U.S. Department of Justice Inspector General Report on former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe
This was urgent enough to post late Friday afternoon, breaking the Nothing After 2:00 p.m. rule. But it is also important enough to roll over so we can have a full day of discussion Saturday. Enjoy, dear Readers!

—trailing wife for the moderators
First few paragraphs of the report:

I. Introduction and Summary of Findings

This misconduct report addresses the accuracy of statements made by then-Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Deputy Director Andrew McCabe to the FBI’s Inspection Division (INSD) and the Department of Justice (Department or DOJ) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) concerning the disclosure of certain law enforcement sensitive information to reporter Devlin Barrett that was published online in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on October 30, 2016, in an article entitled "FBI in Internal Feud Over Hillary Clinton Probe." A print version of the article was published in the WSJ on Monday, October 31, 2016, in an article entitled "FBI, Justice Feud in Clinton Probe."

This investigation was initially opened by INSD to determine whether the information published by the WSJ in the October 30 article was an unauthorized leak and, if so, who was the source of the leak. On August 31, 2017, the OIG opened an investigation of McCabe following INSD’s referral of its matter to the OIG after INSD became concerned that McCabe may have lacked candor when questioned by INSD agents about his role in the disclosure to the WSJ. Shortly before that INSD referral, as part of its ongoing Review of Allegations Regarding Various Actions by the Department and the FBI in Advance of the 2016 Election, the OIG identified FBI text messages by McCabe’s then-Special Counsel ("Special Counsel") that reflected that she and the then-Assistant Director for Public Affairs ("AD/OPA") had been in contact with Barrett on October 27 and 28, 2016, and the OIG began to review the involvement of McCabe, Special Counsel, and AD/OPA in the disclosure of information to the WSJ in connection with the October 30 article.

In addition to addressing whether McCabe lacked candor, the OIG’s misconduct investigation addressed whether any FBI or Department of Justice policies were violated in disclosing non-public FBI information to the WSJ.

The OIG’s misconduct investigation included reviewing all of the INSD investigative materials as well as numerous additional documents, e-mails, text messages, and OIG interview transcripts. The OIG interviewed numerous witnesses, including McCabe, Special Counsel, former FBI Director James Comey, and others.

As detailed below, we found that in late October 2016, McCabe authorized Special Counsel and AD/OPA to discuss with Barrett issues related to the FBI’s Clinton Foundation investigation (CF Investigation). In particular, McCabe authorized Special Counsel and AD/OPA to disclose to Barrett the contents of a telephone call that had occurred on August 12, 2016, between McCabe and the then-Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General ("PADAG"). Among the purposes of the disclosure was to rebut a narrative that had been developing following a story in the WSJ on October 23, 2016, that questioned McCabe’s impartiality in overseeing FBI investigations involving former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and claimed that McCabe had ordered the termination of the CF Investigation due to Department of Justice pressure. The disclosure to the WSJ effectively confirmed the existence of the CF Investigation, which then-FBI Director Comey had 2 previously refused to do. The account of the August 12 McCabe-PADAG call, and other information regarding the handling of the CF Investigation, was included in the October 30 WSJ article.

We found that, in a conversation with then-Director Comey shortly after the WSJ article was published, McCabe lacked candor when he told Comey, or made statements that led Comey to believe, that McCabe had not authorized the disclosure and did not know who did. This conduct violated FBI Offense Code 2.5 (Lack of Candor ‐ No Oath).

We also found that on May 9, 2017, when questioned under oath by FBI agents from INSD, McCabe lacked candor when he told the agents that he had not authorized the disclosure to the WSJ and did not know who did. This conduct violated FBI Offense Code 2.6 (Lack of Candor ‐ Under Oath)

#5  In January 2013, a deep-sea research vessel of the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology obtained seven deep-sea mud core samples from the seafloor at 5,600 to 5,800 meters depth, approximately 250 kilometres (160 mi) south of the island.[9]

The research team found a mud layer 2 to 4 meters beneath the seabed that is extremely concentrated in rare earth oxides (REO). Analytical results showed that the maximum REO content in the mud was up to 0.66% REO. The deposit compares in grade with the ion-absorption-type deposits in southern China that provide the bulk of Chinese REO mine production, which grade in the range of 0.05% to 0.5% REO.[10] [11]

Charlize Theron Considers Leaving America as ‘Racism Alive and Well'
[Breitbart] South African actress Charlize Theron has revealed she is considering leaving the United States because of a perceived increase in racism under the Trump administration.

"I don’t even know how to talk about the last year under our new administration," Theron said in an interview for Elle conducted by the comedian Chelsea Handler. "But racism is much more alive and well than people thought. We can’t deny it anymore. We have to be vocal. "

Theron, who was born and raised in apartheid South Africa, went on to claim that she fears for the safety of her adopted children, both of whom are African-American.

"There are places in this country where, if I got a job, I wouldn’t take it. I wouldn’t travel with my kids to some parts of America, and that’s really problematic," she said.

"There are a lot of times when I look at my kids and I’m like, if this continues, I might have to [leave America]. Because the last thing I want is for my children to feel unsafe," she continued. "But they’re going to have to know that it’s a different climate for them than it is for me, and how unfair that is.

Theron, 42, whose major roles include The Italian Job, Hancock, and Mad Max: Fury Road, last month sounded off on the issue of gun rights, describing it as "outrageous" to even discuss allowing school teachers to bear arms.

#2  People who say things like, "I would never take a job in some parts of the country" or, "I would never visit certain parts of the country" are believing the propaganda pushed by the Leftists. A personally witnessed example last summer a couple visited the town where I live in east Tennessee. The young lady grew up here and left for Los Angeles. Her companion is of Asian descent and was told by all his friends that he would be in danger if he came here. He listened to his girlfriend and came with her, but still had reservations. We sat outside at the local tavern and he said he was really surprised how nice and friendly everyone was. He said he was looking forward to his next visit and would tell everyone how wrong they were.

US to audit grants awarded to California bullet train
The Browndoggle gets the attention it deserves: a costly untenable plan built on lies to voters
[SanDiegoUnionTribune] California's high-speed rail project is facing an audit from the U.S. Department of Transportation's as costs continue to climb.

The inspector general's audit, announced Thursday, will examine the Federal Railroad Administration's oversight of nearly $3.5 billion in federal grant money awarded to the project.

It comes as the plan to bring travelers between Los Angeles and San Francisco in less than three hours faces growing scrutiny.

A business plan released in March shows the state does not have the roughly $30 billion needed to complete the first phase of the project between the Central Valley and San Francisco. The entire project, meanwhile, is expected to cost $77 billion. State auditors are also conducting a review.

