Run, Hillary, Run
h/t Instapundit
Can you feel the excitement? Hillary Clinton is in The Atlantic, telling us how democracy is in crisis. She is on CNN, telling Christiane Amanpour that only when Democrats win back both the House and the Senate, "that’s when civility can start again." She’s on tour: Together with her husband, she plans to embark on a post-midterm 13-city romp during which they’ll bedazzle audience members with "one-of-a-kind conversations [about] some of the most impactful moments in modern history."

Does she have to spell it out for you, America? Hillary Clinton wants you to beg her to run for president in 2020. On behalf of America, I am answering. Hillary Rodham Clinton, I beg you: Please run again.

Hillary Clinton is precisely the candidate the Democratic party needs. And the Democratic party she represents is exactly the one the country needs: foolhardy, inept, dismissive of reality, blind to appearances, deaf to lessons, alien to the heartland, and contemptuous of the voters. The longer Hillary Clinton remains the Democrats’ idea of a standard-bearer, the better off the country will be. She should run in 2020. And in 2024. And forever.

Easing frayed ties, Turkish court allows US pastor to go free
[IsraelTimes] Andrew Brunson on his way home after court convicts him, and sentences him to time served; Trump hails release.

A Ottoman Turkish court on Friday convicted an American pastor of terror charges but released him from house arrest and allowed him to leave The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
, a move that’s likely to ease the tensions between Turkey and the United States.

The court near the western city of Izmir sentenced Andrew Brunson to 3 years, 1 month and 15 days in prison for the conviction, but since the evangelical pastor has already spent two years in detention he won’t serve more time.

The charge of espionage against him was dropped.

Earlier, the court called two witnesses following tips from witness Levent Kalkan, who at the previous hearing had accused Brunson of aiding terror groups. The new witnesses did not confirm Kalkan’s accusations. Another witness for the prosecution said she did not know Brunson.

Brunson again denied accusations that his church aided Kurdish turbans, saying he had handed over a list of Syrian refugees whom the congregation had helped and adding that Ottoman Turkish authorities would have identified any terrorists.

"We helped everyone, Kurds, Arabs, without showing any discrimination," he said.

The pastor, who is originally from Black Mountain, North Carolina, was imprisoned for nearly two years ‐ detained in October 2016 and formally enjugged
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
in December that year ‐ before being sent to his room on July 25 for health reasons.

The court’s decision at the time failed to improve tensions between the two NATO

allies. Washington slapped sanctions on two Ottoman Turkish officials and doubled tariff on Ottoman Turkish steel and aluminum imports. Those moves in August, coupled with concerns over the government’s economic management, helped trigger a Ottoman Turkish currency crisis.

So now Brett Kavanaugh has been confirmed to the Supreme Court, duly sworn in ‐ after weeks of sturm, drang and drama such as a reasonable person can hardly credit, of unproven accusations of every kind of sexual misconduct on the part of Justice Kavanaugh by hysterical and/or malicious people. Seriously, have the Move On, MeToo, Pussy-Hat crowd gone so far off the rails as to believe that the presumption of innocence standard must be utterly disregarded, and the commandment against bearing false witness be revoked entirely? Apparently ‐ and never mind that this single-minded attitude towards accusation and punishment leads straight back to the era of strange fruit hanging from the poplar tree, blood on the leaves and blood at the root. Only not black bodies swinging in the southern breeze, but the actual or metaphorical bodies of husbands, friends, sons and brothers. Requiring proof of an accusation against any male appears to be an utterly outré notion to the vicious brigade of professional 21st century feminists ‐ and the fact that ordinary women of every color and inclination are not merrily following the tumbrils as our uteri are supposed to direct us, appears to be cause for volcanic outrage among the vicious brigade.

Well, life is full of these little tragedies, kids. Better luck next time. Go louder, more obnoxious, and double down on the personal threats ‐ that will so convince us and win overwhelming support to your side!
Maybe even on a rope.
...The other party, or parties which may very well lose as substantially over time as the establishment media may very well be millennial-aged and slightly older women in the workplace. It can’t have gone unnoticed that for thirty and more years, that quiet wisdom in the workplace was never to be alone with a female subordinate (or superior!) lest wagging tongues create a scandal ... or a malicious/resentful woman have cause to later complain of sexual harassment. The usual suspects sniggered at Billy Graham and Mike Pence as paranoid old prudes when they made it an absolute rule never to be alone with another woman not their wife, but in the wake of #metoo, no one is laughing. What is even more frightening than a perhaps mildly credible accusation of sexual misconduct is the one made up of whole cloth. I can easily foresee a whole lot of woman going into a workplace ‐ and having nothing but a distant and impersonal relationship with the men in it. While I am all for professional respect and courtesy in the workplace ‐ not having any kind of mentoring, or social relationship, even just plain old friendship ‐ would get very draining after a time. Chalk that up to another thing which the screaming professional feminists have ruined.

Sarah Hoyt: Knowing Them By Their Fruits
Yesterday in the comments, there was a discussion about the bitter fruits of #metoo.

And it made me wonder exactly what else was supposed to happen.

Sure, in many industries women are treated shamefully. This is usually the kind of industry ‐ like writing used to be, like literature still is, like academia, I’m sure, also is ‐ that is afflicted by oligopsony. I.e. there is only one buyer (the gate keeper) but far more suppliers than could possibly be bought. In such a market it quickly becomes known that the reason you’re being bought or rejected is not just the quality of your work.

#2  The end state of feminism has become the death knell of traditional heterosexual interactions on so many levels. I would never go to evening mixers now without my spouse under any circumstances, and one-on-one meetings of any kind are taboo. In my career I genuinely mentors a number of females without the hint of sexual interest, despite several being easy on the eyes. But today, verboten! In the long run, this will create stovepipes of gender-linked management within the public and private sector. Utterly tragic for meritocracy management.

Yes, Virginia, Democrats ARE a mob
h/t Instapundit
[VictoryGirls] Oh no, those groups of screaming, shoving, surrounding, doxxing, kicking, pounding Democrats are not a mob! Who are you going to believe, the media or your lyin’ eyes?

From Maxine Waters to Hillary and Eric Holder, Democrats are encouraging their followers to engage in intimidation and harassment.

They are so used to the Stupid Party’s leaders backing down in the face of any challenge to comity they still don’t get why Donald Trump was elected President.

They certainly haven’t learned the lesson of how and why their nose was bloodied by Kavanaugh’s confirmation. How could such false charges not have met the mark?

