Israel pounds Hamas after 15 injured in rocket barrage
[JPost Breaking] IDF strikes 12 Hamas terror targets after close to 50 projectiles fired towards southern Israel. The Israel Air Force retaliated by striking targets in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday evening after 15 people were treated for injuries resulting form rocket attacks from Gaza against southern Israel.

Following the barrages the IAF struck 12 terror targets including a plant used to manufacture components intended for the construction of tunnels as well as a tunnel for maritime terrorism along Israel's coast.

A number of terror targets in several military sites, including weapons and rockets, as well as a military compound that serves as a central logistic warehouse were also hit by IAF jets.

Red Alert sirens continued to sound in the South into late in the evening.

Hamas issued a statement saying: "We are delivering on our promise. The resistance accepted the responsibility to even the playing field with the enemy and it is succeeding in doing so."

According to the IDF, 36 projectiles were launched from the Hamas-run enclave as of late Wednesday night; four were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system.

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman held a security assessment with senior military and defense officials at the IDF Kirya Headquarters in Tel Aviv following the initial rocket barrage.

According to Barzilai Medical Center, six people were treated for body injuries and nine people were treated for shock.

Four of the projectiles fell in Sderot. A 34 year old was in light-to-moderate condition with wounds from glass shards and a 20 year old was in light condition with injuries to his limbs from Iron Dome shrapnel.

Civilians were treated at the scene after suffering from stress, including two pregnant women who started having contractions.

Two homes in Sderot were also reportedly hit by the shrapnel and several cars were damaged.

The rocket fire from Gaza came shortly after an IDF tank struck Hamas posts in Gaza after shots were fired across the border towards civilian engineering vehicles working on the IDF’s underground barrier with the coastal enclave.

At least one Gazan citizen was reported injured.

"Terrorists shot at civilian vehicles that were being used in an effort to construct the barrier around the security fence in the northern Gaza Strip. One vehicle was hit," the IDF said.

Earlier on Wednesday, the IDF closed several roads near the Gaza border after warning that it was concerned about a retaliatory attack by Hamas after two of its elite members were killed in an IDF strike on Tuesday.

According to the IDF, Route 25 and several other smaller roads were closed after Hamas was identified as having cleared several military positions along the border and threats made by the group.

The rocket fire also comes as a senior Hamas official said that UN and Egyptian-mediated cease-fire talks between the terror group and Israel have reached "advanced stages," with a deal expected to be signed soon.

"We can say that actions led by the United Nations and Egypt are in advanced stages and we hope it could yield some good from them," Khalil Al-Hayya, deputy Hamas chief in Gaza, told Al Jazeera television.

"What is required is for calm to be restored along the border between us and the Zionist enemy (Israel)."

On Sunday, Israel’s Security Cabinet met to discuss the proposed cease-fire agreement. The Prime Minister’s Office released a statement afterward saying that the IDF was ready for any eventuality.

Despite the cease-fire talks, dozens of fires have ignited following the continued launching of aerial incendiary devices into southern Israel. In response, IDF aircraft have continued to strike the cells launching the devices.

Hundreds of such devices have been launched towards Israel since late March when Gazans began weekly protests along the border with Israel.

The protests have been called the greatest threat to Israeli security in the region since Operation Protective Edge in 2014, due to the combination of terror tunnels, riots, attempted infiltration and the use of incendiary items.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, 158 Gazans have been killed since the start of the weekly "March of Return."

Caribbean-Latin America
Venezuela Dodges Oil Asset Seizures with Export Transfers at Sea
Like our friends the NORKS.
Hat tip: gCaptain

Venezuela’s state-run oil company PDVSA has limited the damage from an unprecedented slump in crude exports by transferring oil between tankers at sea and loading vessels in neighboring Cuba to avoid asset seizures.

But the OPEC member nation is still fulfilling less than 60 percent of its obligations under supply deals with customers.

Venezuela has been pumping oil this year at the lowest rate in three decades after years of underinvestment and a mass exodus of workers. The state-run firm’s collapse has left the country short of cash to fund its embattled socialist government and triggered an economic crisis.

PDVSA’s problems were compounded in May when U.S. oil firm ConocoPhillips began seizing PDVSA assets in the Caribbean as payment for a $2 billion arbitration award. An arbitration panel at the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) ordered PDVSA to pay the cash to compensate Conoco for expropriating the firm’s Venezuelan assets in 2007.

The seizures left PDVSA without access to facilities such as Isla refinery in Curacao and BOPEC terminal in Bonaire that accounted for almost a quarter of the company’s oil exports.

Conoco’s actions also forced PDVSA to stop shipping oil on its own vessels to terminals in the Caribbean, and then onto refineries worldwide, to avoid the risk the cargoes would be seized in international waters or foreign ports.

Instead, PDVSA asked customers to charter tankers to Venezuelan waters and load from the company’s own terminals or from anchored PDVSA vessels acting as floating storage units.

The state-run company told some clients in early June it might impose force majeure, a temporary suspension of export contracts, unless they agreed to such ship-to-ship transfers.

PDVSA also requested the customers stop sending vessels to its terminals until it could load those that were already clogging Venezuela’s coastline.

Initially, customers were reluctant to undertake the transfers because of costs, safety concerns and the need for specialist equipment and experienced crew.

But PDVSA has managed to export about 1.3 million barrels per day (bpd) of oil since early July, up from just 765,000 bpd in the first half of June, according to Thomson Reuters data and internal PDVSA shipping data seen by Reuters.

That was still 59 percent of the country’s 2.19 million bpd in contractual obligations to customers for that period, and some vessels are still waiting for weeks in Venezuelan waters to load oil.

There were about two dozen tankers waiting this week to load over 22 million barrels of crude and refined products at the country’s largest ports, according to Reuters data.

"We are not tied to one option or a single loading terminal," PDVSA President Manuel Quevedo said on Tuesday of the company’s exports. "We have several (terminals) in our country and we have some in the Caribbean, which of course facilitate crude shipping to fulfill our supply contracts."

CUBAN CONNECTION
PDVSA has also used a route through Cuba to ease the impact of the Conoco seizures. That route is for fuel rather than crude.

The Venezuelan company has used a terminal at the port of Matanzas as a conduit mostly for exporting fuel oil, according to two people familiar with the operations and Thomson Reuters shipping data. Venezuela’s fuel oil is burned in some countries to generate electricity.

Two tankers set sail from the Matanzas terminal for Singapore between mid-May and early July, Reuters data showed. Each ship carried around 500,000 barrels of Venezuelan fuel, Reuters data shows.

In recent months, Venezuela has been shipping fuel to Matanzas in small batches, according to the data.

PDVSA and Cuba’s state-run oil firm Cupet have used Matanzas to store Venezuelan crude and fuel in the past but exports from the terminal to Asian destinations are rare.

That is in part because vessels that use Cuban ports cannot subsequently dock in the United States due to the U.S. commercial embargo on Cuba.

Cupet did not respond to requests for comment.

PDVSA has also used ship-to-ship transfers to fulfill an unusual supply contract it has with Cuba’s Cienfuegos refinery.

The refinery dates from the 1980s ‐ when Cuba was a close ally of the Soviet Union during the Cold War ‐ and the facility was built to process Russian crude.