The authority's new chief executive has pledged more transparency about the project's troubles.

Scripps College Pool Party Desegregated
[Claremont Independent] After the Independent reported that event organizers segregated tonight’s pool party at Scripps College, barring white students from attending, the organizers changed their event’s description to allow all students regardless of race at the Claremont Colleges‐a consortium consisting of Scripps College, Pomona College, Harvey Mudd College, Claremont McKenna College, and Pitzer College‐to attend the pool party hosted at the college’s Sallie Tiernan Field House.

In a previous version of the Facebook event description, the organizers made it clear that the pool party was open only to students who identified as persons of color (POC):

"This event is only to 5C [Claremont Colleges] students identifying as POC.

#1  Scripps College President Lara Tiedens sent out the following email to students this afternoon:
“The pool party has been postponed due to concerns about student safety in the wake of numerous phone calls and emails from the public expressing hostility and threatening physical violence.”

Postponed due to 'safety' issues and not because racial segregation is an un-American idea that should have been stomped out in the '70s.

Does this mean race is no longer simply a social construct and is back to being a thing again? It's hard keep up. Maybe I need a safe space to get away from all these whiny-ass self-identified POCs.

Also, is 'POC' pronounced like pock, poke or pook?

Penn Professor Critical of Affirmative Action Receives ‘Academic Courage' Award
[National Review] University of Pennsylvania Law School professor Amy Wax received an award Tuesday night for continuing to voice opinions deemed unacceptable by liberal academia despite personal attacks on her integrity.

The Nation Association of Scholars presented Wax with the Peter Shaw Award for Academic Courage in recognition of her refusal to bow to the overwhelming public pressure she faced for criticizing affirmative action and suggesting all cultures are not equal.

"It is unfortunate that it now requires great courage to share personal observations or speak about the real effects of policy," said NAS president Peter Wood. "Even more disastrous for society are the values universities are affirming in young people by supporting their infantile and narcissistic desires to never be offended or listen to opposing viewpoints."

Wax was pilloried by pundits, academics, and university administrators in August of last year after writing an op-ed bemoaning the decline of "bourgeois culture" and the deteriorating socioeconomic effect it has wrought on American society. She was subsequently banned from teaching any mandatory first-year courses at Penn Law after publicly stating ‐ as part of a broader criticism of affirmative-action policies ‐ that black students "rarely" finish in the top half of their class.

Penn Law Dean Ted Ruger chastised Wax for her comments, which were made in furtherance of her argument that affirmative action harms black job applicants because prospective employers assume they are less qualified.

"In light of Professor Wax’s statements, black students assigned to her class in their first week at Penn Law may reasonably wonder whether their professor has already come to a conclusion about their presence, performance, and potential for success in law school and thereafter," Ruger declared in a statement announcing Wax would no longer be allowed to teach mandatory first-year courses.

Ace Hardware continues ads with Laura Ingraham
[Daily Caller] Ace Hardware decided to continue advertising on Laura Ingraham’s Fox News program after initially caving to a boycott targeting the conservative host.

An Ace spokeswoman backtracked Thursday on an April 5 statement the company made, announcing the initial decision to cut advertising from the "Ingraham Angle."

"The information we had at the time of the initial request was incomplete, and we apologize for that," the spokeswoman told The Wrap in an email. The company has not "altered our current media schedule," she said, adding Ace "regularly reviews our media strategy."

Ace was singing a different tune in a statement announcing its initial decision to pull ads. "I can confirm that we do not have any plans to nationally advertise on Ingraham’s show in the future," the same spokeswoman told TheWrap on April 5.

Ace’s decision to reverse course is the first time a company has publicly resumed advertising on Ingraham’s program after cutting loose its support after her comments on Parkland high school shooting survivor David Hogg.

3 US banks post higher profits with huge assist from tax law
NEW YORK (AP) ‐ Three of America’s biggest banks reported higher profits Friday, with a huge assist from the tax law passed late last year.

JPMorgan reported a record quarterly profit, while Citigroup and Wells Fargo topped analyst expectations.

Banks are expected to be major beneficiaries of the tax overhaul, which sharply lowered corporate tax rates. Comparing each of the effective tax rates from last year to this year, the three Wall Street banks that reported earnings Friday appeared to have saved roughly $1.6 billion altogether.

The first-quarter earnings season will give investors and the public their first good look into how President Trump’s tax law is impacting Corporate America. Publicly traded banks are the first major industry to report their results each quarter.

Net income at JPMorgan Chase, the nation’s largest bank by assets and deposits, rose 35 percent to $8.71 billion. The result was primarily driven by two factors: higher interest rates, which have allowed banks such as JPMorgan to charge more for customers to borrow, and the lower corporate tax rate.

However, JPMorgan had to set aside more money to cover bad loans in its consumer bank, where delinquencies have been steadily edging higher. JPMorgan shares fell 2.7 percent, while shares of Wells Fargo slipped 3.4 percent and Citigroup shares dropped 1.6 percent.

While JPMorgan’s pretax income rose by $2 billion in the quarter, the company said it effectively paid $240 million less in taxes compared to a year earlier. The bank paid an effective tax rate of 18.3 percent in the quarter, compared with a rate of 22.7 percent a year earlier. Before the changes to tax law, JPMorgan’s effective tax rate averaged in the high 20-percent range.

[Free Beacon] United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley blasted Russia's "lies and cover-ups" of the Bashar al-Assad regime's use of chemical weapons in Syria in a speech at the United Nations Security Council Friday.

"We should not be condemning the countries or groups of countries that might actually have the courage to stand up in defense of our common principle, the principle against the use of chemical weapons," she said. "Instead, we should be condemning the country that unilaterally has stopped the security council from upholding this principle."

"It is Russia alone that has stopped at nothing to defend the Syrian regime's multiple uses of chemical weapons."

Haley's condemnation comes after reports that Assad's government used chemical weapons against civilians in Douma, a rebel-held Damascus suburb, killing dozens.

Tech Industry Insiders See Hypocrisy in Dem Questioning on Facebook
[Free Beacon] Experts in Silicon Valley's tech industry said it was difficult watching Democrats vilify Facebook tracking tools knowing full well most of them are using the very tools they criticized to aid their reelection efforts.

Democrats took sharp aim at Facebook during testimony this week by CEO Mark Zuckerberg for tracking user activity.

Sen. Bill Nelson (D., Fla.) warned during the first day of hearings that "none of us are going to have any privacy anymore" because of Facebook and complained that discussing his love of chocolate on the site led to chocolate ads. Sen. Dick Durbin (D., Ill.) said users should be notified of "what information Facebook is collecting, who they are sending it to, and whether they asked me in advance my permission to do that."

