Nunes: Mueller report 'cherry-picked' information about mysterious Maltese Professor Mifsud
[FOX] House Intelligence Committee ranking member Devin Nunes, in a Fox News interview Sunday, blasted "cherry-picked" findings in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report about Joseph Mifsud -- the mysterious professor from Malta who helped ignite the Russia probe in 2016.

The California Republican previously said he wanted to know exactly who was employing Mifsud when he spoke with George Papadopoulos, a former adviser to then-candidate Donald Trump.

"If the FBI does in fact have transcripts of Papadopoulos talking to anyone ... I think Congress, and the American people, have a right to know this because in fact we paid for it, and we had to deal with this for two and a half years. We had to suffer through this," he told Maria Bartiromo on "Sunday Morning Futures."

Mifsud largely has vanished from public eye after his name began surfacing in news stories.
"Vanished" as in Seth Rich vanished, or simply on holiday somewhere ?
Last week, Nunes sent a letter addressed to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, CIA Director Gina Haspel, National Security Agency Director Paul Nakasone and FBI Director Chris Wray. It asks them to hand over all information they had on Mifsud by May 10.

#2  An Italian newspaper has revealed that Joseph Mifsud, the mysterious Maltese professor who vanished from the public eye in late 2017, was hiding out last year in a rented flat in Rome for several months while being sought by an Italian court -- and it was paid for by “Link International,” a company co-owned by Link Campus University.

"Mifsud lived in an apartment in Rome, in Via Cimarosa 3, owned by a Greek diplomat, and the rent was paid by Link Campus," Il Foglio reported.

G-Pap's wife, Simona Mangiante Papadopoulos tweeted about the story on Thursday:

Mifsud was hiding in Roma - precisely in “Via Cimarosa n. 3” right next to the American Embassy in Rome

Britain
Met Police Chief: Return of Stop and Search Helped Cut London Crime
[Breitbart] The Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Cressida Dick, has said that the return of ’stop and search’ has helped cut crime dramatically in London.

Speaking of the statistics, Ms Dick said that the murder rate had fallen by a quarter over the past year with a 15 per cent reduction in the number of under 25s being stabbed, in comments reported by The Times.

The Commissioner said that "having officers in an area where there is intelligence is a very important tactic and has absolutely led to a fall in violence. My key metric has always been injury to under-25s, especially on the street, and we have 15 per cent less, 311 less (sic) young people stabbed".

She went on to describe the tactic of stop and search ‐ which is used by police if they have ’reasonable grounds’ to suspect a person is carrying drugs, stolen property, or a weapon ‐ as being "very effective" and said it was "suppressing the violence", the tactic not only taking drugs and knives off the streets but acting as a deterrent to carrying weapons, as well.

Trump-era economy: A rising tide is lifting all boats
[Washington Examiner] The central theme of Democratic campaigns this year is that American capitalism doesn’t work for the working man, and so we need to replace it, or at least dramatically reshape our economy. These folks should take a look at the economic numbers that have come out in the past few days.

For starters, the headline numbers are amazing. Employers added 263,000 jobs in April, helping bring unemployment down to 3.7%, the lowest number in 50 years. Wages increased by an average of 3.2%.

These great topline numbers are not enough, though, to refute the naysayers and the revolutionaries. Since March 2009 (the bottom of the financial crisis), while the stock market has steadily risen and the economy has steadily grown, not everybody has seen this growth. The working class has mostly seen stagnation. The highest-educated counties have experienced basically all of the growth, leaving most of Middle America in decline.

Over 80 percent of Somali migrants are on welfare In Switzerland
[VOE] New data was gathered and released by both the Federal Statistical Office and the State Secretariat for Migration and shows that the 4,000 or so Somalis in Switzerland are by far the most prone to being on government benefits with 83.7 percent relying on state income, Breitbart reports.

While Somalis are by far and wide the largest recipients of welfare, several other nationalities also have rates of over 50 percent, such as Eritreans at 54.7 percent and Angolans at 54 per cent.

The statistics greatly contrast with the number of Swiss nationals on welfare, at a mere 2.3 percent of the population ‐ although Japanese nationals were the lowest of all at only 0.6 per cent.

Damian Muller of the Swiss Liberals (FDP) said that the figures show that both far too many asylum seekers not qualified for asylum were living on state handouts and that not enough was being done to integrate those with refugee status into the Swiss economy.

"Integration is not a one-way street", he insisted, adding, "refugees are [also]responsible."

Backer Gobdon of the Somali Diaspora association attributed some of the blame for the high rates of welfare in the Somali community to the average family size, saying, “For example, they work in the hospitality industry, where wages are low. A family that has seven children, for example, cannot live on it.”
Science has come up with an answer to that problem ahead of actuality. The Democrats have a more traditional one for after the fact.

