FBI agents found hundreds of classified documents on Paula Broadwell’s home computers
[Charlotte Observer] FBI agents found hundreds of classified documents on Paula Broadwell’s home computers in Charlotte during their investigation into her relationship with then-CIA Director David Petraeus, according to newly unsealed FBI documents obtained by the Observer.

More than 300 of those documents were classified as secret, according to a 2013 FBI affidavit accompanying the agency’s request to search Petraeus’ Arlington, Va., home.

The documents, which were unsealed Tuesday by the U.S. District Court in Eastern Virginia, offer new details of the sweeping federal investigation into the relationship between Broadwell, a Charlotte author, and Petraeus, a highly decorated military commander, the subject of Broadwell’s book as well as her former lover.

The probe uncovered their affair, revealed their mishandling of classified documents and lead to Petraeus’ resignation as head of the CIA. Last year, Petraeus pleaded guilty in Charlotte to a misdemeanor charge of mishandling government documents and was fined $100,000.

Broadwell, the author of Petraeus’ biography, was never charged. Legal experts say her role as a journalist made any prosecution problematic.

My apologies. Please use this link for story if headline link fails.

Total rubbish! She 'was never charged' simply because the spill over would have further sullied the general. Petraeus was one of the key architects of the UBL takedown as well as events in Libya and Benghazi.

It's sun dried and crusted over. Please don't kick it and we can continue to enjoy the pleasant meadow fragrances.

Hildebeest Univ: Bill Clinton Bagged $16.46m from For-Profit College as DoS Funneled $55m Back
[Breitbart] With her campaign sinking in the polls, Hillary Clinton has launched a desperate attack against Trump University to deflect attention away from her deep involvement with a controversial for-profit college that made the Clintons millions, even as the school faced serious legal scrutiny and criminal investigations.

In April 2015, Bill Clinton was forced to abruptly resign from his lucrative perch as honorary chancellor of Laureate Education, a for-profit college company. The reason for Clinton’s immediate departure: Clinton Cash revealed, and Bloomberg confirmed, that Laureate funneled Bill Clinton $16.46 million over five years while Hillary Clinton’s State Dept. pumped at least $55 million to a group run by Laureate’s founder and chairman, Douglas Becker, a man with strong ties to the Clinton Global Initiative. Laureate has donated between $1 million and $5 million (donations are reported in ranges, not exact amounts) to the Clinton Foundation. Progressive billionaire George Soros is also a Laureate financial backer.

As the Washington Post reports, "Laureate has stirred controversy throughout Latin America, where it derives two-thirds of its revenue." During Bill Clinton’s tenure as Laureate’s chancellor, the school spent over $200 million a year on aggressive telemarketing, flashy Internet banner ads, and billboards designed to lure often unprepared students from impoverished countries to enroll in its for-profit classes. The goal: get as many students, regardless of skill level, signed up and paying tuition.

"I meet people all the time who transfer here when they flunk out elsewhere," agronomy student Arturo Bisono, 25, told the Post. "This has become the place you go when no one else will accept you."

Armed robbery at McDonalds thwarted by Groupe d'Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale
[Fox] In a bizarre situation that sounds like something out of a Hollywood action movie, two would-be robbers burst into a McDonald’s and were surprised to find the restaurant full of off-duty special forces soldiers.

According to The Local, 11 off-duty members of the French Armed Forces, Groupe d’Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale (GIGN), were hanging out at a local McDonald’s in the commune of Ecole-Valentin on Sunday, enjoying their burgers when two armed men rushed into the restaurant, fired a warning shot, and robbed the cashier.

The soldiers, who specialize in handling hostage situations for the French military, thought it was safest for the other customers and McDonald’s staff if they waited until the robbers finished their crime and left the restaurant before attempting to intervene.

Once the robbers left, though, they handily captured both of them. One robber, who was carrying around 2,000 euros ($2,270) cash, stumbled as he attempted to flee and was captured, while the other was shot in the abdomen by one of the elite forces member and arrested.

Both robbers were taken to the hospital and are expected to make a full recovery before standing trial. They have since been charged with armed robbery.

Ex-CIA agent loses fight against extradition to Italy
A former CIA agent said Wednesday she will be extradited to Italy to serve a prison sentence for her part in the U.S. extraordinary renditions program after Portugal's Constitutional Court rejected her final appeal.

Sabrina de Sousa told the Associated Press she is waiting to be told when she will be taken to Italy, where she was convicted in absentia and has a four-year sentence to serve.

Since her October arrest in Lisbon on a European arrest warrant, De Sousa has lost her extradition fight at a lower Lisbon court and her appeal of that decision to the Portuguese Supreme Court.

De Sousa was among 26 Americans convicted in the kidnapping of terror suspect Osama Moustafa Hassan Nasr, also known as Abu Omar, from a Milan street on Feb. 17, 2003. She insists that she wasn't involved in the abduction.

The Constitutional Court said in a ruling posted on its website late Tuesday that De Sousa's appeal was rejected.

Under Portuguese legal procedure, the Constitutional Court now sends its decision back to the lower court. That court then informs the police, who set in motion the extradition process in conjunction with Italian authorities.

De Sousa said in an email to the AP that she had "no idea" when she might be sent to Italy.

Her Italian lawyer has previously said he is hopeful of obtaining clemency from Italy's head of state in the case, which has also implicated Italy's secret services and proved embarrassing to successive Italian governments. President Sergio Mattarella has granted clemency to other defendants convicted in the case.

De Sousa said she sent a letter to Pope Francis on Wednesday, through the Vatican's embassy in Lisbon, urging him to speak out against the extraordinary renditions used by the CIA after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The pontiff has already condemned the practice, in a 2014 speech.

De Sousa, who has U.S. and Portuguese citizenship and was working in Italy under diplomatic cover, argues that she was never officially informed of the Italian court conviction and couldn't use confidential U.S. government information to defend herself.

"I was never notified nor was I allowed to defend myself because of secrecy obligations," she wrote in the letter to the pope. "The absence of due process and the imposition of various versions of state secrets are obstacles that prevent the many unanswered questions about the premise and justification for Abu Omar's rendition."

The rendition program, under which terror suspects were kidnapped and transferred to centers where they were interrogated and tortured, was part of the anti-terrorism strategy of the U.S. administration following the attacks. President Obama ended the program years later.

FBI director: Number of IS cases in US has not dropped off
The director of the FBI said Tuesday that the Islamic State group is currently the main threat facing the United States, both in its efforts to recruit fighters to join its members overseas and to have others carry out violence in America.

Director James Comey said the IS group poses a third potential threat: a "terrorist diaspora" that he said will eventually flow out of Syria and Iraq and end up in Western Europe, where members will have easy access to the U.S.
Don't forget option number four, where we pay to fly them in style from Syria directly to our own back yard.
"There's three prongs to this ISIL threat," Comey said. "The recruitment to travel, the recruitment to violence in place, and then what you saw a preview of in Brussels and in Paris -- hardened fighters coming out, looking to kill people."

He said officials are "laser-focused on that."

Comey took questions from reporters Tuesday in the FBI's Minneapolis office as part of a two-day visit to the region that included meetings with community leaders and local law enforcement. Comey responded to questions about the heroin epidemic, shootings involving officers and surveillance issues, but the bulk of his comments were about the Islamic State group.

Last week, three Minnesota men who were accused of plotting to join the IS group were convicted of conspiring to commit murder overseas -- which carries a potential life sentence -- as well as conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization and other charges.

The defendants -- Guled Ali Omar, 21; Abdirahman Yasin Daud, 22; and Mohamed Abdihamid Farah, 22 -- were among a group of friends who prosecutors say recruited and inspired each other to travel to Syria. A total of 10 men were charged in the conspiracy; six pleaded guilty and a seventh is at large, believed to be fighting in Syria.

Comey said the FBI is continuing to focus on the Islamic State group, and there are close to 1,000 open cases nationwide involving people at various stages of recruitment. He said the group's slick videos and propaganda can resonate with people of all ages, but seem to draw in people under 30 who are "unmoored" in some way.

He said he hopes the FBI's work, including the convictions in Minneapolis, will send a message that "there will be severe consequences for people who go down that path."

Comey added that the number of active IS-related cases hasn't decreased, but the number of people seeking to travel to Syria has dropped since the end of last summer -- going from about six to 10 attempted travelers each month to about one or two.

He said he can't pinpoint the reasons for the trend, but it's possible people are traveling to other Islamic State outposts, have been deterred by the outcomes of other criminal cases, or have been stopped by families and community members.

Another -- and more disturbing -- possibility is that some are staying in the U.S. and looking to carry out violence here, Comey said.

