Baltimore Cops To Sue Marilyn Mosby For '€˜Malicious Prosecution'
h/t Instapundit
Baltimore State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby will face a slew of new counts, including malicious prosecution and false arrest in a lawsuit brought by two Baltimore cops, The Daily Caller News Foundation has learned.

Sgt. Alicia White and Officer William Porter, two officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray, filed suit May 2 against Mosby and Maj. Sam Cogen of the Baltimore Sheriff's office for defamation and invasion of privacy. The suit alleges Mosby and Cogen knew the charges were trumped up, but filed them anyway to quell the riots that had ravaged the city.

Unredacted DHS OIG Report on San Bernardino incident with HSI Special Agents
Background:

On December 2, 2015, Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik, dressed in tactical gear and armed with .223 assault rifles, semiautomatic handguns, and body armor, opened fire during a holiday party at Farook's place of employment and killed 14 people and injured 22. The pair fled the scene in a black SUV, but left behind three different explosive devices. It took authorities several hours to render the scene safe and account for the dead and wounded. The attack, and the fact that the couple had not yet been apprehended, paralyzed the surrounding area. Residents were advised to stay indoors and at least one school was placed in lockdown. Later that day, police responded to a tip and, in a shootout in which hundreds of rounds were fired, killed the couple. Police discovered over 1,600 unused rounds of ammunition in their vehicle. A broad federal terrorism investigation ensued, which is continuing. Immediately after the attack, authorities did not know the full identity of those involved or whether further attacks were planned. It is in this context that the following events occurred.

Both lengthy and appalling.

#1  So if I understand correctly, the immigration person said you coppers can't come into my facility without my permission, and I don't have to give you any files pertaining to the San Bernardino shooting, since these files are protected?

And that both of these assertions were later found to be, shall we say, bogus?

Wasn't interagency cooperation supposed to happen after 9/11?

Who appointed this moron?

It gets better:

the report last week faulted [Martin] for making agents wait more than 90 minutes before she gave them access to related files on the suspected terrorist, and then she dismissively ordered them to hand copy files, according to the federal report.

Texas Dem Representative to Trump: 'Take Your Border Wall and shove it'
[Breitbart] A Democrat Texas congressman told Donald Trump to take the border wall and "shove it up your ass."

"Mr. Trump, you’re a racist and you can take your border wall and shove it up your ass," Congressman Filemon Vela (D-TX) wrote in an open letter to Mr. Trump Monday morning. The comment comes at the end of a lengthy litany of complaints against the presumptive GOP nominee written from his campaign office obtained by Breitbart Texas and attached below.

Filemon represents the southeastern most district of Texas that includes the border community of Brownsville, just across the river from Matamoros, Mexico, the scene of a violent civil war between members of the Gulf Cartel fighting for control of the region. Breitbart Texas has reported extensively about the violence in this area.

A spokesman for the Vela campaign told Breitbart Texas, "We are getting a lot of interest about ’The Letter.'"

He begins the letter with areas where he agrees with Trump ‐ Veterans issues, cartel violence and corruption in the Mexican government, and criminal illegal alien felons who "should be immediately deported." He says there are even other areas upon which he would agree.

However, your ignorant anti-immigrant opinions, your border wall rhetoric, and your recent bigoted attack on an American jurist are just plain despicable.

The letter, written in English and Spanish, delves into the history of Americans of Mexican descent and says Trump mistakenly refers to them as "Mexicans." He says many of them have valiantly served the United States in every conflict since the Civil War. He then goes on to list some Hispanic Medal of Honor recipients.

#6  Decades of pandering by irresponsible politicians like the Bushes and the Clintons have given these people the notion they have a right to break our laws. They think they should be able to smuggle drugs and people with impunity and anyone who objects is a racist. They need to be disabused of that notion.

#7  I used to regard it as a running joke when one of the regulars here (I forget who) commented that the Democrats are trying to replace the voters with others. it took a bit of time, but this---inDUHvidual's--- open letter helped me see how literally true it is. Essentially, the demoncrat argues that since Mexican American CITIZENS have helped and contributed to the US in the past positively, that Mexican MEXICAN people (non American Citizens) are deserving of equal, if not more, regard than American CITIZENS.

If the border wall was being built on the Mason-Dixon line to isolate some American citizens from the rest of the United States, then I would rightly be upset, but its being built to keep out Mexican Citizens (who are not American Citizens), who are clearly depriving American Citizens of benefits.

This Demoncrat is part of a rebellious government that seeks to disenfranchise the citizens it is supposed to serve. Take what happened at the trump rally in California: American citizens beaten and intimidated by non-American citizens, and representatives of the local AMERICAN government refuse to protect American citizens.

Recall that the Nazis, when they began their persecutions of the German Jews, were doing it against THEIR OWN CITIZENS first. That's the tripwire, and governments run by democrats have repeatedly tripped that wire in our country for a long time.

My apologies for not catching on earlier.

#10  Ebbang Uluque6305 says, "They think they should be able to smuggle drugs and people with impunity and anyone who objects is a racist."

Actually I think the politicians know they can spin Trump's comments anyway they want and be believed by Dem voters. They are amping up the rhetoric hoping for turnout so they don't lose their jobs (or at least the cushy assignments on various panels controlled by the majority party). Decades of not countering the bull has led to this.

Cal Thomas: Hillary and the '€˜what if' scenarios
[Wash Times] Some believe that soon after Tuesday's final presidential primaries the FBI will interview Hillary Clinton about her handling of emails while she was secretary of state. What comes next is the subject of much speculation.

One of the better speculators is Bradley Blakeman, who served as a member of President George W. Bush’s White House staff.

We spoke in the "green room" at Fox News before our separate interviews. The following is culled from our conversation.

Mr. Blakeman says the FBI has deliberately waited to interview Hillary Clinton until after the primaries because the bureau did not want to interfere with the nominating process. He thinks the FBI is "likely" to recommend to the Department of Justice whether or not she should be indicted for violating what she says are agency rules and what others call the law between now and the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, which begins July 25.

If she is indicted before the convention, Mr. Blakeman says, it will give the party an opportunity to make changes in the rules that could result in an alternate nominee.

Here is the intriguing part about Mr. Blakeman's scenario: "If a grand jury is empaneled, or if she were to be indicted before the convention, the Democrats would have to let her go." If an indictment were to come after the convention, he says, it presents a different problem because each state needs to certify their ballots before November. If an indictment occurs after the states have certified their ballots, it would be nearly impossible to replace Hillary Clinton with another candidate.

#3  Here is the intriguing part about Mr. Blakeman's scenario: "If a grand jury is empaneled, or if she were to be indicted before the convention, the Democrats would have to let her go."

Why? This would be true if Hillary were a Republican; the cry for her to step aside would be deafening. But for a Democrat? I don't think so. To most Democrats, a Hillary indictment would merely be proof that she's a poor, helpless victim of that ancient, evil cabal: the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.

I predict that if Hillary is indicted, Democrats will flock to the polls in droves come November to vote for her.

Posted by: rjschwarz || 06/07/2016 14:10 Comments || Top||

#8  Regardless, the indictment before or after the convention, will contaminate the election process for president. Can't be helped. Think about it. We have gone through this long primary, supposedly to select the person that will run as the Party's candidate for President.

Now, if the nominee is indicted before the convention, that person can still run, just with a bunch of lawyers throwing continuances at the court. Same for after the convention. If things look really bad in the indictment, then the nominee could step down, but does not have to. This can drag out to next year. You could even have a president taking office and still under indictment.

If a candidate steps down, gets incapacitated, or removed from the gene pool, then we are in new territory. Where is the authority to run a new candidate to replace the selected one? This country will have one hell of a fight on our hands. The issue is power, but it is mainly who controls the money. There is the control at stake of trillions of dollars. One hell of a fight with super high stakes. Newest untrodden territory since 1861.

Suspect held over Jordan attack on intelligence agents
[IsraelTimes] Jordanian authorities have tossed in the clink
You have the right to remain silent...
a suspect accused of gunning down five intelligence agents on Monday in their office at a Paleostinian refugee camp.

