Victim of Black Violence and Denial.

Neither will Butler find the black people who attacked the NPR producer from Kentucky, in D.C. on company business. You can find the details of that in the scintillating best seller Don’t Make the Black Kids Angry. But not on NPR.

And yes, professor, black criminality is just as wildly out of proportion in Washington as it is in the rest of country. Even more so.

Butler says there are two justice systems in America, one for white people and one for black. He proposes to correct this inequity with a system of racial jury nullification to promote the new entitlement of black criminality: "I encourage any juror who thinks the police or prosecutors have crossed the line in a particular case to refuse to convict."

2. This is nothing new folks. The outcry by the various factions of the left after the Trayvon Martin incident, Ferguson, etc., and NPR's willful refusal to cover the Christian-Newsome murders, are motivated by a simply defined narrative: black people should be allowed to do ANYTHING they want to whites, including rape and murder, and whites should not be allowed to resist or respond in any way.

Government
Former Ranger Instructor Calls For Army To Create Urban Warfare School
[Daily Caller] Army Maj. John Spencer, a scholar the Modern War Institute, argued Wednesday the Army needs to create a school of urban warfare as soon as it possibly can.

Global trends make conflict in urban areas much more likely in the future, but Spencer noted in an opinion piece for the institute at West Point that the Army has not adequately prepared its soldiers to fight in this environment, which means that the service is violating one of its ten core principles.

For Spencer, the way to fix this major gap is to create a school of urban warfare.

As pointed out recently by Army chief of staff Gen. Mark Milley, "Army forces operating in complex, densely populated urban terrain in dense urban areas is the toughest and bloodiest form of combat and it will become the norm, not the exception in the future."

And yet, Spencer said the Army is woefully underprepared at this point to effectively fight in dense urban areas, which feature endless enemy positions, civilians mixed in with combatants, narrow alleys and close-quarter firefights.

"The Army is fighting in cities today," Spencer wrote. "It will find itself fighting in cities in the future. It is time to commit to preparing soldiers for this environment. To do so, the Army needs a school that provides soldiers the opportunity to build necessary skills, feel the stress, and mentally prepare for the hell of urban warfare -- before combat."

As it stands now, soldiers receive training on breaching small buildings and only sometimes get the chance to participate in live-fire exercises in houses. While it’s true that many soldiers have fought in locations like Baghdad, Fallujah and Ramadi, new units and new soldiers coming into the service lack this experience and have to start from scratch.

In WW2 the Germans were astounded that the US Army was so concerned with line straightening that we had to clear the Hurtgen Forest. They then moved one good Infantry Division supported by totally green Volksgrenadier in there and lets us bleed ourselves white. Syrian-trained Hamas agent nabbed by Shin Bet
[Ynet] 23-year-old resident of the West Bank tossed in the calaboose on suspicion of working as a Hamas recruiter and plotting terrorist activity against Israel; he was indicted several days ago and charged with crimes against national security.

A resident of Qalqilya, 23-year-old Malak Nazar Youssef Kazmar was locked away
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
two months ago by the Shin Bet and the IDF on the suspicion of recruiting people to the Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, and plotting deadly terror attacks against Israelis.

According to the Shin Bet, it emerged during his interrogation that Kazmar, who had lived in Turkish Cyprus for the last few years, had been recruited by Hamas while he was in Jordan in August 2015 and sent to a military training camp in Syria in January 2016.

In the Syrian military camp, Kazmar learned to shoot and underwent theoretical training on the production of bombs.

In January 2017, shortly before he returned to the West Bank, he met with Hamas operatives in Istanbul who instructed him to recruit additional Hamas agents who were residing in Israel.

Kazmar was arrested upon his return to the West Bank however, before he could implement the instructions he was given.

During his interrogation, Kazmar turned over the contents of an encrypted memory card that he had received from his operators in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, which contained extensive security guidelines and information intended to assist him in carrying out his missions.

He was indicted several days. He was charged with crimes against national security.

