Europe
More than 1,000 People Evacuated from Paris Migrant Camp
[AnNahar] Police evacuated more than one thousand people from a makeshift migrant camp near a Gay Paree metro station on Monday, the third time the camp has been cleared in as many months.

Shortly after 6:00 am, people who had been staying in the tightly packed tents under an elevated section of the Stalingrad station in the north of Gay Paree began boarding buses to take them to reception centres.

The evacuation passed off largely without incident, authorities said.

Although only around 500 people had been counted at the camp the night before, police said around 1,350 people had gathered there Monday to be re-located to accommodation centres, suggesting that migrants colonists from other parts of Gay Paree had swelled their numbers.

Around 150 coppers were involved in the operation to relocate the migrants colonists, mostly from Sudan and Afghanistan.

"We're happy to leave," said Moustafa, a 24-year-old Afghan who had been at the camp for a month. "There were fights every night at the camp."

Another Afghan, Abdullah, said he hoped to stay in Gay Paree long-term. "That is where the rest of the community is and there is work here."

He said he had given up hope of reaching Britannia, the country which many of his compatriots try to reach from La Belle France.

"It's a good country here," he said.

Flimsy tents were packed into a small area around the station and the overflowing rubbish bins and piles of mattresses indicated that conditions at the camp had deteriorated in recent weeks.

Jean-Francois Carenco, the prefect of the Ile de La Belle France area that includes Gay Paree, said he expected the migrants colonists to request asylum.

"Those who do not request asylum or who behave badly will be expelled," he said. "La Belle France is not a place for disorder and chaos."

Nearly 80,000 people applied for asylum in La Belle France in 2015, but it has been affected less than its European neighbours by the mass influx of migrants colonists over the last 18 months.

The main migrant camp in La Belle France, the so-called "Jungle" in the northern port of Calais, now holds around 5,000 people, according to charity workers, but the government says that figure is vastly inflated.

Police nab Palestinian suspect in Jerusalem stabbing attack
[IsraelTimes] 18-year-old from West Bank admits carrying out Old City assault that moderately maimed an Israeli man, officials

Police late Monday night incarcerated
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
a Paleostinian youth suspected of stabbing and moderately injuring an Israeli man in Jerusalem’s Old City on Monday evening.

The suspect was detained after a major manhunt for the perpetrator in the attack in the heart of Jerusalem’s ancient quarter, which ended weeks of relative calm after months of roiling violence in the capital.

Immediately after the attack, security officials shut down the Old City and launched extensive searches for the assailant, the police said in a statement.

The attacker, an 18-year-old resident of the West Bank, admitted during initial questioning that he had carried out the attack. The investigation was ongoing, police said.

According to officials, the victim, apparently in his 60s, said he was stabbed in the back on al-Khaldaya Street in the center of Old City and reached the Austrian Hospice hotel some 300 meters away, where he reported he’d been attacked and asked for help.

Police spokesperson Luba Samri said that officers found a knife at the scene.

The victim was transferred to a local hospital for treatment. Hospital officials described him as stable and conscious.

Afghanistan
Police defuse Taliban bomb planted in a graveyard in Ghazni city
The Afghan National Police (ANP) forces discovered and defused an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted in a graveyard in Ghazni city.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said “Today morning, Afghan National Police detected a remote controlled mine which was placed by enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan in a graveyard in the 2nd District of Ghazni City capital of Ghazni province.”

The statement further added “Afghan National Police detected a roadside bomb placed by enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan in Kashk village, Khowaja Omari District of Ghazni province, yesterday.”

The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report so far.

Taliban militants and insurgents belonging to the other militant groups frequently use Improvised Explosive Device (IED) as the weapon of their choice to target the Afghan security forces.

However, the ordinary civilians are mostly targeted in roadside bombings. Meanwhile, it is yet not clear who was the target of the IED attack in Ghazni city graveyard.

This comes as a group of 9 Taliban insurgents were killed after stepping on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by the fellow fighters of the group in northeastern Badakhshan province.

Taliban shadow governor Haji Lala killed with his 43 fighter in Kandahar
Taliban shadow governor for southern Kandahar province has been killed along with his 43 fighters during an operation of the Afghan security forces.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said Hayat also famous as Haji Lala was killed during a special military raid of the Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police forces.

A statement by MoI said his deputy identified as Ahmad Shah Hemat was also killed along with 43 fighters during the raid conducted in Kata Sang area of Shahwali Kot district.

The Afghan forces also confiscated some weapons and ammunition following the special military operation, MoI added.

The Taliban militants group has not commented regarding the report so far.

The Afghan security forces have stepped up counter-terrorism operations across the country to suppress the insurgency activities of the group as the weather gets warm, resulting into more attacks by the insurgents of the group across the country.

This comes as the Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since the group announced its spring offensive earlier this month but the security officials are saying that the offensive has been successfully repulsed and the group has suffered heavy loss.

Army front man Col. Sani Usman said in a statement that at least three turbans were killed while nine were captured in the operations in northeastern Borno State.

"The troops also recovered 300 herds of cattle rustled by the Boko Haram Death Eaters from Fulani herdsmen and handed over to the right rightful owners," said Usman.

Sunday’s rescue of 400 people brings to around 1,400 the number of hostages freed in the last month alone by the military, according to official figures released on Sunday by commander of the operation Maj. Gen. Lucky Irabor.

Moqtada al-Sadr Makes Unannounced Visit to Iran
Populist Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr flew to Iran on Monday, a top aide said, one day after hundreds of his supporters withdrew from their occupation of Iraq’s highly fortified International Zone in a protest that had paralyzed the country’s government.

Ibrahim Al Jaberi, head of the Sadr office in Baghdad, said the cleric had departed for Iran Monday, but provided no other details on his itinerary.

His departure came as spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry, Hossein Jaberi Ansari, “expressed Iran’s readiness to use all its links in line with paving the way for Iraqi talks,” according to an official statement carried by Iran’s state-controlled news agency.

The cleric’s travel to Iran would provide some indication of how he might turn to Tehran to help resolve the current standoff with the Iraqi government. The Islamic Republic, which provides substantial support to Shiite militia groups who are playing a major role in the fight against Islamic State, already enjoys considerable sway in Iraqi politics. One possibility is that Mr. Sadr hopes to take the Iranians up on their offer to mediate among senior Shiite Iraqi politicians.

Though Mr. Sadr is considered by some in Iran’s political establishment as an unpredictable partner, analysts say he’s unlikely to buck the wishes of a key patron.

Unknown assailants attack JuD madrassah, leave 15 injured
PESHAWAR: Fifteen people, including three children, were injured in a late-night attack Sunday on a Jamaatud Dawa madrassah in Peshawar's Tehkal area.

Superintendent Police Cantonment Peshawar Kashif said the assailants opened fire and lobbed grenades at the Baitul Mukarrama Alhadees seminary. Members of the seminary were having dinner after lessons when the unknown men attacked the building.

One of the attackers suffered serious injuries and was shifted to Combined Military Hospital Peshawar for treatment where he is in critical condition, the SP said, adding it was possible the attacker was injured as a result of firing by one of his own men. He said the injured attacker was shifted to CMH from Khyber Teaching Hospital as there were no CT Scan machines available.

The SP said interrogation of the arrested individual may shed some light on the motives behind the seminary attack.

Khyber Teaching Hospital sources confirmed they received 16 people injured in the seminary attack, out of which four people were discharged after treatment and 11 retained in the hospital.