"It's good news the traveler numbers have come down," he said. "I don't know exactly what to make of it yet."

Comey was in Williston, North Dakota, on Monday to open a new FBI office that will focus on crime in the Bakken region, which has spiked with the oil boom. The FBI's Minneapolis division covers Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Canada looks to delay tricky F-35 decision by buying Super Hornets
I believe the idea of leapfrogging the F-35 Moneypit Pieceofshit Lightning via a combination of F-22s and upgraded F-18s has been floated here before at the Burg.
Ahem. Cough, cough...
While campaigning for office, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau promised that his government would never buy the controversial, increasingly expensive F-35 Joint Strike Fighter for his country's air force. That declaration came despite the previous administration's commitment to purchase 65 of those planes from Lockheed Martin. Now, however, it appears Trudeau's government has found a way to fulfill his campaign promise and avoid any potential legal headaches that would result from Canada dropping its commitment with Lockheed. Trudeau's solution? Buy more fighters from Boeing now, delay an F-35 decision 'til later.

At last week's CANSEC defense trade show in Ottawa, Canadian Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan said that the Canadian Air Force's aging CF-18 Hornet fighter fleet would present a "growing capability gap" over the next decade that would make it difficult for Canada to meet its commitment to NATO. "This I find unacceptable, and it's one thing that we plan to fix," Sajjan said.

And as Defense News reports, the fix Sajjan and the Trudeau government will implement was proposed by Boeing. Instead of waiting for the F-35 to become available, Canada would buy a new version of Boeing's F/A-18 Super Hornet--and thus push the need to make a decision on an F-35 purchase into the late 2020s. The "interim" acquisition plan was reportedly presented to the Canadian government by Boeing with a very warm reception.

Canada's government committed to purchasing the F-35 as its exclusive replacement for the CF-18 in 2010. But the delays and cost overruns since then gave Boeing an opening, and the company's executives have proposed various sales of the Super Hornet to Canadian officials over the past four years. Boeing has pointed out that in 2014 a fleet of 65 Super Hornets would cost Canada $1.7 billion (ÂŁ1.2 billion) less than the proposed F-35 purchase.

Boeing made the same pitch successfully to the Australian government, which moved to purchase more Super Hornets (primarily the F/A-18F two-seater variant) for the Royal Australian Air Force because of F-35 program delays. Australia ultimately ordered 24 more F/A-18s in 2015 along with 12 new EA-18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft. Australia originally purchased the Super Hornet in 2007 to replace the RAAF's 1970s-era F-111 Aardvarks (which are still being used as strategic strike aircraft today).

The Super Hornet has had extensive modifications over the previous generation of the aircraft, which currently is the workhorse of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). Work has particularly been done to reduce the vehicle's radar cross-section. While it's not a "stealth" fighter like the F-22 or F-35, its front and rear radar cross-section are dramatically smaller from other current generation fighter aircraft, and it also carries more extensive electronics countermeasures. The Super Hornet also has the advantage of sharing about 90 percent of its avionics with the Hornet--so there will be little retraining required for the RCAF's pilots.

#6  ...FWIW, my understanding is that it might not be that easy - apparently LockMart got themselves one hell of a contract team because if the Canadians buy any F-18s, LockMart is dragging them to court. Popcorn, anyone?

Which would suggest something more like an F-15 than an F-18, IF one were going to exclude the F-35. It'll be a long-range interceptor that can actually handle the ranges involved in patrolling the Canadian arctic.

Monkey In Kenya Sparks 3-Hour Nationwide Blackout
I will do my level best to keep my comments PC.
Kenya's power generation company Tuesday said a monkey caused a three-hour nationwide blackout in the country.

The Kenya Electricity Generation Company (KenGen) said in a statement on Facebook that a monkey climbed on to the roof of the Gitaru Power Station in central Kenya and fell on a transformer. This caused the transformer to trip, further causing other machines to trip on overload and resulted in the loss of 180 megawatts of energy.
I guess nobody wanted to pedal the backup generator.
The company is reportedly the country's largest generator of electricity, providing around 80% of energy consumed in the east African nation. The 225-megawatt Gitaru station is KenGen's largest. The blackout lasted more than three hours Tuesday before power was restored.

The animal survived the incident. "Monkey is alive and taken in by KWS (Kenya Wildlife Service)," a KenGen Facebook post said.

"KenGen power installations are secured by electric fencing which keeps away marauding wild animals," the company said. "We regret this isolated incident and the company is looking at ways of further enhancing security at all our power plants."

Kurds hit ISIS with makeshift mortar stolen from the terror army
The makeshift mortar looked like something from an old pirate ship, and it took the Kurdish fighters several days to figure out how to use the improvised weapon seized in a skirmish with ISIS.
Once they all started yelling "allahu Akbar" everything just kind of fell into place.
When they finally did, they crouched behind sandbags and launched a series of homemade shells found with the device at a village held by the terrorist group a mile away. As each projectile blasted off from the 8-foot tube mounted on a pair of tires, culminating in a puff of smoke on the horizon, members of Kurdistan’s army, known as the Peshmerga, laughed and slapped each other on the back.

"I hope they felt it like I felt the pain I felt in my arm," said a soldier named Ali, still nursing a wound from the recent fight near Sinjar where the curious armament had been found.

The incident, which occurred last week in Kurdish-held territory on the plains just north of Mosul, typified the resourcefulness of both sides. A makeshift rocket launcher crafted from spare parts and ingenuity found in the aftermath of a battle and then turned on its builders.

It was also a snapshot of the clashes occurring in the villages that lie between ISIS’ Iraqi stronghold of Mosul and the Kurdish capital of Erbil. To the south, Iraqi government forces backed by U.S. air power are fighting to retake Fallujah. In neighboring Syria, the de facto capital of ISIS’ caliphate, Raqqa, is under siege from Syrian, Russian, U.S. and Kurdish forces. But in northern Iraq, the battle for Mosul looms, with near-daily skirmishes serving as deadly dress rehearsals.

Iraqis caught in the crossfire ‐ Christians, Kurds, Sunni and Shia Muslims as well as Yazidi and other minorities ‐ do their best to survive as they wait for the coming all-out assault on the black-clad jihadist army.

"Our soldiers believe in the people here and they see the need to protect the people," Brig. Gen. Omer Khalid told FoxNews.com. "We see what ISIS has done with Mosul and [Sinjar] and the people there and we don’t want that to happen here."

Khalid spoke in Hogna, a tiny village on the outskirts of Zummar City and the largest Kurdish-held base near Mosul. On wind-swept, rolling hills dotted with sparse vegetation, the Peshmerga keep watch on ISIS soldiers inhabiting the village in the distance.

For soldiers earning the equivalent of $200 per month to face off against the world’s most dangerous terrorist army, morale-boosting moments such as the firing of the strange mortar break the tense monotony.

Last weekend, ISIS mounted a rare midday raid on the Kurds dug in at Hogna, peppering the base with mortar fire. When the smoke cleared, no Kurds were injured. But the nearly reflexive donning of surgical masks was an unmistakable sign that the threat of a chemical attack is always on their minds.

The attack left the Kurds itching to return fire, but equipment and ammunition is short. International aid is channeled through Baghdad, which maintains often strained relations with the northern, semi-autonomous Kurdish region.

"We need bazookas, rocket-propelled grenades, small arms," said Khalid.

For now, a homemade mortar, stolen from the enemy and turned on him, would have to do.

Wikileaks Founder Julian Assange Claims Google Involved In Hillary Clinton Campaign
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange claims that Google has been working closely with US presidential hopeful Hilary Clinton's campaign in efforts to promote the candidate in the race to the White House. Speaking from the Ecuadorean embassy in London, via video conference as part of a two-day media event named "New Era of Journalism: Farewell to Mainstream", he said: "Google is directly engaged with Hillary Clinton's campaign," the Sputnik reported.

Pointing out that Google's former CEO Eric Schmidt is now heading the Pentagon's innovation branch, Assange said: "Google is heavily integrated with Washington power, at personal level and at business level... Google which has increasing control over the distribution channels... is intensely allying itself with the US exceptionalism."

Commenting on Clinton's nomination prospects, Assange said: "What we have with Clinton is someone who is a hawk but who has the tools of legal interventionism, a rhetorical cover to start the wars, and someone who seemingly wants to start them... From WikiLeaks' perspective Hillary Clinton is a problem in terms of war and peace."

According to a report by RT, Assange is not the only one to have identified a connection between Clinton's campaign and Google. Behavioural psychologist Dr Robert Epstein said in an interview that Schmidt has set up a little-heard-of start-up called Groundword, the sole purpose of which is "to put Clinton in office".