PDVSA typically uses its own or leased tankers to bring Russian crude from storage in the nearby Dutch Caribbean island of Curacao to Cienfuegos. But it is now discharging the imported Russian oil at sea in Cayman Islands’ waters via these seaborne transfers.

ConocoPhillips last month ratcheted up its collection efforts by moving to depose officials from Citgo Petroleum, PDVSA’s U.S. refining arm, arguing it had improperly claimed ownership of some PDVSA cargoes.

Citgo declined to comment.

ConocoPhillips is also preparing new legal actions to get Caribbean courts to recognize its International Chamber of Commerce arbitration award. If it succeeds in those efforts, it would be able to sell the assets to help satisfy the ruling.

Working Class Americans: ‘Isolating' To Be the Only English Speaker on the Job
[Breitbart] American workers in blue collar jobs are grappling with the "isolating" prospect that their workplaces are increasingly dominated by non-English speaking foreigners.

In two reports over the last few weeks, white working class Americans chronicled and interviewed by the Washington Post and Humans of New York, revealed the gripping impact of mass immigration on the country’s workers.

The Washington Post report follows the story of 20-year-old Heaven Engle and 25-year-old Venson Heim, a couple who work at the Bell & Evans Plant 2 in Fredericksburg, Pennsylvania.

The couple is outnumbered in the chicken processing plant as Spanish speakers primarily from the Dominican Republic make up the vast majority of their colleagues.

"It sucks when you can’t talk to no one," Heaven told the Washington Post.

"I would rather sit and talk. It would make the day go faster," she said.

After a work meeting, conducted primarily in Spanish, Heaven took a smoke break while all the other foreign workers went on a lunch break. She met her boyfriend, Venson, outside so the two would have each other to speak to.

"They don’t give a rat’s ass about people with white skin," Venson told her about the work meeting, as described by the Washington Post.

The gov't doesn't care about your ability to converse with fellow workers. The employer pays the withholding taxes. The Unions pay the gov't, and the wheels of the State/Fed tax and Social Security ponzi schemes roll on.

Welcome to the new reality. Not actually a 'new reality' however. It's been going on for decades, with the tacit approval of a our gov't.

Europe
Syrian refugee: Austrians should take refugees in their homes and give them their money
[VoiceofEurope] Aras Bacho also suggested that as taxes paid by citizens to support refugees are not donations, that is compulsory, therefore Germans and Austrians should pay voluntary donations to be ‘truly humane’, citing Jesus from the Bible to emphasise his suggestion.

“All Christians should naturally know that Jesus said ‘give men in need your home and all your money.’ As you can see, not all Christians adhere to this guideline,” Bacho insists.

Most Europeans these days are atheists, Mr. Bacho, so that is not a useful argument. Separately, Hafez al Assad has sent word for Syrians to return home to rebuld their country now that the war is just about over. It is time for you to go back, willingly or no.

Did Jesus really say that? Or is that yet another distortion of the Old and New Testaments to be found in Koran, Hadiths and the accumulated teachings of Islam used to justify shearing the dhimmi sheep?

Nigel Farage: Twitter wants to target conservative speech
via Gates of Vienna, Infowars
The big tech giants are moving fast against the political right, the libertarian radicals, and those walking away from the Democrat Party in the United States. The same applies in my country, the United Kingdom, too.

Over the weekend we saw Candace Owens, a strong, young, black woman suspended from Twitter for daring to point out the allegedly algorithmic hypocrisy of Twitter by replacing the word "white" with "Jewish" in a series of tweets modeled on those by New York Times editor Sarah Jeong.

While the social media giant quickly backtracked, the same cannot be said for its treatment of right-wingers or globalist opponents in other regards.

Recently we discovered that activists, politicians, and even political party leaders were being shadow banned by Twitter -- meaning that their accounts or their tweets were not immediately searchable, unlike those of their left-wing counterparts.

...These platforms that claim to be "open" and in favor of "free speech" are now routinely targeting -- whether by human intervention or not -- the views and expressions of conservatives and anti-globalists.

This is why they no longer even fit the bill of "platforms." They are publishers in the same way we regard news outlets as publishers. They may use more machine learning and automation, but their systems clearly take editorial positions. We need to hold them to account in the same way we do any other publisher.

...That’s why I believe we urgently need to prosecute this issue in the public square and campaign for a social media bill of rights in our respective countries. And for those that don’t take issue with the latest censorship of right-wingers by big social media -- unless we take a stand now, who knows where it could end.
First they came for Alex Jones, but I didn't care because Alex Jones is an a$$hole

Colleges: A Force For Evil
[Townhall] Many of the nation's colleges have become a force for evil and a focal point for the destruction of traditional American values. The threat to our future lies in the fact that today's college students are tomorrow's teachers, professors, judges, attorneys, legislators and policymakers. A recent Brookings Institution poll suggests that nearly half of college students believe that hate speech is not protected by the First Amendment. Of course, it is. Fifty-one percent of students think that it's acceptable to shout down a speaker with whom they disagree. About 20 percent of students hold that it's acceptable to use violence to prevent a speaker from speaking, over 50 percent say colleges should prohibit speech and viewpoints that might offend certain people. Contempt for the First Amendment and other constitutional guarantees is probably shared by the students' high school teachers, as well as many college professors.
The only thing worse than no intellectuals are fake intellectuals
...One might be tempted to argue that the growing contempt for liberty and the lack of civility stem from the election of Donald Trump. That's entirely wrong. The lack of civility and indoctrination of our young people have been going on for decades.
And we said nothing yet about the professional competence of the graduates

El-Sayed lost his bid for the Democrat nomination for governor to 50.1 percent to 34.6 percent, according to numbers published by the New York Times.

Saad came in fourth in the five-way race, capturing only 20.1 percent of the vote.

Cori Bush lost her primary to William Lacy Clay, 62.3 percent to 30.2 percent, the Times results show.

Hawaii’s primary election will be August 11. Stay tuned to see if Ing fairs any better.

Rahm Emmanuel is Pouring Fuel on Chicago Fire.
h/t Instapundit
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel didn’t set off the violence that gripped Chicago neighborhoods last weekend. But his new police policies will pour fuel on Chicago’s savage tinderbox.

Deanna told us how some Chicago neighborhoods turned into shooting galleries last weekend, when 60 people were shot, and nine died. But that’s not all. By the time 6 a.m. Monday rolled around, the butcher’s bill climbed to 74 shooting victims. Twelve of those died.

...But Mayor Rahm Emmanuel and Illinois attorney general Lisa Madigan (both Democrats, like you needed to ask) have a great idea on how to fix the police in Chicago.

...Their fix is called the Chicago Police Department Consent Decree.

...So what’s in the consent decree? Basically, it has 200+ pages of red tape and restrictions on policing in Chicago. Needless to say, the rank-and-file beat officer is not amused, and the Fraternal Order of Police plans to fight it.

...

#5  Rahm Emanuel follows in the great tradition of past Chicago mayors (sarc on)

We can't say that for the time when Richard J. Daley was mayor, especially in the '50s-'60s (he was mayor until he died in '76).

