Russia's Putin predicts global 'chaos' if West hits Syria again
[Reuters] MOSCOW/DAMASCUS (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin warned on Sunday that further Western attacks on Syria would bring chaos to world affairs, while signs emerged that Moscow and Washington want to pull back from the worst crisis in their relations for years.

Putin made his remarks in a telephone conversation with Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani after the United States, France and Britain launched missile strikes on Syria on Saturday over a suspected poison gas attack.

A Kremlin statement said Putin and Rouhani agreed that the Western strikes had damaged the chances of achieving a political resolution in the multi-sided, seven-year conflict that has killed at least half a million people.

"Vladimir Putin, in particular, stressed that if such actions committed in violation of the U.N. Charter continue, then it will inevitably lead to chaos in international relations," a Kremlin statement said.

Haley: Chemical attack could happen in US 'if we're not smart'
[The Hill] U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley defended U.S. strikes on Syria following a suspected chemical attack in the country, saying on Sunday that a similar attack could happen in the U.S. if precautions are not taken.

"This very easily could happen in the United States if we're not smart, and if we're not conscious of what's happening," Haley told Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday."

"We have to be very conscious of the fact that we cannot allow even the smallest use of chemical weapons. That's why you saw the president strike this past weekend, that's why you saw him expel 60 Russian spies after the attack in Salisbury," she said, referring to the poisoning of a former Russian spy and his daughter with a nerve agent on British soil last month.

Haley's comments come days after the U.S., in partnership with France and the U.K., launched over 100 missiles at three targets in Syria.

The attack was aimed at taking out Syria's chemical weapons facilities, though the strikes were limited and reports have already suggested they may have had a minimal impact on Syria's capability.

President Trump declared "mission accomplished" on the strikes, however, and the administration has touted them as having limited Syria's capabilities.

"We put a heavy blow into their chemical weapons program, setting them back years," Haley told Wallace.

"Hopefully he’s gotten the message, it was a pretty strong message," she said.

The strike came nearly a week after an apparent chemical attack took the lives of dozens of Syrian civilians in the rebel-held city of Douma.

Syrian President Bashar Assad has denied responsibility for the attack, but the White House said the administration has "high confidence" that Damascus was behind the attack.

'Ready for use' Hamas tunnel destroyed by IDF
[Jpost] The Israeli army destroyed a Hamas tunnel which infiltrated into Israeli territory overnight Sunday, IDF Spokesperson Brig.-Gen. Ronen Manelis stated.

Calling it a "significant tunnel," Manelis stated that Hamas began building it following the end of Operation Protective Edge in 2014 and that "the tunnel was ready for use."

It was the fifth cross-border tunnel to be found and destroyed by the Israeli army in recent months and the first to be found in the northern area of the Hamas-run enclave. Several other underground targets have also been destroyed inside in the Strip.

In February, the army destroyed one tunnel near Gaza's destroyed airport located east of Rafah in the southern part of the Strip close to the Israeli border and another one in the Zeitun neighborhood of Gaza City which was dug toward Israeli territory.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Did Hillary deliberately allow her server to be hacked?
[American Thinker] It is widely known and accepted that Russian elements have repeatedly exposed vulnerabilities in American infrastructure networks. A hacker known as "Guccifer 2.0," who according to the Daily Beast was an officer of Russia’s military intelligence directorate (GRU), has taken credit for providing WikiLeaks with stolen emails from the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

The US Government was also notified in 2015 by Israeli intelligence that Kaspersky Labs, a multinational cybersecurity and anti-virus software producer ran by Vladimir Putin Crony Eugene Kaspersky, had accessed sensitive information from the laptop of an NSA contractor.

The fact is, our intelligence has been aware of the constant Russian cyber-attacks for several years. In an effort to combat potential exposure of national secrets, the State Department has had policy in place since 2005 warning officials against the use of personal email accounts for government work.

That Hillary Clinton could maintain an unsecured server for most of her 4 years as Secretary of State seems to validate many of the popularized "deep state" conspiracy theories that have floated around the political right the past few years. Furthermore, apart from Guccifer 2.0’s Russian government link and stolen email exposure from a DNC hack, other involvement may be associated with malware, which was uncovered as a Chinese open-source tool.

Skipping down to the BLUF:

With rampant speculation about the Clinton monetization of the State Department in light of the Uranium One deal swirling, this question of whether keeping the server unprotected was to aid in the dissemination of American secrets to the international benefactors of the Clinton Foundation must be addressed.

The idea of establishing a clandestine email and classified message "leak machine" never occurred to me. It should have however, it should have. This requires serious investigation and not by the congress.

While we're at it, could we have another look at the DNC IT support piece provided by the Paki Awan Bros. please? It did go on for nearly a decade. No sense doing just half a load of laundry is there ?

Dershowitz: Comey Is ‘Revenge-Driven,' Never Should Have Run FBI (video)
[Breitbart] On Friday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s "Tucker Carlson Tonight," Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz stated former FBI Director James Comey "is revenge-driven," and never should have been in charge of the FBI.

Dershowitz stated Comey never been FBI Director in the first place, adding, "This is a man who is revenge-driven, who was prepared to leak through a law professor at Columbia, who was prepared to disclose confidential conversations he had with the president-elect and the president of the United States. He’s exactly the wrong person to have headed the most important law enforcement agency in the United States. ... I now have only very strong negative feelings about him, and he just enhances the suspicion that, I think so many Americans now have of law enforcement, and we ought to be trusting law enforcement. And nobody today would trust Comey with secrets or confidences."

Dershowitz also characterized Comey’s book as "the worst possible book, at the worst possible time, for the worst possible reasons."

Britain
Belmont Club: Sword and shield
[PJMedia] After the Theresa May gave Russia an deadline to explain why a Russian-made nerve agent was used against Sergei Skripai and his daughter Kremlin spokesman Maria Zakharova replied "one should not threaten a nuclear power". This dare of course made it a necessity for Britain to do just that.

The US led strike on Assad's chemical weapons facilities was probably more about the Salisbury than Syria.
So, the British provided the "Steele Dossier" - which is the basis of the entire "collusion" investigation. And now they engineer a shooting conflict between USA and Russia. What's going on?
About the need to draw a line somewhere because it had never been drawn before. In many ways the strike was an attempt to make amends for years of policy inaction that emboldened Putin until, perhaps without realizing it, he went too far. The Kremlin strongman refined his hybrid warfare tactics against the training set of Obama/Clinton and may have been genuinely shocked when the tactics which once served him so well have suddenly stopped working.

...If Congress really wanted a strategy that would work it would be to contain Russia only as necessary with measured force but principally rely on lower oil prices to bring the Kremlin down. Unfortunately it will only be days before we are back to the news cycle of scandal and social justice. The really significant collusion is occurring where Mueller will never look: in the self-interested policies of members of the Western alliance itself. It is in the billions of dollars of gas sales, not a few hundred thousand spent on Facebook that the problem lies.
I betcha there is a considerable merriment in Beijing and Teheran

Independent Swiss Lab Says 'BZ Toxin' Used In Skripal Poisoning; US/UK-Produced, Not Russian
Zero Hedge via Gates of Vienna
Remember how we were told my the politicians (not the scientists) that a deadly Novichok nerve agent - produced by Russia - was used in the attempted assassination of the Skripals? Remember the 50 questions (here and here) we had surrounding the 'facts' as Theresa May had laid them out? Ever wonder why, given how utterly deadly we were told this chemical was, the Skripals wondered around for a few hours after being 'infected' and then days later, survived with no chronic damage?