"It's a very secretive organisation, super high-tech stuff, and [it's] very likely they're using these techniques that we've been studying in our research to make sure that votes are shifted to Clinton in November," he added.

"There is a merger between the corporate organisations and state... 80% of the National Security Agency budget is privatised. The NSA is the core of the US deep state... There has been a smoothing out between the government and the corporations," said Assange, indicating that there may be quid pro quo deals between the US government and private tech giants like Google.

"[Google] shows the will to use that at different levels. It will inevitably influence its audience," Assange added.

Assange has been staying in the Ecuadorean embassy in London since 2012 in efforts to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he is wanted for questioning on sexual assault allegations, which Assange has denied. The whistleblower fears that if extradited to Sweden, he could then be extradited to the US where he is wanted for charges relating to espionage, conspiracy, theft of government property and computer fraud for his involvement in the WikiLeaks revelations.

The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention in February declared that Assange was being unlawfully detained and that the British and Swedish authorities should end his detention and grant him freedom. However, British authorities have maintained that Assange faces arrest and possible extradition if he chooses to step out of the confines of the Ecuadorian embassy.

This election is about who runs this country: the special interests or the people - Mr Trump

#1  A truer word was bever spoken. its not about democrat v republican this time, and the clintons and trump were once friends! This is not about red or blue. Its about the system's desperate need for a true outsider, a bright spark who can get things done, to clean out the crap and put a few corrupt people in the Big House where they belong.

The spy bureaucracy wont like it as they have been "wagging the dog" too long, so expect a shedload of lying misinformation along the way.

Democracy needs the informed consent of the people. And the people need someone who will actually represent THEM

Go Trump... MAGA because the rest of the world needs you to put america first for a change and make the country strong again

#3  His speech nailed how most of America feels and certainly how his followers feel. As far as I'm concerned it could be Joe the Plumber giving this speech and I would vote for him. It was interesting to hear those that hate Trump comment on the speech. Their minds have been made up, closed to the point of bias, and unwilling to even consider what he says. He will win, he will reel in the Bernie supporters and crush Hillary.

That being said, if all he does is act like a huge wreaking ball through the entrenched bureaucracy in DC it will be well worth whatever else happens.

#7  Darth, you are right about the crony capitalism problem, BUT, that problem has two sides. The inside is where the politicians live and the outside is where the "capitalists" live.

Given the nature of the insiders is it really fair to blame the outsiders? This is like the argument for unilateral disarmament. Trump knows the outside, hopefully he will attack the real source of the problem, the inside.
And if the outsiders continue to try and bribe the insiders? Well hopefully the rule of law will be reestablished.

Imagine an economy where there wasn't enough money/power in government to make it worth your while to bribe the pols.

#8  This election is about people finally becoming aware that the old republic died and that you need the leader of your own special interest group (one that has been consistently and unrelentingly demonized and scapegoated for decades). Resistance or surrender. The Left by exploiting special interests of smaller and smaller group giving them veto if not outright domination of a large plurality if not majority of the population has created this situation. Their shrill voice and street thuggery shows how intolerant they are of this new emergent special interest group. It's one thing to cobble together an alliance predicated upon hate of the country and the people, it's another when the object of their scorn awake and and resist.

La Raza Judge Gonzalo Curiel and the Hispanic National Bar Association
[Last Refuge] The Hispanic National Bar Association published a press release on July 2nd 2015 which specifically stated their intention to target the "business interests" of Donald Trump:
But of course the facts do not matter to Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, Lindsey Graham, or the insidious Glenn Beck.

Hat tip to former Bush Administration Attorney General Roberto Gonzales for stating the obvious and attempting to set the record straight with regard to the perception of conflict of interest.
This doesn't prove that the judge himself is biased. As was pointed out to me on another forum, every state has bar associations for various minorities. Membership doesn't equal racism. The one with "La Raza" in the name apparently isn't the same odious "La Raza" that we know (though it's curious that they invite the confusion).

But in the end, we're known in part by the company we keep.

#3  I do not think Trump is racist in any way for his comments on that judge.

It is just common sense if you have a policy of building a wall on the border to keep out lllegals (and making mexico pay)

And that policy was misrepresented by lying establishment media to say "trump hates mexicans"

And that angers some mexicans (illegals and those who believe the lies)

Then it is only common sense to say that judge with mexican parents might be biased against him

And yes, same goes for a muslim judge vis a vis his great idea of a temporary halt on muslim migration

I think Trump is a tremendous candidate. I like his policies. I like that he is not taking millions in donations from Saudi Barbaria unlike Shillary Clingon

I like that he will roll back theno-borders multiculturalist fascism we have been forced to accept for 20 years

I would vote for him if i could

He does not belong to any white support groups, and is public about his feelings on Trumps agenda. His being public on his political beliefs, as a judge, he sets himself up for appeal. The courts will be forced to relook it.

It's not the same but it is related to it through the La Raza Lawyers of California which lists the odious La Raza as an affilitate.

Looking at the LRLASD web-site they make a big deal about the definition of La Raza. Seems that it can also mean groups of Mexicans too.

A distinction without a difference to me.

#15  Darth, I think Trump needs to make the point here that the judge is bias so that (a) the judge recuses himself (b) the judge has that subtle pro-Trump lean to avoid claims of bias (c) Trump has claims for the public and the courts to explain the loss.

Iraq
Five dead, eleven maimed in Karbala kaboom
[Iran Press TV] The Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman has denounced the Tuesday deadly boom-mobileing in Iraq's holy city of Karbala as a terrorist act.

Hossein Jaberi Ansari said countering the threat posed by terrorism and extremism requires the national solidarity of the Iraqi nation and firm support by the international community.

He extended his condolences to the Iraqi government, nation and the families of the victims of the attack.

At least five people bit the dust and 11 others maimed after a boom-mobile went kaboom! in central Karbala, 80 kilometers (50 miles) southwest of the capital Baghdad, near the house of Karbala Governor Aqil al-Turaihi on Tuesday.

Iraqi sources said the bombing occurred five kilometers away from the shrines of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein, and his brother Hazrat Abbas.

In a statement later in the day, ISIS Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
group grabbed credit for the attack. The terrorist group has been wreaking havoc on Iraq's northern and western parts since June 2014.

Abadi removes heads of intelligence, media and banks in gov’t reforms
[RUDAW.NET] Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi issued an order on Tuesday removing several officials as part of his governmental reforms.

Abadi removed the general director of Iraqi intelligence, director of the trade bank of Iraq, and head of the Iraqi media network, according to Adil Nuri, spokesperson of the integrity commission in Iraqi parliament.

Also removed from their posts were the directors of Rasheed, Rafidain, Real Estate, Industrial, and Agricultural banks.

These changes comes a day after Abadi issued a statement confirming the government is moving forward to fight corruption, and making comprehensive reforms and building institutions in Iraq.

In the last few months, Abadi reshuffled his cabinet and removed many officials as part of his reform policies and agenda.

Abadi has recently been challenged by protesters in Baghdad who stormed the fortified Green Zone and entered both the Iraqi parliament and council of ministers buildings demanding reform. The protesters were backed by Shia holy man Moqtada Al-Sadr.

Somali commandos whack 20 Shaboobs
KISMAYO, Somalia-Somali commandos have conducted a surprise raid in Berhani, 60km south-west of the southern port city of Kismayo, officials have confirmed on Monday.

Top intelligence figures who asked not to be named have confirmed that the raid by Special Forces led to direct confrontation that subsequently overpowered militants.

A terrorist hotbed was dismantled and 20 militants have been killed in the operation, federal government officials said.

Militants are said to have for long used the hideout as a training camp and possibly as a springboard for terror assaults.

Al Shabaab has not given details on the raid as Somali commando troopers have returned to their earlier position after a 24-hour stay in Berhani.

Somali government forces aided by African Union peacekeepers have intensified anti-militant pushes aimed for fewer bastions controlled by Al Shabaab in central and southern Somalia.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
US guarantees no PYD presence west of Euphrates after ops on ISIL
The United States has provided guarantees that forces from the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) will not retain a presence west of the Euphrates River after U.S.-backed operations against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) are completed in the region, Turkey has claimed.

“If the YPG [People’s Protection Unit, the military wing of the PYD] wants to give logistical support on the east of the Euphrates then that is different. But we do not want even a single YPG militant to the west [of Euphrates] especially after the operations. The U.S. has given a guarantee about this,” Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said June 7 during a televised interview with state-owned broadcaster TRTHaber.

“If they keep their word, they have guaranteed us because the YPG/PYD conduct ethnic cleansing wherever they go,” Çavuşoğlu said.

