[IdahoMountainExoress] A military judge heard testimony Wednesday in the sentencing phase of the court-martial trial of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, with one military officer giving an account of injuries sustained while looking for the missing soldier from Hailey.
The judge, Army Col. Jeffery Nance, is still considering dismissing the case against Bergdahl because of comments made by President Donald Trump when he was a candidate. Meanwhile, Bergdahl’s fellow soldiers are testifying about their unsuccessful search for him after he voluntarily walked off a remote outpost in Afghanistan in June 2009.
At the sentencing hearing in Fort Bragg, N.C., on Wednesday, Nance said he had yet to decide how he will rule on a defense motion to dismiss the case because of Trump’s campaign-trail comments about Bergdahl, 31, Reuters and the Associated Press reported, including a statement that he is "a no-good traitor who should have been executed."
Prior to Bergdahl’s mid-October guilty pleas to charges of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy‐the latter of which carries a potential life sentence‐Nance denied a previous motion to dismiss the case due to Trump’s comments. While Nance considers the current motion to dismiss, soldiers who engaged in a lengthy but ultimately fruitless search for Bergdahl testified about the hardships and injuries they sustained in doing so.
After Bergdahl left his post, ostensibly to report what he viewed as failures in his unit’s leadership, he was captured by the Taliban, and his battalion commander, Col. Clinton Baker, testified Wednesday that the unit jumped into action in an attempt to retrieve the soldier before he was taken to Pakistan, according to Reuters. He testified that soldiers took direct fire and encountered improvised explosive devices every day for at least the first six weeks of the search, the network reported, and that new clothes had to be flown in for soldiers whose clothes rotted off of them after 37 days.
"The only time you slept was when you couldn’t stay conscious anymore," Reuters quoted Baker as testifying. "Everybody was out looking. That was it. We were tapped out."
Reuters and the Associated Press reported that Senior Chief Petty Officer James Hatch, a former Navy SEAL, testified that he was wounded by enemy AK-47 fire that killed an Army dog in a July 2009 raid aimed at finding Bergdahl. Reuters reported that Hatch has since had 18 medical procedures to repair those injuries.
Testimony about injuries sustained in the search for Bergdahl continued Thursday, but reports did not indicate that the sentencing would include testimony about deaths possibly related to the search for Bergdahl‐yet another source of controversy in the case of a soldier who was largely portrayed as an imprisoned hero when captive and a traitor once freed in 2014.
According to retired Command Sgt. Maj. Ken Wolfe and other officers interviewed about the case for the podcast "Serial," units searching for Bergdahl were approved for missions that typically wouldn’t have been approved, putting them in greater danger than usual, and resources used in the searches short-changed other units, leading to casualties in those units. But retired Lt. Col. Paul Edgar, who took part in the initial search, said that Bergdahl was being used as a scapegoat for deaths that are an ordinary part of war.
"In society, we treat Bowe as some aberration, but his case is simply a very normal part of war," Edgar said.
Hundreds of U.S. soldiers deserted during Bergdahl’s time overseas, but his five years in Taliban captivity and subsequent release in a controversial prisoner swap for Guantanamo Bay detainees made the case unique, "Serial" producers concluded.
Although military investigator Maj. Kenneth Dahl recommended that Bergdahl not face jail time, he was charged with desertion and misbehavior before the enemy in March 2015, eventually pleading guilty to the charges on Oct. 16 this year. He faces a maximum penalty of life in prison and dishonorable discharge for the latter charge, if Nance decides not to dismiss the case.

Now you understand why he and his lawyer went with a military judge rather than a full courts martial panel. These are the judges/lawyers that brought us military proceedings for illegal combatants (illegal according to the various conventions on war we've signed). The same lawyers that wrote up RoEs that directly contradicted Art. 99 of the UCMJ.
"Claiming that President Trump’s intemperate tone voids an entire legal proceeding is ludicrous, and in doing so Bowe Bergdahl’s legal team is questioning Anglo-American legal fundamendals."
"Although the judge had already ruled earlier this year that Trump’s statements did not constitute unlawful command influence"

Trumps comments were said while he was a covilian e ercosong his Constitutional freedom of speech rights that that this traitor turned against on the battle field. The judge needs to be prosecuted.
[The Hill] A federal court in California has struck down an emergency motion that would have forced the Trump administration to continue making ObamaCare subsidy payments to insurers.
U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria denied the motion for an injunction, saying that he was skeptical that cutting off the payments known as cost-sharing reductions (CSR) would cause an immediate injury to residents of the state.
He noted many states, including California, saw "the writing on the wall" and took actions to mitigate any potential harm if the payments were ended.
"To be sure, the absence of money for CSR payments does not seem to be causing health care reform to come crumbling down," Chhabria wrote in his ruling.
#1
There is no constitutional basis for the payments. As Trump wisely did, he threw the ball back for appropriations to the legislative branch which is the constitutional source of revenue. Can't wait for the socialists to declare the Judiciary has the right and power to tax and spend. Not that there are too many in that branch who seek such powers on any excuse (its for the children[tm]).
#7
It seems to me that the main stream media were trying to goad Trump into defying the judgment of the courts that continuing payments to insurance companies that were not authorized by congress is unconstitutional
I saw ABC news's reaction to Trump discontinuing the payments. It showed pictures of pathetic children who would presumably be deprived of medical care, and claimed that Trump was causing hardship to millions of innocents out of his meanness.
Actually though, had he not discontinued these payments he would be violating the dictates of the constitution, and that would have justified impeachment proceedings against him.
Obama had started the payments, which were obviously unconstitutional, but that is a judgment, and until the courts ruled that it was unconstitutional, it was not officially so. Obama could have acted out of stupidity or ignorance rather than willfully violating separation of powers. And it was similarly ok for Trump to continue the practice before the court ruling, that ruling made continuing the subsidies involved a clear violation of Trump's oath to obey the constitution, if he had done anything other than what he did.
He accompanied his action by an attempt to get bipartisan support for congress action to authorize the subsidies, and that was the most he could legally do on their behalf.
Was the massive media campaign against discontinuing the subsidies aimed at goading Trump to behave unconstitutionally? If he had continued the subsidies would they have demanded impeachment for that behavior?
I would not put that past them.