It was quickly pointed out by Mike Millican, a longtime digital strategist for Republican campaigns, that both the Democratic senators and most of their colleagues are actively employing the Facebook tracking devices they were criticizing.

Hidden on the campaign websites of both Nelson and Durbin is something called a Facebook pixel, a device in a website's code that allows campaigns advertising on Facebook to track how many people are navigating to the website from Facebook and what they are doing once they get there. The campaigns are then able to create audiences and retarget them based on what worked before.

[PJMedia] As James Comey steps with both his left feet right into his Oscar Wilde moment, another player in the preening emotional drama that is the Mueller investigation has also taken the stage. Starring in the role of Drama Queen today is none other than Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the man to whom all roads lead in the current mess. Forget the weepy, creepy Jim Comey -- if this were a Hercule Poirot story, the Belgian dandy would even now be waxing the tips of his moustaches and getting ready to enter the drawing room at Main Justice, his j'accuse at the ready.

Consider this news -- or should I say, strategic pre-emptive leak:

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has struck a stoic and righteous tone in private conversations he has had this week about the fate of his job as President Donald Trump has launched public criticism against him and considered firing him, according to three sources who have spoken to Rosenstein.

...Recall that it was Rosenstein who wrote the memo that president Trump cited when he fired Comey back in May. It was Rosenstein who stepped up to run the "Russian collusion" investigation after new attorney general Jeff Sessions foolishly succumbed to the Democrat-Media Complex's hysteria over Hillary Clinton's shocking loss and recused himself. It was Rosenstein who authorized the appointment of the special counsel and gave him an open-ended mandate, after Comey deliberately leaked his own memos, via a cut-out, to the New York Times in order to provoke just such an action. And it was Rosenstein who signed off on the misleading FISA warrants that currently have the FBI and the Justice Department in hot water with Congress.

In other words, Rosenstein is the man at the center of this whole mess. And now, anonymously, he's singing like a canary to his pals in the media in order to hold onto his job by publicly fretting that he's about to lose it.

...Comey's tears and "out of body" experiences, Rosenstein's midnight pleas for help -- who are these people? They more closely resemble a gaggle of emotional high-school girls from Mean Girls than grown men overseeing two of the federal government's most important institutions.
They sure can dish it out, but taking it is for the plebs?
Whether Rosenstein stage-managed the whole Trump investigation from the start, or is simply a hapless hostage to fortune, it doesn't really matter -- he owns this kluge and ought to pay a price for it. At a time when the world is in greater turmoil than usual and the attention of the president is demanded by far more important issues than Hillary Clinton's continued hurt feelings, do we really have the luxury to care about non-existent "collusion," an aging porn prima donna's lust for the spotlight, and the demolition of the attorney-client privilege in search of a crime that -- even should one be found -- antedates Trump's political career?

The Constitution has a couple of mechanisms for removing a president, neither of which involves the legal system. The first is impeachment, which the Democrats will no doubt attempt should they retake the House of Representatives this fall (although there is next to no chance the Senate, which will stay in GOP hands, would convict and remove him). The second is the election of 2020.

No amount of tears is going to change that.
But seeing people like this get the stick is pleasant for a pleb like me

[Telegraph] A radical feminist has been warned by a judge to refer to the transgender defendant as a "she" during an assault case.

Maria Maclachlan, 61, was giving evidence against Tara Wolf, 26, whom she claims tried to attack her at a rally, knocking her to the floor.

...District Judge Kenneth Grant warned Ms MacLachlan to refer to Miss Wolf as "she" while giving evidence.

He said: "The defendant wished to be referred to as a woman, so perhaps you could refer to her as 'she' for the purpose of the proceedings."

Ms MacLachlan replied: "I'm used to thinking of this person who is a male as male."

The row was the latest in an ongoing battle between Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminists (TERFs), who believe that transwomen should not be given the same rights as those born female, and transgender activists.

CNN Person of Entitlement throws cursing hissy fit at LaGuardia Airport
[Hot Air] Symone Sanders is a CNN contributor and former spokesman for the Bernie Sanders campaign. Yesterday, New York’s PIX 11 News reported that Sanders was detained at LaGuardia airport after she was asked to step out of line for a security check.

She was reportedly given a summons for disorderly conduct. What makes this story somewhat more interesting is that Sanders has a history of problems in airports. Last May she published a series of tweets describing having the police called after American Airlines officials said they felt threatened by her. Essence magazine wrote a story about the incident at the time titled "Flying While Black: American Airlines Called The Cops On Symone Sanders For Trying To Check In Luggage."

Syria Heading the United Nation's Conference on Disarmament
[Tablet] The photos and videos showing dozens of Syrian people and their children suffocating, slumped to the ground, lifeless, after what is likely to be a chemical attack in Douma, east of Damascus, shook the world this past Saturday.

In the meantime, Syria, the same power being accused of carrying the deadly attack, will assume the presidency of the U.N.’s Conference on Disarmament, the forum which produced the treaty banning chemical weapons, opening in Geneva on March 28.

The Geneva-based organization UN Watch was the first to draw the attention of world leaders to the appointment, which is the result of an automatic rotation between member states. Hillel Neuer, the director of the organization, is calling for ambassadors to walk out of the room while their Syrian counterpart Hussam Edin Aala chairs the forum.

"At a time when Syria is gassing its own men, women, and children to death," Neuer said in a statement, "to see Syria heading the body that is supposed to protect these victims will simply shock the conscience of humanity."

Aid groups blamed the Syrian government of Bashar al-Assad for the attack, which reportedly killed at least 40 people. This is far from being the first time chemical weapons have been used in the Syrian Civil War. In 2013 the Syrian army allegedly used nerve gases to attack the population, killing 734 people.

Neuer compared the appointment to "putting a serial rapist in charge of a women’s shelter." The outrage is similar to the one sparked in 2013, after Syria was elected to take part in a UNESCO committee on human rights.

The Syrian envoy is scheduled to preside over the conference through June 24.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Turns out Comey gave Hillary a pass on emails because he thought she would win
[American Thinker] James Comey's memoir, pompously titled A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership, set for release on April 17, is out from the reviewer class, and all but one seems to have missed the bombshell in it: that Comey neglected to prosecute Hillary Clinton for her refusal to properly handle the nation's top secrets through her illegal private bathtub server, and exposed those secrets to our nation's enemies, because he thought she would win the 2016 election. Some Boy Scout, as he and his allies portray him.

Quite a few of the reviewers focus on Comey's descriptive powers, something that could make anyone look negative if the view is biased enough, which Comey's is. He natters on about Trump's hand size, the bags under his eyes, his tie being too long, and other stylistics that mark Comey as a vain little man obsessed with looks, little different from David Brooks and his fascination with the crease of President Obama's pant legs. Sounds about par for a preening fop, which I guess Comey is. I didn't know there were guys who did this.