He was brutal to the gangs and thugs (who weren't paying him 'tribute' anyway). He did back down some after the race riots in the mid-'60s after being told to do so by the LBJ administration.

There would have been 10,000 cops with shields, guns and billy clubs 'canvassing' each neighborhood for young ruffians (or just young, male and non-anglo)if there had been a weekend like this.

Plus there were still multiple foot patrols (rough no-nonsense guys) in the problem areas that tended to keep things from getting out of hand.

Muslim group plans to sue US over terror watch list system
A Muslim civil rights organization said Tuesday it plans to file a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the federal government's terror watch list system, including a newly disclosed program in which air marshals have secretly monitored air passengers with no known terrorism links.

Gadeir Abbas, senior litigation attorney with the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said the group will file the lawsuit Wednesday in federal court in Greenbelt, Maryland, on behalf of more than 10 Muslim travelers who allege they faced harassment at airports and suffered other consequences because of being placed on a terror watch list. The plaintiffs are from Maryland, Florida, Michigan, Oregon, Kansas, New Jersey and Washington, DC.

Abbas said the defendants named in the lawsuit will include the Department of Homeland Security, the Transportation Security Administration and other government agencies.

I don’t doubt some of those on the list ought not be, and I understand that there is, or at least used to be, no way to challenge one’s inclusion on it. But as I recall, CAIR was an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation terror funding trial, making their involvement suspect.

Florida sheriff blasts Al Sharpton over rally: 'Go back to New York. Mind your own business'
[FOX] A Florida sheriff on Monday responded to sharp criticism from the Rev. Al Sharpton for not arresting a white man who shot and killed an unarmed black man during a parking lot dispute last month.

Sharpton criticized Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri at a Sunday rally for Markeis McGlockton.

McGlockton was shot on July 19 by Michael Drejka in Clearwater, according to FOX13 Tampa Bay. Drekja told deputies he feared for his life and police at the time chose not to arrest him, citing the state’s “Stand Your Ground” law.

“This case should not be tried in a parking lot of a convenience store,” Sharpton said. “It should be tried in a courtroom.”

Gualtieri was asked about Sharpton’s comments Monday during a press conference for an unrelated investigation.

“It's a bunch of rhetoric. I don't pay much attention to it, to tell you the truth. I wasn't there, and I don't really care what Al Sharpton has to say,” Gualtieri said. “Go back to New York. Mind your own business.”

CNN blames severe thunderstorm on Climage Change (video)
[Right Scoop] CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota blamed Climate Change this morning for a violent thunderstorm that produced baseball-sized hail in Colorado yesterday.

Ok first of all, this happening in August is probably more common than these ditzy CNN anchors would like to admit. After all, August is one of the hottest months out of the year, if not the hottest.

And when you consider that Colorado is on the outskirts of tornado valley ‐ which is called that because it’s an area where cold Canadian air mixes with hot, dry Mexican air AND hot, moist air from the gulf to form severe thunderstorms that cause both hail and tornados ‐ well it doesn’t seem that odd really. In fact it seems quite normal for this time of year.

I mean sure, seeing big baseball-sized hail hitting the land and water like that is quite impressive. And I definitely wouldn’t want to be underneath it. But to jump the gun and suggest it’s because of Climate Change, well in my opinion is quite, quite dumb.

Shahbaz Sharif's son-in-law declared 'proclaimed offender'
[DAWN] An accountability court in Lahore on Tuesday declared PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif
...Pak dynastic politician, brother of PM Nawaz Sharif, chief minister of Punjab...
's son-in-law, Imran Ali Yousaf, a proclaimed absconder on the request of National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Yousaf is accused of receiving graft in excess of Rs12 million from Ikram Naveed, the former CEO of the Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

Power Development Company (PPDC), and is the subject of a NAB probe.

He appeared before NAB Sherlocks in April but has since missed his scheduled hearings and left the country for London.

The bureau, which last month requested the interior ministry to extradite Yousaf via Interpol, today told the accountability court that "warrant of arrest against the accused has been issued by NAB chairman".

"As per IO (investigation officer), the accused has gone underground and is not traceable."

In the light of this, the bureau asked the court to declare Yousaf a proclaimed absconder ‐ a request that was accepted.

In its notice to Yousaf, NAB had said: "In the inquiry against Ikram Naveed it has been revealed that you are in possession of evidence which relates to the commission of the said offences. You are also required to record your statement with respect to amounts transferred by Ikram Naveed to you."

According to a source, the then CM’s son-in-law was also accused of "getting Naveed appointed as PPDC CEO who allegedly committed massive corruption. NAB is quizzing Yousaf on the information provided about him by Ikram Naveed."

TLP to contest by-polls, continue protests: Rizvi
[DAWN] Converting most of his speech into prayers and cursing those who opposed "deen" (faith) in the recent elections ‐ meaning thereby the opponents of Tehrik-e-Labaik Pakistain ‐ the party chief, Khadim Hussain Rizvi, on Monday vowed to fight "for mandate of his party, which was stolen in the polls."

Addressing a protest rally on The Mall, cut short by rain in the afternoon, Mr Rizvi, using his choicest Punjabi expletives, said that those who thought the TLP could be scared into submission were wrong in their calculations. "We are here (to stay) and would continue to fight till the end."

Explaining the TLP strategy, which gave clues to things to come, he said the party knew that its mandate had been stolen and would act on two prongs to get its due right back; contest by-elections and continue to protest on the roads.

"It (TLP) would not leave the field open for anyone. It would take part in by-elections and would do so better prepared," he announced. He asked the party workers to go and prepare for the by-elections.

On the second prong, the TLP was convinced that the result transmission system (RTS) never crashed but was "made to crash" for stealing its mandate.

"The LP would continue protesting till the end. It would take out a rally on August 12 in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
and would return to the Lahore roads on August 14. Next protest plan would be announced after Karachi event and it will surely come," Mr Rizvi said.

He demanded that the Election Commission should upload all Form 45 and 46 on its website so that people knew what had exactly happened in their constituencies. "It is also time for the election commissioner to either quit himself or be thrown out because he has failed to conduct free and fair elections."

Khanzada Ajmal Zeb filed the petition saying ’N’ in the PML-N stands for Nawaz Sharif and since the former premier was convicted in a corruption case, the court should ask the ECP to delete ’N’ from the PML-N.

The respondents in the petition are the chief election commissioner, ECP secretary and Nawaz Sharif.

The petitioner said Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah was the head of the Moslem League, who wanted the party to be a symbol of good governance, development and national interest.

He said Nawaz Sharif was responsible for the division of the PML as he had hijacked the party before forming own faction, PML-N and registering it with the ECP.

The petitioner said the former premier was recently sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by an accountability court for corruption.

Zainab's killer handed death penalty for rape, murder of 2 more girls
[DAWN] In another trial held inside a prison, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday handed Imran Ali ‐ who is currently incarcerated and on death-row for the rape and murder of six-year-old Zainab Amin ‐ the death penalty
on five more counts for the rape and murder of two other girls.

Ali, a resident of Kasur, was involved in at least nine incidents of rape-cum-murder of minors, including Zainab, which he had confessed to during her murder investigation.

