UN: Russia must end torture, prosecute prison guards
Russia must halt torture of detainees and prosecute the perpetrators, including prison guards caught on video beating an inmate, United Nations human rights investigators said on Friday.

The UN Committee against Torture, in a rare move, told Russian authorities to report back in a year on progress in holding to account guards who beat Yevgeny Makarov with truncheons and their superiors who suppressed the year-old tape, which provoked a public outcry.

The Threat Democratic Socialism Threatens Minorities
[Atlantic] Last week, the leftist magazine Jacobin published an article arguing that "the spectacular rehabilitation of socialism as a legitimate position within American politics, particularly among young people, is one of the most significant developments for the socialist movement in decades." I maintain that those young people aren’t being told the whole story.

When I first responded last week, my focus was a passage the authors intended as an acknowledgement that what they call "socialism from above" is dangerous.

They wrote:
Socialists don’t just want to replace private ownership with state ownership. In the same way we don’t believe that capitalists should be able to have disproportionate control over economic resources, we don’t think unaccountable state officials and bureaucrats should have the power to control investment and production through ’socialism from above.’ In some cases, like the former Soviet Union, the failings of such a system are nearly as deep as those of capitalism itself."
I inveighed against the notion that the Soviet economic system, with its many epidemics of mass starvation and death, was less flawed than market capitalism. Upon reflection, the authors changed their article to better reflect their actual belief: that "in some cases, like the former Soviet Union, the failings of such a system are as clear as those of capitalism."

#1  So, "Democratic Socialists are teh real racists!"?

People on the right have been using variations of this argument for decades now. Has it actually accomplished anything? The sad reality is that a large number (majority?) of minorities will be happy to take whatever Free Shit is on offer and if costs white taxpayers in the bargain, than so much the better.

No surprise that this is a Conor Friedersdorf article.

Ebola outbreak in Congo claims more lives, vaccinations underway
[10 News] The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo's North Kivu province claimed more lives as the country's Health Ministry announced on Thursday a new death in the city of Mabalako.

At least 37 people have died so far in this latest outbreak, the 10th for country.

Ebola cases have also been reported in the towns of Beni, Butembo, Oicha, Musienene and Mandima, according to Congo's Health Ministry.

A total of 44 cases of hemorrhagic fever have been reported in the region, of which 17 are confirmed and 27 are probable, the ministry said in a statement Thursday. An additional 54 suspected cases are under investigation, the ministry said.

On Tuesday, the World Health Organization confirmed that the latest cases in Congo's North Kivu province are part of the Zaire strain of the virus and that there is no link to a separate outbreak, which occurred in the western Equateur province that has since been declared over.

"It's good news and it's very bad news," WHO Deputy Director-General for Emergency Preparedness and Response Peter Salama told journalists in Geneva, after the new cases were first confirmed.

"The bad news is that this strain of Ebola carries with it the highest case-fatality-rate of any of the strains of Ebola, anywhere above 50% and higher, according to previous outbreaks," he said. "So, it's the most-deadly variant of the Ebola virus strains that we have, that's the bad news. The good news is that we do have -- although it's still an investigational product -- a safe and effective vaccine, that we were able to deploy last time around."

According to WHO, this outbreak, which is in an active conflict zone, will be more complicated to contain than any that came before.

Mercer: Obama Ignores Genocide In South Africa
[Unz Review] Once upon a time there were two politicians.

One had the power to give media and political elites goosebumps. Still does.

The other causes the same dogs to raise their hackles.

The first is Barack Hussein Obama; the second Vladimir Putin.

The same gilded elites who choose our villains and victims for us have decided that the Russian is the worst person in the world. BHO, the media consider one of the greatest men in the world.

Obama leveled Libya and lynched its leader. Our overlords were unconcerned. They knew with certainty that Obama was destroying lives irreparably out of the goodness of his heart.

Same thing when Obama became the uncrowned king of the killer drone, murdering Pakistani, Afghani, Libyan and Yemeni civilians in their thousands. That, too, his acolytes generally justified, minimized or concealed.

In June of 2008, Obama marked his election as "the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on Earth." Media did not mock their leader’s delusions of grandeur.

All the estrogen-oozing amoebas of mainstream media would do in response to the Obama charm offensive was to turn to one another and check, "Was it good for you? Did he make the earth move and the oceans recede for you, too?"

Recently, Obama romped on to the Third World stage "bigly." He delivered an address in this writer’s birthplace of Johannesburg, South Africa. The occasion: the centennial commemoration of Nelson Mandela’s birth.

Air Force releases video of Sgt. John Chapman's final moments-award long overdue
[FoxNews] The U.S. Air Force on Thursday released an aerial video that shows highlights of Tech Sgt. John Chapman’s heroics during hand-to-hand combat on an Afghanistan peak before he was killed by Al Qaeda militants.

Chapman, 36, a native of Windsor Locks, Conn., could be seen on March 4, 2002, charging the enemy on Takur Ghar, a 10,000-foot mountain, Task & Purpose reported. Chapman joined Navy SEALs in an effort to recover a wounded comrade who had fallen from the aircraft after it was hit with a rocket-propelled grenade.

Chapman "charged into enemy fire through harrowing conditions," seized a bunker and killed its occupants, the White House said.

The Air Force said he was struck and temporarily incapacited by enemy fire when he moved from one protective cover to engage the enemy.

Trump to award Medal of Honor to late Air Force sergeant

Trump will posthumously award the honor to John Chapman, an Air Force sergeant credited with saving the lives of service members on a mountain in Afghanistan in 2002; Chapman's sister reacts on 'Fox & Friends.'

Britt K. Slabinski, a retired member of SEAL Team 6, who received the Medal of Honor in May for his heroics during the same 14-hour battle, believed Chapman was dead, and moved the team -- including someone with a serious leg injury -- off the battlefield, the New York Times reported.

Chapman regained consciousness and fought for an hour after being gunned down but managed to kill two more enemies, reports said.

Slabinski, who completed 15 combat tours, told the New York Times in 2016 that he was “95 percent certain” that Chapman was killed and was skeptical of the video's accuracy and analyses. He told officials that Chapman’s actions helped save his team that day.

Slabinski retired from the Navy in 2014 after more than 25 years of service. He said following the ceremony that the medal "belongs to so many others" and named the teammates "who followed me without hesitation." Slabinski said the medal also belongs to seven Americans who died on the mountaintop.

"They gave all for us. This honor is truly theirs. They are the true heroes," he said in a statement delivered on the White House driveway.

But Deborah Lee James, who worked under President Obama as the Air Force secretary, said Slabinski deserves his medal and his contributions shouldn't be underestimated.

“Nobody thinks that he did anything other than his absolute best on the worst day of his life,” James said of Slabinski, according to the Washington Post. “He thought he was dead, and he was responsible for four or five others that he was trying to save.”