"Investigations are under way but early indications are that this was an isolated and individual act," said government front man Mohammed Momani, announcing the arrest without identifying the suspect.

The gunman struck at Baqaa camp north of the capital early Monday -- the first day of the Moslem holy month of Ramadan -- in what Momani called a "terrorist attack."

The suspect expeditiously departed at a goodly pace after the killings.

A security source told AFP he was arrested later at a mosque in the Salt region north of Amman.

The suspect was armed and resisted arrest, the source said, adding that a police officer had been injured in the swoop.

No group has grabbed credit for the attack.

The five agents, who had been starting their shift, were buried later in the day in their home towns, with hundreds of members of the security services in attendance.

China-Japan-Koreas
Taiwan won't recognize Chinese defense zone over S China Sea
Taiwan’s new defense minister said on Monday the island would not recognize any air defense zone declared by China over the South China Sea, as the island’s top security agency warned such a move could usher in a wave of regional tension.

"We will not recognize any ADIZ by China," Taiwan defense minister Feng Shih-kuan told lawmakers in a parliamentary session.

The comments come after Taiwan’s new government of President Tsai Ing-wen, of the independence-leaning ruling party, was sworn into power last month. Tsai’s Democratic Progressive Party overturned eight-years of China-friendly Nationalist rule on the island.

"In the future, we don’t rule out China designating an ADIZ. If China is on track to announce this, it could usher in a new wave of tension in the region," Taiwan’s National Security Bureau said in a report presented to parliament.

Taiwan’s defense ministry said in its own report it would strengthen its defenses on Pratas Island, in the north of the South China Sea, and on Itu Aba in the Spratly Islands.

The ministry said China is building up of its military presence in the South China Sea with deployments of anti-missile systems, drones and fast missile ships in the area.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
AP: US cities see 'unexplained' rise in violent crimes this year
[MSN] Violent crimes -- from homicides and rapes to robberies -- have been on the rise in many major U.S. cities, yet experts can't point to a single reason why and the jump isn't enough to suggest there's a trend.

Still, it is stumping law enforcement officials, who are seeking a way to combat the problem.
What political party controls all these cities?
"It's being reported on at local levels, but in my view, it's not getting the attention at the national level it deserves," FBI Director James Comey said recently. "I don't know what the answer is, but holy cow, do we have a problem."
Thug Lives Matter, maybe?
Americans have grown accustomed to low crime rates since a peak in the 1990s. But law enforcement started seeing a spike last year that has continued unabated. What's unusual, however, is that it's not happening everywhere. reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
... home of Al Capone, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel,...
and Los Angeles are seeing homicides on the rise, but other places like Miami and Oakland are not.

Russia vows air support for Syrian troops in Aleppo
[Iran Press TV] Russia has vowed to provide Syrian government troops with the "the most active" air support around Aleppo following the death of scores of people during fierce clashes with terrorists over the weekend.

During a press conference held in Moscow on Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov added that the so-called moderate opposition groups had been given enough time to leave the city. Washington recently asked Moscow to stop conducting airstrikes against the al-Nusra Front terrorists in Syria over fears of hitting the US-backed groups fighting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government.

The biggest worry in crisis-ridden Venezuela: crime
Long piece at the LA Times. Strangely, the reporter waxes on in multiple paragraphs about the crime problems of this long suffering country without connecting the dots to understand that it's the socialists of the Chavez/Maduro government that have wrecked the country. Apparently it's all just "bad luck" in the Heinlein sense.

And clearly the reporter doesn't get that Bernie, Hilarity and the DNC would do the same thing to the U.S. if only they could.

#1  History and pattern analysis are actually quite revealing. The rape of a nation by socialist oligarchy is generally followed by food riots and peasant crime. The rape of a nation by democratically elected oligarchy is more insidious and takes a bit longer. The resultant patterns of political turmoil, inflation, shortages, unrest, and exodus are pretty much the same. In either case, I'm not betting on the peasants. They seem to always finish last.

Taiz is Subjected to a Fourth Day of Rebel Bombing
The province of Taiz witnessed a bloody day yesterday when violent confrontations raged between legitimate forces, the national army and the Popular Resistance on one hand, and Houthi militias and forces loyal to the deposed president Ali Abdullah Saleh, on the other hand. These confrontations came amidst great progress made by the legitimate government’s forces on battle fronts through their confrontations with rebel militias.

National Army troops and the Popular Resistance managed to seize important sites and buildings that were under the rebel militias’ control. These include the house of Mohammed Abdullah Saleh, the brother of the ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh in the Thabat neighbourhood, east of the city of Taiz. The building was seized after the rebel militia fled from it. They also abandoned an International Medical Corps (IMC) building which allowed heroes from the Popular Resistance to seize it yesterday morning. It was previously a major obstacle to the legitimate government’s progress because a number of snipers belonging to the rebel militias had been stationed in it.

A spokesman for the military council in the Taiz governorate Colonel General Mansour Al-Hassani told Asharq Al-Awsat that “Houthi militia and forces loyal to the deposed president Saleh have been bombing Taiz with all types of heavy weapons for four days, and dozens of bombs fall on neighbourhoods and residential areas on a daily basis”.

Misratan commander killed as IS camp overrun
[Libya Herald] A top Misratan commander was shot and killed today by a sniper. Omar Al-Hassan of the 166 Brigade was hit by a single shot in what appears to have been an IS ambush to the south of Sirte .

Hassan’s brigade, backed by newly-arrived forces from Jufra overran the "Saad katiba" camp at Bohadi.

Hassan was one of at least two fighters to be killed today in the Bunyan Marsous operation against IS. Misrata Central Hospital reported it had received 20 maimed in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile it is being reported that hundreds of families in Sirte itself have been sending pleas for help. They said that the town was being "strangled" by IS. This apparently referred to preparations the Lions of Islam are making to withstand an assault.

It maybe however that some IS people are seeking to escape the town by heading south. It was being claimed today that six Sudanese, suspected of being IS members, had been placed in durance vile

last week in Khirbet Daoud in Akkar confessed to have carried out several sniper operations against military vehicles, in addition to the liquidation of Badr Eid in 2015, al-Joumhouria daily reported on Monday.

One of the detainees, Jassem Saadeddine confessed to the liquidation of Badr Eid, the brother of late MP Ali Eid, in 2015 in an armed ambush on the al-Kwaykhat-al-Hisa road in Akkar, said the daily.

Members of the cell admitted to have targeted military vehicles with sniper operations, in addition to shooting an Information Branch first adjutant.

The cell was able to carry out several operations over a four-year period without being caught by police, added the daily.

On Sunday, the army was able to clamp down on another cell in the eastern town of Majdal Anjar, where it arrested two suspects and seized a quantity of weapons including an boom belt.

The raid targeted a farm where Syrians are residing and two houses belonging to members of the Khanjar family, reports said.

The army and security forces have in recent days arrested numerous terror suspects, amid warnings of a possible attack in the country.

Palestinian Shot in Clashes with Israeli Forces Dies from Wounds
[An Nahar] A Paleostinian maimed during festivities with Israeli soldiers escorting Jewish pilgrims at a holy site in the occupied West Bank died from his injuries on Monday, the Paleostinian health ministry said.

Jamal Dweikat, 20, was shot in the head on Friday near Joseph's Tomb on the outskirts of Nablus. The tomb is the site of regular festivities.

Many Jews believe the tomb holds the remains of the biblical patriarch Joseph, one of the 12 sons of Jacob. Paleostinians believe an Islamic holy man, Sheikh Yussef (Joseph) Dweikat, was buried there two centuries ago.

It is located in the northern West Bank in an area under Paleostinian security control.

Once per month, the Israeli army authorizes visits to the tomb by Jewish pilgrims, carried out at night. Hundreds visited overnight Thursday to Friday, provoking another round of festivities.

EU Seeks U.N. Backing to Enforce Libya Arms Embargo
[An Nahar] EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini asked the U.N. Security Council Monday to authorize the EU naval force in the Mediterranean to enforce the arms embargo on Libya.