The Shin Bet has stated that the "Hamas leadership continues to be assisted by activists who return to the West Bank to promote terrorist activity, while its leaders operate without interference in various countries abroad."

Palestinian shot during IDF arrest sweep near Bethlehem
[IsraelTimes] Rioters attack forces with Molotov cocktails and rocks during operation to detain three terror suspects.

A Paleostinian man was shot overnight Tuesday during an Israeli operation to arrest terror suspects in the Deheishe refugee camp outside Bethlehem.

The IDF said in a statement that rioters attacked soldiers with Molotov cocktails and stones as they carried out the arrests operation south of Jerusalem.

Soldiers opened fire, hitting the man and injuring him. He was brought to the Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem for treatment to his injuries.

Three men were jugged

The Paleostinian Ma’an News Agency reported that the injured man was Akram al-Atrash, 23, and that he was at death's door after suffering three gunshot wounds.

Local sources identified the arrested men as Moatasem Rkabban, Ahmed Macadam, and Ahmed Sarawi, the report said.

Three other Paleostinians were arrested in other areas of the West Bank. One suspect, detained in Qalandiya refugee camp, was a wanted Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", activist, according to the IDF statement.

Five of those arrested were detained for being involved in "popular terror," the army said, employing a catch-all term used for festivities with security forces, rock throwing and other low-level violence.

All of the detainees were taken away for questioning.

Security forces also found a metal lathe used to manufacture illegal weapons in the town of Kafr ad-Dik. The lathe was confiscated by security forces, the IDF statement said.

Taliban attack kills 6 in Pakistan, including census workers
[FOXNEWS] A Taliban jacket wallah struck a vehicle carrying census workers in eastern Pakistain on Wednesday, killing two data collectors and four soldiers who were escorting them, officials said.

The attack took place on the outskirts of Lahore, said Malik Ahmad Khan, the provincial government front man. A local police official, Mohammad Afzal, said that 15 other people were maimed in the blast, which damaged nearby shops.

Mohammad Khurasani, a front man for the Pak Taliban, grabbed credit for the attack, saying the group sought to target Pakistain's "impure army," which he called a "slave of America." The bad boy group's chief, Mullah Fazlullah
...son-in-law of holy man Sufi Mohammad. Known as Mullah FM, Fazlullah had the habit of grabbing his FM mike when the mood struck him and bellowing forth sermons. Sufi suckered the Pak govt into imposing Shariah on the Swat Valley and then stepped aside whilst Fazlullah and his Talibs imposed a reign of terror on the populace like they hadn't seen before, at least not for a thousand years or so. For some reason the Pak intel services were never able to locate his transmitter, much less bomb it. After ruling the place like a conquered province for a year or so, Fazlullah's Talibs began gobbling up more territory as they pushed toward Islamabad, at which point as a matter of self-preservation the Mighty Pak Army threw them out and chased them into Afghanistan...
, who is believed to be hiding in Afghanistan, ordered the attack, the front man said.

Elsewhere in Pakistain, two gunnies shot and killed a former Mighty Pak Army colonel in southern city of Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, said police official Rao Rafiq. Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain. LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. They are currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of al-Qaeda ...
, a Pak group linked to the Taliban and al-Qaeda, grabbed credit in a text message sent to an News Agency that Dare Not be Named news hound.

Did the Obama Administration's Abuse of Foreign-Intelligence Collection Start Before Trump?

[TabletMag] At some point, the administration weaponized the NSA’s legitimate monitoring of communications of foreign officials to stay one step ahead of domestic political opponents," says a pro-Israel political operative who was deeply involved in the day-to-day fight over the Iran Deal. "The NSA’s collections of foreigners became a means of gathering real-time intelligence on Americans engaged in perfectly legitimate political activism--activism, due to the nature of the issue, that naturally involved conversations with foreigners. We began to notice the White House was responding immediately, sometimes within 24 hours, to specific conversations we were having. At first, we thought it was a coincidence being amplified by our own paranoia. After a while, it simply became our working assumption that we were being spied on."