ATC Judge Sajjad Ahmad Sheikh handed down the penalty judgement after the prosecution established the role of 24-year-old Ali in the rape and murder charges framed in cases 352/16 and 188/17.

In case 352/16 registered in April 2016, he was sentenced to one count of death, two counts of 25 years of rigorous imprisonment, one count of two years RI and one count of one year RI under PPC Sections 376(3), 364-A, 337-A(1), and 337-F(1), and Anti-Terrorism Act Section 7(c).

Iran dismisses US talks offer as Trump reimposes sanctions

...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
reimposed crippling sanctions on Tuesday.

Trump's withdrawal from the agreement in May has infuriated European partners who were determined to keep it alive and now find their businesses operating in Iran faced with the threat of US legal penalties.

The sanctions that went into effect on Tuesday target Iranian access to US banknotes and key economic sectors including cars and carpets.

Much of the damage has already been done, with Trump's aggressive rhetoric fuelling a run on the rial in recent months, while worsening inflation has stoked public protests against the government's management of the economy that have intensified over the past week.

Fighting in India-held Kashmir leaves 2 rebels, 4 Indian soldiers dead
[DAWN] Four soldiers and two suspected rebels were killed on Tuesday in a gunbattle along the highly militarized de facto border that divides the disputed region of Kashmire between India and Pakistain, the Indian army said.

The six combatants were killed in fighting that erupted after a group of snuffies crossed from Azad Jammu and Kashmire into the India-held portion in Gurez sector, said Indian army front man Col. Rajesh Kalia.

He said the army's patrolling party intercepted the infiltrating group early Tuesday.

Military authorities rushed in a reinforcement of soldiers to the mountainous and forested area where they were still conducting searches for other possible holy warriors.

One among the army's fatalities was an officer.

There was no independent confirmation of the incident.

Afghan amputee marchers embark on gruelling peace trek
[DAWN] Twenty Afghan amputees, some in wheelchairs and others on crutches, began a gruelling trek of hundreds of kilometres across Afghanistan on Tuesday, demanding an end to the war that cost them their limbs.

The "peace convoy" began its journey in the western city of Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
and will finish on the other side of the country in the capital Kabul, running the gauntlet of turbans, roadside kabooms and blistering temperatures.

"We are taking this journey of more than 1,000 kilometres (620 miles) to Kabul to tell the world to stop the war," Mohammad Musa, 40, who lost both legs in a landmine kaboom, told AFP.

"The war has brought nothing except destruction." Abubaker Qaderi, whose right leg was blown off by a roadside kaboom 15 years ago, called for a "permanent ceasefire" in the latest conflict, which began with the 2001 US-led invasion.

"War must stop, we want peace," the 50-year-old told AFP before setting off towards Kabul.

"For the sake of the next generation, they should stop fighting," another protester called Khan Zai told AFP.

India's apex court to hear petition of Kathua rape witness against police brutality
[DAWN] The prime witness in Kathua rape case, Talib Hussain, on Tuesday sought protection from India's Supreme Court after claiming that he was beaten up in police custody, Times of India reported.

A petition in this regard was filed in New Delhi by Hussain's family. Upon his lawyer Sunil Fernandes' request for an urgent hearing, Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and Justices D Y Chandrachud and Indira Banerjee agreed to schedule a hearing for Wednesday.

Hussain has been at the forefront of a campaign seeking justice for an eight-year-old girl who was kidnapped, raped and murdered in the Kathua district of Indian-held Kashmire.

He was reportedly booked by the police when a relative filed a complaint against him alleging that she was attacked and raped by him whilst she was grazing her cattle in the forest.

In June, Hussain's wife had also filed a complaint alleging that he had tortured her and demanded dowry.

The activist believes this was done in an attempt to "malign him for raising his voice to seek justice for the Kathua rape and murder victim".

He was granted pre-arrest bail in that case by the Indian-held Kashmire High Court.

Hamza bin Laden married daughter of another al-Qaeda leader, not 9/11 hijacker
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] In an article published on Sunday, British newspaper The Guardian reported that Hamza Bin Laden, the son of the late al-Qaeda leader, married the daughter of Mohammed Atta, the lead hijacker in the 9/11 terror attacks.

Research undergone by Al Arabiya English has found this to be false.

Hamza bin Laden is, however, confirmed to have married the daughter of al-Qaeda’s second-in-command, Abdullah Ahmad Abdullah, who is deputy to current leader Ayman al-Zawahri.

Abdullah is nicknamed "Abu Mohammed al-Masri," as mentioned in a report by Al Arabiya English in January.

This information was obtained from al-Qaeda archives that were confiscated from the hiding place of the late Osama bin Laden
... who used to be alive but now he's not...
in Abottabad.

Earlier this year, in January, Al Arabiya English received footage and details surrounding Hamza’s wedding. The ceremony took place in Iran when he was 17 years old.

The man who married the couple was Mohammed Shawki al-Islambouli, the brother of Khalid al-Islambouli, assassinator of former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat.

The video shows Hamza sitting next to Mohammed al-Islambouli, while on his other side sits Abu Mohammed al-Masri.

Bin Laden’s three other sons also attended the wedding with a number of his grandsons.

During the wedding, Islambouli carried out the ceremony, in which the identity of Hamza’s wife was revealed as Maryam Abdullah Ahmad Abdullah.

Canada to ask allies to help cool Saudi dispute
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Canada plans to seek help from the United Arab Emirates and Britannia to defuse an escalating dispute with Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, sources said on Tuesday, but close ally the United States made clear it would not get involved.

The Saudi government on Sunday recalled its ambassador to Ottawa, barred Canada’s envoy from returning and placed a ban on new trade, denouncing Canada for statements about "civil rights activists". Riyadh accused Ottawa on Tuesday of interfering in its internal affairs.

One well-placed source said the government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau planned to reach out to the United Arab Emirates.

"The key is to work with allies and friends in the region to cool things down, which can happen quickly," said the source, who declined to be identified because of the sensitivity of the situation.

Another source said Canada would also seek help from Britannia. The British government on Tuesday urged the two nations to show restraint.

- who criticized Trudeau after a Group of Seven summit in June - has forged tighter ties with Riyadh.
Pretty Boy Trudeau made his bed, now he gets to lie in it.

Saudi Arabia’s foreign files: Abdelnasser’s Yemen and Khamenei’s Yemen
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Saudi-Yemeni conflict was not interrupted for long during the nine decades of the Saudi kingdom’s age. During this long period of time of more than one generation that witnessed consecutive wars, battles and political crises, the latter were always resolved via treaties, agreements and even customs, and Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
always concluded with positive results.

Beginning with the 1934 Taif Treaty, two years after the kingdom was unified, the Yemeni citizen was granted the citizens’ privileges, in terms of permanent residency, freedom of movement, work and ownership and did not lose this important merit until after their country supported the 1990 invasion of Kuwait. During the 60 years of neighborliness, no problem obstructed the kingdom from supporting Yemen and resisting any political or military intervention that harms the country’s stability and journey.

Notices issued on father’s plea for transfer of Naqeeb murder case
[DAWN] The Sindh High Court on Monday issued notices to suspended Malir SSP Rao Anwar and others in a petition seeking transfer of Naqeeb murder case and another case to some other antiterrorism court.