Maine's New Governor Vetoes Bill Limiting Corn Gas Blending
[Hot Air] Maine was one of the states the Democrats managed to flip in terms of the Governor’s Mansion and they also control the state legislature. Paul LePage was replaced by Janet Mills in January, and now she’s broken out the veto pen for the first time. She shot down (for now) a bill that would have restricted ethanol blending in gasoline to the current 10% level, forbidding the sale of E-15 or higher. This has been a goal of some Republicans in the state for several years now and with good reason. But for the moment, it’s hanging on the brink of defeat. (Bangor Daily News)

Buttigieg, husband attend Jimmy Carter's Sunday school class
[Politico] PLAINS, Ga. ‐ Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg and his husband, Chasten, joined the large crowd at former President Jimmy Carter’s Sunday school class in rural South Georgia.

At Carter’s invitation Buttigieg stood and read from the Bible as part of the lesson at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains.

"You know him?" Carter had said earlier in reference to Buttigieg, drawing a laugh from the crowd.

Carter told the audience that two other Democratic presidential candidates, Sens. Cory Booker of New Jersey and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, had previously attended his classes.

The South Bend, Indiana, mayor later tweeted: "I was humbled to meet with President Carter in Plains, Georgia today. He is a true public servant and America is blessed for his continuing leadership." The Buttigieg campaign said in a statement that he had lunch with Carter and his wife, Rosalyn, and "enjoyed a conversation about topics ranging from faith to the rigors of the campaign trail."

Russian investigators say plane crash death toll rises to 41
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Russian authorities said late on Sunday that 41 people died when a Sukhoi Superjet 100 crash-landed at Moscow Sheremetyevo airport.

"There were 78 people on board, including crew members," the Russian Investigative Committee said in a statement on its website.

"According to updated information, 37 out of them survived."

Earlier on Sunday, the Sherlocks said 13 people had been killed in the plane crash.

Television footage showed the Sukhoi Superjet-100 making an emergency landing at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport with much of the rear part of the plane engulfed in flames.

Many passengers then escaped via the plane’s emergency slides that inflated after the hard landing.

Russian news agencies said the plane had been flying from Moscow to the northern Russian city of Murmansk before turning back.

Russian Sherlocks said they had opened an investigation and were looking into whether the pilots had breached air safety rules.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Air strikes shut two hospitals in Syria’s Idlib
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Air strikes by Syrian government ally Russia on Sunday forced the closure of two hospitals in the Syrian province of Idlib, a war monitor said.

It came on a day that eight non-combatants were killed in bombardment by the regime and Russia across the northwestern province, said the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Idlib and other adjacent territories of Syria held by Death Eaters have faced intensifying bombardment in the past month.

On Sunday air strikes hit a hospital in Kafranbel and another located underground on the outskirts of Hass.

The raids were blamed on Russia by the Observatory. An AFP cameraman filmed the two facilities hit by strikes.

"The hospital in Kafranbel is out of order. The patients were transferred to other facilities in the region," Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP, adding one civilian was killed.

In Hass, air strikes blamed on Russia halted services at an underground hospital, said Syria Relief and Development, a non-governmental organization that runs the facility.

The facility had been evacuated shortly before the bombardments, he said, thanks to alerts from a warning system set up to analyze the flight paths of warplanes.

The 205th Atal Corps in a statement said Afghan armed forces clashed with the Talibs in Shenkai, Arghandab, and Daichupan districts of Zabul province leaving at least 17 Death Eaters dead.

The statement further added at least 20 Talibs also sustained injuries during the same festivities.

The Afghan military has not disclosed further information regarding the possible casualies of the armed forces as a result of the festivities.

The anti-government armed Death Eaters including Taliban

Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka town under curfew after religious violence
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A city near Sri Lanka’s capital was placed under curfew by police Sunday, following festivities between Moslem and Christian mobs two weeks after suicide kabooms left 257 people dead.

A senior police officer said the restrictions were imposed to prevent an escalation of violence after attacks occurred in Negombo - north of Colombo - where over 100 people died in a church bombing.

"About two cycle of violences and a three-wheel taxi had been damaged in the festivities," the police officer told AFP.

"We declared a curfew till 7.00 am (0130 GMT) to contain the unrest," he added.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

The country’s main international airport is located in the area, but police said there was no disruption to airport traffic.

The officer said an investigation was underway into the festivities, the first violence between Moslems and Christians since the Easter Sunday attacks targeting three churches and three luxury hotels in the country.

#1  yes blacklisting terrorists will increase the number of blacklisted terrorists.
instead we should give them money for being terrorists. that is what these "experts" recommend.
that will increase terrorism and hence the importance of these experts.

Sri Lanka
200 Muslim clerics among 600 foreigners expelled by Sri Lanka for 'overstay'
[DAWN] Sri Lanka expelled over 600 foreign nationals, including around 200 Moslem holy mans, since the Easter suicide kabooms blamed on a local murderous Moslem group, a minister told AFP on Sunday.

Home Affairs Minister Vajira Abeywardena said the holy mans had entered the country legally, but amid a security crackdown after the attacks, were found to have overstayed their visas, for which fines were imposed and they were expelled from the island.

"Considering the current situation in the country, we have reviewed the visas system and took a decision to tighten visa restrictions for religious teachers," Abeywardena said.

