Kenya to close refugee camps, displacing 600,000 people
I'm waiting to hear Kenya's response when Obama tut-tuts this smart decision
Kenya announced plans to close all refugee camps -- a move that will displace more than 600,000 people -- citing "very heavy" economic, security and environmental issues.

The closures, which were lambasted by human rights groups,
...none of whom are actually helping with the refugee situation...
mean Somali asylum seekers would be forced to return to the situation they fled.

The government plans include closing Dadaab, the largest refugee camp in the world with 300,00 people along the Kenya-Somalia border.

Karanja Kibicho, Kenya's secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, said Friday his country's leaders are concerned about the influence of the terrorist group Al-Shabaab.
because, reality bites
"Kenya, having taken into consideration its national security interests, has decided that hosting of refugees has come to an end," he said.

It's not clear when the camps will close.

Human rights groups angrily responded to the decision.
Of course, in a press release from a Paris or London five-star restaurant

Hildebeest Super PAC Creates Paid Troll Army to Counter Online Attacks
[LA Times] When the Internet’s legions of Hillary hecklers steal away to chat rooms and Facebook pages to vent grievances about Clinton, express revulsion toward Clinton and launch attacks on Clinton, they now may find themselves in a surprising place ‐ confronted by a multimillion dollar super PAC working with Clinton.

Hillary Clinton's well-heeled backers have opened a new frontier in digital campaigning, one that seems to have been inspired by some of the Internet's worst instincts. Correct the Record, a super PAC coordinating with Clinton's campaign, is spending some $1 million to find and confront social media users who post unflattering messages about the Democratic front-runner.

In effect, the effort aims to spend a large sum of money to increase the amount of trolling that already exists online.

The plan comes as Clinton operatives grapple with the reality that her supporters just aren’t as engaged and aggressive online as are her detractors inside and outside the Democratic Party.

The lack of engagement is one of Clinton’s bigger tactical vulnerabilities, particularly when compared with rivals like Donald Trump, whose viral social media attacks are legion, and Sen. Bernie Sanders, who is backed by a passionate army of media-savvy millennials.

Some experts on digital campaigns think the idea of launching a paid army of "former reporters, bloggers, public affairs specialists, designers" and others to produce online counterattacks is unlikely to prove successful. Others, however, say Clinton has little choice but to try, given the ubiquity of online assaults and the difficulty of squelching even provably untrue narratives once they have taken hold.

AG Lynch says she cannot make 'prediction' about timing of Clinton probe
[Fox] Attorney General Loretta Lynch said Monday she could not make any "prediction" about the timing of a final resolution to the Hillary Clinton email investigation.

Asked at a news conference if the clock had run out against taking action against Clinton in light of the advanced election schedule, Lynch replied, "We do all our reviews, investigations of any matter carefully, thoroughly, and efficiently. And when the matter is ready for resolution, a recommendation will be made and we'll come to a decision at that time and I'm not able to give you a prediction. Sorry."

Lynch had called the press briefing to discuss a DOJ suit against North Carolina ‐ which the department brought quickly, in less than two months - over its transgender bathroom law. The state is also suing the DOJ over the issue.

Two terror trials commence
Trial of terror plotters linked to Paris attacker kicks off in Belgium

[IsraelTimes] Under heavy security, a trial in Belgium of a suspected extremist cell linked to the now-dead ringleader of last year’s lethal attacks in Paris has begun.

Sixteen defendants, including nine who are still at large, are accused of involvement in what Belgian authorities say was a terrorist plot being mounted in the eastern city of Verviers. Lawyers for some of the accused contend their clients did nothing illegal.

Marouane El Bali, the trial’s star defendant, was “bringing one or two pair of sneakers to his friend” when arrested, attorney Didier De Quevy says. “He’s is not at all a radical.”

Belgian police stormed the suspected plotters’ hideout Jan. 15, 2015, killing two men and arresting El Bali, 26, who surrendered. Police were fired on at least 40 times, and reported finding three Kalashnikov-style assault rifles, four handguns, chemicals to make explosives and 23 items of police uniforms inside the Verviers residence.

According to Belgian authorities, the suspects were being directed from afar by Abdelhamid Abaaoud, who was hunted down by French police and killed days after the November 13 attacks that killed 130 victims in Paris. Like El Bali and the two men killed in the Verviers raid, Soufiane Amghar and Khalid Ben Larbi, Abaaoud was from the multiethnic Molenbeek neighborhood of Brussels.

In a summary of the Verviers investigation read by presiding judge Pierre Hendrickx, Belgian officials say they linked Abaaoud to the plot by tracing a Greek cellphone being used by someone calling himself “Omar.”

German Court Jails German-Moroccan for al-Nusra Link

[AnNahar] A German court on Monday sentenced Soufiane K. ,a 29-year-old German-Moroccan man to five years in jail over his membership in the al-Qaida-linked al-Nusra Front. He had traveled in 2013 with his wife and four children to Syria where he underwent weapons training with al-Nusra Front, the court in Frankfurt said in a statement. He also helped distribute humanitarian supplies for the jihadist group, added the court.

Soufiane K. was arrested in October 2014, several months after his return to Germany, and has since been in police custody.

The court said it based its ruling on testimony by Andrea B., who had traveled with her two children to Syria in January 2014 to become the second wife of the defendant. The witness came into contact with Soufiane K.'s wife through Facebook in December 2013, and was convinced that "she should travel to Syria to live alongside mujahideens fighting Syrian government troops," the court said. But she returned to Germany along with her children in May 2014, because "it was too dangerous there for her and her children," the court said.

Germany's domestic spy agency estimates that around 750 Islamists have left the country to join jihadists in Syria and Iraq, and that one in three has returned, fueling fears about the threat they pose on German soil.

Afghanistan
Special Forces In Afghanistan Say There's No Clear US Strategy
[Daily Caller] A recently released Pentagon report shows Special Forces operators in Afghanistan often felt there was no clear strategy or clarity behind their orders.

The 700+ page report is the result of an investigation into last year's accidental attack on a Doctors Without Borders (MSF) hospital in the Afghan city of Kunduz. Included in the hundreds of pages are several interviews with U.S. Army Special Forces personnel who expressed serious concerns over a lack of direction in the fight against the Taliban and al-Qaida in Afghanistan.

"How far do you want to go?" is not a proper response to "How far do you want us to go?'" said one operator in the report.

The report shows that many Special Forces operators were not clear on the rules of engagement or how far they were allowed to go when accompanying their local Afghan National Army (ANA) trainees. One of the primary missions of the Special Forces is to embed with local partners and train them in various aspects of warfare, ranging from small unit tactics to fire support requests. Special Forces operators have been working with the ANA as part of Operation Resolute Support, the NATO mission to "train, advise assist" in Afghanistan, as opposed to engage in a direct combat role.