And to have loyalists who chase Republicans out of movie theaters and restaurants labeled a mob? Say it’s not true!

I would add, they aren’t just "a mob." The Democrats are barbarians.

Saddle up, cowboys ... this rodeo is just starting.

Swedish friendship ship docks in Herzliya
About two months after the Israeli navy stopped a Swedish flag bearing ship trying to "break the siege" on Gaza in the framework of one of the protest flotillas, on Thursday evening, a friendlier ship, also from Sweden, arrived on Israeli shores.

Accompanied by dozens of small vessels, carrying Israelis providing encouragement, decorated with Israeli and Swedish flags and playing Israeli tunes such as "Hatikvah" and "Hava Nagila," the yacht "Elida" arrived at the coast of Herzliya with about 50 Israel supporting Swedes.

Ebola cases spike as nervous communities stop cooperating with health care workers
[The Hill] An outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus is on the rise in a regional trading hub in Congo as terrified residents, including those who have been infected, avoid health care workers.

Public health officials have watched with mounting concern in the last week as the number of cases of Ebola in the heavily populated North Kivu and Ituri Provinces have grown, more than two months after the outbreak was identified.

The Congolese Health Ministry said Wednesday that 194 cases of hemorrhagic fever have been reported in the two provinces in eastern Congo, along the border with Uganda.

That's an increase of 32 cases in just a single week, a startling number for a virus that usually dies down soon after public health officials begin treating the outbreak.

One hundred twenty-two people have died so far. Another 53 people have been discharged from Ebola treatment centers after having survived the disease.

Europe
Germany protects car industry as EU goes for JUST 15% cut in co2 car emissions by 2025 - 35% by 2030.
[TransportEnvironment.org] One day after the world’s leading climate scientists urged global leaders to drastically cut emissions to avoid catastrophic climate change, EU governments agreed to reduce carbon emissions from new cars by just 35% in 2030, compared to 2021 levels. Although slightly better than the Commission’s proposal, European NGO federation Transport & Environment (T&E) says this position falls well short of what is needed to meet the EU’s 2030 climate law and avoid dangerous climate change as highlighted in yesterday’s IPCC’s report.
VW is so strongly tied to German car manufacturing it's dangerous. Germany should be pushing for EVs but VW underestimated EVs and was the last one with EV development.
Seventeen countries representing over half of Europe’s population originally called for a 2030 CO2 reduction target of at least 40%. Germany and the Visegrad countries fiercely lobbied for no more than a 30% cut proposed by the European Commission; aided behind the scenes by Commissioner Cañete. Denmark, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Sweden stated their disappointment with the position agreed and said they would call for higher ambition in negotiations with Parliament.
Typical Europeans. They have nothing but hate for America for its perceived protectionism, but when it comes time to harm their own industries in the service of the global ideals they speak so highly of, it's crickets.

Hypocritical assholes.

India-Pakistan
What lies beneath India’s ‘sudden’ cancellation of talks with Pakistan?
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] New Delhi’s sudden cancellation of a scheduled meeting between the Foreign Ministers of India and Pakistain on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York is still an unsolved mystery intriguing diplomats and analysts alike.

Last month India’s External Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Raveesh Kumar, announced with a flourish that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj would hold talks with her Pak counterpart, Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Wormtongue Qureshi, in New York "next week", but within 24 hours India called off the bilateral meeting without a valid explanation for the change of heart.

The buzz in India is that US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
exerted pressure on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to agree to a Pak proposal to resume talks resulting in the announcement. But Mohan Bhagwat, chief of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ‐ the mother of all Hindu right-wing bodies including the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party ‐ ordered Modi to cancel the talks.

Apparently, Bhagwat conveyed to Modi ‐ who is himself an RSS member like his cabinet colleagues ‐ that resumption of peace dialogue with Pakistain at this juncture wouldn’t go down well with the BJP’s core constituency ahead of crucial assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh, not to speak of the 2019 general elections. And Modi fell in line.

If the talks had not been cancelled, it would have been the first face-to-face meeting between the Foreign Ministers of India and Pakistain since December 2015.

OFFICIAL EXPLANATION
Diplomats and commentators refuse to buy New Delhi’s official explanation that the talks were cancelled because of the killing of an Indian security personnel and a Pak stamp honoring separatist Burhan Wani as both the "deeply disturbing developments" took place before the talks were announced.

The harsh language of the Ministry of External Affairs statement, replete with inaccuracies, while calling off the meeting ‐ "the evil agenda of Pakistain stands exposed" and the "true face" of Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who who convinced himself that playing cricket qualified him to lead a nuclear-armed nation with severe personality problems...
has been "revealed to the world" ‐ also raised eyebrows.

The statement claimed that Khan had been in office "for a few months" when in fact it had only been a month. Sharat Sabharwal, India’s former High Commissioner in Pakistain, virtually said that MEA run by Indian Foreign Service (IFS) had been completely bypassed in the announcement and cancellation of talks between the two foreign ministers.

Election-oriented statements
"IFS does not draft such election-oriented statements or take such hasty flip flop decisions. Seems like the handiwork of ’muscular’ thinking. More ’brawn’ than ’brain’!", said an outspoken Sabharwal.

Sabharwal seemed to hint that Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor, known for his hawkish views on Pakistain, had drafted the statement released by MEA announcing cancellation of talks instead of career diplomats who are more circumspect.

ALSO READ: New book says India’s Modi gunning for Pakistain but subservient to China, the US

India’s "muscular" statement gave Khan an opportunity to attack Modi personally. Said Khan: "All my life I have come across small men occupying big offices who do not have the vision to see the larger picture", while Pak commentator Zarrar Khurho said that the "language used in the Indian cancellation is nothing short of a Bollywood script or a Star Plus drama".

Jyoti Malhotra, Editor National Affairs & Strategic Affairs of The Print website in New Delhi, told Al Arabiya English that the cancellation of talks by India "demonstrated insecurity".

"The Indian government put out several reasons for the confirmation and cancellation of talks with Pakistain within a span of 24 hours. But the truth is that it demonstrates a certain insecurity for a country that wants to project itself as a regional power. And the tragedy is that ordinary people of the two countries will suffer from the lack of contact," she said.

[AmericanThinker] Fresh off getting their britches kicked over the Kavanaugh nomination, the American left has come up with yet another scheme to stymie the GOP and strangle the MAGA program in its cradle.