"Out of those who were sent out, about 200 were Islamic preachers."

The Easter Sunday bombings that killed 257 people and maimed nearly 500 were led by a local holy man who is known to have travelled to neighbouring India and had made contact with turbans there.

The minister did not give the nationalities of those who have been expelled, but police have said many foreigners who have overstayed their visas since the Easter attacks were from Bangladesh, India, Maldives and Pakistain.

"There are religious institutions which have been getting down foreign preachers for decades," Abeywardena said.

"We have no issues with them, but there are some which mushroomed recently. We will pay more attention to them."

The minister said the government was overhauling the country's visa policy following fears that foreign holy mans could radicalise locals for a repeat of the April 21 suicide kabooms, which targeted three Christian churches and three luxury hotels.

Sri Lanka has imposed a state of emergency since the attacks and given wide powers to troops and police to arrest and detain suspects for long periods.

Japan not taking in refugees; says it must look after its citizens first

"I would say that before accepting immigrants or refugees we need to have more activities by women, by elderly people and we must raise (the) birth rate. There are many things that we should do before accepting immigrants"

— Prime Minister Shinzo Abe
[FOXNEWS] Japan's prime minister said Tuesday that his nation needs to attend to its own demographic challenges posed by falling birth rates and an aging population before opening its doors to refugees.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced at the U.N. General Assembly that Japan is ramping up assistance in response to the exodus of refugees to Europe from the Middle East and Africa.

He said Japan will provide $1.5 billion in emergency aid for refugees and for stabilization of communities facing upheaval. But speaking to reporters later Tuesday he poured cold water on the idea of Japan opening its doors to those fleeing.

He said Japan first needed to attend to domestic challenges which he proposes to tackle under a revamped economic policy that aims to boost GDP to a post-war record level, while bolstering the social security system to support families.

"As an issue of demography, I would say that before accepting immigrants or refugees we need to have more activities by women, by elderly people and we must raise (the) birth rate. There are many things that we should do before accepting immigrants," Abe told a news conference, according to the official translation of his comments.

He added that Japan would "discharge our own responsibility" in addressing the refugee crisis, which he described as helping to improve conditions that cause the exodus.

Muslim American Society says 'disturbing' video of children wasn't vetted
[WASHINGTONTIMES] A video showing children speaking in Arabic about sacrifice and chopping off heads wasn’t vetted before being posted on the Facebook page for the Moslem American Society’s Philadelphia chapter, and it does not represent their values, the executive director of the national group said Sunday.
E pur si muove.
Executive Director Ayman Hammous said the Moslem American Society learned of the content of the video after the Middle East Media Research Institute posted a translation Friday. The society issued a statement calling the video "disturbing" and condemning the words used in it.
But obviously it was a kiddy school presentation. What are they teaching at the school? They didn't get that from passing gypsies or hobos.
"It does not represent our understanding of Islam, nor the understanding of the mainstream Moslem community," Hammous said in an interview Sunday.
Whose does it represent then? Obviously the kids'.
In the two-minute video from an April event, two maidens of tender years are shown reading. One says, "We will sacrifice our souls without hesitation, we will chop off their heads" and liberate the al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
Yep. That's pretty much my understanding of Islam.
The amusing thing being that Israel is demonstrating the value of such pledges right now, and apparently will demonstrate it even more obviously in the hours and possibly days to come.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
19 killed in Gaza, four in Israel in Sunday’s escalation, say officials
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Nineteen Paleostinians were killed in the Gazoo Strip and four people were killed in Israel on Sunday, Paleostinian and Israeli authorities said, during the most serious escalation since a 2014 war.

Israel carried out a series of strikes in response to rocket barrages fired from the Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,-run territory.

In total 19 Paleostinians were killed by Israeli strikes in Gazoo on Sunday, the enclave’s health ministry said.

The ministry said among those killed on Sunday were a pregnant woman and a four-month-old baby. The Israeli military declined to comment on the claim.

At least six of those killed were confirmed to be bandidos bully boyz affiliated with the Paleostinian territory’s leaders Hamas or the allied Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
group.

On the Israeli side four non-combatants were killed as Hamas and Islamic Jihad fired barrages of rockets and at least one anti-tank missile from the enclave, Israeli authorities said.

Three of the dead were identified by authorities as Israeli citizens, with the nationality of the fourth not announced.

Israeli targets included internal security headquarters in the Paleostinian enclave, an interior ministry statement said.

Amidror: Iran behind the Gaza escalation
[JPost] "Why did the Islamic Jihad do this?" former national security adviser asks. "The answer is again and again and again - Iran."

Iran, through Islamic Jihad - its proxy in Gaza - is behind the current escalation in the South, former national security advisor Yaakov Amidror said on Sunday.

Amidror, in a conversation with The Israel Project, traced the current round of massive rocket fire on Israel to Friday, when AN Islamic Jihad SNIPER fired on Israeli soldiers patrolling the Gaza border, wounding two officers. Israel responded and killed two Hamas men, and then the rocket barrage began from Gaza.

