-Short Attention Span Theater-
Teddy Roosevelt's Shotgun Goes to Texas
[Gun & Garden] At a James D. Julia firearms auction in 2010, what is widely agreed to be the most historic American shotgun in existence went on the block. The gun belonged to President Theodore Roosevelt, and the buyer was one Jason Roselius, a Texas-born attorney and lifelong history buff, whose winning $862,500 bid made it the most expensive gun ever sold at auction‐by a long shot.

The 12-gauge double was custom-made for Roosevelt, complete with an inscription on the right barrel, by the A.H. Fox Gun Company in 1908. In a letter to founder Ansley Fox shortly after receiving the gift, Roosevelt wrote, "I really think it is the most beautiful gun I have ever seen." The President looked after the Fox with meticulous care, cleaning it with a pair of his old pajamas (these too were included in the sale). Perhaps most significant are the gun’s travels, including Roosevelt’s famous 1909 African safari, a number of birds from which are on display at the Smithsonian. And now, the gun itself has a new home at the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum (PPHM) in Canyon, Texas.

Man sets himself ablaze near White House
[MAIL] Disturbing footage has emerged of a man setting himself on fire and calmly walking around near the White House as police desperately tried to douse the flames.

The man, who has not yet been identified, set himself on fire on Wednesday on the Ellipse park in downtown Washington D.C.

Video of the incident showed the man walking calmly across the Ellipse near the Washington Mall, an area popular with tourists, with flames covering his body.

Several seconds later, U.S. Secret Service staff could be seen towards him with a fire extinguisher to put out the blaze.

It occurred less than a mile from the White House.

Arnav Gupta of Bethesda Maryland self-immolated near 15th Street and Constitution Ave., located south of the White House around 12:20 p.m. EST, U.S. Secret Serice officials said. National Park Service and U.S. Park Police provided first aid to the individual and was rushed to a nearby hospital shortly after.

U.S. Park Police announced in an earlier Thursday morning statement that Gupta succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday evening.

The Montgomery County Police Department said in a Facebook post that Gupta was last seen by members of his family when leaving his residence at 9:20 a.m. EST.

Police spokesman Sgt. Eduardo Delgado said police have not identified a motive.

Trump: ‘We Are Going to Do Something Very Dramatic' at US-Mexico Border
[EPOCH Times] President Donald Trump said that his administration was set to take major action at the United States-Mexico border.

"We are going to do something very dramatic on the border," he told reporters in Washington on May 30 before boarding Marine One. "I would say my biggest statement yet" would be made, he added.

The statement would be issued either later Thursday or sometime Friday, the president said.

"I’m not closing the borders, I’m doing something else," he said, adding that the statement "will have to do with people crossing the border illegally."

He said he was being forced to take action because "the Democrats will not give us laws" and "will not do anything."

"They want to have open borders" with crime and drugs pouring in, he added, along with human trafficking.

Trump was slated to go to Colorado and speak at the Air Force Academy’s graduation ceremony.

Dems Promise To Do A Better Job Of Hiding Their Support For Infanticide In The Future
[Babylon Bee] U.S.‐After President Trump once again called attention to Democrats' support for the violent execution of both unborn and newborn babies, Democrats apologized and promised to do a better job of hiding their support for infanticide in the future.

Democrats phoned up various mainstream media outlets and made sure that they called Trump's comments untruthful to provide some cover for their pro-infanticide position while they regrouped. Several leaders on the left realized that they needed to be more circumspect about their public support for killing born babies for the foreseeable future.

"When President Trump started riling up the crowd by accurately pointing out that we believe newborn babies can be executed, it didn't feel good," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said. "I heard him listing off the things we believe one by one, and I was like, 'Whoa, that's pretty radical.' So it was a good time for me to stop and take stock of how far left we are moving on abortion."

"And that's when I had a 'Come to Obama' moment and realized that we need to just pretend not to want to kill born babies for a while," she said. "We'll stay under the radar for a while until it's a little more socially acceptable."

"If you guys could just stop quoting our actual beliefs on infanticide and posting actual videos of us saying horrible things about killing babies in the meantime, that'd be great," she added.

Americans' Loss Of Interest In Civil War Battlefields Is Part Of A Disturbing Trend
[The Federalist] Americans are losing interest in the Civil War‐or at least they are losing interest in learning about it and visiting historic battle sites. The Wall Street Journal reported recently that the country’s "five major Civil War battlefield parks‐Gettysburg, Antietam, Shiloh, Chickamauga/Chattanooga, and Vicksburg‐had a combined 3.1 million visitors in 2018, down from about 10.2 million in 1970." Gettysburg, America’s most famous and hallowed battlefield, drew fewer than a million visitors last year, and just 14 percent of the visitor total in 1970.

In addition to fewer tourists, the number of Civil War re-enactors is also declining. Many are growing old, and younger men are not stepping in to replenish their ranks. As one 68-year-old re-enactor, who recently helped organize a recreation of the Battle of Resaca in Georgia, told the Journal, "The younger generations are not taught to respect history, and they lose interest in it."

John Durham Needs To Investigate Why The Info Generating The Mueller Probe Is All Linked To Hillary Clinton
Excerpt:
[The Federalist] Comey never used intelligence derived from U.S. sources to initiate or justify probes into Trump’s campaign. All the information Comey, Clapper, and Brennan used to justify investigating Trump was data linked to Clinton or Democrats in some manner. During a Fox News interview with Bill Hemmer, Barr explained that initiating a counterintelligence probe from the Steele dossier was "very unusual":
All roads lead to Clinton and are systematically obstructed by the Intelligence Community. Could there possibly be a connection ?

Exclusive: Disney CEO says it will be 'difficult' to film in Georgia if abortion law takes effect
ANAHEIM, Calif. (Reuters) - Walt Disney Co Chief Executive Bob Iger told Reuters on Wednesday it would be "very difficult" for the media company to keep filming in Georgia if a new abortion law takes effect because many people will not want to work in the U.S. state.

Disney has filmed blockbuster movies in Georgia such as "Black Panther" and "Avengers: Endgame," and it would be a blow to the state’s efforts to create production jobs if the entertainment giant stopped filming there.

Georgia’s Republican governor signed into law on May 7 a ban on abortion after a doctor can detect a fetal heartbeat - about six weeks into a pregnancy, before many women know they are pregnant. The law is due to take effect on Jan. 1, if it survives court challenges.

Asked if Disney would keep filming in Georgia, Iger said it would be "very difficult to do so" if the abortion law is implemented.

#19  like having to pay actor's union wages for CGI characters.

Please tell me you stole that from the Babylon Bee.

Not Bee. But quite a few years ago. The argument was something akin to if the CGI character could reasonably be acted by an extra, the CGI character is acting, and subject to and under the protection of the union, requiring the amount due that an actor would receive as that extra.

For example. Gungens. Final fight scene. The robots are not quite humanoid like, say C3PO, though one could argue neither is R2D2 yet required a human to operate. Say working wage of a stock extra is $5000 for easy math. Of that, say 5% again easy math would go to the union, $250. Probably too high, but multiply that by every non-speaking CGI critter in that battle, indeed the entire movie. Or a cut scene of the coliseum in Gladiator. I think this got squashed but I don't know anymore.

Additionally, firearms in movies, especially those which fire blanks, are firearms. Imagine trying to shoot (npi) The Walking Dead in California Compliant rules. Licensing and Expert Witness Fees aka Payoff the Government, would be a huge chunk of production cost. It was explained during the Hally Berry does 3 Gun! promo that regular Californians cannot do that because whatshiscompany is one of very few companies who have explicit exemptions from California gun laws because Hollywood, and those guns you see in movies are owned by a very small group of exempt businesses and avoid the onerous laws by being on the set, the firearms are still in their possession and therefore not transferred and thus exempt from California magazine laws etc.