This is the product of John Burton, an Obama acolyte and political activist who, harnessing the crowdsourcing process (the "Wiki effect"), has signed up an army of amateur volunteers to examine the records of dozens of vulnerable GOP candidates with the intention of publicizing these findings in a string of October surprises.

Burton is an ex-banker who worked for the Obama campaign as an opposition researcher. After Donald Trump was elected, he joined the "Resistance," according to his own words, out of guilt that he'd allowed Trump to be elected.

He immediately organized a telephone campaign in which, shortly after the inauguration, 78,000 callers contacted the Senate Judiciary Committee demanding an investigation into "Russian collusion." Some sources give him credit for the Mueller investigation, which is arguable, to say the least.

Burton then applied himself to organizing "Citizen Strong," a 501(c)(4) "grassroots" outfit dedicated to ending the Trump menace. Anticipating the 2018 elections, he has organized 16,000 volunteers who have been searching the net for "damaging material" on GOP candidates. Citizen Strong is targeting three Senate races, 22 House races, and 133 state legislative races in 13 states. The effort has been financed by what even his supporters call "dark money." (It should also be mentioned that one of the individuals involved is an evident Russian immigrant named "Tanya." Another is named "Vlad." You'd really think they'd know better.)

The purpose is to unleash all this material prior to November 6, throwing GOP electoral efforts into chaos and delivering the seats in contention to the Dems.

We will pause here for the usual suspects to respond, as they did to the Mueller investigation and the Kavanaugh hearings, by racing back and forth and screeching, "It's over... it's hopeless... nothing can be done... They've won... we're finished, I tell you..."

Moving on, we will now calmly examine the reasons why it's by no means "all over":

LHC sets aside death sentence handed to PML-N MNA Abid Raza, 3 others in murder case
[DAWN] The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday acquitted PML-N MNA Chaudhry Abid Raza and three others in a murder case, DawnNewsTV reported.

A two-member LHC division bench comprising Justice Sardar Shamim Ahmad and Justice Shehbaz Rizvi was hearing the case.

A trial court had sentenced Raza in 1999 under Section 302 of the Pakistain Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) for murdering six people. The conviction was challenged before the LHC but was dismissed when both parties reached a compromise. The death sentence was revoked in 2003 by a division bench.

In 2016, the Supreme Court suspended the 2003 judgement and remanded the case to the LHC.

Last month, the LHC bench that was hearing the case, had appointed a criminal law expert as amicus curiae (friend of court) to decide whether an offence under Section 7 of the ATA was compoundable (reconcilable).

During today's hearing, the MNA's lawyer had argued that Raza was acquitted after an agreement with the complainant. The state lawyer, however, said that a compromise deed did not hold in a terrorism case and urged the court to reinstate the trial court's verdict that was issued in 1999.

Previously, the counsel for MNA and other convicts had claimed that Section 7 of the ATA was not added in the case. They argued that the high court would have to hear the appeal against the conviction on merits if it maintained death penalty
under the special law.

Internal conflicts, assassinations, and tank attacks between Houthis on the rise
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Assassinations have become common between Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
militias, majorly caused by internal divisions and splits between top leaders.

Those who split from the militias are said to be killed directly in liquidation attacks or through blowing up their houses.

Militias in Sanaa attacked the house of Doctor Abbas Mohammed Zaid and stole documents and devices from him.

Abbas Mohammed Zaid is the brother of the 14th most wanted man by the coalition forces supporting the legitimate government in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
- Hassan Mohammed Zaid, the minister of sport in the Houthi government that is not recognized internationally, and one of the Houthi leaders.

The Zaid family is considered a supporter of Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, and it helped him enter Sanaa in September 2014.

Conflicts and splits have been increasing within the Houthi leadership lately, the biggest such incident happened a few days ago, when Abdul-Malik al-Houthi had a bloody confrontation with the mufti of the Houthi militias in Saada and Majz district specifically.

Houthi militias attacked the house of the mufti with tanks, missiles, and mortar bombs, killing more than 30 people, injuring dozens, and blowing up houses owned by supporters of the mufti.

The Houthi militias are also suppressing demonstrations that went out recently in Sanaa complaining about the plunging living standards, as soaring prices put basic commodities out of reach of many people.

Houthis tossed in the clink
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
more than 50 female activists from among the students of Sanaa University, and killed one of the security guards.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Memo To California Gop: Vote Socialist?
[PowerLine] I caught a headline yesterday concerning how Arnold Schwarzenegger regrets and is apologizing for his old line about "girly men," because #MeToo or something:

In the summer of 2004, Schwarzenegger called Democrats "girly men" and urged voters to "terminate" them on Election Day ‐ prompting outrage from his opponents, the Los Angeles Times reported at the time.

Of course, the real reason the Governator is recanting is that he became a girly man himself.

In any case, one of Ah-nold’s legacies is California’s current "jungle primary" system, in which all candidates from every party appear on the primary ballot together, and the top two vote getters go on to the November general election ballot. In 2016 this led to two Democrats facing off in the Senate race, and it has happened again this year, as Sen. Dianne Feinstein is facing off against the far-left Kevin de Leon for the U.S. Senate. There is no Republican on the ballot.

Which raises this delicious possibility: California Republicans have it in their power to punish Feinstein for her role in the Kavanaugh nomination process by voting en masse for de Leon. Since the Democrats are head fast to the far left, why not help them out on this self-destructive course. de Leon is a mediocrity (and also something of a fraud, since he added the "de" to his name only a few years ago to give an artificial boost to his identity politics street cred).

There has been speculation that Feinstein launched the late stunt on Kavanaugh because she was worried about losing to de Leon. It would be the height of irony if it was Republicans delivered a humiliating blow and ignominious end to her long career as a result of that bad faith act. I know it is an unnatural act for good California Republicans‐all ten of us that are left‐to vote for a socialist, but think about it. I doubt Chuck Schumer would really thrill to having Kevin de Leon in his caucus.

Reminder:

She already had convictions for indecent assault, indecent exposure and gross indecency involving children, violence and dishonesty.

The judge at Leeds Crown Court described her as a "highly manipulative predator", while the prosecution said she used her transgender persona to "put herself in contact with vulnerable persons she can then abuse".

Israel Destroys Hamas 'Attack Tunnel' from Gaza
[An Nahar] Israel's military said it destroyed a Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,-built tunnel extending into its territory from the Gazoo Strip on Thursday that was intended for attacks.

Military front man Jonathan Conricus said it was the 15th such tunnel discovered and destroyed by Israel in the past year.