This is what systematic abuse of foreign-intelligence collection for domestic political purposes looks like: Intelligence collected on Americans, lawmakers, and figures in the pro-Israel community was fed back to the Obama White House as part of its political operations. The administration got the drop on its opponents by using classified information, which it then used to draw up its own game plan to block and freeze those on the other side. And--with the help of certain journalists whose stories (and thus careers) depend on high-level access--terrorize them.

Once you understand how this may have worked, it becomes easier to comprehend why and how we keep being fed daily treats of Trump’s nefarious Russia ties. The issue this time isn’t Israel, but Russia, yet the basic contours may very well be the same.

Rift in Lashkar-e-Taiba as top commanders Hafiz Saeed, Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi fall apart
[INDIATODAY.INTODAY.IN] Top Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
(LeT) commanders Hafiz Saeed
...founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and its false-mustache offshoot Jamaat-ud-Dawa. The United Nations declared the JuD a terrorist organization in 2008 and Hafiz Saeed a terrorist as its leader. Hafiz, JuD and LeT are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Pak intel apparatus, so that amounted to squat...
and Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi are at loggerheads over issues pertaining to fanning unrest in Kashmire. Intelligence reports with the Indian security agencies reveal that the banned fissures have emerged in the banned terror group with differences cropping up between two of its top commanders.

A report in Hindustan Times claimed that Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, Lashkar's operations commander who played a major role in plotting the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, has 'got certain issues' with Saeed, who criminal masterminded the November 26, 2008 attacks. Saeed, founder of Jamaat-ud-Daawa, a front face of Lashkar, was put under house arrest by Pak authorities in January following immense international pressure.

According to intelligence inputs, Lashkar may be preparing to launch a major attack in India as Lakhvi has asked most of his loyalists to shift base to Pakistain occupied Kashmire. "Lakhvi has shifted most of his loyalists to PoK. Inputs reveal that Lashkar has decided to not use its name in its actions in Kashmire," the report in Hindustan Times quoted intelligence reports as saying.

The report also mentions that Lashkar has directed its operatives not to use the terror group's name in future attacks in India instead issue blurbs in the name of 'Quit Kashmire Movement'. The move is aimed at giving an impression of involvement of some home grown terror group.

Intelligence inputs also said that terrorist groups are plotting to assassinate separatist leaders in Kashmire Valley to fan further turmoil in the region.

The Kashmire Valley has witnessed a rise in stone pelting incidents following the death of terror 'poster boy' Burhan Wani's killing in an encounter in July, 2016. Indian security agencies have established that terror groups like Lashkar, Hizbul Mujahideen and others are fanning unrest in th region by inciting the youth.

At the age of 39, Haley is the youngest current governor in the U.S., a distinction formerly held by Jindal. She is a Republican, which really grates on the Dems...
warned on Wednesday during a U.N. Security Council meeting that countries could be "compelled to act" individually if the world body does not take collective action after a deadly poison gas attack in Syria.

Western countries blamed Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Trampler of Homs...
's armed forces for the attack in the town of Khan Sheikhoun in a rebel-held area of northern Syria hit by government air strikes. Syria's government denied responsibility.

The council is considering a draft resolution condemning the attack but Russia opposes it. British U.N. Ambassador Matthew Rycroft said negotiations were continuing on the text but a vote was unlikely on Wednesday.

"Assad, Russia and Iran have no interest in peace," Haley told the 15-member Security Council. "The illegitimate Syrian government, led by a man with no conscience, has committed untold atrocities against his people.

"When the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
consistently fails in its duty to act collectively, there are times in the life of states that we are compelled to take our own action," said Haley. She did not signal what sort of action could be taken.

The gas attack killed at least 70 people, many of them children.