Similar lore concerning Louisiana; in a promotional gig the state waived taxes involving media production. Story was company sent a squad to the state with the orders to "Come up with any kind of a show." Boom, Swamp People.

All the same, I'd tell them to fargoff - do seriously want your state mentioned in Captain Marvel 2? And if the semi-pro and pro sports conglomerate didn't succeed in throwing elbows around, this won't at all.

Britain
UK House Speaker: Trump Will Not Be Invited To Speak To Parliament
[Hot Air] President Trump will travel to the UK next month and his schedule is being worked out between his staff and UK officials. One item will not be on his agenda that traditionally has been extended to other American presidents ‐ there likely will not be an invitation extended to President Trump to address Parliament.

Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, is still on his high horse about the election of Donald Trump. #TheResistance is alive and well in Great Britain and Bercow is doing his part. He has refused to issue an invitation, as is his job, to President Trump since 2017 and nothing has changed. Other presidents have spoken to Parliament during state visits including Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and Ronald Reagan.

Dershowitz: Mueller Just Put His Elbow On The Scale And Revealed His Partisan Bias
[Hot Air] Alan Dershowitz had a strong reaction to Mueller’s statement earlier today. Dershowitz wrote a piece for the Hill saying that prior to today he didn’t believe Mueller has a horse in this race. But after his statement today, Dershowitz believes he was wrong. He says Mueller effective put his elbow on the scales of justice today:
The statement by special counsel Robert Mueller in a Wednesday press conference that "if we had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime we would have said that" is worse than the statement made by then FBI Director James Comey regarding Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign...

Comey was universally criticized for going beyond his responsibility to state whether there was sufficient evidence to indict Clinton. Mueller, however, did even more. He went beyond the conclusion of his report and gave a political gift to Democrats in Congress who are seeking to institute impeachment proceedings against President Trump. By implying that President Trump might have committed obstruction of justice, Mueller effectively invited Democrats to institute impeachment proceedings. Obstruction of justice is a "high crime and misdemeanor" which, under the Constitution, authorizes impeachment and removal of the president.

Until today, I have defended Mueller against the accusations that he is a partisan. I did not believe that he personally favored either the Democrats or the Republicans, or had a point of view on whether President Trump should be impeached. But I have now changed my mind. By putting his thumb, indeed his elbow, on the scale of justice in favor of impeachment based on obstruction of justice, Mueller has revealed his partisan bias.

In some ways, Dershowitz isn’t saying anything that different from what Judge Napolitano said earlier today. Napolitano also thought that Mueller’s statement was a message to Democrats in Congress that he would have indicted Trump if he could have. And as Ed noted, that’s exactly how several Democrats interpreted it. All Dershowitz is adding is that Mueller’s effort to give Democrats a push looks pretty partisan.

#2  The problem Dershowitz, and so many like him, has is the inability to analyse the fact that the meta-party, aka Deep State, is the source of his partisanship.

It's not Democrats that he's trying to support it is the insiders, like himself, that has Mueller's loyalty. Trump's cardinal sin is not to belong to that party.

#3  Dershowitz is the master of understatement. What's Mueller trying to cover up? That needs to be looked into.

#4  So investigate Mueller for unlawful prosecution.

Alan Dershowitz: Boston Remembers Mueller Protected Whitey Bulger. "He's the guy who kept four innocent people in prison for many years in order to protect the cover of Whitey Bulger as an FBI informer. Those of us in Boston don't have such a high regard for Mueller because we remember this story. The government had to pay out tens of millions of dollars because Whitey Bulger, a notorious mass murderer, became a government informer against the mafia.

#5  he would have indicted Trump if he could have

And that was stated on what page of the 447 page Volume 2? Did he lead off the report with the statement, "I can't indite a sitting president, however, here are the crimes the Congress should consider"? No? He's making a new conclusion?

How convenient.

Ex-State Department head of diplomatic security (DS) 'surprised' by Hillary Clinton's private email use
[Washington Examiner] The official in charge of protecting State Department staff said he was "surprised" to learn that Hillary Clinton used a personal email address to conduct government business.

Eric Boswell, the former head of diplomatic security, acknowledged in a deposition this month that he warned Clinton and other State Department staff against the use of personal emails.

"We also urge Department users to minimize the use of personal web email for business, as some compromised home systems have been reconfigured by these actors to automatically forward copies of all composed emails to an undisclosed recipient," read a 2011 memo that bore his signature.

Clinton was a recipient of the memo, but Boswell could not confirm whether the secretary of state actually read it.

Boswell, who stepped down from his position in 2012, said he and other former State Department officials had spoken about Clinton's use of the private email address clintonemail.com as a "general issue."

"We were surprised," he added.

Boswell participated in a deposition this month as part of a court-ordered discovery related to Clinton’s use of an unauthorized email server during her time as secretary of state. A federal judge ruled that several Obama administration officials would have to answer conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch's questions about whether Clinton intentionally attempted to evade the Freedom of Information Act by using a nongovernment email system.

Boswell also warned Clinton against her use of Blackberry devices in the executive offices of the State Department. In a previously declassified memo to Cheryl Mills, Clinton's chief of staff, Boswell said the secretary of state should discontinue her use of the device due to "vulnerabilities and risks." Although Clinton assured Boswell she read the internal memo and "gets it," an email obtained by Judicial Watch indicates she still carried the device "[a]gainst the advice of the security hawks."

The debate over whether Clinton's home-based email server, which she claims was set up for convenience, remains alive today. During a hearing with Attorney General William Barr this month, Rep. Louie Gohmert accused FBI Director Christopher Wray of a pro-Clinton cover-up by not pressing the intelligence community for proof that it was not hacked by China.

Also this month, partially redacted documents were released by the FBI that were part of the bureau's "Midyear Exam" investigation, which looked into Clinton's mishandling of classified information on her unauthorized private email servers while serving as secretary of state. The documents put on display a sense of alarm among Clinton's staff following what they feared to be a hack of the server and glaring security oversights.

The FBI investigation into Clinton's emails came to a conclusion during the 2016 presidential election. Former FBI Director James Comey publicly recommended in 2016 that no charges be brought against Clinton, who was then a candidate for president, but admonished Clinton and her colleagues for being "extremely careless" in handling classified information.

One of the main controversies stemming from Clinton's emails was how a technician managing the server deleted 33,000 emails. The FBI was only able to recover about 5,000 of the emails, which were released in tranches up until earlier this year as part of a Judicial Watch lawsuit. Clinton has said she "never received nor sent any material that was marked classified," but the FBI found 110 emails did contain classified information.

Clinton has long blamed the FBI's handling of the investigation as a reason for her 2016 loss to President Trump.

NorthFace and Leo Burnett Tailor Made - Deface Wikipedia
Yesterday, we were disappointed to learn that The North Face, an outdoor recreation product company, and Leo Burnett Tailor Made, an ad agency retained by The North Face, unethically manipulated Wikipedia. They have risked your trust in our mission for a short-lived marketing stunt.

In a video about the campaign, Leo Burnett and The North Face boasted that they “did what no one has done before … we switched the Wikipedia photos for ours” and “[paid] absolutely nothing just by collaborating with Wikipedia.”

The video was later published by AdAge, which said that the agency’s “biggest obstacle” was in manipulating the site “without attracting attention [from] Wikipedia moderators.”

Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation did not collaborate on this stunt, as The North Face falsely claims. In fact, what they did was akin to defacing public property, which is a surprising direction from The North Face. Their stated mission, “unchanged since 1966,” is to “support the preservation of the outdoors”—a public good held in trust for all of us.

As the nonprofit that operates Wikipedia, the Wikimedia Foundation’s vision is a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge. We also work for the preservation of a public good.