There were no indications of casualties linked to the destruction of the tunnel around one kilometer in length (less than a mile) and which originated from the Khan Yunis area of southern Gazoo.

It extended around 200 meters (650 feet) into Israeli territory, Conricus said, adding Israel's army had been monitoring its construction for several months.

He declined to elaborate on how the tunnel was destroyed, but said "combat engineering means" were used.

Conricus called it a "complex tunnel system with various connections and branches."

Israel has in recent months employed technology to detect and destroy tunnels without bombing them, including by filling them with material to make them unusable.

Israel is also building an underground wall around the blockaded Gazoo Strip to stop tunnel digging. Work on the massive project is expected to be completed by the end of 2019, Conricus said.

Conricus alleged Hamas used new methods in building the tunnel destroyed Thursday that seemed intended to evade Israel's detection methods.

He declined however to provide specifics, but noted it was equipped with electricity and communication hardware.

The destruction of the tunnel comes amid months of protests and festivities along the Gazoo border that have raised fears of a fourth war since 2008 between Israel and Hamas, the Islamist movement that runs the Paleostinian enclave.

US-backed forces capture Canadian, Turkish, German ISIS fighters
[ALMASDARNEWS] The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) recently captured three Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS/ISIS/IS/ISIS) bully boyz in eastern Syria, the group’s official media wing announced today.

According to the official media wing of the SDF, their troops captured three foreign ISIS fighters from Canada, Germany, and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
Below is the official statement regarding the three foreign ISIS members:

In this context, 3 ISIS bully boyz from Turkey, Canada and Germany have been captured as a result of special operations conducted by our Anti-Terror Units (YAT).

-The terrorist named Dirk Richard Pleil, German national who crossed Ottoman Turkish-Syrian border in 2015 and joined ISIS, has been working within the ranks of the organization as a doctor-prosthetist but at times has been also directly involved in atrocities committed by the terrorist organization.

-The terrorist named Mohammad Ali, who is a Canadian citizen, was a one of the ISIS number-one snipers. He trained thousands of bully boyz in Hasakah, Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor and participated himself in dozens of criminal acts. He also was able to cross to Syria from Turkey without any hindrance.

In Syria, he was known as Abu Turab al-Kanadi and via his social media accounts he was encouraging people to join ISIS. In 2014, following the atrocious attacks that led to the deaths of Canadian soldiers in Quebec and Ottawa, again using his social media accounts, he called for increasing terrorist assaults, declaring that civilians or security personal should be killed as "infidels".

He stated that those who want to join the ISIS, should go to Turkey and contact him from there. It is known that he help whole group from Toronto cross to Syria via Turkey and join ISIS.

-The terrorist Ergun Orhan is a Ottoman Turkish national born in Germany who after contacting the ISIS through social media, crossed to Syria from Turkey in 2015 and joined the organization. He was active in Jarablus and Raqqa.

These bully boyz who were captured by our forces, have came to Syria to join ISIS thanks to Ottoman Turkish help, they had confessed it themselves. We know that many members of the group who committed inhuman crimes are organized into small cells in many regions and prepared to carry out massacres at the first opportunity We would like to point out that these cells, which want to perpetuate attacks, are rendered ineffective before even taking action as a result of special operations conducted by our forces. We have announced to the public that many of the Middle East and European nationals have been tossed in the clink
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
and many of them have been rendered ineffective. We are determined to continue our struggle successfully and its results will be announced to our people and to the public.

Doctor who helped find Bin Laden ‘unwell’ in tiny cell
[AsiaTimes] Dr Shakil Afridi helped the CIA track down al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden but is considered a traitor in Pakistan. A new law will allow his conviction to be challenged in a higher court.

The doctor who helped the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) hunt down Osama Bin Laden – by running a fake vaccination campaign in 2011 – is being held in a high-security prison in Pakistan’s central Punjab, where he has reportedly been in very poor health.

Sources among Dr Shakil Afridi’s family and his lead attorney have confirmed that the jail authorities do not allow his lawyers to meet him. The family is also not permitted to deliver everyday essentials to Afridi, who is incarcerated in a tiny cell just 1.5 square meters (5×5 ft) in size in a heavily fortified jail equipped with high-tech security.

The prison in Sahiwal, where Dr Afridi is in solitary confinement, was built for dangerous and high profile prisoners from all over the country.

It has an automatic locking system for each cell and state-of-the-art gadgetry including CCTV cameras, computers, delta barriers, jamming devices, walkthrough gates, and watchtowers. A five-layer security cover and round-the-clock patrolling by elite Police commandoes make it the most protected jail in Pakistan.

His elder brother Jameel told Asia Times: “The facilities normally available to common prisoners under the jail manual are denied to Dr Afridi. The authorities gave me his soap, razor, towel, toothpaste, brushes, slippers, joggers, socks and vests last time I visited him in Sahiwal.”

He said Shakil’s health was deteriorating in the small detention cell where mosquitoes buzz around at night. “They turned over his prayer beads and prayer mats and refused to allow these items in the cell. The jail authorities did not even allow hair dye, which I bought for him,” Jamal lamented.

Last week, Pakistan’s newly appointed Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi was in New York for the United Nations General Assembly. During an interview with Fox News, he gave an assurance that the government was still considering whether to release Shakil Afridi.

“He is viewed as a traitor in Pakistan but a friend in the US. So we have to bridge this gap,” Fox News quoted him as saying. He claimed that Dr Afridi had undergone a legal process in Pakistan and was given a fair chance to plead his case. “He was sentenced, convicted and [is] serving a sentence and we expect you would respect our legal process, as we respect yours,” Qureshi added.

Qamar Nadeem, Dr Afridi’s lead attorney, said: “The frosty relations with the US cannot be normalized until Pakistan sympathetically reconsiders the plight of Afridi’s family, withdraws all cases against him and allows him to join his family as a free citizen.”

He alluded to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s recent visit to Islamabad, saying the government would give a boost to US-Pakistan relations if Afridi was set free. “Whatever effort they make in trying to normalize the [bilateral] relationship will not be effective until a decision is taken to determine the fate of Dr Afridi.”

The lawyer said Dr Afridi was convicted in a concocted case for helping the CIA locate Bin Laden, an act that Pakistani authorities believed was “treasonous.”
He said the charge of funding, harboring, facilitating the Lashkar e-Islam terrorist group was a way to cover the anger of the establishment. “He is languishing in jail for years facing phony charges that were never substantiated at any stage of his protracted legal battle,” Nadeem claimed.