President Trump will award the Medal of Honor posthumously to Chapman’s family on Aug. 22 -- 16 years after he died. He will be the first airman to receive the award since the Vietnam War.

James had recommended Chapman for the award, but she said it stalled.

“I believe the SEALs want to honor John Chapman,” James told the paper. “What some don’t want is they don’t want it linked to him getting back up and fighting back on.”

Emails show 2016 links among Steele, Ohr, Simpson ‐ with Russian oligarch (Oleg Deripaska) in background
[Wash Examiner] Emails in 2016 between former British spy Christopher Steele and Justice Department official Bruce Ohr suggest Steele was deeply concerned about the legal status of a Putin-linked Russian oligarch, and at times seemed to be advocating on the oligarch's behalf, in the same time period Steele worked on collecting the Russia-related allegations against Donald Trump that came to be known as the Trump dossier. The emails show Steele and Ohr were in frequent contact, that they intermingled talk about Steele's research and the oligarch's affairs, and that Glenn Simpson, head of the dirt-digging group Fusion GPS that hired Steele to compile the dossier, was also part of the ongoing conversation.
All of which appears to indicate the allegations against Donald Trump are little more than deep state projection.

#1  Mueller may have a conflict — and it leads directly to a Russian oligarch (Oleg Deripaska).... as mentioned in the above article.

In 2009, when Mueller ran the FBI, the bureau asked Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska to spend millions of his own dollars funding an FBI-supervised operation to rescue a retired FBI agent, Robert Levinson, captured in Iran while working for the CIA in 2007.

Yes, that’s the same Deripaska who has surfaced in Mueller’s current investigation and who was recently sanctioned by the Trump administration.

In April 2018, the United States imposed sanctions on him and 23 other Russian nationals.[117][118] In the statement from the United States Department of the Treasury it was stated that Deripaska "has been accused of threatening the lives of business rivals, illegally wiretapping a government official, and taking part in extortion and racketeering". According to the US treasury statement there are allegations that Deripaska ordered the murder of a businessman, and had links to a Russian organized crime group.[119]

GOP chairman readies Steele dossier subpoenas
[The Hill] The Republican chairman of the House Judiciary Committee is readying subpoenas for people connected to the controversial "Steele" dossier, sources tell The Hill.

Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) is preparing subpoenas for Justice Department official Bruce Ohr, his wife Nellie Ohr and Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson, according to two congressional sources familiar with the matter.

The committee will also go after other current and former FBI and DOJ officials including Jim Baker, Sally Moyer, Jonathan Moffa and George Toscas, the sources said.

Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores told The Hill that Goodlatte has been in touch with the DOJ about seeking testimonies from these officials.

A Republican House Judiciary Committee aide confirmed to The Hill they plan to seek such interviews.

Cops Post Mugshots Of Antifa Rioters, Liberals Freak Out
h/t Instapundit
Oops, the left is upset. Some leftists lambasted the Berkeley PD because they outed violent Antifas goons arrested Sunday by posting the mugshots of those arrested, along with their names, and the alleged crimes for which they were arrested. A practice that is not unusual for the Berkeley PD. These leftist are claiming that the cops were looking to arrest only the Antifa gangs during the protests when actually the cops were looking to arrest only the violent protesters.

According to the police number of Antifa counter-protesters arrested is now twenty, "most of them for possession of banned weapons in parks, and on streets and sidewalks. Dozens of weapons were confiscated."

Emails: Steele Kept in Touch with Top DOJ Official while Compiling Dossier
[NR] Emails recently provided to Congress by the Department of Justice (DOJ) reveal that Christopher Steele, the former British spy contracted by opposition-research firm Fusion GPS, was in regular contact with senior DOJ official Bruce Ohr as he compiled his infamous dossier on then-candidate Trump.

The emails, reviewed by the Washington Examiner, largely pertain to Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska, and appear to indicate that Steele was lobbying Ohr, then the fourth-ranking official at the DOJ, to help improve the billionaire aluminum magnate’s visa status.

Deripaska, who was barred from traveling to the U.S. in 2006 due to alleged ties to organized crime, is connected to Vladimir Putin and owns the massive Russian aluminum company Rusal.

"I heard from Adam WALDMAN [a Deripaska lawyer/lobbyist] yesterday that OD is applying for another official US visa ice [sic] APEC business at the end of February," Steele wrote in a Jan. 12, 2016, email to Ohr, referring to Adam Waldman, an American lobbyist Deripaska hired to improve his diplomatic status.

In a subsequent email, Steele informs Ohr that Deripaska received a visa to travel to the U.S. and asks that Ohr "monitor" the situation should any "complications arise."

"As far as I’m concerned, this is good news all round although as before, it would be helpful if you could monitor it and let me know if any complications arise," Steele wrote of Deripaska’s prospective visa on February 8, 2016.

"In some parts of the country, it does seem like the America that we know and love doesn’t exist anymore," the conservative said on her Fox News show "The Ingraham Angle."

"Massive demographic changes have been foisted upon the American people," she continued, "and they’re changes that none of us ever voted for and most of us don’t like. From Virginia to California, we see stark examples of how radically in some ways the country has changed. Now, much of this is related to both illegal and in some cases, legal immigration that, of course, progressives love."

Ms. Ingraham then cited several stories where illegal immigrants committed heinous crimes after slipping through the cracks of the immigration system. She called on President Trump to enforce existing immigration laws, strengthen border security and build the wall.

"This is a national emergency and he must demand that Congress act now," she said. "There is something slipping away in this country and it’s not about race or ethnicity. It’s what was once a common understanding by both parties that American citizenship is a privilege, and one that at a minimum requires respect for the rule of law and loyalty to our Constitution."

Visited the Fayette, County GA. DMV yesterday. Of the nine State DMV employees present for duty, not one male or caucasian. Fayette County, GA was once a strong conservative Republican enclave which boasted one the highest per capita incomes in the State. Yes, things are certainly changing. And no, the gov't targeting of conservative voting districts is not a figment of your imagination.

Hamas tries to hack Israelis with fake rocket warning app
[IsraelTimes] An Israeli cyber security firm warned Thursday that the Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", terror group was trying to hack Israelis through a fake version of the Code Red rocket warning app.

The warning came amid the worst bout of violence between Israel and Hamas since 2014, with the terror group firing some 180 projectiles into Israel.

Hamas was trying to take advantage of this and had put out a counterfeit app that mimicked the real software that warns Israelis of incoming rockets and mortars, said ClearSky Cyber Security.

"When you download the (fake) app it takes control of the mobile phone and allows the operator to track the device, take pictures, record sound and make calls and send messages," said ClearSky CEO Boaz Dolev.

Dolev warned that once the app took control of the phone it was impossible to remove, even if the app was deleted. He urged Israelis to exercise caution and only download apps from recognized stores like Google or Apple.