For more than 18 years, Wikipedia volunteers have been writing, perfecting, sourcing, and referencing more than 50 million articles that anyone can access for free on the internet. Every day they fight to protect what you read from bias and misinformation—that is how they have earned your trust.

DOJ inspector general: Ex-FBI official Andrew McCabe leaked 'sensitive' info, improperly accepted gift from media
[Washington Examiner] The Justice Department's watchdog said a high-ranking FBI official leaked "sensitive" information to reporters multiple times with authorization and had improperly accepted a gift from the media.

A one-page report from Inspector General Michael Horowitz released Wednesday concluded that a now-former deputy assistant director with the FBI "engaged in misconduct" by disclosing information to the media that had been filed under seal in federal court, maintaining dozens of unauthorized contacts with reporters, and accepting a $225 ticket from a member of the media to attend a dinner sponsored by the media.

Despite these violations of FBI policy, the inspector general said "prosecution of the [deputy assistant director] was declined."

The investigation was initiated by the Office of the Inspector General in response to allegations from the FBI, and the inspector general said that it is now "providing this report to the FBI for appropriate action."

When the Washington Examiner reached out to the DOJ inspector general’s office for further information about the investigation, including the identity of the unnamed deputy assistant director, a senior counsel said to file a Freedom of Information Act request with their office.

During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing this month, Sen. Chuck Grassley told Attorney General William Barr "there have been a number of leaks coming out of the Justice Department and FBI during high-profile investigations" and that "leaks undermine the ability of investigators to investigate." Barr assured him that "we have multiple criminal leak investigations underway."

Biden proves yet again he's an idiot, this time on China
[American Thinker] Recently, Democratic presidential contender Joe Biden said, "China is going to eat our lunch? Come on, man...they can't even figure out how to deal with the fact that they have this great division between the China Sea and the mountains in the east, I mean in the west." Biden continued, "They can't figure out how they're going to deal with the corruption that exists within the system. I mean, you know, they're not bad folks, folks. But guess what: they're not. They're not competition for us."

He might want to look for advice to former British prime minister Winston Churchill, who said, "You must look at the facts, because they look at you."

Here are the facts:

Over the past decade, annual US exports to China have risen from $69.5 billion to $120 billion.

Over the same period, Chinese exports to American have grown from $296 billion to $539 billion. Over the decade, the Chinese have sold us $4.4 trillion in goods and services, while we have sold China $1.1 trillion.

In 2018, China sold us $540 billion, while we sold the Chinese $120 billion, for a net deficit of $419 billion.

The net result has been a transfer of $3.3 trillion of wealth from America to China.

What are they selling us, and what are we selling them?

According to the U.S. Trade Representative Office:

Fitton: Judicial Watch Uncovers FBI Knew of Hillary's Abuses
[Breitbart] The FBI knows a lot more about Hillary Clinton than it is willing to let us know.

Judicial Watch has filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Department of Justice seeking draft copies of FBI charts containing information on potential "statutory violations" committed by Hillary Clinton in the former secretary of state’s use of a non-secure, non-government email server to conduct government business.

Judicial Watch is also suing for draft copies of talking points prepared by the FBI for its officials to use following then-Director James Comey’s July 2016 press conference, during which he recommended against prosecuting Clinton for mishandling classified information.

Judicial Watch sued in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia after the DOJ failed to respond to a December 3, 2018, FOIA request (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:19-cv-00800)). We are seeking:
1. All final and draft copies of talking points prepared by the FBI for its Executive Assistant Directors (EADs) relating to the "Mid-Year Exam" investigation ("MYE Talking Points) following the July 5, 2016 James Comey press conference in which he indicated he would not recommend prosecuting Hillary Clinton.

2. All final draft copies of a one-page version of the aforementioned MYE Talking Points created for FBI Special Agents-in-Charge (SACs).

3. All final and draft copies of charts of the "statutory violations considered during the investigation [of Hillary Clinton’s server], and the reasons for the recommendation not to prosecute."
Judicial Watch recently uncovered DOJ records in a related lawsuit that include emails documenting an evident cover-up of a chart of potential violations of law by the secretary of state. On July 8, 2016, three days after then-FBI Director James Comey’s press conference announcing that he would not recommend a prosecution of Clinton, the Special Counsel to the FBI’s executive assistant director in charge of the National Security Branch, whose name is redacted, wrote to Peter Strzok and others that he was producing a "chart of the statutory violations considered during the investigation [of Clinton’s server], and the reasons for the recommendation not to prosecute..."

Neither these talking points nor the chart of potential violations committed by Clinton and her associates have been released.

Judicial Watch will continue pressing for this secret FBI chart of potential Hillary Clinton crimes. The FBI should focus on this Clinton "matter" now that it is unencumbered by the corrupt partisanship of Comey, McCabe, Strzok, Page, and the rest of their crowd.

Facebook Removes Iranian-Linked Accounts, Citing ‘Inauthentic Behavior’
[Jpost] Facebook announced on Tuesday that it removed 51 accounts, 36 pages, seven groups and three Instagram accounts linked to Iran for "coordinated inauthentic behavior."

The social-media company cited the cybersecurity company FireEye, issuing a report on "inauthentic social-media accounts posing as everyday Americans that were used to promote content from inauthentic news sites."

In February, Facebook 783 deleted "inauthentic" pages, groups and accounts tied to Iran designed to manipulate users in more than 20 countries, including Israel.
Update from Breitbart at 6:00 pm EDT:
Some of these accounts reportedly attempted to impersonate 2018 Republican congressional candidates.

Facebook began looking into this issue following a tip from the cybersecurity firm FireEye; this resulted in the removal of 51 bogus accounts, 36 pages which were followed by a total of 21,000 users, seven groups with 1,900 users in total, and three Instagram accounts with a combined follower account of 2,600 people. Twitter removed 2,800 accounts.

FireEye wrote in a blog post: "In addition to utilizing fake American personas that espoused both progressive and conservative political stances, some accounts impersonated real American individuals, including a handful of Republican political candidates that ran for House of Representatives seats in 2018."

Budapest Jews to establish their own security service amid anti-Semitism fears
God helps those who help themselves.
[IsraelTimes] A Hungarian Jewish organization that monitors and fights anti-Semitism on Wednesday said it was forming its own security service to patrol the historic Jewish quarter of the capital city Budapest.

"To prevent anti-Semitic atrocities, the Foundation for Action and Defense decided to create a kind of ’self-organized security service,’" the organization announced on its Facebook page.

Organization director Szalai Kálmán said the goal was to prevent "importing the plague of the anti-Semitism in north and west Europe" and do everything possible to ensure "Budapest does not become like some of the western cities," an apparent reference to the rise in anti-Semitic attacks in other European countries.

Known by its initials in Hungarian, the TEV was organized in 2012 to fight anti-Semitism in Hungary. The group monitors and reports incidents and acts as a central coordinating organizer for the Jewish community’s efforts to combat attacks against Jews.

György Szabó, head of the Jewish Heritage of Hungary Public Endowment board, told the Népszava news website that verbal attacks against Jews were a regular occurrence in the city’s 7th district, known as "Elizabethtown." Szabó said drunk tourists often hurl insults and shout "Heil Hitler" at Orthodox Jews who are identifiable by their head covering and appearance.

The Magyar Narancs news website said the TEV service is expected to be staffed by volunteers and work with law enforcement agencies.

A survey last year showed that two-thirds of Hungarian Jews believe anti-Semitism is a serious problem in their country.