#6  Obama's strategy in Afghanistan ended in 2009...it was worst case - a political strategy focused only on a number and the optics that he was perceived to act like he cared about the war that mattered... Rush just solved NC bathroom dispute with Feds
[Daily Caller] To counter the Obama Department of Justice suit regarding transgender bathrooms in North Carolina, Rush Limbaugh suggested that the state should no longer identify as North Carolina for the duration of the suit.

Monday on "The Rush Limbaugh Show," Limbaugh, noting that the DOJ gave the state of North Carolina three days to "throw that bill out," said that "If the DOJ gets their way, every business 15 employees or more, is gonna have to have unisex bathrooms and anybody can go into whatever bathroom they want depending how they want to identify or want to present that day."

"The solution here might be that the North Carolina governor could say that we don’t identify as North Carolina anymore, and therefore your lawsuit against us is irrelevant," Limbaugh suggested. "’We’re not North Carolina. We don’t identify that way, as long as your lawsuit [is in effect].'"

Whites Need Not Apply: BBC Advertises 'Black, Asian, Or Minority'- Only Positions
[Breitbart] A range of British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) television departments, programmes, and radio stations are currently offering highly desirable, paid internships, but white people are prohibited from applying.

Creative Access - an organisation, registered as a charity, which offers placements at "many of the UK's top media organisations" - has listed a number of BBC placements on its website, demanding applicants are only from "Black, Asian and non-white minority ethnic backgrounds".

The website's list of opportunities shows that all but four of the positions currently available are for jobs at the publicly-funded BBC, and Creative Access is funded by the British tax payer despite its charity status.

Bin Laden's Son Urges Muslims to Target Jewish, US, Western Interests
[Jerusalem Post] Hamza Bin Laden, son of former al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, is calling for the targeting of Jewish and Western interests and the building of an army to "liberate Jerusalem."

According to a new al-Qaida video discovered by the Jihad and Terrorism Threat Monitor of MEMRI (the Middle East Media Research Institute) and shared with The Jerusalem Post, Hamza praised the stabbing attacks by Palestinians against Israelis and called on Muslims from around the world to join the fight to defend Jerusalem, urging them to "participate in the intifada" of their Palestinian brethren by "killing the Jews and attacking their interests everywhere."

Convicted terrorist who ‘beheaded heretic’ on the loose in Belgium
[POLITICO.EU] A convicted terrorist who was caught on tape admitting he beheaded "a heretic" is still on the streets, according to Belgian newspaper reports on Monday.

Iliass Khayari, 25, was convicted for being part of a terrorist group in Brussels last week. He was given a five-year prison sentence -- half of it suspended -- but the judge said Khayari did not have to go to jail immediately and could go free until the appeals process is completed, according to Het Laatste Nieuws. That process could take months.

After his conviction, the newspaper revealed details of a bugged phone call in which Khayari said he beheaded a man for being "a heretic" while fighting for Islamic State

in Syria.

"He is an enemy of Allah. That’s why I beheaded him," Khayari is alleged to have said.

Despite being urged by the federal prosecutor to arrest Khayari over the confession in the call, the judge refused.

An investigation into the alleged beheading has been opened.

Saudi Police Shoot Dead Suspected Jihadist
[AnNahar] Saudi security forces on Monday rubbed out a suspected jihadist in the western province of Taif a day after a policeman was killed in a shootout, the interior ministry said.

The gunman was killed after refusing to surrender to security forces hunting him over his suspected involvement in an attempt to infiltrate a cop shoppe parking area in the province on Sunday, a ministry statement said.

It identified him as Mohammed al-Maliki, adding that he had threatened in a video message to attack police and had been involved in a previous attack in which a policeman was killed.

European artists celebrate Islamist terrorism
A Copenhagen art exhibit planning to portray two of the Brussels suicide bombers and one of the Paris Bataclan attackers as "martyrs" has been reported to police for encouraging terrorism.

A Danish group of artists plans to include brothers Ibrahim and Khalid el-Bakraoui, who detonated bombs in the deadly Brussels attacks on 22 March, and Foued Mohamed-Aggad, who blew himself up at Paris music venue Bataclan on 14 November. Images of the "martyrs", replicas of their belongings and plaques to explain who they are will adorn the artistic exhibition, which will be on display from May 26 until June 10 in a former abattoir in Copenhagen's trendy Meatpacking District.
An interesting choice of venue

Iran claims to successfully test missile that can reach Israel
[IsraelTimes] Highly accurate ballistic missile has a range of 2,000 kilometers, was launched two weeks ago, Tehran general says

A senior Iranian general on Monday announced that the country’s armed forces successfully tested a precision-guided, medium-range ballistic missile two weeks ago, the state-run Tasnim agency reported.

"We test-fired a missile with a range of 2,000 kilometers and a margin of error of eight meters," Brigadier General Ali Abdollahi was quoted as saying at a Tehran science conference.

The eight-meter margin means the "missile enjoys zero error," he told conference participants.

The general went on to say that 10 percent of Iran’s defense budget has been allocated to "research projects aimed at strengthening defense power," the report said.

Under a nuclear deal signed last year between world powers and Iran, ballistic missile tests are not forbidden outright, but are "not consistent" with a United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
Security Council resolution from July 2015, US officials say.

According to the UN decision, "Iran is called upon not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using such ballistic missile technology," until October 2023.

That has not stopped Iran from carrying out a number of tests of ballistic missile technology since the nuclear deal was adopted on October 18, 2015.

In November, Iran launched a missile with a range of 1,930 kilometers (1,200 miles) from a site near the Gulf of Oman, US officials said at the time.

In March, Iran test-fired two more ballistic missiles, which an Iranian news agency said had the phrase "Israel must be wiped out" written on them in Hebrew. An Iranian commander said the test was designed to demonstrate to Israel that it is within Iranian missile range.

That launch sparked international fury as it appeared to flout the agreements made in the Iranian nuclear deal.

The US, La Belle France, Britannia and Germany decried the launch as "destabilizing and provocative" and called for United Nations action. A UN committee later determined Iran’s ballistic tests were in violation of a Security Council resolution prohibiting Tehran from launching ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons.

Last month, American and Russian officials said Iran test-fired an advanced rocket system in the Dasht-e Kavir desert, in what some considered a cover for intercontinental ballistic missile research.

Israel has pointed to ballistic missile tests as proof Tehran plans to continue pursuing an atomic weapon, despite the landmark agreement aimed at curbing its nuclear program.

In response to the missile tests, Washington imposed fresh sanctions over Iran’s missile program in January, almost immediately after lifting separate sanctions related to Iran’s nuclear program under the nuclear deal.