ClearSky warned that this could be the first stage of a concentrated effort by Hamas to launch cyber attacks against Israel as part of the ongoing round of violence.

However,
there's more than one way to skin a cat...
the firm said that it appeared the malicious app had been discovered at an early stage and had not infected very many phones.

Syrian Troops Shell Idlib to Pave Way for Assault, Monitor Says
[AnNahar] Syrian regime forces shelled rebel and jihadist positions in the northwestern province of Idlib on Thursday, a monitor said, as reinforcements arrived ahead of an expected assault.

The province is the largest piece of territory still in rebel hands, and Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Terror of Aleppo ...
has warned it would be his military's next priority.

On Thursday morning, artillery and rocket fire slammed into territory around Jisr al-Shughur, a key town in the southwestern part of the province, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

"The shelling is in preparation for an assault but there has been no ground advance yet," said Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman.

"Regime reinforcements including equipment, soldiers, vehicles and ammunition have been arriving since Tuesday," he told AFP.

They were being distributed along three regime-held fronts, including in neighbouring Latakia province just west of Jisr al-Shughur, in the Sahl al-Ghab plain that lies south of Idlib, and in a sliver of the province's southeast that is already in government hands.

The al-Watan daily, which is close to the government, also reported on Thursday that army troops had bombed rebel and jihadist positions in the area.

Idlib, which has escaped regime control since 2015, lies along the border with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
but is otherwise nearly completely surrounded by government-held territory.

Around 60 percent of it is now held by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham
(HTS), which is led by al-Qaeda's former Syria affiliate, while the rest is controlled by rival opposition factions.

Syrian troops have recaptured key swathes of the country in recent months with help from ally Russia, which has brokered a string of surrender deals with rebels.

Apparently fearing a similar arrangement for Idlib, HTS has been arresting dozens of figures in the province that have been go-betweens with the regime.

Early Thursday, the group detained several such figures from villages in Idlib's southeast, calling them "chiefs of treason," according to an HTS-linked media agency.

The Britannia-based Observatory, which relies on a network of sources inside Syria, said it had documented more than 100 such arrests by HTS and rival forces this week alone.

Idlib province is home to around 2.5 million people, including rebels and civilians transferred en masse from other territory that fell to Syrian troops after intense assaults.

#1  On Wednesday, Ellis ripped into prosecutors for letting a witness, IRS Agent Michael Welsh, sit in the courtroom before his testimony.

Given that the IRS has not to our knowledge filed charges and / or assessed a tax liability against either Manafort or Rick Gates on the basis of tax fraud, here's a question - why is IRS Agent Welsh a witness in the first place? The only reason I can figure is to create doubt in the jury's mind, as if to say 'the IRS looked at one / both of these guys, so they must be guilty of something.', which is scumbaggery at it's worst.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein's Ties To China Go Way Deeper Than An Alleged Office Spy
BLUF:
[The Federalist] This Is About Much More than a Chinese Spy
Let us review the facts here. China has for almost 40 years cultivated warm relations with Feinstein.

Feinstein has uniformly taken political positions supporting greater ties with China while taking a relatively dovish and strictly apologist line on its human rights atrocities.
Feinstein’s husband has profited handsomely during Feinstein’s career from the greatly expanded China trade she supported. It is of course possible that the Feinstein family’s privileged position with the Chinese regime improved his investment opportunities.

Feinstein has served as a key intermediary between China and the U.S. government, while serving on committees whose work would be of keen interest to the PRC.

A staffer of almost two decades in close proximity to Feinstein was allegedly successfully recruited by China’s MSS and fed China "political intelligence."

Imagine for a second how a motivated and empowered prosecutor would operate in this situation if tasked with exploring "any links and/or coordination" between the Chinese government, Feinstein, and individuals associated with her office.

Few American officials could have been as potentially exposed to the PRC’s skilled intelligence service as Feinstein. Here we have not only proof of a spy, but real evidence of consistently pro-Chinese policy that at very best created the appearance of a financial conflict of interest.

Recall that the Chinese regime conducted the cataclysmic U.S. Office of Personnel Management hack, arming it with the most compromising possible information on 21 million government employees and applicants. Then the PRC liquidated America’s entire informant network on the Chinese mainland. So why isn’t this a major national story drawing hysterical cries of treason and calls for impeachment?

Feinstein’s dealings with the Chinese must be investigated. But so too ought the links between federal officials and all of our adversaries, be it the Chinese and Russians, the Pakistanis and Iranians, or the Muslim Brotherhood and its state supporters. Feinstein is only one politician. How many other relationships with American politicians have the Chinese and our other adversaries fostered? How many spies might they have recruited?

Atlanta school removes Pledge of Allegiance from morning ritual
[Atlanta Journal Constipation] An Atlanta charter school will not recite the Pledge of Allegiance as part of its morning meeting agenda.

Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School on Grant Street announced the change Tuesday in a statement from elementary campus president Lara Zelski.

The decision was made "in an effort to begin our day as a fully inclusive and connected community," Zelski said. "Over the past couple of years it has become increasingly obvious that more and more of our community were choosing to not stand and/or recite the pledge."

Charter school walks back plan to drop morning Pledge of Allegiance
An Atlanta charter school changed course Thursday on a plan for students to recite something other than the Pledge of Allegiance in the morning, an official said.

Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School (ANCS) had announced Tuesday that it would scrap the Pledge of Allegiance from its morning agenda in favor of participating in a group “Wolf Pack Chant.” The move was said to be done in order to make the school more inclusive and the chant, likely named after the school’s wolf mascot, would be created by students and teachers.

“Students will continue to lead the meeting by asking our community to stand to participate in our Wolf Pack Chant together. Students will also be given the opportunity to say the pledge at another point during the school day within their classroom,” the school’s elementary campus president, Lara Zelski, said in a news release that appears to have since been taken down.

But officials later decided to go back to the “original format,” citing “some miscommunication and inconsistency in the rollout” of the new plan.

“In the past, the Pledge of Allegiance was recited during our all-school morning meeting, but at the start of the school year, the daily practice was moved to classrooms,” Lia Santos, the ANCS board chair, said in a statement.

The decision to stray from the morning ritual was carried out in accordance with state law and aligned with other Georgia schools, Santos said.

“However, it appears there was some miscommunication and inconsistency in the rollout,” Santos’ statement continued. “Starting next week, we will return to our original format and provide our students with the opportunity to recite the Pledge during the all-school morning meeting.”

Third strong earthquake shakes Lombok as death toll tops 220
[DAWN] The Indonesian island of Lombok was shaken by a third big earthquake in little more than a week on Thursday as an official said the corpse count from an earlier quake had topped 220.