The then SSP Malir along with his subordinates has been facing trial before the ATC-II for allegedly killing Naseemullah, better known as Naqeebullah Mehsud, and three others in a staged encounter on Jan 13 in a Malir locality.

He has also been facing charges pertaining to framing the four men in explosives and illicit weapon cases.

Naqeeb’s father Mohammad Khan, through his lawyer Faisal Siddiqui, moved the SHC stating that he had no confidence in the judge of the ATC-II who was hearing both cases.

He submitted that the trial court was allegedly giving undue benefits to the suspects by not passing orders on his objections and he had reasonable apprehension that the presiding officer of the trial court would not be able to act fairly and impartially while deciding the cases.

The petitioner further submitted that the trial court had developed a bias in favour of Rao Anwar and his subordinates and the bias was apparent since to date the presiding officer had failed to consider and pass any order on the applicant’s written objections.

He maintained that it was a settled principle that while hearing a bail application a court should not go into deeper appreciation of evidence.

Iraq to reluctantly comply with US sanctions on Iran: PM
[DAWN] Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said Tuesday he would reluctantly comply with renewed US sanctions on neighbouring Iran, but recalled his country's 12 years under international embargo.

"We don't support the sanctions because they are a strategic error, but we will comply with them," he said.

"In general, sanctions are unjust."

Iraq is the second-largest importer of Iranian non-hydrocarbon products, buying some $6 billion (5 billion euros) worth of goods from its eastern neighbour in 2017.

It also buys in Iranian-generated electricity in efforts to deal with chronic power cuts that have been a key factor sparking mass protests in recent weeks.

"We are committed to protecting our people and their interests," Abadi said.

2 girls school set on fire in Pishin district
[DAWN] Unidentified assailants allegedly set 2 girls schools on fire in Tehsil Khanozai area of Pishin district on Tuesday night and fled, DawnNewsTV reported.

education secretary has said that action will be taken against those involved in the incident.

Besides, there have been no reports of casualties so far as the schools were closed at the time of the incident.

Last week, person or persons unknown had burned down at least 12 schools in Gilgit-Baltistan's Diamer district, causing panic among residents, locals and police had said.

Diamer Superintendent Police (SP) Roy Ajmal told Dawn that 12 schools ─ at least half of which are girls-only schools ─ had been set on fire overnight. He said that in some cases, books had also been thrown outside the schools and set alight.

An initial report of the incident has been submitted to the chief minister, according to GB Information Minister Shams Mir.

According to the report, the "miscreants" carried out the attacks in an "organised manner". The assailants first vandalised the buildings and then set them on fire, said the report.

Raheel Sharif did not obtain NOC from cabinet for heading Saudi military alliance, SC told
[DAWN] The Supreme Court was informed by the attorney general on Tuesday that former army chief Gen Raheel Sharif
...Former Pak chief of army staff, meaning he pulls the strings on the Nawaz Sharif puppet to make it dance and sing and not do much at all....
did not obtain a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the federal cabinet before leaving for Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
to head a 41-nation military alliance.

During the hearing of a suo motu
...a legal term, from the Latin. Roughly translated it means I saw what you did, you bastard...
case regarding dual nationality of civil servants and judges, Attorney General Khalid Jawed Khan said that as per the law, the NOC is issued by the federal government to government officers willing to join service in foreign lands. It is required for the NOC to be approved by the federal cabinet under government service rules, he added.

The attorney general presented the legal perspective after defence secretary retired Lt Gen Zamirul Hassan informed the court that it was the defence ministry which had granted NOC to the ex-chief of army staff after General Headquarters (GHQ) cleared him to accept the post of Commander of Islamic Military Counterterrorism Coalition in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Speaking about Lt Gen Ahmad Shuja Pasha, the secretary told the court that the former ISI director general has informed in his reply that he is currently unemployed.

After hearing all sides, a three-judge bench of the SC headed by Chief Justice of Pakistain (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar ordered authorities that the matter of Sharif's appointment be placed before the federal cabinet for a regular approval (or disapproval).

"We have to proceed according to the law," the CJP said during the hearing, observing that the authority of the federal government is controlled by the cabinet. He said the matter at hand was of an urgent nature.

China-Japan-Koreas
N. Korea Frees S. Korean Detainee Arrested in July, Says Seoul
[AnNahar] North Korea on Tuesday released a South Korean who was tossed in the slammer
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
after crossing the border last month, Seoul's unification ministry said, welcoming the "humanitarian" gesture.

The North told the South Monday of its decision to release the man, who was detained for crossing into the country on July 22, the ministry said in a statement.

"Our side received a South Korean national surnamed Seo, born in 1984, through Panmunjom from the North at 11:00 am (0200 GMT)" on Tuesday, the ministry said, referring to the truce village in the Demilitarized Zone dividing the two countries.

"The government positively appreciates the repatriation... which was made on humanitarian grounds", it said without elaborating.

Relations between North and South have improved markedly following a summit between their leaders in April.

An unidentified ministry official told Yonhap news agency the man was currently being questioned by South Korean authorities.

"We have to investigate to know why he went to the North and how he got there," the official said.

Apart from Seo, Pyongyang since 2013 has detained six South Koreans -- three Christian missionaries and three defectors originally from the North -- and Seoul has been pushing for their release.

The nuclear-armed regime released three US detainees in May in an apparent goodwill gesture before a summit between North Korean leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
and US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
in Singapore.

Since the Singapore summit in June, relations have improved between the US and North Korea but progress on denuclearisation has been slow, with Washington urging the need to maintain tough sanctions against Pyongyang.

Judge orders DOJ to preserve emails from Comey's personal account
[The Hill] A judge has ordered the Department of Justice (DOJ) to preserve any emails located on former FBI Director James Comey's personal email account after a government watchdog revealed he used the account to conduct government business.

The order issued Monday in federal court in Washington, D.C., comes in response to a request from the right-leaning group Judicial Watch asking for the records to be preserved for use in possible Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.

"In order to avoid any possible issues later in this litigation, the Court will grant Plaintiffs’ Motion. Defendant is ordered to take all necessary and reasonable steps to ensure that any records that are potentially responsive to either of the Plaintiffs’ FOIA requests located on former Director Comey’s personal e-mail account are preserved," U.S. District Court Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly wrote.

The judge said the DOJ had failed to explain why it was an "undue burden" to preserve records from Comey's personal account. Judicial Watch has requested that records of meetings between Comey and top Democrats, including former President Obama, be preserved.

The agency "has not explained why this preservation order would prejudice Defendant or cause any undue burden. Indeed, it appears that Defendant is taking steps to ensure the preservation of these records already," she wrote.

Manafort trial judge suggests prosecutor so ‘frustrated' he's tearing up
[The Hill] The judge in former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort’s trial suggested to a prosecutor for special counsel Robert Mueller that he is "so frustrated" that there were tears in his eyes.

Bloomberg reported that U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III made the comment to prosecutor Greg Andres during a discussion out of earshot of the jury and members of the media.

"I understand how frustrated you are," Ellis said. "In fact, there’s tears in your eyes right now.’’

Andres disputed Ellis’s statement, to which the judge replied, "Well, they’re watery."