What made Friday's shooting on the IDF patrol interesting, Amidror said, was that it took place precisely when Hamas and Islamic Jihad leaders were in Cairo putting the finishing touches on an agreement drawn up by Egypt that was designed to ease the tension in the South.

But while its leaders were in Cairo, Islamic Jihad fired on the soldiers. At first, the organization tried to deny responsibility for the attack.

"Why did the Islamic Jihad do this?" Amidror asked. "The answer is again and again and again - Iran."

Islamic Jihad, unlike Hamas, is a completely owned and operated Iranian subsidiary, Amidror said. "It was established by Iran, financed by Iran, and does what Iran wants it to do."

Iran's interest, Amidror said, is for Israel to embark on another major operation in Gaza, freeing up Tehran to do what it wants unhindered in Syria. The Iranian idea, he said, is that "Israel will be busy focusing on Gaza and not have enough energy to deal with the building up of an independent war machine in Syria."

Iranian pressure, Amidror hinted, is the only explanation for why Islamic Jihad would fire on an IDF patrol while its leaders were in Cairo talking about an arrangement with Israel.

Hamas, Amidror said, was "dragged" into the current escalation by Islamic Jihad. He added that whatever is agreed upon in Cairo -whatever arrangements are reached regarding fishing rights, the economy and the transfer of Qatari funds - "at the end of the day, it will be destroyed by Islamic Jihad if Hamas does not take control and do what it should as an organization that is in control of the Gaza Strip."

#1  Carrier groups cost a lot to protect water ways from Chinese expansionism
Tarriffs on them are the best way to fund this.
Do to relative land values in the countries I'd guess a certain tariff in the region of at least 15% is valid. adding 10% to pay for protecting shipping seems reasonable.

'Moon not sighted, Ramazan to begin from Tuesday'
[DAWN] Chairman Ruet-i-Hilal Committee Mufti Muneebur Rehman has announced that the moon for the month of Ramazan was not sighted on Sunday, and that the holy month will begin from Tuesday.

"No acceptable and Shariah-compliant testimonies of moon sighting were received from any part of Pakistan," said Rehman. "Therefore, it was decided that moon was not sighted today and first Ramazan will be on Tuesday, May 7."
Update from The Times of Israel at 9:50 a.m. EDT:
Muslims in Southeast Asian countries like Indonesia and Malaysia, and much of the Middle East, including Egypt, Iraq and Saudi Arabia, will fast on Monday for the start of the month of Ramadan.

Millions more, however, in India, Pakistan and Iran, will likely be marking the start of the lunar month on Tuesday based on moon sightings there.

Though of course no true Muslim would fight during the holy month, and therefore non-Muslims are especially forbidden to raise a hand to attack them, even if that “attack” would be judged by an unbiased eye to be self defense.

Israel kills Hamas commander in first targeted strike in years
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Israel killed a Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", commander in the Gazoo Strip on Sunday in what the military described as a targeted strike and Paleostinians said was the first such action since the 2014 war in the Paleostinian enclave.

A military statement said that Hamed Ahmed Abed Khudri had been responsible for transfering funds from Iran to armed factions in Gazoo.

Paleostinian witnesses said he was killed in an air strike on his car.

Earlier on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had ordered the military to keep up "massive strikes" in response to rocket fire from the Gazoo Strip, as an escalation entered its second day.

Gunmen Storm Baghlan Police HQ, 13 Killed
[ToloNews] The police headquarters of Pul-e-Khumri city in the northern Baghlan province faced a complex attack by a group of eight button men at around 12pm on Sunday, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement.

The attack started with a boom-mobile kaboom outside the police headquarters and was followed by at least six hours of gunbattle between the attackers and the murderous Moslems.

The Ministry of Interior said the attackers were equipped with boom jackets and that all of them were killed by the Special Unit of Police.

According to the ministry, the attack left at least 13 coppers dead and 55 others maimed, including 20 civilians.

Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
claimed the responsibility for the attack and claimed that a jacket wallah detonated a humvee full of explosives at the beginning of the attack.

This comes as Taliban members are conducting talks with US negotiators in Doha to find a political settlement for the ongoing war in Afghanistan.
Al Ahram adds:
Interior ministry spokesman Nasrat Rahimi said 13 police officers were killed in the attack, with another 35 wounded.

Eight attackers were also killed, Rahimi said in a statement, adding 20 civilians were wounded.

Faisal Sami, a senator from Baghlan province, put the toll at 12 killed and 60 wounded.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. Strategies being devised to make vaccinations mandatory
[DAWN] On Thursday, the Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services (NHS) called the Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Polio, Babar Bin Atta, for a detailed briefing on the sharp rise in polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
vaccination refusals after the disinformation campaign in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
The committee has sought the briefing as part of its effort to play a greater role in eradicating polio in the country. During it’s session earlier this week, Senator Ayesha Raza Farooq ‐ the focal person on polio under the PML-N, noted that 10 polio cases have already been reported in country halfway through the year.