Iran maintains that because it cannot develop nuclear weapons under the deal, none of its missiles is capable of carrying a nuclear weapon.

US announces $50 million aid program for Gaza Strip
Is President Obama wielding his phone and his pen again without reference to the expressed will of Congress?
[IsraelTimes] Five-year plan aims to provide basic humanitarian assistance and create jobs in enclave where unemployment is 40%

The United States has announced a $50 million aid program for the Gazoo Strip.

US officials said Monday that the money will be used over five years to provide basic humanitarian assistance and create jobs. The money will be distributed by the US Agency for International Development in partnership with Catholic Relief Services.

The US Consul General in Jerusalem, Donald A. Blume, said the effort is meant to address "the dire needs that are obvious in Gazoo."

Gazoo’s economy has sharply declined since the Islamist Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, organization took over the coastal territory nearly a decade ago. Unemployment there is estimated to be over 40 percent.

The US, like Israel, views Hamas as a terrorist organization, and has no official relations with the group.

Palestinian charged with suspected arms trafficking
[Ynet] An indictment has been filed against Husam Ashab, 19, from Qalandia, for arms trafficking. There has been at least one instance in which arms the suspect sold were used in a terror attack.

One of the weapons he allegedly sold was used in a shooting attack against passangers on a bus in Ramot Junction, and then in another shooting attack against police at a light rail stop.

Ashab himself shot at security forces as they were demolishing the house of a known terrorist in Qalandia Refugee Camp.

Sixty-seven people referred to trial over assassination of Egypt's prosecutor general
[AlArab] Egypt's Prosecutor General Nabil Sadek referred Sunday 67 people to the criminal court over the liquidation of top prosecutor Hisham Barakat in June 2015.

Barakat, 64, was killed when a boom-mobile struck his convoy in the upscale east Cairo district of Heliopolis last year.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Prosecutor General's office said the defendants were members of the outlawed Moslem Brüderbund who "conspired" with Death Eaters of the Gazoo-based Islamist Paleostinian group Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, to target a number of leading Egyptian officials in order to "sow chaos in the country."

In March, the Egyptian ministry of interior said14 members of the Moslem Brüderbund participated directly in the plan to murder Barakat.

Hamas denied any involvement in the liquidation.

The Moslem Brüderbund is designated as a terrorist organization in Egypt by the government.

[SPECTATOR.ORG] President Obama’s foreign policy has always been an indecipherable concatenation of unrestrained urges. He’s shunned our closest allies, Britannia and Israel, embraced our adversaries and enemies such as Russia, Iran, and China, and acted out of fits of pique when challenged at home or abroad.

When North Korea tests a missile or a nuclear weapon, when Russia begins reconquering former Soviet states, and when Russia and Iran combine to ensure the survival of Syria’s terrorist regime, there’s no effort to brace our allies to strengthen them. It’s only when we have no national security interest in acting will Obama join, as he did when he, with La Belle France and Britannia, made an ad hoc NATO

fighters in western Iraq, including a leader who appeared in ISIS execution videos and was considered an heir apparent to terror criminal mastermind Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the Pentagon announced Monday.

The terror leader, Abu Wahib, was known as the "Emir of Anbar Province." The strike unfolded near al-Rutba, not far from the Syrian border, Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook told news hounds.

Wahib left an Anbar university, where he was studying computer science, to fight U.S. forces entering Iraq, The New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
reported. He beat feet from an Iraq-run prison in Tikrit in 2012.

Cook said Wahib's death marks another serious blow to ISIS leadership and would "further degrade its ability to operate, especially in Anbar Province."

Iraq had falsely reported Wahib's death in the past, but Cook said, "we're confident that this was a successful strike and I'll leave it at that."

The Most Uninteresting Woman in the World
[TOWNHALL] Unlike the fictional gentleman in the beer commercials who has people hanging on his every word and reveling in his exploits, with Hillary Clinton, the Democrat front runner for the party’s nomination for president in 2016, Americans are simply just bored to death. Worn out by the drama and the scandals that have followed her throughout her entire private and public life.

As the old saying goes, “where there’s smoke there’s always fire”, and in the case of Hillary Clinton it is more true now than it ever has been, seemingly with new revelations about her e-mails and corruption in the Clinton Foundation coming out almost every day.

But also like the Everyready Bunny that just keeps “going and going”, Hillary Clinton is determined to continue her life-long quest for the White House amidst what seems to be more and more scandal. And while any ‘normal’ person might devote their efforts towards clearing their name and restoring their reputation, apparently there’s no shame in Hillary. Just the ultra-ambition of winning the White House at all costs.

Afghanistan
Hamidullah was aware of Rabbani assassination secrets: Jamiat-e-Islami
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Jamiat-e-Islami party of Afghanistan has said Hamidullah was keeping more secrets regarding the assassination of the former Afghan President and high peace council chief Burhanuddin Rabbani.

Hamidullah was among the six terrorists executed by the Afghan government for terror offences on Sunday.

However, Jamiat-e-Islami has said Hamidullah was executed without informing the family and party before executing him, emphasizing that he had a key role in assassinating the former president.

According to a statement by Jamiat-e-Islami, Hamidullah brought the suicide bomber from Kandahar to Kabul where he was kept in a government guesthouse before he was sent to the residence of Rabbani to execute the attack.

The statement further added that the horrific attack on Rabbani required and still requires step by step and thorough investigation.

The party called on the government of national unity to launch a thorough investigation to find out regarding the ‘known and hidden’ perpetrators of the attack.

The statement also added that the government should launch an investigation regarding the target killings of Jamiat-e-Islami leaders who were assassinated in the past 15 years.

The government sources unveiled the details of the executed terrorists late on Sunday, hours after they were hanged for terror offences.

Hamidullah was identified as a Taliban group member who was involved in plotting an attack on former president and high peace council chief Burhanuddin Rabbani.

Rabbani was assassinated by a suicide bomber who had disguised himself as a peace messenger, representing the Taliban group.

The attack was carried out inside his residence in capital Kabul on the evening of 20th September 2011.

19 Military Operations Underway In 15 Provinces
A spokesman for the Ministry of Defense (MoD), Dawlat Waziri, said on Monday that 19 military operations are currently ongoing in 15 provinces in the country.

Speaking at a press conference, Waziri said that the military operations are being conducted in provinces including Wardak, Helmand, Kunduz, Kandahar and Kunar.

"In the past two months, after we launched Shafaq military operation, hundreds [of insurgents] were killed and security forces seized a large amount of weapons, vehicles and other equipment belonging to insurgents.

Dozens of insurgents' commanders are among the dead and we are carrying out night raids to clear the insurgents," Waziri said.

He called on the people to support security forces, especially regarding their night raids, which are proving highly effective. He added that military operations have not yet launched in some parts of the north and also in Helmand.