[PJ] Bravo, Charles Grassley! The Iowa senator has turned into something of an aging Mr. Smith taking on corruption in the Obama administration (and its Justice Department) and calling for a special investigator for the metastasizing Uranium One Scandal. But is it enough?
As has been reported, this 2010 deal was made despite a hitherto unknown FBI investigation that exposed bribery, kickbacks, etc. on the part of the Russian company involved. The pact resulted in 20% of U.S. uranium in Putin's hands (some of whic, in lethal yellow cake form, has already disappeared into the ether) and millions of dollars in the Clinton Foundation's coffers, basically at the same time.
Or should we now call this the Podesta, Podesta & Manafort Scandal, because an ongoing and related report on Tucker Carlson's cable show is unmasking a series of connections that make the most paranoid conspiracy theorist seem rational?
[WSJ] The confirmation this week that Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee paid an opposition-research firm for a "dossier" on Donald Trump is bombshell news. More bombshells are to come.
The Fusion GPS saga isn’t over. The Clinton-DNC funding is but a first glimpse into the shady election doings concealed within that oppo-research firm’s walls. We now know where Fusion got some of its cash, but the next question is how the firm used it. With whom did it work beyond former British spy Christopher Steele ? Whom did it pay? Who else was paying it?
The answers are in Fusion’s bank records. Fusion has doggedly refused to divulge the names of its clients for months now, despite extraordinary pressure. So why did the firm suddenly insist that middleman law firm Perkins Coie release Fusion from confidentiality agreements, and spill the beans on who hired it?
[American Thinker] Among the many scandals of the Obama administration that went unnoted by the MSM was a massive political hijacking. Fines levied against financial institutions were diverted from the federal treasury into the coffers of left-wing allies of the Obama administration. Now the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee says he has proof of political bias in selection of nonprofit recipients.
Alex Pappas writes at Fox News:
The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee claims he obtained a "smoking gun" email that proves the Obama Justice Department prevented settlement payouts from going to conservative-leaning organizations, even as liberal groups were awarded money and DOJ officials denied "picking and choosing" recipients.
"It is not every day in congressional investigations that we find a smoking gun," Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., said Tuesday. "Here, we have it." ...
But internal Justice Department emails released Tuesday by Goodlatte indicated that not only were officials involved in determining what organizations would get the money, but also Justice Department officials may have intervened to make sure the settlements didn't go to conservative groups.
In one such email in July 2014, a senior Justice Department official expressed "concerns" about what groups would receive settlement money from Citigroup ‐ saying they didn't want money going to a group that does "conservative property-rights legal services."
"Concerns include: a) not allowing Citi to pick a statewide intermediary like the Pacific Legal Foundation (does conservative property-rights legal services)," the official, whose name is redacted in the email, wrote under the title of "Acting Senior Counselor for Access to Justice."
The official added that "we are more likely to get the right result from a state bar association affiliated entity."
That is political bias, all right, and it makes the case that this was illegal.
[American Thinker] When the Democratic anti-Trump mantra of "Russia, Russia, Russia" was in its infancy, House Intelligence Committee off ranking member Rep. Adam Schiff from the People’s Republic of California was in high dudgeon over Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes daring to report to the public and the press that, yes, members of Team Trump were in fact surveilled and the contents of their conversations and their names were recorded and disseminated.
Rep. Schiff had no problem with intel leaks to the New York Times, but an intelligence committee chairman giving the President a heads-up that his transition team was in fact caught up in surveillance by his own government is out of bounds? Schiff insisted it was, and claimed Nunes was not acting as a committee chair but as a surrogate of Team Trump:
#1
Schiff is a liar? This tends to run in the left-wing party of corruption. Benghazi, Uranium One, Fast and Furious, IRS scandal, election fraud, fake dossiers...need I go on and on and on?
#2
Smokescreen tactics are occasionally difficult to detect but these guys are rank amatuers. Whenever asked if there is any evidence of Trump/Russian collusion Rep. Schiff is always quick with the boilerplate 'refusal to answer based on classified information' schtick. However, he always leaves a lingering suspicion with his "concerning questions still remain" follow up comment. And as if to solidify justification for an endless "investigation" Schiff ends with the obligatory 'we will go where the evidence leads us' line.
Now observe the response when their narrative is exposed. There is no classified information to protect because it's all been debunked in the press. There are no concerning questions because it's all been debunked in the press. And there's no further evidence to pursue because...you guessed it...it's all been debunked in the press.
It's the old defense lawyer trick. If you know there's about to be damaging information exposed - go on offense and discredit the process.

[Daily Caller] Adding further mystery to the "who knew what and when" question was the revelation on Thursday that Podesta testified to the Senate Intelligence Committee earlier this month that he was not aware of who paid for the dossier.
But Podesta happened to be sitting next to Marc Elias, the Perkins Coie lawyer who orchestrated the deal to pay opposition research firm Fusion GPS to conduct the investigation that led to the dossier. Elias was general counsel for the Clinton campaign and DNC. He is also Podesta’s attorney.
In his interview with Panetta, CNN’s Wolf Blitzer wondered why Elias did not inform Podesta during the Senate interview that he was involved in the dossier.
"It certainly makes the situation very awkward," Panetta responded.
"If you’re testifying and saying you have no knowledge and the attorney sitting next to you is one of those that knew what, what was involved here, I think it does raise an issue that the committee is going to have to look at and determine just exactly what knew what," he added. Emphasis added.

Former US Army Intelligence officer, Secretary of Defense, Director of the CIA, White House Chief of Staff, Director of the Office of Management and Budget, and as a U.S. Representative from California. Unable to connect the dots? Poor bastid must feel miserable.
Yes, let's keep it in the intelligence community for additional examination, testimony, and exploration. Everyone in Washington knows the 'memory hole' is your friend. Besides, we need as much additional time as possible to destroy evidence and lawyer up.
#3
Hillary's campaign dossier payments need to be looked at. A few RINOs are involved in this and they need to be included in this investigation. The DNC records need to be examined as well. The DNC email servers that the FBI never examined need to be obtained, if still available, and examined. Real investigations need to be initiated that can be trusted instead of the sham investigations used for cover-up under Comey.
Wonder if ValJar, Axelrod, and Mootch (plus maybe some old DNC Bernie supporters, except Seth Rich) aren't involved in the takedown somehow. They absolutely hated Hillary.
Obean himself doesn't have the bullocks to do this.

BLUF:
[The Hill] There has been progress toward future adoption of a VMT, which would charge drivers by the mile, not by a gallon of gas. The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) recently awarded $15 million collectively to six states to explore how best to implement such a plan.
A VMT system is also a much fairer method of collecting highway taxes. Today, someone who can afford a new Tesla pays almost nothing toward road repairs, while a family still driving an older, less fuel-efficient car or SUV pays far more than they should in gas taxes.
#1
VMT, yes it's only fair. We'll need to keep the gasoline tax and highway toll charges until our highway infrastructure is rebuilt and we're all caught up.
You people commuting to work from the country may have to move closer to the urban 'city state' areas. Urban clustering really is the future, you'll see.
#2
A gasoline tax is a decent proxy for vehicle usage, and wear and tear on the roads (perhaps better than mileage). Excepting electric vehicles of course.
#3
...I've always said that the hybrid and electric drivers were going to discover that if they thought gas was expensive before, wait till they find out how much it costs when they're not using it.