Well those doubts may well have just been answered as according to the independent Swiss state Spiez lab, the substance used on Sergei Skripal was an agent called BZ, which was never produced in Russia, but was in service in the US, UK, and other NATO states.
It's Zero Hedge of course, but...

#4  Proco, the US already has large quantities of BZ. Dugway, Utah, for one. Probably some at the Marshall Islands disposal facility. Also, I would imagine a smaller supply for 'reference' at Ft Deitrich, and also Ft Leonard Woods (where Chemical Corps trains).
The further point I'm curious about is, the whole 'Novichok' (newbie) agent is supposed to be a binary that combines onsite from two relatively safe precursors (the whole point).
There should be unreacted precursor traces around at site.
Where are they?

#6  The characteristic that makes BZ an incapacitating rather than a toxic chemical warfare agent is its high safety margin (ICt50/LCt50) of around 40-fold (range 32 to 384 fold).
BZ is odorless and nonirritating with delayed symptoms several hours after contact.

Iraq and Syria were rumored to have a similar product. Wikipedia

#7  BZ, BZ, why does that sound familiar? A little history from NBC (no, not NukeBioChem, the disreputable news service.)

BZ GAS was developed by the United States Army at the Edgewood Arsenal in Maryland during the 1950s as a military agent. It later was believed to have capability as a crowd control agent. There are no known detectors for its presence in either indoor or outdoor environments.

Some have speculated that the Russian government used BZ gas as the incapacitating agent to end the Moscow theater siege.

Ah, Nord-Ost! That's why it sounded familiar. The Russians used some sort of anesthetic gas on a theater full of people being held hostage.

This could explain why the Skripals were not dead soon after alleged exposure to an organophosphate agent.

#9  What the Russians say here could be true. Probably not, but it is possible. The OPCW report says they know what the agent was, but they will not publish that to anyone other than the nation states who are in the organization.

If no other nation state with the info from the OPCW do not disagree with Russia, then Russia should be believed on this.

If this was BZ instead of Novichok then this is a big deal. Not because it absolves the Russians cuz they could do BZ, but because it indites the British for claiming something else.

What does consent look like in the #MeToo era?
[WomenInTheWorld] Actor and former NFL player Terry Crews joined journalists Joanna Coles and Lauren Duca to discuss toxic masculinity, consent, and dating post-#MeToo.

‘People have to understand that masculinity can be a cult, and when I say cult, it’s not different from David Koresh, it’s not different from Jim Jones,' said activist, actor and former NFL player Terry Crews. He likened the detachment of men to slavery, when slave masters would observe slaves being beaten and feel nothing. 'There’s a lack of empathy from men who are in this cult," he said. 'A guy is looking at you that is not all the way human, and there is a humanity issue here.
"masculinity," if my High School recollections are accurate, appears to be the new "jock."

Afghanistan
Taliban Somehow ‘Ready For Talks’
[Tolo News] "Inner pressure, as well as internal, regional and foreign support will finally push the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
to say yes to intra-Afghan talks," the head of the HPC secretariat Akram Khpulwak told MPs in the Wolesi Jirga, the Lower House of Parliament, on Saturday.

"As per our information, discussions are ongoing among them (Taliban) and probably there might be some problems, but we are hopeful (about this process)," he said.

He said a big session of world religious scholars will be held in the near future. These scholars will declare the krazed killer’s war illegal.

"Religious scholars from across the world, at an organizational and union level, will announce that no war is legal against Afghanistan (government)," Khpulwak added.

The Wolesi Jirga session heard only the information provided by the HPC officials and MPs did not ask questions.

Haley Warns US ‘Locked And Loaded' If Assad Uses Chemical Weapons Again
[Daily Caller] As Russia and the U.S. traded barbs at the United Nations over the coalition strike on Syria, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley warned that the U.S. is "locked and loaded" should the Syrian regime decide to use chemical weapons again.

"I spoke to President Trump this morning and he said if the Syrian regime uses this poisonous gas again, the United States is locked and loaded," Haley said at an emergency U.N. Security Council meeting called by Russia. "When our president draws a red line, our president enforces the red line," she added, referencing former President Barack Obama’s failure to follow through on his threat to use military force in Syria should the Assad regime use illegal chemical weapons.

In response to a deadly chemical weapons attack allegedly perpetrated by the Syrian government under the leadership of Bashar al-Assad last weekend, a coalition force consisting of American, British, and French naval and aviation assets bombed three targets in Damascus and Homs said to be affiliated with Syria’s chemical warfare infrastructure early Saturday morning.

Russian guns were silent during the attack, the Pentagon revealed at a press briefing Saturday.

Pakistan successfully test launches enhanced version of Babur cruise missile
[DAWN] Pakistain on Saturday conducted a successful test of an enhanced range version of the indigenously developed Babur cruise missile to bolster the country’s deterrence capabilities, an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) blurb said.

The tested missile ‐ described by the ISPR as 'Babur Weapon System-1 (B)' ‐ incorporates advanced aerodynamics and avionics that can strike targets both at land and sea with high accuracy, at a range of 700 kilometres.

The Babur missile was unveiled in 2005 and since then has undergone several upgrades. It is a low-flying, terrain-hugging missile, which can hit targets both at land and sea with pinpoint accuracy, even in the absence of GPS navigation. It also has stealth features.

Equipped with the Terrain Contour Matching (TERCOM) and Digital Scene Matching and Area Co-relation (DSMAC) technologies, it can carry both nuclear and conventional warheads.

#1  Anyone out there think that some of these cruise missiles are nuclear capable, or will that sort of thing take Pak engineers more time to develop?
Posted by: Raj || 04/15/2018 5:51 Comments || Top||

#2  "incorporates advanced aerodynamics and avionics..." Getting it to fly is very advanced for the Paks. One can buy cheap "IFR" glass displays that incorporate build in GPS controlled autopilot nowadays, notably from a South Africa manufacturer.

Solution to this seems simple, send false GPS signal to the pak cruise missile and have fun with it. I would have it make a 180 and "return to sender" or someplace nearby where they would appreciate receiving it. Hopefully the sender would have enough time to mutter "rosebud" just before the actual package delivery.

Nah they wouldn't have time, so never mind.

'Comprehensive dialogue' the route to restoring peace in Kashmir: COAS
[DAWN] "Those peace-loving innocent citizens [of India-held Kashmire] are being subjected to one of the worst forms of state terrorism
... any action taken by a non-Moslem state that constrains the violent impulses of Moslems or their allies ...
. It is high time for the world community to wake up and play a positive role in bringing peace to that unfortunate part of the sub-continent."