[Jpost] The tunnel, which began in the southern Lebanese village of Ramiya and stretched one kilometer infiltrated several dozen meters into northern Israel, close to the communities of Zarit and Shetula.
The Times of Israel has a cute little video tour of the thing, complete with tour guide.
Six months after the Israeli military declared an end to Operation Northern Shield, the IDF has begun destroying the final and largest cross-border tunnel dug by Hezbollah into Israeli territory.

The tunnel began in the Lebanese village of Ramiyeh and stretched one kilometer before infiltrating several meters into northern Israel, close to the communities of Zarit and Shtula.

Jordan stands by two-state Israel-Palestinian solution
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Jordan on Wednesday stood by a two-state solution to the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict, exposing a rift with the United States as the Trump administration tries to rally Arab support for a peace conference next month in Bahrain.

Presidential advisers Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt met with Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Amman.

The official Petra news agency said the two parties "discussed regional developments, especially efforts to resolve the Paleostinian-Israeli conflict."

The king restated his commitment to the two-state solution, with the formation of an independent Paleostinian state alongside Israel, a position that appears to be at odds with President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s still undisclosed "Deal of the Century."

Jordan, a key US ally, has not yet said whether it will attend the June 25-26 meeting in the Bahraini capital, Manama.

The Paleostinians have already said they will not attend the summit and have rejected the Trump administration’s Mideast peace plan out of hand.

Kushner, who arrived from Morocco, has said the conference will focus on the economic foundations of peace between Israel and the Paleostinians. The conference will not include core political issues, such as Paleostinian statehood.

Greenblatt and Kushner met with Morocco’s King Mohammed VI on Tuesday and discussed Morocco’s support for the peace conference. Moroccan officials declined commenting on Kushner’s visit.

The White House confirmed Kushner was in Amman on Wednesday, but gave no details.

Reliant on American political and military support, it will be difficult for Jordan reject the invitation. But with most of its people of Paleostinian descent, it will be difficult to embrace a plan that does not include a Paleostinian state.

Crisis Group Urges 'Dialogue' between Mali Government, Jihadists
[AnNahar] Mali's government should consider "dialogue" with jihadists waging an insurgency in the west African state, the International Crisis Group (ICG) think tank suggested Tuesday, an idea promptly rejected by Bamako.

The idea of talking to jihadists may seem ludicrous to some, said the ICG, but insisted all avenues should be explored to protect civilians reeling from inter-communal violence in central Mali, fuelled by the Islamist revolt.

In a report, the ICG did not suggest halting military operations against Katiba Macina, the gang of radical Islamist preacher Amadou Koufa behind a four-year-old insurgency.

Amnesty accuses Myanmar military of fresh 'war crimes' in Rakhine
[DAWN] Myanmar's military is guilty of committing new "war crimes", extrajudicial killings and torture in its fight against ethnic Rakhine rebels, Amnesia Amnesty International said on Wednesday.

The armed forces have deployed thousands of troops and heavy artillery across northern Rakhine state in recent months where Arakan Army (AA) rebels are fighting for more autonomy for the state's ethnic Rakhine Buddhists.

The state was also the scene of the military's bloody crackdown against the Rohingya Moslem community in 2017. That campaign pushed some 740,000 Rohingya into Bangladesh in violence, UN Sherlocks say, warrants prosecution of top generals for "genocide".

The Amnesty said on Wednesday it had "new evidence" that Myanmar's military is now "committing war crimes and other human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
violations" against the ethnic Rakhine, listing extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, torture and enforced disappearances.

Access to the conflict area is heavily restricted but details of civilian deaths have emerged over recent weeks and months. But the army has confirmed it rubbed out six detainees late last month in the village of Kyauk Tan.

The Amnesty's report is based on scores of interviews with people from various ethnic groups, photographs, videos and satellite imagery.

It documents seven unlawful attacks that killed 14 civilians and injured dozens more, saying notorious infantry units have been deployed against the ethnic Rakhine. Some Rohingya Moslems who have remained in the area have also been killed.

"The new operations in Rakhine State show an unrepentant, unreformed and unaccountable military terrorising civilians," said regional director Nicholas Bequelin.

MWL publishes ‘Mecca Document’ encouraging tolerance in Muslim societies
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Moslem World League (MWL) has published a document on Wednesday that concludes the sessions of the "Mecca Document Conference," aiming to achieve peace between different elements of the Moslem society, two days before the Islamic Summit.

The seven-page long document has 29 different Islamic principles accompanied with instructions of tolerance and equality while repelling hate preachers and any sect considering the other "inferior".

The first page of the document stresses the importance of its issuance from Mecca, the holiest city in Islam and the direction of prayer for more than 1.6 billion Moslems around the world.

"Islamophobia
...the irrational fear that Moslems will act the way they usually do...
is a result of not truly knowing Islam... to truly know Islam, one needs objectivity and getting rid of judgments," the document says addressing the trendy fear or hatred of Islam.

The document rejects the interferences in the affairs of other countries "especially through aiming for political dominance, economic greediness, or encouraging sectarian ideologies."

It also addresses connecting a certain religion with the political practices of its followers, stressing on the fact that all three monotheistic religions are innocent of negative practices.

To eliminate causes of conflicts related to religion and culture, the document encourages enforcing laws that set back hate preachers and encouragers of violence and terrorism.

"It is everyone’s responsibility to counter terrorism and oppression and reject violating human rights
...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state...
," reads one of document’s 29 principles. The document also stresses on women’s rights in Islam, including in religious, scientific, political, and societal aspects, and discourages the wage gap between genders.

The document in concept is similar to one called "the Medina document" which was written in the time of Mohammed, the prophet of Islam. It was a constitutional document that aims to unify the principles of living and achieving peace between different elements of society.

Iraqi president meets Erdogan as Turkey strikes PKK targets
[Rudaw] Iraqi President Barham Salih met with his Ottoman Turkish counterpart Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
in Istanbul on Tuesday as Ottoman Turkish forces launched a fresh offensive against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) inside Iraq’s Kurdistan Region.

The Iraqi president "stressed the need to safeguard Iraqi illusory sovereignty and rejected any unilateral military action beyond Iraq’s borders," according to a statement published by his office on Wednesday morning.

The closed-door meeting was attended by Iraq and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
’s respective foreign ministers, Iraqi’s national security adviser, and Turkey’s intelligence chief.

Turkey launched Operation Claw, a targeted air and ground offensive against the PKK, on Monday.

The aim of the operation is "to destroy the caves and shelters used by the terrorist organization and neutralize murderous Moslems in the Hakurk region," Turkey’s defense ministry said.

Hakurk is in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, close to its borders with Turkey and Iran. It is located just north of Qandil, where the PKK is currently headquartered.

Artillery shelling was followed by Arclight airstrikes, destroying weapons positions, shelters, caves, and ammunition depots used by the PKK. Turkey also launched commando operations.

Nine PKK fighters have been "neutralized" ‐ a term used by the Ottoman Turkish military to connote anyone killed, injured, or captured ‐ according to the National Defense Ministry.

Iraqi and Ottoman Turkish officials have held several rounds of talks in quick succession in recent months as Turkey ratchets up operations against the PKK on the Iraq-Turkey border.

The PKK’s mountain-based operations also tend to pick up during the warmer spring and summer months.

Earlier this month, Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi also visited Erdogan in Ankara. Security also topped the agenda.

In a presser following their May 15 meeting, Abdul-Mahdi rejected the use of Iraqi soil to launch attacks on Turkey.

Ottoman Turkish Foreign Minister Mehmet Cavusoglu visited Erbil and Baghdad a few weeks earlier. Iraq’s Foreign Minister Mohammad al-Hakim issued a statement following his meeting with Cavusoglu "strongly rejecting the use of its land for any military activities against Turkey."

The PKK has fought a decades-long struggle with Turkey for great political and cultural rights for Kurds. Founded in 1978, the group began its armed insurgency in 1984. An estimated 40,000 people have died as a result of the conflict.