He said however that the air force and intelligence agencies have improved substantially this past year and that between 150 and 180 air operations are carried out on a daily basis.

In the meantime, Sediq Sediqqi, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior (MoI), on Monday acknowledged the security threats in Helmand are higher than in other provinces.

In response to a question by reporters over the increasing of US troops' combat role against insurgents, he said that Afghanistan needs the cooperation of foreign troops in combat against al-Qaeda, Haqqani, Taliban and other insurgent groups.

This comes as the Taliban's insurgency in Helmand is on the rise – but military leadership still appears reluctant to implement an important order issued by President Ashraf Ghani two weeks ago giving a free hand to security forces to fight militants from a harsher standpoint.

Two weeks ago, Ghani said during an address in parliament, that the military leadership must carry out large scale offensives against militants raging war in the province.

However, the order has still not been implemented. The reasons are unclear but this is putting a burden on the shoulders of overstretched Afghan forces, said critics.

Critics also believe the delay in implementing the order is enabling the Taliban to expand its attacks on embattled Afghan security forces who are fighting the Taliban on multiple fronts and in some key districts in the province. This in turn is threatening the security of the provincial capital, Lashkargah city.

Pro Assad forces make new gains near Damascus
DAMASCUS – Taking advantage of the ongoing internal rifts among rebel groups, pro-regime forces were able to control several locations in the town of Zibdeen in the Eastern Ghouta near Syria’s capital Damascus, local sources reported on Monday.

Speaking to ARA News in Damascus, media activist Abdul Ghani al-Amer said that the pro-regime forces launched a major offensive on positions of the Syrian rebel groups on the outskirts of the town of Zibdeen.

Fierce clashes erupted between the two sides and lasted for several hours, before the regime forces took over key areas near Zabdeen.

“A number of rebel fighters have been killed in the regime-led operations in the Eastern Ghouta,” the source reported.

The clashes were coupled with artillery shelling by the regime’s army forces on the rebels’ headquarters in the region.

“Pro-Assad forces try to exploit the ongoing fighting between the rebel factions of the Jaish al-Islam on the one hand and the al-Rahman Corps and Jaish al-Fustat on the other hand,” a spokesman for the Jaish al-Islam told ARA News, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Syrian opposition activists blamed the Jaish al-Islam and al-Rahman Corps for the fall of some locations to the regime’s army, warning if the internal conflict continued among Syrian rebels, the regime’s forces will most likely seize control of the remaining areas in the Eastern Ghouta within days.

In the meantime, the pro-regime warplanes conducted several raids on the town of Beit Jann in Damascus suburbs, and threw scrap of papers over the towns of Abbasid and Khan al-Sheeh in the western Ghouta in a bid to incite opposition fighters to surrender.

35 Taliban militants killed as Dostum leads operations in Jawzjan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] At least 35 murderous Moslems were killed and 15 others were maimed in the latest clearance operations led by Vice President General Abdul Rashid Dostum
...ethnic Uzbek warlord who distinguished himself fighting the Soviets and the Taliban. The story that he had a bad guy run over with a tank is an exaggeration. It was an armored personnel carrier...
The Office of the First Vice President in a statement said the main highway connecting Sherbarghan with Sar-e-Pul province was opened during the operations.

The statement further added that 40 villages were cleared as a result of the operations which are lying along the highway.

The operations were launched early on Monday morning with the Afghan Air Force providing close-air support to the Afghan cops.

The highway was considered as one of the volatile highways in the north ahead of the operations, the statement said, adding that the murderous Moslem groups and criminal gangs were involved in destructive activities, robberies and kidnappings on the highway.

Vice President Dostum said security posts will be established in the highway similar as the other regions cleared of the murderous Moslems in a bid to prevent the return of bully boyz in the area.

He said the Taliban group has suffered heavy loss and has been defeated in the battle ground as the Afghan forces continue to chase the remaining murderous Moslems hiding in their safe havens.

The statement by the office of the Vice President said the local residents did not suffer any casualties during the operations.

Europe
Slovak customs officers shoot and injure Syrian migrant woman
Slovak customs officers injured a Syrian woman on May 9 when they shot at a car carrying migrants from Hungary into Slovakia, authorities said. This may be the first reported incident inside the continent's passport-free Schengen zone where migrants have been shot at.
I'm not sure I know the Slovak words for "Stop or I'll shoot"...
The officers stopped four passenger cars entering Slovakia from Hungary in the early hours of May 9, the Financial Administration that runs the customs service said in a press release. Three cars complied with an order to stop but the fourth tried to escape and endangered three officers, it said.

"The officers fired warning shots and when the car did not stop they fired at the car, injuring one person," it said, without further details.
So the person caught a bullet for being stupid...
A hospital in Dunajska Streda, southern Slovakia, said the injured person was a Syrian woman aged about 26 and that she was in a stable condition after undergoing surgery to remove a bullet from her back.

The cars and the passengers were handed over to the border police, the Financial Administration said.

Slovakia has so far seen only a trickle of migrants trying to cross its territory to reach Germany, the favoured destination for people fleeing conflicts and poverty in the Middle East and beyond. But the government fears tighter border controls by neighbouring Austria could prompt more migrants to use Slovakia as a stepping stone from Hungary as they head west.

Iraq
ISIS executes 8 in Mosul
DUHOK – Extremists of the Islamic State (ISIS) executed a number of civilians in the city of Mosul in Iraq’s northwestern Nineveh province on charges of spying for anti-ISIS forces, local sources reported on Monday.

ISIS has brutally killed eight civilians in the camp of Ghazlani in Mosul on charges of collaborating with the Kurdish Peshmerga forces, according to local sources.

Speaking to ARA News in Mosul, media activist Dirar al-Omar said that the ISIS Sharia Court in the northern city of Mosul sentenced to death eight civilians who have been arrested a few days earlier on charges of spying for the Kurdish Peshmerga forces.

An ISIS Sharia member read the verdict against the victims, arguing they were cooperating with ‘enemies of Allah and the Caliphate’ [in reference to Peshmerga] against ‘Muslims’, according to eyewitnesses, who spoke to ARA News on condition of anonymity.

Several ISIS masked militants then shot the eight men dead and threw their corpses in the ditch west of the city [Mosul], as confirmed by several witnesses.

Al-Omar pointed out that the eight victims were from Mosul’s residents; “they were civilians who were neither members of ISIS nor of Iraqi security forces in the past.”

On Sunday, the radical group arrested and executed its own member Junaid Yassin Ali Aiwaz on charges of ‘high treason’ for trying to escape the ISIS-held city of Mosul. Aiwaz was arrested by the ISIS-led Hisba police last week. he was then referred to the Sharia Court which convicted him of apostasy and ordered his execution, according to local activists.