Roads cost money. Both to build and maintain. As much as I hate paying tolls at least they're "fair" in that they are based on use. But one thing I think we do need to do in this country is get away from the "build it as cheap as we can" attitude. When road or bridge work in high traffic volume areas I personally would rather see these projects get built to a higher standard. Yes it would cost more initially. But if it eliminates fixing problems from wear and tear as frequenctly as is the case now it would be cheaper in the long run. Just like a good pair of shoes is cheaper in the long run vs going to Shoes r Us for that cheap pair that wears out in 6 months. Now the time it takes to get these projects done is another matter. Contractors bidding on jobs when they already have more work than they can handle resulting in delays and jobs not being done on time.
#5
Doesn't make any difference. All money collected will be diverted just like the old money for political handouts. The roads and bridges will still collapse and fail. How about a huge tax for every word a politician utters?
#6
As cars have become more fuel efficient, the gas tax has failed to keep pace with rebuilding and maintaining our highways, roads and bridges, let alone the bike paths, nature trails and streetcars
Shows what happens when one part of the government is working against another part of the government (e.g. EPA vs. DOT) It also demonstrates what happens when the government politicizes the underlying science to favor political agendas.

VMT is also the camels nose under the tent of tracking all drivers all the time. Look at Europes proposals for their GPS system and how it could/would be used.

Loss of tax revenue from purchases of fuel for boats, gas operated lawn care equipment, heavy construction equipment, small planes, back up power generators, industrial forklifts and machinery, farm equipment food industry, the list goes on and on. Drivers out on the highway will be paying so much taxes to cover the shortfall because of brain dead political know nothings.

TJ8135, the folks around here only use their boats (or snow machines) for 3-4 months a year, leave the old gas in the tank over the winter, then wonder why boat doesn't run in the next spring.
Home generators, same thing only fuel is left in even longer. Whine bigly when the thing doesn't start during an outage.
Should be a 'leaving fuel in tank stupid fee' or something. Even that wouldn't cure anything, though.

If the gasoline tax is unfair because electric car owners don't contribute, then tax them by the mile and leave the rest of us alone.
[Breitbart] Buried under countless paragraphs of outright lies or those soon-to-be retracted "bombshells" from anonymous sources, the national media will sometimes slip in a variation of the only thing we know to be true in this matter: As of now there is no evidence President Trump colluded with the Russians to rig the 2016 presidential election.
The same can no longer be said for Hillary Clinton. Although her lackeys in the media are trying to tell us that "opposition research" is the usual-usual for presidential campaigns, the Clinton campaign paying Fusion GPS millions of dollars to fabricate dirt against Trump, is nothing even close to standard operating procedure. If it was, the Clinton campaign would not have spent a full year lying to everyone about their role in producing what is now widely known as The Discredited Anti-Trump Russian Dossier.
Before we get to the proof of Hillary colluding with Russia, we need to debunk off a few of the narrative-myths the liars in the mainstream media continue to hurl.

[NYPost] The Soviet Union theorized that President Lyndon B. Johnson could have been behind JFK’s assassination ‐ and also feared Moscow could be blamed and attacked, according to documents in a major release of files related to Kennedy’s slaying on Thursday.
The Dec. 1, 1966 FBI memo, which relayed unconfirmed speculation, noted that sources said the KGB "was in possession of data purporting to indicate President Johnson was responsible for the assassination of the late President John F. Kennedy." Article contains hyperlinks to documents.

The Kennedy brothers were Democrats but were assassinated by extreme leftists because they were too far to the right.
The Kennedy's weren't particularly right-wing for that period. On national security, they were making up for lost time. Note that Truman downplayed the Communist threat until the Korean War broke out. He could have avoided that problem in its entirety by continuing to provide material aid to Chiang Kai-shek, who ran out of gas as the Soviets opened the throttle on shipments to Mao. On domestic issues, they were fully of the left, starting with their attempt to make the US a mini-UN via the Hart-Cellar Act of 1965, which opened the floodgates to 3rd World immigration.
I don't fully understand the Right's infatuation with JFK. The guy was a left-wing dilettante who caused many of the problems that plague us today.

Hillary Clinton has brought hellfire down upon her own head by demanding a thorough and intensive investigation into purported Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
She is right, Americans should be appalled at the idea that Vladimir Putin and his thuggish operatives might gain a foothold in our body politic. She is right again that Moscow has aggressively tried to subvert our democracy.
But it turns out that it wasn’t Donald Trump who was complicit in those efforts but Hillary Clinton, husband Bill, and possibly her boss Barack Obama.
These stories have circulated for some time; now there is proof. The Hill has reported that beginning in 2009 "the FBI had gathered substantial evidence that Russian nuclear industry officials were engaged in bribery, kickbacks, extortion and money laundering designed to grow Vladimir Putin’s atomic energy business inside the United States."

...What I love about all of this is it shows, in Mount Rushmore-sized imagery, just how arrogant Hillary Rodham Clinton really, truly is. She and her handlers entered into all of this supremely confident that they were destined to waltz into the White House and never have to be concerned with it ever being revealed.
At the very first mention of the dossier, Trump was supposed to have gone into a defensive crouch that he'd never emerge from. The Republicans in Congress wouldn't have uttered a single word in his defense, and even if they had found out later that it was all false, they would have done nothing, and we know it. Hilary was going to be President, and it was probably better if we just accepted it.
It makes you wonder - the accounts we've seen so far say that it was maybe about two weeks before the election that Clinton's people started feeling a sense of impending doom. I think it was a lot earlier...when Trump didn't panic on the dossier reports. And by that point, they were so locked into their own expectations, they augered in with them.
Makes you wonder what a President Hilary would have done staring down an adversary who wasn't behaving the way she expected them to.

[NYPost] The deadly plague sweeping Madagascar may have a particularly gruesome cause — a local tradition of dancing with dead bodies.
Health officials suspect it’s no coincidence that the outbreak — which has infected more than 1,100 people and killed 124 since August — coincides with the time of year when families customarily exhume the remains of dead relatives, wrap them in a sheet, and dance with them through the streets in a sacred ritual, AFP reports.
“If a person dies of pneumonic plague and is then interred in a tomb that is subsequently opened for [the ritual], the bacteria can still be transmitted and contaminate whoever handles the body,” said Willy Randriamarotia, Madagascar’s health ministry chief of staff.

[IsraelTimes] Report says 2 suspects were conducting reconnaissance on house of prayer in Ahmedabad before being nabbed
Two men associated with the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... terror group were tossed in the clink Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try! in India for allegedly planning to attack a local synagogue.
The anti-terrorism squad in the western Indian state of Gujarat ...where rioting seems to be a traditional passtime... arrested the men, residents of the port city of Surat, on Wednesday. They are accused of planning to attack the synagogue in the Khadia area of Ahmedabad, the largest city in Gujarat.
The suspects did reconnaissance on the Magen Abraham synagogue on September 12 and were planning either an kaboom or shooting there, the Times of India reported. The men allegedly are IS operatives and reportedly had been in touch with an Indian IS handler based in Afghanistan.
One of the men was arrested at his workplace and the other at his home, according to the report. Law enforcement seized cellphones, laptops and other electronic devices from both locations.
The state anti-terrorism squad told the newspaper that the two men had been on their radar for some time and were taken into custody as they were preparing to carry out the attack. The men had planned to escape to Syria via Jamaica following the attack in order to join IS, anti-terrorism officials told the newspaper.
The men reportedly were trying to radicalize youths in India via social media and meetings.