ATC gives police final extension to submit report on absconders in Naqeeb murder case
[DAWN] An Anti-terrorism Court (ATC) on Thursday gave the police a "last extension" on the deadline to provide its final report on the arrests of absconders in a case pertaining to the extra-judicial killing of Naqeebullah Mehsud in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
Former Malir Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar and three other suspects were booked for planting false evidence ‐ pistols and hand grenades ‐ on Mehsud and three others after they were killed in a shootout, and later registering a false case against the dear departed under the Sindh Arms Act for illegal possession of arms and explosives.

"We are conducting raids in efforts to arrest the absconders and will succeed soon," the Investigation Officer told the court today.

Anwar, who was present in court for the hearing, refuted reports about being moved from his Malir Cantt residence while speaking to the media outside court.

He added that he was unaware about any National Accountability Bureau inquiry into his assets.

Justice Shaukat Siddiqui removed as Islamabad High Court judge
[DAWN] President Arif Alvi has removed Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui as a judge of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), a notification issued by the law ministry said on Thursday.

The president took the decision after the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) recommended his removal, the statement added.

A letter written by the SJC had emerged earlier in the day, in which the council, comprising five Supreme Court judges, had said it found Justice Siddiqui guilty of misconduct over a speech he delivered in July earlier this year before the Rawalpindi District Bar Association.

"The council is unanimously of the opinion that in the matter of making his speech before the District Bar Association, Rawalpindi on [July 21] Mr. Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui [...] had displayed conduct unbecoming of a judge of a high court and was, thus, guilty of misconduct and he is, therefore, liable to be removed from his office under Article 209(6) of the Constitution," the communication read.

The SJC is a constitutional forum that examines the conduct of superior court judges and then recommends their removal from the top post.

While addressing an audience at the Rawalpindi bar, Justice Siddiqui had claimed that personnel of the Inter-Services Intelligence
...the Pak military intelligence agency that controls the military -- heads of ISI typically get promoted into the Chief of Army Staff position. It serves as a general command center for favored turban groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, tries to influence the politix of neighboring countries, and carries out a (usually) low-level war against India in Kashmir...
(ISI) were manipulating judicial proceedings.

He had further claimed that the spy agency had approached IHC Chief Justice Muhammad Anwar Khan Kasi and said: "'We do not want to let Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf, then by the courts...
and his daughter come out [of the prison] until elections, do not include Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui on the bench [hearing Sharifs' appeals]'."

Justice Siddiqui had offered no evidence to support the claims he made.

The IHC judge was facing a reference over his controversial speech, the third reference filed against him.

Egyptian military court sentences 17 to death for ISIS church attacks
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] An Egyptian military court on Thursday sentenced 17 people to death over a series of suicide kabooms of churches claimed by the ISIS myrmidon group that left dozens dead.

Seventy-four people were killed in the attacks in 2016 and 2017, targeting Coptic Christians in Cairo, Alexandria and the Nile Delta city of Tanta.

The court also sentenced 19 people to life in prison and 10 others to between 10 and 15 years, judicial and security officials said.

Christian sites of worship across Egypt have been repeatedly targeted in attacks claimed by ISIS, prompting the authorities to impose a state of emergency 18 months ago.

A suicide kaboom on December 11, 2016 on the Saint Peter and Saint Paul church killed 29 in the heart of Cairo.

The following April, 45 people were killed as Christians gathered to celebrate Palm Sunday in the cities of Tanta and Alexandria.

Coptic Christians make up about 10 percent of Egypt’s predominantly Sunni Moslem population.

Since 2013, hundreds of coppers, soldiers and civilians have been killed in myrmidon attacks.

In November last year, suspected ISIS member killed more than 300 Moslem worshippers in a gun and bomb assault on a mosque in the Sinai Peninsula.

The Egyptian army is waging a major operation focused on the Sinai aimed at wiping out ISIS.

In April, a military court had initially condemned 36 people to death over the church bombings.

The retrial came after the case was referred to the Grand Mufti, Egypt’s highest religious authority, as required by law whenever a death sentence is passed.

Iran’s Khamenei orders officials to resolve economic crisis
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has ordered officials to urgently find solutions to overcome a crisis spurred by the re-imposition of US economic sanctions, the semi-official Fars news agency reported on Thursday.

"There is no crisis and no problems in the country that we cannot resolve... Officials should find solutions to overcome the existing economic hardship and to disappoint the enemy by resolving it," Fars quoted Khamenei as telling officials on Wednesday night.

"With unity we can overcome all crises."

Khamenei also said Iran could resist the pressure of US sanctions by relying on its own natural and human resources.

In May, President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
pulled the United States out of a 2015 international deal that aimed to curb Iran’s nuclear program and he re-imposed sanctions on Tehran in August.

Trump plans to impose harsher sanctions in November on Iran’s oil and banking sectors.

Iran’s rial currency has lost 70 percent of its value against the US dollar since April.

"We are reopening our Basra and Mosul consulates that we previously had to close due to security reasons," Mevlut Cavusoglu told news hounds after meeting with Iraqi President Barham Salih in the capital Baghdad.

"In the fight against terror, Turkey will continue to destroy gunnies wherever they are under the international law," he continued.

"This fight isn’t a violation of Iraq’s territorial integrity nor it is an attack. It’s our right arising from the international law," Cavusoglu added.

Israeli Soldier Stabbed by Palestinian in West Bank
[An Nahar] A Paleostinian stabbed and maimed an Israeli reserve soldier in the occupied West Bank on Thursday and troops were searching for the assailant, the Israeli army said.

An Israeli civilian was also maimed from shrapnel when soldiers fired in the direction of the fleeing assailant, according to the army.

Both the soldier and civilian were taken to hospital in moderate condition, it said. The reserve soldier was in uniform at the time.

There were no further details available on the assailant.

The incident occurred at a junction near the northern West Bank city of Nablus.

On Sunday, also in the northern West Bank, a Paleostinian rubbed out two Israelis and maimed another at an industrial zone for an Israeli settlement where the suspect worked.

Israeli authorities are continuing to search for the gunman in that incident.

There was no indication of a link between the two cases

Trump defies California senators with 9th Circuit judge nominations
[SacBee] Made themselves "unconsultable" did they? Elections, and Disgusting actions, have consequences, beyotches After months of negotiations and delays, the White House is moving to fill California's three vacancies on the influential 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ‐ over the strenuous objections of the state's two Democratic senators.