The appeal came as the 15-member council was considering a draft resolution that would allow Operation Sophia to intercept vessels suspected of transporting weapons to Libya.

"We ask this council to adopt a resolution on authorizing Operation Sophia to enforce the U.N. arms embargo on the high seas off the coast of Libya," Mogherini told the council.

Operation Sophia's enforcement of the arms embargo would help shore up the U.N.-backed national unity government by cutting off the flow of weapons to the various militias.

'Indications' N. Korea Has Reactivated Plutonium Plant
[An Nahar] North Korea may have reactivated a plant for reprocessing plutonium for use in nuclear weapons, the U.N. atomic watchdog said Monday, citing satellite imagery and echoing recent comments from a U.S. think-tank.

"The indications that we have obtained... (are of) activities related to the five-megawatt reactor, expansion of enrichment facilities and activities related to (plutonium) reprocessing," ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency head Yukiya Amano said.

"However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
as we do not have inspectors on the ground we are only observing through satellite imagery. We cannot say for sure. But we have indications of certain activities through the satellite imagery," Amano told a regular news conference in Vienna.

He said that the indications spotted at the main Yongbyon complex included the "movement of vehicles, steam, discharge of warm waters or transport of material."

The type of plutonium suitable for a nuclear bomb typically needs to be extracted from spent nuclear reactor fuel.

North Korea mothballed the Yongbyon reactor in 2007 under an aid-for-disarmament accord, but began renovating it after its third nuclear test in 2013. It carried test out a fourth on January 6.

New Niger Delta Militant Group Warns of Widespread Attacks
[An Nahar] A new rebel group on Monday vowed to attack strategic targets across Nigeria, despite calls for a united front but no "life-threatening actions" from other gunnies who have claimed recent strikes on oil facilities.

The group, calling itself the Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force (JNDLF), said it would hit "all those infrastructures that were built with our oil and gas monies in this country".

The list of targets included the presidential villa, government ministries, parliament, the state-run oil firm and the central bank in Abuja, plus the offices of oil majors and the military.

"We will make (the) federal government and oil companies suffer as they have made the people of the Niger Delta region suffer over the years from environmental degradation and environmental pollution," the JNDLF's "Joint Revolutionary Council" said.

Most of the recent attacks on oil facilities in the oil-rich south have been claimed by the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), who want a fairer share of revenue from the sector for local people.

The NDA's sabotage of pipelines and attacks on installations have hit crude production, forcing output down to about 1.4 million barrels day, instead of a budgeted-for 2.2 million bpd.

for 10 years on on a terrorism charge, his lawyer said Monday, weeks after ex-leader Mohammed Nasheed was granted asylum in Britannia.

With Adeeb's sentencing, almost all of President Abdulla Yameen's key rivals are either in jail or living in exile.

The tiny nation of 340,000 Sunni Moslems has been gripped by political turmoil since Nasheed -- its first democratically-elected president -- was toppled four years ago in what he claimed was a coup led by mutinous police and troops.

Nasheed -- whose legal team includes high-profile human rights

lawyer Amal Clooney -- was sentenced to 13 years on controversial terrorism charges last year but was allowed to travel to Britannia for surgery last month and was granted political asylum.

Adeeb's lawyer Moosa Siraj told news hounds that his client was convicted on Sunday night following a closed-door trial based on witness testimony that Adeeb brandished a handgun at an opposition rally in May last year.

"It is an unfair trial and we will appeal against the verdict at the High Court," Siraj told news hounds in Male.

A court official said the case record will not be released to the public as it was considered a matter affecting national security.

Civilian killed as gunmen attack airport in Yemen’s Aden
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Suspected turbans attacked the airport in Yemen's government-held second city Aden on Monday sparking a firefight in which at least one civilian was killed, a security source said.

Around 20 gunnies stormed the main entrance road to the airport in the city's Khormaksar district, demanding the release of a fellow myrmidon of Western origin who was detained late last month.

Airport guards repulsed the attack after a 90-minute shootout, the source said, adding that the civilian was killed by a stray bullet.

The gunnies's leader told security forces he was a close relative of the detained jihadist, a Western national of Algerian origin.

The detained Westerner was among seven suspected members of the ISIS group whose arrest was announced by the authorities in Aden on May 28.

s’ (ISIS) stronghold city of Raqqa on Monday as the group comes under pressure from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Manbij.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor group reported that Syrian special forces, known as ’Desert Hawks’, are approaching the Tabqa airbase, lost to ISIS in August 2014.

The Syrian military is approximately forty kilometers upstream of the Euphrates River from the city of Raqqa.

The beginning of the offensive last Wednesday marked the first time that the Syrian military has had a presence on the ground in Raqqa province since the loss of al-Tabqa airbase.

As of Monday 70 ISIS Death Eaters and nine Syrian soldiers have been killed as part of this offensive.

It comes shortly after the Kurdish-led SDF launched an offensive to capture parts of the northern Raqqa province countryside late last month and shortly after they launched another offensive to capture the ISIS-held town of Manbij.

The SDF offensives are being backed by US-led coalition Arclight airstrikes while the Syrian military offensive into Raqqa is backed by Syria’s "Russian friends", as the country’s official SANA news agency phrased it.

Recapturing Tabqa airbase, which is also situated near the Tabqa Dam, is a key goal of this Syrian offensive.

The SDF also hope to capture Tabqa as part of their offensive given its strategic significance and proximity to ISIS’s Raqqa stronghold.

This Syrian offensive constitutes the most significant action Damascus has taken against ISIS since it recaptured the ancient city of Palmyra from the group, late last March.

Russia says its warplanes did not hit Syrian market in east
"Wudn't us. Musta been the Ruritaneans. Have you seen any brilliantly white ostrich feathers lying about?"
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Russian warplanes did not hit the Syrian town of Ashara in the eastern province of Deir al-Zor on Monday where at least 17 people were reportedly killed in an air raid, Russia’s Defence Ministry said in a statement.

Russia’s air forces did not carry out any combat missions in the area, Russian news agencies quoted Defence Ministry front man Igor Konashenkov as saying.

Syrian and Russian warplanes killed at least 17 people in an air raid on a market in Ashara, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group reported. Eight children were among those killed and the toll was expected to rise, it said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the strikes on Al-Asharah, a town held by ISIS in Deir Ezzor province, were suspected to have been carried out by either Russian or Syrian government planes.

"The market was overcrowded on Monday because people were shopping for Ramadan," Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.

He said many of those killed were from the same family, and that the corpse count was likely to rise because of the serious condition of some of the maimed.

Residents of nearby villages typically flock to Al-Asharah market to do their shopping, Abdel Rahman said.

Heavy air strikes hit IS-held areas in and outside the divided city of Deir Ezzor from early Monday, he said.

ISIS controls more than 60 percent of the city, besieging an estimated 200,000 people there.

The krazed killer group also controls most of the surrounding oil-rich province by the same name.

Seven ISIL terrorists militants killed in Turkish, coalition strikes
Seven terrorists militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), who were preparing to stage a rocket attack on Turkey, were killed on June 5 in Turkish shelling and airstrikes by the U.S.-led anti-ISIL coalition, according to military sources.

Radars on the border detected ISIL terrorists militants in the Kaferve and Kalbayn regions of northern Syria as they were preparing for a rocket attack targeting the country’s southeast. Turkish artillery units shelled ISIL targets across the border while the U.S.-led coalition warplanes conducted two separate airstrikes targeting the region.

According to initial examinations, seven ISIL terrorists militants were killed along with their weapon systems ready for attack. A hardened defense site belonging to the jihadist group was also destroyed.

Since mid-January, ISIL militants have been targeting Turkish towns and cities on the Syrian border, especially Kilis, with indiscriminate rocket fire. Since then ISIL’s rocket attacks have claimed the lives of 21 people in Kilis, including eight Syrians. Recently, five people were injured on May 27 when ISIL militants conducted a rocket attack targeting Kilis, 20 days after the last such attack by the jihadist group targeting the province.