The strong aftershock, measured at magnitude 5.9 by the US Geological Survey, caused panic and damage. It was centered in the northwest of the island and didn’t have the potential to cause a tsunami, Indonesia’s geological agency said.

Videos showed rubble strewn across streets and clouds of dust enveloping buildings. In northern Lombok, some people leaped from their vehicles on traffic jammed roads while an elderly woman standing in the back of a pickup truck wailed "God is Great". The aftershock had caused more "trauma", said national disaster agency front man Sutopo Purwo Nugroho.

Nyoman Sidekarya, chief of the provincial search and rescue agency that covers Lombok, told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that the corpse count from Sunday’s magnitude 7.0 quake is now 227.

Several agencies have been releasing higher corpse count figures than the 131 announced on Wednesday by the National Disaster Mitigation Agency, which has a coordinating role in disaster relief. The agency says it has not verified these other figures but expects the toll to climb.

Canada asks Germany and Sweden for help in Saudi dispute
[DAWN] Canada is quietly working back channels to prod allies including Germany and Sweden to help resolve its row with Soddy Arabia

The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, a government source confirmed on Thursday.

The bigwig, who asked not to be identified due to the sensitivity of the diplomacy, said Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland spoke with her counterparts in the two European nations.

Germany and Sweden previously were targets of Saudi backlashes for calling out the kingdom for human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
abuses.

Freeland sought to learn how they resolved those disputes, and asked for their support, the official said.

Ottawa also planned to reach out to regional heavyweight the United Arab Emirates and Britannia, which has strong historical ties to Saudi Arabia.

Tensions have been high between Canada and Saudi Arabia since Monday when Riyadh expelled Canada's ambassador, recalled its own envoy and froze all new trade and investments.

The kingdom was angry at Ottawa for openly denouncing a crackdown on rights activists in Saudi Arabia.

Death toll from Greece's deadliest fire rises to 93
[DAWN] The corpse count from Greece's deadliest fire disaster rose to 93 on Thursday after two more people died in hospital.

The latest casualty was a 78-year-old woman, state TV ERT said. An 83-year-old man died on Wednesday.

Another 34 people are still hospitalised after the July 23 wildfire in the coastal resort of Mati, six of them at death's door.

Four bigwigs including the minister responsible for the police and the heads of the police and fire brigade have been removed from their posts.

Earlier Thursday, a list compiled by the civil protection authority said the victims included 44 women ‐ now 45 ‐ 35 men, 11 children and two still-unidentified persons.

The government had insisted that with winds blowing at speeds of up to 120 kilometres an hour, there was little time to mount an effective evacuation.

It later emerged that the police had failed to properly seal off the area because the fire brigade had not alerted them to the location and size of the blaze.

As a result, many drivers were inadvertently diverted into Mati's narrow streets and trapped.

India orders children’s shelters checks after sex abuse cases

Iran decries fatal Saudi air raid on Yemeni student bus, urges pressure on invaders
[PRESSTV] Iran has sharply condemned a Saudi-led Arclight airstrike that killed dozens of Yemeni civilians, mostly children on a school bus, calling on the world community to put pressure on the Riyadh regime and its allies to stop perpetrating more crimes in the impoverished country.

In a statement on Thursday, Foreign Ministry front man, Bahram Qassemi, expressed sympathy with the families of those killed and injured in the latest Saudi airstrike, which hit the bus at a market in Yemen's northwestern province of Sa'ada earlier in the day.

Yemen's al-Masirah television network said those on the bus were a group of young students attending summer classes of the Holy Qur'an.

The Yemeni Health Ministry said at least 50 civilians, mostly children, bit the dust and around 77 others were maimed in the attack, which Qassemi described as a "war crime."

The Saudi-led coalition waging war on Yemen

remained brazenly defiant on its new crime, calling the massacre a "legitimate action." It claimed the airstrikes were aimed at missile launchers used by Yemeni armed forces.

Death Penalty Still Permissible For People Who Drive Slowly In The Left Lane, Pope Francis Clarifies
[Babylon Bee - it's satire] VATICAN CITY‐Following his recent announcement that the Catholic Church no longer supports the use of the death penalty, Pope Francis clarified that it may still be applied to slow left-lane drivers. "It almost goes without saying," the leader of the Church commented.

Whereas prior Church teaching allowed the death penalty in certain cases, the Catechism now teaches that the punishment is always impermissible. "Except," said a Vatican spokesman, "for those reprobate souls who just hang out in the left lane as if nobody else has anywhere to be."

The decision has angered some conservative Catholics, who favor applying the death penalty in wider circumstances. "What about that guy who brings his guitar to a party and totally ruins everyone's good time?" one traditional Catholic asked. "Or those people who insist on making small talk while in line at the grocery store?"

It is unknown whether Pope Francis will also call for the death penalty for people who wake the whole neighborhood up mowing their lawns at 8 a.m. on a Saturday morning, but sources close to the Pontiff state he's leaning toward the affirmative.

Afghanistan
Pakistan to add 60,000 more troops along the Durand Line with Afghanistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Pak military officials have said as many as 60,000 more troops will be added to increase patrols along the Durand Line with Afghanistan.

The officials have said the main purpose of a boost in troops number is to increase patrols along the Line with an aim to curb the flow of faceless myrmidons passing between the two nations.

Citing the informed, Bloomberg has stated in a report that 40 percent of the troops have already been recruited in the exercise, which is expected to take two years.

The officials have also added that about 13 percent of a fence planned along the 1,456-mile-long border has also been completed.

This comes as the former Afghanistan's Caped President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
...Former president of Aghanistan, part of the problem not part of the solution...
had earlier expressed concerns regarding the alleged financial US support to Pakistain for fencing the Durand Line.

The Office of the Former President in a statement said Hamid Karzai is deeply concerned over the US financial assistance to Pakistain for fencing the Durand Line.

The statement further added that the former President strongly condemns the move and call it it a violation of our rights and illusory sovereignty.

He said "The US funding to Pakistain for fencing the Durand line is helping Pakistain’s policy of separating Afghans on both sides of the Durand Line.

Ties emerge between Linda Sarsour and Islamic radical running ‘jihadist’ camp in New Mexico
[BIZPACREVIEW] On Wednesday reports broke that an Islamic radical had been tossed in the clink
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
last week for allegedly abusing children at a compound in New Mexico and allegedly training them to be school shooters.

The media identified the perpetrator as Siraj Ibn Wahhaj and reported that he had been caught "conducting weapons training with assault rifles at the compound near the Colorado border where authorities say they found 11 hungry children living in filthy conditions in a raid Friday."

Authorities found Ibn after they went searching for his missing 3-year-old son. Instead they discovered the Islamic radical at the compound with the maltreated children. Though Ibn’s son wasn’t seen at the compound, authorities did locate the remains of a child that could be him.