White House officials had been negotiating with Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris, both of whom sit on the Senate Judiciary Committee, earlier in the year about filling these and other federal court vacancies in the state. But that dialogue collapsed this past summer, Senate aides said.

On Wednesday night, the Trump administration announced it was nominating three attorneys to the Ninth Circuit, the largest and busiest federal appeals court in the country. Among the thorny issues the court has tackled or could decide on are the legality of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, program for undocumented young people brought to the country as children, the president's travel ban on people from several Muslim-majority countries, and a lawsuit challenging the White House's attempts to withhold federal funds from sanctuary cities.

The White House also announced nominees for three district court vacancies in California on Wednesday.

President Trump's nominees for the appeals court ‐ litigators Daniel Collins and Kenneth Lee and Assistant United States Attorney Patrick Bumatay ‐ are all based in Southern California, are prominent members of the conservative Federalist Society, and have worked for Republican administrations. None of the three were approved by Feinstein or Harris via a process known as a "blue slip," the senators' offices confirmed Thursday.

"Last night the White House moved forward without consulting me, picking controversial candidates from its initial list and another individual with no judicial experience who had not previously been suggested," Feinstein said in a statement.

"Instead of working with our office to identify consensus nominees for the 9th Circuit, the White House continues to try to pack the courts with partisan judges who will blindly support the President's agenda, instead of acting as an independent check on this Administration," Lily Adams, Harris' communications director, said in a statement.

Traditionally, presidents have deferred to home state senators when nominating federal judges, agreeing not to nominate people unless those senators returned their blue slip in support of the prospective judge.

President Trump and Senate Republicans, however, have done away with that custom, angering Democrats as they pushed forward controversial nominees for appeals court posts in Ohio, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

As the leading Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, Feinstein has more clout than the average Senate Democrat. And the White House and Senate Republicans were initially careful to engage her. Last spring, White House sent Feinstein and Harris' offices a list of possible nominees to fill vacancies left by the retirements of two 9th Circuit judges and the death of a third. That list reportedly included Lee and Collins.

" (ISIS/ISIS/IS/ISIS) launched a surprise attack in the eastern countryside of the Deir Ezzor Governorate tonight.

According to a military source in Damascus, the Islamic State attacked the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions along the western bank of the Euphrates near the cities of Hasarat and al-Mayadeen.

However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
despite their best efforts to infiltrate the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses, the Islamic State was ultimately forced to withdraw across the Euphrates River after they were spotted by the government forces.

During the brief battle, the Syrian Arab Army suffered at least a half dozen casualties, while killing more than ten Islamic State faceless myrmidons in the process.

This failed infiltration attempt by the Islamic State comes just hours after their forces lost more territory to the Syrian Arab Army in the al-Safa region of southern Syria.

Iran Summons German Envoy over Extradition of 'Bomb Plot' Diplomat
[An Nahar] Tehran summoned the German ambassador on Wednesday to protest the extradition of one of its diplomats to Belgium over his alleged role in a bomb plot.

"The German ambassador to Tehran was summoned today to protest against the extradition... of one of our diplomats to Belgium," foreign ministry front man Bahram Ghasemi said in a statement.

The head of the ministry's European desk told the ambassador that the arrest and extradition were "caused by a fabricated conspiracy by enemies of Iran and European relations" and called for his swift release, the statement added.

The Iranian diplomat, who had been based in Vienna, was taken into custody in Belgium earlier on Wednesday on suspicion of involvement in an alleged plot to bomb an Iranian opposition rally in La Belle France.

The suspect was previously identified as Assadollah Asadi.

Iran has denied French accusations that he was involved in a plot targeting the annual gathering of the exiled National Council of Resistance of Iran on June 30 just outside Gay Paree.

The accusations come at a particularly sensitive time as Iran works with European powers to salvage the 2015 nuclear deal, abandoned by the United States earlier this year.

Hurricane Michael shuts in 40% off Gulf of Mexico oil production
[OUTLINE] Roughly 40 percent of the Gulf of Mexico’s oil production and 28 percent of its natural gas production was shut down as of Tuesday, as the region braced for a powerful hurricane to make landfall.

At least 75 platforms were evacuated, according to Rooters, including those operated by Anadarko Petroleum, BHP Billiton, BP, Chevron and ExxonMobil. Hurricane Michael strengthened to a Category 4 storm as it approached the Florida Panhandle, threatening catastrophic damage to Florida’s Gulf Coast. "Some additional strengthening is possible before landfall," the National Hurricane Center said in a public advisory. The storm had maximum sustained winds of 140 miles per hour as of Wednesday morning.

An estimated 670,800 barrels per day of oil production and around 726 million cubic feet per day of natural gas production shut down. At least three drilling rigs were evacuated and eight more were moved out of the range of the storm, according to BSEE.

Thai authorities to deport 70 Pakistani asylum seekers
[DAWN] Thai authorities on Thursday convicted 70 Pak asylum seekers of staying illegally in Thailand despite their protestations that they face persecution if they are sent home, as police intensify a crackdown on illegal immigration.

The Taling Chan Provincial Court issued fines and up to two-month suspended jail sentences to the group, which was charged with overstaying their visas and illegal entry. An officer in charge of the case, who declined to be named because of office policy, said they will be held in a detention centre until they are deported.

The group was accompanied by 11 children who will also be held in the detention centre.

One of the defendants, Emmanuel Shan, said the group consists mostly of Christian Paks and some belonging to the Ahmadi community, and that members of the two religious groups face persecution in Pakistain.

"I'm Christian and my life and family are not safe back in Pakistain," he said.

Police said 52 of the defendants were incarcerated

, a senior minister said on Thursday, with more than 1,200 people on death row set to win a reprieve following a groundswell of opposition to capital punishment.

Capital punishment is currently mandatory for murder, kidnapping, possession of firearms and drug trafficking, among other crimes, and is carried out by hanging ‐ a legacy of British colonial rule.

Communications and multimedia minister Gobind Singh Deo confirmed the cabinet had resolved to end the death penalty.

"I hope the law will be amended soon," he told AFP.

‘Mentally ill’, ‘illiterate’, ‘incel’: Liberals vent fury as Kanye West visits Trump in White House
[RT] Accusing political opponents of being mentally ill used to be frowned upon in democracies, yet that was the prime tactic media and Twitter voices deployed against Kanye West, who was also labeled an "incel"

While Kanye has previously expressed sympathies for the current administration, the visit provoked an outpouring of unadulterated condemnation from the mainstream.