Kazakh police kill 4 criminals, detain 7 in anti-terrorist raid in Aktobe
Following the attacks on arms shops and a military unit in the Kazakh northern city of Aktobe the police killed four criminals and detained seven others during an anti-terrorist operation, the spokesman for Kazakh Interior Ministry Almas Sadubayev said Sunday.

Sadubayev said that law enforcement services are currently working on tracking and detaining the rest of the attackers, Sputnik reported.

"During the anti-terrorist operation in Aktobe four criminals were killed and seven others were detained, including two injured. A set of operational and investigative measures to detain the rest of criminals is underway," Sadubayev told RIA Novosti.

Earlier in the day, a group of criminals attacked Pallada arms shop in Aktobe and killed a salesman and a security guard and injured three police officers. During the attack on Panther arms shop the criminals killed one customer and injured another one. The policemen, who arrived at the scene of events, killed three criminals and detained one.

According to Sadubayev, during the attack on the military unit, the criminals killed three servicemen and injured six others. The criminals used a captured shuttle bus to enter the unit.

"The guard on duty used the weapon and foiled the criminals' attempt to further penetrate into the unit's territory. With the help of the police one criminal was killed and another one was wounded and detained," Sadubayev said.

Earlier in the day, Sadubayev said that the attackers allegedly were radical followers of non-conventional religious movements.

dozens at small rallies held across the ex-Soviet country on May 21 to protest controversial changes to land ownership laws proposed by the government.

"We have obtained evidence that the so-called land reform protests... were inspired and financed by (Tokhtar) Tuleshov back in December 2015," said National Security Committee (KNB) front man Ruslan Karasev.

He added that several of the businessman's allies in government had also been arrested.

The oligarch is already being held by authorities after he was arrested in an operation in January this year, reportedly on drugs and organized crime allegations.

He previously headed the Kazakh office of a Russian think-tank, the Center for the Analysis of Terrorist Threats (CATT) as well leading Shymkent Beer, one of Kazakhstan's largest breweries.

Tuleshov has in the past acted as an advisor to the Russian parliament and worked to strengthen ties between the two countries.

Kazakhstan remains one of Russia's closest allies although relations soured in the aftermath of Russia's annexation of Crimea and its continued support for separatists in eastern Ukraine.

UN warns Manbij battle could uproot more than 200,000 Syrians
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A US-backed offensive to retake ISIS-held northern Syrian city of Manbij has displaced some 20,000 civilians and could uproot about 216,000 more if it continues, a UN humanitarian agency said on Monday.

Syrian fighters have surrounded Manbij from three sides as they press the onslaught against the Lions of Islam near the Turkish border, a front man for the fighters said on Monday.

The report by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said it was possible people would "face impediments" to moving out of ISIS-controlled areas and they had a critical need for shelter, drinking water, food and health care.

or west towards areas held by other rebel groups, while lesser numbers had gone south to villages along the Euphrates River.

OCHA said newly uprooted people might try to head towards Al-Bab or Azaz, two towns west of Manbij, or south to the Maskanah plain close to Lake Assad.

Offensives aimed at rolling back ISIS gunnies around Tabqa could also trigger displacement, OCHA said. Tabqa, close to the Euphrates Dam at the other end of Lake Assad from Manbij, is the apparent target of a Russian-backed offensive by Syrian pro-government forces.

ABQ witches protest 'witch hunt'; Police union sues for deficient planning
A coalition of groups involved in last month’s anti-Donald Trump protest said Monday that the actions of a few people -- those who threw rocks or punches -- shouldn’t discredit the peaceful message of the rest of the crowd.
Ah, the "mostly peaceful" protest rally argument...
"Most of us went home and we sobbed," Samia Assed, a protester who said she tried to keep the peace that night. "We sobbed at what we saw -- the pain in the community, the outrage in the community, the way the narrative was changed."
And that they had to pack their hands in ice for the rest of the evening...
Protesters had gathered, she and others said, to denounce Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric toward immigrants colonists and others. In rallies, Trump repeatedly vows to build a wall between Mexico and the United States, and more recently, he said a Latino judge shouldn’t hear a case involving one of his companies because he is "we believe, Mexican."

Javier Benavidez of the SouthWest Organizing Project, which sent volunteer peacekeepers to the event, added Monday that it was wrong for community leaders to engage in a "witch hunt" in the days after the protest.

Mayor Richard Berry and business leaders announced last week that they had raised at least $20,000 in reward money for tips leading to the arrest of people who threw rocks, flaming projectiles and other debris at coppers or engaged in other violence.

Police have placed in durance vile
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
a handful of people since then -- two adults and a 14-year-old boy who turned himself.

Gilbert Montaño, the mayor’s chief of staff, said authorities aren’t going after peaceful protesters, only those who engaged in violence.
It's called, "rule of law", as opposed to the progressive "rule of the jungle"...

#1  Couldn't fit 2 links in post, here is the 2nd one:
The Albuquerque Police Officers' Association – the union that represents the city's rank-and-file officers – filed a complaint against the city and police department Monday alleging the department failed to protect its own officers during rioting violent protests that took place following Donald Trump's rally in Albuquerque.
The complaint says because of this alleged lack of planning and failure to equip all officers with riot gear, several officers were unnecessarily injured.
At least six officers were injured during the violence that followed the rally – most of which was caused by rocks thrown by the rioters.
Many of the officers on the "front line" against the protesters were equipped with riot gear, but on several occasions, officers only in street uniforms were tasked with helping push back the rioters as they threw rocks at police on 3rd Street.
New Mexico State Police chief Pete Kassetas tells KOB his repeated offers to provide tactical units and extra traffic enforcement officers the night of the rally were declined by APD.
Kassetas said he put dozens of officers in the field anyway -- a decision that likely helped APD immensely.

but you (along with DoJ) have no problem broadbrushing all cops as Gestapo for the actions of a few, don't you.

Chicago, San Jose, ABQ, there's a pattern there. Your whole act was about confrontation and you play victim. Take it elsewhere sunshine.

Libya’s rival central banks team up for national recovery
[Libya Herald] The governors of Libya’s rival Central Banks agreed last night to work together as a team to design a "unity plan" for the whole economy.

Boss of the Beida-based CBL Ali Hebri and Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
CBL’s Saddek Elkaber met in Tunis along with unnamed members of the House of Representatives’ Finance Committee. A source close to the encounter told this newspaper said the participants described it as a CBL board meeting.

Both governors confirmed that their banks would accept all imported currency for either side. It has been reported elsewhere that LD 50 million of the new "Russian" Libyan dinars is being sent immediately from Beida to Tripoli.

Frustrated crowds gathered outside banks in the capital today seeking to withdraw cash on the eve of Ramadan. It would appear that last Tuesday’s arrival of LD 112.5 million of bank notes, printed in the UK by De La Rue for the Tripoli CBL, has not had a sufficient impact on the cash shortage.

Last night in Tunis, both CBLs also agreed not to attack each other in the media. They said that they were working together as of their meeting.

It is unclear if Hebri’s initiative along with members of the HoR’s finance committee was endorsed by the parliament in Tobruk and backed by the government of prime minister Abdullah Thinni. There has been no reaction yet to the news from the Tunis meeting.

Elkaber was sacked by the HoR in September 2014 after he refused to go to Tobruk to speak to the parliament. He replaced on a temporary basis by Hebri who was then his deputy.

After initially agreeing to step down while his sacking was reviewed, Elkaber decided that his ouster was unconstitutional and that he should serve out his five-year term of office which ends next year.

As the internationally-recognised parliament, the HoR felt that it had the power to fire Elkaber. However since all the main offices and officials were in Tripoli and the Benghazi branch of the CBL was shot to pieces in the early stages of last year’s Operation Dignity, the Tripoli CBL remained the de facto central bank. Hebri’s CBL in overcrowded Beida has never had access to the majority of the bank’s levers.