The army chief reiterated that lasting peace in the region can be achieved only through dialogue, saying: "It is our sincere belief that the route to peaceful resolution of Pak-India disputes ‐ including the core issue of Kashmire ‐ runs through comprehensive and meaningful dialogue.

"While such dialogue is no favour to any party, it remains the inevitable precursor to peace across the region. Pakistain remains committed to such a dialogue, but only on the basis of sovereign equality, dignity and honour."

Gen Bajwa said that even though Pakistain seeks harmonious and peaceful co-existence with all countries, "this desire for peace must not, in any sense, be construed as a sign of weakness".

"Our valiant armed forces are fully prepared to respond across the full spectrum of threat in a befitting manner."

UAE plane blocked from leaving Somalia's Puntland region
[Al Jazeera] Somali officials are said to have stopped a plane from the United Arab Emirates from leaving the country after Emirati military trainers on board refused to hand over their luggage to be scanned and searched.

The local news website Mareeg reported on Saturday that Somali officials at Bosaso airport insisted that the "heavy bags" on the flight be checked, resulting in an hours-long standoff.

It added that talks were under way between Somali's semi-autonomous Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
region and the UAE to end the row.

The UAE foreign ministry has not commented on the matter.

The news comes just days after Somalia's government seized several bags of money carrying almost $10m from a plane that arrived at Mogadishu airport from Abu Dhabi.

The money was found in three unmarked bags on a Royal Jet plane, the Somali interior ministry said, adding it was investigating where it came from, where it was going and the individuals involved.

"The security forces noticed the suspicious bags and handed them over to the concerned departments," Somalia's security ministry said in a statement.

Russia spied on Skripal and daughter for at least five years: UK
LONDON (Reuters) - Russia’s intelligence agencies spied on former double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia for at least five years before they were attacked with a nerve agent in March, the national security adviser to Britain’s prime minister said.

Mark Sedwill said in a letter to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Friday that email accounts of Yulia had been targeted in 2013 by cyber specialists from Russia’s GRU military intelligence service.

Sedwill also said in the letter, which was published by the government, that it was "highly likely that the Russian intelligence services view at least some of its defectors as legitimate targets for assassination."

The Skripals were targeted by what London says was a nerve agent attack that left both of them critically ill for weeks. British Prime Minister Theresa May has said it is highly likely that Moscow was behind the attack.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted on Friday that a report this week by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) did not confirm the origin of the poison used against the Skripals.

Lavrov said the report only confirmed the composition of the substance and that Britain’s claim that it confirmed the UK position on the Skripal case was overstated.

Separately on Friday, Russia’s ambassador to Britain said he was concerned the British government was trying to get rid of evidence related to the case.

"We get the impression that the British government is deliberately pursuing the policy of destroying all possible evidence, classifying all remaining materials and making an independent and transparent investigation impossible," Alexander Yakovenko told reporters.

He also said Russia could not be sure about the authenticity of a statement issued by Yulia Skripal on Wednesday in which she declined the offer of help from the Russian embassy.

Iraq condemns US-led attack on Syria
Shaking fists and stamping feet to no effect whatsoever. A number of countries likewise condemned the US-led attack. That will not undo what was done, nor prevent it the next time, which is why other countries were more measured in their response.
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Spokesperson for the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, Ahmad Mahjoub, stated on Saturday that condemned the US-led attack on Syria earlier today.

In a statement released late this afternoon, Mahjoub expressed Iraq’s disapproval over the attack, claiming that this strike will only strengthen the terrorist groups in the region.

Majoub stated that Iraq is preparing to hold a meeting with Arab leaders to adopt a clear stance regarding this perilous event.

Mahjoub would conclude his statement by stressing the need for a political settlement to the Syrian crisis.

Iraq joined Leb and Algeria to become the third Arab nation to condemn the US-led attack on Saturday.

Russia Claims 71 Out Of 105 Cruise Missiles Downed In Yesteday's Air Strikes. None Were Shot Down According to The US.

#2  ...The vaunted S-400 does not seem to have done well at all Friday night, assuming any were even fired. What struck me was the video footage of SAMs being launched, and climbing way, way higher than any attacking aircraft or missiles would have been. That seems consistent with the Syrians opening fire after everybody had gone home, and it was safe to do so without catching a GBU or HARM in their laps.

(Also, an aside - there is at least some possibility that there's no such thing as an S-400 - it's the S-300 with a new nameplate and price tag...and the S-300 was competent enough, but no Excaliburski.)

Happened during Northern Watch-Southern Watch in the 1999-2000 timeframe as well. Flipping on those Russian T-14 'Tall king Radars' too soon can be hazardous to one's health. Triple-A batteries routinely fired a few rounds after the fact.

#7  I'm no expert but to me it seems a bit odd that all these missiles were shot down and yet not a single one of the airplanes was hit. A missile's mission is to crash and burn, hopefully on its target, so it's difficult if not impossible to verify Russia's claim. But if Assad could claim even one of the warplanes was knocked out of the sky that could be verified and it would be a huge victory for him. Strange that didn't happen.

#9  Most of the missiles used were (relatively) "old and dumb" US Tomahawk cruise missiles. That the Soviets Russians couldn't do a better job shooting them down is ... interesting... considering that they have had decades to figure out counter-measures. (And we have counter-counter-measures...)

Lions of Islam in an ambush set up, northeast of Baquba, Diyala, a security source said on Saturday.

Speaking to Baghdad Today website, the source said, "Islamic State members set up an ambush on the sides of Neft Khana road, near Khanqeen, northeast of Baquba."

The myrmidons, according to the source, "slaughtered one of the personnel of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces), of the 110th brigade."

Thousands of IS Lions of Islam as well as Iraqi non-combatants were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition, was launched in October 2016 to fight the myrmidon group.

In December, Abadi announced full liberation of Iraqi lands, declaring end of war against IS members. However,

Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the myrmidon group still poses threat against stability in the country.

Backpage.com CEO pleads guilty to human trafficking
[Engadget] Documents unsealed today by the Justice Department (PDF) reveal Backpage.com CEO Carl Ferrer pleaded guilty to federal conspiracy charges in Arizona on April 5th, a day before the site was seized and shut down. Additionally, attorneys general in California and Texas announced today that the site itself has entered a guilty plea to charges of human trafficking in Texas, while Ferrer pleaded guilty to conspiracy and three counts of money laundering in California. Several corporate entities tied to the site, including Backpage.com LLC, also entered guilty pleas to charges of money laundering.

As a part of the deal that will see him serve a maximum of five years in prison, the prosecutors say Ferrer has surrendered the URLs of the site and its data to law enforcement, and that he will cooperate in the prosecution against others involved with the company -- namely co-founders and controlling shareholders Michael Lacey and James Larkin, who were indicted April 9th.

The plea deal includes Ferrer's admission that a majority of the site's ads were for sex services, and that he conspired with others to launder proceeds from the ads after credit card companies and banks wouldn't do business with the site.