Çavuşoğlu said the YPG and PYD were conducting ethnic cleansing against people and groups who were “not Marxists, Leninists and atheists,” adding that this was a major threat to the territorial integrity of Syria.

Turkey and the U.S. have been at loggerheads due to the different designation of the PYD and the YPG. While Turkey regards the two groups to be offshoots of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), with which it has been locked in deadly clashes since the mid-1980s, the U.S. – though designating the PKK as a terror organization – sees the PYD and YPG as reliable partners in its fight against ISIL in Syria.

Turkey previously declared that its “red line” would be violated if the PYD and YPG crossed to the west of the Euphrates River, although Ankara has so far been forced to look on as YPG has pursued the fight against jihadists in the area.

Çavuşoğlu said it was “unacceptable” that the U.S. was cooperating with the PYD and YPG, claiming that the groups were sending fighters to “conduct attacks on Turkey,” “perpetrated bombing attacks on Ankara” and “trained terrorists in its camps.”

He said Turkey and the U.S. had had opposing views on the issue from the beginning and that they had expressed themselves “very clearly” to their interlocutors, starting with U.S. President Barack Obama.

2 die in IED blast in Mohmand Agency
GHALANAI: A pro-government tribal elder narrowly escaped while his two security guards were killed and another was injured after an improvised explosives device (IED), planted by suspected Taliban terrorists, exploded at the Ziarat area of Safi tehsil in Mohmand Agency on Tuesday morning.

Officials said that Malik Ayaz Khan, along with his three security guards, was on his way to Ziarat Masood area at Safi tehsil from his home. When he reached Ziarat road, an IED, planted by suspected Taliban insurgents, went off at 8:30am.

As a result of the blast, security guards, Ibrahim Khan, Amjad Khan and Siraj Khan, were seriously injured. Malak Ayaz, however, escaped unhurt.

The injured guards were taken to a hospital in Nawagai area of Bajaur Agency where Amjad and Siraj died.

Confirming the report, Tehsildar Miraj Khan said that soon after the blast, security personnel conducted a search operation in adjoining areas but no arrest was made till late in the night.

The Taliban have intensified attacks on security forces and former peace committee members in the area.

A week ago security forces warned tribesmen in a grand jirga to ensure law and order in their respective areas or stern action will be taken against them.

The Taliban have warned tribesmen through pamphlets distributed in Khakh bazaar in Safi tehsil not to cooperate with the government and security personnel or be ready to face consequences.

The security forces have shut down Khakh bazaar for the last five days because of growing incidents of IED blasts and attacks on security forces and pro-government tribal elders.

Car bomb kills at least 11 in central Istanbul, four arrested
A car bomb targeting a police vehicle in Istanbul’s Vezneciler neighborhood during the morning rush hour killed 11 people, seven of whom were police officers, while wounding 36 others on June 7.

A bomb-laden car was detonated at around 8:35 a.m. as a police bus was passing near a police station, Istanbul Gov. Vasip Şahin told reporters, in the third major bombing in the country’s biggest city in 2016. Şahin said the dead included seven police officers and four civilians and that the attack had targeted vehicles carrying members of a riot police unit. Three of the 36 wounded were in critical condition, he said.

The bomb-laden car used in the attack was rented and detonated using a remote control, Doğan News Agency reported. Four suspects who rented the car have been detained.

The blast on the second day of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan hit the Vezneciler district, between the headquarters of the local municipality and the campus of Istanbul University, not far from the city’s historic heart. It shattered windows in shops and a mosque and scattered debris over nearby streets.

Gunshots were also heard after the explosion, a number of news agencies reported. There was confusion as to whether attackers had opened fire or whether police officers had been trying to protect colleagues.

“We were told that it was police trying to keep people away from the blast scene,” said Mustafa Çelik, 51, who owns a tourism agency in a backstreet near the blast site. He likened the impact of the explosion to an earthquake.

“I felt the pressure as if the ground beneath me moved. I’ve never felt anything this powerful before,” he was reported as saying by Reuters.

The police bus was heading to the Istanbul University for regular duty, according to reports. Exams scheduled for today at the university were cancelled. The police bus that appeared to have borne the brunt of the explosion was tipped onto its roof on the side of the road. A second police bus was also damaged. The charred wreckage of several other vehicles lined the street.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility but militants of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) have staged similar attacks on security forces before, including one last month in Istanbul.

Italian air defense system installed in Turkey's south
An air defense system from Italy, part of a NATO mission to defend Turkey’s southern border with Syria, has arrived in the southern Turkish province of Kahramanmaraş.

The Italian air defense system was brought by sea to the port of İskenderun in Turkey’s south, from where its parts were transported under tight security measures in 36 lorries to the Gazi Barracks in Kahramanmaraş, where German Patriot air and missile defense units have been positioned for three years. The lorries were reported to carry missile batteries and military, technical and health equipment. The delivery was expected to continue in the following days.

The U.S. and Germany pulled back their Patriot air and missile defense units positioned in Turkey’s southern provinces in late 2015 and early 2016. Germany, the United States and the Netherlands all deployed Patriots in early 2013 after Turkey asked its fellow NATO partners for help in protecting its territory amid the escalating civil war in Syria. The Dutch ended their mission in early 2015 and were replaced by the Spanish.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on March 10 that the alliance had agreed with Turkey on Feb. 11 to intensify and increase surveillance of the border between Turkey and Syria in order to protect its member Turkey from possible threats from neighboring Syria.

DC Lawmakers Approve Citywide $15 Minimum Wage
[HOSTED.AP.ORG] Lawmakers in the nation's capital approved a $15-an-hour minimum wage on Tuesday, joining numerous other cities and the states of Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, and New York in mandating pay raises for retail, restaurant and service-industry workers.

The D.C. Council unanimously approved the wage increase, and Democratic Mayor Muriel Bowser has pledged to sign it when it reaches her desk, likely sometime this summer.

The District of Columbia currently has a $10.50 minimum wage that will rise to $11.50 in July under legislation signed in 2014 by Bowser's predecessor, Vincent Gray.

New Turkish air strikes target PKK bases, Kurdish villages
[RUDAW.NET] Turkish warplanes carried out a number of Arclight airstrikes Monday night in the mountains of Sidakan, targeting Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) positions, and putting the lives of many local villagers in danger.

According to the mayor of Sidakan, Karwan Karim Khan, two warplanes carried out four air strikes in the Bradost area.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

has increased Arclight airstrikes against PKK bases in the remote mountain region in recent months, since the resumption of festivities with the army in several cities in the Kurdish areas of Turkey.

Rural life has been badly affected by the bombings particularly in the current farming and harvesting season.

"We have no other choice but to work on other people's farms, sharing what we produce fifty-fifty,"Ali Shirani a Kurdish farmer who recently fled his own village to Turkish bombings told Rudaw.

The Amedi region has been also affected by the Arclight airstrikes where some farmers have been forced to abandon their villages.

According to local authorities, some 440 villages in the Amedi and Duhok regions have been unable to farm and raise their livestock due to the bombings.

US Special Forces active in Manbij offensive, says YPG official
[RUDAW.NET] A group of US military advisers have taken part in the ongoing operation to retake the strategic town of Manbij in northeast of Syria, which started last week, says the spokesperson of the Manbij military council, Sharvan Darwesh.

Darwesh, who is also a member of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), told Rudaw that the US team led the intensive aerial attacks on ISIS positions in and around the besieged city.

An additional 250 US troops were deployed to Syria last month to coordinate with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a military umbrella group which also includes the YPG.

There are currently some 5,000 US troops in Iraq and around 500 in neighboring Syria.

"ISIS defense lines were effectively weakened after repeated coalition Arclight airstrikes and the ground offensive that targeted the town from two directions," Darwesh said and added that the SDF troops were currently located less than 10 kilometers from Manbij.

"If we continue as planned, our troops should be in the city in two weeks," he added.

Manbij, with a population of 80,000, is regarded as a strategic town due to its location in the northwestern corner of the country located between ISIS held Aleppo in the south and Jarablus in the north. The city is some 50 kilometers from the Kurdish controlled Kobani and if retaken from ISIS, it could facilitate an integration of the two cantons of Kobani and Afrin in the northwest, currently separated by ISIS held territories.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

has been a vocal opponent to YPG control of the region fearing it could strengthen the Kurdish guerrillas grip on the bordering areas. It has occasionally shelled the advancing YPG forces in northwest of Syria near its own borders.

Ankara has shown more restraint in the ongoing operations in Manbij after US officials reportedly gave assurances that the YPG forces would retreat from the area after the operation.