In February, Syrian ally Russia, backed by China, cast its seventh veto to protect Assad's government from council action, blocking a bid by Western powers to impose sanctions over accusations of chemical weapons attacks.

terror group were killed while 32 soldiers were maimed, including an Army battalion commander and a junior officer, in a clash on the island province of Sulu in restive Mindanao, the military confirmed on Tuesday.

Major General Carlito Galvez, the chief of the military’s Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) identified the maimed officers as Lieutenant Colonel William George Cordova, the head of the Army’s 41st Infantry Batttalion and First Lieutenant Joe Mari Landicho.

Galvez said the two officers were among the 32 soldiers maimed in an hour-long heavy fighting clash with about 80 Abu Sayyaf murderous Moslems in a mountain village in the town of Talipao, Sulu on Sunday morning.

He added Cordova and Landicho suffered minor wounds but one of the soldiers was at death's door with a bullet wound in the head and was immediately airlifted to the military hospital at the Westmincom headquarters in Zamboanga City.

Cordova headed a military team immediately dispatched to the mountain village in Talipao after receiving a tip from concerned residents that about 80 murderous Moslems were in the area along with their Filipino and foreign hostages including Indonesian and Vietnamese sailors, according to Galvez.

"The Abu Sayyaf enjoyed the advantage of being on higher ground as they fired MO3 grenade launchers at the approaching soldiers," Galvez said but added the soldiers countered by using 105mm howitzers until the bandidos gunnies withdrew. He also vowed they would continue their intensified "search and destroy" operations until they have rescued the estimated 30 Filipinos and foreigners still being held hostage by the Abu Sayyaf.

in Sirte and had been held in detention since the jihadist group lost the city in December.

The group, all but two of whom are women and kiddies, beat feet from Sirte, a former Islamic State stronghold in central Libya, while forces from the nearby city of Misrata battled to oust the bully boyz late last year.

Some of the women were on their way to Europe when Islamic State fighters kidnapped and held them as sex slaves.

After they beat feet from Sirte, they were investigated for possible ties to the group and held for several months in a Misrata prison.

Rooters has documented how Islamic State used enslaved refugee women to reward its fighters in Libya. In stories published last year, the women recounted how the group forced them to convert to Islam and sold them as sex slaves.

In November, a Rooters news hound visited some of the captives at a military post in Misrata. Their new captors, the women said then, starved and humiliated them. At least one woman, a 16-year-old, was pregnant and in need of urgent care.

The Libyan attorney-general's office announced that it had cleared the women of any wrongdoing in mid-February, but their release was delayed for several more weeks, with no explanation.

On Wednesday, they were received by staff from the U.N. refugee agency (UNHCR) and the Libyan Red Islamic Thingy, before being taken to a shelter for medical checks.

"I'm very happy, I can't describe how I feel, but I am very happy, I can start a new life and see my family again," one 14-year-old Eritrean girl told Rooters before leaving the prison with the rest of the group on a Red Islamic Thingy bus.

A UNHCR official said the entire group had scabies, but otherwise appeared to be in reasonable physical condition.

The agency expects to resettle the Eritreans as refugees.

"We will send them to a safe house where they can be treated if they need medical treatment, and receive assistance from us, and be protected," said Samer Haddadin, head of the UNHCR's Libya mission.

#2  T-45 uses the OBOGs (On Board Oxygen Generating System), as does the Super Hornet and Growler; as opposed to the old style 10 litre green LOX bottles, so any contamination is likely from within the system itself. OBOGs separates oxygen molecules from the atmosphere for use, the system is completely on-board the a/c; no external servicing needed.

The waste product of this separation is high in nitrogen. the opposite of this OBOGs is OBIGGS ( On board Inert Gas Generating System) and his product is used to full the void in fuel cells with non flammable gas.

The fittings for both ports are supposed to be different size to prevent cross pollution, but perhaps there has been some maintenance issues or deliberate acts to introduce the N2 into the O2.