What some in the media neglected to mention was that Ibn is the son of Siraj Wahhaj, a controversial Brooklyn imam of the same name who just also happens to be the mentor of left-wing activist, terrorist apologist and "anti-American mouthpiece" Linda Sarsour.

While speaking at an Islamic Society of North America convention last year, the feminist icon called for Moslems to wage a "jihad" against President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
and issued a shout-out to Wahhaj, whom she described as a "mentor, motivator and encourager" of hers."

Former Canadian official: Misjudging the moment is our new trend
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] "Canada appears to have misjudged the moment. And we should face it, it’s becoming a bit of a trend," wrote Andew MacDougall, Canadian columnist and commentator on Tuesday, in reference to the latest Canadian interference in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
’s internal affairs.

The former Canadian official was commenting in an op-ed published in the Macleans magazine about the spat between Saudi Arabia and his country.

He wrote: "The swings and misses abroad have been coming at regular intervals for Justin Trudeau and his government over the past nine months."

He listed many "failures in Canada foreign deals" such as APEC summit with the Japanese, trade with China, Prime’s trip to India, the G7 summit, NAFTA, and now the diplomatic crisis with Saudi Arabia, MacDougall argued that Trudeau must pick moments to make points, which should happen specially in the case of "unpopular" ideas.

He added, "if politics is the art of the possible, then surely diplomacy is too. Progressive ideals might be smart, just and worthy, but if no one is buying, then what is there to sell? This isn’t an argument to park Canada’s values. But every country’s foreign policy is a fudge; you have to pick your moments to make your point, especially when your ideas are the ones that are unpopular."

"Indeed, it may not feel this way from inside Canada, but the reality is that Canada’s values are the ones under attack on the global stage; countries like Italia and Austria have elected politicians who have espoused, in some ways, Trump-like ideas that threaten the liberal global order. And notably, Canada’s rebuke does not seem to have been endorsed by other governments around the world so far. The need to defend our ideals’ shores is more piqued than the need to evangelize," he said.

Iraq
Baghdad’s heating oil delivery to Kurdistan Region meets just 5% of demand
[Rudaw] ERBIL, Kurdistan Region ‐ Baghdad has pledged to send a supply of heating oil to help see the Kurdistan Region through the cold winter months. However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
officials in Erbil say the promised delivery will meet just five percent of the Region’s demand.

Nawzad Hadi, governor of Erbil province, met with Motasam Hassan, Iraq’s deputy oil minister, on Thursday. According to a statement from Hadi’s office, they discussed federal government supplements of gasoline and heating oil for the Region’s provinces.

Based on an earlier agreement between Erbil and Baghdad, the Iraqi government was committed to allocate five million liters of heating oil to Erbil province, five million to Sulaimani, three million to Duhok, and two million to Halabja over the winter period 2018/19.

"This amount is a small portion of the Region’s annual demands for heating oil supplies," the statement reads.

"If one barrel is supplied for each family in the Kurdistan Region by Baghdad, then it should supply 100 million liters for Erbil, 110 million liters for Sulaimani, 80 million to Duhok and 50 to Halabja," it adds.

However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
Hassan stressed the federal government is only able to give the Kurdistan Region provinces the same share of subsidies it gives to other Iraqi provinces.

Citizens of the Kurdistan Region provinces have not received the annual oil subsidy since 2014, when Erbil-Baghdad relations collapsed in a dispute over foreign oil sales. Then-prime minister Nouri al-Maliki suspended the KRG’s share of the federal budget. The crisis was compounded by the costly war with ISIS and the financial crash of 2016.

Due to low winter temperatures, Kurdistan Region officials first distribute oil to the mountainous areas bordering Iran. However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
some of the more isolated areas have not received oil deliveries for nearly two years.

The meeting between Hadi and Hassan comes a day after Haval Abu Bakir, governor of Sulaimani, told Rudaw the Iraqi government had agreed to send heating oil for all Kurdistan Region provinces "at our request".

"Starting from Thursday, five tanker trucks of heating oil will be sent to Sulaimani on daily basis, five to Erbil, three to Duhok, and two to Halabja province. This will continue until sufficient oil is provided to people," Abubakir told Rudaw.

Baghdad and Erbil have worked to improve relations following the events of October 16, when Iraqi forces and Hashd al-Shaabi paramilitias took over the disputed territories. The Kurdistan Region has been allocated a 12.67 percent share of the federal budget ‐ short of the desired 17 percent ‐ but better than nothing.

...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
, an Afghan affiliate of the IS, which has gained a reputation for brutality, is not part of any reconciliation push, US officials said.

Last week, an Afghan governor’s office floated the possibility of amnesty for a group of IS fighters, including two senior commanders, who gave themselves up after being driven from their strongholds by Taliban.

Gen Joseph Votel, head of the US military’s Central Command, said the Afghans acknowledged the surrender, the largest of its kind so far by the hard boy Islamic State group, "could have been handled better".

"The government of Afghanistan has assured us that these IS-K fighters will be treated as war prisoners," Gen Votel said, using an acronym for the Afghan affiliate of the group.

He added that the fighters would be investigated and held to account for any war crimes they committed.

Civilians who fled the last festivities have accused IS fighters of atrocities, giving detailed accounts of women and girls being taken from their families, raped and, in some cases, murdered.

"They have essentially waged a pretty vicious campaign against the people without regard to civilian casualties," the Central Command chief said.

Arab Coalition: Many Houthi leaders killed in air raid on Yemen’s Saada
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A senior source in the Arab coalition backing the legitimate Yemeni National Army confirmed that a number of Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
leaders were killed in the air raid launched on Thursday morning on Saada.

The source said that the air raid killed Houthi leader Ali Salah al-Fayee, who is responsible for recruiting and training young children who are sent later on to the battlefields, in addition to the killing of Muhammed Abdullah Sittin, one of the most prominent trainers on weapons.

He added that many others were maimed in the air raid, including sniper trainer, who goes by the nickname Abu al-Ezz al-Marani.

SAADA OPERATION IS A LEGITIMATE MILITARY ACTION
Earlier in the day, the official front man of the Arab Coalition in Yemen, Colonel Turki al-Malki, announced that the coalition launched an operation in Saada against Houthi elements who fired a ballistic missile on Jizan in Soddy Arabia

on Wednesday evening.

The front man of the coalition said that "the targeting that took place today in the governorate of Saada, is a legitimate military action to target elements that planned and carried out attacks targeting civilians yesterday evening in Jizan that killed and maimed civilians."

He added that this operation was "implemented in accordance with international humanitarian law and customary rules."

He added that the coalition targeted the Houthi militia members who were inside the bus, pointing out that they are the planners and operators of the missiles launch pads, warning that these elements hide among civilians.

Colonel al-Malki said the coalition will take all necessary actions against the criminal, terrorist acts of pro-Iranian Houthi militias, such as the recruitment and placement of children on battle fronts and "using them as tools to cover for their terrorist acts."