Chinese jet intercepts US plane in unsafe manner
[Iran Press TV] A Chinese J-10 fighter jet has intercepted a US plane flying over the East China Sea in an "unsafe manner," US officials say.

The US Air Force RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft was flying above the sea Tuesday, when it was approached by the jet with a "high rate of speed as it closed in" up to 100 feet (30 meter), unnamed military officials told CNN.

The US pilot’s reaction or how long the confrontation took place remained unclear.

Another "unsafe" intercept was reported in mid-May, when two Chinese J-11 tactical aircraft confronted a United States EP-3 reconnaissance aircraft over the South China Sea.

Tuesday’s intercept was reported as the annual US-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue was closing in Beijing, with Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry

'CII should be disbanded'
[DAWN] PPP Senator Farhatullah Babar demanded the disbandment of CII and asked for the Rs100 million fund allocated for the body for fiscal year 2016-17 be withdrawn.

"There is no reason for Council of Islamic Ideology to continue its job and it should not send more reports to the Parliament for legislation," Babar said during his speech on budget in the Senate.

"This is the council which says husband can beat his wife," said Babar said the CII also denied DNA as proof in rape cases.

He said that council had also suggested to the people to write 'Kalma Taiba' on their homes so that culture of Jihad can be promoted.

"A council should not continue its job with so many controversies," Babar said adding that the council has also declared minimum age for a girl's wedding as un-Islamic.

Babar raised concerns over the increase in the annual budget of the council and demanded the government to withdraw the funds allocated for CII.

"Money allocated for the council should be given to National Commission for the Protection of Women," the senator stated.

He added the parliament or provincial assemblies can consult the Ulema if any legislation required an Islamic point of view. "Federal Shariat Court can declare any law as un-Islamic if it feels the need, hence there is no need of a consultative body like the CII," the senator maintained.

Egypt Condemns 25 to Death over Tribal Clashes
[An Nahar] An Egyptian court sentenced 25 men to death on Tuesday for taking part in tribal festivities two years ago that left 28 dead, court officials said.

Of 164 people on trial, 21 received life sentences, equivalent to 25 years, over the deadly festivities in the southern province of Aswan.

Tribal vendettas are common in Egypt's poor, rural south, but the festivities over two days in early April 2014 were the deadliest in several years, according to police.

Long-standing rivalry between the Bani Hilal, an Arab tribe, and the Dabudiya, a Nubian family, flared after a man from one camp sexually harassed a woman from the other.

The two sides had sought to dampen tensions with a reconciliation meeting, but it degenerated into a firefight, leaving three Bani Hilal members dead.

The following day, men from Bani Hilal went to take Dire Revenge and fighting broke out, leaving a further 25 dead and around 100 injured on both sides. Eventually the army intervened to stop the fighting.

Eighteen others were sentenced to between two and 15-year prison terms, while the remaining 100 defendants were acquitted.

The men sentenced to death were convicted of murder, attempted murder and arson, the court officials said.

The court issued its verdict after consulting the mufti of Egypt, who is responsible for interpreting Islamic law for the authorities. His opinions are not binding and he generally endorses death sentences issued by the courts.

The trial was held in another southern province, Assiut, for security reasons. All those sentenced can appeal.

Syrian rebels commence siege of Manbij
[ARA News] MANBIJ – Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Tuesday imposed a siege on the ISIS-held city of Manbij from three directions, after recapturing dozens of villages and farms in the vicinity of the city north of Syria’s Aleppo province.

“Supported by an air cover from the US-led coalition, the SDF troops took over the Manbij suburbs, imposing siege on ISIS militants inside the city,” a spokesman for the SDF military leadership told ARA News.

The Western-backed SDF took over most of the villages to the north, east and south of Manbij city.

“The only route that ISIS terrorists could use to escape is the western exit towards Aleppo,” the official said.

The Syrian Democratic Forces have facilitated the evacuation of nearly 200,000 civilians from Manbij and its surroundings.

“After retaking key areas near Manbij, such as Al-Qaraa, Muhtaraq and Buzkej, the SDF troops were able to help more than 200,000 civilians evacuate the area and head to more stable towns. This was to prevent the terror group from using the people as human shields in the ongoing clashes,” the SDF official told ARA News.

Local sources confirmed that a large number of ISIS militants escaped the city using the western exit, and headed to Aleppo.

“Dozens of ISIS vehicles were seen on Tuesday exiting the city through the western suburb of Manbij towards Aleppo. Those were most likely defectors who escaped the fighting fronts in the south and east of the city,” media activist Alwan Halabi told ARA News, adding that a number of Sharia officials were among those who left Manbij on Tuesday.

Hindu priest in Bangladesh hacked to death, ISIS claims murder
More on this from yesterday.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Suspected bully boyz in Bangladesh hacked an elderly Hindu priest to death on Tuesday, in what police suspected was the latest in a spate of attacks by Islamists on minority groups in the majority-Moslem country.

Three cycle of violence-borne attackers slit the throat of Ananta Gopal Ganguly, 70, while he was enroute to the temple he served in the district of Jhenaidah, about 100 miles (161 km) west of Dhaka, the capital, police said.

"They almost beheaded him before they expeditiously departed at a goodly pace," said police official Hasan Hafizur Rahman.

The attack bore the hallmarks of previous killings by Islamist bully boys. The government banned more than one person riding pillion on a cycle of violence on Monday a day after the wife of a prominent anti-terror security official was rubbed out by three suspected bully boyz on a cycle of violence.

ISIS grabbed credit for killing Ganguly, the US-based monitoring service SITE said, quoting the bully boy group’s Amaq news agency.

Rahman dismissed the group’s claim as "baseless", saying it had no organizational base in Bangladesh and domestic bully boyz were responsible.

A 60-year-old Christian grocer was also hacked to death after Sunday prayers in an attack claimed by ISIS.

Bangladesh has not seen the sort of Islamist violence that has rocked Moslem Pakistain, or even the number of attacks that India has seen over the past decade or so.

Since February last year, bully boyz have killed more than 30 people in Bangladesh, including members of religious minorities, liberal bloggers and academics.

ISIS and al Qaeda have grabbed credit for most of the killings, but the government denies either group has a presence in Bangladesh.

Kenya launches Shaboob hunt along Somali border
It's like a snipe hunt with automatic weapons...
Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the Anti-terror police jointly launched operations aimed at flushing out the reportedly Al-Shabaab elements hiding along the border area of Kenya and Somalia.

The joint manhunt by Kenyan security agents was launched in Mandera County and surrounding localities.

The massive operations come after police convoy patrolling Lafey-Fino Road ran over an improvised explosive device (IED) leaving three police officers injured. The injured police officers were treated and discharged. The porous Kenya-Somalia border is prone to attacks by use of roadside IEDs by the militants.

17 die in Russian air raids in Deir Ezzor province
BEIRUT: Seventeen civilians including eight children were killed in Syrian and Russian airstrikes on a market in eastern Syria on Monday, the first day of Ramadan.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the strikes on Al-Shaara, a town held by the Daesh group in Deir Ezzor province, were suspected to have been carried out by either Russian or Syrian government planes.

The death toll is likely to rise due to the serious condition of some of the wounded, Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.

Residents from nearby villages typically flock to the Al-Shaara market to do their shopping, Abdel Rahman said.

Heavy airstrikes hit Daesh-held areas in and outside the divided city of Deir Ezzor from early Monday, he said.

The Observatory relies on a network of sources inside Syria to gather its information on the five-year-old conflict, which has killed more than 280,000 people and displaced millions. It says it determines whether strikes were carried out by Syrian, Russian or US-led coalition aircraft based on the location of the raids, flight patterns and the types of planes and munitions involved.

Regime airstrikes killed at least 15 civilians in the Daesh-held area of Boleel outside Deir Ezzor city on Friday, according to the monitor.

But the Rooshuns say: "It wudn't us!"

Russian warplanes did not hit the Syrian town of Ashara in the eastern province of Deir al-Zor on Monday where at least 17 people were reportedly killed in an air raid, Russia’s Defence Ministry said in a statement.

Russia’s air forces did not carry out any combat missions in the area, Russian news agencies quoted Defence Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov as saying.

Syrian and Russian warplanes killed at least 17 people in an air raid on a market in Ashara, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group reported. Eight children were among those killed and the toll was expected to rise, it said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the strikes on Al-Asharah, a town held by ISIS in Deir Ezzor province, were suspected to have been carried out by either Russian or Syrian government planes.

“The market was overcrowded on Monday because people were shopping for Ramadan,” Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.

He said many of those killed were from the same family, and that the death toll was likely to rise because of the serious condition of some of the wounded.