There also is focus on he-said, she-said exchanges, which, given Comey's penchant for lying, raises questions as to the accuracy of the supposed recollections. Supposedly, Gen. John Kelly was all broken up about Comey's firing. Well, maybe ‐ he's a swamp thing, after all, and he's said to be a nice person, very empathetic, but who knows?

Then there are the pointless anecdotes, which the Daily Wire rightly classifies as "nothingburgers." Are we supposed to be surprised that President Trump didn't like the "pee tape" about himself, in a dossier put together by his enemies and their Kremlin "sources"? Or to think it unnatural that President Trump wouldn't want his wife to believe it? It all seems natural and predictable. Comey just wants to bring private business to the fore to embarrass Trump. Comey is again being Comey.

Ex-CIA director tears into Trump: 'Your kakistocracy is collapsing'
[The Hill] Former CIA Director John Brennan on Friday went after President Trump over his attacks on former FBI Director James Comey, tweeting that Trump’s "kakistocracy is collapsing after its lamentable journey."

"As the greatest Nation history has known, we have the opportunity to emerge from this nightmare stronger & more committed to ensuring a better life for all Americans, including those you have so tragically deceived," Brennan tweeted at Trump.

A kakistocracy is a form of government in which the worst persons are in power.

Brennan has been a regular critic of Trump, warning last month that lawmakers who protect him will face "a reckoning."

If anything, his criticisms have become more pronounced in the last few months.

Trump lashed out at Comey in a pair of tweets early Friday, calling him a "leaker & liar" and an "untruthful slime ball."

Top Republicans demand Rosenstein turn over copies of James Comey's memos about Trump
[Bus Insider] Top Republican leaders demanded the Justice Department "immediately" release former FBI director James Comey's memos containing his account of conversations he had with President Donald Trump.

In a letter addressed to deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein, Republican chairmen of the House Judiciary Committee, Oversight and Government Reform, and Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, requested both unclassified and classified versions of Comey's memos on Friday.

"There is no legal basis for withholding these materials from Congress," the letter signed by Reps. Bob Goodlatte of Virginia, Trey Gowdy of South Carolina, and Devin Nunes of California said.

The memos, written by Comey during his tenure as FBI director, contained his account of interactions with Trump. The memos became a subject of controversy after becoming evidence for a potential obstruction of justice case against Trump, after he allegedly suggested the FBI drop the investigation into his national security adviser, Mike Flynn.

Russian choppers pave the way for new Syrian Army advance in northeast Homs
[ALMASDARNEWS] Despite the poor whether on Friday, the Russian Aerospace Forces continued to offer air support to their allies from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the northeastern countryside of the Homs Governorate.

According to a military source in the quiet provincial capital of Homs, Russian attack choppers inflicted heavy damage on the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) defenses near al-Sukhnah, while also killing scores of holy warriors in the process.

As a result of these Russian strikes, the Syrian Arab Army, alongside Hezbollah and Liwaa al-Fatemiyoun (Afghan-Iranian paramilitary), seized several points from the Islamic State forces near the strategic Deir Ezzor Highway.

In addition to aiding the Syrian Army near al-Sukhnah, the Russian Aerospace Forces launched several strikes on the Islamic State’s positions in the southeastern countryside of Homs.

The Russian attack in southeast Homs helped the Syrian Army and their allies from the National Defense Forces (NDF) to forestall the Islamic State advance near the strategic 16th Air Defense Regiment.

Russian AWAC plane in Syria that could harass US ships during a potential strike
[Bus Insider] The US appears on the verge of striking Syria after the government allegedly carried out a gas attack over the weekend.

But Russia has vowed to shoot down any US missiles with its air defenses, including the S-400, its most advanced missile defense system.

Russia's A-50U airborne early warning and control plane could help Russian missile defenses with targeting acquisition, as well as disrupt the US' missile targeting, according to Russia Today, a state-owned media outlet.

The "Russian military may use a limited response - using airborne electronic warfare equipment to harass the American ships, messing up their target acquisition, geolocation or even AEGIS anti-aircraft systems," RT reported.

The A-50U is a "giant flying data processing center" used to detect and track "a number of aerial (fighter jets, bombers, ballistic and cruise missiles), ground (tank columns) and surface (above-water vessels) targets," Sputnik, another Russian state-owned media outlet, previously reported.

It also informs "command centers about the developments in the air and sea, and directing fighter and strike aviation."

Here's what it can do:

Turkey orders detention of 140 people over Gulen links
[Al Jazeera] Ottoman Turkish prosecutors have ordered the detention of 140 people, including serving army officers, over alleged links to the US-based religious leader Fethullah Gülen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
, according to an Anadolu news agency report.

Police launched simultaneous operations in 34 provinces across the country for 70 serving army members in a probe led by state prosecutors in the central province of Konya, Anadolu said.

It said the suspects were targeted based on statements by soldiers previously detained over ties to Gulen.

The Ottoman Turkish government says Gulen orchestrated the failed coup on July 15, 2016, in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
which killed 250 people - mostly civilians - and left nearly 2,200 injured.

Gulen has rejected the accusations.

Turkey also accuses Gulen's group of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Ottoman Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police and judiciary.

Russia’s heavy bombers return to Iran, presumably for Syria-related operations
[ALMASDARNEWS] According to media sources close to the Iranian government, Russian heavy bombers are once again permitted to operate from Iranian military airfields.

Sources say that the development comes after an agreement was reached between between Russian and Iranian high-level military-diplomatic officials. It gives Russian bombers the right to transit Iranian airspace and use at least two Iranian military airports for refueling.

Although unsaid, the development is most likely a response to recent US threats against the Syrian military ‐ a close ally of both nations ‐ following an alleged chemical attack in rural Damascus.

The information of development also comes after two Tu-95 and two Tu-22M heavy bombers were noted to have left their permanent base in Russia for an unknown destination.

During mid-2016, Russian Tu-22M bombers temporary used the Iranian Hamadan Airbase amid a major bombing operation against Islamic State

Mosque in northern West Bank torched in apparent anti-Arab hate crime
[IsraelTimes] Aqraba residents believe they were targeted with 'Dire Revenge' and 'death' graffiti because the killer of Israeli Adiel Kolman last month was from village.

Vandals torched a mosque in the northern West Bank village of Aqraba before dawn on Friday in an apparent hate crime attack.

Footage captured by a security camera at the entrance to the mosque showed a pair of assailants setting the door of the building ablaze. Their faces were covered throughout the clip.