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi troops have liberated several regions in western Anbar as part of the offensive launched earlier on Thursday to liberate the two Islamic State’s bastions in the province, military media said.
In a statement released, the Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said, “Al-Jazeera Operations liberated Rawa crossroads as well as al-Hasa, the residential complex of al-Hasa and al-Jibab region.”
Moreover, “troops tightened control on pivotal establishments and residential areas there,” the statement said, indicating troops’ ongoing advance.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a military source told AlSumaria News that Jibab region was freed after IS militants fled toward Qaim.
Early on Thursday, The Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi has announced launch of operations to liberate Qaim and Rawa towns.
Hundreds of thousands of messages were airdropped on Wednesday on the two towns informing civilians that security troops are coming to free them and urging them to stay away from the enemy.

[SportingNews] More bad news could be on the horizon for ESPN. Staffers at the Worldwide Leader in Sports are bracing for another possible round of layoffs late this year, multiple sources tell Sporting News.
The next round of cutbacks could come down in late November or early December, with 40-60 positions potentially being impacted, according to sources. The layoffs could hit both on-air TV/radio talent and behind-the-scenes production staffers.
"This time it won't matter if you're 'liked' or not. It's not going to be pretty," one source warned.
Another source expects the flagship "SportsCenter" franchise to lose people in front of and behind the camera. "I see (ESPN) going down a path where they have less staff ‐ and hire more production companies to provide programs and fill air time."
...
But ESPN is struggling from the triple-whammy of a shrinking subscriber base, expensive billion-dollar TV rights for the NFL, NBA and other sports, (which they cannot renegotiate - ed.)
and bloated talent costs. The network pays $1.9 billion annually for "Monday Night Football" and another $1.4 billion for the NBA. Don't forget ESPN is still paying millions of dollars in severance costs to many of the 100 anchors/reporters laid off in late April.
Depends on how Disney set ESPN up. If it's an independent financial agency (LLC), the bankruptcy court could redirect negotiations. At which time, other bidders can come forward. They already Detroitified the network and brand, why not go all the way.

As a Texas Aggie, the longhorn network thing has made ESPN loathsome before the SJW stuff. They signed a deal with texas university and tried to hog tie recruiting in with a deal to show high school football as a straw man for allowing representatives to talk to players about the tu program. When the UIL killed that, the only hope of the lhn to make money died with it. The tu folks hold on to the lhn and that prevents the Big-12 from having a conference network.
So seeing how shady the ESPN/tu connection was, I have no doubt the $50 million per year being paid to tu to broadcast two or three games played by a team that has not had a winning record in three years is fun to watch.

[AnNahar] The French army said Thursday it had eliminated an "armed terrorist group" linked to al-Qaeda in northern Mali, killing 15 jihadists.
Army front man Patrick Steiger said troops from La Belle France's regional Barkhane anti-terror operation carried out a joint strike against the group with French special forces about 100 kilometers (60 miles) northeast of Kidal.
The operation, backed by fighter jets and helicopters, took place overnight Monday.
It "allowed us to take 15 members of this katiba out of action", Steiger said, using a local word for a Death Eater unit.
The group was a branch of Ansar Dine ...a mainly Tuareg group that controlled areas of Mali's northern desert together with Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and MUJAO in early 2012... , which has links to the regional al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQMI) group, he added, saying weapons and ammunition including assault rifles and grenades were destroyed in the raid.
La Belle France has had some 4,000 soldiers deployed in the Sahel region ... North Africa's answer to the Pak tribal areas... -- a vast stretch of territory on the edge of the Sahara Desert -- since 2014.
The announcement in Gay Paree came as the Mali-based branch of al-Qaeda, Nusrat al-Islam wal Moslemeen, claimed an attack in the north that killed two soldiers.
U.S. monitoring group SITE said the claims were made on the Telegram messenger channel of the group's so-called al-Zallaqa Media Foundation.
The creation of Nusrat al-Islam wal Moslemeen was announced on March 2 as a fusion of Ansar Dine, the al-Murabitoun of Mokhtar Belmokhtar and the "Emirate of the Sahara," a branch of AQMI.

Issued a "fatwa against a UN Commission on the Status of Women's report because it urged governments to protect women and girls against violence" Aligned with the GNC govt... , said Wednesday in his weekly program on Tanasuh TV Channel that if the Libyan political stakeholders and official politicians had adopted the five points proposed by the Libyan Fatwa House regarding the controversial Article 08 of the Skhirat-signed agreement, they wouldn’t have needed to go to Tunisia talks.
The mufti explained that Tunis-held dialogue has turned out to be a failure as it did not touch upon the country, the people’s needs and the Libyan crisis. "It was a proxy dialogue in Tunisia for other countries’ sake," the mufti said, adding that Skhirat agreement is contradictory in itself and not well-crafted as promoted by its advocates.

[DAWN] The Ministry of Human Rights has decided to forward the Christian Marriage and Divorce Bill 2017 to the law ministry to be vetted, before it is forwarded to the cabinet.
The decision was made by Human Rights Minister Mumtaz Ahmed Tarar after a meeting with a delegation of Hindu and Christian community representatives.
Minister of State for Human Rights Barrister Usman Jamali, who also attended the meeting, read out several objections and amendments proposed by Christians that the ministry has received.
Meeting participants unanimously agreed that the Christian Divorce Act 1869 and the Christian Marriage Act 1870 need to be amended and upgraded.
The delegation included a Christian priest, lawyers, academics and civil society members, who recommended that the bill’s provisions should be in accordance with the Bible.
They asked for Christian marriage laws to be implemented at the provincial level, and the minister and state minister agreed that resolutions from the provinces would be sought to ensure that uniform laws are implemented across the country.
The minister was told by the delegation members that the draft Marriage and Divorce Bill has been finalised after a consensus among all segments of the Christian community, including churches of all the mainstream denominations.
The bill was finalised after several rounds of discussions among various segments of the Christian community and caters to current needs.
There are various lacunae in the 1870 act, including a provision that says a marriage can only be solemnised before sunset, as well as other issues that have become redundant with time. The draft also raises the marriageable age for the bride and groom from 16 to 18 years.

[Wash Times] Author Mark Steyn joked this week that investigations into President Trump’s possible "collusion" with Russia are like an absurd "high-concept thriller" in which he’s the only innocent party.
Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson and Mr. Steyn sat down Wednesday night to discuss revelations that an anti-Trump dossier created by the research firm Fusion GPS was partially funded by Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee. The author excoriated everyone but Mr. Trump when asked to put the news into its proper political context.
"Everyone is colluding with Russia except Trump," Mr. Steyn said, The Daily Caller reported. "You’ve got the Podesta Group, you’ve got the Hillary campaign, you’ve got the DNC, you’ve got the FBI, you’ve got Christopher Steele, who you credit as an ex-MI6 agent. He’s not just any old ex-MI6 agent, he’s the head of the Russia desk at MI6, which is a pretty big deal."
The dossier, first published by BuzzFeed News in January, was originally financed by an anonymous Republican, although Mr. Trump told reporters this week that he anticipates the individual’s identity will be made public.
"I have one name in mind," Mr. Trump said Wednesday. "It will probably be revealed."