Senior Afghan police official assassinated in Kandahar city
[KhaamaPress] A senior police official has been assassinated by unknown button men in Kandahar city, the picturesque provincial capital of southern Kandahar province.

According to the local officials, the incident took place at around noon time in the vicinity of the 9th police district of the city.

Sources in the governor’s office in Kandahar say the victim was the police chief of Shahr Safa district of southern Zabul province.

The sources further added that the police chief Gul Ahmad Gerani was rubbed out as he was travelling in the vicinity of the ninth police district of the city.

A security guard of Mr. Gerani was also maimed in the attack, the sources said, adding that the assailants have managed to flee the area.

No individual or group has so far grabbed credit behind the attack.

This comes as the security situation in southern Kandahar province had relatively improved during the recent months but the bad boy groups are attempting to carry out attacks in some key parts of the province during the recent weeks and months.

East Ghouta officially under the Syrian Army’s control after last militant convoy leaves Douma
[AlMasdarNews] The East Ghouta region of Damascus is now officially under the control of the Syrian government, a military source told al-Masdar News tonight.

According to the military source, the last faceless myrmidons of Jaish al-Islam
...Liwa al-Islam (Brigade of Islam) was established by Zahran Alloush, the son of Saudi-based religious scholar Abdullah Mohammed Alloush, after Syrian authorities released him from prison in mid-2011 where he had been serving time for his Salafist activism. The group claimed responsibility for carrying out the July 2012 Damascus bombing that killed Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, Deputy Defense Minister Asef Shawkat, and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani. It was a driving force behind actions in the Damascus region. It cooperated and conducted joint operations with al-Nusra. In Sptember 2013 Saudi Arabia engineered Liwa al-Islam's merger with fifty other more or less Salafist groups as a counterweight to al-Nusra, which the Learned Elders of Islam considered was growing too powereful...
and their family members were transported via bus from the East Ghouta town of Douma to northern Syria.

While Douma is free of Jaish al-Islam bad boys, the Syrian Army will not enter the town, per the agreement that was put in place between the Russian Reconciliation Centre and local rebels.

The Russian and Syrian military police did however enter Douma and will work with the state government to reintroduce several institutions inside town.

The East Ghouta operation is officially over; most Syrian Army troops will be redeployed.

Myanmar ‘seriously concerned’ over International Criminal Court move
[DAWN] The government of Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi expressed "serious concern" on Friday over a move by the International Criminal Court prosecutor seeking jurisdiction over alleged deportations of Rohingya Moslems from Myanmar to Bangladesh.

Since August, nearly 700,000 Rohingya Moslems have fled a brutal military crackdown in Myanmar, the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
and aid agencies have said.

The refugees have reported killings, rape and arson on a large scale. The United States and the United Nations have described the situation as ethnic cleansing.

Myanmar has denied nearly all allegations, saying it waged a legitimate counter-insurgency operation. The army has said its crackdown was provoked by the attacks of Rohingya turbans on more than two dozen police posts and an army base last August.

Fresh rape allegations levelled against Islamic scholar Tariq Ramadan
[DAWN] Prominent Islamic scholar Tariq Ramadan, who is in French detention over several rape allegations, is facing a new accusation of rape, this time in Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
, a Swiss daily reported Friday.

A Swiss woman is pressing criminal charges against Ramadan, 55, alleging he raped her and held her against her will for several hours in a Geneva hotel room a decade ago, the Tribune de Geneve (TdG) daily reported.

When contacted by AFP, the woman's lawyer Romain Jordan confirmed that criminal charges had been filed in Geneva on Friday, but said he did not want to make any further comments at this stage.

"We are confident in our case," he said.

The alleged victim, who was not identified, is not the first to accuse Ramadan.

The prominent TV pundit and Oxford University professor, whose grandfather founded Egypt's Moslem Brüderbund movement, was detained by a French court in February over charges that he raped two Moslem women in La Belle France.

Jeremy Corbyn: Allies' bombing is 'legally questionable'
The current head of Britain’s Labour party puts hmself on the wrong side of yet another issue. Is there a single thing he’s right about?
[Al Jazeera] The leader of Britannia's largest opposition party is suggesting Theresa May, the prime minister, could face a backlash in parliament for her decision to join the US and La Belle France in launching strikes against Syria.

The Labour Party's Jeremy Corbyn says the allies' bombing is "legally questionable" and risks further escalating "an already devastating conflict".

"May should have sought parliamentary approval, not trailed after Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...

US and France say none of their missiles intercepted in Syria
[Al Jazeera] The US and La Belle France have denied Russian claim that Syrian air defence had intercepted at least 71 cruise missiles fired by the US, the UK and French forces early on Saturday.

"None of our aircraft or missiles involved in this operation were successfully engaged by Syrian air defences," Lieutenant-General Kenneth McKenzie, the director of the Joint Staff at the Pentagon, said at a press briefing on Saturday.

He said there were no known civilian casualties, but noted Syria had fired about 40 unguided surface-to-air missiles, most of which didn't launch until after the allied strike was over.

"When you shoot iron into the air without guidance, it's going to come down somewhere," McKenzie said.

Earlier, French officials said that they believed none of their missiles was intercepted.

Speaking at a news conference in Moscow on Saturday, Lieutenant-General Sergey Rudskoy had said that at least 103 cruise missiles, including Tomahawks, were fired into a number of targets in Syria.

"Russia has fully restored the air defence system of Syria, and it continues to improve it over the last six months," Rudskoy said.

ISIS attempts breakout insouthern Damascus, stopped by Syrian army

ISIS launches offensive in southern Damascus after US Coalition bombs Syria

[AlMasdarNews] The Islamic State (ISIS) took advantage of the U.S. Coalition’s latest attack to launch a powerful offensive inside the southern part of Damascus, a Syrian military source told Al-Masdar this morning.

According to the military source, the Islamic State began their assault by storming the Syrian Army’s positions along the western axis of the Al-Qadam District.

No gains have been reported thus far; however, intense clashes are ongoing.

The Syrian Army will likely be able to fend off this assault, as they recently deployed a large number of soldiers to this front in order to launch an offensive against the terrorist. group.

Opportunistic offensive by ISIS is derailed by Syrian Army troops in southern Damascus

[AlMasdarNews] The Islamic State (ISIS) attempted to take advantage of the US-led attack on Syria today in order to capture new areas inside the southern districts of Damascus.

However, this offensive would be short-lived, as the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and their Palestinian allies were able to beat back the encroaching terrorists.

According to a military source in Damascus, the Islamic State had attempt to catch the Syrian Army off guard with the attack, but were completely overwhelmed by the latter’s manpower and firepower.

The Syrian Arab Army is now preparing to launch an offensive in southern Damascus alongside their Palestinian allies.

The goal of this southern Damascus offensive is to capture all of the areas currently controlled by the Islamic State.

Syrian Army moves into position to launch southern Damascus offensive

[AlMasdarNews] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has moved into position, tonight, to launch their long-awaited southern Damascus offensive, a military source told al-Masdar News.

According to the source, the Syrian Army’s High Command was awaiting the US’ strikes before giving the green light to their troops to kickoff operations against the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) in southern Damascus.