EU warns Egypt over freedom of expression
[AA.TR] The European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
warned Egypt on Monday over the recent storming of a labor union building in Cairo and the arrest of journalists.

The statement comes after the country’s security forces raided the Egyptian Press Syndicate's offices on Sunday.

Undercover coppers detained two journalists who had been holding a sit-in in solidarity with detained colleagues.

The EU described the situation as "a worrying development, and continues a trend of restricting space for civil society and the freedom of expression".

The 28-country bloc also called for the release of those detained and urged that the law regulating free assembly be in line with Egypt’s constitution.

"Freedom of assembly and press freedom are essential for democracy, to guarantee that all peaceful voices are heard and respected," the EU statement added.

Caribbean-Latin America
ELN rebels reject Colombia govt preconditions for talks
[AA.TR] In a strongly worded interview Monday, representatives of the ELN guerrilla group rejected President Juan Manuel Santos’ conditions for releasing all hostages and halting attacks on infrastructure before public peace talks can begin.

"What if we placed the condition that in order to continue the dialogues that all guerrillas have to be freed from prisons where they are being held in inhumane conditions and dying from lack of medical attention from the state," said Nicolás Rodríguez Bautista, alias ’Gabino’, commander-in-chief of the National Liberation Army (ELN).

The reaction by the ELN came in response to Santos’ demands made Friday that no public round of peace talks with the rebels would commence until the guerrilla group released all hostages in their power and ceased attacks on infrastructure.

Santos announced March 30 that the exploratory phase of talks with the ELN had come to an end and that formal dialogues would begin in Ecuador.

The ELN is believed to consist of 1,500 combatants while the larger Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia
FARC or FARC-EP, is either a Marxist-Leninist revolutionary guerrilla organization or a drug cartel based in Colombia. It claims to represent the rural poor in a struggle against Colombia's wealthier classes, and opposes United States influence in Colombia, neo-imperialism, monopolization of natural resources by multinational corporations, and the usual raft of complaints. It funds itself principally through ransom kidnappings, taxation of the drug trade, extortion, shakedowns, and donations. It has lately begun calling itself Bolivarian and is greatly admired by Venezuela's President-for-Life Chavez, who seemingly fantasizes about living in the woods and kidnapping people himself. He provides FARC with safe areas along the border.
(FARC), currently involved in long-running peace dialogues with the government, number approximately 7,000 fighters.

"This only delays the start of conversations," said Gabino. "And as we are agreed on the talks’ agenda, the sensible thing to do would be to take it as it has been agreed."

While Santos has yet to respond, Colombia's interior minister has spoken out regarding the ELN’s policy of kidnapping and recent attack on the Caño Limón -- Coveñas oil pipeline.

"The margin for tolerance of Colombians towards these acts of terrorism is zero," said Juan Fernando. "They cannot presume to continue kidnapping and think that Colombian society won’t be outraged."

According to data provided by the Colombian NGO País Libre, which works to combat kidnapping, extortion and forced disappearances, the ELN has kidnapped 5,590 victims since 1986.

The Ministry of Defense claims that since that 1996 the group has kidnapped by the ELN at least 4,590 victims.

Iran to grant citizenship to families of foreign ‘martyrs’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iran has passed a law allowing the government to grant citizenship to the families of foreigners killed while fighting for the Islamic republic, the official IRNA news agency reported Monday.

"Members of the parliament authorized the government to grant Iranian citizenship to the wife, children and parents of foreign deaders who died on a mission... during the Iran-Iraq war (1980-1988) and afterwards," it said.

Citizenship must be awarded "within a maximum period of one year after the request", IRNA added.

Iran’s outgoing conservative-dominated parliament will serve until late May.

No figures are available on the number of imported muscle killed during the Iran-Iraq war, but Afghans, and even a group of Iraqis, fought alongside Iranian forces against the regime of Saddam Hussein.

The law could apply to "volunteers" from Afghanistan and Pakistain who are fighting in Syria and Iraq against jihadists including the Islamic State

Did Fox fire Andrea Tantaros?
Was Andrea Tantaros outnumbered on Outnumbered?

Tantaros, the co-host of that political chat show airing weekdays at noon Eastern time on the Fox News Channel featuring four female panelists and #oneluckyguy in the middle of the couch, has been mysteriously absent from the show since last Tuesday.

The timing is very odd in that her book Tied Up in Knots: How Getting What We Wanted Made Women Miserable was officially published the day before, and under ordinary circumstances, she (or any other similarly situated FNC personality/author) would be aggressively hyping the book on various Fox platforms as well as other media outlets.

Internet speculation, so far unsubstantiated, suggests that either Fox executives were displeased with her open support of Donald Trump’s presidential candidacy or that something in her new book ran counter to Fox policy. The latter seems unlikely, however, in that network lawyers presumably would have vetted the manuscript first.

It’s also possible that the dispute is about salary or other perks (hardly unheard of in the TV business) moving forward.

Although Fox News hosts such as Bill O’Reilly, Howard Kurtz, and especially Sean Hannity also lean toward The Donald, Fox News has given a large megaphone to many Trump-bashing, pro-Ted Cruz pundits, and several of its anchors have also been almost giddy about the possibility of a brokered or contested convention that would deny Trump a first-ballot nomination on the GOP presidential ticket.

Tantaros’ Twitter feed, while still active, has offered no explanation for her abrupt absence from the Fox News airwaves. There are also reports that she cancelled previously scheduled radio interviews about the book.

Tantaros (who last year was rumored to be romantically linked to musician Dave Navarro) apparently went unmentioned during the Outnumbered two-year anniversary show.

#1  Note to Mr. Trump. If you make it, pull all White House Press passes. Then let the buffoons know that you will selectively issue new ones dependent upon who you wish to have access. They'll scream, but as boot licking operatives of the enemy opposing forces, they have no legitimacy to access.

There isn't a single registered Republican in the White House Press Corps.

Sixty percent are not registered to vote, but 72 percent of those polled said they think reporters should vote in elections they cover.

#9  Fact: shutting them out until they obey is a dictatorial thing to do.

Asasholes like you have handed HIllary the presidency.

Trump voters have deluded themselves into thinking 40% of the Republican Party equaled the “will of the people.” The Republican Party is the smaller of the two political parties and a majority of registered voters view Trump unfavorably. You cant being in enough angry blue-collar white voters, white supremacists and unthinking populists to make up the difference.

You will be held responsbile for Hillarys supreme court and a Dem majority senate.

Are you ready to accept the blame for putting Donald Trump as the biggest loser nomineee ever for the GOP? McGovern's loss is going to look competitive by comparison.

And no this isnt trolling, you small minded brainwashed fools. This is telling you the truth. You deserve that much before reality slaps you down hard.

#12  Don't merely dismiss trolls. Often times they reveal things that are true, or believed by many. Instead push back on their interpretation of the meaning of the facts they cite.

Here is a quote, "That'll be really smart. Be known as the president who refuses to speak with the press unless they demonstrate loyalty to him."

And that is exactly what Obama has done. Not a single member of the White House press corps is a registered Republican, according to survey results recently published by Politico.

Quote: "Trump voters have deluded themselves into thinking 40% of the Republican Party equaled the “will of the people.”

USA Today: "With his five blowout wins Tuesday night, Donald Trump has passed Mitt Romney’s popular vote total from four years ago and is on a trajectory that could land him more Republican votes than any presidential candidate in modern history – by a lot."