Residents of nearby villages typically flock to Al-Asharah market to do their shopping, Abdel Rahman said.

Heavy air strikes hit IS-held areas in and outside the divided city of Deir Ezzor from early Monday, he said.

ISIS controls more than 60 percent of the city, besieging an estimated 200,000 people there.

The militant group also controls most of the surrounding oil-rich province by the same name.

The Observatory relies on a network of sources inside Syria to gather its information on the five-year conflict, which has killed more than 280,000 people and displaced millions.

It says it determines whether strikes were carried out by Syrian, Russian or US-led coalition aircraft based on the location of the raids, flight patterns and the types of planes and munitions involved.

Russia began carrying out strikes in Syria in September 2015, one year after the United States began its air campaign there.

Regime air strikes killed at least 15 civilians in the ISIS-held area of Boleel outside Deir Ezzor city on Friday, according to the monitor.

U.S. Supreme Court Backs Chevron in Treaty Dispute with Ecuador
HT Fausta Wertz. Slimy Atty Shakedown loses again.
The United States Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal lodged by the government of Ecuador that contested a $96 million arbitration settlement awarded to the American oil company Chevron.

Texaco, the company Chevron bought out in 2001, originally filed the suit against the Central American country for breaking from the terms of oilfield development contracts and international agreements.

In effect, the highest court in the U.S. upheld a ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, which favored Chevron in an arbitration deal issued by The Hague's Permanent Council of Arbitration in the Netherlands.

Afghanistan
Taliban beats ISIS to become world’s top terror group in 2015
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Taliban group in Afghanistan has beaten the world’s most dangerous terror group, the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), to secure first place in the list of the world’s top terrorist group.

According to the annual terrorism survey by the State Department, the Taliban group conducted 1093 attacks in 2015 while the ISIS terrorist group conducted 931 attacks.

The number is relatively more higher as compared to ISIS terrorist group as the Taliban group conducts operations in Afghanistan only while the ISIS terror group is actively conducting operations in Syria, Iraq and some other countries, including Afghanistan.

The Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
group has secured 3rd place in the list by conducting 491 attacks, while Maoists/Communist Party fo India-Maoist has secured 4th place by conducting 342 attacks.

The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) mainly conducting attacks in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
has secured the 5th place by carrying out 238 attacks, according to the survey report.

The number of terrorist attacks across the world dropped last year, the first dip since 2012, the report said, adding that the drop, which translated to 14 percent fewer terrorism-related deaths, was attributed to fewer attacks and deaths in Iraq, Pakistain and Nigeria.

Underlying the positive news, though, were some still-disturbing trends. ISIS continues to be a significant threat. Iran remains the "foremost state sponsor" of terrorism. And several countries saw increases in attacks and deaths, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, the Philippines, Syria and Turkey.

Iraq
Commander Says Fallujah Liberation 'Days' away
[An Nahar] The commander of Iraq's operation to retake Fallujah from the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group said Tuesday victory was days away, but progress was slowed by huge numbers of bombs and traps.

"The security forces are advancing towards central Fallujah from the southern side but doing so cautiously, to preserve civilian lives," Lieutenant-General Abdelwahab al-Saadi told AFP.

"In the coming days, we will declare the liberation of Fallujah,
... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids...
" said Saadi, overall commander of the operation launched on May 22-23 to retake the jihadist bastion west of Baghdad.

The Joint Operations Command admitted that progress was being slowed by the astounding number of improvised bombs laid by IS in the city.

"There are tunnels and between 150 and 200 bombs are defused every 100 meters (yards)," it said in a statement.

"Our information is that IS has prepared boom-mobiles which they are hiding in homes, with the intention of attacking us when we enter," the operations command said.

The Hashed al-Shaabi paramilitary force, which is dominated by Shiite militias that have so far operated on the periphery of the city, warned they would move in if the operation dragged on.

Elite forces have struggled to push deep into Fallujah over the past week, citing both tough resistance from IS and concern for the plight of an estimated 50,000 trapped civilians.

Close to 20,000 people have fled outlying areas but very few have been able to slip out of the center, where IS is using them as human shields.

Residents trying to reach the safety of displacement camps set up south of Fallujah were taking massive risks to cross the Euphrates River.

"I saw three children being put in an open refrigerator so they could cross the river, but it sank and one of the children, a little girl, couldn't be saved so she died," a 45-year-old survivor told the Norwegian Refugee Council.

The International Rescue Committee said at least four people, three of them children, have drowned in the Euphrates trying to flee the conflict in recent days.

Families desperate to flee IS-controlled areas have used everything from wardrobes to plastic containers to try to cross the river.

of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group and other terror networks in the country.

The Office of the President said the issue of income sources of the terror groups was discussed during the National Security Council (NSC) meeting chaired by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani today.

The NSC presented their report regarding the income sources of the Taliban group, ISIS loyalists and other terror networks to President Ghani.

The meeting also focused on the security situation of Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
, Uruzgan, Laghman, Kunduz, Sar-e-Pul, Baghlan, Faryab, Paktia, Paktiak, and Kunar province

The Afghan cops were hailed for their bravey in fighting the turbans and instructed the security organs to take necessary steps in a bid to prevent security threats in the mentioned provinces.

Instructions by President Ghani to eliminate the financial sources of the terror groups comes as reports emerged on Monday regarding the illegal mining by Lion of Islam groups and warlords which fuels insurgency and war in the country.

The report by Global Witness released on Monday stated that the illegal mining of the minerals funnels millions of dollars into the hands of corrupt warlords and the bully boy groups besides fuelling the conflict in the country.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
UN: Syrian government still holding up food aid for besieged Daraya
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
is still waiting for Syrian government agreement for an aid convoy to enter the besieged town of Daraya, UN officials said on Tuesday.

"The blockage of aid is a political issue," UN front man Ahmad Fawzi told a regular UN briefing in Geneva. "Daraya is 12 km (7.5 miles) from Damascus, so it can be done but we need the political go-ahead from the government."

Last week Syria's government, under pressure from its ally Russia and other countries belonging to the International Syria Support Group overseeing the grinding of the peace processor, allowed the first UN aid convoy into Daraya since late 2012.

It brought baby milk and medical supplies to support an estimated 4,000 civilians, just in time for Syria to meet a Thursday deadline to improve aid access or face having aid deliveries imposed by air drops.

But the convoy took no food to Daraya, where the UN has said malnourished children will die without outside help. UN officials had hoped food would arrive in a second convoy on Friday, but that was delayed with no government approval.

Jens Laerke, front man for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said the government had later given partial approval for the food convoy.

"That is not good enough," he said. "We are reverting to the government."

Syria's opposition says the government approved the first convoy in a cynical ploy to alleviate international pressure.

Bouthaina Shaaban, a top adviser to Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Despoiler of Deraa...
, said last week that "nobody is starving in Daraya", which was "producing peas and beans and food and wild berries that is enough for the entire Syria".

50,000 Flee Boko Haram Attacks in Niger
[An Nahar] About 50,000 people have fled a town in Niger's troubled southeast after deadly attacks by Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
holy warriors, the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
said Tuesday.

The attacks began Friday against a military post in Bosso in Niger's Diffa region, killing 26 soldiers including two from neighboring Nigeria.

"An estimated 50,000 people or so fled," U.N. refugee agency (UNHCR) front man Adrian Edwards told news hounds in Geneva.

A total of 55 holy warriors from the Nigeria-based Islamist group were killed and "many" injured, according to authorities.

Edwards said most of those fleeing the violence walked westwards to Toumour, some 30 kilometers west of Bosso.

"Many people are reportedly traumatized and worried about their safety. People are sleeping in the open and urgently need shelter and other assistance," he said.

A local journalist working with Radio Anfani told AFP he was sheltering in Toumour with no food, along with many others who fled the violence.

"The Boko Haram gunnies stayed in Bosso from 6:30 pm (1730 GMT) on Friday to 3:00 am on Saturday, burning the military barracks, police facilities and local administration office before looting shops and carting away food supplies," he said.

"Everybody started leaving the town and surrounding villages at dawn after the gunnies had left."

He said that the gunnies used heavy artillery which allowed them to overrun the town's garrison.

- 'Boko Haram in control' -
"They came in large numbers shouting 'Allahu Akbar' (God is Greatest)," he said.

The journalist, who declined to be named, said that he subsequently learned that the fighters returned later on Sunday and "engaged troops redeployed to the town in fierce battle".

"The troops retreated, leaving Boko Haram Death Eaters in control of the town," he said, although the claims could not immediately be verified.

However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
Niger's defence minister Assoumana Malam Issa has said that the military had regained control of the town.