It should be mandatory to vaccinate children at birth, she suggested, adding that a "polio card should be required for school admissions so people ensure their children are vaccinated".

Senator Farooq added that she had moved The Compulsory Vaccination and Protection of Health Workers Bill 2019, which she had initiated in 2015 and had been passed unanimously in the Senate but lapsed in the National Assembly.

The committee agreed that school admissions should be linked to completing necessary vaccinations, and the aforementioned bill will be approved at its next meeting after incorporating amendments from members or the government. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on NHS Dr Zafar Mirza also endorsed the bill, agreeing that stringent measures are needed to make vaccinations mandatory.

Over 1,000 dead in DR Congo Ebola epidemic
[DAWN] More than 1,000 people have now died of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
, authorities said, as aid workers warned that the highly contagious virus combined with insecurity in the restive region was creating a "deeply worrying situation".

The current outbreak is the second deadliest on record, after an epidemic killed more than 11,300 people in West Africa in 2014-2016.

Efforts to roll back the outbreak of the haemorrhagic fever have been hampered by fighting but also by resistance within communities to preventative measures, care facilities and safe burials. "In total, there have been 1,008 deaths (942 confirmed and 66 probable)," the health ministry said in a daily update late on Friday.

The central African country declared a 10th outbreak of Ebola in 40 years last August centred in the city of Beni in North Kivu province before the virus spread into the neighbouring Ituri region.

The World Health Organisation had initially voiced hope it would be able to contain the outbreak, thanks in part to a new vaccine. But in recent weeks senior WHO officials have conceded that insecurity, scarce financial resources and local politicians turning people against health workers had seriously undermined the containment effort.

War on Tripoli: Second month in with the UN urging for truce
[Libya Observer] Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
's offensive on Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
has entered the second month without any solid achievement, that is the entry to Tripoli, which was scheduled by Haftar in the span of 48 hours.

Clashes between Haftar's forces and the Libyan Army forces under the Presidential Council's government command are still ongoing with the latter taking an offensive stance contrary to the defensive one taken in the first weeks of the attack.

On Sunday, fighting intensified in Tuwaysha, Qasir Benghashir and Zatarna areas, with sources reporting that the Volcano of Rage Operation forces advanced in Qasir Benghashir frontline and would soon be in control of Afiya Hospital and Funduk al-Sharif areas, which are currently under Haftar's forces control.

"Our forces destroyed several military vehicles for Haftar's forces and advanced on Tripoli International Airport frontline ringing in the remaining fighters in south of the airport." Sources from the operation said.

Clashes in al-Zatarna, southern Tajoura, were an exchange of artillery without a remarkable advance from any side.

Air Force of the Libyan Army forces under the Presidential Council's government command carried out 9 Arclight airstrikes on Haftar's forces positions in Gharyan, al-Watiya airbase, Beer al-Alem, and Wadi Rabea, on the other hand, Haftar's warplanes targeted an area near al-Zahraa Brigade without reported casualties, according to the sources.

They added that several fighters from Haftar's forces had been captured, while others had been killed including a prominent big shot in Tuwaysha.

The UNSMIL, meanwhile, called on all parties to commit to an extendable one-week humanitarian truce
..The purposes of a truce are twofold: 1.) bring up more arms, ammunition, and reinforcements; and 2.) get the enemy to relax his vigilance. A truce is not the same thing as a ceasefire, and a ceasefire doesn't mean you have to stop shooting...
, however; no party has so far issued a reply to the UNSMIL's call.

Red on red - Jacobin stabs Venezuela in the front
[Gowans] On the heels of another Washington-backed attempt to engineer a coup d’état in Venezuela, Jacobin, a periodical that bills itself as “a leading voice of the American Left,” has published an assault on the Bolivarian Revolution. Following Oscar Wilde’s quip about enemies stabbing you in the back but friends stabbing you in the front, Jacobin contributor Gabriel Hetland has aimed his dagger thrust squarely from the front, though not before voicing a profusion of friendly bon mots about Leftist solidarity. The University of Albany academic, another agent of imperialism masquerading as a beautiful soul, has done what a long line of Left imperialists has done before him: counselled against supporting those who have organized to overcome their oppression by the Left imperialists’ own governments.

In “Venezuela and the Left,” Hetland draws on a 2016 article he wrote for The Nation, titled “Why Is Venezuela in Crisis?” In that article, the Jacobin contributor points to the near “impossibility of disentangling the ‘internal’ and ‘external’ aspects of the crisis” in Venezuela, noting that “the government has not acted in a vacuum, but in a hostile domestic and international environment.” A reasonable person might agree. The hostile domestic and international environment has structured the viable range of responses available to the Venezuelan government, and we can’t understand or evaluate the government’s actions without taking account of the environment in which it has had to act. One might conclude, then, that Hetland is a reasonable person.

However, no sooner does he acknowledge the near impossibility of disentangling the internal and external aspects of the crisis, than he declares the Gordian knot cut. “To an agonizingly large degree,” he tells us, “Venezuela’s crisis is of the government’s own making.” And thereupon the hostile domestic and international environment vanishes, never again to trouble our thoughts.