With OBOGS the oxygen molecules are screened from the air and sent to the crew; remainder is dumped overboard.no longer is the sortie limited by LOX (for Dr. Steve: please note 3, count 'em, 3 submissions and not once did I refer to my favorite airplane by the street slang)

FBI: Man Wanted to Fight for Islamic State, Torture American
More on this story from a few days ago.
[USNEWS] An 18-year-old South Carolina man told an undercover FBI agent he thought was an Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
recruiter that he wanted to fight for the terrorist organization and torture an American on a propaganda video, authorities said.

Zakaryia Abdin was incarcerated
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
last week at the airport in Charleston as he tried to board a plane to Jordan. A grand jury indicted him Tuesday on a charge of providing material support to a terrorist organization. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison.

It wasn't Abdin's first scrape with the law. Two years ago, authorities said he wanted to rob a gun store to get weapons to kill soldiers as Dire Revenge for American military action in the Middle East. He was arrested before the robbery, and a parole board last May agreed to his early release.

Abdin was aware federal authorities were watching him. He told the undercover agent if he couldn't get to the Middle East to fight, he would be willing to attack a site in the U.S. He praised the Florida man who killed 49 people last year in a terror attack at a nightclub, according to the FBI statement released after Abdin's indictment.

Abdin said he wanted his face shown if he got to torture an American hostage because "I want to be the one to send the message because they know who I am," according to the FBI statement.

Court records indicated Abdin is eligible for a public defender, but one has not been appointed.

The FBI said Abdin tried to hide his tracks. He contacted authorities to tell them about guns he bought for hunting and that his trip to the Middle East was a vacation to see the Dead Sea because he realized the FBI would be aware of his purchase and travel plans. He also called authorities and asked for a meeting where he told them he no longer held the extreme beliefs that led to his first arrest.

Abdin spoke with the undercover agent for a month as he saved about $1,800 for a flight to Jordan. Abdin asked if he could send back a photo of himself to his mother once he made it to the Middle East to ease her with his sudden disappearance, the FBI said.

Abdin also sent a video of him pledging his allegiance to the Islamic State in Arabic and told them he could do whatever was needed, according to the sworn statement.

"I am coming to fight. Not play video games and sit," the undercover agent said Abdin told him.

Abdin practiced shooting several different guns during the first three months of 2017 and told the undercover agent he was being careful to avoid the authorities he figured were watching him, the FBI said.

"We are most likely to contact an undercover agent than a real brother," Abdin told the undercover agent. "That is why I carry guns in my house, in my car and even I used to secretly take to school. It is very humiliating to be captured."

Clashes between Haftar's forces, Third Force erupt nearby Tamnihint airbase, Sabha
[Libya Observer] Early Wednesday morning, Dignity Operation fighter aircraft started bombing locations around Tamnihint airbase in the southern city of Sabha, according to Jamal al-Treki, the Third Force's commander.

Later on, the Third Force, which is appointed to secure the airbase and the entire southern region, engaged in heavy festivities with Pro-Haftar gangs led by Mohammed Ben Nayel - a staunch follower of Khalifa Haftar
... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
"We have been clashing with those gangs led by Ben Nayel since the morning and they are using medium and heavy weapons in the vicinity of Tamnihint airbase." Sources from Third Force told local media.

"Dignity Operation warplanes are taking off from Barak airbase, some 80 km away from Tamnihint airbase." al-Treki told al-Nabaa TV on Wednesday afternoon.

He also stressed that the Haftar-led air force had conducted at least two Arclight airstrikes on Tamnihint airbase, adding that there were no damages reported.

"I believe that the Presidential Council is a body that is in favor of Haftar and is actually trying to cover for his actions." al-Treki told the local media outlet.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Palestinian Authority pay cut angers Gaza workers
[IsraelTimes] PA says falling foreign aid has left it unable to provide full salaries; others see move as attempt to weaken Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, with social crisis.
It was fine supporting a thorn in Hamas' side when the money was flowing freely, but now the tribal cousins must have priority over those in Gaza who for a decade have done nothing to earn it. Contrast them to all the West Bank Hamasniks who've gotten themselves arrested or killed attacking Israelis or plotting against the PA.
A decision by the West Bank-based Paleostinian Authority to impose pay cuts on its civil servants in the Gazoo Strip sparked anger among the employees on Wednesday.