Edwards said some of those displaced had moved on from Toumour and were heading to the town of Diffa, around 140 kilometers west of Bosso, and northwards towards a camp for internally displaced people that is already nearing its maximum capacity of 10,000.

"The welfare of these people and others forced to flee the violence in Bosso is of great concern," he said.

The latest attack was among the deadliest by the jihadist group in Niger since it began launching raids in the country in February 2015 from its stronghold in neighbouring Nigeria.

At least 240,000 people have been displaced in the Diffa region since then.

UNHCR, which has not had a presence in Bosso since the Boko Haram raids began nearly a year and a half ago, said it was working with the authorities and local partners to coordinate the response to the mass exodus.

"A team will be en route to the Diffa region this week," Edwards said.

Boko Haram's seven-year insurgency has devastated infrastructure in Nigeria's impoverished northeast and forced around 2.1 million people in the country to flee their homes, according to UNHCR.

The unrest has left at least 20,000 people dead in Nigeria and made more than 2.6 million homeless.

Iraq
Fallujah residents suffer, in and out of the city
[RUDAW.NET] For the residents of Fallujah who manage to avoid being used as human shields by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
and escape the widespread starvation in the city, their suffering continues when they reach government-held territory where they face lack of resources and possible abuse at the hands of Shiite militias.

An estimated 50,000 civilians remaining in Fallujah face starvation in a city cut off from external aid and controlled by Islamic State (ISIS) bandidos Death Eaters who use dwindling food supplies as a means to control the residents.

ISIS bandidos Death Eaters have offered food to starving locals if they agree to fight with the terrorist organization.

"They told our neighbor they would give him a sack of flour if his son joined them," Hanaa Mahdi Fayadh from northeast Fallujah told Rooters. "He refused and when they had gone, he fled with his family."

Escaped residents of the city tell stories of no fuel to make fires and no food to cook on those fires. Some had only stale dates to eat. "The only thing remaining in the few shops open was dates; old, stale dates and even those were expensive," said Fayadh.

A 50kg bag of flour cost 500,000 dinars, about $450 US, according to Rooters.

ISIS controls the food supplies in the city but many residents had no money to buy food after the Iraqi government stopped paying the salaries of its employees in the city a year ago. The government made the move in an effort to stop any funds from reaching the terrorist group.

"There is widespread food deprivation," Lise Grande, deputy special representative of the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq, told Al Jazeera. "Medicines haven’t made it into Fallujah for months. We know that people no longer have access to clean drinking water and they’re forced to drink out of the irrigation canals. We’re worried that there might even be a cholera outbreak because of this."

ISIS also used the starving civilians as human shields. Azhar Nazar Hadi, from the Sijir neighbourhood in northern Fallujah,
... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids...
said her family was asked by bandidos Death Eaters to move into the city centre.

The bandidos Death Eaters took hundreds of people into the city, Hadi reported, though her family was able to hide. "There was shooting, mortars and festivities. We stayed hidden until the [Iraqi] forces came in," she said.

For those who manage to escape the city, however, their problems are not over.

Those housed in a camp in nearby government-held territory are receiving assistance from a government that has no resources. There are shortages of clean water, food, and medicine in the camp.

"So we are suffering here under difficult conditions," Umm Bariq, recently arrived from south of Fallujah, told the New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
. "We need help here."

Ralph Lauren to cut jobs, close stores across US
[NYPOST] Ralph Lauren is the latest retailer to announce cuts in stores and layoffs.

The fashion icon will be shedding jobs and closing stores as part of its new turnaround plan, the details of which will be unveiled on Tuesday when the company’s chief executive, Stefan Larsson, speaks with analysts.

About 50 stores -- mostly full-price locations -- and 8 percent of the company’s 15,000 full-time employees will be eliminated, according to sources familiar with the plan. The downsizing was first reported by WWD.

Larsson, who hails from Old Navy and H&M, was brought in eight months ago by Ralph -- who remains closely involved as chief creative officer and executive chairman -- to revamp the company amid sagging sales and weak returns. Revenues in the last quarter were flat, but profits exceeded analysts’ estimates.

Arabia
30 die in Taiz fighting
Taiz- Jeddah- Thirty people were killed and injured including three families that were completely wiped out in a frenzied attack staged by insurgency in Taiz.

Before dusk set, and those fasting could break their fast and quench their thirst, the ground was far soaked with blood. Yemenis drained out drop by drop in quest for peace, which the Houthis and ally ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh refuse.

The insurgency overlooks the holy month of Ramadan, in which most Muslim Yemenis offer a day’s fast to Allah for a month. Scores of victims and injured people who had sided with the government were cruelly attacked on Monday.

Taiz awoke on Monday to the sounds of whole families being slaughtered by Insurgency attacks; Houthis had escalated military operations in the third largest city in Yemen. Butchering their way through the city and using all sorts of artillery, pounding residential compounds in Taiz inhumanly, the Insurgency showed true disregard to civilian life.

Sources considered the attacks a retaliation for the governmental delegation making progress at the Yemeni peace talks held in Kuwait.

The attacks took place only hours after the government’s delegation presented a roadmap on normalizing Taiz. The proposition included eight topics to be fulfilled, chiefly indicating that the insurgency militia must abandon the city immediately, halt all military operations and cessation of hostilities against civilians.

At the peace talks, government’s delegation demanded that maps of planted minefields in Taiz be delivered, so that mine neutralization teams can be formed to clear the area for aid delivery later.

Military sources said that the Popular Resistance was able to avert the attack staged by the insurgency militias in Taiz, forcing the militias to eventually retreat across each of the southern and western city fronts.

The Popular Resistance clarified that the militias are exploiting the holy month of Ramdan, given that the fighters would be fasting and weakened. The insurgency is staging a series of attacks to distract civilians away from their religious due diligence.

Pro-legitimacy commander Ayman Al-Mekhlaf in Taiz told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that Houthi militias and their allies are incessantly committing crimes and staging bloodbaths against the innocents of Taiz.

“We have awakened to the first day of the holy month of Ramadan with a massacre of an entire family at hand; in which a mother and five kids were all killed. Moreover, another 24 left injured. All this confirms the violence of the militias and their tactlessness to religious morality and international law,” Mekhlafi said.

“Insurgency militias have become accustomed to bloodshed and murdering the innocent, all those butcheries stand to prove that the end of those militias is near, the wild massacres are proof to bankruptcy,”

“Taiz has left the militias desperate and frustrated–the city proving to stand strong for over a year now teaching militias numerous lessons on heroism and resilience,” Mekhlafi added.

Manbij escapees report endless restrictions under ISIS
[RUDAW.NET] Hundreds of families, many of them women have escaped the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS)-held Manbij in the last few days and sought shelter in areas under Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), reporting hardship and punishment by the krazed killer group against civilians.

"They would not allow us work," said Aisha al-Shindi, claiming that the group had detained many women and causing family breakups.

"If we wanted to go to the Bazaar, we would have to cover our faces. We were living in miserable conditions and nobody would dare go against their orders,"

Fatima Ali, another escapee, said that endless ISIS rules had made it impossible for families to function normally including a mother’s relationship with her children.

"We were not able to go to the Bazaar and buy necessities for our homes," she recalled. "They had imprisoned women at home. If our children went outdoors we were not able to bring them back. If we did not cover our face while going outside, we would be lashed."

The SDF is in the midst of an ongoing offensive against ISIS for capture of Manbij, aiming to cut off the group from Syria’s northwestern border with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
The United Nation has warned that Manbij refugees are expected to increase from 20,000 to more than 200,000 due to battles and bombardment by US led coalition and SDF forces.

According to Yassamin Darwish , economic hardship and high prices of daily needs was commonplace under ISIS control and "We had to buy everything we need in dollar, it was very difficult to make it,"

"It was prohibited for women to get out. We had to decide either to stay home or go out and get lashed. They were taking our men and chopping off their hands." Darwish said.

Since the Manbij operation has begun last week, everyday new villages are liberated from ISIS, and its people recall bitter stories they have witnessed under ISIS

SDF leaders claim that they have captured at least 23 villages from ISIS around Manbij since the start of their operations last week.

With a population of 80,000, Manbij is regarded as a strategic town in the northwest corner of Syria located between Aleppo in the south and Jarablus in the north.

The city is some 50 kilometers from the Kurdish town of Kobani and if retaken from ISIS, it would bring the two cantons of Kobani and Afrin closer.

The Manbij offensive goes parallel to another SDF operation against ISIS in its capital of Raqqa.

"According to the information we received, some families have helped ISIS and left the city from the very beginning to voluntarily join them, so their return is not guaranteed," Zebari explained, using an Arabic acronym for the Islamic State.