Other topics of negotiation between Iraq and Turkey are their shared water resources, trade, and the Kirkuk-Ceyhan oil pipeline.

Afghanistan
Taliban kill 23 in two attacks on Afghan forces
[DAWN] Afghan officials said on Tuesday that two Taliban

attacks targeted Afghan security checkpoints in the country’s west and east, killing at least 23 members of the security forces.

In western Ghor province, Abdul Hai Khateby, the governor’s front man, says 18 coppers and pro-government gunnies were killed and seven were maimed in hours-long gunbattle with bandidos krazed killers near Feroz Koh, the historic provincial capital. No group immediately took responsibility for the attack.

In eastern Pashtun-infested Logar province, Mohammad Naser Ghairat, a provincial councilman, said bandidos krazed killers overran an army checkpoint in the district of Baraki Barak on Monday, killing five soldiers there.

Ghairat said four soldiers were also maimed while the Taliban captured four others. He says the bandidos krazed killers stole a Humvee and ammunition from the checkpoint. The Taliban grabbed credit for the Pashtun-infested Logar attack.

18 Killed as Taliban Strike near Historic Afghan Minaret

[AnNahar] Taliban fighters have stormed several security posts providing protection to Afghanistan's historic minaret of Jam, cutting access to the UNESCO World Heritage Site and killing 18 security forces, officials said Wednesday.

The attack comes less than a week after the revered 12th-century minaret, located in a remote part of the western province of Ghor, was threatened by surging floodwaters.

"The Taliban have captured some checkpoints around the minaret. We had to retreat because more fighting would cause damage to the minaret," Sayed Zia Hussaini, the deputy police chief of Ghor, told AFP.

Abdul Hai Khatebi, the provincial governor front man, said 15 pro-government militias and three coppers had been killed in the attacks, which started Monday.

"The Taliban have shut off telecommunication towers and have cut any access to the area," Fakhruddin Ariapur, the Ghor province director of information and culture, told AFP.

"The cleaning-up work (from the flood) has stopped and we don't know what is happening there."

Dramatic video footage from late last week showed brown torrents crashing up against the base of the brick minaret, which was built in about 1190.

On Monday, the government said it had hired about 300 local workers to channel floodwaters away from the tower. The work appeared to have saved the minaret from imminent danger.

Located in an area largely under Taliban control, the Jam minaret is the world's second tallest made of bricks, reaching a height of 65 meters (213 feet).

Iraq
Iraqi PM downplays ISIS arson in recent crop fire surge
[Rudaw] Adil Abdul-Mahdi, the Iraqi prime minister, has downplayed the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS)’s role in the recent spate of crop fires in Iraq’s northern and central provinces, claiming on Tuesday they are rarely the deliberate work of forces of Evil but instead the result of electrical faults and the dry climate.

Speaking to news hounds in his weekly presser in Baghdad, Abdul-Mahdi attributed the recent fires in fields of wheat and barley just before their harvest to a host of reasons other than ISIS.

"We have fires every year. Not all fires are the work of ISIS or hostility...some of them are internal feuds between landowners, between farmers," the Iraqi PM said, using the Arabic acronym for ISIS.

The PM’s comments come after 600 dunams of cropland were burned over the course of May in Khanaqin district, Diyala province alone. Media outlets belonging to ISIS have claimed some of the attacks.

More cropland was burned earlier this month in Makhmour, a disputed area to the southwest of Erbil, after local farmers refused to give ISIS what they called zakat, a form of Islamic tax.

Disputed parts of Diyala, Nineveh, and Saladin governorates are claimed by both the Kurdistan Regional Government in Erbil and central Iraqi government in Baghdad. Militants are exploiting the resulting security gaps between federal and Peshmerga lines.

ISIS is not the only militarized body accused of arson. In fires that took place in Khanaqin, locals blamed the Shiite paramilitaries Hashd al-Shaabi (known in English as the Popular Mobilization Forces, or PMF). Locals there also claimed to have received calls demanding zakat.

Downplaying the amount of crops burned, the PM said: "The number [of fires] in Iraq remains humble compared to other countries."

"Fires always happen in the summer season, everywhere and every year."

He said the number and scale of the fires have been blown out of proportion by intensified media scrutiny. He called on news agencies to "go and investigate to see the areas that face the fires."

The government will nevertheless follow up on any "criminal" act that is reported concerning the issue and fires caused by electrical faults or cigarettes, he said. "We have complete numbers. Fires don’t just happen spontaneously without the awareness or follow up of the state."

A security analyst with a focus on Iraq and Syria who writes under the moniker Tom the Cat has published photos of what look like improvised incendiary devices being used to burn the crops.

ISIS was declared defeated in Iraq in December 2017, and later declared territorially defeated in Syria in March 2019, at the hands of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). As a result, they are now operating from "sleeper cells" and resorting to more disparate attacks, which have become increasingly frequent in recent weeks.

Since last Friday, ten people have been killed and ten more injured in bombings attributed to ISIS in the provinces of Saladin and Nineveh. Arson on agricultural land, however, is a new tactic for the group.

An increase in fires on agricultural land by any means will only exacerbate Iraq’s already fragile food security. Iraq is already heavily reliant on food imports from neighboring Iran and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....

Pope Breaks Silence on McCarrick: ‘I Knew Nothing, Nothing, Nothing’
[BREITBART] Pope Francis has finally broken his silence regarding accusations leveled last August that he had known of ex-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick’s serial homosexual abuse and yet reinstated him to a position of influence in the Vatican.

"About McCarrick I knew nothing, obviously, nothing, nothing," the pope told Mexican news hound Valentina Alazraki in a lengthy interview released Tuesday by Vatican News.

Last August the former Vatican nuncio to the United States, Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, released an 11-page report in which he declared he had personally informed Pope Francis about McCarrick’s misdeeds in 2013 but that Francis had restored him to a position of trust, consulting him regarding the naming of future U.S. bishops.

Pope Francis "knew from at least June 23, 2013 that McCarrick was a serial predator," Viganò stated, and yet, "although he knew that he was a corrupt man, he covered for him to the bitter end; indeed, he made McCarrick’s advice his own."

Viganò also said that Pope Benedict had placed a series of sanctions on McCarrick, including a ban on saying Mass in public or giving lectures, whereas Pope Francis set him "free from all constraints."

Further documentation came to light Tuesday from a separate source confirming the existence of sanctions against McCarrick dating back to 2008.

No concession for those taking law into their own hands: KP info minister on Waziristan clash
[DAWN] Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shaukat Ali Yousafzai on Wednesday said that the government was committed to compensating the residents of tribal areas who suffered immensely during the war against terrorism but that no one would be allowed to take the law into their own hands and undo security forces' gains against terrorism

He was addressing a press conference in Peshawar regarding Sunday's deadly clash between Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) workers and Army troops near a military check post in North Waziristan tribal district.

Yousafzai said a "specific segment" desired that the armed forces vacate the tribal areas but that the troops are needed in the area to maintain peace that can support the government's rehabilitation efforts.

"I want to ask, if [some] local people have come out to protest, what purpose is PTM serving there? Or if some people have been arrested on suspicion of attacking the armed forces [...] why are they [PTM] demanding their release?" the minister questioned.

Rape victim seeks to record new statement before magistrate
[DAWN] RAWALPINDI: A woman who alleged that she was raped by four people including three police officials has disputed her earlier statement recorded with the magistrate, telling the court that she wanted to record another statement because she had previously been pressured.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Saddar Circle Rai Mazhar Iqbal called a hurried press briefing after the woman spoke before area magistrate, saying that they were with the victim and justice would be done. He said complete investigation would be carried out to ascertain whether the victim was being pressured.