Hetland appoints himself as the great docent of the Left, a man with all the answers, able to sort through what he assures us are difficult questions, and to do so in only 1,000 words. He begins his Jacobin article by asking: "How should we respond?" to the crisis in Venezuela (which, let’s remember, was brought about by Washington seeking to topple the Maduro government) after which he proceeds to enumerate a series of "we shoulds," as if he’s a pontiff declaring how the faithful ought to conduct itself. Amusingly, he tells us there are no easy answers, and then quickly furnishes us with some. Easy answer 1. Chavez should have ended Venezuela’s oil dependency. Easy answer 2. Chavez should have ended corruption. Easy answer 3. Chavez should have....And so on. If only Chavez had consulted Hetland, arbiter of difficult questions, the whole crisis could have been averted. Easy answer 4. We should support the angels.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Gaza Twitter Round-up: Hamas and Israel officially choose fight over cease fire...maybe.
Sunday’s Times of Israel liveblog can be found here. Headlineas of midnight EDT Monday:
Despite truce reports all Israeli schools in southern Israel to remain closed.
Update at 9:30 a.m. EDT: Monday’s Times of Israel liveblog can be seen here. Current claimed Palestinian death toll is 31, of which at least 11 where jihadis, while 4 Israelis were killed. Israel hit more than 350 targets. Gaza fired 690 rockets — Iron Dome intercepted 240.

[twitter]

And like the fickle folk now they change their minds. What will it be, come Washington, DC AM?
Not to worry— either Hamasniks or Islamic Jihadis won’t be able to resist shooting off more rockets soon enough. They have about 9,000 remaining in stock, after all. One does wonder if we will discover this was meant to be yet another huge joint pincer attack that the Israelis either disrupted or triggered early — that Islamic Jihad tunnel destroyed on the first day is suggestive — or if this is just the annual Ramadan rambunctiousness.

Whoops that cease fire was without anybody talking to Israel!
lord garth, commenting on another article quoting Palestinian officials claiming a hudna, wrote, “The IDF has not hit a target since about 900pm EDT Sunday and Hamas has not fired a rocket since about then also - about the past 2 hours before this post then have been a de facto truce.” So there’s that.

And hundreds of tanks and D9s come out to play
[Twitter]

Ynet has some statistics as of 9 pm local time:
The Public Security Ministry building, in the Rimal neighborhood of Gazoo City, was destroyed after IAF jets carried out its "knocks on the roof" policy of first dropping dummy bombs, to warn anyone inside to evacuate. The Israeli Air Force also hit other Gazoo targets, including the homes of Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", commanders and military installations.

Three Paleostinians, including two members of the Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
miitary wing, were killed in Israeli strikes Sunday, bringing the number of Paleostinians killed since Friday to at least 13.

More than 650 hundred rockets have been fired at Israel from the Gazoo Strip since Saturday morning, a senior Israel Air Force officer said Sunday. This is far higher than the average of 150 rockets fired each day during the last Gazoo war in 2014, known in Israel as Operation Protective Edge.

"Two hundred rockets were fired at residential areas, with an interception rate above 86 percent," the officer said of Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system, adding that the army was trying to ascertain why ome rockets managed to get through and hit residential areas. "No defense is absolute," he said.

According to the officer, the Israel Air Force had carried out more than 100 missions in Gazoo by late Sunday afternoon.

He added that the IDF is carrying out the instructions of the government and that for every building that they hit or significant strike, Gazoo faceless myrmidons react impulsively, and Israeli forces are prepared for any eventuality, including rockets fired deeper into Israel.

The officer also said that Hamas is trying to target IDF ground forces along the border using drones, but they have so far been thwarted.
From the Times of Israel at 6 am local time Monday:
On Sunday night, the Israeli military said it bombed some 40 "terror targets" in the Gazoo Strip in its latest round of Arclight airstrikes, bringing the IDF’s total number of raids up to 320 in the past two days. The military said it targeted "observation headquarters, underground bunkers, weapons caches, military facilities, launchpads, observation posts and more" in its most recent air raids.

The army said it targeted sites connected to both the Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", terror group, which rules Gazoo, and the Iran-backed Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
. Paleostinian medical officials reported 29 dead since Friday, including at least 11 terrorists, The Times of Israel confirmed.

Green (D): If We Don’t Impeach Trump, ‘He Will Get Re-Elected’
[FREEBEACON] Rep. Al Green (D., Texas) said on Saturday that if Democrats don't begin impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
, "he will get re-elected."
And if you do, he'll get re-elected.
Green, who has called for Trump's removal from office since 2017 and introduced articles of impeachment that year, told MSNBC that he dismissed the idea that impeaching Trump could help him politically.

"I'm concerned if we don't impeach this president, he will get re-elected. If we don't impeach him, he will say he's been vindicated," Green said. "He will say the Democrats had an overwhelming majority in the House and they didn't take up impeachment. He will say that we had a constitutional duty to do it if it was there, and we didn't. He will say he's been vindicated."