Kazakhstan Manhunt after 'Terror' Shootings Kill Six
[An Nahar] Police in Kazakhstan were hunting for up to seven gunnies on Monday after a series of "terror" attacks that killed six people, the interior ministry said.

"We acknowledge this is an act of terror," said interior minister Kalmukhanbet Kasymov.

"We have moved to guard all (strategic) sites," he said Monday.

The bloodshed, which happened on Sunday, saw gunnies hijack a bus as part of attacks on two weapons stores and a military base in the western city of Aktobe.

The violence, which killed three civilians and three soldiers, sparked a massive police manhunt.

Eleven gunnies were killed by government forces in total with the interior ministry saying they were believed to be "religious radicals".

It was unable to confirm reports of a fresh Monday shootout just outside the city.

Kazakhstan's parliamentary speaker also on Monday classified the attacks that began on the eve of the holy month of Ramadan as "acts of terror".

Russian President Vladimir Putin
...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
's front man Dmitry Peskov said Russia was confident Kazakh security services are "effectively controlling" the situation in the country.

Currently the Kazakh government has given no details about which group may have been involved in the attacks.

Gun shops were shuttered in key cities across Kazakhstan Monday, local media reported, although the ministry said the situation in Aktobe was stable.

Despite increased security on the streets, public transport was operating as normal.

Iraq
Iraqi forces find mass grave near Fallujah
[DAWN] Iraqi forces discovered a mass grave on Sunday after retaking an area from the hard boy Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group near Fallujah,
... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids...
where the bandidos gunnies are using thousands of civilians as human shields.

Growing numbers of families reaching camps south of Fallujah told horrific accounts of how IS shot at them as they fled, but there was still no escape for the tens of thousands believed trapped in the city centre.

In Saqlawiya, northwest of Fallujah, Iraqi forces found a burial site thought to contain the bodies of around 400 people, most of them soldiers executed by IS in 2014 and 2015.

"The security forces of the federal police, the army and the Hashed al-Shaabi found a mass grave in the Shuhada neighbourhood during a mine clearing operation," a police colonel said.

He said most of the victims, whose remains were being transferred for identification, appeared to have been shot in the head.

"The mass grave also includes civilians executed by ISIS (IS) on various charges such as spying or breaking the organization's rules," said Rajeh Barakat, a member of the provincial council of Anbar, where Fallujah is located.

Iraqi forces launched a vast operation on May 22-23 to retake Fallujah, which lies only 50 kilometres west of Baghdad and is one of the hard boys' most emblematic bastions.

The first phase of the operation was aimed at sealing the siege on the city by cutting the hard boy group's supply lines in outlying areas, including in Saqlawiya.
The Times of Israel has more anecdotes, including this:
Islamic State fighters are once again reported to be fleeing an area under siege -- by dressing up as women.

The semi-official Iranian Fars News Agency said on Monday that Iraqi security forces had jugged
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
"a large number" of IS fighters as they hid among civilian refugees fleeing from Fallujah,
... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids...
an Islamic State bastion now being contested by Iraqi troops.
There is a video of a pretty one at the Israel Times link. Enjoy!
Reports about Islamic State Death Eaters dressing up as women to flee danger have surfaced repeatedly over recent weeks.

One man said residents saw IS members shaving their beards Sunday for the first time, as they have done in the past to try to mingle with fleeing civilians when they are about to lose a town to the Iraqi forces.

Fighting between LNA and Derna mujahideen does not stop
[Libya Herald] Five soldiers from the Libyan National Army (LNA) have been killed in fighting east of Derna over the past two days between the LNA and mujahideen forces belonging to the Derna Revolutionaries Shoura Council (DRSC), according to the LNA front man Ahmed Mismari. However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
fighting ‐ at Al-Dahr Al-Ahmar, west of Derna on the road to Ain Mara ‐ stopped today for "strategic reasons," he added, claiming that the LNA had taken ground from what he described as "Al-Qaeda" forces.

The fighting had included air strikes by LNA jet fighters and helicopters, he said.

The LNA regularly describes the DRSC as Al-Qaeda.

A separate LNA source , however, said that seven of its soldiers had died in the past three days, another ten had been injured and one was missing in the fighting.

For its part, the DRSC counter-claimed, saying that on Saturday it had repulsed an LNA attack at Al-Dahr Al-Ahmar and managed to seize ammunition and vehicles. Today it claimed that last night, LNA aircraft bombed the Wadi Al-Naqa district some ten kilkomtres west of the cenre of Derna but caused no casualties.

Despite the festivities between the LNA and the DRSC, members of the Thinni government, which supports the former, have been in the town carrying out official duties without any apparent problems.

Yesterday, Thinni’s interior minister, Mohammed Fakhri, opened the Derna new offices of the security directorate. According to the Libyan news agency LANA based in Beida, the ceremony was attended by local police, army officers and members of the local council as well as by a number of members of the House of Representatives and local tribal elders.

Sunday also saw a visit by the head of the examinations board in the Thinni government’s education ministry. He inspected school buildings to see damage resulting from fighting in the town and met with local education officials to discuss the restoration of normal schooling.

LANA reported that the local officials accepted the legitimacy of the Thinni government.

Bangladesh
Home boss claims Mossad behind recent killing spate
[Dhaka Tribune] State Minister of Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday suggested an Israeli link to the recent killings spate of secular bloggers and minorities.

While talking to the BBC, the minister highlighted a recent meeting between a BNP politician and a self-proclaimed Israeli politician as his sole evidence of an ongoing cross-border plotting, terming the rendezvous an "international conspiracy" against Bangladesh.

Israel dismissed the suggestion.

Kamal’s comments came a day after the wife of a police brass hat was rubbed out in broad daylight in Chittagong. Another Christian small trader was hacked to death by unknown assailants in NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and organization....
re.

"Bangladesh has become the target of an international conspiracy. And a foreign intelligence agency has joined the conspiracy," Kamal said while talking to the BBC.

When Kamal was to elaborate, he said: "You must have noticed that an Israeli intelligence agent had a meeting with a politician, it does not need to be verified further, all Bangladeshi know about it."

BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury was recently jugged
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
and charged with sedition after he was pictured meeting Israeli government adviser Mendi Safadi in India. Aslam said he was in India on a business trip and has denied meeting any Israeli intelligence agent.

Israeli Foreign Ministry Spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon told the BBC the suggestion of Israeli involvement was "utter drivel."
That was the most diplomatic response that professional diplomatic spokesman could come up with. Back in the office oxygen had to be sent for, they were laughing so hard.
Bangladesh has no diplomatic relations with Israel and supports the Palestanians.

More than 40 people have been killed since January last year in the wave of attacks on those seen by murderous Moslems as offensive to Islam.

The government insists that Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
or al-Qaeda do not have a presence in Bangladesh and has tended to blame the opposition and local bad boy groups.

Critics have accused the government of failing to properly address the violence in Bangladesh.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Veteran Hizbullah Commander Killed in Aleppo Province
[An Nahar] Veteran Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
military commander Al-Sayyed Khalil Ali al-Sayyed Hassan has been killed in festivities in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo, media reports said on Monday.

The pro-Hizbullah South Leb news portal confirmed the reports, describing al-Sayyed Hassan as a "martyr leader" who hailed from the southern town of Aitaroun.

He was killed "performing his sacred jihadi duty in the confrontation against the mercenaries of blasphemy and Wahhabism," the website added, saying he will be laid to rest in his hometown on Tuesday afternoon.

Media reports said the slain commander belonged to Hizbullah's first generation of operatives.

"He had been a field commander in Aleppo since Hizbullah began its participation in the battles in Aleppo's countryside, where he shuttled among several fronts," the reports said.

"Al-Sayyed Khalil took part in landmark Hizbullah operations against the Israeli occupation of south Leb," the reports added.

Since Hizbullah joined Syria's conflict in 2012 to support Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Oppressor of the Syrians and the Lebs...
's regime, it has lost several prominent members in combat. More than 1,000 of its foot soldiers have been killed in the Syria war, which began in 2011, compared to the 1,276 fighters killed during its 18-year guerrilla war with Israeli forces that occupied southern Leb until 2000.