Mr Iqbal said that soon after the victim lodged her complaint, all three of the police officials she named as well as the fourth suspect were enjugged
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
. The victim recorded her statement in the court of area magistrate Sumaira Alamgir on May 24, during which she identified the suspects.

The victim prayed before the area magistrate on Tuesday asking to record her statement again and seeking the re-examination of her earlier statement.

She said she had been influenced and pressured by the media and focal persons from NGOs who forced her to record her statement before the court.

In her application, she blamed the police for nominating the three police officials, saying that all the suspects were nominated in the FIR at the instigation of police and NGOs’ focal persons. She said the nominated suspects were not involved and were falsely implicated by the police.

She asked the court to cancel her earlier statement and record a new one, which she said was of her own free will.

Meanwhile,
...back at the mall, Clarissa spent the day shopping for new underwear. Tonight was going to be a special occasion...
the police produced the four suspects in the court of the judicial magistrate for a five-day extension in their physical remand, as the police have recovered the gold ring and the money mentioned by the victim.

In view of the victim’s new application, judicial magistrate Mohammad Arshad turned down the request for an extension and sent the suspects to judicial lock-up. He directed the police to produce them in court on June 11 along with the case file and report.

The victim has alleged that she was in Bahria Town Phase 8 for Sehri on the night between 15 and 16 May when she was kidnapped and raped by four people, including three police officials.

Teacher booked for forcing minor boy to eat grass as punishment for forgetting lessons
[DAWN] LODHRAN: A schoolteacher was booked on Tuesday for forcing a minor boy to eat grass over his failure to learn a lesson at the Government Primary School, Fatehpur.

A video went viral on social media, showing seven-year-old Kashan, a student of pre-school, being forced to either eat grass or read out the lesson in front of his class fellows. The video clip shows Kashan forgetting his lesson and eating grass after being forced by his teacher, identified as Hamid Raza.

The teacher is working in the school on a contract basis. Muhammad Asghar, the father of Kashan, told Dawn that the incident happened two days back.

"The teacher is our relative and we forgive him for his act that he did as a joke," Mr Asghar said.

District Police Officer Malik Jameel Zafar took notice of the incident and directed the police to investigate into the video. He ordered strict action if the teacher was found guilty.

40 die in clashes in four Brazil prisons
[DAWN] At least 40 inmates were killed in four jails in northern Brazil on Monday, authorities said, in the latest wave of violence to rock the country’s severely overpopulated and dangerous prison system.
"Yep. At least forty!"
The victims appeared to have been killed by “asphyxiation,” the Amazonas state government said in a statement, a day after 15 people were killed in one of the prisons.
"Whaddya mean by 'asphyxiation?'"
"They stopped breathing."

Officials had initially put the number of dead at 42, but later revised the number to 40 without explanation.
"Forty two..."
"Hey! Wait a minute! I ain't dead!"
"Me, neither!"
"... forty people dead..."

Iran says they are ready for possibility of war with US
[al masdar] Iran is prepared for the possibility of war with the United States, but hopes instead that tensions between the two nations can be solved with dialogue, the country’s deputy foreign minister has said.

“We hope that we can start a dialogue, but we are ready for war,” Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi told RIA Novosti.

The comments by the Iranian Foreign Ministry comes just hours after U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton accused Tehran of carrying out a naval mine attack off the coast of the United Arab Emirates.

#4  IIRC, during the Iran-Iraq war, the Iranians used teenagers as minesweepers. The kids would walk across a minefield. When the discovered a mine, the got blown to bits, thereby getting rid of the mine. But the Iranian soldiers found this too disturbing. Not that kids were dying., but that they were leaving body parts all over the minefield. The solution was to have the kids wrap themselves in a blanket. That way, when they stepped on a mine, all the body parts stayed together. And, they were already in a burial shroud, so win-win!

Former US defense official: We know UFOs are real - here's why that's concerning
[FoxNews] Christopher Mellon, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, is involved with a new History Channel series, 'Unidentified,' which will expand on topics discussed in a recent New York Times article. In numerous interviews, Navy pilots revealed that they saw UFOs moving at hypersonic speeds, performing acts “beyond the physical limits of a human crew,” and emitting "no visible engine or infrared exhaust plumes."
“So the pilot said to me, he says, ‘There I wuz, no shit...’ ”
If you consider the astronomical time, energy and distance problems of an interstellar visitor wanting to visit Earth and play games with a bunch of USAF pilots it's well past highly unlikely.

There is a less unlikely scenario if they MUST NOT BE FROM Earth. That's something more like the "Long Earth" SciFi novel series. That one involves alternate Earths. If one has the ability to transit alternate universes the problem is with traversing alternate Earths. Look at the history of any patch of ground. It changes. If you move from your back patio in an alternate earth your patio might be a hi-rise basement and you just died materializing in cement. Now if one is high in the air or in space one could zip through many alternate realities much more safely. If you were good enough about it and a prankster .. see a USAF plane, pop out a dimension, move over and pop back in... now you look hyper-sonic... To be honest that's way over the top but not as much over the top as crossing space to come here.

To be honest ... as a teen I pulled a prank. A decade later, at a wedding, I ran into the ex-police helicopter pilot I had pulled it on. I was shocked to discover he had quit his job after my prank and become a major UFO researcher (because of my prank) - It's my bad karma. I felt bad for a few seconds and then said "what the hell" and went on with my life. UFOs.. spit...

Iraq condemns 7th Frenchman to death for ISIS membership
[Rudaw] A Baghdad court sentenced a Frenchie to death on Wednesday for joining the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group, bringing to seven the number of French jihadists on death row in Iraq.

Yassin Sakkam was among 12 French citizens transferred to Iraqi authorities in January by a US-backed force fighting the jihadist group in neighbouring Syria.

"I admit to having sworn allegiance" to ISIS, he told the court, saying he was paid $70 (62 euros) a month.

Sakkam, who was dressed in a yellow prison uniform and sported a closely cropped goatee, said he regretted his decision to join IS, and asked to be pardoned.

Sakkam, now aged 29, left La Belle France in late 2014 to fight for IS, posting pictures online of himself carrying arms and speaking to multiple media outlets about the group.

He became one of the most notorious jihadists from La Belle France, which has been seeking his arrest since 2016.

Kurdish authorities detained him in Syria in 2017.

His brother Karim carried out a suicide kaboom at the Iraqi-Jordanian border in 2015, according to the French Center for the Analysis of Terrorism.

'INHUMANE TREATMENT'
Also on Wednesday, an Iraqi court sentenced 24-year-old Tunisian Mohammed Berriri to death for joining ISIS, after a hearing lasting less than an hour.

Berriri, also dressed in a yellow prison uniform, admitted to joining IS, saying he thought it was "defending the weak", but said he now regretted doing so.

Sakkam and the six other French citizens handed death sentences in recent days have 30 days to appeal.

The remaining five French suspects face trial in the coming days.

Iraqi courts have dealt with a steady flow of jihadists ‐ with 500 foreign men and women already found guilty of having joined IS. None of those sentenced to death have so far been executed.

Meanwhile,

on Wednesday 188 children of Turks accused of belonging to the Islamic State group, a capital offence in Iraq, the judiciary said.

The move follows the repatriation to Tajikistan late last month of 84 children of nationals convicted by Iraqi courts of membership of IS or other jihadist groups.

That came after dozens of children were flown to Russia and after La Belle France and Germany repatriated the children of women nationals detained in Iraq.

U.S. Warns Hong Kong to Avoid Tanker in Breach of Iran Sanctions
[gCaptain] The U.S. warned Hong Kong that it could face penalties if it does business with an oil tanker headed for the city that allegedly violated sanctions on Iran.