[MAIL] A Bernie Sanders campaign organizer and long-time Democrat has filed a lawsuit today accusing the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Hillary Clinton of fraud and seeking access to their servers ‐ a move that his lawyer believes will solve the murder of DNC staff member Seth Rich.
Gary Frazier, an organizer with Black Men for Bernie and DNC contributor, claims that the DNC and Clinton committed fraud, negligence, and violated their charter as a non-profit, political organization during the 2016 presidential primary.
He also accuses the DNC of being negligent with his personal and financial information and making it vulnerable to hackers.
On June 14, 2016, the DNC database was compromised by Russian government hackers, security sources told the Washington Post. A Kremlin spokesman ruled out Russian involvement but day later, solo, anonymous hacker 'Guccifer 2.0' took credit for hacking the DNC database, saying it was 'very easy' on his website.

[BREITBART] In a contentious interview with BBC radio, Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, Governor Jerry Governor Moonbeam Brown ... those who ignore history are bound to repeat it ... has threatened to sue the Trump administration over climate change, while vowing to "stabilize the ship of state."
"The president is working to delegitimize the very notion of climate change," Brown told Jim Naughtie of the BBC in a program that aired Tuesday, while the position of California is to go "against the policies of President Trump."
"I hope the rest of the world does their part in providing a forceful opposition," he said.
"Trump has declared war on a majority of the American people under the guise of supporting his minority base and it’s very dangerous," Brown said. "It’s very disruptive for America, and I’m going to do everything I can to stabilize the ship of state."
The governor went on to say that the president uses the issue of global warming to "work" his constituency. "I think he sees this as a galvanizing rhetoric for his base," he said.

[DAWN] Pakistain has no information that Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA) chief Umar Khalid Khorasani was killed in a recent US dronezap, Defence Secretary Zamirul Hassan Shah told the Senate Standing Committee on Defence on Thursday.
Earlier this month, JuA front man Asad Mansoor had 'confirmed' to foreign news organizations that Khorasani had been killed in a US dronezap along with at least nine of his associates.
However, there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly... Shah, a retired Lt Gen, told the Senate committee that the news of Khorasani's death has not been verified, adding that a photograph of the JUA chief which had been issued along with news of his death "was a fake".
The secretary also said that there had been no US dronezap in Pak territory in the recent past.
A number of dronezaps had been reported in the Pak-Afghan border region between Oct 16 and Oct 20. On Oct 17, after five forces of Evil were killed in a US dronezap near Kurram Agency ...home of an intricately interconnected web of poverty, ignorance, and religious fanaticism, where the laws of cause and effect are assumed to be suspended, conveniently located adjacent to Tora Bora... , Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif had clarified that the attack had targeted forces of Evil along the Pak-Afghan border area and did not happen inside Pakistain's territory.

[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Pakistain’s foreign minister Khawaja Asif has said the Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... group and other turbans no more need the Pak land to use for their operations.
Speaking to the Pak Senate on Wednesday, Asif presented the deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan as a justification for his claim regarding the Lion of Islam group’s unwillingness to use the Pak soil.
He claimed that the ISIS terrorist group and Taliban forces of Evil have influence and control over 45 per cent of the soil of Afghanistan.
He also accused Afghanistan for acting as a controller for India and warned that this would never be acceptable for Pakistain.
According to Asif, the peace and stability in Pakistain has links with the peace and stability in Afghanistan, promising continued support of Pakistain in the fight against terror.
However, the hip bone's connected to the leg bone... he said Pakistain will never become someone’s proxy, apparently gesturing towards the US pressures to act against the Taliban and other terrorist groups.
The United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Tuesday visited Pakistain and met with the top Pak officials, including Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and reiterated President Trump’s message regarding the increased efforts needed by Pakistain to eradicate the murderous Moslems and turbans from its country.

[Townhall] I've already written about how today is Hillary Clinton's 70th birthday, and how last year she sent what is quite possibly the worst-aged tweet in the history of the platform.
Not to be outdone, Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) sent out a tweet wishing "Madame president" a happy birthday and tagging Hillary Clinton.
[Libya Observer] Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... is ready to welcome the eastern forces led by Khalifa Haftar ... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all... , said the front man of Haftar-led Dignity Operation, Ahmed al-Mismari.
In a presser on Wednesday, al-Mismari said he cannot elaborate on the western region as it has become a military zone, reaffirming that their forces are preparing for a massively important battle, which he said will be conclusive in the war on "terrorism."
"The dialogue committees of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State are part of prolonging Libya's financial, economic, health and services crises. Libya cannot be safe and secure except though the Libyan Arab armed forces, whose ability to create a state is respected by all." He indicated.
Al-Mismari also added that their forces are coordinating with Egypt to secure the joint borders to help undermine smuggling operations of IS bully boyz and weapons, adding that the nature of the Libyan-Egyptian border makes it easy to smuggle drugs, weapons and even IS terrorists.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... 's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman described the Gulf rift with Qatar ...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates... as a "very very small problem" in an interview on Thursday with Rooters at the Public Investment Forum in Riyadh.
Crown Prince Mohammed said that the current issue with Qatar did not affect investment and stressed that the leadership is committed to have the Kingdom safe, stable and far away from any disturbances.
"We are very committed to have our country safe, far away from any disturbance. I will say one thing, that the only country in the Middle East where that safety and stability track-record goes for Saudi Arabia," the Crown Prince said.
"Saudi Arabia has the best track-record and has proven itself strongly in each problem in the Middle East and the world and handled it and went on to be more powerful."
The Crown Prince added that the war in Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic... ongoing with a goal of preventing the transformation of the Houthi ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ... militias to a new Hezbollah on Saudi borders.
"We’re pursuing until we can be sure that nothing will happen there like Hezbollah again, because Yemen is more dangerous than Leb. It’s next to Bab al-Mandab so if something happens there, that means 10 percent of world trade stops. This is the crisis," he said.