Tensions have existed between the prosecutors and Ellis throughout the trial. The judge has asked members of both sides to refrain from making facial expressions that might influence the jury.

He has also criticized Mueller’s team for presenting too much evidence on Manafort’s spending, arguing that spending on luxuries is not a crime.

Bloomberg reported that Ellis and Andres had other tense private conversations during the trial on Monday, during which former Manafort associate Richard Gates testified that he and Manafort committed crimes.

Andres claimed that Ellis was preventing him from asking essential questions for the trial. Ellis disputed that he was prioritizing speed over the prosecutor’s arguments.

Akron: Chinese-Canadian chemist pleads to synthetic drug import scheme
[Cleveland.com] Bin Wang, a Canadian citizen and native of China, was part of an operation where people ordered drugs on a series of foreign websites, officials say. The drugs were shipped to Wang, who worked in the Boston suburbs. Wang then shipped packages domestically.

Wang, 43, was arrested in 2017 before boarding a plane to Toronto.

He pleaded guilty to 10 counts, including charges of conspiracy, distribution of synthetic drugs and use of a communication facility for drug dealing. Prosecutors and Wang have entered into a plea agreement in which both sides agreed to seek a prison sentence of between 57 and 71 months.

Home Front: Politix
Hey BuzzFeed, Che Guevara Was A Bloodthirsty Terrorist
[The Federalist] The terrorist Ernesto "Che" Guevara met his karmic end, executed without a trial in a muddy hut by CIA-trained Bolivian operatives, in 1967. Since that moment, however, his life has been endlessly romanticized by the Left‐a trend that doesn’t seem to be abating.
He died, crying like a little bitch, using the "Don't you know who I am?" line
His life isn’t only idealized by Communists or Cuban tyrants, but by old-fashioned American liberals who have a longstanding practice of whitewashing socialist history. The cult includes authors; retail clothing chains; filmmakers like Robert Redford, who watched his romantic ode to Che with the murderer’s widow in Havana; pop icons who vacation in Communist Cuba; commemorative Irish postage stamp designers; a parade of intellectually stunted zombies walking around your local campuses with idealized portraits of Che their T-shirts; and a number of media outlets, which now include BuzzFeed.

The newest entry into the genre is a Vox-style 9-minute explainer, which is to say a grossly misleading history called "Che Guevara Becomes A Legend After Death." It’s a biography tantamount to producing documentaries about the lives of Augusto Pinochet or Benito Mussolini without mentioning their vicious suppression of political opposition.

Although the BuzzFeed viewers will learn that Little Ernesto suffered from debilitating asthma, they do not learn that Che took the lead in creating a secret police and gulag in Cuba, where thousands of people guilty of nothing more than thought crimes‐ including priests, innocent bureaucrats, and anyone with homosexual mannerisms‐were sent to spend decades as slave labor.

Boko Haram Kills Seven Villagers in NE Nigeria
[AnNahar] Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
jihadists have killed seven villagers in a dawn raid in Nigeria's restive northeast, local militia and a resident said Tuesday.

Gunmen in trucks and on cycle of violences late Monday attacked Munduri, a village 13 kilometres (eight miles) north of Borno state capital Maiduguri, firing guns and rocket-propelled grenades, according to resident Abdullahi Bunu.

"The attackers seized seven people and beheaded them before setting fire to the entire village," militia leader Umar Ari told AFP by telephone from Maiduguri.

Those who were decapitated were the village chief and his wife, Bunu said.

"We returned this morning and found the entire village burnt along with all our food supplies and livestock".

Boko Haram has intensified its armed campaign in recent weeks, including against military targets in which dozens of troops are believed to have been either killed or missing.

The rebels have split into two groups, and it was not immediately clear which was behind the latest attack.

A faction loyal to Abubakar Shekau
... the lunatic leader of Boko Haram who has been reported dead at least eleven times, pledged his body and soul to ISIS, told his fighters to hang it up once or twice, and been fired by the Caliph and refused to step down ...

The statement further added that the operation was conducted in Zarghoon area of the district and as a result at least four holy warriors were arrested.

One of the key Taliban Überstürmbannführers identified as Khalid was also among those arrested, the statement said, adding that the detained Taliban Überstürmbannführer was involved in major destructive activities which had destabilized the province.

Afghanistan's recent economic recovery may be at risk, warns World Bank
[KhaamaPress] The World Bank released its latest twice-a-year report regarding the development update in Afghanistan and warned that the country’s recent economic recovery may become at risk.

The report states that following the economic shock of the withdrawal of international troops, the associated decline in aid and deterioration in security, and the period of political instability after the 2014 elections, the Afghan economy has slowly regained momentum as reforms have been implemented and confidence restored, with the GDP growing from a low of 1.5 percent in 2015, to 2.3 percent in 2016, and reached 2.7 percent in 2017.

However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
the report states that this trend now appears to be at risk, with increasing election-related violence, declining business confidence, worsening drought conditions, and apparent slowing of economic activity.

According to the World Bank report, growth is projected at 2.4 percent in 2018, with substantial downside risks arising from the prospects of political instability around upcoming parliamentary and district council elections and presidential and provincial council elections, scheduled for October 2018 and April 2019 respectively.

"At the current juncture, the most important priority for the government and its international partners is to maintain public confidence to support growth and job creation," said Shubham Chaudhuri, World Bank Country Director for Afghanistan. "More than half of Afghans now live in poverty. We cannot afford to see the current momentum lost."

According to the World Bank, government macroeconomic policies remain appropriate in the current conditions. The fiscal deficit for 2017 was low at around 0.5 percent of GDP, and a similar deficit is expected in 2018. The deficit will be financed largely from cash reserves, which remain at comfortable levels. Revenues remain strong, with domestic revenues reaching a new high of 12.3 percent of GDP in 2017. Consumer price inflation remained moderate in 2017, at around 3.1 percent, and is expected to remain at moderate levels through 2018.

According to Chaudhuri, sustaining the recent recovery will require enhanced government efforts to improve the business environment and catalyze private investment and job creation while ensuring smooth election processes. He noted that the international community also has a key role to play: "Sustaining international support is critical to overall confidence and underpins the capacity of the government to implement the reforms we all view as vital."

The World Bank states in its report that it is projecting a gradually accelerating growth over coming years, assuming a relatively smooth election process, no further deterioration of the security environment, and the absence of political instability that followed 2014 elections.

According to World Bank, growth is expected to reach 2.8 percent in 2019 before accelerating gradually to 3.6 percent in 2021.

Chaudhuri noted that much faster rates of growth would be required to make a substantial impact on poverty. "Significantly faster growth could be achieved by mobilizing investment in extractives, energy and connectivity, building and harnessing the skills of Afghanistan’s youth and women, and taking steps to realize the job-creation potential of agriculture and agribusinesses" he said.

Britain
Boris Johnson Asked to Apologize over Attack on Burqas
[AnNahar] British Prime Minister Theresa May backed calls Tuesday for her former foreign minister Boris Johnson to apologize for disparaging comments he made about Moslem women wearing burqas.

May said his remarks "have clearly caused offense" and agreed with the chairman of her Conservative party, Brandon Lewis, who had asked Johnson to apologize.