Green added he and fellow House Democrats face a constitutional crisis on the question of impeachment.

Dems see GOP effort to drive them to impeach Trump

Haftar's forces kidnap two journalists working for Libya Al-Ahrar TV
[Libya Observer] Libya al-Ahrar TV Channel said two of its journalists were kidnapped by an gang loyal to Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. Guess you can't win them all...
as they were covering the ongoing war in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
The channel urged for the immediate release of the two journalists Mohammed al-Qurij and Mohammed al-Shebani, reminding the kidnappers that detaining journalists is liable to local and international legal actions.

The channel also said it had started taking the necessary measures as per the local and international standards to secure the release of the journalists.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pond, Gloria slowly backed away from the eight-foot bull frog. If the creature croaked she would surely be deafened...
the UNSMIL said journalists in Libya are facing threats and assaults as they pursue truths and freedom of speech, saying the latest was the kidnap of Libya al-Ahrar TV journalists.

"All journalists must be protected like all the civilians in the country. We condemn violence against journalists and call for the end of arbitrary detention." UNSMIL added.

Sources told The Libya Observer that the two journalists were kidnapped as they were moving from al-Aziziya to Sabea area in southern Tripoli. Later, one of the kidnappers called the families of the journalists and said would release them Friday after taking them from Tarhouna-based al-Kani militia, but the release did not happen.

This incident was also condemned by the Libyan Foreign Ministry, which called for the release of the journalists whom it said were doing their job to cover facts and show them to the public.

Likewise, Reporters without Borders denounced the kidnapping and called for the release of the journalists, condemning their detention by 'Al-Kanyat militias of Khalifa Haftar's forces' saying they were held in Tarhouna where Haftar's forces operations room is located.

"The armed forces should respect international laws and avoid targeting media outlets and journalists, who should be released immediately." Head of RSF's North Africa Office Suhaib al-Khayati said.

Netanyahu vows 'massive strikes' in response to Gaza rocket barrages
[DAWN] Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed on Sunday to continue "massive strikes" in response to rocket fire from the Gazoo Strip as a deadly escalation entered a second day, sparking fears of wider violence.
Just admit they made a mistake and reestablish control over Gaza.
They don’t really want it. Though perhaps this will persuade them it is worth facing the world’s whining about evil Zionist colonialism and such.
Gazook authorities reported six Paleostinians killed, including at least two turbans, by Israeli strikes in the latest round of fighting that began on Saturday as Death Eaters fired hundreds of rockets into Israel.

But Israel disputed their account of the deaths of a pregnant mother and her baby, blaming errant Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, fire.

One 58-year-old Israeli man was killed overnight by a rocket strike on the city of Ashkelon near the Gazoo border, Israeli police and medics said.

"I instructed the [military] this morning to continue its massive strikes on terror elements in the Gazoo Strip," Netanyahu said at the start of a cabinet meeting.

He said he had also ordered "tanks, artillery and infantry forces" to reinforce troops already deployed near Gazoo.

The flare-up came as Hamas, the Islamist movement that rules the blockaded enclave, sought further concessions from Israel under a fragile months-old ceasefire.

Israel said its strikes were in response to Hamas and Islamic Jihad

Aussie judge jails extremist in Philippine terror plot
[Inquirer] The ringleader of a plot to take six Islamist extremists from Australia in a motor boat to the southern Philippines to overthrow the provincial government was sentenced by an Australian judge on Friday to seven years in prison. Victoria state Supreme Court Justice Michael Croucher ordered Islamic State sympathizer Robert “Musa” Cerantonio
...the Melbourne-born radical preacher who had converted from Catholicism in his youth...
to serve at least five years and three months in prison before becoming eligible for parole.

The 34-year-old had pleaded guilty to engaging in conduct in preparation for hostile activities in a foreign country.

Cerantonio and five other men had plotted in 2016 to take a 23-foot power boat off the northeast Queensland coast to encourage others to overthrow the government in the southern Philippines and install sharia law. None of them could travel the 2,200 miles to the Philippines by conventional means because their Australian passports had been canceled due to concerns they would become foreign fighters.

They had towed the boat with a car 1,900 miles from their homes in Melbourne to Laura in the tropical north before they were arrested by police in May 2016. Croucher described the planned voyage by men with no experience of boats as a trip “foredoomed to failure.”

“It’s hard to imagine they would have made it very far past the breakers,” said Croucher.

The other five had already been sentenced from three years and ten months to four years in prison.

Croucher said Cerantonio’s role in sharing his “putrid ideas” deserved a greater punishment than the others who were subordinates and influenced by him.

Philippine authorities deported Cerantonio in 2014 because of his suspected links to militants based on YouTube videos showing him advocating jihad.

The judge said Cerantonio was obviously intelligent. He said, "He intended to use his considerable gifts for evil, not for good."

Croucher was not satisfied Cerantonio had renounced his extremist beliefs since his arrest.

Defense lawyer Jarrod Williams said Cerantonio did not fit the extremist stereotype and enjoyed music by AC/DC, Cold Chisel, Johnny Cash, Paul Simon and Rammstein. Williams said, "This is a man who doesn’t always fit the profile of an Islamic extremist."