He stressed that the Houthi leaders and terrorist elements responsible for firing ballistic missiles and targeting civilians will be targeted as part of the coalition efforts to prevent terrorist elements from harming regional and international security.

Colonel al-Malki further said that one Yemeni resident was killed due to the shrapnel from the went kaboom! missile while 11 others were slightly injured.

Australia strips citizenship from 5 Islamic State supporters
[Rudaw] Five former dual nationals have been stripped of their Australian citizenship due to their involvement with the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group overseas, a government minister said Thursday.

A total of six people have now lost their Australian citizenship since the law was changed in 2015 to enable dual nationals to lose their citizenship rights for actions contrary to their allegiance to Australia, Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton said.

"I can confirm that five more individuals have ceased to be Australian citizens because of their involvement with Islamic State offshore," Dutton said in a statement.

Dutton did not identify the five. The Daily Telegraph newspaper in Sydney said they were three men and two women who had flown to Syria and Iraq to join Islamic State group fighters.

It is not clear when they traveled to the Middle East and when they lost their citizenship.

Australia Broadcasting Corp. said they were aged in their 20s and 30s and might not be aware that they were no longer Australian. Intelligence agencies began investigating them last year, the ABC said.

"We’ve arrived at a position now where it’s clear through their own conduct these people have renounced their Australian citizenship. They don’t deserve to be Australian citizens and in our judgment they would pose a great threat if they were to return to Australia," Dutton told ABC.

The first person to lose Australian citizenship under the law was Sydney-born convicted terrorist Khaled Sharrouf. Sharrouf, 36, slipped out of Australia in 2013 on his brother’s passport because his own had been canceled because of his conviction for his part in a thwarted terrorist attack plot. He was left with Lebanese citizenship after his Australian citizenship was canceled in January last year.

Sharrouf horrified the world in 2014 when he posted on social media a photograph of his young son clutching the severed head of a Syrian soldier.

Then-US Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, unsuccessful presidential candidate, and utterly failed Secretary of State...
described that image as "one of the most disturbing, stomach-turning, grotesque photographs ever displayed."

Under section 35 of the Australian Citizenship Act, a dual national’s Australian citizenship automatically ceases if they act contrary to their allegiance to Australia by engaging in terrorism-related conduct.

This includes those who fight for or who are in the service of a declared terrorist organization overseas. The Islamic State group was declared a terrorist organization for these purposes since May 2016.

"It is opposed to Australia, its people and its democratic rights and privileges," Dutton said in a statement.

"The government is determined to deal with foreign terrorist fighters as far from our shores as possible," he added.

Talks urgently needed to avoid Idlib ‘bloodbath’, says UN
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Negotiations are urgently needed to avert "a civilian bloodbath" in Syria’s last major rebel bastion Idlib, the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
said on Thursday, after regime forces shelled the area ahead of an expected assault.

"The war cannot be allowed to go to Idlib," the head of the United Nations humanitarian taskforce for Syria, Jan Egeland, told news hounds in Geneva.

Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Light of the Alawites...
has warned that the northwestern province would be his military’s next priority. Artillery and rocket fire reportedly slammed into rebel and gunnies positions in the area earlier on Thursday.

Egeland said he remained "hopeful" that diplomatic efforts underway could stave off a major ground offensive that would force hundreds of thousands to flee.

"It is bad now," in Idlib, Egeland said. "It could be 100 times worse."

Idlib is home to about 2.5 million people, up to half of whom are rebels and civilians transferred en masse from other territory that fell to Syrian troops after intense assaults.

A major military operation in Idlib would pose a particular humanitarian nightmare because there is no opposition territory left in Syria where people could be evacuated to, Egeland said.

"I cannot see evacuations to other opposition-controlled areas," he said, explaining that contingency plans were being formed to deal with a range of scenarios.

At Thursday’s humanitarian taskforce meeting, ambassadors discussed options to ramp up assistance in the event of additional massive displacement, Egeland said, noting that "it is very hard to take on more mouths to feed and there is no (additional) shelter available" in the area.

Ensuring that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
keeps its border open for those who might flee an assault by Damascus would be a priority, he added.

"The scenario that we really need to avoid at any cost is the big war coming to civilian areas (in Idlib)," the UN official said.

He added that he was "heartened" to hear diplomats from Assad allies Russia and Iran as well as opposition backer Turkey say they were committed to avoiding a large-scale offensive.

Egeland said the string of rebel surrender deals brokered elsewhere during the Syrian conflict could be applied in Idlib to save civilian lives.

Around 60 percent of the area is now held by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham
(HTS), which is led by al-Qaeda’s former Syria affiliate, while the rest is controlled by rival opposition factions.

Nova Scotia could lose doctors amid Saudi-Canada diplomatic row
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Nova Scotia, the second smallest Canadian province, could be losing many doctors because of the diplomatic crisis between Canada and Soddy Arabia

Fifty-nine medical students from Saudi Arabia are doing their residency in Dalhousie University in the small province.

The Saudi government fully funds these students’ residencies with scholarships administered through the Saudi Arabian Cultural Bureau.

A Saudi student in Nova Scotia said that he received a letter from the Saudi government asking for his return to the Kingdom before August 31.

Doctors Nova Scotia, the professional association representing all physicians in the province, said while "this news is unfortunate," there doesn’t seem to be a direct impact on Nova Scotia’s ability to recruit and retain physicians.

"While the Saudi residents are here doing their training/fellowships, they do provide clinical care, but for the most part, they all leave as soon as they complete their training to practice medicine elsewhere," Doctors Nova Scotia said in a statement.
They’ll lose the excess fees collected from non-citizen students, though.

Turkish lira tumbles as Turkey-US rift continues
When America gets a cold... or just sneezes once because of the dust in the air. Sultan Erdogan I “the much beloved” would be considering how to turn this around if he were clever instead of ambitious. But he’s not, so the gods of the copybook headings will have their way.
[PRESSTV] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's lira tumbled to another record low against the dollar on Thursday after a Ottoman Turkish delegation returned from meeting US officials in Washington with no apparent solution to a diplomatic rift that has opened up between them.

The two governments are at odds over the detention in Turkey of US evangelical pastor Andrew Brunson on terrorism charges, and the rift has deepened investor concerns about Turkey's future under President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
The lira stood at 5.4650 against the dollar at 1356 GMT, down more than 3 percent from the previous day's close and after sliding to an all-time low of 5.48.

The delegation of Ottoman Turkish officials arrived back in Turkey on Thursday, a source from the foreign ministry said, a day after it met with officials from the US State Department and Treasury to try to resolve disputes between the NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
allies.

There was no immediate comment from Ankara on whether the meetings were successful.

The lira has lost nearly a third of its value this year, mainly fuelled by worries about Erdogan's influence over monetary policy.