The PA said it was forced into the move because its budget has been hit by decreasing foreign aid.

Among hundreds waiting outside a bank in Gazoo City to withdraw their salaries was Jawdat Abu Ramadan, who works for a PA-run institute for the disabled and said he found his monthly paycheck of NIS 4,700 ($1,300) had been shaved by NIS 1,700 ($465).

After paying his bills he is left with "just 1,000 shekels" for himself and his three dependents until the end of the month, he told AFP.

Announcing the cutback on Tuesday evening, the Paleostinian Authority said it would be temporary.

The 70,000 PA employees in the Hamas-run Gazoo Strip are in a bizarre position. In 2007 the Islamic terror group seized power from the rival Fatah movement of Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
and ousted the Fatah-dominated PA. Its staff lost their posts, but the PA kept them on its payroll nevertheless.

Hamas set up its own parallel administration with 50,000 staff, whose salaries the PA refuses to pay.

Abbas is regularly accused in the Gazoo Strip of abandoning its two million Paleostinians.

The unemployment rate in the coastal territory is among the highest in the world, at 45 percent.

The wage cuts will have an impact beyond the civil servants themselves, as their purchasing power, Abu Ramadan said, is "the backbone of the Gazoo economy."

"It’s a premeditated massacre," said Aysha Abu Maghassib, who worked for the Paleostinian Authority’s police. A widowed mother of two, she said that after deductions only about NIS 200 is left from this month’s wages.

Ammar al-Njjar, 33, demanded that Abbas resign, while Nevin Abu Herbid said she saw "a crisis erupting."

Hamas called the cuts "arbitrary, inhumane and irresponsible."

Economist Omar Shaban said they could be a Fatah tactic to weaken Hamas, its bitter rival, by creating a social crisis in the Strip.

But it has led Fatah members from Gazoo to leave the party, with the east Gazoo membership quitting as a group and individuals from the central and west Gazoo districts also resigning.

#1  two things stand out

as the intraRantburg comment notes, these 'civil servants' do no actual work so they are still getting paid for not doing anything

also, although most people don't realize it, they get paid in Israeli money (NIS)because the Paleos haven't come up with their own currency

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
St. Petersburg Metro bomber: six recruiters arrested, parents flown in from Kyrgyzstan, apartment held IED parts

6 suspected ISIS recruiters arrested after St. Petersburg attack

[RussiaToday] Six suspected ISIS and Al-Nusra Front recruiters, said to come from Central Asian countries, were detained in St. Petersburg days after the blast in the city’s Metro. President Putin says any post-Soviet country could be the target of a terrorist attack.

Six nationals of Central Asian countries were detained following a series of anti-terrorism raid by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) the Interior Ministry and National Guard in St. Petersburg, the Investigative Committee said in a statement.

The suspects, who came to Russia to seek employment, “have been recruiting people of Central Asian descent since 2015 in St. Petersburg to become followers of Islamic State [IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL] and Al Nusra Front, and to carry out terrorist attacks,” the committee said.

Having searched the suspected recruiters’ flat, the security services also retrieved Islamist propaganda literature and documents, which may be a piece of intelligence worthy of further investigation.

While investigators will specifically try to uncover the men’s connections, it is not yet clear if they were in contact with the prime suspect believed to have set off a suicide bomb inside the St. Petersburg Metro earlier this week, the committee said.

On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledged the rising terrorist threat, affecting not only Russia, but also its allies in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) – an organization embracing 11 former Soviet countries.

“Unfortunately, there is no sign that the security environment is improving, and tragic events in St. Petersburg are the best evidence of it,” Putin said while meeting chiefs of CIS intelligence agencies, as cited by TASS.