Washington wants to put China and the autonomous city on notice that it will aggressively and consistently enforce its Iran sanctions, a senior U.S. official said on Tuesday, speaking on condition of anonymity. The official said China would be informed that any entity doing business with the ship would expose it to U.S. sanctions.

The attention levied on this single vessel, the Pacific Bravo, underscores Washington's desire to stymie Iran's oil exports. Relations between the two sides have deteriorated sharply in recent weeks, following President Donald Trump's pledge to force Iran's vital oil exports down to zero and a revocation of key sanctions waivers.

The Pacific Bravo is owned by China's Bank of Kunlun, according to the senior U.S. official. Reuters reported in October that the bank ‐ once Beijing's major channel for transactions with Iran ‐ would stop handling such payments due to sanctions pressure.

Next Stop
While the U.S. official said the tanker is heading to Hong Kong, ship-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg shows a vessel called the Pacific Bravo off the coast of Sri Lanka and signaling Indonesia as its next stop.

The senior U.S. official said it was imperative that Hong Kong authorities prevent the vessel from docking or allowing local entities from providing services to ships that might misrepresent themselves in order to avoid exposing themselves to sanctions violations.

Washington wants to make clear that anyone doing business with Iran, won't be doing business with the U.S., the official said, adding that there would be more sanctions to come.

An emailed request for comment to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority wasn't immediately returned on Tuesday evening. The city's Maritime Department referred an earlier request to the relevant bureau.

Rising Tensions

Reuters reported on May 16 that a tanker in violation of U.S. sanctions had unloaded close to 130,000 tons of Iranian fuel oil into storage tanks near the eastern Chinese city of Zhoushan. It had earlier reported that a batch of Iranian fuel oil had sidestepped American sanctions on petroleum exports by using ship-to-ship transfers involving four vessels including that tanker ‐ the Marshal Z.

Trump has increased pressure on Iran since taking office, exiting the landmark 2015 nuclear deal that gave the Islamic Republic sanctions relief in exchange for curbs on its disputed nuclear program.

Senior Iranian officials have made recent tours of neighboring countries in an effort to boost support, after the U.S. announced it would increase troop deployments in the Middle East and sell weapons to some of Iran's rivals.

Trade resumes at Torkham border after two days

There was no official word about the conclusion of talks from the office of Torkham assistant collector customs, however, the local traders and custom clearing agents, who participated in the negotiations, told Dawn that goods clearance was restarted on the previous method of examination of more than one loaded vehicle by just one Goods Deceleration (GD) form.

They said that custom officials granted them permission of continuing previous method on the condition that the new mechanism of one GD form for just one vehicle would be implemented a week after Eidul Fitr.

Southeast Asia
Three Killed in Ramadan Violence in Restive Thai South
[AnNahar] Two people, including a 14-year-old boy, were killed in a market place bombing in Thailand's Moslem-majority south, a military front man said Tuesday -- an apparent retaliatory attack for the killing of a wanted rebel leader.

Thailand's three southernmost provinces, Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat, have since 2004 been plagued with conflict between ethnic Malay-Moslem rebels and the Buddhist-majority Thai state, which annexed the region around a century ago.

Around 7,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in violence that rarely makes international headlines despite taking place a few hours south of some of Thailand's tourist hotspots.

On Monday afternoon, the forces of Evil detonated a cycle of violence bomb at a crowded market place in Nong Chik, Pattani province, killing two civilians.

"A 14-year-old boy and a 38-year-old woman died," Colonel Thanawee Suwannathat, front man for the southern army, told AFP.

Four military rangers were maimed in the blast.

The bombing appeared to be in "retaliation" for the death of a runaway suspected rebel leader in neighbouring Yala province earlier in the day, who was rubbed out as authorities surrounded his house, Thanawee told AFP.

The 37-year-old suspect, named as Abdulloh Lateh, was "head of operations" in the Yaha district.

The highly secretive rebels, who are pushing for autonomy from Thailand, operate in small village cells, with their big shots based overseas far from the reach of Thai authorities.

The grinding conflict is characterised by tit-for-tat attacks that usually target symbols of the Thai state and its security forces but civilians from both Moslem and Buddhist communities often get caught in the crossfire.

The region usually sees an uptick in violence during the Moslem holy month of Ramadan, which ends next week.

Monday's violence came a day after another kaboom in Songkhla province killed a police officer at a checkpoint, wounding three others.

Video footage of Sunday's attack showed a plume of thick smoke as the blast went off, leaving a police officer's body lying in the middle of the road.

Thailand's junta leader Prayut Chan-O-Cha -- who is expected to return as a civilian prime minister in the coming days -- condemned the latest attacks as "inhuman".

Peace talks have been inconclusive despite an intensification of army operations in the border zone with Malaysia.

The murder of history

A decade earlier, Major Zia’s moment of glory came on the evening of March 27, 1971.

In the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he proclaimed to the world that the people of Bangladesh were a free nation, that to dub the majority population of Pakistain as secessionists was "a cruel joke" which ought to "befool none," that indeed the world’s powerful nations should be according recognition to a nation struggling to be born out of calamitous darkness.

21 civilians dead as Syrian planes pound Idlib
[DAWN] At least 21 non-combatants were killed on Tuesday as Syria’s regime intensified its bombardment of the last jihadist stronghold in the country’s northwest, a monitor said.

Nine children were among the 21 killed in government fire on several towns in Idlib province and the countryside of neighbouring Aleppo, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Strikes on a busy street in the village of Kafr Halab, on the western edge of Aleppo province, killed at least nine civilians.

A photographer said the bodies of the victims were torn apart and several stores lining the side of the road were destroyed.

The street was crowded with people out and about before breaking the daytime fast observed by Moslems during Ramazan.

A hospital in the Idlib town of Kafranbel was also hit by artillery shells, said David Swanson, a front man for the UN humanitarian office.

"The facility is reportedly out of service due to severe structural damage," he said.

The hospital’s administrative director Majed al-Akraa confirmed the attack. "The hospital is completely out of service," he said. "It was a strong attack. The generators and even my car caught fire," he said.

It follows two days of intensified regime bombardment on the region that killed a total of 31 civilians on Sunday and Monday, according to the Britannia-based Observatory.

Sen. Cruz also weighed in and called out the Democratic Party for apparently believing that "Hispanic immigrants can’t qualify for skills-based legal immigration."

"As the son of a Cuban immigrant whose Dad came to get a math degree & become a computer programmer, I’m troubled that Dems seem to believe Hispanic immigrants can’t qualify for skills-based legal immigration," Cruz tweeted. "Bringing in more scientists, engineers & doctors is good for US jobs."

Rep. Omar's office did not immediately respond to Fox News' request for comment.

#1  So says AOC, "Our immigration policies shouldn't be based on discrimination, fear, or bigotry"

First, we haven't had any reasonable, viable and sane immigration policy for quite awhile.Second, this can has been kicked down the road by both parties. Third, it the duty of this country to decide who comes into this country and on what basis.

Robert Mueller’s ‘final statement’ was a disgraceful mess
[NYPOST] Special prosecutor Robert Mueller’s statement upon the shuttering of his two-year investigation into the Trump campaign was weird even by the standards of the weirdness of the past couple of years. “Charging the president with a crime was not something we could consider,” he reported. Indeed, even pursuing that question, he added, would have been unconstitutional under long-standing Justice Department guidelines.

But then he said that if his office could have exonerated the president, it would have: “If we had confidence the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so.”
But you can't prove a negative, so too bad.

Two years of investigation, $40m down the drain? What was it then, you were doing may I ask ?

Dyed in the wool Clinton operative, reminding the congress of their impeachment duties, without using the work impeachment. Mueller has erased any doubt regarding his objectivity or intentions.