"You have some very odd politics with the President interfering with monetary policy - they are picking fights with Europe, they are picking fights with the Americans," said Paul McNamara, an investment director at GAM London Limited.

Turkey's currency drops 9% as Erdogan calls for citizens to convert dollars 'beneath your pillows' to lira

#1  The Turkish lira added to its steep losses on Friday after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan asked citizens to convert their dollars and other foreign currencies as well as gold holdings to local lira.

"Change the euros, the dollars and the gold that you are keeping beneath your pillows into lira at our banks. This is a domestic and national struggle," Erdogan said, according to an Associated Press translation.

The lira traded down 9 percent against the U.S. dollar at 6.04 following Erdogan's remarks and briefly fell more than 12 percent. The currency had already declined sharply against the greenback before Erdogan's latest comments.

Erdogan said Turkey was facing an "economic war" and noted the country would respond to those countries who had started it.

That damn cat Gulen! Of course you'd want to go out and convert your stable gold and dollars to a plunging lira, amiright?

#2  Erdogan said Turkey was facing an "economic war" and noted the country would respond to those countries who had started it.

The sharp drop in Turkish assets came after a delegation returned from Washington with no apparent progress on the detention of U.S. pastor Andrew Brunson, who is charged with supporting a group blamed for an attempted coup in 2016.

President Thomas Jefferson sent the Marines to the shores of Tripoli in 1805 to get back our citizens held by the Barbary pirates. President Obama destroyed Libya and enabled the murder of Muammar Kaddafy in 2011, actions from which the country may take a generation or more to recover. President Sultan Erdogan I “the much beloved” would be grateful that President Trump is merely announcing steep tariffs on two of Turkey’s exports, if he were wise — he could have pulled an Obama in the face of Turkey’s insolence -- but Mr. Erdogan still has visions of a restored Ottoman caliphate.

Karachi police chief sent packing after officials found involved in witnesses’ harassment
[DAWN] Inspector General of Police, Sindh, Amjad Javed Saleemi on Wednesday removed Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
police chief Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar and posted Additional IG Dr Amir Ahmed Sheikh in his place.

The decision came amid reports that powerful quarters were unhappy over the role of Karachi police in an FIA-mandated money laundering case against Pakistain Peoples Party co-chairman Asif Ali Ten Percent Zardari
... husband of the late Benazir Bhutto
... 11th Prime Minister of Pakistain in two non-consecutive terms from 1988 until 1990 and 1993 until 1996. She was the daughter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, founder of the Pakistain People's Party, who was murdered at the instigation of General Ayub Khan. She was murdered in her turn by person or persons unknown while campaigning in late 2007. Suspects include, to note just a few, Baitullah Mehsud, General Pervez Musharraf, the ISI, al-Qaeda in Pakistain, and her husband, Asif Ali Zardari, who shows remarkably little curiosity about who done her in...

, his sister Faryal Talpur and many others.

New Karachi police chief Dr. Amir Ahmed Sheikh.
Besides some junior police officials, another senior officer, SSP East Mohammad Nauman Siddiqui, was also transferred by the IGP.

While officials remained tight-lipped over the development, sources at the Central Police Office (CPO) said that the action was taken in the light of the findings of a probe carried out on the directives of the Supreme Court.

On Aug 6, a three-judge SC bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had taken up a suo motu

case regarding fake accounts involving Rs35bn alleged money laundering. During the hearing, the FIA director general alleged that the Sindh police were harassing witnesses. The apex court ordered IG Saleemi to look into the matter and furnish a report.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Report: Ceasefire reached between Israel and Hamas
[Ynet] Truce mediated by Egypt goes into effect at 10:45pm on Thursday evening, after 24 hours of hostilities, with nearly 200 rockets fired from Gazoo at Israel and the IAF attacking over 150 targets in the strip; Gazoo source confirms ceasefire, Israeli sources deny it.

Israel and Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, have reportedly reached a ceasefire under Egyptian mediation, which went into effect at 10:45pm Thursday, according Al Jazeera.

A source in Gazoo confirmed the ceasefire to Ynet, while two Israeli officials denied a truce had been reached, in line with Israel's policy of ambiguity.

JPOST UPDATE: Report: Two killed, 307 wounded in clashes along Gaza border
Two Palestinians were killed as thousands of Gazans gathered along the Gaza border fence on Friday as violent protests continued along the border fence with Israel after over 200 rockets and mortars were launched from the Hamas run enclave.

According to Palestinian reports a paramedic was shot and killed in the chest while providing medical attention to injured rioters east of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip and another 307 demonstrators were wounded, including one man in critical condition after being shot in the head near Khan Younis.

A journalist was also said to have been wounded by Israeli fire.

Rename America
[SultanKinish] Austin's Equity Office has recommended renaming the Texas city because of Stephen F. Austin's alleged views on slavery. But why stop at just renaming Austin when Amerigo Vespucci took and sold slaves.

Austin, Texas is named after Stephen F. Austin, but America is named after Amerigo Vespucci.

New York City has been on its own anti-history binge, demoting the statue of the ‘Father of Gynecology' and tearing out plaques memorializing Robert E. Lee attached to a tree that he had once planted, but it's got bigger problems. The city is named after King James II whose Royal African Company branded thousands of slaves with DY for the Duke of York.

... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
, filed the petition with the Adana Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office last week, media reported on Wednesday.

They asked in their petition for the arrest of "the commanders of the US Air Force who are the superiors of the soldiers based at Incirlik" ‐ identified with their full names in the 60-page criminal complaint ‐ for their alleged attempts to "destroy the constitutional order, prevent partially or fully the Ottoman Turkish government from exercising its authority and endangering the illusory sovereignty of Ottoman Turkish state."

The group also called on Ankara to halt the US military flights from the base and execute a search warrant at the facility to look for potential additional evidence.

The Ottoman Turkish government has not acted on any of the allegations.

The US Air Force said it was aware of the legal petition but referred all questions to the Ottoman Turkish government for comment.

"We continue to carry out our mission here at Incirlik Air Base, and we are proud of the relationship we have with our Ottoman Turkish military partners," said Air Force Capt. Amanda Herman, spokeswoman for the base, on Wednesday.

'High-profile Afghan-trained suspect' allegedly involved in Diamer school attacks: police report
[DAWN] Police in Gilgit-Baltistan on Thursday said that a 'militant commander' suspected of involvement in the Diamer school attacks, who was killed during a search operation earlier this week, was a "high-profile Afghan-trained suspect".

Diamer Superintendent Police (SP) Rai Ajmal in a report submitted to the Diamer deputy inspector general (DIG) of police said that the suspect, Commander Shafiur Rehman, was killed in an exchange of fire with police.