Last month, Hizbullah said its top military commander Mustafa Badreddine was killed by artillery shelling carried out by "takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who most be killed...
groups" near the Syrian capital Damascus.

Ali Fayyad, better known as Abu Alaa Bosna, who led some of Hizbullah's military operations in Leb, Syria, Iraq and Bosnia was killed in February during battles with the Islamic State

group near the town of Khanaser in Aleppo.

And Hassan Hussein al-Haj, a top Hizbullah commander, was killed in October while fighting al-Qaeda-linked fighters in the northwestern province of Idlib. A week later, his replacement, Mahdi Hassan Obeid, was killed during fighting in the same province.

Another senior military officer, Fawzi Ayoub, a dual Lebanese-Canadian citizen who was wanted by the FBI on charges of trying to use a forged U.S. passport to enter Israel, was killed in May in Aleppo, reportedly in an ambush by Western-backed rebels.

Clinton's Lead Over Trump Narrows; Libertarian Gary Johnson Gets 11%
[IBD] Hillary Clinton’s lead over Donald Trump narrowed slightly in the latest IBD/TIPP Poll, which finds her ahead of Trump by 45% to 40%. Last month, Clinton was head ahead 47% to 40%.

But the poll finds widespread dissatisfaction with the two presumptive nominees. In fact, little-known Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson gets a surprisingly large 11% of the vote when he’s included in the mix. The former New Mexico governor draws almost equally from Hillary and Trump -- who get 39% and 35%, respectively, in a three-way race.

What’s more, the IBD/TIPP Poll finds that both Clinton and Trump get extremely low ratings on favorability and trustworthiness, and few say they strongly support their party’s nominee.

Clinton’s favorability took a hit this month. Just 39% say they have a favorable view of her, down from 43% last month. In fact, at 61%, her unfavorable score is now virtually tied with Trump, who gets a 63% unfavorable rating.

The public also views both Clinton and Trump as untrustworthy, although Trump does slightly better. The poll finds that 63% say Clinton is "not honest and trustworthy," compared with 58% who view Trump that way.

White House preparing for Obama’s endorsement of Clinton: US media
[Iran Press TV] US President Barack Obama
They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them...
is set to endorse Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as The Heroine of Tuzla and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another John Jay ...
for the 2016 election.

Various US media outlets made the announcement Tuesday, citing American officials and other sources.

White House officials were determining about when and how Obama, along with Vice President Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden
The former Senator-for-Life from Delaware, an example of the kind of top-notch Washington intellect to be found in the World's Greatest Deliberative Body...
should announce their formal endorsement.

The signal from the White House came on a day that Obama’s former secretary of state was close to securing enough delegates to become the presumptive Democratic nominee.

"He has indicated he wants to spend a lot of time on the campaign trail, so when it’s time to do that, we’ll go out guns ablazing," White House Communications Director Jennifer Psaki told the New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
in an interview. "We are actively thinking through how to use the president on the campaign trail -- what works for the nominee, what works for him, and how to utilize his strengths and his appeal."
Does anyone think the Attorney General is going to levy charges against someone endorsed by the Champ to become the next President of the United States? No, me neither.

Desalination Breakthrough: Saving the Sea from Salt
[ScientificAmerican] Chemist finds way to cut supersalty discharge and CO2 as the Middle East relies ever more on seawater desalination
Wow! Seems like a chemist trained at Qatar University may have figured out something hyuuge! And, against Obozo's unparalleled common sense, NASA had nothing to do with it . . . .
Farid Benyahia wants to solve two environmental problems at once: excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and excess salt in the Persian Gulf (aka the Arabian Gulf). Oil and natural gas drive the region's booming economies--hence the excess CO2--and desalination supplies the vast majority of drinking water, a process that creates concentrated brine waste that is usually dumped back into the gulf.

Benyahia, a chemical engineer at Qatar University, thinks he may have hit on a neatly efficient way to address the problem. "The goal is to solve two nasty environmental problems with one smart solution and generate useful, marketable products to offset partially the cost of storing CO2," he says.

The secret is a variant of the Solvay process, a 150-year-old, seven-step chemical conversion method that is widely used to produce sodium carbonate for industrial applications, and that many chemists are working to refine. Benyahia has simplified the process in part by aiming for sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) rather than sodium carbonate, thus reducing the needed chemical conversion steps to just two. In the presence of ammonia he reacts pure carbon dioxide with the waste brine from desalination, creating solid baking soda and ammonium chloride solution. In a second step he reacts the ammonium chloride solution with calcium oxide to produce calcium chloride solution and ammonia gas. Recovering the ammonia allows him to reuse it in the first step, reducing the cost of the process.

Benyahia's process is unusual in that it reduces the need for brine disposal by nearly 100 percent, ending up with sodium bicarbonate, calcium chloride and ammonia for reuse in the first step. It also uses pure CO2, whereas other similar processes use flue gas from power plants--which is about 10 percent CO2 and contains other gases. Using flue gas adds a step of separating out the pure CO2, making the process more expensive. Qatar already has natural gas processing plants venting pure CO2 close to brine disposal stations, making Benyahia's solution potentially cost-effective, at least in places with similar infrastructure.

Brine disposal is a big problem in much of the Middle East. The gulf, along with the Red and Mediterranean seas, are turning saltier because of desalination by-products--and the region is the epicenter of desalination worldwide, with the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman making up 45 percent of global desalination capacity. This brine is typically twice as salty as seawater, and advanced desalination plants still produce approximately two cubic meters of waste brine for every one cubic meter of clean water.

Also contributing to the increased salinity is the geography--these seas are largely enclosed, with low levels of water circulation--as well as decreased freshwater input from rivers including the Euphrates due to large-scale dams and diversions upstream. In some spots in the gulf salinity doubled between 1996 and 2008 and is expected to more than double again by 2050. "I believe that the estimated numbers of salt concentration at year 2050 will be even larger if the desalination projects continue at the same increment level today," says Raed Bashitialshaaer, a water resources engineer at Lund University in Sweden who specializes in desalination. Desalination capacity in the gulf region is projected to nearly double between 2012 and 2030.

The gulf shoreline is increasingly industrialized, with oil and gas production complexes, power plants and wastewater treatment facilities. These heat the water and pollute it with oil, chemicals, nutrients and salt. Dredging for real estate developments such as the Palm and the World off the coast of Dubai is another stressor. Combined, these impacts are taking a toll. A harmful algae bloom in 2008‐09 caused a massive fish kill and damaged hard corals. Studies elsewhere have shown that brine discharge harms marine life, but little research on this has been done in the gulf.

Brine dumping also threatens future drinking water supplies. "It's harder to clean the water if it's saltier," Bashitialshaaer says, adding that the larger amount of energy required to do so and the need to change the membranes in reverse-osmosis plants more frequently increases the expense. The gulf is already seeing lower yields of clean water produced from a specific amount of seawater--and higher costs. "I have studied up to 2050, including all planned plants for right now," Bashitialshaaer says. "If they continue like this in Arabian Gulf, it will be very difficult to continue."

Bashitialshaaer recommends dilution as a way to address the pollution problem. This could be accomplished by discharging brine farther offshore or by mixing it with treated wastewater or power plant cooling water to reduce the salinity prior to discharge. He also recommends that Saudi Arabia build new plants on its Red Sea coast, which is not yet as severely affected as the gulf. He said he is not familiar with Benyahia's work but is skeptical of Solvay-type processes ever becoming economically viable.

Benyahia disputes that assessment, however, citing economic benefits such as easy access to pure CO2 as well as sales of the products of his process: baking soda and calcium chloride. In addition to baking soda's many well-known household applications, it is used to regulate pH in wastewater treatment and remove paint, as well as in the oil and gas industry, says James Keating, who is marketing the technology for the nonprofit Qatar Foundation's Office of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer. Calcium chloride, recovered as a liquid, can be used as a preservative for canned vegetables and in the leather tanning industry. The process aims to produce these two products more cheaply than current suppliers and thus find use in these large industrial markets, Keating says.