Messages of "death," "Dire Revenge" and "price tag" were found graffitied on the walls of the Sa’ada Mosque in the small Paleostinian town of several hundred residents.

"Price tag" refers to vandalism and other hate crimes carried out by Jewish ultra-nationalists ostensibly in retaliation for Paleostinian violence or government policies perceived as hostile to the settler movement. Mosques, churches, dovish Israeli groups and even Israeli military bases have been targeted by nationalist vandals in recent years.

Locals noticed the fire almost immediately at around 2 a.m. and managed to extinguish it. Two sections of the mosque were torched completely, according to Rabbis for Human Rights field worker Zacharia Sadeh, who was present at the Sa’ada Mosque after the attack.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Sadeh reported the suspected attack to the Israel Police, whose officers arrived at the scene along with IDF troops and began gathering evidence.

Police said an investigation has been launched.

Locals told Paleostinian media that the same mosque had been the target of a similar arson attack five years ago, but that members had managed to repair the damage.

They said that the attack appeared to have been in retaliation for the murder of Adiel Kolman, a 32-year-old Israeli father of four, who was stabbed to death in Jerusalem’s Old City last month. The terrorist, Abd al-Rahman Bani Fadel, 28, was rubbed out at the scene. He had been a resident of Aqraba.

The anti-racism group Tag Meir released a statement Friday condemning the arson attack "with disgust."

"Since December 2009, 50 mosques, churches and monasteries have been torched or desecrated in the State of Israel, Judea and Samaria," the NGO said, referring to the West Bank by its biblical names.

Tag Meir did not shy away from pegging blame for the incident.

"The murderous Moslem right-wing activists are asking for terror by igniting populated homes, houses of worship and cars, uprooting olive trees and vandalizing in order to frighten the Paleostinian population and make their lives in the Land of Israel unbearable," the statement concluded.

The Yesh Din rights group released a statement of its own, saying that it had documented 14 incidents of attacks on mosques in the West Bank since 2006. Nine of them were arson incidents (not including the one Friday), while five other sanctuaries were spray-painted with graffiti.

Israeli Drone in Akkar, Leb Overflight Similar to One that Preceded T-4 Strike
Oh? Perhaps something interesting that way goes.
[AnNahar] An Israeli reconnaissance drone was on Friday conducting intensive overflights over the mountainous regions of the northern Akkar province, the National News Agency said.

"The drone hovered at a high altitude over the same region that witnessed three days of overflights last week, after which the Israeli enemy's warplanes targeted Syria's T-4 airbase from Leb's airspace," NNA added.

Fourteen fighters including seven Iranian revolutionary guards were killed in Monday's early-morning strike on the T-4 airbase in Syria.

GOP financier quits over $1.6m payout via Trump lawyer
[PRESSTV] A top GOP fundraiser and prominent supporter of President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
, Elliott Broidy, has resigned after a report that the president's personal attorney arranged a $1.6 million payment to a former Playboy model who claimed Broidy had impregnated her.

Michael Cohen, Trump’s lawyer, arranged the payments to the woman on behalf of Broidy in late 2017, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday, citing the people familiar with the matter.

Following the report, Broidy stepped down from his post as deputy national finance chairman of Republican National Committee (RNC), the organization in charge of fundraising and developing the Republican Party platform.

The Los Angeles-based investor, who helped raise millions of dollars for Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, issued a statement, admitting that he "had a consensual relationship" with the woman.

"It is unfortunate that this personal matter between two consenting adults is the subject of national discussion just because of Michael Cohen’s involvement," Broidy said.

"At the end of our relationship, this woman shared with me that she was pregnant. She alone decided that she did not want to continue with the pregnancy and I offered to help her financially during this difficult period."

Broidy would be at least the second senior committee figure this year to resign after former RNC finance chairman Steve Wynn stepped down in January amid employees' accusations of sexual misconduct.

Cohen himself has been under the spotlight over a $130,000 payment he made to a porn-star aimed at preventing her from publicly discussing an affair she claims to have had with Trump.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
IDF: Iranian drone we downed in February was on armed sabotage mission
[JPost] According to the statement by the army, the conclusion was made following an analysis of the airfield, and operational and intelligence research carried out on the remaining parts of the drone.

The Iranian drone which infiltrated into Israeli skies in early February was armed with explosives and was sent to carry out a sabotage attack in the Jewish State, the IDF Spokesperson's Office said Friday.

"The interception of the Iranian unmanned aircraft by an attack helicopter prevented an Iranian intent to carry out an attack in the territory of the State of Israel," read a statement by the army.

The advanced Iranian UAV was identified and monitored by Israeli defense systems until it was intercepted and "did not pose a danger" while it was inside Israeli territory, the army statement added.

The advanced Iranian drone believed to be a copy of a US stealth drone that was downed in Iran in 2011, took off from the T-4 airbase deep in the Syrian province of Homs and crossed into Israeli territory via Jordanian airspace.

The drone was spotted by Israel and was intercepted near the Israeli town of Beit She’an by an Apache attack helicopter.

IAF chief of air staff Brigadier General Tomer Bar, the second in command of Israel's Air Force, said the drone was an advanced model with a low signature that Israel had never intercepted before.

"We waited for it to cross into our territory," he said, stressing that it was important for Israel "to get our hands on the drone."

According to the statement by the army, the conclusion was made following an analysis of the airfield as well as operational and intelligence research carried out on the remaining parts of the Iranian UAV.

Following the infiltration Israeli jets took off to strike the launch site of the drone as well as the drone control vehicle which guided the drone into Israeli territory and were met by massive Syrian anti-aircraft fire. Over 20 missiles were launched towards the Israelis jets from SA-5 and SA-17 batteries.

Pilots of one of the Israeli F16is ejected from their jet which crashed in the lower Galilee after being hit by shrapnel by the Syrian anti-aircraft fire. The pilots landed inside Israel and were evacuated to Rambam hospital in Haifa. Both have since been released from the hospital and the navigator has returned to flight duty.

It was the first time in 30 years that an Israeli jet was lost in a combat situation and led to an extensive retaliation by Israel with additional strikes against both the Syrian missile batteries and Iranian military targets in the war-torn country.

Tensions on Israel’s northern border have been rising in recent months as Israel fears that Iran is entrenching itself deeper into war-torn Syria with its presence on Israel’s borders growing in strength. The smuggling of sophisticated weaponry and the building a precision missile factory in Leb for Hezbollah has also been a growing concern for Jerusalem.

Last week Israeli reportedly carried out an Arclight airstrike against Syria’s T4 airbase, the same base where the drone took off from in February, killing seven Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps soldiers.