I'm not saying Trump is a good guy, I am saying trolls are dumb, and countering their dumb posts is what Rantburg is for.

Britain
UK’s Labour ‘secretly suspended 50 members for anti-Semitic, racist comments’
[IsraelTimes] Report comes as Corbyn for first time concedes that party does have problem with anti-Semitism in its ranks, but insists it is ’not huge’

Britannia’s Labour party has "secretly suspended" 50 of its members for anti-Semitic and racist comments, a UK paper said Monday. The report came as Labour chairman Jeremy Corbyn conceded for the first time Monday that the party does have a problem with anti-Jewish sentiment, but insisted that it is "not a huge problem."

A string of Labour politicians have been publicly suspended recently for making anti-Semitic remarks, among them former London mayor and close Corbyn ally Red Ken Livingstone, who said Thursday that Hitler supported Zionism before he "went mad and ended up killing 6 million Jews."

Livingstone, who has refused to apologize for the comments, was defending party MP Naz Shah, suspended a day earlier for her own 2014 Facebook post calling for Israel to be dismantled. On Monday, a further three party politicians were suspended for anti-Semitic and anti-Israel remarks.

According to the Telegraph, the public suspensions "are said to be just the tip of the iceberg."

The report said that Labour’s small compliance unit, which vets new members in order to weed out unsuitable candidates, is struggling to deal with the vast numbers of "hard-left supporters" who have joined in the wake of Corbyn’s September election as leader.

But Corbyn said Monday that only a "very small number of people" had made controversial remarks about Jews and Israel.

"What there is is a very small number of people that have said things that they should not have done," he told the left-leaning Mirror newspaper. "We have therefore said they will be suspended and investigated."

Among those suspended Monday was Shah Hussain, a councilor for the northern town of Burnley, who in July 2014 directed a series of Twitter posts at Israeli soccer player Yossi Benayoun, then coming to the end of his career in the UK, calling him a "complete and utter plonker" and saying he and Israel were "doing the same thing that hitler [sic] did to ur race in ww2."

The head of Israel’s Labor Party Isaac Herzog condemned the British Labour members’ comments, saying he was "weighing suspending ties and it would appear that there won’t be any other choice, despite the fact that it’s clear that most party members are friends of Israel and that these statements represent just a small and loud minority within it."

Speaking at a May Day event on Sunday, Corbyn rebuffed calls to denounce contacts with terror groups Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, and Hezbollah, while repeating his declaration that the Labour Party is against anti-Semitism.

But as Labour attempted to push back against efforts to label it anti-Semitic, it also came under fire for Corbyn’s past contacts with Hamas and Hezbollah, both sworn to Israel’s destruction. A statement from Corbyn’s spokesperson said he would continue to engage such groups, while denying that doing so was tantamount to an endorsement.
Ynet adds Labour suspended two more on Monday:
City councilor Ilyas Azis suggested on Facebook that it might have been wiser to create Israel in America and that Israel could be relocated "even now," while former Blackburn mayor Salim Mulla suggested that Israel is behind ISIS.

Would-be Miami synagogue bomber was reported convert to Islam
[IsraelTimes] James Medina tossed in the clink
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
for attempting to blow up Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center, told FBI informant it was a ’call of duty’

The South Florida man arrested for planning to bomb a Miami synagogue has been publicly identified and charged in federal court. James Gonzalo Medina, 40, of Hollywood, appeared in court in Miami on Monday afternoon, several media outlets reported.

Medina, who according to court papers is a convert to Islam, was arrested on a charge of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction in an attempt to blow up the Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center during Friday night services, the last night of Passover.

The Conservative synagogue serves some 800 families in Aventura, a thriving Jewish community just north of Miami Beach, according to the synagogue’s website.

Local 10 News reported that the criminal complaint also accuses Medina of planning to attack the synagogue on Yom Kippur. Medina told a confidential informant more than once that he planned to strike during Yom Kippur using AK-47 assault rifles, Local 10 said, citing the complaint. When the informant told Medina the attack might look as if it were orchestrated by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, Medina expressed pleasure, believing it would "inspire other Muslims to attack as well."

Asked by the FBI informant why he wanted to attack the synagogue, Medina said it was his "call of duty" and something he had to do "for the glory of Allah," the complaint said, according to the Washington Post. Medina also told the informant he believed "Jewish people are the ones causing the world’s wars and conflicts."

According to the Sun Sentinel, Medina tried to make a speech during his court appearance, but was stopped by US Magistrate Judge William Turnoff after saying, "I’ve got a few words of my own... My name is James Medina, aka James Mohammed."

Prosecutor Marc Anton told the judge that Medina talked about "obtaining a bomb he could either place under a car or throw it over the wall."

Medina also recorded farewell videos in which he made threats and said goodbye to his family.

"I am a Muslim and I don’t like what is going on in this world. I’m going to handle business here in America. Aventura, watch your back. ISIS is in the house," the complaint said he declared in one video.

After the undercover informant provided Medina with what he said was an bomb, the FBI arrested Medina on his way to the synagogue. The device was not real, authorities said.

Medina is being detained at the Federal Detention Center in Miami and will remain there until at least Thursday, the day of his arraignment and bond hearing.

If convicted, Medina faces a maximum penalty of life in federal prison, according to the Sun Sentinel. He has not indicated whether he will plead innocent or guilty.

In a statement published in the Sun Sentinel, the synagogue said its leadership "has been briefed by law enforcement and Jewish community security officials" and been assured "that the synagogue and school were never at risk at any time during the investigation and arrest, and that there are no credible threats directed against us at the present time."

Rabbi Jonathan Berkun and other officials from the Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center said on Twitter that the synagogue and its affiliated school were open and "operating as usual" on Monday.

Medina has several prior arrests, including one for sending violent threats via text message. He said in court that he is out of work, divorced and has no significant assets. He was provided a court-appointed lawyer.

Jewish leaders in Europe and the US have warned of increased threats of attacks against Jewish institutions. In 2015, the Senate voted to increase security funding for synagogues, day schools and other institutions under the Nonprofit Security Grant Program.

Afghanistan
Key Taliban group member Qari Zubair killed in Badakhshan
A key member of the Taliban group was killed during an operation in northeastern Badakhshan province of Afghanistan, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said Monday.

“Yesterday evening, Afghan National Police conducted a security operation to clear some of the areas from terrorists and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan,” a statement by MoI said.

The statement further added “The operation was conducted in Band Ghorila village, Raghistan district of northeastern Badakhshan province, as a result a key member of armed Taliban group (Qari Zubair) was killed and three other armed Taliban were wounded.”

According to MoI, the Afghan police forces also discovered some ammunition during the operation.

The Taliban militants group has not commented regarding the report so far.

Badakhshan is among the relatively volatile provinces in northeastern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militant groups are actively operating in a number of its districts and often carry out insurgency activities.

Earlier, a group of 9 Taliban insurgents were killed after stepping on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by the fellow fighters of the group in this province.

Mall arrest after suicide vest mistake
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Kuwaiti police incarcerated
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
a man in a shopping mall suspected of wearing a boom jacket, local media reported. The only thing was the vest was an exercise jacket packed with weights rather than explosives.

Concerned shoppers at the mall in the Kuwaiti governorate of Hawalli, tipped off police after spotting the man’s chunky attire and assumed he was a terrorist about to blow himself up.

When police approached the man, they arrested him and strapped his hands together behind his back. They carefully removed the vest, expecting to find explosives and a detonator.