"For the rest of the people, including about 2,000 families in Zumar who had no security problems, Peshmerga are helping them to return home," he added. "Some people had members of their family who escaped to Syria or djinn-infested Mosul

at the time of the [ISIS] attack but proved they themselves have no security problems, so they have been helped by Peshmerga to return."

The remarks come as a response to multiple international reports including publications by Human Rights Watch
... During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011, HRW received a pledge from the Foundation to Promote Open Society, of which George Soros is Chairman, for general support totaling $100,000,000. The grant is being paid in installments of $10,000,000 over ten years.Through June 30, 2013, HRW had received $30,000,000 towards the fulfillment of the pledge....
and the United States Department for Human Rights at the end of 2015 and the beginning of this year accusing the Kurdistan Region of closing doors and preventing Arabs from going home to the liberated areas where a mixed population of Kurds and Arabs were living before attacks by the Islamic State.

Almost all Kurdish families fled the city of Zumar at the time of the ISIS attack but many Arab families stayed. Some showed sympathy to the group while others decided to stay simply because they had no other place to go or did not think of the radical group as a real threat at that time.

Kurdish forces recaptured Zumar, located in Nineveh province, in October 2015 and drove ISIS forces of Evil out of the surrounding areas.

13 Killed in Kazakh 'Anti-terror' Raid after Shootings
[An Nahar] Police in Kazakhstan said Tuesday they had killed 13 suspects in an anti-terror operation following deadly weekend attacks by suspected religious radicals.

Gunmen went on the rampage in the city of Aktobe near the Russian border on Sunday, killing three civilians at two gun stores before trying to storm a military base with a hijacked bus, killing three soldiers.

The interior ministry called the attacks -- a rare incident in the relatively stable Central Asian country -- an "act of terror".

Police have blamed "religious radicals" but the authorities have not accused any particular group.

Kazakh mobile phone users received text messages on Monday informing them the country had been placed on heightened terror alert for 40 days.

President Nursultan Nazarbayev
...has served as the President of Kazakhstan since the Fall of the Soviet Union and the nation's independence in 1991. Contrary to commonly held belief, there is a difference between Kazakhs and Cossacks: Kazakhs have mustaches. Or maybe it's the other way around...
had yet to comment on the shootings, but Prime Minister Kasim Massimov said the 75-year-old leader had the situation "under his personal control".

Police said Monday they had killed 12 "criminals" in a counter-terror operation. On Tuesday, they raised the toll to 13, without saying how the 13th person was killed.

The US embassy in Kazakhstan warned citizens of "the potential risk of travelling" to the western part of the oil-rich country.

"Although the Department of State has no further information on potential future attacks in Kazakhstan, the embassy is temporarily restricting official travel to Aktobe," it said in a statement on its website.

Aktobe, a city of about 400,000, is located some 100 kilometers (60 miles) from the Russian border in Kazakhstan's oil-producing west.

Neighboring Kyrgyzstan also announced heightened security measures as it hosts a meeting of heads of government of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), a regional grouping.

Clinton tech aide asks court to keep immunity deal secret
[POLITICO] A former technology adviser to Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as America's Blond Eminence and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Abel P. Upshur ...
is seeking to keep under wraps an immunity deal the aide reached with the Justice Department in its investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server as secretary of state.

A lawyer for Bryan Pagliano
... himself never described as Another Guccifier ...
submitted a sealed motion and exhibits to U.S. District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan Tuesday afternoon, less than two hours before the 5 p.m. deadline Sullivan set for the filing of Pagliano's immunity agreement.

A legal memorandum filed publicly Tuesday confirms for the first time that Pagliano reached such an immunity agreement, and lays out arguments for why he should still be able to assert his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination in a Freedom of Information Act suit a conservative group, Judicial Watch, is pursuing over Clinton's email set-up.

The document also states that Pagliano has filed a motion to keep his immunity agreement under seal.

The battle over whether to make Pagliano's immunity agreement public is an unhelpful development for Clinton's presidential campaign. The discussion over the details of the deal carries implications that someone involved may have committed a crime, although no one has been charged.

#2  If this woman walks, the rule of law isn't worth a plug nickel. The credibility of the FBI won't be worth much if they sell out to the presumptive Democratic candidate. Laws will only be for the little people. The masses will be sharpening their pitch forks while Homeland Security plans mass evacuations of D.C.

Afghanistan
Senior security official killed in North of Afghanistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A security bigshot was killed in an attack by the Talibs in northern Sar-e-Pul province of Afghanistan.

Provincial governor’s front man Zabiullah Amani said Syed Ashrafuddin was killed along with the other security personnel accompanying him in Sancharak district.

According to Amani, Sharafuddin was the district security chief of Sancharak and was killed in the attack that took place in langar area.

He said three security personnel and two civilians including a child were also killed in the attack.

The Taliban group grabbed credit behind the incident and said the district security chief of Sancharak was killed with his five security guards.

Sar-e-Pul is among the relatively volatile provinces in northern Afghanistan where anti-government armed Death Eater groups are actively operating in a number of its districts and often carry out insurgency activities.

In the meantime, the Talibs are attempting to destabilize the northern provinces and have increased their insurgency activities in a number of the provinces including Sar-e-Pul, Faryab and Kunduz.

The group launched a major offensive late in April this year in Kunduz province with an aim to recapture the control of the strategic Kunduz city but the attack was repulsed by the Afghan cops.

Fight against ISIS topped Mansoor’s agenda during his visit to Iran
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Taliban supreme leader Mullah Akhtar Mansoor visited Iran to discuss with the country’s authorities regarding the growing issue of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group in Afghanistan.

According to the local media reports in Iran, Mansoor spent around 2 months in Iran and reached to an agreement on a number of issues of bilateral interest with the Iranian authorities.

One of the agreements Mansoor reached with Iran was to help counter the issue of dissident Taliban groups joining ISIS ranks in Afghanistan.

Mansoor had also agreed with the Iranian authorities to prevent the expansion of ISIS loyalists in northern bordering regions of the country and Afghanistan-Tajikistan border.

The report also adds that Mansoor had reached to an agreement regarding the smuggling of opium and illicit drugs.

According to the report, accurate information regarding the movement of Mullah Mansoor was provided to the US forces as he was targeted while he was on his way in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
province of Pakistain.

Mullah Mansoor was killed in an Arclight airstrike on 21st May as he was travelling in a vehicle with a Pak passport.

The report by the Iranian local newspaper meanwhile adds that Pakistain’s Inter Service Intelligence could have disclosed information regarding Mansoor to US forces, noting his deteriorating relations with Pakistain.

The growing threats posed by the loyalists of ISIS terror group in Afghanistan have not been a source of tension to the Afghan authorities but Afghanistan’s neighboring countries, including Iran and Central Asian countries are worried that the terror group further expand foothold in the region.

Attempts by ISIS terrorist group to expand foothold in Afghanistan and in the region has also sparked concerns among the Taliban leadership as the two groups have entered into bloody festivities for several times in some parts of the country.

The supporters of the two groups also declared Jihad against each other earlier last year.

Dostum asks Ata Mohd Noor not to spark tensions among Jamiat, Junbish parties
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Vice President General Abdul Rashid Dostum
...ethnic Uzbek warlord who distinguished himself fighting the Soviets and the Taliban. The story that he had a bad guy run over with a tank is an exaggeration. It was an armored personnel carrier...
has asked the acting provincial governor Ata Mohammad Noor not to spark tensions among Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
and Junbish-e-Milli parties.

Ata Mohammad Noor is a prominent political figure and Chief Executive of Jamaat-e-Islami who has reportedly blamed Gen. Dostum among several other prominent political figures for the recent upheavals in Balkh province.

However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
Gen. Dostum dismissed the allegations by Noor as baseless and inappropriate, saying he is involved in some of other major national issues related to northern parts of the country, apparently pointing towards his efforts to suppress the growing threats posed by the Taliban group.

The Vice President also added that he is thinking about resolving the issues of Afghanistan and asked Noor not to further spark tensions among the two political parties.

He also advised Noor not to be deceived by certain individuals who are attempting to brainwash him and further spark tensions among Jamaat and Junbish parties.

This comes as tensions have heightened among the two prominent political parties during the past recent months.

Tensions among Junbish and Jamaat supporters ensued earlier in March after the portrait of Gen. Dostum was removed from Mazar-e-Sharif city which led to widespread demonstrations by his supporters.

Meanwhile,
...back at the wine tasting, Vince was about to start on his third quart...
a deadly clash erupted among the supporters of the two parties in northern Faryab province last month which left several people dead and numerous others maimed.