The source added that the Syrian Army’s High Command wanted to make sure their were no disruptions that could potentially setback the offensive.

Earlier in the day, they faced their first challenge in southern Damascus, when the Islamic State launched an attack on their positions near the western axis of al-Qadam.

The attack was ultimately repelled after a short battle with the Islamic State terrorists.

Modi says India shamed by rape and murder of Kashmiri girl
[DAWN] Eight men accused in the gang-rape and murder case of an eight-year-old Kashmiri girl who were protected by ministers and lawyers loyal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have seized the attention of millions as rage continued to course across India on Friday at the horror of what the little girl suffered.

Mr Modi, in a message, called it a shame for any civilised society after opposition groups, including a large candlelight vigil by Congress President Rahul, demanded a statement from him.

They asked Mr Modi to speak on the Kashmiri outrage and the alleged rape of another minor girl in Uttar Pradesh by a BJP MLA.

The victim’s father died in police custody after he was beaten and tortured by relatives of the MLA and police. The Supreme Court slammed the state administration for its apparent connivance in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh.

The Supreme Court also ordered Hindu nationalist lawyers in Kashmire not to block the legal process. The crime was planned by a former revenue officer who wanted to drive the girl’s nomadic Moslem community of Bakerwals out of the Rassana area of Kathua, according to an investigation by NDTV.

It said that on Jan 10, the little girl in a purple dress, was grazing her horses near her one-room home when one of the accused, a 19-year-old, called her into the forest pretending to help look for a missing horse. The horse returned without her.

The police say the man dragged her to a small village temple and drugged her. For three days, the man and two others gang-raped her, keeping her sedated and without food. Before she was strangled and hit twice with a heavy rock for good measure, one of the men stopped the killer to rape her one last time, NDTV said.

The girl’s body was found in the forests on January 17.

Investigations led the police to the 19-year-old school dropout who had often seen the girl grazing horses, and to his uncle Sanji Ram, who was in charge of the temple where police found forensic evidence.

Sanji Ram, one of the accused persons, was a former government official who allegedly planned the depraved crime and even kept a huge amount of money for bribes, NDTV said. He was incarcerated
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
after the teen’s confession, forensic tests and information based on the interrogation of various suspects.

The man who allegedly wanted to rape the girl one more time before her murder was Special Police Officer Deepak Khajuria, according to the police charge sheet.

He was named in the teen’s statement to the police. Call data records also established his presence at the place where she had been kept locked in for days.

Another accused person was the special police officer, Surinder Kumar. Witnesses saw him at the scene of the crime. Call data records also proved his presence.

The teen named his friend Parvesh Kumar as one of the men who repeatedly raped the child.

Sanji Ram’s son Vishal Jangotra was arrested on the basis of forensic tests. Vishal, studying in Meerut, travelled to Kathua after a phone-call from the teen who said he could "satisfy his lust", the police charge sheet says.

KP Assembly asks govt to raise Afghan seminary attack at UN
[DAWN] The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Friday condemned the killing of over 100 students and teachers in the recent US bombing of a graduation ceremony at a seminary in Afghanistan’s Kunduz province.

By unanimously adopting a resolution, the house asked the federal government to raise the issue at international forums, including the United Nations

, to ’expose the US barbarism’.

Pakistain People’s Party MPA Fakhar Azam tabled the resolution, which was unanimously adopted.

The resolution declared the US attack on seminary inhuman and open terrorism and said the US aggression was an open challenge to the international community but no country condemned it.

Egyptian army foils 'major' terror attack in central Sinai, kills 14 terrorists
[AlAhram] The Egyptian army said in a statement Saturday it had foiled a major terrorist attack in Central Sinai, killing 14 murderous Moslems who attempted to break into camps of the armed forces.

The incident led to eight casualties and 15 injuries among Egyptian forces, according to army spokesperson Tamer El-Refai.

"Among the 14 terrorist elements there were four wearing boom belts and they were all armed with automatic rifles, medium-calibre rifles, and RPGs," the statement read.

"They all attempted to break into camps of the Egyptian armed forces at dawn on Saturday, but their attempt was foiled," the statement added.

The incident comes amid Egypt's ongoing Operation Sinai 2018.

India Accuses British Rohingya Man as Al-Qaeda Terror Group Operative
[RFA.ORG] A British Rohingya man has been charged with helping the al-Qaeda Death Eater group build its base in the Indian sub-continent, according to a charge sheet drawn up by India’s top counter terror agency.

Suspect Samiun Rahman, 28, fought for al-Qaeda in Syria, then travelled to Bangladesh and India to recruit people to fight against alleged atrocities committed against Rohingya Moslems by Buddhist-majority Myanmar, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) said in a charge sheet made public on Wednesday.

Rahman served three years in prison in Bangladesh on related charges there before entering India in July 2017. He was incarcerated
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
in New Delhi in September last year.

"After detailed investigation of Rahman’s online chats on several mobile applications and documents recovered from his laptop, it was revealed that he fought against the Syrian army from an al-Qaeda base in Syria. He was then sent to Bangladesh due to his knowledge of the local language and was assigned the task of establishing an al-Qaeda base in the Indian sub-continent," the NIA alleged.

Rahman had served time in a London jail for a traffic violation before his first trip to Syria, the charge sheet said.

"After his release, he went to Syria for the first time to help refugees and returned to London after almost two months. In 2013, he again went to Syria and subsequently, after establishing contact with an al-Qaeda operative, he traveled to Bangladesh to radicalize youths," the NIA said.

India and Bangladesh are al-Qaeda’s prime targets for recruitment and terrorist plots besides the United States and Israel, Rahman told Sherlocks, according to the charge sheet.

Al-Qaeda was trying to tap potential recruits in several states, particularly the disputed Moslem-majority region of Indian Kashmire, it added.

Rahman was arrested in India’s capital last year on suspicion of being involved in terrorist activities after he allegedly crossed into Indian territory from Bangladesh illegally, according to the charge sheet, accessed by BenarNews, an RFA-affiliated online news service.

Iranian officers reported killed in Aleppo base explosion
[Ynet] Base, in Aleppo's southern suburbs, evacuated by Syrian, Iranian personnel days ago out of fear of US strike; unconfirmed reports attribute blast to fighter jet attack; Iranians reported to be among those maimed, killed.

Arabic-language media outlet reported Saturday evening that an kaboom took place in one of the large storehouses used by Iranian forces in Syria‐one located in Jabel Azzan in the southern suburbs of the Aleppo district. Several people were reported maimed and killed, including Iranian officers.

It was further reported by "field activists" that the blast was the result of a fighter jet's attack or missiles launched at the base.

Britannia-based war monitor The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights corroborated the report, saying a huge blast was heard in a Syrian government-controlled area in a rural region south of Aleppo.

The Observatory said the cause of the kaboom was unknown, as well as its target.

Several days ago, Iranian and Syrian regime forces evacuated the base out of fear of an American strike.