Instead all they found were exercise weights designed to add resistance when walking and running to help boost fitness and burn calories.

Witnesses told local press the police dealt with the man "in a professional manner" and they said there was no panic.

Kuwaitis remain on high alert after last year’s deadly suicide kaboom on a mosque in Kuwait city in June, 2015, which left 27 worshippers dead.

Afghanistan
Taliban Control Helmand Districts Despite Operations
Despite large scale military operations in the volatile southern province of Helmand, two districts – Nad Ali and Babaji – are still under the control of the Taliban.

Reporting from Helmand, TOLOnews' correspondent Abdul Wali Arian said although it is poppy-sapping time in the province, fierce battles between security forces and insurgents have resumed.

Arian reports that despite security forces being well prepared they are not getting orders from security organizations to move forward.

"Whenever forces conduct operations the militants flee the areas and after operations end, the militants return more powerful than the past and insurgents attack check posts," Arian said.

Security forces in Helmand province have however criticized central government. They said they are in a defensive position and are waiting for orders to take offensive action.

But residents report that their morale is good.

"The people's morale is good but forces are fighting against militants but they do not have [offensive] operation orders," Arian said.

According to Arian security forces have said that if they are given the order to carry out offensive attacks, they will be able to secure a peaceful environment for the locals.

Puerto Rico Warns of More Defaults After Missing May Payment
Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla warned that Puerto Rico bond investors face a cascade of defaults starting in July unless Congress passes legislation that facilitates a restructuring of the commonwealth’s debt.

The exhortation made Monday in San Juan came a day after Garcia Padilla announced a moratorium on the payment of $400 million in Government Development Bank debt that matured Sunday. The governor said he was choosing to focus on providing essential services as the commonwealth’s financial crisis worsens, rather then to pay creditors. The default is the biggest yet by the island.

The missed payment opens the door to larger and more consequential defaults on general-obligation bonds, which are protected by the island’s constitution. Puerto Rico and its agencies owe $2 billion on July 1, including $805 million in GOs. It also could affect slow-moving efforts by U.S. lawmakers to resolve the biggest crisis ever in the municipal bond market.

Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
terror group was killed Monday, and two others were maimed, when a bomb went kaboom! east of the Jabaliya refugee camp in the northern Gazoo Strip.

The Paleostinian Health Ministry named the man as 30-year-old Mazen Muhammed Lulu, from the Shejaiya district in the eastern Strip.

The circumstances surrounding the blast were not immediately clear.

According to Paleostinian reports, Lulu was a fighter in the al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad.

A statement released by the group mourned the death of Lulu, saying he was killed "as he carried out his duty of jihad."

The Iran-backed Islamic Jihad is the second-strongest armed movement in the Gazoo Strip, after Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,.

Saudi women to get copy of marriage contracts
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Saudi women tying the knot will now get a copy of their marriage contracts, a privilege that has been exclusive to men in the ultra-conservative kingdom, justice ministry said Monday.

According to a directorate issued by Justice Minister Walid al-Samaani, holy mans who register marriage contracts in the Muslim kingdom will now have to hand a copy to the bride "to ensure her awareness of her rights and the terms of the contract".

The decision aims to "protect the rights of the woman and facilitate procedures for her," the ministry said in a statement carried by SPA state news agency.

It said the decision took into consideration that a woman would need a copy of her marriage contract in case of a dispute with her husband and in court.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
7 tons of pot seized in San Diego
Federal officials on Friday announced the seizure of 7 tons of marijuana valued at more than $7 million at a San Diego border crossing, a seizure described as unusually large.

The marijuana was found in an old tractor-trailer that entered the Otay Mesa cargo facility about 9:40 a.m. Thursday, The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Customs officers ran the truck through an imaging system and then opened boxes stacked inside containing 587 wrapped packages of marijuana, according to the paper.

The truck and trailer were seized and the 47-year-old Mexican driver was turned over to agents with the Department of Homeland Security.

The driver attempted to enter the country from Tijuana, Mexico, declaring that he was carrying furniture.

Border agents at border crossing cargo facilities in Southern California have seized bigger shipments of marijuana.

#9  swksvolFF,

Some observations from traveling with a medical user from California to Colorado.

1) Colorado stuff is just about the same price as medical grade in CA
2) A lot of places deliver like pizza that is really handy for the infirmed or just too stoned crowd.
3) The Colorado stuff is waaay better than the CA stuff
4) People all over are just walking in and out without caring about being seen. Most city and state police don't care about them.
5) Pot is a very lucrative business and both the people in the industry and the government are making some good money off it. Most illegal dealers are actually having a hard time competing with the stores and their product isn't as good so they are switching to selling harder drugs.

Philippines ‘pleased’ with release of 10 Indonesians
[AA.TR] The Philippines’ government said Monday it was pleased with the release of 10 Indonesians held hostage by ISIS-linked holy warriors, while underlining that operations were ongoing to rescue remaining captives.

The 10 sailors were turned over Sunday to the governor of the majority Muslim island province of Sulu, after being kidnapped in late March from a tugboat off the nearby province of Tawi-Tawi.

Their release came six days after the Abu Sayyaf
...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder...
beheaded a Canadian hostage, 68-year-old John Ridsdel, after a 300-million pesos ($6 million) ransom failed to be paid.

"The Philippine Government is pleased at the positive developments resulting in the safe release of 10 Indonesian nationals kidnapped by the Abu Sayyaf on March 26, 2016," the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said in a statement Monday.

"While intensified operations continue on the ground, the DFA maintains close coordination with concerned foreign governments in ensuring the safe return of all the remaining hostages," it added.

After the 10 men were left at the residence of Sulu Governor Abdusakur Tan II, they were brought to a military hospital where they cleared checkups and were flown to the Indonesian capital of Jakarta at night.

It has not been confirmed whether a 50 million peso ($1 million) ransom demanded for their release was paid.

While an unnamed source told the Philippine Inquirer daily that the ransom had been paid, Indonesia’s government’s negotiator, Major General Kivlan Zen, was quoted by detik.com as insisting that efforts had involved "purely negotiation".

The Abu Sayyaf is notorious for beheading victims after ransoms have failed to be paid for their release.

After the 10 sailors were freed, Indonesian President Joko Widodo declared that Jakarta was cooperating with its neighbor for the release of four other nationals seized from a tugboat off Tawi-Tawi in mid-April.

The Abu Sayyaf is believed to still be holding more than a dozen captives including four Malaysians kidnapped off the coast of Malaysia’s eastern Sabah state in early April.

Other hostages include a Canadian, a Norwegian and a Filipino woman seized alongside Ridsdel in September, a Dutch national kidnapped more than three years ago in Tawi-Tawi, a Chinese national and six other Filipinos.

Nearly two million Venezuelans sign on for Maduro recall
[FRANCE24] Venezuela's opposition presented reams of signatures to election authorities Monday calling for a referendum to remove President Nicolas Maduro, whom it blames for the country's crushing economic crisis.

Venezuelans fed up with food shortages, soaring inflation and now a paralyzing electricity crunch have flocked to sign a petition for a recall referendum, according to the opposition Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD).

It said it had presented 1.85 million signatures -- more than nine times the number needed to launch the referendum process -- to the National Electoral Board.

MUD executive secretary Jesus Torrealba said 80 boxes packed with referendum petitions had been presented to the authorities.

However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
board official Tania D'Amelio suggested Sunday on Twitter that the authorities might not start verifying the signatures until late May.