#2  The Mueller proctology probe was created with a lie by a disgraced FBI director. The phony basis for it was funded by the DNC and HRC. That's the simple version. There is a cast of many others complicit in this treason. This rotting fish needs to be buried deep forever and those who served it up dealt with.

The Dems are dumbos to keep pushing it. It will blowback on them in the coming elections.

Britain
UK Academic Sacked over Antisemitism, Holocaust Denial
[BREITBART] A science lecturer at the UK’s University of Essex has lost his job after an antisemitism fight sparked by the formation of a campus Jewish society.

Concerns were raised at the university over Facebook posts ‐ since deleted ‐ by Dr Maaruf Ali which were alleged to have included Holocaust denial, opposition to the creation of a Jewish society at the university in February and conspiracy theories about Zionism.

Dr Ali denied being anti-Semitic or denying the Holocaust and said his vote against the society had been against the ideology of Zionism.

The BBC reports he said: "I am not against Jews, I don’t hate their religion, their people or their culture.
"Such as it is"
"I believe that everyone should be allowed to form any society. This is what I’m thinking now ‐ which is what I didn’t think at the time."
"I'm all better now"
He added that he was objecting to the climate in present day Israel and had never asked for the destruction of the state of Israel.
"Don't fire me"
A University of Essex statement confirmed a member of staff had been dismissed following a tribunal hearing.

"The university has now completed an independent investigation into the serious allegations made against a member of university staff," it added.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Chicago mom fatally shot while shielding baby from gunfire
[NYPOST] A young Chicago mom was fatally shot while shielding her 1-year-old daughter from gunfire outside her home, police said.

Brittany Hill, 24, had just gotten out of a car and was holding her girl when someone opened fire from a silver Chevrolet Impala around 8:50 a.m. Tuesday in a neighborhood on Chicago’s West Side, cops said.

Hill was shot in her right side, but managed to take cover behind a car and place her body over her baby, said police spokeswoman Michelle Tannehill, according to the Chicago Tribune.

“She shielded the baby from the gunfire,” Tannehill said.

Hill, whose young son was also nearby when the shooting erupted, was pronounced dead at West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park. Her daughter was not injured.

Investigators believe the shooter was targeting three people who were near Hill in a possible gang-related attack.

“This is not a random act of violence, unfortunately,” Tannehill said, according to the Tribune. “It could possibly have been a targeted incident due to gang conflicts and retaliations in the area.”
"Because as we all know, random violence is a fortunate thing. Unfortunately, this wasn't random, so she just kinda got in the way. Nobody coulda foreseen that she was gonna be right there right then, or that she was the kinda mother who would shield her kid from flying lead. If she'd gotten an abortion, this would never have happened."

Sweden Muslim Foundation Files Police Complaint After Mohammed Cartoons Discovered
[BREITBART] A Moslem organization in the Swedish city of Växjö have complained to local police after claiming to have found posters in an area of the city that caricatures the Moslem prophet, Mohammed.

Members of the Växjö Moslem Foundation made reports to the local police saying that they had discovered several posters depicting and insulting the prophet Mohammed in the Araby area of the city in Nydalavägen, Hjalmar Petris road and the Ulriksberg promenade, Swedish broadcaster Sveriges Radio reports.

Police front man Robert Loeffel labelled the posters as being offensive to the local Moslem community but did not divulge what was actually portrayed on the posters themselves. The police did say that they were considering the posters as a crime, describing it as hate against an ethnic group.

The Växjö Moslem Foundation came into prominence last year after they demanded the city grant them the right to publically broadcast the Islamic call to prayer on loudspeakers every Friday. "We are just wanting Sweden to allow Moslems in Växjö to feel even more at home. The Islamic community should be proud of their culture, and not feel like they have to hide," Imam Ismail Abu Helal said at the time.
"We just wanta make ourselves feel at home, bub. Know whudda mean?"

Turkish jets pound suspected PKK positions in Duhok
[Rudaw] Ottoman Turkish fighter jets bombed suspected Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) positions on Kurazhar Mountain near the town of Shiladze, Duhok province early on Wednesday, a local official confirmed. There are currently no reports of casualties.

"This is the second time Ottoman Turkish planes have bombed Kurazhar Mountain this week," Warshin Salman, a local councilor, told Rudaw.

The sound of jets and kabooms has spread fear and panic among villagers, he said.

"There was shelling and bombing in the past, but this has recently turned into a weekly occurrence. They bomb these places once or twice a week," Salman added.

There are 348 villages in the area surrounding the town of Amedi, Duhok province. Of these, 198 have stood empty for the past 20 years after Ottoman Turkish strikes forced residents to evacuate.

Amedi and its surrounding villages are today home to around 118,000 people.

6 suspected facilitators of 2017 Peshawar ATI attack acquitted by ATC
[DAWN] A Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
anti-terrorism court on Wednesday acquitted six people accused of facilitating the 2017 attack on Peshawar’s Agriculture Training Institute (ATI).

On December 1, 2017, three burqa-clad Lions of Islam stormed the ATI hostel near Peshawar's University Road on December 1, 2017, killing nine people and injuring 37 others. Police and military officials said the attackers had been coordinating with handlers in Afghanistan. The attack had been claimed by the Tehrik-e-Taliban

nine suspects following the attack, while 16 people were nominated in a first information report registered against the attack.

Hearings of the case started on July 10, 2018 and on July 21, 2018 the accused were inducted in the case. 29 witnesses including injury students recorded their statements as the case progressed.

The suspects were charged with aiding, abatement, preparation, planning and facilitating the attackers that orchestrated the ATI attack.

ATC III judge Mehmoodul Hassan Khattak pronounced the short order which was reserved a few weeks ago. The order acquitted six suspects nominated in the case, including a woman.

The suspects were acquitted due to lack of evidence that connects them with with the hard boys, said Shabbir Hussain Gigyani, the defence lawyer.

Far-Left Extremist Arrested in Connection with Salvini Party Office Bombing
[BREITBART] Police in northern Italia have locked away
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
a far-left murderous Moslem in connection with the bombing of an office belonging to the League party of populist Italian interior minister Matteo Salvini.

The arrest comes after a long and in-depth investigation by the anti-mafia prosecutor’s office of Venice which determined the identity of the suspect who is believed to be close to the far-left anarchist scene, Il Giornale reports.

The suspect has been named in Italian media as Spanish anarchist Juan Antonio Sorroche Fernandez, 42, who had been on the run from Italian authorities since 2017 for previous offences.

The bombing occurred in August last year and saw one bomb exploding just steps away from the office in the city of Treviso near Venice.

Another nearby device, which was later disarmed, was rigged in order to be tripped by police or other emergency services workers responding to the first device. The detonation of the second bomb would likely have resulted in severe injury or death as it was reported to have contained nails and other fragments of metal.

A group, known as the "Santiago Maldonado Cell", took credit for the attack soon after it occurred stating: "Direct action makes us clear as to why and how. For an internationalist, rebellious, anarchist solidarity! For a world without borders or authority!" The group had also taken credit for a previous bombing at a cop shoppe in Rome.

French Government Forces Traditional Rebuild of Notre Dame
[BREITBART] The French Senate has voted to reject the plans for rebuilding Notre Dame cathedral in Gay Paree put forward by the French executive including President Emmanuel Macron who wanted an "inventive reconstruction", mandating that the work must be traditional.
One guy wanted to put a public pool upstairs.
That would have been one way to shortcut the amount of time needed to get water up there to put the next fire out. Oh well.
The vote by the Senate may put to rest concerns over the fate of the globally renowned Notre Dame cathedral which was severely damaged by fire in April, which has been further threatened by suggestions the promised rebuild be led by a modernist architect. Now the cathedral and spire must resemble "the last known visual condition" before the fire, meaning a totally traditional rebuild.