Washington Supreme Court rules death penalty unconstitutional, changes death sentences to life
[RT]
The unanimous ruling, which makes Washington the latest state to throw out the capital punishment, said that the death penalty
was "unequally applied ‐sometimes by where the crime took place, or the county of residence, or the available budgetary resources at any given point in time, or the race of the defendant."

The ruling came in the case of Allen Eugene Gregory, who was convicted of the rape, robbery and murder of 43-year-old Geneine Harshfield in 1996. Lawyers for Gregory said the death penalty was arbitrarily applied in contravention of the constitution.

Washington’s Democratic governor Jay Inslee, who was a former supporter of the death penalty, had placed a moratorium on capital punishment in 2014, saying that executions would not take place while he was in office.

Following the supreme court ruling, Inslee released a statement calling the ruling a "hugely important moment" in the pursuit of "equal and fair application of justice".

"The court makes it perfectly clear that capital punishment in our state has been imposed in an ’arbitrary and racially biased manner,’ is ’unequally applied’ and serves no criminal justice goal," the statement said.

As it stands, 31 US states still have the death penalty, while 19 states do not. There are also four states where a governor-imposed moratorium on capital punishment has been put in place.

#2  "unequally applied ‐sometimes by where the crime took place, or the county of residence, or the available budgetary resources at any given point in time, or the race of the defendant."

The disparate impact fiction created by the judiciary. Never mind that the stats for male vs female deaths on the job are horrendously out of proportion or that military cemeteries across the country suffer from similar disparate representation. It's a tool created to garner more power to the rulers and steal it from the ruled.

Meanwhile, the death penalty will still be carried out in your streets, your neighborhoods, and businesses. There's a reason blocks upon blocks of Chicago belong to the gangs and not the 'authorities'. One has an effective death penalty, the other really doesn't.

#4  Going for a mandatory life sentence for capital crimes does save states a lot of money on legal fees with the huge number of endless procedural challenges that defense attorneys crank up for their clients.

I have come to the point that the only way capital punishment works is if it is implemented immediately and in public. back in the day, when Wildcat Willie was sentenced to be hanged, the gallows had already been build. AND the towns people treated it like free entertainment...some may comment on that but given the mob mentality of human nature and the blood lust that inhabits therein, it is understandable.

If you don't want to pay millions in legal fees, you should be willing to hang them immediately after the verdict.

I am for that.

#6  I don't believe that prison is a punishment. Not currently. It was originally simply where you were held.

Some people do deserve death. And it should be done in such a way to make an impact on people. Executing people quietly in the dark the way we currently do is sucked dry of any deterrent value.

Make it public and make it gruesome. Put them in glass jars in the public square and let people watch them die slowly, baking in the sun. There is always the option of using them as organ donors as well, which can be said to possibly save more lives than they took.

People should be terrified of breaking the law. It should have very real, permanent consequences.

Haftar’s forces spokesman: Libyans won’t vote for constitution
[Libya Observer] The front man for the self-styled army in eastern Libya, Ahmed al-Mismari, said Wednesday in a presser that the current Libyan constitution draft is miserable and not up to the ambitions of the Libyan people, adding that the referendum law passed by the House of Representatives was done in a very "cynical manner."

Al-Mismari indicated that what he described as the Libyan army’s general command led by Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
won’t allow any more prolongation of the political crisis in Libya.

"Haftar is positive that Libyans will reject the constitution and then we should immediately go to parliamentary and presidential elections as per Gay Paree declaration of principles in last May if the constitution was rejected by the people from the first referendum round." al-Mismari said.

When Haftar returned from his murky medical treatment trip to La Belle France, he told loyalists that "it's time for the military to carry out the mission" and that they should keep away from elections as they could be "a scheme."

"Elections might be right, but they might be a scheme too, so we need the army to call the shots." He added.

Meanwhile,
...back at the alley, Slats Chumbaloni was staring into a hole that was just .45 inch in diameter and was less than three feet from his heavily sweating face ...
eastern MPs rejected the passing of the referendum law saying "30 members from Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
region" met and passed it, adding that the law violates the constitutional declaration and needs amendment first and majority of two thirds of members afterwards.

NY prosecutor drops part of sex assault case against Harvey Weinstein
[RT] New York prosecutors have dropped one of the sex crime charges against disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein, according to news agencies. Weinstein appeared before New York Judge James Burke as his lawyers tried to have some or all of the charges he faces dismissed. The basis for the motion filed by Ben Brafman said prosecutors withheld evidence when presenting the case to the grand jury, such as friendly emails that one of Weinstein accusers sent to him. The case includes rape and sexual assault charges.

Russia hopes USA will be understanding about "Soyuz" incident
Follow up to this report from yesterday.
[Al Ahram] Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said on Thursday he hoped the United States would be understanding about a malfunction that occurred during a launch of the "Soyuz" spacecraft.

He was quoted as saying by Interfax news agency that manned space flights would be suspended until an investigation into the causes of the malfunction is completed.

"Soyuz" made an emergency landing near the city of Zhezkazgan in central Kazakhstan after its booster rockets failed in mid-air en route to the International Space Station. It had a Russian cosmonaut and a US astronaut on board.

US won’t give ‘one single dollar’ for Syria reconstruction until Iranian forces are out -- Pompeo
[RT] The US will spend no more money on the reconstruction of war-ravaged Syria if it does not see off Iranian troops, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said. The US previously said it would stay in Syria as long as Iran is there.

Speaking to the pro-Israel Jewish Institute for National Security of America on Wednesday, Pompeo said that Damascus should kick out Iranian elements that helped it to drive out the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. (IS, formerly ISIS) from large swathes of its territory, if it wants to keep receiving reconstruction assistance from Washington in the future.

"If Syria doesn’t ensure the total withdrawal of Iranian-backed troops, it will not receive one single dollar from the United States for reconstruction."

Pompeo noted that Washington holds Damascus responsible for the departure of Iranian forces, saying that "the onus of expelling Iran from the country falls on the Syrian government."

While the US has long demanded that the Iranian forces, which are in Syria at the invitation of Damascus, leave their positions, it the first time Washington has linked humanitarian assistance to Iran’s complete withdrawal.

Only last August, Iran and Syria signed a defense agreement that was aimed at rebuilding Syria’s severely depleted armed forces and its military industry.