That drew opposition cries of bias in favor of Maduro and the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).

"There's no doubt about it... Tania D'Amelio is a supporter and unconditional activist of the PSUV and is working to prevent a recall referendum this year," said Henry Ramos Allup, the speaker of the opposition-controlled legislature.

Racing against clock
Opponents are racing to hold a recall referendum before the end of the year.

Under Venezuela's constitution, after January 2017 a successful recall vote would transfer power to Maduro's vice president rather than trigger new elections.

The constitution gives the authorities five days to verify the signatures collected by the opposition.

But D'Amelio indicated that the five-day countdown would begin only once the full 30 days allotted for circulating the petition had lapsed.

The opposition insists there is no need to wait until the end of the 30-day period because it already surpassed the required 200,000 signatures "in record time."

If the electoral board accepts the signatures as valid -- far from a sure bet -- the opposition will then have to collect four million more for the board to organize the vote.

Possible NPA bombing spree averted in South Cotabato
[PNA] The Philippine military, police, and villagers prevented what could have been a bombing spree by suspected New People's Army militants in South Cotabato with the discovery of 19 improvised explosive devices in a raid at the group's hideout on dawn on Monday morning.

Acting on tips from villagers, troops seized the IEDs in a compound they raided in a remote village of Dumangas in T'boli, South Cotabato.

Lt. Colonel Benjamin Leander said, "Civilians informed us about the presence of armed men in a safe house, we responded but the armed men were gone."

After a thorough search of the camp, security forces found the large cache of explosives. Leander said the recovered IEDs were similar to landmines used by communist guerrillas around South Cotabato.

No one has claimed ownership of the explosives, but the military suspects they are owned by the Maoist miliatnts, who have been attacking government forces, construction companies and multi-national firms in South Cotabato.

Afghanistan
Taliban mulling peace talks as Afghan govt opts military option
The Taliban militants group is mulling to participate in peace talks days after the Afghan government announced strict military actions against the group as efforts to revive peace process did not yield any positive result.

The announcement by the Afghan government followed a deadly coordinated car bomb attack in Kabul that left at least 64 dead and 347 others wounded.

However, a delegation of the Taliban group representing their political office in Qatar have said the group is willing to resume the stalled peace talks.

The delegation reportedly met with the Pakistani authorities in Islamabad during visit which was originally announced by the group to focus on border issues and condition of the refugees in the country.

According to the Pakistani officials familier with Taliban delegation’s visit to Islamabad, the trip’s objective was to explore the possibility of direct talks with Kabul, local media reports stated.

The Chinese representatives also reportedly participated in the talks between the Islamabad and the Taliban delegation.

“For this purpose, we told the Taliban delegation that they have to agree on cessation of violence inside Afghanistan,” an official privy of the developemnt told The Express Tribune.

This comes as President Ghani asked Pakistan to take actions against the Taliban group leaderships based in Peshawar and Quetta cities of Pakistan.

President Ghani made the call during a gathering in capital Kabul following the deadly attack, specifying the government’s stance towards the peace process and fight against the militant groups.

He warned to take the issue to the international organizations including the UN Security Council if Pakistan failed to take any action against the group in its soil.

India-Pakistan
Army approves operational details of combing operations
ISLAMABAD: The military’s top brass approved on Monday the timeline and operational details of countrywide ‘combing operations’ against terrorists and militant groups, which would involve large-scale army deployments.

“A comprehensive plan for carrying out Combing Operations was approved,” the Inter-Services Public Relations said in a media statement after the Corps Commanders Conference at the General Headquarters, which was chaired by Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif.

The army chief had talked about the ‘combing operations’ during his visit to Shawal last month, where he had announced the successful completion of the military action in North Waziristan.

The combing operations are aimed at locating the terrorists, their facilitators and sleeper cells in different parts of the country and neutralising them, besides expanding the reach of civilian law enforcement agencies.

The term ‘combing operation’ is a new addition to the Zarb-i-Azb lexicon. The Zarb-i-Azb started as ‘kinetic operations’ in North Waziristan in June 2014, which were later supplemented by ‘intelligence-based operations (IBOs)’ outside the tribal agency, primarily to pre-empt the then much feared backlash against the counter-terrorism campaign. Military officials say IBOs, during which a large number of terrorists were either apprehended or killed, turned out to be a major success because they helped in improving security situation throughout the country.

Combing operations, it is said, would be different from IBOs, where security forces acted on specific intelligence information about a terrorist threat. Under the combing operations, military would be deployed in potentially troubled areas and the troops would then seek out terrorists, their sleeper cells and facilitators, an official said while explaining the new concept.

“We have to go beyond what IBOs achieved,” the official maintained.

The combing operations would be led by the army, but would involve different security forces, including civilian law enforcement agencies.

Army’s preparations for combing operations, according to a source, are complete and would commence anytime. Although no tentative timeframe is being shared about the completion of these operations, it is generally expected that they would conclude before Gen Raheel Sharif’s retirement in the last week of November.

The military has already done its mapping of trouble spots. “These would be scattered operations involving large force size,” a source said adding they “can be undertaken anywhere in the country”.

“We’ll follow terrorists everywhere and use every strategy to defeat them,” a military official said.

Asked about the terrorists and militants organisations that would be targeted on priority, the official said, the action would be across-the-board and without any discrimination.

The new operations would be conducted under the Zarb-i-Azb framework and no fresh legal cover would be required, a source said.

Iraq: Shia splits worsen after Green Zone storming
[AA.TR] Political segregation has deepened inside Iraq’s Shia coalition after followers of holy man Moqtada Tater al-Sadr
... the Iranian catspaw holy man who was 22 years old in 2003 and was nearing 40 in 2010. He spends most of his time in Iran, safely out of the line of fire, where he's learning to be an ayatollah...

Head of the Baghdad-based Iraqi Group for Strategic Research, Wathaq al-Hashimi, said the fate of the country could be jeopardized due the latest incident.

"Iraq now faces dire political risks. The upcoming period will be even more dangerous due to the ongoing chaos," Hashimi warned, pointing out that both the U.S. and UN -- along with other powers -- had condemned the Sadrists’ occupation of the Iraqi parliament.

The Grand Turk
New mass brawl erupts in Turkey parliament
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Ruling party and opposition Turkish politicians on Monday exchanged punches and hurled water bottles at each other as a new mass brawl erupted in parliament over changes to the constitution, television broadcasts showed.

Parliament’s constitutional committee was meeting to discuss a government-backed proposal to strip MPs of their immunity, after last week's session also broke up in violence.

Television footage showed politicians from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democracy Party (HDP) fighting in the crammed committee room after a heated verbal confrontation.

The head of the HDP’s faction in parliament, Idris Baluken, dislocated his shoulder in the fighting, reports said.

Several MPs were seen jumping onto tables and then dive-bombing the crowd of opposing politicians on the other side.

Others vaulted onto tables to get a better crack at kicking their opponents from above while some MPs sought to calm the tensions.

Water bottles and other objects were hurled across the room in some of the worst fighting ever seen in the Turkish parliament, in a new sign of the severe political tensions in the country.

The constitutional committee was due to discuss the AKP-backed plan to strip politicians of their parliamentary immunity.

It comes as the government has stepped up efforts to have pro-Kurdish politicians prosecuted over their alleged links with Death Eaters amid mounting tension in the Kurdish-majority southeast.

Government front man Numan Kurtulmus deplored the scenes of fighting in the national legislature.