Word of the purported attack came less than 24 hours following a joint American, British and French strike on Syria, with several targets hit by more than 100 missiles. Several targets in Damascus and its vicinity were hit, official Syrian sources said, including a research center and military base. The Pentagon said the strike was a success, and that its efficacy was so great that it set back the Syrian chemical weapons program a decade.

The strike came in retaliation to chemical weapons allegedly used by Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Lord of the Baath...
's regime in Douma, on the outskirts of Damascus, last week.

Russia's response to the strike was scathing, with a statement put out Saturday morning on behalf of President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
saying it was a "violation of international law" that will "exacerbate the humanitarian disaster in Syria."

Moscow may consider supplying S-300 surface to-air missile systems to Syria and "other countries," Colonel-General Sergei Rudskoi told a televised briefing on Saturday. Russia had "refused" supplying those missiles to Syria a few years ago, he added, "taking into account the pressing request of some of our Western partners."

Following the US-led strikes, however, "we consider it possible to return to examination of this issue not only in regard to Syria but to other countries as well," Rudskoi said.
The Times of Israel adds:
The depot, said to be one of the biggest in the country, is located in Mount Azzan near Aleppo and was reportedly being used by Iran’s Lebanese proxy Hezbollah and other Iranian militias in Syria.

The Lebanese news service al-Mayadeen, said to have close ties to Hezbollah, reported that the Lebanese terror group denied any military strike took place and said there were some controlled kabooms near the site earlier in the day.

Protesters in Hungary demand new vote, new electoral system
[WASHINGTONPOST] Tens of thousands of anti-government protesters marched Saturday in the Hungarian capital of Budapest, demanding a new election and a new national electoral system in the biggest opposition rally in years.

Prime Minister Viktor Orban was re-elected for a fourth term last week. His right-wing populist Fidesz party won a supermajority in the national assembly, with preliminary results showing that Fidesz and tiny ally the Christian Democratic party won 134 seats in the 199-seat legislature.

Opposition supporters are upset that Hungary’s electoral rules have given Orban’s party such a large majority in Parliament when it only won around 50 percent of the vote.

While the left-wing opposition parties won 12 of 18 seats at stake in Budapest districts, Fidesz won 85 of 88 seats outside the capital. The other 93 seats were allocated based on votes for party lists.

Protesters marched from the Opera to Parliament, shouting "New elections!" ’’We are the majority!" ’’Vik-tator!" and "Filthy Fidesz!"

The size of the crowd, overflowing from the city’s Kossuth Square outside the striking neo-Gothic Parliament, rivalled the pro-government "Peace March" held on March 15. Organizers said another anti-government protest would be held next weekend.

"We want new and fair elections," opposition activist Gergely Gulyas told the huge crowd. "This is the responsibility of the government and we’re going to remind them of this, peacefully and massively."

Orban, whose campaign focused on the demonization of migrants colonists, has promised "significant changes" in his next government, which could push for a constitutional amendment against migration.

A fragmented opposition, a complex electoral system that disproportionately favors the biggest party and Orban’s decision to greatly facilitate citizenship for Hungarians living in neighboring countries like Romania and Serbia all contributed to his large win on April 8.

Over 96 percent of voters in those bordering countries ‐ including areas that Hungary lost after World War I ‐ backed Orban’s Fidesz party.

"When I asked my grandparents why they allowed (communist dictator) Matyas Rakosi to stay in power for so long, they answered that they were scared," writer and journalist Gergely Homonnay, one of the rally’s organizers, told protesters. "Well, I’m not scared. We’re not scared."

Four Palestinian terrorists killed in explosion near Rafah
[Ynet] Paleostinians try to pin kaboom on IDF, claiming it fired tank shells at Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, military post in the southern Gazoo Strip; IDF denies charges; Islamic Jihad turbans likely killed in work accident.

Four Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
bad boyz were potted and several other Paleostinians were maimed Saturday afternoon in an kaboom in the southern Gazoo Strip, east of Rafah.

The four were likely killed in a work accident, by either an bomb or a rocket blowing up in their three-wheeled vehicle.

Local residents at the hospital morgue identified the four dead men as members of the Paleostinian Islamic Jihad group. Islamic Jihad did not immediately confirm the men were members.

Initially, the Paleostinians tried to pin the incident on the IDF, saying the Israeli army attacked a Hamas position with tank fire.

The IDF denied the claim. "We have no knowledge of any Israeli strike in the area," an IDF spokesperson said.

The incident comes a day after some 10,000 Gazooks gathered at the border with Israel to stage another protest as part of their "March of Return" for a third consecutive week.

The IDF said that a number of protesters attempted to damage and cross security blocks set up ahead of the demonstrations, while others attempted to carry out terror attacks by hurling bombs and Molotov cocktails.

One such bomb planted in the vicinity of the Karni crossing ended up injuring several demonstrators by mistake after detonating prematurely.

The protests included a new method aimed at harming Israel beyond the fence in the form of kites being set alight and flown over the fence onto Israeli territory. A video demonstrating this method was published on Wednesday in a bid to encourage the residents to fly the burning kites into Israel. The video shows a kite landing in Israeli territory and causing a fire to the vegetation fields surrounding a military base, before spreading and promting the arrival of Israeli firefighters.

The soldiers responded with live rounds towards main perpetrators and riot dispersal measures.

A 28-year-old Paleostinian man was killed, while about 30 protesters were maimed by IDF gunfire, the IDF confirmed. Gazoo health officials say 528 Paleostinians were hurt, including 122 by Israeli army fire.
The Times of Israel adds:
Paleostinian terror organization Islamic Jihad said Saturday that four of its members were killed in an accidental kaboom near the Gazoo Strip border with Israel.

The group said in a statement that the four died during "preparations," without giving further details. Army Radio reported that the bad boyz were potted while carrying explosives in an all-terrain vehicle, suggesting the blast may have been a "work accident." AFP said they were riding a tuk tuk vehicle which went kaboom! a few hundred meters from the border with Israel.

The four fatalities were named as Hisham Abdel Al, Elias Al Katrous, Ae’d Al Hamaydeh, and Mohammad Al Krinawi, according to Paleostinian sources.

Personal Narrative of a Pilgrimage to Al-Madinah & Meccah
Volume 1 of 2

Sir Richard F. Burton
Dover Publications, 1964

In 1852, self professed orientalist Sir Richard F. Burton came up with a plan to immerse himself in a quite dangerous wanderlust. In his own words:

Page 2

What remained for me but to prove, by trial, that what might be perilous to other travelers was safe to me? The "experimentum crucis" was a visit to Al-Hijaz, at once the most difficult and the most dangerous point by which a European can enter Arabia. I had intended, had the period of leave originally applied for been granted, to land at Maskat - a favorable starting place - and there to apply myself, slowly and surely, to the task of spanning the deserts. But now I was to hurry, in the midst of summer, after a four years' sojourn in Europe, during which many things Oriental had faded away from my memory, and - after passing through the ordeal of Egypt, a country where the police is curious as in Rome or Milan - to begin with the Moslem's Holy Land, the jealously guarded and exclusive Harim. However, being liberally supplied with the means for travel by the Royal Geographical Society; thoroughly tired of "progress" and of "civilization"; curious to see with my eyes and what others are content to "hear with ears," namely, Moslem inner life in a really Mohammedan country; and longing, if truth be told, to set foot on that mysterious spot which no vacation tourist has yet described, measured, sketched and photographed, I resolved to resume my old character of a Persian wanderer, a "Darwaysh," and to make the attempt.