3 soldiers martyred, 5 wounded as roadside bomb explodes in South Waziristan
[DAWN] At least three soldiers bit the dust and five others were maimed in a roadside kaboom blast in South Wazoo near the Pak-Afghan border on Thursday, officials said.

While there was no immediate claim of responsibility for the kaboom, the military has been battling Taliban

The army launched an operation in mid-2014 to wipe out turban bases in the area and end the near decade-long insurgency that has cost thousands of lives.

U.N. Envoy 'No Longer Acceptable' for Palestinians
[An Nahar] The Paleostinian leadership will no longer work with the U.N. peace envoy, a bigwig said Thursday, accusing him of overstepping his role by seeking a deal between Israel and the Islamist movement Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw,.

Ahmed Majdalani, a member of the Paleostine Liberation Organization’s (PLO) executive committee, said it had informed the U.N. secretary general that envoy Nickolay Mladenov was "no longer acceptable" to the Paleostinian government.

Mladenov had "gone beyond his role" in seeking agreements between Israel and rival Paleostinian faction Hamas, which controls Gazoo, he said, adding that his actions impacted "Paleostinian national security and the unity of our people."

There was no immediate comment from Mladenov or confirmation from the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
Mladenov, alongside Egypt, has been seeking a long-term truce agreement between Hamas and the Jewish state, without including Paleostinian President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas

The talks have stalled, partly due to pressure form Abbas, but on Tuesday a smaller U.N.-brokered agreement was reached for Qatar

President Sisi says Egypt wants terrorist El-Ashmawi to face justice on its soil
[Al Ahram] Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has said that Egypt wants notorious Egyptian terrorist leader Hesham El-Ashmawi to be returned to his country to be held accountable for his crimes.

El-Ashmawi, a former Egyptian army officer and leader of an al-Qaeda offshoot, was captured earlier this week in Libya.

President El-Sisi made the comments during the Armed Forces' 29th anniversary seminar on Thursday, which was titled ’October: Communication of Generations’ to mark the anniversary of Egypt’s war with Israel on 6 October 1973.

El-Sisi contrasted El-Ashmawi with Ahmed El-Mansi, an Egyptian officer who was killed in festivities with Lions of Islam in North Sinai and who was part of the same Army Special Forces unit as El-Ashmawi.

"El-Mansi and El-Ashmawi are both human beings and army officers who shared the same unit in the Armed Forces. We look up to the former with pride and gratitude, while we look to hold the latter one accountable for his crimes," the president said.

El-Mansy is often lauded for having sacrificed himself for his fellow troops during fierce festivities where 26 soldiers and officers were killed in July 2017.

"The simple difference between El-Ashmawi and El-Mansi is that the former may have been confused or even a traitor, while the latter maintained the correct path, sacrificing his life to protect his country and people," El-Sisi added.

On Monday, Ahmed Mismari, front man of the Libyan National Army (LNA), which controls eastern Libya, said that El-Ashmawi was apprehended in Derna, where eastern Libyan forces are fighting terrorist groups. A picture of El-Ashmawi with blood on his face has been published by the LNA.

An Egyptian military source told Ahram Online that it is not clear when El-Ashmawi, who has been sentenced to death in Egypt, will be handed over to Egyptian authorities.

El-Ashmawi was born in 1978 and graduated in 2000 from the Military Academy. He was expelled from the Egyptian army in 2011.

El-Ashmawi, a former Special Forces officer also known as Abu Omar El-Mohager (the immigrant), has been considered among the most dangerous Lions of Islam linked to many attacks in Egypt.

In July 2015, El-Ashmawi announced the establishment of the Mourabitoun organization in Libya, which is loyal to the al-Qaeda terrorist organization.

El-Ashmawi is believed to have been involved in an liquidation attempt on former Egyptian Interior Minister Mohammed Ibrahim and the murder of top prosecutor Hisham Barakat, as well as plotting an attack on Egyptian border guards in February 2015, which resulted in the death of 29 Armed Forces personnel.

He is also believed to be behind a deadly attack on Christian pilgrims in Upper Egypt's Minya governorate in May 2017, which killed 29 people.

In January 2015, his group was suspected of staging a multi-pronged attack on the headquarters of the Army Battalion 101 headquarters in El-Arish in North Sinai, which killed 30 soldiers and officers.

An Egyptian military court sentenced him in absentia, along with 13 other terrorists, to death over the New Valley massacre in Farafra on 19 July 2014, where 22 border guards were killed.

During the Armed Forces' 29th anniversary seminar, President El-Sisi also spoke about some of the major events that have taken place in the country in recent years.

Referring to the 25 January revolution, the president described its events as a "treatment based on a false diagnosis."

"Some people tried to convince Egyptians that things can change with a magic stick," he said.

El-Sisi affirmed that the 6 October War has not ended, but continues in a different form.

"In 1973, our enemy was obvious and clear, unlike now, when our enemy is vague, our real enemy is false consciousness," the president said.

Senator announces to boycott in camera meetings to discuss blasphemy law
[DAWN] Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...Assembly of Islamic Clergy, or JUI, is a Pak Deobandi (Hanafi) political party. There are two main branches, one led by Maulana Fazlur Rahman, and one led by Maulana Samiul Haq. Fazl is active in Pak politix and Sami spends more time running his madrassah. Both branches sponsor branches of the Taliban, though with plausible deniability...
Fazal (JUI-F) Senator Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri
...Central Secretary General of JUI-F, member of the Pak senate, formerly provincial minister of Balochistan. He has a master's degree in Islam and runs a madrassah...
on Wednesday announced that he will boycott meetings of the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology if in camera meetings are held to discuss a proposed law seeking equal punishments for those convicted of blasphemy and those who make false accusations of blasphemy.

The Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Bill 2018 was moved on the directions of Islamabad High Court after Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui ordered last year during a case that those who make false accusations of blasphemy should be given the same punishment as those convicted of blasphemy.

The bill was later prepared by the government and was referred by the upper house to the committee for discussion.

Chaired by Senator Rubina Khalid, the committee decided not to discuss the bill in the absence of Information Technology Minister Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, who tabled the bill in Senate but Senator Haideri still started discussing the issue.

"The matter is being discussed in the religious circles and we are of the view that such kinds of bills should not be passed. Many people register baseless cases of theft, robberies and other crimes and people are killed in the main markets but the aggrieved families cannot prove murder because witnesses refuse to record their statements in the court," Mr Haideri said.