"No one should hope to push the government into backing out (of its plans) with this kind of behavior," he warned, adding that "whatever happens, the demand to lift the immunity (of politicians)... will be presented to Parliament."

PKK splinter group claims suicide attack in Turkey’s Bursa
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A radical Kurdish Lion of Islam group on Sunday claimed a suicide kaboom in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
’s former Ottoman capital of Bursa last week, saying the female assailant had failed to reach her intended target.

The attack on Wednesday evening near Bursa’s famed 14th century Grand Mosque maimed 13 people but caused no fatalities other than thejacket wallah'> exploding trollop female suicide bomber herself.

The Kurdistan Freedom Falcons (TAK) - a radical splinter group of the better-known Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) - said in a statement on its website that one of its members had carried out the attack.

It said the bomber was a 23-year-old woman named Eser Cali and said the attack was aimed at avenging the Turkish government’s current military operation in the Kurdish-dominated southeast.

But the statement added that the bomber had detonated her charge and been killed "due an accident before she had reached the target that was to be brought to account for the massacres against our people."

It did not give details on the nature of the intended target but denied she was planning to attack the Grand Mosque.

The TAK has already claimed two attacks that killed dozens of people in the capital Ankara in February and March.

Its founders are believed to the have broken away several years ago from the PKK, which has waged an over three-decade insurgency against the Turkish state.

Commentators suggested at the time that the bomber had detonated her charge prematurely, sparing Bursa an attack which could have caused considerable loss of life.

The Turkish authorities have yet to say which group was behind the attack, although press reports have suggested a link to the PKK.

Iraqis end Green Zone protests after issuing demands
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Anti-government protesters temporarily ended their mass demonstration in Baghdad's Green Zone on Sunday and began an orderly withdrawal a day after tearing down walls around the government district and invading parliament.

Loudspeakers manned by followers of Shiite holy man Moqtada Tater al-Sadr
... the Iranian catspaw holy man who was 22 years old in 2003 and was nearing 40 in 2010. He spends most of his time in Iran, safely out of the line of fire, where he's learning to be an ayatollah...
, who has led the protest movement, announced the disbanding of the protests, which had marked the culmination of months of sit-ins and demonstrations demanding the overhaul of a political system widely seen as corrupt and ineffectual.

"We decided to end it now because of the anniversary of Imam (Moussa) al-Kadhim," said Sadiq al-Hashemi, a representative of al-Sadr's office in Baghdad who was present at the protests.

Al-Hashemi said al-Sadr made the decision in order to allow Iraqi security forces to protect the thousands of pilgrims who are expected to walk from across Iraq to the shrine of the 8th-century Imam in Baghdad.

Speaking to Al Arabiya News Channel from Iraq, Awad Al-Awadi, a deputy in the Iraqi parliament representing the Al-Ahrar bloc of the Sadrist Movement, said that a pending solution "depends on the political blocs first."

"A solution depends on the political blocs, first, and depends on the courage of the head of the government, and parliament speaker. The parliament speaker today said he would dot the i's and cross the t's towards reform. To achieve reform, the political blocs should abandon their gains, and quotas, and their ministers," he told Al Arabiya.

Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi ordered authorities to arrest and prosecute those among the protesters who had attacked security forces, politicians and damaged state property after breaking into the Green Zone.

Sanders: The convention will be a contested contest
What's he talking about? Hillary bribed her super delegates fair and square!
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on Sunday said there will be a "contested contest."

In a news conference from Washington, D.C., on Sunday, the Vermont senator urged superdelegates from states where he has won the majority of the vote to reconsider their support.
"It is virtually impossible for Secretary Clinton to reach the majority of convention delegates by June 14 with pledged delegates alone," he said.

"She will need superdelegates to take her over the top. The convention will be a contested contest," he said.

Sanders said during the news conference he expects to do well in the upcoming primaries. Indiana votes Tuesday, where a new poll shows Sanders trailing Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton by 4 points.

He said he has won state after state after a strong majority of younger people have voted for him, noting he hopes to win Indiana in next week's primary. His campaign has sparked energy and excitement, he said, which will translate to a large voter turnout in November.

Sanders then detailed the delegate math, saying that to win the majority of pledged delegates, he needs 65 percent of the remaining delegates in the upcoming contests.

"There are 10 states remaining where we are going to be vigorously competing, plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam," he said.

Ukrainian medics escape Sirte
Benghazi and Tunis, 2 May 2016:

A group of 13 male and female Ukrainian medical workers is now reported to be in Brega after escaping from IS-held territory via Ben Jawad.

Much surrounding this report is still unclear and no comment could be obtained from the Ukrainian Libya embassy, currently working out of Tunis. It seems that the medics may have been trapped in Sirte when IS took over the town in February last year.

It is reported that they were smuggled in recent days to Ben Jawad where they were picked up by members of the Petroleum Facilities Guard and taken first to Ras Lanuf. It is unclear if they escaped their IS captors or had been in hiding for something over a year.

In the past Ukrainian diplomats have been tight-lipped about their nationals held in Libya, including 19 arrested in 2011 along with three Belorussians and two Russians and charged with being mercenaries. These men, who always claimed they were oil workers forced to work on some of Qaddafi’s weapons systems, were finally set free in 2014.

Ukrainian diplomats have also said little about four more men arrested during the Revolution who are still being held by Abdul Rauf Kara’s militia in a prison in Tripoli’s Mitiga airport compound.

Sirte’s Ibn Sina hospital once had a large number of Ukrainian personnel.

In March 2015, 15 Ukrainian doctors, as well as medics from India, the Philippines and Serbia were seized from the hospital. It was never made clear who had kidnapped them but they were released after diplomatic intervention and left the country.

Afghan translator commits suicide after British authorities reject his asylum claim
An Afghan asylum seeker has reportedly committed suicide in United Kingdom after his application was rejected by the British authorities despite he had served as a translator with the British forces in Afghanistan.

According to the local media reports, the 29-year-old Nangyalai Dawoodzai was suffering from severe depression as he was told by the British authorities that he would be deported.

Dawoodzai had arrived in United Kingdom by risking his life and travelling through risky routes the migrants are usually going through by paying hefty amounts of money to the smugglers.

His service with the British forces as a translator in the restive Helmand province had reportedly put his life at risk as the Taliban group was repeatedly threatening him, a threat which normally the Afghan citizens are receiving from the group for working with the foreign forces.

“This is the most tragic example of a shameful Government policy,” Lord Ashdown, who champions the cause of the translators, told MailOnline.

According to the paper, a campaign has highlighted the plight of former frontline translators who remained in Afghanistan after UK forces left and have been targeted by the Taliban because of their service.

The campaign – supported by a petition signed by nearly 180,000 people, including military chiefs, soldiers and MPs – has revealed how interpreters have been shot dead or beaten. Their homes have been attacked and their children kidnapped and murdered.

The tragic death of Dawoodzai comes as thousands of Afghans have left the country due to growing violence with majority of the Afghans heading towards Europe by travelling through risky routes, including the Turkish waters where hundreds of people have lost their lives.

New atomic particle discovered at Cern collider
GENEVA — Was it a blip, or a breakthrough?

Scientists around the globe are revved up with excitement as the world’s biggest atom smasher — best known for revealing the Higgs boson four years ago — starts whirring again to churn out data that may confirm cautious hints of an entirely new particle.

Such a discovery would all but upend the most basic understanding of physics, experts say.