"On noticing the police raiding team, the accused opened indiscriminatory firing that resulted in the martyrdom of Constable Arif Hussain, while Head Constable Karamat Ali sustained bullet injuries," the report said.

In response to the incident, police cordoned off the entire area and started a search operation, the SP said.

Three suspects identified as Fidaur Rehman, Faizur Rehman and Saeedur Rehman allegedly involved in the attack were tossed in the calaboose
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
, whereas Commander Shafi was killed during an exchange of fire, according to the SP's report.

A criminal case was registered against Shaifur Rehman, Saeedur Rehman, Fidaur Rehman, Ziaur Rehman, Basil, Nasirullah, Sher Khan and Muhammad Nasir, the report said, adding that efforts are underway for the arrests of the remaining five suspects.

The report also said that "unknown terrorists" had shot up the Darel cop shoppe at 2am on Saturday night, to which "police effectively retaliated... in a courageous manner".

A case was registered against this incident, as well as against the blocking of a road and firing at passersby by miscreants in Darel's Phuguch area

"At present, operations/targeted raids are being conducted in Darel and Tanger subdivisions of the district and it will be further investigated in coordination with other LEAs," the SP said.

Britain
Rochdale grooming gang members to be stripped of UK citizenship, face deportation to Pakistan

Glory hallelujah, common sense rediscovered in Old Blighty!
[DAWN] Three men convicted of grooming girls for sex in a case that fuelled racial tensions in Britannia face deportation to Pakistain after an appeals court upheld a government decision to strip them of British citizenship, The Guardian reported on Wednesday.
I'd say the Land of Nelson & Wellington is better off without them.
The ruling by the Court of Appeal clears the way for the men, all of Pak nationality, to be removed from Britannia and be possibly deported to Pakistain. They had acquired British citizenship by naturalisation.
So's the land of Guido Fawkes.
Abdul Aziz, Adil Khan and Qari Abdul Rauf were among nine men of Pak and Afghan descent convicted of luring girls as young as 13 into sexual encounters using alcohol and drugs. They were based in Rochdale, in northern England.
What'd they used to call them? Ah, yes, procurers, panderers, and pimps. But if you're devout enough to bonk your head on the floor four or five times a day it's okay.
The three men were enjugged
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
in May 2012 but were later released on licence.
That means they made bail?
The gang's ringleader, Shabir Ahmed, was sentenced to 22 years in jail and remains in jug.

Aziz, Khan and Rauf were convicted on conspiracy and trafficking for sexual exploitation charges. Aziz was not convicted of having sexual intercourse with any child.

The case centres on a decision by Prime Minister Theresa May, when she was home secretary, to strip the men’s citizenship "for the public good".
I can't think of many public betters.
The men had challenged the government decision at two immigration tribunals, arguing revoking their citizenship would violate their human right to a family life, as they have children living in the UK. Their appeals were dismissed.
Because other people have kids living in the UK too?
The convicts then approached the Court of Appeal, senior judges of which ruled on Wednesday that the previous tribunals had made a "proper and lawful assessment" of the likelihood of deportation.
"Send them back to Pakistain, where they're okay with such things."
A person can be deprived of British citizenship for the public good on the grounds of "involvement in terrorism, espionage, serious organised crime, war crimes or unacceptable behaviours".
I'd call pimping underage girls (or even girls of age) both serious organized crime and unacceptable behavior.
After serving their sentences, the three convicts will have a further legal right to appeal their deportation and the process could take months, according to the BBC.
Naturally.
It quoted a Home Office spokeswoman as saying: "This was an appalling case. We welcome the court's finding and will now consider next steps."
The Pope sez you can't give them what they deserve. Branding them on the face and a steerage ticket to Karachi's probably the best you could do. But maybe make a stop in Yemen on the way?
The five victims of the gang who gave evidence in the 2012 trial were all white, and spoke of being raped, assaulted and traded for sex, being passed from man to man, and sometimes being too drunk to stop the abuses.

The men, ranging in age from 22 to 59, used various defences, including claiming the girls were hookers.
But how do thirteen year old girls become hookers?

One third of Britons view Johnson’s burqa comments as racist: Poll
[PRESSTV] A new poll shows that more than a third of people in Britain view comments by former foreign minister Boris Johnson on burqa, a full-body dress for Muslim women, as racist.
The other two thirds think it's pretty witty.
According to the results of the survey by Sky News, six out of ten people said it was "not" racist to compare Muslim women wearing the Islamic veils to “bank robbers” and “letter boxes ” as Johnson had designated, while just 33 percent of the respondents thought it was racist.
That'd be the Moslem part of the respondents?
The poll also suggested that 26 percent of Britons were against a ban on burqas, while around 60 percent supported such a ban by the government.
Having grown up there, 60 percent of the respondents know what Brits look like. They might have teeth like Austin Powers, but they don't look like letter boxes.
The poll was conducted after Johnson made the comparisons in an article for The Daily Telegraph newspaper on Monday. It revealed that Britons remain split as to whether Johnson should apologize for his remarks - 45 percent think he should do so, while the majority, some 48 percent, think he should not.
We can make jokes about Brits. They're white oppressors. Only the ones who've been absorbed by an invasive species culture look like letter boxes, and only the females of them.

Police officials escape from City Courts in malkhana case
[DAWN] Three police officials beat feet from the premises of City Courts after a sessions court recalled their pre-arrest bail in a case pertaining to an incident of fire in malkhana (warehouse).

Abdul Sattar Gopang, Mohammad Shakeel and Turab Ali ‐ the then in-charge of districts Central, South and East sections of malkhana respectively ‐ have been booked for their alleged negligence since hundreds of case properties of the three judicial districts kept in the malkhana were destroyed during a fire on the night of April 11.

On Aug 3, the court had granted them interim bail against a surety bond of Rs50,000 each and asked them to join the investigation.

After hearing arguments from both sides and examining the record of the case and police file, the additional district and sessions judge (South) Rajesh Chander Rajput dismissed the bail pleas and observed that admittedly all the three applicants/suspects being coppers were serving as in-charge of malkhana at City Courts, which stored valuable articles being case properties of three judicial districts and relevant records.

He further observed that the complainant is also a police officer, who had nominated the applicants/suspects in the FIR with the allegation that they had deliberately set the malkhana on fire to extend undue favour to the accused involved in the cases, hence prima facie the case against the applicants/suspects was made out.

Malaysian ex-PM Najib charged with money laundering
[DAWN] Malaysia’s former prime minister Najib Razak was hit with new charges on Wednesday linked to a multi-billion-dollar financial scandal that contributed to his shock election defeat in May.

Appearing at a court in Kuala Lumpur, Najib was charged with three counts of money-laundering over claims he pocketed 42 million ringgit ($10.3 million) from a former unit of scandal-hit sovereign wealth fund 1MDB.

These are in addition to the charges he faced last month after he was first tossed in the slammer
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