I found Sir Burton's account much like reading a James Bond script. I found him astute with a dry wit and very fair. He was also a man of action.

Page 193-194

At first I began to lay on load with main morte, really fearing to kill some one with such a weapon; but it soon became evident that the Maghrabis' heads and shoulders could bear and did require the utmost exertion of strength. Presently a though struck me. A large earthen jar full of drinking water, - in its heavy frame of wood the weight might have been 100 lbs., - stood upon the edge of the poop, and the thick of the fray took place beneath. Seeing an opportunity, I crept up to the jar, and, without attracting attention, rolled it down by a smart push with the shoulder upon the swarm of assailants. The fall caused a shriller shriek to rise above the ordinary din, for heads, limbs, and bodies were sorely bruised by the weight, scratched by the broken potsherds, and wetted by the sudden discharge. A fear that something worse might be coming made the Maghrabis slink off towards the end of the vessel. After a few minutes, we, sitting in grave silence, received a deputation of individuals in whity-brown Burnus, spotted and striped with what Mephistopheles calls a "curious juice." They solicited peace, which we granted upon the condition that they would pledge themselves to keep it. Our heads, shoulders, and hands were penitentially kissed, and presently the fellows returned to bind up their hurts in dirty rags. We owed this victory entirely to our own exertions, and the meek Omar was by far the fiercest of the party. Our Rais, as we afterwards learned, was an old fool who could do nothing but call for the Fatihah, claim Bakhshish at every place where we moored for the night, and spend his leisure hours in the "Caccia del Mediterraneo." Our crew consisted of half a dozen Egyptian lads, who, not being able to defend themselves, were periodically chastised by the Maghrabis, especially when any attempt was made to cook, to fetch water, or to prepare a pipe.

There were a number of words, locations, and events I was not immediately familiar with. Fortunately, if Sir Burton does not clarify a situation, the book is packed with footnotes containing information related to the current page.

Page 272

We travelled that night up the Fiumara in an Easterly direction, and at early dawn (July 24th) found ourselves in an ill-famed gorge called Shuab al-Hajj*

-Footnotes-
*Shuab properly means a path through mountains, or a water-course between hills. It is generally used in Arabia for a "Valley" and sometimes instead of Nakb, or the Turkish Bughaz, a "Pass".

I found Sir Burton's account an interesting anthropological look at pre-oil Egypt and Arabia, including travel, medicine, cultural behaviors, as well as a satisfying adventure made more exciting as this really did happen, his stakes high and success uncertain. I look forward to reading Volume 2.

This Week in Emergency Preparedness
Looking at the weather, this is one of those 'If you ain't already prepared, too late' kind of weeks. Specifically, looking at Western Oklahoma, which has taken it right in the junk the last few days. I'd guess -unofficially- some 400,000 acres burned in 48 hours; winds gusting to 60mph at 100F Thursday, first from the southwest then shifting north-northwest with temps below freezing Saturday morning, and they are still at it. A number of entire towns were evacuated.

Up north it looks like I-80 is a long parking lot at the moment.

A few posts ago having an idea of what the weather will be like was discussed. Apparently, a gentleman decided that Thursday was a good day to go hunting. The fires overcame his position and he survived by pure grace on account of a water tank within running distance. As it is said, it all begins with awareness. Here, awareness saved the gentleman at the very last second.

*Western Oklahoma has been ringing the bell hard since Thursday - structures lost, cattle enveloped, injuries including firefighters, and at least one fatality. I know there is a lot going on in the news and this will certainly not make the front page unless Oprah has a house out yonder. Seems cheesy, but even just words of encouragement helped us out last year.

Looking at Movies
I believe I missed the chance to review Only The Brave when it was released. Honestly, after our firestorm last year I really dreaded watching this film. In fact, I hated the idea.

I am glad I watched it anyway. I found it well acted, well scripted, and well produced. The soundtrack was appropriate, and whatever emotional tricks they pulled were not blemishes or hokey. Check it out — I'm glad I did.

Egypt extends nationwide state of emergency for three months
Unexpectedly.
[AlAhram] Egypt has extended an ongoing nationwide state of emergency another three months, starting Saturday 14 April, the official gazette reported late on Friday.

The decree to extend the state of emergency, which was signed by Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, says that the extension is to "allow the Armed Forces and police to undertake necessary measures to face the dangers of terrorism and its funding, safeguard security nationwide, secure private and public property, and protect the lives of citizens."

The state of emergency was first implemented in April 2017 after jacket wallahs attacked two churches in Alexandria and Tanta, killing 47 people and injuring dozens.

A new decree further lengthening it was issued in October and then extended in January. According the Egyptian constitution, a state of emergency cannot exceed six months from its date of declaration and decrees imposing or extending it should be approved by the parliament.

The state of emergency includes a curfew in parts of North Sinai from 7pm until 6am, except in El-Arish city and on the international road, where the curfew is in effect from1am to 5am.

Egypt’s security forces are continuing to carry out the comprehensive counterterrorism military Operation Sinai 2018.

Operation Sinai 2018 was launched earlier this year "to implement the plan of comprehensive confrontation of terrorist and criminal elements and organizations in North and Central Sinai, and in other areas in the Nile Delta and desert areas west of the Nile Valley," according to the army.

Egyptian Army says 27 'takfiris' killed, 114 suspects arrested as part of Operation Sinai 2018
[AlAhram] The Egyptian army and police in North and Central Sinai have killed 27 "takfiri

Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
114 suspects, 21 of which had criminal records, during the past few days.

A seven-minute video-statement issued Saturday by the Egyptian army is the 19th communiqué since the launch of Operation Sinai 2018 in early February.

The Egyptian military described 15 among the dead as “extremely dangerous,” six having died in strikes by the Egyptian Air Forces.
The Egyptian military described 15 among the dead as "extremely dangerous," six having died in strikes by the Egyptian Air Forces.

The rest of the 12 were killed during festivities with police personnel. The statement highlighted that ammunition and arms were found inside their hideouts.

Security forces confiscated and destroyed over 15 vehicles and 43 cycle of violences.

The military statement added that 150 hideouts filled with weaponry, ammunition and military uniforms were destroyed.

Over the past few days, army engineers have safely detonated 30 IEDs that had been planted by takfiris to target security forces.

The raids also led to the discovery and destruction of 20 marijuana and poppy farms used for drug production in Central Sinai, as well as a number of underground border tunnels in North Sinai's Rafah city.

The navy seized a suspect ship in the Red Sea that was carrying 1,350kg of heroin.

The Egyptian army has stressed that border security forces organised more than 585 patrols on highways and desert roads in the past few days.
The Times of Israel adds:
Security forces also found and destroyed a training camp which included a shooting range, an obstacle course and an underground conference room, the military statement said.