ISIS has been recently cracking down on Mosul’s people, arresting dozens of civilians and executing many on various charges, including spying for the US-led coalition forces, Peshmerga and Iraqi army.

The Grand Turk
Turkey readmitted 386 irregular migrants since March 20
In line with a March deal with the European Union, almost 400 illegal immigrants have been readmitted to Turkey so far, the spokesperson for the Turkish Foreign Ministry has announced, noting that 125 Syrians have been resettled in five EU countries under the same deal.

“Within the framework of the agreement with the EU, 386 irregular migrants have been readmitted to Turkey from five Greek islands. Of those, 14 of them were Syrians and a vast majority was other countries’ citizens,” Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tanju Bilgiç told reporters at a press conference on May 9.

“Simultaneously with the readmission, the resettlement of Syrians has also started. Within this framework, 125 Syrians have been sent to Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden and Lithuania,” Bilgiç added.

Under the controversial pact between the EU and Turkey to stop refugees crossing by boat to Greece, Turkey agreed to take back migrants who arrived in Greece after March 20. In return, Europe pledged that for every Syrian deported, it would accept one refugee from Turkey’s vast camps, a move it hopes will discourage people from taking the highly risky journey across the Aegean Sea.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Prosecutors to test stupid novel legal theory in trial of officer charged in Freddie Gray case
[BALTIMORESUN] Prosecutors are expected to test a novel legal theory this week in the trial of a police officer charged in the arrest and death of Freddie Gray -- that the officer didn't have the authority to detain him and therefore committed an assault by putting him in handcuffs.

The allegation could have widespread implications for policing in Baltimore and Maryland. Hundreds of detainees in the city are released every year after being tossed in the slammer
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
without being charged.

Officer Edward M. Nero's defense team argues that police shouldn't be second-guessed -- and face criminal charges -- when they carry out their duties in good faith, while prosecutors say officers should face consequences when their actions turn out to be wrong, and the consequences are so catastrophic.

By taking a chance with this kind of case, legal experts said, Baltimore's State's Attorney Marilyn J. Mosby must believe she is correctly interpreting the law and has the political will.

"Is it a gutsy theory? Yes. Do I think most prosecutors would have brought charges on this theory? Probably not," said Paul Butler, a former federal prosecutor who is now a Georgetown University law professor. "But these are extraordinary times, and Baltimore is a city where a lot of the usual political dynamics don't apply."
Andrew Branca at Legal Insurrection has been covering this case extensively and with superb attention to legal details and theory. As this trial comes up it's well worth it to head over to LI.

Caribbean-Latin America
Catastrophe Is the New Normal for Venezuelans
[BLOOMBERG] Making sense of the rolling political and economic disaster in Venezuela isn't easy. But the bigger mystery may be why the whole country isn't flooding into the streets to demand the end of the social revolution that's left one of Latin America's most resource-rich nations in a shambles.

Start with the riddle of why the country with the world's largest crude oil reserves has suffered constant power outages. (Spoiler: instead of using oil to generate electricity, the government has relied on hydropower while failing to plan for this year's punishing drought; it neglected to build new power plants or invest in its crumbling infrastructure.)

And how has President Nicolas Maduro responded to the energy crisis? He cut the work week for public servants to two days. Along with the furlough, Maduro -- who also is presiding over the world's worst recession -- ordered a 30 percent hike in the national minimum wage. Just how much the crowd-pleasing bonus will matter in a country with high triple-digit inflation, where consumers queueing for hours can't find eight out of 10 staple goods at grocery stores, is debatable. Not to mention that Venezuela is literally running out of bank notes.

The fact is, the Maduro government may have lost its way, but it's still got an iron grip on this nation of 30 million people. And that residual clout, coupled with disarray among the president's political foes, has given the regime the benefit of public doubt even in desperate times.

Yes, barely five months ago, a voter rebellion handed Maduro's long-underperforming political opposition control of the legislature, where the United Socialist Party had ruled since the late Hugo Chavez rose to power in 1999, ushering in his version of "21st Century Socialism."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Dead Iranian Soldiers Spur Conflicting Stances in Iran
London- For the second day in a row, Iranian surging reactions continued after an Iranian official confirmation that over 34 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) members were killed in the Syrian village of Khan Touman located south of Aleppo.

Other Iranian sources estimate that losses exceed all those that officials have announced.

Sources also circulated battlefield information on clashes in south Aleppo, saying the IRGC and Syrian regime forces are making preparations for a comeback campaign in Khan Touman, after they had lost the village to al-Nusra Front.

Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs in Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian previously criticized the Khan Touman operation, considering it a violation to the implemented ceasefire.

The Tehran administration, on the other hand, made no comments regarding the incessant pounding Aleppo was subjected to over the past days. Abdollahian called on the international community to condemn the Khan Touman operation, in hopes of preserving political solutions.

The IRGC had published a statement urging Iranian people to remain calm and wait for reports, soon to be published on the Khan Touman operation.

Discretion on operation details was to keep them out of opponents’ reach, the IRGC further explained.

Broadcasting the statement took place while Ali Akbar Velayati, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s advisor, was delivering confidential notes sent by Khamenei to the head of the Syrian regime, Bashar Assad, in Damascus.

Iranian media outlets, contradictory to previous claims, confirmed a score of Iranian captives being taken in Syria. “Entekhab,” a reform inclined Iranian website, was the sole outlet confirming the death of 80 Iranian and Afghani soldiers.

Meanwhile, other media networks, relying on the IRGC statement, acknowledged only 34 Iranian soldiers either being dead or injured.

Quds Force commander Soleimani and the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Ali Shamkhani, were expected to give a speech on Iran’s defense strategy against current regional developments.

However, Soleimani made no public appearance in Tehran on Sunday, in light of rumors of his presence in Aleppo to run the Khan Touman battles.

ISNA, Iranian Students News Agency, mentioned that Shamkhani did in fact give his speech; however, behind closed doors. Iranian authorities kept the details to the speech confidential and refrained from making any comments on whether Soleimani was in Iran or not.

Shamkhani, on the death of Iranian soldiers in Aleppo, said that “what had happened in Khan Touman confirmed Iranian fears.” He reiterated previous official stances on the ceasefire giving the Syrian opposition the chance to rearrange their forces in the field.

When meeting with new parliamentary members, Shamkhani defended the notion on sending more Iranian military forces to Syria. His argument was pivoted on alleged regional security threats directed against Iran and how they should be confronted using all means, ISNA reported.

Iranian sources, two days ago, cited Soleimani heading for Aleppo, after a mass loss striking Iranian soldiers in Khan Touman on Thursday and Friday.