""We are very committed to have our country safe, far away from any disturbance. I will say one thing, that the only country in the Middle East where that safety and stability track-record goes for Saudi Arabia,""
Well, but for you, Israel fit's that bill. But you are trying.
Damn, I hate Islam to it's core and false doctrine from hell.
Good luck Prince, I AM rooting for you. Don't let me down because right now......
[Townhall] In my earlier analysis of the latest dossier/collusion developments -- which have taken an abrupt turn in the last week, to the dismay of many liberals -- I wrote that newly-revealed and -confirmed details raise serious and uncomfortable questions for both the Democratic Party and the FBI. In a house editorial published today, the Wall Street Journal's editors explicate several of those questions that demand a full accounting. First, on the Democrats:
The Washington Post revealed Tuesday that the Hillary Clinton campaign and Democratic National Committee jointly paid for that infamous "dossier" full of Russian disinformation against Donald Trump. They filtered the payments through a U.S. law firm (Perkins Coie), which hired the opposition-research hit men at Fusion GPS. Fusion in turn tapped a former British spook, Christopher Steele, to compile the allegations, which are based largely on anonymous, Kremlin-connected sources. Strip out the middlemen, and it appears that Democrats paid for Russians to compile wild allegations about a U.S. presidential candidate. Did someone say "collusion"? This news is all the more explosive because the DNC and Clinton campaign hid their role, even amid the media furor after BuzzFeed published the Steele dossier in January. Reporters are now saying that Clinton campaign officials lied to them about their role in the dossier. Current DNC Chair Tom Perez and former Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz deny knowing about the dossier arrangement, but someone must have known. Perhaps this explains why Congressional Democrats have been keen to protect Fusion from answering dossier questions‐disrupting hearings, protesting subpoenas and deriding Republican investigators.
Are Perez and Wasserman Schultz's denials credible? As a New York Times reporter notes, Democratic dollars that flowed to Fusion GPS and Steele were effectively laundered through a law firm -- but they were still coming out of DNC coffers:
[AnNahar] At least eight soldiers were killed in heavy fighting when Boko Haram ... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality... raided a military camp and looted food from villagers in northeast Nigeria ... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border... , a military source disclosed on Thursday.
The attack in Sasawa village, some 45 kilometers (28 miles) from the Yobe state capital, Damaturu, happened at about 5:00 pm (1600 GMT) on Tuesday.
It was the third Boko Haram attack on the military in the remote region in the last two weeks, after a relative lull during the rainy season, which ended last month.
The front man for 3 Division Nigerian Army in Damaturu, Colonel Kayode Ogunsanya, on Wednesday confirmed the attack, saying only that there were "casualties on both sides".
But a military commander in the city said the corpse count had risen.
"So far we lost eight men in the Boko Haram terrorist attack on the 233 Battalion in Sasawa village: seven soldiers and the field officer," he told AFP on condition of anonymity.
"Their bodies have been recovered. But many others are still missing. It is not clear whether they are dead or alive."
- Looting -
Boko Haram attacks on military bases were a frequent tactic as the group gained in size and strength, using the weapons and ammunition seized to capture swathes of territory.
But such attacks and hit-and-run raids on remote villages reduced drastically after 2014, as a military counter-offensive was launched.
The government in Abuja maintains the fight-back has left the jihadists a spent force.
Yet sporadic strikes -- and suicide kabooms against civilian "soft" targets such as mosques and camps for the displaced -- indicate the group remains a threat.
A local chief in the Sasawa area said the jihadists arrived in six pickup trucks and stormed the military encampment, triggering a shootout that lasted for six hours.
"When the button men realised they would be subdued, they sent for reinforcements and more fighters arrived in three trucks," he said, asking to remain anonymous for fear of reprisals.
They overran the base, forcing the soldiers to withdraw. Rebel fighters then moved into the village, which had been deserted by residents to escape the fighting.
Another local resident, Aisami Gremah, supported the chief's account.
He added: "They (Boko Haram) loaded grains from the recent harvest into the pick-up trucks and moved towards Kareto and Magumeri in neighbouring Borno state."
Crops that had been left out to dry on farms outside nearby Tungushe village were set on fire, he said.
[HBRENESBLOGSPO] Marburg virus disease in Uganda was made known on October 17, 2017. The Ugandan ministry of health notified WHO of a confirmed outbreak of Marburg virus disease in Kween district, eastern Uganda. The ministry of health officially declared the outbreak on 19 October 2017
[FOX] The crazed gunman who killed 58 people at a country music festival in Las Vegas was wealthy, had worked for the government in several previous jobs, owned properties in several states and bought 33 firearms in the last year, officials said. Purchased in the run-up to the election. Probably just a coincidence.
Investigators piecing together 64-year-old Stephen Paddock's life found he worked for the Internal Revenue Service and as an auditor for defense contracts. But Paddock apparently started his government service via a far more humble route: working two years as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service from 1976-1978. That appears to overlap with his time at Cal State Northridge, from which he graduated in 1977. Oh wait! Wrong photo. Same motive ?

Yes, we knew (on our radar) he was a nut job and purchasing lots of weapons. We could have stopped him at Kroger, but we wanted to get everybody together with plenty of media coverage for the actual take down.

Given that Obean's Fast and Furious was about arms flow to Mexico (mainly by the Feds), you'd think 33 weapons in a year would have cause some notice at the ATF. I'm sure the Mexican consulate would be interested in the explanation.

There is far too much weird stuff surrounding this case
Indeed. One bit of weirdness that caught my eye: A break-in at the shooter's house: According to authorities, a number of unidentified individuals descended on Paddock's home in the Del Webb retirement community just outside Reno, bypassing both state and federal law enforcement who were assigned to protect the property.
Local law enforcement says it's not clear how the group got into the home, which is supposed to be under round-the-clock surveillance, and they do not have any suspects — but they also believe nothing was taken from inside the home, as the home was left completely undamaged.
So, a team of people break into a crime scene while the cops have it under surveillance. The place is *not* ransacked. No idea if anything was taken. Or left. Tell me that doesn't stink. (or that I'm trapped in the plot of the next Dan Brown novel)
[ALMASDARNEWS] Syrian Arab Army (SAA) entered the Ummal District of Deir Ezzor after advancing from the nearby Industrial Zone, a military source told al-Masdar News.
Led by the elite Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army entered the Ummal District after overrunning the front-lines of the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. Once Tiger Forces entered the Ummal District, they quickly seized the municipal post office and imposed fire control over the al-Safa Mosque.
According to the military source, the Syrian Army is pushing towards the municipal stadium in a bid to encircle the strategic Old Airport District, which is considered one of the Islamic State’s last strongholds in Deir Ezzor.
From Iraqi News: Syrian regulars, rebels attack ISIS positions in Deir Ezzor
Deir Ezzor (Syria News) Syrian Democratic Forces militia (SDF) launched, on Thursday, an extensive assault on the Islamic State strongholds, north of Deir Ezzor, sources told Qasioun News.
The sources informed that the Syrian Democratic Forces attacked and recaptured the Islamic State-held village of Rabidah, west of the Khabour River, in addition to some parts of Jdaidat Akidat Village, north of the Euphrates River, located in the northern countryside of Deir Ezzor.
Furthermore, the Syrian army forces, backed by the Lebanese Hezbollah militia, retook the T2 base and Kam Oil Field, based on an agreement with the Islamic State militia, the sources added.
It is noteworthy that the Islamic State militia has recently lost its biggest and largest strongholds in Syria, and withdrew to the city of Albukamal and its outskirts, east of Deir Ezzor.
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has liberated Saqr Island in Deir Ezzor this afternoon, following a 15 hour operation against the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... (ISIS) that began last night.
Led by the elite Tiger Forces, the Syrian Army advanced from the recently liberated Industrial District and its corresponding dock, entering Saqr Island from its western flank.
Once the Tigers crossed the Euphrates and entered Saqr Island, the remaining Islamic State turbans attempted to hold their posts near Central Park, but were ultimately forced to withdraw.
With Saqr Island’s liberation today, the Syrian Arab Army has now successfully secured the Industrial District and taken control of one of the Islamic State’s largest supply hubs.
Deir Ezzor (Syria News) Informed sources informed, on Thursday, that the Syrian army forces had taken the village of Hawija Sukkar, in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, Qasioun News reported.
The sources revealed that Syrian army forces recaptured Hawija Sukkar Village, in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, after battles with the Islamic State group
The army forces chased the Islamic State fighters in the area, the sources explained. Several members of the Islamic State group were either killed or wounded during the clashes.
The Syrian army and its allied militias inflicted heavy human and material losses on the Islamic State group in the vicinity of Jafra Village, east of Deir Ezzor.
Earlier today, Syrian regime has announced completely recapturing the city of Ma’dan, on the southern bank of the Euphrates River, located between the provinces of Deir Ezzor and Raqqa.