Jaysh al-Islam militants call US-led strikes on Syria ‘farce’
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Jaish al-Islam
...Liwa al-Islam (Brigade of Islam) was established by Zahran Alloush, the son of Saudi-based religious scholar Abdullah Mohammed Alloush, after Syrian authorities released him from prison in mid-2011 where he had been serving time for his Salafist activism. In Sptember 2013 Saudi Arabia engineered Liwa al-Islam's merger with fifty other more or less Salafist groups as a counterweight to al-Nusra, which the Learned Elders of Islam considered was growing too powereful...
murderous Moslems’ leader Muhammad Allush reportedly expressed indignation of the US-led strikes via Twitter and called it a "farce."

The strikes were launched in response to the alleged chemical attack in Douma, a city located in the Eastern Ghouta anclave near Damascus, which the West blamed on the Syrian government even prior to the launch of a probe into the incident.

Damascus has strongly rejected the allegations of the use of chemical weapons and emphasized that the claims are being used in order to justify aggression against the government.

According to the Syrian General Staff, the country’s air defense systems were able to shoot down most of the missiles launched by the US, the UK and La Belle France. Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Trampler of Homs...
stated that the attack had only united the Syrian people in their fight against terrorism even more.

Earlier, Jaish al-Islam gunnies started leaving Douma under the framework of an evacuation agreement were forced to give up their weapons. Militants have also agreed to give up their heavy weapons.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
PA official: Egypt asked Hamas to stop Gaza protests
[IsraelTimes] Envoys from Cairo said to worry about potential for 'serious deterioration'; official in the Strip vows to continue demonstrations

Senior Egyptian intelligence officials who visited the Gazoo Strip on Saturday reportedly asked Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", leaders to halt the weekly mass demonstrations along the border with Israel.

The Egyptian delegation, headed by Sameh Nabil, who is in charge of the Paleostinian portfolio in Egypt’s General Intelligence Service, entered the Gazoo Strip through the Erez border crossing with Israel.

A Paleostinian Authority official in Ramallah said that the Egyptian officials demanded during their talks with Hamas leaders in Gazoo City that the terror group end the protests, which began three weeks ago as part of the so-called March of Return.

"The Egyptians are worried that the confrontations along the border between the Gazoo Strip and Israel could lead to a serious deterioration," the official told The Times of Israel. "The Egyptians are also concerned that the festivities could move to the border between the Gazoo Strip and Egypt."

Egyptian intelligence officials who were trying to mediate between Hamas and Fatah left the Gazoo Strip shortly after last month’s attempt on the life of Rami Hamdallah, the PA prime minister. Hamdallah’s convoy was targeted by a roadside kaboom as he was on his way to inaugurate a water waste plant in the northern Gazoo Strip. Neither he nor PA General Intelligence Chief Majed Faraj, who was also in the convoy, were hurt.

Hamas officials refused to comment on the claim that the Egyptians were pressuring them to halt the "March of Return."

However,
there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly...
shortly after the Egyptian officials left the Gazoo Strip, Khalil al-Hayya, a senior Hamas official, announced that the mass demonstrations would continue "until they achieve their real goals."

The protests, Hayya said, will continue until May 15, when Paleostinians mark Nakba Day, the Gregorian calendar date for Israel Independence Day.

"Our Paleostinian people will continue the marches and the intifada against the Israeli occupation until they achieve the right of return," Hayya said, referring to the demand that Israel allow Paleostinian refugees and their descendants to return to their former homes inside Israel.
That will never happen, because it would be suicide for Israel to do so.

Egypt court upholds life sentence for Brotherhood chief Badie in 'Rabaa operations room' case
[AlAhram] Egypt’s Court of Cassation issued a final sentence on Saturday of life in prison for Moslem Brüderbund chief Mohammed Badie and 17 others in the ’Rabaa operations room’ trial, where they were convicted of coordinating attacks on police and churches in 2013.

The court rejected an appeal of Badie and other defendants against verdicts issued agaisnt them in May 2017. Badie and two others were sentenced to life in prison back then, 15 other defendants were sentenced to five years and 21 others were acquitted.

In April 2015, Badie, along with 13 other defendants, was initially sentenced to death and 37 others were sentenced to life in prison for setting up an "operations room" at a protest camp supporting ousted president Mohammed Morsi in Cairo's Rabaa al-Adaweya in the summer of 2013.

The defendants were tried for directing Brotherhood supporters across the country to "defy the state and spread chaos" after the dispersal of the Rabaa protest camp by police in mid-August 2013.

Saturday's court verdict is final and cannot be appealed.

Badie, 71, was incarcerated
Please don't kill me!
in August 2013, and has since received several life sentences in a number of different cases.

FEDS: Investigation of Michael Cohen Has Nothing To Do With Trump
[BigLeaguePolitics] Federal authorities say that the investigation of President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen is not even related to President Trump.

This latest development casts further doubt on the entire "Obamagate"-related investigations into Trump’s team, making it clear that these investigations are more about bullying Trump’s inner circle and not really about law and order.

Federal prosecutors admitted as much.

USA Today reports: 'Federal prosecutors on Friday said President Trump’s personal attorney Michael Cohen is the target of a "months-long" criminal investigation that centers on Cohen’s own business dealings rather than his legal work on Trump’s behalf. The information gathered so far in the probe suggests "that the overwhelming majority of evidence" FBI agents seized from Cohen in a raid this week will not contain privileged attorney-client communications between Cohen and Trump but will relate to Cohen’s "personal business dealings and finances," federal lawyers said in court documents. The Friday afternoon filing came in response to Cohen’s emergency request to block the Justice Department from using materials the FBI seized earlier this week in an extraordinary raid of his offices, home and hotel room.'
Aside of decimating his support structure at every possible level, absolutely nothing.

Holder rips ‘rampant corruption' in Trump Cabinet
[The Hill] Former Attorney General Eric Holder slammed the Trump administration at an event for Democrats in Ohio on Friday, accusing the president and Republicans of allowing "rampant corruption" to go on in the Cabinet.

In remarks to Democrats Friday night that were first reported by the Washington Examiner, the Obama-era attorney general accused congressional Republicans of abandoning their duties of oversight over the executive branch.

"There is rampant corruption within the Trump Cabinet, but a Congress full of Republicans is simply unwilling to conduct oversight or to hold them accountable," Holder said.

Holder didn't go into further detail about his criticism, but his remarks come amid a series of damaging news reports surrounding EPA administrator Scott Pruitt, who is accused of living for months in a condo owned in part by the wife of a top energy lobbyist and directing staff to approve raises for longtime aides even after the White House rejected the pay increases.

Pruitt is only the latest Cabinet member to be accused of questionable financial decisions.

In his remarks, Holder also attacked the Trump administration's decision to exit the Paris climate accord, as well as the degradation of NATO alliances.

"Decades old ‐ and effective ‐ alliances have been questioned. The effectiveness of the North Atlantic compact that has ensured peace ‐ and prosperity ‐ for over seventy years, and after the bloodiest century in the history of mankind, is now doubted," he said.