“We do know that each of our countries, almost every country, is a potential target of a terrorist attack,” he said. “Our countries are facing many other challenges, including organized crime and drug trafficking.

To tackle these threats, the allied security agencies should step up intelligence sharing and mutual ties, Putin said.

“We have a very good [intelligence] community, and we enjoy very good cooperation on addressing major challenges.”

‘Intelligent, sportsman, didn’t pray’: St. Petersburg bomber ‘showed no signs of radicalization’

[Russia Today] Parents, friends, colleagues and neighbors say that St. Petersburg bomber Akbarzhon Dzhalilov showed no signs of radicalization or religious fanaticism, describing him as “average,” “intelligent,” “a sportsman” and someone who “didn’t pray."

Dzhalilov rented an apartment in the north-eastern district of St. Petersburg, some 20km away from the scene of the attack, a month before the blast, after he returned from a trip to his home city of Osh in southern Kyrgyzstan, Reuters reports.

The next day after the attack, security officials raided the apartment Dzhalilov had rented. An Investigative Committee spokeswoman told reporters that investigators found items in the apartment that were similar to the IED parts used in the unexploded device planted at the Ploshchad Vosstaniya station.

The spokeswoman added that both the IED and the items found in the suspect’s apartment were sent for analysis.

Dzhalilov’s neighbors told Reuters that he was a quiet tenant. "The apartment was always silent," one of his neighbors said, adding that she “never heard ... any music playing.”“Maybe he turned on the TV once," she said.

According to the media, Dzhalilov was born in Osh, the second largest city in Kyrgyzstan, in the south of the country. He has a brother who is a student at a school in Osh, and a sister who is married. His father lived in St. Petersburg for quite some time and reportedly has Russian citizenship.

Dzhalilov didn’t have a Kyrgyz passport, Kyrgyz officials said. He was reportedly a minor when he moved to St. Petersburg with his father.

The consul general of Russia in Osh, Roman Svistin, told Sputnik Kyrgyzstan that Dzhalilov received his citizenship back in 2011. The decision was based on a law stating that citizenship can be given to those who have a Russian citizen as a parent. Dzhalilov’s father is currently living in Osh.

Muslim suicide bomber was radicalised two months ago on a trip to his native Kyrgyzstan

[DailyMail] Suicide bomber Akbarzhon Dzhalilov was radicalised just two months ago on a trip to his native Kyrgyzstan when he said goodbye to his parents ahead of the St Petersburg train massacre.

Sources say he flew in February and returned a completely different man.

Family friends in the city of Osk said Dzhalilov, an ethnic Uzbek, had 'golden hands' - as one revealed 'he could do any work, and do it very well' - but Russian law enforcement agencies are now urgently seeking to understand when he switched his skills from repairing cars and decorating houses to making bombs.

The killer's parents flew overnight to Russia from their native Kyrgyzstan to help a probe that needs to clarify if he was working alone or is part of a terror group plotting other explosions.

A source told the news agency Interfax he 'travelled to Kyrgyzstan for about a month and returned from there a completely different man.

'He became unsociable and closed.

'Law enforcement agencies assume that Dzhalilov was recruited by extremists.'

'On his way back he did not go to Pulkovo (St Petersburg airport) as usual but to Moscow where he met somebody.

'It could have been the curator of the terrorist group or the real mastermind of the attack in the St Petersburg metro.'

Investigators are also examining a trip he supposedly made to South Korea three years ago.

'It is not excluded that in reality he was in Syria or Iraq,' said the newspaper.

Back in St Petersburg he was on the police radar - but only because he failed to pay traffic fines.

A family friend in Osh said: 'They are very good-minded and quiet family.

'The father used to go to the mosque on Friday, but none of them were ever religious fanatics.'

The bomber skilfully renovated the family home in Osh, making other neighbours jealous at the quality of his work.

His father worked in the car repair business in St Petersburg and six years ago took Dzhalilov to do the same job. Recently, the father returned permanently to Kyrgyzstan.