"I do think that we all have to be very careful about the language and terms we use. And some of the terms Boris used describing people's appearance obviously have offended," the prime minister said.

"What's important is do we believe people should have the right to practice their religion and, in the case of women and the burqa and niqab, to choose how they dress."

In a column in Monday's Daily Telegraph newspaper, Johnson said women wearing the full face veil looked like "bank robbers" or "letter-boxes", prompting accusations of Islamophobia
...the irrational fear that Moslems will act the way they usually do...
But the former top diplomat, who has a reputation for causing controversy and quit May's cabinet last month in protest at her Brexit plan, refused to back down.

"It is ridiculous that these views are being attacked - we must not fall into the trap of shutting down the debate on difficult issues," a source close to Johnson told news hounds.

"We have to call it out. If we fail to speak up for liberal values then we are simply yielding ground to reactionaries and myrmidons."

- 'Dog-whistle tactics' -
In his article, Johnson said he opposed a ban on face-covering veils, but added that it was "absolutely ridiculous that people should choose to go around looking like letter-boxes."

His remarks drew condemnation from former colleagues.

Junior foreign minister Alistair Burt told the BBC: "I would never have made such a comment, I think there is a degree of offense in that, absolutely right."

Conservative peer Sayeeda Warsi, a former party chairwoman, accused Johnson of adopting the "dog-whistle" tactics of right-wing firebrand
...firebrands are noted more for audio volume and the quantity of spittle generated than for any actual logic in their arguments...
Steve Bannon, U.S. President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's former top aide.

Johnson has been in direct communication with Bannon in recent months, according to media reports.

Warsi said Johnson was hoping to attract support from right-wing Conservatives for an eventual leadership bid, and called for an independent inquiry into Islamophobia in the party.

"It is crass and it must stop, and it must be condemned by the leadership right from the prime minister down."

But Johnson received support from some quarters, with Conservative MP Nadine Dorries saying he "did not go far enough."

"Any clothing a woman is forced to wear which hides both her beauty and her bruises should be banned and have no place in our liberal, progressive country," she said.

Trump's chosen candidate appears headed for victory in tight race in Ohio's 12th

[Cincinnati.com] President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's endorsed candidate appeared to eke out a win in an extremely tight central Ohio race in Ohio Tuesday ‐ but it should have never been this close.

Trump's name wasn't on the ballot in the reliably Republican district, but his brand was. Trump repeatedly endorsed Republican state Sen. Troy Balderson over Democrat Danny O'Connor, a county elected official, to fill the remaining months of former U.S. Rep. Pat Tiberi's term.

Trump flew into Ohio Saturday to campaign for Balderson in a crowded, overheated high school gymnasium. "(Balderson)'s really tough. He's really smart. He never stops working," Trump said of Balderson, a former Ironman race competitor. "It's Ohio's 12th district, and he's going to hopefully be here a long time."

The message was clear: a vote for Balderson was a vote for Trump.

And it seemed to work. With 99 percent of the vote in, Balderson led O'Connor 50.1 percent to 49.3 percent in Tuesday's unofficial final vote. The margin was just over 1,600 votes.

The race had not been officially called by any news organizations, and O'Connor had not conceded as of 10:30 p.m.
The Columbus Dispatch had all the inside baseball beforehand. A taste:
The special election matchup between Republican Troy Balderson and Democrat Danny O’Connor in the GOP-dominated 12th Congressional District is regarded as a possible harbinger of which party will control Congress, as well as a virtual referendum on President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
‐ especially after he campaigned in the district Saturday.

But with polls showing a very close race, will we know who won even after Tuesday’s ballots are counted?

No one knows quite what to expect, in large part because a competitive August congressional election is unprecedented in recent Ohio history.

"Typically in the August special elections, nobody turns out, but with all the hoopla, who knows?" said Aaron Ockerman, executive director of the Ohio Association of Election Officials.

While odds are that the outcome will be known Tuesday night, Ockerman said, "If it’s super close, you probably won’t see either person concede."

If the election remains too close to call after Election Day, no new results will be announced while officials wait 10 days for provisional ballots; ballots from overseas and military voters; and absentee ballots postmarked by Monday that arrive by the end of the period. (You also can return your absentee ballot in person to your county board of elections before the polls close Tuesday.)

If the winning margin is less that 0.5 percentage points once that count is completed, a recount is mandatory.

#3  It’s tight, according to the Politico link:

With 100% of precincts reporting, the special election in Ohio's 12th district is too close to call.

Troy Balderson (R) has 50.2 percent of the vote with 100% of precincts in, compared to 49.3 percent for Danny O'Connor (D). There are still 3,300 provisional ballots and some more absentee ballots outstanding.

But this is only for holding the seat until the winner of the November election is sworn in next January, so if the Democrat wins now there is still that to look forward to.

11 killed, nearly 70 wounded in Chicago weekend shootings
[DAWN] At least 11 people were shot and killed and about 70 others were maimed over the weekend in reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
... home of Al Capone, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel,...
, in a spasm of gun violence that police attributed mostly to gangs and that the president’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, used to criticise the city’s Democratic leadership.

The violence peaked early on Sunday, including one shooting on the city’s South Side that maimed eight people.

By comparison, at least seven people were killed and 32 were maimed during the long Memorial Day weekend, which is often one of the most violent weekends of the year for the city, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Gang members are using large summer crowds as cover in some cases, police Patrol Chief Fred Waller said.

"They take advantage of that opportunity and they shoot into a crowd, no matter who they hit," he said.

Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson planned to discuss the violence at Monday news conference. Police have said violent crime has declined overall in Chicago. Still, anti-violence protesters have blocked highways to voice their outrage.

Chicago ended 2017 with fewer homicides, 650, than 2016, when there were 771. Although the drop was significant, it exceeded the combined number of killings in New York City and Los Angeles, which are the two US cities bigger than Chicago.

Chicago’s gun violence has drawn widespread attention, including from President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
and his lawyer, Giuliani, who blamed the problem on Chicago’s longtime "Democratic rule" in a series of tweets on Sunday and Monday.

[PJ] House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) said on Monday that there is exculpatory evidence in classified documents regarding former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page that the FBI should have included in its FISA applications and those documents still need to be declassified.

"There is exculpatory evidence that we have seen of classified documents that need to be declassified," Nunes said. "The judges should have been presented with this exculpatory evidence that the FBI and DOJ had," he added.

Nunes appeared on Fox News's "Hannity" Monday evening to discuss the latest developments in the FISA abuse scandal. He and other Republicans have been pressing President Trump to declassify 20 pages of the FBI's FISA warrant so the American people can see it for themselves.

The congressman said on Fox News last week that the American people would be shocked by what is in those 20 redacted pages.

He also told Hannity that Bruce Ohr, a former top official at the Department of Justice, will become a "more and more important" figure in what has become known as SpyGate, and urged investigative journalists to start digging into his role in the Obama era scandal.

"I think people should pay close attention to it," the California Republican said.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Spearhead of Gaza border protests says ‘We’ve lost battle for public opinion’
[IsraelTimes] Activist who sparked weekly 'March of Return' calls on Paleostinians 'to reexamine all our tactics and to invent new ones,' citing high number of casualties.