"With this process we don't need a carbon tax to make this economically viable," Keating says. He is marketing the technology internationally but says, "It's most applicable where a lot of desalination is happening, especially here in the GCC [Gulf Cooperation Council] and in areas where desalination is prevalent with very fragile marine ecosystems."

Rentseekers and vampire squids unite against Brexit
[IBTimes] As the EU referendum looms, a great counsel of war is gathering. Henri de Castries, the Chairman of the influential Bilderberg Group, has made his way to the highest hill above Dresden, placed a mighty conch shell to his aristocratic French lips and blown.

The annual three-day Bilderberg conference kicks off on Thursday, and you can be sure the mood in Dresden will be a grim one. The heads of Google, Shell, BP and Deutsche Bank will be there, and Brexit will be top of the agenda. The Bilderberg Group has been nurturing the EU to life since the 1950s, and now they see their creation under dire threat.

For Bilderberg, as for Goldman Sachs, the idea that there might be any kind of push-back against globalisation is a horrific one.

The prospect of Brexit "frightens me", admit Ken Jacobs, the head of Lazard, and another member of Bilderberg's inner circle. Not much frightens these people. Only two things: sunlight and Brexit.

Death penalty sought for 24 Hindu convicts over Gujarat riots massacre
[DAWN] Indian prosecutors sought the death penalty on Monday for 24 Hindus convicted over a massacre in Gujarat
...where rioting seems to be a traditional passtime...
during religious riots in 2002, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was chief minister of the state.

Judge P.B Desai heard submissions from the prosecution as well as lawyers representing the 24 convicted over the killings, before adjourning final sentencing until Thursday.

The 24 were found guilty last week of playing a role in the massacre of 69 Moslems who were hacked and burnt to death as they sheltered at a residential complex in the city of Ahmedabad, in Gujarat state.

Celebrations had erupted in the court room in Ahmedabad after the verdicts were read out, with victims and their families clapping and thanking the judge.

"I am happy 24 accused were convicted but sad that 36 others have been acquitted. This is incomplete justice and I will fight till the end," Zakia Jafri, whose husband was killed in the massacre, had said.

It was one of the single worst massacres of the week-long violence that left more than 1,000 people dead in total.

Public prosecutor R.C Kodekar told the court on Monday some of the victims were women and kiddies. "The crime is rarest of the rare as the victims were hacked to death and then burnt by the accused," Kodekar told the court.

"The victims were killed only because they belonged to the minority community.

"The accused had targeted innocent people, so they must get the maximum punishment prescribed in law," Kodekar said.

Militant challenge
[DAWN] THE end of Operation Zarb-e-Azb
..the Pak offensive against Qaeda in Pakistain and the Pak Taliban in North Wazoo. The name refers to the sword of the Prophet (PTUI!)...
has been speculated about for a while. On occasion, the military has suggested that it will be an open-ended operation, with counter-insurgency in North Wazoo morphing into counterterrorism operations in the cities. However,
denial ain't just a river in Egypt...
Gen Raheel Sharif
..Pak chief of army staff, meaning he pulls the strings on the Nawaz Sharif puppet to make it dance and sing and not do much at all....
’s comments to the Formation Commanders’ Conference on Thursday would appear to suggest that the military has a definite timeline in mind when it comes to the conclusion of Zarb-e-Azb -- and that the end of the operation may only be months away. If the operation does come to a close soon, it would be a milestone in Pakistain’s fight against militancy. While other major operations have been fought in the past -- in Swat
...a valley and an administrative district in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistain, located 99 mi from Islamabad. It is inhabited mostly by Pashto speakers. The place has gone steadily downhill since the days when Babe Ruth was the Sultan of Swat...
and South Waziristan in particular -- North Waziristan, both for operational reasons and for those of perception, had come to be regarded as a kind of final frontier: wresting North Waziristan away from hard boyz and re-establishing the state’s writ in the agency would signal a return to a more internally secure Pakistain. The bravery and sacrifices of the soldiers who have fought in Zarb-e-Azb deserve the highest praise.

Yet, great challenges remain in the fight against militancy. While the banned TTP and affiliated groups may be decimated, the full spectrum of militancy continues to pose significant threats. There is also, beyond military operations and counterterrorism actions, the more complicated tasks of counter-extremism and de-radicalisation. Therefore, the end of Zarb-e-Azb, necessary as it may be, should bring with it some clarity and direction in the next phase of the long war. The National Action Plan may have a great deal of merit but it appears to have been virtually abandoned by both the political and military leaderships. In any case, NAP does not provide a phased approach, one that creates a road map in the post-Zarb-e-Azb security situation. Unhappily, if the absence of a declared road map is worrying enough, the means to create one is even more in doubt at the moment. From Zarb-e-Azb, the next logical step was to tackle the bully boy infrastructure in Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

-- and the infrastructure of all bully boys, not just those who have taken up arms against Pakistain. But the government does not appear to regard militancy in Punjab as a serious matter, while the security establishment seems uninterested in shutting down anti-India bully boy groups that are based in the province but that have spread their networks across the country. Surely, the nation’s security demands a less myopic approach.

During his nearly eight years in office, Obama has at times had difficult relationships with America's oldest allies.

For most of his first term, Europe was frustratingly slow to contain sovereign debt crises that were fed by and prolonged the Great Recession.

Relations with Europe were further tested by Obama's "pivot to Asia" -- which was widely perceived as capping a decades-long strategic shift from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

Obama has publicly said that it was a mistake to depend on European allies to manage Libya's emergence from decades of Muammar Qadaffy

Europe
Ukraine arrests Frenchman for plotting attacks on Euro 2016
[Iran Press TV] Ukraine's intelligence agency has tossed in the slammer
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
a heavily-armed Frenchie allegedly accused of planning a string of terror attacks before and during the Euro 2016 football championship in La Belle France.

The Ukrainian state security service (SBU) made the announcement on Monday without identifying the name of the French man, saying he were tossed into the calaboose in late May on the border with Poland while carrying a huge arsenal of weapons for allegedly planning to perpetrate acts of terror in La Belle France.

Vasyl Grytsak, the SBU chief, said the 25-year-old man had made contact with gangs in Ukraine with the aim of buying weapons and explosives.

"He obtained five Kalashnikov rifles, more than 5,000 bullets, two anti-tank grenade launchers, 125 kilograms (275 pounds) of TNT, 100 detonators, 20 balaclavas and other things," he said.

Grytsak said the man had planned to conduct "15 terrorist strikes" on the eve and during the Euro soccer championship. The terrorist attacks included blowing up "a Moslem mosque, a Jewish synagogue, tax collection organizations, police patrol units and numerous other locations."
The Times of Israel adds:
The SBU said in a statement it had followed the man since December and allowed him to purchase the weapons before he was tossed in the clink
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
on the border between Ukraine and Poland last month.

Gregoire Moutaux was driven by ultra-nationalist views, and was was a confirmed Islamophobe and anti-Semite.
The man, later named as Gregoire Moutaux, was driven by ultra-nationalist views and planned 15 attacks on bridges, railways and other pieces of infrastructure for Euro 2016 that is to be held in La Belle France, the SBU said.

Moutaux was a confirmed Islamophobe and anti-Semite, and specifically wanted to targets mosques, synagogues, and "large crowds building up around Euro 2016," said the SBU.
And from Ynet:
"The Frenchie spoke negatively about his government's actions, mass immigration, the spread of Islam and globalisation, and also talked about plans to carry out several terrorist attacks," Gritsak said at a briefing.
More from Al Ahram:
The man has not been formally identified by French authorities, but he is believed to work for an agricultural cooperative inseminating cows in eastern La Belle France.

The employer of a man named in some media as the suspect told AFP he was an "exemplary employee".

A farmer who knows the man, but asked not to be named, said he regularly visited Ukraine.

"He told us he had a girlfriend in Ukraine and that he went to her place from time to time," the farmer said.

Grytsak said Ukrainian authorities suspected the French national was trying to obtain arms from unidentified groups in war-scarred eastern Ukraine.