[All Africa] Senator Prince Y. Johnson (MDR, NIMBA) Standard Bearer of the Movement for Democratic Reconstruction today endorsed the candidacy of football legend-turned Senator George Manneh Weah, dealing a major blow to Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai's bid to succeed Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.
The next government, he said would needs to stop the importation of rice and invest in mechanized farming in order to make our country self-reliant in food production. "I know that no one party can solve all these problems alone. That is why we must all join in to make the Liberian dream a reality. We must also continue to promote the doctrine of freedom of speech and civil liberties for all Liberians and strangers within our borders. WE must lend our support to elect that government that will be "for the people, of the people and by the people"!
Senator Johnson said he was grateful to the Almighty God for the peaceful conduct of the October 10, 2017 General Elections of which he was a candidate for the Presidency and hailed the National Elections Commission and the Liberian people for their strong commitment to peace and democracy.
In the June 2009 final report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission(TRC), which was established as part of the 2003 peace deal, the TRC recommended Johnson's inclusion on a list of 50 people who should be "specifically barred from holding public offices; elected or appointed for a period of thirty (30) years" for "being associated with former warring factions."
Johnson labelled the recommendation a "joke," noting the absence of several other combatants from the list, and vowed to resist any charges brought as a result of the report.
Johnson finished fourth in the just-ended first round after securing 127,666 votes for 8.2 percent. It remains to be seen how much his backing of Weah, who won the first round with 596,037 votes for 38.4 percent, will impact the run-off. This is the very same Prince Johnson who tortured the late President Samuel Doe to death and videotaped it. He and Charles Taylor and a few other bad guyz then proceeded to tear Liberia apart in a vicious civil war that went on for what felt like forever but only stretched from 1989 through 1997 and resulted in the rule of Chuck Taylor and the death of about a quarter million people....

[Express] NORTH Korea labelled Donald Trump a "lunatic" and warned that his visit to the South will mean war in a chilling threat to the President.
The Hermit Kingdom has long threatened violence against the President and the US, once claiming they would wipe the America "off the face of the earth".
Now a statement from state propaganda mouthpiece KCNA has warned Trump could "bring a war to the Korean peninsula" by visiting South Korea next month.
They went on to praise protests in the South against Trump’s visit, telling clueless citizens that people marched in the streets opposing the US President.
But images from the protests show groups of no more than 10 people taking part in the rallies, which used slogans coined by Kim Jong-Un’s regime.
The KCNA missive also branded the US President a "war maniac" and a "lunatic".
Trump could enter North Korea in a direct provocation to Kim Jong-un if he visits the DMZ during his trip to Seoul next month.
Local news reports have suggested the US president could visit the heavily fortified border which it is feared North Korea will view as a threat.
Despite rising tensions between the neighbours the DMZ remains a popular destination that sees many tourists technically passing into North Korea by entering a hut where the armistice was signed.
In 1983 President Ronald Reagan, who Trump has long admired, took a tour of the area.
Now there have been calls for Trump to carry out the provocative trip as a show of strength.
But concerns have been raised the move could provoke retaliation from the isolated dictatorship amid soaring tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
Sue Mi Terry, a former Korea analyst, said: "They're seeing almost everything as a threat.
"They already see him as a very provocative person.
"Anything that he does will be continually seen that way."
The 160-mile long border divides the Korean peninsula from coast to coast.
It is one of the most built up military borders in the world with a million soldiers standing guard, millions of landmines and conventional artillery.
Former assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Russel said: "The DMZ functions as a kind of amplifier.
"The message takes on a more martial and ominous tone when it comes out of a military command post on North Korea’s doorstep." imo, the only way President Trump should visit to the DMZ is as the victorious Commander-in-Chief.

Collapsing Like a punctured balloon! Those who blamed Trump are being revealed for who they are. If nothing comes of this, it will show the justice system for what it has become in recent years--a corrupted system made up of two different systems of justice; one for elites and another for the rest of us.
... we get more Trump. In the meantime, President Trump has significantly reduced regulations and executive branch staffing and spending, hamstrung Obamacare, tee'd up literal Constitution judges to fill empty seats at all levels of the federal judiciary, put Republican politicians on notice that they will have to choose between working with him and retiring, and forced Democratic politicians to choose between working with him -- to Democratic voter disapproval -- or moving far to the left to placate their remaining core constituencies -- a position that will reduce their appeal in any but the safest of districts/states.
[FOXNEWS] The White House has named a Treasury official to succeed John Koskinen at the helm of the IRS ...the Internal Revenue Service; that office of the United States government that collects taxes and persecutes the regime's political enemies... next month, while allowing the controversial commissioner to finish out his five-year term.
David Kautter will serve as acting IRS commissioner beginning Nov. 13, the last day of Koskinen’s term, the White House said.
"Assistant Secretary Kautter has had an illustrious 40-year career in tax policy, and I am confident that the IRS and the American people will benefit from his experience and insight," Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a statement, noting the Senate would still have to confirm a permanent commissioner.
The announcement came as the Trump Justice Department settled lawsuits with Tea Party and other conservative groups targeted for extra scrutiny by officials in the Obama IRS.
Koskinen was brought in to lead the agency in the wake of that scandal, but Republicans criticized him for an allegedly slow response. GOP politicians for months had called on Trump to remove Koskinen before the end of his five-year term.

Koskinen and Lerner are cowardly feather merchants who were likely backstopped at the highest levels of the government. They were simply following orders.
They will never be prosecuted. To do so would reveal their Kenyan benefactor. This will not be permitted.