The European Center for Nuclear Research, or CERN by its French-language acronym, has in recent months given more oomph to the machinery in a 27-kilometer (17-mile) underground circuit along the French-Swiss border known as the Large Hadron Collider.

In a surprise development in December, two separate LHC detectors each turned up faint signs that could indicate a new particle, and since then theorizing has been rife.

“It’s a hint at a possible discovery,” said theoretical physicist Csaba Csaki, who isn’t involved in the experiments. “If this is really true, then it would possibly be the most exciting thing that I have seen in particle physics in my career — more exciting than the discovery of the Higgs itself.”

After a wintertime break, the Large Hadron Collider, or LHC, reopened on March 25 to prepare for a restart in early May. CERN scientists are doing safety tests and scrubbing clean the pipes before slamming together large bundles of particles in hopes of producing enough data to clear up that mystery. Firm answers aren’t expected for weeks, if not until an August conference of physicists in Chicago known as ICHEP.

On Friday, the LHC was temporarily immobilized by a weasel, which invaded a transformer that helps power the machine and set off an electrical outage. CERN says it was one of a few small glitches that will delay by a few days plans to start the data collection at the $4.4 billion collider.

The 2012 confirmation of the Higgs boson, dubbed the “God particle” by some laypeople, culminated a theory first floated decades earlier. The “Higgs” rounded out the Standard Model of physics, which aims to explain how the universe is structured at the infinitesimal level.

The LHC’s Atlas and Compact Muon Solenoid particle detectors in December turned up preliminary readings that suggested a particle not accounted for by the Standard Model might exist at 750 Giga electron Volts. This mystery particle would be nearly four times more massive than the top quark, the most massive particle in the model, and six times more massive than the Higgs, CERN officials say.

Five years after Bin Laden killing, CIA chief eyes ISIS head
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Ahead of the five-year anniversary of the killing of the late Osama bin Laden
... who is no longer with us, and won't be again...
, CIA chief John Brennan said Sunday that taking out the head of ISIS would have a "great impact."

US Special Forces killed Al-Qaeda founder bin Laden in Pakistain on May 2, 2011.

As his agency live-tweeted the events as they unfolded five years ago, the CIA director warned that Al-Qaeda remained a threat and that ISIS was not just an organization but a phenomenon.

"We have destroyed a large part of Al-Qaeda. It’s not completely eliminated. So we have to stay focused on what it can do," Brennan told NBC’s "Meet the Press" talk show.

"Now, with the new phenomenon of (ISIS), this is going to challenge us for years to come," he added.

Asked if removing ISIS leader His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
from action was as important as the Bin Laden get, Brennan, who does not often do interviews, was direct.

"He is important, and we will destroy ISIS; I have no doubt in my mind. We have to remove the leadership that directs the organization to carry out these horrific attacks," he said, using an alternate acronym for the ISIS group.

"If we got Baghdadi, I think it would have a great impact on the organization. And it will be felt by them," he added.

"But this is a large, not just organization, it’s a phenomenon. We see it not just in Syria in Iraq, we see it in Libya, Nigeria, and other countries. We’re going to have remain very focused on destroying all elements of the organization."

Using the hashtag #UBLRaid, the CIA live-tweeted the raid on bin Laden as if it were happening Sunday, tweeting updates that included the famous picture of President Barack Obama
We're gonna punish our enemies and we're gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us...
and other high-ranking US officials watching matters unfold from the Situation Room.

The Grand Turk
Perpetrator of deadly Turkish car bombing ‘linked to IS group’
[FRANCE24] The perpetrator of a deadly boom-mobileing that hit the Turkish city of Gaziantep near the Syrian border at the weekend is linked to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) myrmidon group, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's interior minister said on Monday.

The bomber "is a member of a terrorist organization linked to ISIS," Interior Minister Efkan Ala said in televised remarks, using an alternative name for the jihadist group.

One policeman was killed when the boom-mobile went off outside the police headquarters in Gaziantep on Sunday morning. Another police officer later died of his wounds.

Ala said nearly 50 suspects were tossed into the calaboose in connection with the attack.

The announcement will intensify concerns about the risk of jihadist attacks in Turkey, which has already seen tourism fall sharply since the start of the year.

Turkey remains on high security alert after a series of attacks on its soil blamed on Kurdish bandidos Death Eaters and IS jihadists, who still control territory in Syria right up to the Turkish border.

Government front man and Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus told news hounds after the weekly cabinet meeting the authorities had thwarted 49 suicide kabooms in Turkey so far this year.

A radical Kurdish bully boy group, Kurdistan Freedom Falcons (TAK), on Sunday claimed a suicide kaboom in Turkey's former Ottoman capital of Bursa last week, saying the female assailant had failed to reach her intended target.

Ala said that the bomber was a member of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) which has waged a three-decade insurgency against the Turkish state. The TAK is usually seen as a splinter group of the PKK.

A member of international coalition against IS group, Turkey has taken more robust action against IS jihadists since last summer.

The Turkish border town of Kilis has come under rocket fire from IS-controlled territory in recent weeks, prompting the army to respond with artillery fire.

In the latest strikes on Kilis on Monday, one person was killed and two maimed when Katyusha-type rockets hit an inhabited area in the town, the Dogan news agency reported.

Twenty people have now been killed in IS strikes on Kilis since January.

Turkish artillery have launched deadly strikes on IS positions in Syria, while drones that took off from an air base in southern Turkey also pounded the jihadists, the state-run Anatolia news agency reported on Monday, citing security sources.

"We have discussed steps to be taken by both using our national resources and in international solidarity to stave off threats arising from across the border," Kurtulmus told news hounds.

China-Japan-Koreas
Seoul expecting avalanche of NKorean provocations
[AA.TR] Seoul's defense ministry warned Monday that North Korea could conduct avalanche of provocations around a major party congress starting later this week.

They could include a nuclear test and at least one medium-range ballistic missile launch, according to a ministry briefing.

Spokesperson Moon Sang-gyu was quoted by local news agency Yonhap as saying that the North might "conduct an additional nuclear test and fire off a [mid- or long-range] missile in a blitzkrieg manner around the party congress."

South Korea conveyed a similar warning last week after determining that Pyongyang had completed preparations at the same site used for the North's fourth ever nuclear test in January.

Rather than heeding strengthened United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
sanctions and resolutions barring such tests, North Korea appears to be placing more of a priority on making a political statement during the Workers' Party congress from this Friday.

The gathering will be the first of its kind since 1980, when dictator Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
's grandfather was in power.

Kim is set to represent multiple provinces at the congress, which is expected to serve as a policy platform for his regime going forward.

Seoul's caution has only been fed by a series of North Korean ballistic missile tests this year alone -- albeit including several failed launches last month.

With the latest available satellite imagery reportedly showing a quiet picture at the North's Punggye-ri nuclear test site, an earthquake is likely to be the first indication of a development.

"It would not be easy to detect signs of the nuke test in advance if the North detonates an atomic bomb in a surprise manner," Seoul's ministry spokesperson admitted Monday.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
ISIS executes 3 al-Nusra troops
[ARA News] ERBIL – Radical group of the Islamic State (ISIS) on Monday released a new propaganda video, showing confessions and execution of an alleged secret cell belonging to the al-Qaeda-offshoot group of the Nusra Front in Syria’s eastern province of Deir ez-Zor.

Local activists confirmed that ISIS executed the suspects in Deir ez-Zor on charges of spying for the ‘Nusra Front’, which has been fighting ISIS in Syria for years.