Same sources clarified that Soleimani is expected to oversee battlefield progress from operation rooms which bring together Russian forces, Syrian regime forces and Quds Force members. Tactics are being devoted as to eventually break through to Khan Touman
Update from Ynet at 6:30 a.m. ET:
Tehran lawmaker: Syrian rebels capture several Iranian soldiers

Up to half-a-dozen Iranian soldiers deployed in Syria have been captured by rebel forces, a senior Iranian lawmaker said on Monday, two days after the Iranian Revolutionary Guards confirmed losses in a battle near Aleppo.

Rebels seized the village of Khan Touman on Friday, some 15 km (9 miles) southwest of Aleppo, and killed several Iranian soldiers, dealing one of Tehran's biggest losses in Syria.

"According to the latest numbers, 13 defenders of the shrine were killed, 18 were wounded and five to six were captured," Esmail Kosari, chairman of the Iranian parliament's defence committee, was quoted as saying by the Mizan Online news agency.

It was the first time Iran had confirmed that any of its combatants had been taken prisoner in Syria. In December, Islamist rebels in Khan Touman said they had seized two Iranians but that was never confirmed by Tehran.

Aleppo fighting rages as U.S., Russia try to revive Syria truce
[REUTERS] Syrian government forces and their allies fought forces of Evil near Aleppo on Monday and jets conducted raids around a nearby town seized by Salafist tough guys, a monitoring group said, as Syria's military said a ceasefire in Aleppo would be extended by 48 hours starting on Tuesday.

A recent surge in bloodshed in Aleppo, Syria's largest city before the war, wrecked the 10-week-old, partial truce sponsored by Washington and Moscow that had allowed U.N.-brokered peace talks to convene in Geneva.

The United States and Russia, which support rival sides in the civil war, said they would work to revive the February "cessation of hostilities" agreement that reduced fighting in parts of the country for several weeks.

U.S. Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
said all parties had to press the sides they back to turn "words on a piece of paper" into actions to reinstate the truce.

Syria's military high command was quoted by state news agency SANA as saying the Aleppo ceasefire would be extended by 48 hours in the northern city beginning at 1 a.m. local time on Tuesday (6 p.m. ET on Monday).

A number of short-term local truces have been in place since April 29, first around Damascus and northern Latakia and then in Aleppo, but there has still been fighting between rebels and government forces.

The cessation of hostilities and local truces do not include Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
or al Qaeda's Syrian branch, the Nusra Front.

Asaad al-Zoubi, the chief negotiator for the main Syrian opposition at the Geneva talks, criticized the extended Aleppo truce, telling Al Jazeera television that such measures served only to allow thousands of reinforcing troops to be sent from Iran, which is supporting Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Leveler of Latakia...
Warplanes struck the town of Khan Touman, southwest of Aleppo, the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. Rebels also fought government forces east of Damascus, and jets hit the rebel-held towns of Maarat al-Numan and Idlib.

Russia and the United States said in a joint statement they would step up efforts to persuade the warring parties to abide by the ceasefire agreement.

Prime Suspect In Perween Murder Case May Reveal Big Names
[DAWN] The recent arrest of Raheem Swati, the prime suspect in the murder case of prominent social activist Perween Rahman, would lead to many other high-profile actors involved in land-grabbing across the city, said Anwar Rashid, the current director of the Orangi Pilot Project.

Swati, a former councillor belonging to the Awami National Party
founded by Abdul Wali Khan in 1986. Part of the PPP-led cabinet 2008-13. The ANP is considered left wing, advocating for secularism, democratic socialism, public sector government, and economic egalitarianism....
who has ties with the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain, was nabbed
You have the right to remain silent...
in Manghopir on Saturday for allegedly criminal masterminding the 2013 murder of Ms Rahman.

Speaking to Dawn on Sunday, Mr Rashid said: "Swati was just one of the pawns or mediators who brokered deals, in his own way, for the big names behind real estate business in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
. It seems that his confession would lead to many other real estate actors in the city."

Ms Rahman’s sister, Aquila Ismail, was unavailable for a comment on the recent development in the case. She had, however, expressed her suspicion about the earlier arrests made by the police. One of those apprehensions was related to the killing of a suspected assassin in a police encounter the very next day of her murder on March 13, 2013. At various forums held between 2014 and 2015, Ms Ismail, with counsel in the case, Advocate Faisal Siddiqi, said that "it seems the case is being intentionally weakened".

The case was eventually closed until a petition was filed in the Supreme Court in July 2013 by Human Rights Commission of Pakistain chairperson Zohra Yusuf. The petition was admitted in January 2014 and a joint investigation team (JIT) was formed on a directive of the apex court by the Sindh home department. The JIT met the police team investigating the murder as well as members of the OPP.

In 2015, two suspects -- Imran Swati and Pappu Kashmiri -- were arrested. "They gave us the name of Raheem Swati, who is the prime suspect in the case and affiliated with the Awami National Party in Karachi," said SSP-West Azfar Mahesar, who has been associated with the case for the past one and a half years.

He added that two more suspects -- Mohammad Ayaz and Amjad Afridi -- were yet to be arrested. They also belonged to the same political party, he said. He said a JIT would interrogate suspect Swati in the coming days.

In the meantime, another incident which garnered less attention was the passing away of Ms Rahman’s mother. Advocate Siddiqi said that her mother passed away two weeks back at her home.

Since the murder of Ms Rahman, who worked on mapping land and water supplies and low-cost housing plans in Orangi Town, her family and friends keep a low profile until they gather for a programme or an event in the city in her honour or to ask questions from the authorities.

Anwar Rashid is one such person who is holding on despite receiving various threats to stay "off the radar".

Arabia
Yemen’s Mukalla Airport Reopens with after Qaeda Withdrawal
The airport has reopened at the Yemeni coastal city of Mukalla which was recaptured by government and Emirati soldiers in April after a year-long occupation by al Qaeda, local officials said.

The first flight in on Sunday was a plane carrying relief supplies from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the officials said. The UAE claimed the consignment was carrying 20 tons of medicines and medical accessories from the UAE Red Moon Shaped Thingy Crescent.

The southeastern town's Riyan airport halted regular services a year ago after al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) took over the town and made it the center of a rich mini-state along the Arabian Sea coastline.

Around 2,000 Yemeni and Emirati troops advanced into Mukalla in the last week of April, taking control of its maritime port and airport. Al Qaeda alleged it withdrew to save the city from destruction. Al-Qaeda claim came to evade announcing its defeat.
So how long do Emirati troops stay, and what happens when they leave?

Imran Khan lambasts Durrani, Fazl at PTI's Peshawar rally
[DAWN] Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI) chairman Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who isn't your heaviest-duty thinker, maybe not even among the top five...
on Monday criticised Federal Minister for Housing Akram Khan Durrani, asking him as to how he would topple the PTI-led Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
(KP) government.