According to the Russian military the strike was carried out by two Israeli F-15 jets with guided missiles fired from Leb’s airspace. Five out the eight missiles used were said to have been destroyed by Syrian air defenses.
Al Masdar News adds:
The fire from Syrian air defense in February prompted a tough response from the Israeli side: it attacked 12 positions in Syria, including eight Syrian airplanes and three anti-aircraft batteries. Commenting on the offense, a military source told Sputnik that the Israeli military believed it had destroyed up to a half of the Syrian Air Defense Forces during the Arclight airstrike.

Reacting to the exchange of fire several days after, Syria’s Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad vowed that Damascus would down any jet that started an assault on Syria.

Iraq
Islamic State claims responsibility killing, injuring tens of people in Thursday’s blasts, north of Salahuddin
Follow up to these reports from yesterday. Between the four articles from different sources the reported range of injured and dead is fascinating.
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
myrmidon group has grabbed credit for the blasts that took place, north of Tikrit, which left many people killed and injured.

The media-arm of IS, Amaq news agency, said 17 personnel of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) were killed, while 30 others were maimed in an ambush at Asdeira village in Shirqat town.

On Thursday, Ali Dawdah, mayor of Shirqat, said in a statement, "ten people were killed, while 14 others were maimed as explosives went off while digging tombs, on Wednesday night. The bombs were planted in a grave in Asdeira village in western Shirqat, north of Salahuddin."
Another take on the same story:
25 Dead in Attack at Iraq Funeral of Anti-IS Fighters

[AnNahar] At least 25 people were killed and 18 injured in Thursday's kaboom on funerals for Iraqi fighters killed by jihadists, according to a new toll from police and medics.

"Two bombs went kaboom! as the funeral procession was entering the cemetery" in Asdira, village mayor Salaheddin Shaalan told AFP.

The Sunni village is south of Sharqat, one of the last bastions of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group in the country's north to be retaken by Iraqi forces.

"In total, 25 people were killed and 18 injured, four of whom are still at death's door," a police officer told AFP on Friday, on condition of anonymity, revising an earlier corpse count.

Medical sources confirmed the new figures.

It was the deadliest attack in Iraq since a January 16 double suicide kaboom in Baghdad claimed 31 lives.

Thursday's attack took place during a funeral for five members of the Hashed al-Shaabi paramilitary units killed Wednesday night in the same village, 250 kilometres (150 miles) north of Baghdad.

The mostly Shiite paramilitary units, which also include Sunni tribal forces, played a key role alongside the army in expelling jihadists from Iraqi towns last year.

The Iraqi government declared victory over IS in December after pushing IS jihadists out of their final holdouts along the border with Syria. But the group retains the capacity to strike despite losing control of vast swathes of Iraqi territory it seized in 2014. It still clings to pockets of desert in war-torn Syria and appears to be able to cross the mostly non-existent border between the two neighbours.

Jihadists sometimes manage to snatch control of roads at night, especially in the Salaheddin province where Thursday's attack took place, and Anbar province along the border with Syria, security experts say.

Iraq is gearing up for legislative elections set for May 12. Since the 2003 US-led invasion and the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime, polls in Iraq have consistently been marred by violence. But in the runup to next month's elections, the country has enjoyed a respite from violence.
It has?

UK says Russia’s false flag chemical weapons claim is ‘a blatant lie’
[ALMASDARNEWS] Great Britannia’s Ambassador to the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
(U.N.) Karen Pierce stated on Friday that Russia’s accusation that Britannia was behind a false flag chemical weapons attack in Douma was "a blatant lie."

Pierce slammed the Russian report at the U.N., calling their claim "grotesque, bizarre and a blatant lie".

The British diplomat would then go on and say, "I want to state categorically ... that Britannia has no involvement and would never have any involvement in the use of a chemical weapon."

Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that a thorough investigation was conducted by Russia in Douma and the results proved that Great Britannia wanted to blame a chemical weapons attack on Syria in order to provoke the U.S. to strike the government.

US advancing colonial plots under war on terror cover: Houthi
[PRESSTV] Leader of Yemen's Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
Ansarullah movement Abdul-Malik Badreddin al-Houthi says the so-called war on terrorism is the "most feeble and ridiculous" excuse that US officials have been using over the past few years to advance their colonial plots.

Addressing his supporters via a televised speech from the Yemeni capital city of Sana’a on Friday, Houthi blamed Washington for the emergence of al-Qaeda and ISIS terror networks and spread of terrorism.

"The American government created al-Qaeda in order to target the Moslem world. ISIS terrorist group’s tentacles spread once the US prepared the ground for such a growth. The Death Eaters wouldn’t have able to exert influence if American authorities had not thrown weight behind them," the Ansarullah chief pointed out.

He also criticized some Arab states over irrational decisions, stating that such foolish moves have been a great boon for the United States and the Israeli regime.

"Enemies are seeking to sow the seeds of division and discord among Moslem nations in a bid to prevent them from taking a unified stand. The United States is cherishing hopes that the Moslem world would implode within itself and disintegrate," Houthi commented.

The leader of the Ansarullah movement went to say that his fellow fighters, in full coordination with Yemeni army forces, are adding more advanced and optimized ballistic missiles to the country’s inventory.

He stressed that Yemeni troops and allied fighters from Popular Committees continue to produce a vast array of unmanned aerial vehicles for military and reconnaissance purposes.

Day 2:Joint US, France, UK attack launched on Syria on rural Damascus
Further developments after the announcement immediately followed by the commencement of activities late yesterday.
[ALMASDARNEWS] Minutes ago, the U.S., La Belle France, and the U.K. launched a barrage of cruise missiles towards rural Damascus, causing massive kabooms near the Dumayr Airbase in the eastern Qalamoun.

While the site is still unknown, al-Masdar’s field correspondent in Damascus reported that the strike is hitting the rural Damascus countryside near or possibly the Dumayr Airbase.

The Dumayr Airbase is the military installation the Syrian Air Force used to launch Arclight airstrikes on the East Ghouta during Operation Damascus Steel.

The Syrian Air Defense has responded in a bid to down the cruise missiles; however, many cruise missiles have already struck the area.

Al-Masdar previously reported that the Dumayr Airbase was the likely target because the airstrikes on the East Ghouta were launched from this site.

Syria crisis: Trump says strikes have been ordered against Assad regime – live

[Guardian] 9.14pm 13 April 2018: Explosions heard in Damascus. Reuters says witnesses in Damascus have heard several large explosions and seen smoke on the east side of the city. Douma lies to the north-east. It is unclear if these are related to the US president’s announcement.

No people were targeted.

#3  Thank you for your work, TW. Statement from General Mattis to the world:

Good evening. As the world knows, the Syrian people have suffered terribly under the prolonged brutality of the Assad regime.