Al-Sarraj says things won't be the same as they were before Haftar's attack on Tripoli
[Libya Observer] The Head of the Presidential Council Fayez al-Sarraj said Thursday that post-April 04 situation is going to be completely different from before it, referring to the date of the kickoff of Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. 's attack on Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
In a meeting with his cabinet in Tripoli, al-Sarraj said the Presidential Council did not finish off the political process but on the contrary, it called for it, however; Haftar destroyed it and damaged the social fabric in Libya among other things.

"Any talks about ceasefire in Tripoli is tied to the immediate pullout of Haftar's attacking forces and their return to their previous positions." al-Sarraj remarked.

He hailed the forces under his government's command for defending the civil state and said things on the ground point to a great advantage for the Libyan Army forces under his government's command.

"The government officials must go on media to speak loudly and clearly about their stance toward the offensive against Tripoli. I have seen some hesitation by some regarding this point." al-Sarraj added, saying: "it's a shame that our young men are dying on the frontlines and we are lacking courage to go on TV and name things in black and white."

Qatar will not grant visas to its 'enemies'
[DAWN] Qatar will not grant visas to those it considers “enemies”, the secretary-general of the National Tourism Council said in reference to Egyptians seeking to enter the country amid an ongoing political rift.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt cut diplomatic and trade ties with Qatar in 2017, accusing it of supporting terrorism. Doha denies the allegation.

While citizens from the three Gulf states were recalled to their home countries due to the rift, Egyptians, who make up the largest Arab minority in Qatar, have remained and make up a sizable portion of the tiny but wealthy country's workforce.

Preserving a loved one's tattoos after death
[BBC] Would you consider preserving the tattoo of a loved one who has died? It's becoming an increasingly common request from people in their final weeks.
If I were to do such a thing, I would be content with professional quality photos, if only because there’d be no chance of mold growth later.
Readers may find an image below distressing
I can't imagine why.
Chris Wenzel's lifelong love affair with tattooing began when he was just nine years old when his aunt asked him to design her a tattoo, one he ended up partly inking on her skin himself.

By the time he was teenager, both his arms were completely covered in skin art. As an adult, he was a respected tattoo artist who owned Electric Underground Tattoos Inc, a studio in Saskatoon, Canada.

"He loved seeing the ink on people's skin, fell in love with it," says his wife Cheryl, who now runs the tattoo studio with a business partner.

Chris died last October of heart failure, after struggling for years with ulcerative colitis, leaving her and the couple's five sons behind. He was 41.

Woman, boy killed in 'unprovoked' Indian shelling
[DAWN] A young boy and a woman were killed while another woman was maimed in two different areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmire (AJK) on Sunday amid "unprovoked shelling" by Indian troops from across the restive Line of Control (LoC), officials said.

According to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistain Army troops responded effectively and targeted those posts which initiated fire. Intermittent firing is ongoing, the statement added.

The casualties occurred in Maal Gujran and Sehra villages in Khuiratta and Hajira subdivisions of Kotli and Poonch districts, respectively, where Indian troops resorted to shelling from 10am onwards, officials said.

In Hajira, Indian troops started shelling in Battal sector at about 10:45am "without any provocation, catching the residents off guard", said Javed Iqbal, a local police official.

"A mortar shell went kaboom! in the courtyard of a house, killing a woman on the spot and critically injuring her daughter in law," he said, adding that continued shelling has kept people of the area indoors.

Rubia Kanwal, Pooch district disaster management officer (DDMO), identified the dear departed as 45-year-old Nasreen Begum, wife of Chaudhry Wazir Hussain, and the injured woman as 24-year-old Sonia Nadeem.

Israel army denies Gaza mother, baby killed by Israeli strike
[DAWN] Israel's army on Sunday denied claims from Gazook authorities that an Israeli strike killed a pregnant Paleostinian mother and her baby, saying errant Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, fire was to blame for the deaths.

"The terror organizations' propaganda at its finest," Israeli army front man Ronen Manelis said on Twitter.

"The mother and girl they're claiming in Gazoo that were killed in an (Israeli) attack were killed by Hamas use of weapons," he added, without providing further details.

Another Israeli military front man, Jonathan Conricus, told journalists later that based on intelligence "we are now confident" that the deaths were not due to an Israeli strike.

"Their unfortunate death was not a result of [Israeli] weaponry but a Hamas rocket that was fired and went kaboom! not where it was supposed to," he said.

The Gazook health ministry said on Saturday that Falestine Abu Arar, 37, and her 14-month-old daughter were killed by an Israeli strike that hit their home.

A severe escalation that began Saturday has seen Paleostinian gunnies fire some 430 rockets from Gazoo, Israel's army says.

Israel has responded with waves of air and tank strikes and says it is targeting only military-related sites. Four other Paleostinians have been reported killed, including at least two bad boys. One Israeli civilian was killed in a rocket strike on the city of Ashkelon near the Gazoo border.