"Even if a Jew becomes the prime minister of Pakistain, Fazlur Rehman would not only accept a ministry from him but will also issue a religious decree allowing him to lead an Islamic country," said the PTI chief.
Speaking to his party workers and supporters at the rally in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
, the PTI chief came down hard upon the JUI-F affiliated federal minister, who on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
's visit to the province earlier this month criticised PTI for not doing enough to provide relief to the people, and accused Durrani of trying to bribe PTI politicians.

Imran recalled Durrani's claims where he said that he can topple the KP government.

He did not spare the JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman, who often labels him a 'Jewish agent', and said that "Jews do not need agents when people like Fazlur Rehman are there to damage the country".

"Even if a Jew becomes the prime minister of Pakistain, Fazlur Rehman would not only accept a ministry from him but will also issue a religious decree allowing him to lead an Islamic country," said the PTI chief.

Turning his guns finally towards the premier, he reminded the crowd that people in the past had advised him to leave Nawaz Sharif alone and focus on the PPP chief Zardari who is more corrupt but then came Panama Leaks and everyone got to know that Nawaz Sharif's children own offshore firms.

He accused the prime minister of downplaying the issue through visits across the country and doing useless speeches instead of replying to the allegations in parliament and presenting himself for accountability.

"How can the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) bring other corrupt leaders to book when the man leading the country is corrupt himself," said Imran.

FBI raids homes of two Cuomo cronies amid corruption probe
[NYPOST] The FBI raided the homes of two men close to Gov. Andrew Sonny Cuomo as part of the widening federal probe into Albany corruption,The Post has learned.

Agents carted off evidence from the Westchester home of former top Cuomo aide Joseph Percoco and the Washington, DC-area home of lobbyist Todd Howe, who was fired last week after Cuomo’s office barred state officials from any contact with him, sources said.

A Manhattan federal judge approved search warrants for at least three locations, and the raids were carried out two weeks ago, a law enforcement source said.

The feds were able to secure the warrant for Howe’s out-of-state home by arguing that he conducted business within the Southern District of New York, which covers Manhattan, The Bronx and the northern suburbs, the source said.

Howe and Percoco, who in January began working as a top exec at Madison Square Garden, are at the center of a probe that Cuomo’s office has said involves "questions of improper lobbying and undisclosed conflicts of interest by some individuals which may have deceived state employees involved in the respective programs and may have defrauded the state."

Bin Laden’s son Hamza urges militant unity in Syria
The son of Al-Qaeda’s late founder Osama bin Laden has urged militants in Syria to unite, claiming that the fight in the war-torn country paves the way to “liberating Palestine”.

“The Islamic umma (nation) should focus on jihad in Al-Sham (Syria) … and unite the ranks of mujahedeen there,” said 23-year-old Hamza in an audio message posted online.

“There is no longer an excuse for those who insist on division and disputes now that the whole world has mobilised against Muslims,” he said.

His undated message comes after Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri also urged militants in Syria to unite, despite his continued rejection of the rival ISIS and its proclaimed caliphate.

“The matter of unity today is one of life and death,” Zawahiri said in an audio message posted online on Saturday.

“Either you unite to live as Muslims with dignity, or you bicker and separate and so are eaten one by one,” he added, according to SITE Intelligence monitoring group.

Al-Qaeda’s Syria affiliate Al-Nusra Front is a rival of ISIS, which is an Al-Qaeda offshoot whose leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in 2014 declared an Islamic caliphate across territory seized in Iraq and Syria.

Bin Laden’s son said Syria is the “best battlefield” leading to “liberating Al-Quds”, the Arabic name for Jerusalem.

“The road to liberating Palestine is today much shorter compared to before the blessed Syrian revolution,” he said.

'El Chapo' Extradition To U.S. May Proceed, Mexican Judge Says
[NPR.ORG] Two days after drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzmán was transferred to a prison near Juárez, a Mexican city near the U.S. border, a federal judge in Mexico said the extradition process can move forward.

An unnamed judge said the "legal requirements laid out in the extradition treaty" between the U.S. and Mexico had been met, The News Agency that Dare Not be Named reports, adding that Mexico's foreign ministry has 20 days to approve the extradition.

NPR's Carrie Kahn reported in January that Guzmán had been "indicted on drug and arms trafficking, money laundering and murder charges in at least six U.S. states." In July 2015, Guzmán he beat feet from Mexico's supermax Altiplano prison through a mile-long tunnel. He was recaptured in January.

But the judge's go-ahead for extradition is one step in what could still be a lengthy process. Lawyers for Guzman can still try to block or delay any attempts to extradite the infamous leader of the Sinaloa cartel.

As the Two-Way has reported, the head of Mexico's extradition office, Miguel Merino, warned in January that Guzmán's legal team could pursue various appeals that could delay the drug kingpin's extradition for four to six years.

ISIS reportedly executes 7-year-old boy for cursing while playing with friends
[FOXNEWS] Islamic State militants reportedly shot and killed a 7-year-old Syrian boy reportedly in front of his sobbing parents, all because he let a few curse words slip out of his mouth.

The execution took place Thursday in the ISIS stronghold of Raqqa, ARA News reported, citing rights activists and witnesses.

An activist told the news agency that the boy was arrested “after they heard him ‘cursing divinity’ while playing in the street with his friends.”

The activist quoted an ISIS member of Islamic court as saying “the act was considered an insult to the Caliphate, regardless of the age of the boy.”

The ISIS-led Shariah Court sentenced the boy to death, and he was killed in a public square in front of a crowd of hundreds, including his parents, who collapsed after authorities shot him, witnesses told ARA News.

N.C. gov.: Proper bathroom use "now a national issue"
[CBSNEWS] Officials in North Carolina filed a lawsuit Monday against the Department of Justice over the feds' demand that the state not implement its controversial LGBT law or risk losing federal funds.
Fred: can we find a pic of Madison, Jefferson and Franklin doing face palms?
The Justice Department had set a deadline of Monday for Gov. Pat McCrory to report whether he would refuse to enforce the last that took effect in March. McCrory's defiance could lead to a protracted legal battle.

McCrory's lawsuit, filed in federal court in North Carolina, asks a judge to block Justice Department action that could threaten billions of dollars in federal money flowing to the state.

"I do not agree with their interpretation of federal law. That is why this morning I have asked a federal court to clarify what the law actually is," McCrory said at a news conference.

He said he hopes other states will join North Carolina in court as it fights the Justice Department's position that the Civil Rights Act requires that transgender people be allowed to access facilities matching their gender identities.

"This is not a North Carolina issue. It is now a national issue," McCrory said.

The lawsuit called the law a "common sense privacy policy" and said the Justice Department's position was a "baseless and blatant overreach."

In his filing, McCrory cited the fact that he has directed state agencies to make a reasonable accommodation of a single occupancy restroom. The state also allows private companies to set their own policies for bathrooms, locker rooms and shower facilities.