On April 7th, the regime decided to again defy the norms of civilized people, showing callous disregard for international law by using chemical weapons to murder women, children and other innocents.

We and our allies find these atrocities inexcusable. As our commander in chief, the president has the authority under Article II of the Constitution to use military force overseas to defend important U.S. national interests.

The United States has an important national interest in averting a worsening humanitarian catastrophe in Syria, and specifically deterring the use and proliferation of chemical weapons.

Last year, in response to a chemical weapons attack against civilians and to signal the regime to cease chemical weapons use, we targeted the military base from which the weapons were delivered.

Earlier today, President Trump directed the U.S. military to conduct operations, in consonance with our allies, to destroy the Syrian regime's chemical weapons research, development and production capabilities.

Tonight, France, the United Kingdom and the United States took decisive action to strike the Syrian chemical weapons infrastructure.

Clearly, the Assad regime did not get the message last year. This time, our allies and we have struck harder.

Together, we have sent a clear message to Assad, and his murderous lieutenants, that they should not perpetrate another chemical weapons attack for which they will be held accountable.

The 70 nations in the defeat ISIS coalition remain committed to defeating ISIS in Syria.

The strike tonight separately demonstrates international resolve to prevent chemical weapons from being used on anyone, under any circumstance, in contravention of international law.

I want to emphasize that these strikes are directed at the Syrian regime. In conducting these strikes, we have gone to great lengths to avoid civilian and foreign casualties. But it is time for all civilized nations to urgently unite in ending the Syrian civil war by supporting the United Nations backed Geneva peace process.

In accordance with the chemical weapons convention prohibiting the use of such weapons, we urge responsible nations to condemn the Assad regime and join us in our firm resolve to prevent chemical weapons from being used again.

General Dunford will provide a military update.

Based on recent experience, we fully expect a significant disinformation campaign over the coming days by those who have aligned themselves with the Assad regime.

In an effort to maintain transparency and accuracy, my assistant for public affairs, Dana White, and Lt. Gen. McKenzie, director of the Joint Staff, will provide a brief of known details tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.

#9  Don't get me wrong, I'm all for wiping out chemical weapons facilities in the M.E. but has anyone figured out what chemical weapons were used at Douma? What were the chemical weapons facilities that were wiped out in the missile strike? The facilities that were targeted must have been in place for some time and known.

Otherwise, what Besoeker and g(r)omgoru said. However, you ought to issue a warning. My keyboard almost got wiped out due to a coffee spill.

Duterte to ICC prosecutor: I will arrest you if you come here
[Al Jazeera] Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has threatened to arrest the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor if she comes to Manila to investigate his deadly war on drugs.

In a presser on Friday, Duterte said international prosecutors "will never have jurisdiction" over him "in a million years", because the Philippines "was never a member of the ICC".

"You do not have jurisdiction even to conduct a preliminary investigation," he said, addressing ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda, who is taking initial steps to investigate the president for possible crimes against humanity for the alleged extrajudicial killings involving police.

"So, you Ms Fatou, don't come here, because I will bar you. You cannot exercise any proceedings here without basis. That is illegal and I will arrest you," Duterte said.

He also said the Philippines' membership in the international body was "flawed", thus negating its validity in the country.

Previously, Duterte had also criticised Fatou and a UN human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
official, hurling insults that critics labelled as racist and sexist.

The statement prompted UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein to call for Duterte's "psychiatric evaluation".

In March, Duterte announced that the Philippines was withdrawing from The Hague-based court "effective immediately".

Vienna court imprisons teen over planned Christmas attacks in Germany
[DW] A 19-year-old man was imprisoned for nine years over his involvement in plans for two Islamist extremist attacks in Germany. One of the suicide missions was to be carried out by a 12-year-old boy.

The Vienna Criminal Court sentenced an Austrian man of Albanian descent to nine years in prison on Friday in connection with plans for two Islamist extremist attacks in Germany.

The case highlights the challenges posed by radicalized youth ready to commit acts of terror at home and in neighboring countries.

What the court found
  • The man was found guilty of inciting a 12-year-old German-Iraqi boy to target a Christmas market in the city of Ludwigshafen. The child had tried but failed to detonate an explosive belt at the market in late 2016.
He made the “bomb” himself out of firecracker powder and nails, which he left on site in a backpack. Unsurprisingly, it failed to explode.
  • During the trial, the 19-year-old admitted to being a member of Islamic State but downplayed his role in plotting the attacks.

  • Reacting to his lengthy sentence, the turned defiant, saying: "I don't give a s***!"

What else happened in court?
  • As well as plotting multiple murders, the defendant was found guilty of membership of a terrorist organization.

  • The jury found the 19-year-old had incited his wife — whom he married under Sharia Law — to attack the Ramstein Air Base.

  • The 17-year-old girl with Moroccan heritage said she had fallen in love and let herself be influenced.

  • The market plotter, now aged 14, tried to cover for his older friend. "The idea was mine," he told the court.

  • The boy said he had considered beheading a priest, attacking a bus and a hospital.

What happens next?
  • Defense lawyer Wolfgang Blaschilz said he would consider appealing.

  • Blaschilz said the nine-year sentence was "way too much," and added that his client's deradicalization process was underway.
The Times of Israel adds:
During his trial, he denied giving any orders and said that, while he had considered targeting Ramstein, he had dropped the idea. He was arrested in Vienna in January 2017 following tips from German authorities.

The defendant testified he became a supporter of the Islamic State group following a previous jail term for robbery.

This Week in Guns, April 14th, 2018

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

Firearms laws news is good and bad, but it always seems to average out to the bad.

On the good side is a Texan who hit a target with a Cheytac .408 rifle rifle out to 5,280 yards. It took 11 shots to make that shot.

All well and good, but I have heard that a true test of a marksman is to be able to hit his target the first time, and then to hit a closer target, also the first time, all in the same session. No easy trick, I s'pect.

The flight time for the bullet was about 11 seconds. Paper targets don't move, but living targets do, and I doubt they will hold still for 11 seconds.

Hanging out in Clarice Feldman's Facebook page, an individual from Boston decided to share the depth of his knowledge of firearms by pointing out that many people can be killed with a simple movement of the trigger finger.

His pedigree hit all the right spots: from Massachusetts, an author with a novel to his credit, working a day job in public relations. I noticed he didn't ask, given all the semiautomatic guns in the US, why more people aren't killed by a simple movement of the trigger finger.

Oh well. I have arthritis in my middle finger and I am lazy, so he has that going for him.

Loads.

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Pistol ammunition prices were steady. Rifle ammunition prices were mostly steady.