A Paleostinian activist widely held to be the inspiration behind weekly protests and riots on the Israel-Gazoo border fence in recent months, which have greatly increased tensions, has called for a "tactical withdrawal" since the practice has become "too costly."

"We have lost the battle for public opinion," Ahmed Abu Artema, a political activist and journalist who is now a front man for the so-called "March of Return," said in a TV broadcast last week. A Facebook post he published earlier this year calling for peaceful protest ultimately mushroomed into large-scale, often violent, Friday demonstrations.

Since March 30, weekly festivities have taken place on the Gazoo border. Israel accuses terror group Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,, which rules Gazoo, of using the demonstrations as cover for attacks and attempts to breach the security fence.

Abu Artema had originally called for the marches to be mass, peaceful protests seeking an end to the siege on Gazoo and a return to what Paleostinians call their ancestral homes in Israel. They have instead become hotbeds of violence.

The March of Return "has been an attempt to create a certain model," the 33-year-old said on August 1, in remarks broadcast by Al Jazeera and translated Monday by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI). "We tried to associate this form of struggle with images of life and beauty. This is the philosophy of peaceful struggle... [Israel] is trying to present us in an image of death and terrorism."

But, he said, "unfortunately we have lost the battle for public opinion in the March of Return, when it became associated in people’s minds with blood and the loss of limbs," he said. "This is very scary."

At least 160 Paleostinians have been killed by Israeli fire and thousands have been maimed since the protests began, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. Hamas, a terror group that has vowed to destroy Israel, has acknowledged that dozens of those killed were its members.

One Israeli soldier was rubbed out by a Paleostinian sniper.

The March of Return protests have also seen Paleostinians fly airborne incendiary devices toward Israeli territory nearly daily, sparking hundreds of fires in southern Israel and causing millions of shekels in estimated damages. Hundreds of rockets and mortars have been launched toward Israeli towns.

Domestic pressure on the military to halt the burning flying objects has intensified, leading to Israel carrying out warning Arclight airstrikes and increasing the possibility that violence could escalate.

Speaking at a symposium titled "The Paleostinian Cause ‐ Proposals on the Table" organized by Hamas, Abu Artema said, "The images of torn limbs, maimed people, blood and deaders are very painful, and must drive us to reexamine all our tactics and to invent new ones."

"This is not an attempt to water down the March of Return, but it is okay, from time to time, to engage in a tactical withdrawal, if you sense that your path has become too costly," he suggested. "There is nothing wrong with a tactical withdrawal, which will preserve the original idea. We want to save the idea itself from death."

Paleostinians say the demonstrations are aimed at the return of refugees and their descendants to their former and ancestral homes in Israel, and to bring about the lifting of Israeli restrictions on the movement of people and goods into and out of the coastal enclave.

Israeli strike kills two Hamas militants in Gaza
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] An Israeli strike on Tuesday killed two forces of Evil of the Gazoo Strip’s ruling Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, movement after shots were fired at soldiers, Gazook and Israeli officials said.

The krazed killer group’s military wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, confirmed in a statement that the dead men were its fighters, naming them as Ahmed Murjan and Abdel-Hafez al-Silawi.

It said a series of kabooms had targeted a military site while it was being visited by big shots, without naming them.

An Israeli military statement, apparently referring to the same incident, said that the army returned fire after shots were fired at its soldiers from a Hamas post in the northern Gazoo Strip, next to the border with Israel.

Paleostinian security sources said that the Israeli attack was in the north of the strip.

A video distributed by the Israeli army appeared to show a tank striking a military post in the Gazoo Strip.

The military said it was prepared "to target any aggression against Israel and holds Hamas responsible for everything happening in and from the Gazoo Strip."

It added that no Israeli troops were maimed in the exchange.

Hamas warned Israel that it would pay for the attack, without elaborating.

"The resistance cannot allow the occupation to impose a policy of bombing sites and targeting fighters without paying the price," it said in a statement.

Speaking later, Hamas leader Ismail Haniya condemned what he called a "crime."

He said the movement was facing "rapid political and field developments."

Since Paleostinian protests and festivities along the Gazoo border erupted at the end of March, at least 160 Paleostinians have been killed by Israeli fire.

One Israeli soldier has been rubbed out by a Paleostinian sniper.

The protests call for Paleostinians to be able to return to the land they or their families fled or were expelled from in the 1948 war surrounding the creation of Israel.

Israel says any such return would mean its end as a Jewish state.

Gazoo’s rulers Hamas have fought three wars with Israel since 2008.

In a statement issued by the JI provincial headquarters here on Monday, secretary general of the party Abdul Wasi said investigations had been launched against those, who reportedly violated the party’s policies and discipline during the recent election.

He said JI provincial chief Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan had expelled Shura members in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar

Mr Wasi said the basic party membership of those members had also been terminated.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Pro-regime Druze militia in Syria hangs ISIS member
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Pro-government Druze turbans hanged a member of ISIS in Syria’s Sweida on Tuesday, a monitor said, just days after the snuffies executed a young hostage from the minority group.

ISIS kidnapped more than 30 Druze civilians -- women and their children -- from a remote village less than two weeks ago, during a brutal onslaught in the southern province.

The hostage situation and beheading has sparked outrage among the Druze, and on Tuesday a militia struck back.

"A member of ISIS was detained during an attack against a pro-regime position in the Sweida countryside," said Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

During the assault, an ISIS jacket wallah killed four government loyalists but other militia members managed to detain a second bully boy fighter.

"Druze turbans loyal to the regime executed the ISIS fighter in one of the public squares in Sweida city, by hanging," said Abdel Rahman.

Sweida 24, a local news outlet, said the ISIS member had been caught Tuesday morning in a desert area of the province.

Hundreds of people watched the execution, according to both the Observatory and Sweida 24.

Sweida province is the heartland of the country’s Druze minority, which made up around three percent of Syria’s pre-war population -- or around 700,000 people.

On July 25, ISIS waged a series of suicide kabooms, shootings, and stabbings that left more than 250 people dead across the province, most of them civilians.

It later emerged the snuffies had also kidnapped more than 30 Druze women and their children during the attack.

While ISIS grabbed credit for the violence, it has made no mention of the abductions on its usual channels.

But local sources say the group is using the hostages as a bargaining chip to pressure Syria’s government to release snuffies in its custody.

A top Druze religious official told AFP the negotiations were taking place with Russian mediation, and in coordination with Syria’s regime.

"Security forces received information that 20 Islamic State snuffies had sneaked into al-Zanjily district in western Mosul to carry out terrorist attacks against residents there," Major Khalil Ibrahim told IKH News on Tuesday.

"Immediately, the troops launched a security campaign in search of the IS terrorists, managing to arrest eight of them," Ibrahim said, adding that 12 other Death Eaters managed to escape into an unknown location.

According to Ibrahim, "among the arrestees are IS leaders of Arab and Ottoman Turkish origins." He added that a manhunt was launched in search of the other IS terrorists.

Moreover, a security source pointed out that an army force found four tunnels containing light weapons, ammunition, and cell phones in the area between Rabia city and the Syrian territories (135 km northwest of Mosul).