"I'm taking this initiative to ensure that North Carolina continues to receive federal funding until the courts resolve this issue," McCrory said in an earlier blurb.

I wonder if it's possible for McCrory to order payroll companies in NC to not remit Federal tax payments to the Treasury in response? You know, 'pen and a phone' kind of thing?

They gave him three fucking days to respond. If it were the other way around, it would be three months.

"This is not a North Carolina issue. It is now a national issue," McCrory said.

Exactly as intended.

left the theater disappointed. Her reason: Chris Evans’ character, super soldier Captain America, got nostalgic for his "skirt-chasing" days with best friend "Bucky" Barnes.

#1  "When [writers] alter an existing character with decades of history to make the PC crowd happy, then it’s complete garbage because it’s blatant pandering," a reader identified as Joe said.

Not to mention the drop in box office revenue that would result from such a stunt. Joanna's just pissed because it's not her skirt getting chased. Then again, it's a whole lotta skirt!

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Emails From Hillary Clinton’s IT Director at State Department Appear to Be Missing
[ABCNEWS.GO] The State Department said today it can’t find any of Bryan Pagliano’s emails from the time he served as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as The Heroine of Tuzla and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Charles Evans Hughes ...
’s senior information technology staffer during her tenure there.
And since Pagliano is an IT guy, I'm going to guess that he deleted each and every one of those emails properly...
Pagliano would have been required to turn over any official communications from his work account before he left the government. State Department officials say he had an official email account, but that they can't find any of those records and continue to search for them.

"The Department has searched for Mr. Pagliano’s email pst file and has not located one that covers the time period of Secretary Clinton’s tenure," State Department front man Elizabeth Trudeau said today, referencing a file format that holds email.

"To be clear, the Department does have records related to Mr. Pagliano and we are working with Congress and [Freedom of Information Act] requesters to provide relevant material. The Department has located a pst from Mr. Pagliano’s recent work at the Department as a contractor, but the files are from after Secretary Clinton left the Department," Trudeau added.

Obama White House showed ‘bad faith’ in global-warming case, judge rules
[WASHINGTONTIMES] The White House showed "bad faith" in how it handled an open-records request for global warming data, a federal court ruled Monday, issuing yet another stinging rebuke to the administration for showing a lack of transparency.

For President B.O., who vowed to run the most transparent government in U.S. history, Judge Amit P. Mehta’s ruling granting legal "discovery" in an open-records case -- the third time this year a judge has ordered discovery -- is an embarrassing black eye.

In this most recent case, the Competitive Enterprise Institute was trying to force the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy to release documents backing up Director John C. Holdren’s finding that global warming was making winters colder -- a claim disputed by climate scientists. Mr. Holdren’s staffers first claimed they couldn’t find many documents, then tried to hide their release, saying they were all internal or were similar to what was already public.

Second kidnapped Warshefana boy murdered when ransom unpaid
Gotta make that gun money somehow...
Kidnappers dumped the body of a young boy outside a Warshefana mosque yesterday after his family failed to raise the demanded LD 200,000 ransom.

The victim, Eham Mahdani, thought to be nine or ten, was seized outside his Warshfana home eight days ago. It is reported that forensic tests found that the boy had probably not been given anything to eat since his abduction. The cause of death has not been released. A photo of Eham’s body shows signs of bruising to the neck and forehead.

“Once again this crime demonstrates the loss of all humanity in the country” said Taher Al-Badawi, the former spokesman of Supreme Council of Elders of Libya in a social media post today.

Badawi quit his post in February in protest at a similar kidnapping, also in Warshfana. The gang that seized 12 year-old Abdullah Daghnush said they would kill him unless they were paid LD 2 million, which was later reduced to LD 500,000. The family were unable to raise the money.

After Abdullah’s father received a call from the criminals, he found his son’s body between Janzur and Siyad. The rope with which he had been hanged was still around his neck and it was clear that he had been tortured.

Kidnappings appear to have increased significantly in recent months. By no means all these crimes are reported to any authority or given any publicity. The abductors have sometimes made this one of their conditions.

(IraqiNews.com) Salahaddin – A security source in Salahuddin Province announced on Monday, that three power transmission towers collapsed after being detonated by homemade improvised explosive devices east of Tikrit (170 km north of Baghdad), while emphasized that the detonation caused an interruption in the electric power supply in al-Alam area east of the city.

The source said in a statement obtained by IraqiNews.com, “Unidentified gunmen detonate three power transmission towers in Albu Khaddo area between Samarra and Dour (25 km east of Tikrit), using homemade improvised explosive devices, destroying the towers completely.”

The source, who asked anonymity, added, “The bombing of the towers caused an interruption in the supply of electrical power in al-Alam area east of Tikrit.”

Acting speaker of Brazil lower house annuls Rousseff impeachment
The acting speaker of the lower house of Brazil's Congress annulled the impeachment process against President Dilma Rousseff on May 9 and called for a new vote in the chamber.
The fix is in...
Waldir Maranhao, who took over as acting speaker last week, said there were procedural flaws in the April 17 vote in the chamber that accepted impeachment charges against Rousseff.
"What was the flaw?"
"They succeeded in impeaching her!"
After last month's lower house vote, the impeachment process was passed to the Senate, where a Senate committee recommended on May 6 that the leftist president be put on trial by the full chamber for breaking budget laws.

In a news release, Maranhao said the impeachment process should be returned by the Senate so that the lower house can vote again. It remained unclear whether his decision could be overruled by the Supreme Court, the Senate or a majority in the house.
The Senate could ignore her and just carry on...
Brazilian markets fell sharply after the surprising decision was announced.

The full Senate had been expected to vote to put Rousseff on trial on May 11, which would immediately suspend her for the duration of a trial that could last six months. During that period, Vice President Michel Temer would replace her as acting president.

UN envoy urges concessions to save Yemen peace talks
The UN special envoy to Yemen on Monday urged the country's warring parties to make concessions to save peace talks aimed at ending a devastating 13-month war. The appeal by Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed came after face-to-face talks broke off with the government delegation complaining of a lack of progress and the Iran-backed Huthi rebels protesting about air raids by the Saudi-led Arab coalition.

After holding several separate meetings with each delegation, Ould Cheikh Ahmed called on the two sides to "make concessions in order to strike a comprehensive peaceful solution" to end Yemen's deadly conflict.

"The participants in the Kuwait negotiations must reflect the aspirations of the Yemeni people. I am confident that Yemenis want an end to the conflict," he said in a statement.
Ahmed has to say this: if the peace talks collapse so does his expense account...
All direct meetings scheduled for Sunday were called off, but the UN envoy said new talks are scheduled for Monday and appealed for cooperation.