The IRS is the agency everyone loves to hate. It is the lifeblood of the Deep State.
The IRS has had 7 Commissioners in slightly over 10 years. Some have been acting commissioners. Some have held office only a short time. The turnover has created turmoil. The weaponization of the IRS by the last administration ruined any reputation the IRS might have had.
[All Africa] Kenyans from various parts of the country have woken up early to vote in the repeat presidential election, reports the Daily Nation. Opposition leader Raila Odinga, who is boycotting the poll, yesterday urged his supporters not to vote - but several journalists have photographed his name on the ballot paper and posted it on Twitter. Al Jazeera correspondents are reporting that some polling stations are closed and that others have not received ballot papers.

[DAWN] RARE is the minister who goes to parliament and briefs its members in a candid manner. On Wednesday, Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif briefed the Senate on US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s trip to Pakistain and, in speaking with clarity and authority, demonstrated once again what had been missing in the Foreign Office for over four years. Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf, then by the courts... ’s decision to not appoint a full-time foreign minister was one of the more perplexing mistakes of his third term. Mr Asif’s comments in the Senate, however, painted a picture of a Pakistain-US relationship that is deeply strained, rejecting the Trump administration strategy in the region as a creation of the US military and responding to a list of alleged forces of Evil that the US handed over to Pakistain by reminding the Senate that Pakistain has presented its own list to Afghanistan.
If there is a US South Asia strategy that is emerging, it appears to involve the US, Afghanistan and India acting together to put pressure on Pakistain to do more in the fight against militancy, inside Pakistain and regionally. To push back against the unfair or unrealistic aspects of that strategy, Pakistain ought to consider drawing up its own South Asia strategy: a coordinated approach towards the US, Afghanistan and India, recognising the interconnectedness of its ties with them. The strategy should also be proactive, suggesting what steps Pakistain can take and what it needs those countries to do for the interests of all to better align. Currently, it appears that Pakistain complains to the US about India and Afghanistan, lectures Afghanistan on India and lets bilateral problems with the latter interfere with the necessary dialogue that needs to occur on Afghanistan. That has the collective effect of achieving very little in terms of advancing Pakistain’s interests in the region, leaving it vulnerable to concerted pressure from the US, India and Afghanistan.
A South Asia strategy by Pakistain would necessarily entail a domestic dimension too. As the foreign minister has acknowledged before, Pakistain continues to have the problem of some bully boy and krazed killer groups being able to operate relatively openly here. Peace and stability in the region will not be established on a piecemeal basis involving one country at a time. If Afghanistan is unstable and denied peace, there are always likely to be spillover effects in Pakistain. If certain groups are allowed to operate on Pak soil, the dialogue with India risks being derailed by regional spoilers. If India continues to see Pakistain’s western border as a weakness to be exploited, Pakistain will be unable to broaden its fight against militancy, which is currently focused on anti-Pakistain bully boys. Simply, if Pakistain is to be stable and peaceful over the long term, Afghanistan and India must reassess their policies towards this country and vice versa.

[PJ] The implications from this week's revelation -- that the DNC and the Hillary Clinton campaign financed former British spy Christopher Steele's unverified dossier of alleged connections between the Trump campaign and Russia -- continue to expand.
But given this revelation, it's important to revisit what we already know.
The FBI used the DNC/Clinton-funded dossier to obtain surveillance warrants targeting the Trump campaign from the top-secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. At the time, the FBI was led by then-director James Comey:
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] At least seven Taliban ...Arabic for students... bully boyz were killed during a joint operation of the Afghan security and Special Operations Forces in central Maidan Wardak province of Afghanistan.
The provincial police commandment said the military commission chief of the group was also among those killed and at least five others were maimed.
The police commandment in a statement said the operations were conducted in Deh Afghanan village and Qala-e-Ziarat located in the center of the province.
The statement further added that the Taliban leader killed during the operation has been identified as Qari Noor Aqa who was actively in charge of the group’s military commission in this province.
According to Maidan Wardak police commandment, at least 50 Taliban bully boyz have been killed or maimed during the operations of the Afghan forces in this province during the past one month.

Not long after launching their assault, the Iraqi Armed Forces imposed full control over the H-2 Airbase and several villages, killing scores of Islamic State turbans in the process.
With the Islamic State pocket south of al-Qa’im nearly cleared, the Iraqi Armed Forces should be able to reach the aforementioned city in the coming days.

[PRESSTV] A United Nations ...where theory meets practice and practice loses... independent expert has warned that three recent rounds of international sanctions on North Korea over its missile and nuclear tests could affect the country’s ordinary citizens.
"I am concerned with the possibility that these sanctions might have a negative impact on vital economic sectors, and therefore, a direct consequence on the enjoyment of human rights One man's rights are another man's existential threat. ," UN Special Rapporteur Tomas Quintana said Thursday.
Quintana, speaking to members of the UN General Assembly's human rights committee, said bans on delivery of vital aid items to North Korea have made it more difficult for human rights workers to help people in need in North Korea, especially those affected by serious illnesses and the disabled.
"History shows us that sanctions can have a devastating impact on the civilian population," he said, adding that human rights staff in North Korea have also had problems carrying out financial transactions due to banking sanctions imposed on the country.

Bombing of Germany and Japan circa '43-'45 could affect ordinary citizens too. Sometime you have to go through a lot of people to get to those in charge, or in the case of Ceausescu, the people take care of the problem themselves.

That events at a national level would also affect individual citizens is a penetrating geopolitical insight worthy of the finest minds of our generation.
[PRESSTV] Fearless Leader of the Islamic Revolution ...Iran's doddering head theocrat... Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei ...the successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and the actual dictator of Iran... has called on neighboring Iraq to remain vigilant in the face of American plots, warning that the US is not trustworthy.
In a Thursday meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi in Tehran, the Leader expressed Iran’s support for the Iraqi government’s efforts to develop ties with regional states.
Ayatollah Khamenei, however, advised the Iraqi nation to remain "cautious about the Americans’ deceptions, and never put trust in them."
"The Americans created ISIS [Takfiri ...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed... terrorists] themselves, but now that the Lions of Islam have been defeated by the Iraqi government and people, they pretend to be supportive of this important development," the Leader said.
"However, if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning... they will undoubtedly not hesitate to harm Iraq again if they find the opportunity," the Leader added.

[PRESSTV] Iran has rejected a recent report by a UN rights rapporteur, saying it has failed to take into account US sanctions on Tehran and thousands of victims of terrorist attacks in the Islamic Theocratic Republic.
On Wednesday, Asma Jahangir, the UN special rapporteur on the Iran human rights When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much... situation, submitted a report to the world body, condemning alleged harassment of journalists and torture.
Jahangir said she had not assessed the impact of sanctions on human rights in Iran as she was not allowed to visit the country.
Hassan Nejad, Iran’s envoy to the UN Human Rights Council, said on Thursday that Jahangir’s report had portrayed "a flawed and distorted image" of Iran.
The report, he said, had turned a blind eye to illegal and unilateral US sanctions against the Iranians and 17,000 victims of terrorism in the country.
"The only determining power for support of human rights in Iran is the Iranians themselves and there is no room for outsiders," Nejad said.