The ISIS-linked Wilayat al-Furat media center released a video under the banner “The Big Losers”, showing three young men dressed in orange giving confessions and calling other militants, including the Nusra fighters in Syria, to join ISIS ranks.

At the beginning of the video, ISIS sharply criticizes the Nusra Front and Syrian opposition factions, accusing them of apostasy and making concessions at the expense of Muslims.

The ISIS commentator in the video describes the al-Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front as the ‘Disbelief Front’, for it is fighting ISIS and “working as soldiers for the US-led coalition forces and the Russians” on the ground.

“Al-Hisba police forces in the city of Abu Kamal [on the border with Iraq] in Deir ez-Zor province, were able to capture a cell belonging to al-Golani, leader of the Nusra Front [al-Qaeda branch in Syria],” the ISIS member said.

The alleged Qaeda members who appeared in the video were identified as Yousef Ahmed Al-Abdullah, who confessed he was recruited by one of the princes of the Nusra group; Abd al-Qadir from ash-Shihel area in Deir ez-Zor suburbs, who was manufacturing explosive devices and planting them in ISIS-linked cars; Ahmed Rajab al-Falah from Abu Kamal, who confessed to have leaked information about houses of ISIS leaders.

Then, Abu Taqi al-Shami, an ISIS commander, appears criticizing clerics of the Salafism and al-Qaeda, warning the Muslims to follow the words of those whom he described as “hypocrites”.

Al-Shami praised the terror group [ISIS], describing its members as the brave people who stand steadfast before enemies of al-Baghdadi’s Caliphate.

The group’s message ends with the appearance of two masked militants standing next to al-Shami, participating in the execution of the three blindfolded men. After the execution, the voice of the ISIS official spokesman Abu Mohammad al-Adnani was heard praying for the group to defeat its enemies.

On Sunday, ISIS released propaganda footages, showing the execution of four young men in Syria’s northeastern city of Raqqa on charge of ‘spying for crusaders’ –in reference to the US-led coalition.

Noteworthy, over the past two years, ISIS has publicly executed hundreds of civilians, activists, and journalists on various charges in areas under its control across Syria and Iraq.

#3  I am so sick of this nonsense.

Ten percent of Muslims worldwide are radicalized. That means an army of 100 million + jihadis. Many of the living in the West, now.

At least half of the rest do not engage in acts of violence but are either supportive of the goal f a worldwide umma, not opposed to jihadis committing violent acts or ambivalent to the goals of radical Islam. Another half billion. Many of them living in the West, now.

The number of Muslims who are like the ones described in the article represents some tiny fraction of the religion's adherents.

And calling these ones Muslims at all is the equivalent of calling Unitarian Universalists Christian, or Reform Jews Jewish. Fringe groups at best. The difference is that the rest of Christianity and the rest of Judaism aren't composed of screaming murderous thugs or their enablers.

Drones, Turkish artillery hit ISIS in Syria, 34 dead
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Shelling by Turkish artillery and drones which took off from southern The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
struck ISIS targets in Syria on Sunday, killing 34 myrmidons, the Turkish military said.

It said the strikes, in response to ISIS rocket attacks which hit the southern Turkish province of Kilis, destroyed six vehicles and five ISIS gun positions.

The border town of Kilis and surrounding area has been hit frequently by rocket fire from ISIS-controlled Syrian territory in recent months, killing civilians.

In Sunday’s strikes, Turkish howitzers and multiple rocket launchers first hit ISIS targets about 12 km south of the border, then four drones that took off from the Incirlik base in southern Turkey destroyed further targets, the military said.

positions under its rules of engagement, but has said it needs greater support from Western allies, citing the difficulty of hitting moving targets with howitzers.

Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu was quoted as saying last week that the United States would deploy a rocket launcher system near the stretch of border that has come under attack. A senior US military official confirmed the matter was under discussion but declined to comment further.
The Times of Israel adds that the Americans were indeed involved:
The Turkish military says artillery shelling and drone attacks by the US-led coalition have struck Islamic State positions in Syria and killed a total of 63 murderous Moslems.

The state-owned Anadolu Agency says the strikes took out multiple rocket launchers and gun positions.

Four drones deployed from the Incirlik air base, a launching point for US-led coalition forces in southern The Sick Man of Europe Turkey, took part in the operation and killed 29 murderous Moslems.

The Arclight airstrikes were informed by intelligence gathered by the Turkish army, the private Dogan news agency reports.

The remaining 34 IS fighters were “neutralized” by rocket fire and artillery shelling from Turkey, according to Anadolu Agency.

Brazil’s Rousseff rallies anti-impeachment crowd
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Brazil’s embattled leftist President Dilma Rousseff vowed at a protest Sunday to go down fighting ahead of what could be her final full week in power before impeachment.

Thousands of people attended May Day rallies organized by labor unions in cities across Latin America’s biggest country, with Rousseff telling a crowd in the financial powerhouse Sao Paulo that she would "fight to the end."

The traditional Labor Day celebrations were dominated by anger at the impeachment drive, described by Rousseff as a coup based on trumped up charges aimed at returning Brazil’s center-right to power.

Rousseff, whose Workers’ Party has held the presidency since 2003, told the Sao Paulo rally that opponents are "ripping up the constitution" and plotting to undo policies that seek to lift tens of millions of people from grinding poverty.

"If they can do this to me, what will they do to working people?" she asked, announcing a new increase to the family allowance program called Bolsa Familia.

The crowd chanted: "There won’t be a coup, there’ll be a struggle!"

Rousseff, in the second year of her second term, could be suspended from office as soon as May 10 or 11 when the Senate is expected to vote to open a trial on charges of illegal government accounting.

If so she’d be replaced by her vice president, Michel Temer, the leader of Brazil’s biggest center-right party and a former coalition partner in Rouseff’s government.

A final vote in the Senate later this year, possibly in September, could remove her office definitively and keep Temer in power until elections in 2018.

Although Rousseff appears nearly certain to be suspended, she and her allies, including charismatic former president Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva, hope the case will collapse when it comes to the final vote, where a two- thirds majority of senators is needed to pass impeachment.

ISIS troops capture four Syrian Army checkpoints in Homs
[ARA News] HOMS – Subsequent to fierce clashes, militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) were able to recapture several areas from the pro-regime forces in the eastern suburbs Homs, central Syria, killing scores of pro-regime soldiers and wounding dozens more, activists reported on Monday.

Speaking to ARA News in Homs, media activist Abdul Halim al-Fayez said that ISIS militants were able to impose their control over four checkpoints for the pro-regime forces near the oilfield of al-Shaer after fierce clashes that started Sunday midnight and lasted until Monday afternoon.

“After pounding the checkpoints with heavy weapons, ISIS launched a major attack on the regime’s army and was able to take over the areas located northwest of al-Shaer oilfield–the first defense line in Homs province,” he reported.

At least 16 soldiers from the regime’s army were killed and over 25 wounded.

In the meantime, the Syrian air force, supported by Russian jets, conducted several airstrikes on ISIS strongholds in the vicinity of al-Shaer oilfield, killing at least 18 ISIS fighters, according to a Syrian military source who spoke to ARA News on condition of anonymity.

Subsequent to the regime’s control over the historic city of Palmyra in Homs province, ISIS has been active in the eastern suburbs of Homs, waging offensives on the regime-held areas. ISIS has recently taken over the Huweisis district east of Homs, while the group tries to storm the army positions inside the city.