Prices for used pistols were mostly lower. Prices for used rifles were mostly lower.

New Lows:

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Hezbollah's Nasrallah: Israel made 'historic mistake' in Syria
[Al Jazeera] A suspected Israeli missile assault on a Syrian airbase in Homs province was a "historic mistake", the leader of Leb's Iranian-backed Hezbollah has said in a televised speech.

Hassan Nasrallah said on Friday from the Lebanese capital, Beirut, that Israel has placed itself in direct combat with Iran, referring to missile attacks that targeted military sites in Syria on April 9.

Two Israeli warplanes, using Lebanese airspace, fired eight missiles at the T-4 military airbase, according to the Russian military.

The attack at the airbase, located 40km west of Palmyra, killed about 14 people, at least four of whom were Iranians from Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps - a separate force from Iran's army that answers only to the country's supreme leader.

Nasrallah described the attack as unprecedented in the region - something that could not be overlooked.

The missile strike followed a suspected chemical attack targeting Douma, a former rebel-held town in Eastern Ghouta, a suburb of Damascus that saw a two-month offensive by Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

-War on Police-
The De-Policing of America
[Front Page] Following the controversy of the recent fatal police shooting of a black suspect in California, Democrat lawmakers there have proposed a bill that would change the current "reasonable force" standard to one of "necessary force." This means that police officers potentially faced with imminent serious injury or death in a confrontation with a suspect would be allowed to shoot only if "there were no other reasonable alternatives to the use of deadly force," according to the ACLU, which predictably backs the proposal.

Law enforcement officials representing officers who put their lives on the line every day vehemently oppose this change. Modesto police Chief Galen Carroll, for example, told The Sacramento Bee that the proposed legislation "is a knee-jerk, politically feel-good piece that will not solve the very difficult split-second decisions officers make in very high-stress conditions."

True, but politically feel-good legislation that will not solve difficult problems is the Democrat Party way, particularly where the problems of law enforcement are concerned. Nothing characterizes the Progressive left today quite like an open contempt for law and order. On every issue, from Black Lives Matter to Antifa to sanctuary states to illegal immigration and more, the left always sides with the lawless.

India-Pakistan
Pakistani court bans ex-PM Nawaz Sharif from parliament for life
[Al Jazeera] Pakistain's Supreme Court has disqualified former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf, then by the courts...
, dismissed from his post over corruption allegations last year, from holding public office for life.

A five-member bench of the country's apex court unanimously ruled on Friday that anyone disqualified under a constitutional clause requiring politicians to be "honest and trustworthy" would be considered banned for life.

Sharif was dismissed from office as prime minister in July of last year, in a case lodged over disclosures in the Panama Papers leak, but which ultimately hinged on allegations that he had failed to declare a salary from his son's UAE-based company.

Sharif says that he never received the salary, and that he held a position within that company in order to maintain a valid business visa in the Gulf state. The Supreme Court ruled that whether he received the salary or not was immaterial.

The three-time prime minister and three of his children continue to face trial for corruption charges in a National Accountability Bureau court, which is due to deliver a verdict in the coming weeks.

Pakistain is due to hold a general election in July.

Libya’s Haftar reported dead in Paris
[ALMASDARNEWS] Egyptian politician Mustafa Bakri has issued a tweet about Haftar’s alleged death, writing that "The departure of Field Marshal Haftar, commander-in-chief of the Libyan Armed Forces, is a great loss. He was a common denominator among the honorable sons of Libya."

The Libya Observer has also reported that Haftar passed, citing diplomatic sources.

Earlier, Libyan National Army political administration head Hussein al-Obeidi said that Haftar had left La Belle France and returned to Benghazi on Friday, according to the EREM News portal. al-Obeidi said that he had personally met Field Marshal Hafter upon his return to Libya, and said that the field marshal’s health was "excellent" and that he was "in good physical shape."

The official also denied that Haftar had suffered a stroke, calling such informations "rumors spread by media supported by political Islam."

This week, Le Monde reported that Haftar may ave been sent for urgent treatment at a Gay Paree hospital. According to the newspaper, the 75-year-old military commander, presumably suffering a stroke, was taken by plane to Gay Paree via Jordan. LNA officials said however that Haftar had gone to Jordan for political negotiations.

Earlier Friday, a source said to be close to the matter told Rooters that Haftar had been treated in a Gay Paree hospital. The source declined to comment on the general’s condition.

province of Afghanistan.

The incident took place late on Thursday night in the vicinity of Shindand district, the officials added.

District administrative chief of Shindand Shukrullah Shakir confirmed the report and said at least ten ANP soldiers bit the dust in the attack.

Shakir further added that the attack was launched shortly after a roadisde bomb targeted a vehicle of the ANP forces as they were travelling through Larzanak area.

According to Shakir, the ANP forces came under heavy fire as they were attempting to support their comrades who were hurt in the roadside kaboom.

In the meantime, reports indicate that more than ten soldiers have bit the dust in the attack, two have been maimed, while two others are still missing.

A security official speaking on the condition confirmed that more than soldiers have been martyred but did not elaborate further regarding the exact number.

Herat is among the relatively calm provinces in the West and fewer terrorist related incidents have been reported from the province since the fall of the Taliban regime.

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
the anti-government armed krazed killer groups have been attempting to destabilize the province which borders some of the restive provinces in the South and Northwest as well as in the West.

Afghanistan
60 leaders of Taliban’s Quetta Council ready to join peace, claims Gen. Raziq
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The provincial police chief of southern Kandahar province Gen. Abdul Raziq claims that sixty top leaders of Taliban
...Arabic for students...
’s Quetta Council are prepared to join grinding of the peace processor led by the Afghans.

Speaking during a presser in Kandahar, Gen. Raziq claimed that he has reached to an agreement regarding the grinding of the peace processor with at least sixty top leaders of Taliban’s Quetta Council.

Gen. Raziq further added that the Taliban leaders are prepared to join grinding of the peace processor and will be resettled in Safe Zones in Kandahar province once they join the reconciliation.

He also added that the Taliban leaders who have showed willingness to join grinding of the peace processor, are among the top leaders of the group, who have served or actively serving in the senior ranks of the Taliban, ranging from ministerial to brigade levels.

According to Gen. Raziq, the Taliban leaders who are prepared to join grinding of the peace processor, are willing to participate in the upcoming parliamentary and district councils elections.

The Taliban group has not commented regarding the claims of Gen. Raziq so far.

This comes as the Taliban group has so far refrained from participation in direct peace talks with the Afghan government and insists on direct talks with the US.

This comes despite the Afghan government proposed that the government is prepared to recognize the group as a political movement besides making other offers to encourage the group to participate in the talks.