"The Frenchie offered people with whom he was in contact (in the east) several thousand euros in order to have a Ukrainian citizen help him carry the load into Europe," he said. "We therefore believe that the Russian security services may have set him up."

Ukraine's eastern war zone has been awash with arms since an insurgency against the pro-Western government in Kiev erupted in April 2014.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
US-backed Syria force closes in on Manbij
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] US-backed Syrian fighters have surrounded the ISIS-held city of Manbij from three sides as they press a major new offensive against the forces of Evil near the Turkish border, a front man for the fighters said on Monday.

But in a sign of the difficulty world powers have faced in building a coalition to take on the self-declared caliphate, the slow pace of a separate assault by the Iraqi army on a bully boy bastion near Baghdad caused a rift between the Shi’ite-led government and powerful Iranian-backed Shi’ite militia.

The simultaneous assaults on Manbij in Syria and Falluja in Iraq, at opposite ends of ISIS territory, are two of the biggest operations yet against ISIS in what Washington says is the year it hopes to roll back the caliphate.

The Syria Democratic Forces (SDF), including a Kurdish militia and Arab allies that joined it last year, launched the Manbij attack last week to drive ISIS from its last stretch of the Syrian-Turkish frontier. If successful it could cut the bully boys’ main access route to the outside world, paving the way for an assault on their Syrian capital Raqqa.

Last week Iraqi forces also rolled into the southern outskirts of Fallujah,
... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids...
an holy warrior stronghold 750 km down the Euphrates River from Manbij just an hour’s drive from Baghdad.

The SDF in Syria are backed by US air strikes and a small contingent of American special forces. The Iraqi army is also backed by US air power, as well as by powerful Iran-backed Shi’ite militia led by politicians who have emerged as rivals of Prime Minister Haider Abadi.

In Syria, the government of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Oppressor of the Syrians and the Lebs...
also launched a separate offensive last week against ISIS, with Russian air support.

The assaults by ISIS’ disparate enemies on a variety of fronts have put unprecedented pressure on the group, although its fighters have put up strong resistance so far.

The offensives have also put large numbers of civilians in fresh peril. The United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
estimates 50,000 civilians are trapped in Iraq’s besieged Fallujah, and more than 200,000 are at risk of being displaced by fighting around Syria’s Manbij.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a British-based group that reports on the war, said the US-backed forces in northern Syria had cut the road north from Manbij to ISIS-held Jarabulus at the Turkish border.

Sharfan Darwish, front man for the SDF-allied Manbij Military Council, said the US-backed alliance had advanced to within 6 km (4 miles) of Manbij, and the attack was going to plan. More than 150 forces of Evil had been killed, with 50 of the bodies in SDF hands, he said.

Homes being used by ISIS members were now empty as they had left with their families, he said: "They took everything they could and left the city."

Rooters was unable to verify the account, and ISIS fighters could not be reached.

The SDF included the commander of one of the groups, Faysal Abu Layla of the Sun of the North Battalions, who died of wounds caused by a mortar bomb, Darwish said.

The Observatory said said 56 ISIS members and 19 SDF fighters had been killed so far. It also said ISIS fighters had sent their families out of Manbij, but did not confirm Darwish’s account that fighters themselves had left.

#2  Looks like the anti-ISIS factions are finally getting it together. A three front series of assaults - one on Falluja by the Iraqis, one on Manbij by Kurds and one by US backed Syrians and on push toward the south of Raqqa by the Syrian Army is keeping the ISIS folks pinned and preventing them from reinforcing across the line.

SDF and Syrian gov't forces continue pincer movement toward Manbij
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The SDF are now advancing on Manbij, 155 kilometers (72 miles) to the northwest of Raqqa, as Syrian government forces backed by Iranian, Lebanese and Russian firepower, advance on the IS capital from the south. It is unclear whether the twin offensives were coordinated.

Pro-government forces reached within 40 kilometers (25 miles) of the Tabqa Air Base, to the west of Raqqa, according to the Observatory. ISIS Lions of Islam captured the base from the government in 2014, killing scores of captured soldiers. The media arm of Leb’s Hezbollah group, which is fighting alongside government forces, said the Syrian army took a small village 50 kilometers (31 miles) to the southwest of Tabqa air base.

The twin offensive on ISIS-strongholds in Syria coincides with a military operation in neighboring Iraq on Fallujah,
... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids...
one of the most important cities still held by the holy warrior group.

Government and Russian Arclight airstrikes meanwhile killed at least 23 people in opposition-held parts of Aleppo, once Syria’s largest city and former commercial capital, activists said, and killed or maimed dozens more in Idlib, a rebel-held city in the country’s northwest.

The Civil Defense, a first responder group that operates in rebel-held areas, reported 50 Arclight airstrikes in Aleppo on Sunday. The Local Coordination Committees, an activist network, said the strikes killed at least 30 people. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights put the toll at 23.

Activists reported that a war plane crashed south of Aleppo. It was not immediately clear whether the plane had malfunctioned or had been shot down, according to the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group.

The activist Local Coordination Committees network said rebels shot the plane down near Khalasa, where a coalition of opposition fighters and al-Qaeda linked turbans have eroded government control over the past two months.

Arabia
Arab coalition removed from UN blacklist
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
on Monday said it would remove the Saudi-led Arab coalition from a blacklist over the deaths of hundreds of children in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
pending a review of the facts.

Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
had reacted angrily to a UN decision to add the coalition to a list of children's rights violators after determining that it was responsible for 60 percent of the 785 children killed in Yemen last year.

UN Secretary-General the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon agreed to a Saudi proposal to review the facts and cases cited in the report jointly with the coalition, his front man Stephan Dujarric said.

"Pending the conclusions of the joint review, the secretary-general removes the listing of the coalition in the report's annex," he added.

Saudi’s UN envoy Abdullah al-Mualami told news hounds that the coalition felt "vindicated" and declared that the change to the list was "final and unconditional."

Earlier on Monday Mualami criticized a recent report by the international body on the Yemeni conflict, and claimed that the findings were "misleading" and "incorrect."

Mualami said Saudi Arabia does not accept for the kingdom or any of its Arab coalition allies to be placed on a "bad list."

Mualami’s statement, made during a presser at the UN headquarters, comes after the Saudi-led Arab coalition’s military front man on Sunday dubbed the report as "imbalanced" and not reliant on "credible statistics." The report also gave "misleading" and "incorrect numbers," the military front man added.

The Saudi envoy said that the report contained double standards, citing Israel’s exclusion from a UN list. Last year, the UN released a list of children’s rights violators and did not include Israel, despite an outcry over the death of more than 500 children during the Gazoo war the year before.

He also said the report overlooked Saudi’s role in reinstating "legitimacy" in Yemen.

The report was released on Thursday by the office of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. It slammed both the Arab coalition and militia forces for a "very large number of violations" including "attacks on schools and hospitals."

, was triggered by the group itself, killing 10 murderous Moslems, a Kurdish official has said.

"On Sunday, an ISIS weapons depot named Eastern Sulfur Factory in the town of Gayara was triggered by the group due to technical failures, killing 10 murderous Moslems," said Ismat Rajab, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP) office in Mosul.

Rajab added that "12 others were maimed, and people in nearby areas were poisoned" by the effects of the kaboom and contaminated materials at the depot.

Rudaw cannot confirm what weapons were being manufactured or stored at the Eastern Sulfur Factory. However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
ISIS has used chemical weapons such as mustard gas, which is the common name for sulfur mustard, against forces fighting the group, including the Peshmerga.

Gayara is an ISIS center for manufacturing bombs, and in the past Iraqi forces and warplanes from the US-led coalition have targeted many other weapons depots of the group in the town.

On May 22, Arclight airstrikes carried out by warplanes from the US-led coalition on Gayara killed 15 hard boyz including a big shot.

Further south, Iraqi forces continue advancing into the ISIS held town of Fallujah and the town is expected to be liberated soon, before the long anticipated battle for Mosul kicks off.
