Juli Briskman, Finger Warrior Who Beat Republican Incumbent
Washington (AFP) ‐ A cyclist who was fired after flipping the bird - making a rude single-fingered gesture ‐ to US President Donald Trump's motorcade has been elected to local office in Virginia.
Juli Briskman, whose one-handed salute was captured in an AFP photograph that went viral, beat the Republican incumbent to a seat on the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors in state elections that saw Trump's Republican party suffer a series of stinging defeats.

The single mother of two teens lost her job as a marketing analyst for a United States government and military subcontractor after the snapshot of her gesture spread across media and the internet in 2017, bringing her insults and threats.

But getting fired also opened "a lot of doors"
no doubt
, the 52-year-old told AFP during her campaign, including accepting an invitation to run for local office on the Democratic ticket.

That decision paid off on Tuesday night, as Briskman celebrated her victory in a tweet that linked to a copy of the image.

"Looking forward to representing my friends & neighbors in #Algonkian District who backed me up today! So proud that we were able to #FlipLoudoun," she wrote.

With 52 percent of the vote after 99 percent of precincts had reported, the result saw Republican Suzanne Volpe beaten into second place.

Army Publishes 16-Year Modernization Plan to Outpace China With New Battle Concept
[Epoch Times] As the U.S. Army hunkered down for the war on terror, phrases such as "counter-insurgency" and "IEDs" became familiar to most Americans, along with the "shock and awe" introduced during the earlier Gulf War.

But now, if Army modernizers have read the runes right, two new phrases are set to dominate the future of U.S. warfare: "Multi-Domain Operations" and "Great Power Competition."

Those ideas lie at the heart of the 16-year Army Modernization Strategy recently published by the newly-minted Army Futures Command.

As the U.S. Army mastered the art of counter-insurgency in the dusty plains of Helmand Province and the streets of Baghdad’s Green Zone, and the world entered the age of the iPhone, China and Russia were working on ambitious strategies that harnessed the latest technology from the ground up.

In the past 15 years, China quietly tripled its annual military spending to an estimated $200 billion, with a clear focus on leveraging the latest developments such as artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and hypersonic missiles to unbalance the U.S. military.

It was one of the reasons I voted for him. Do you still think I am a bot? Will you start calling me comrade? This Russia mania is ridiculous. We need to patch it up with Russia, as our brilliant POTUS suggested. We need to cut China off at the knees, economically. It is my fondest hope that he will do so. That will avoid a devastating conflict they are building to. Trump, much maligned, for world peace.

#4  The rings did not weather well in Utah.
The loading propellant process for the solid fuel booster has a load procedure then a packing/compression cycle, with repeat. The compression forms variable density gradients in the fuel mix. More chloride makes for more O2 and a faster flash burn ergo more pressure. Firing of a fuel compression density ring coincident with a brittle cylinder gasket caused the blowout.

#5  Washington Examiner - Rush Limbaugh: Alleged whistleblower 'looks like the pajama boy in the Obama ad'

Limbaugh, 68, reading excerpts from the RealClearInvestigation report, said: "Federal documents reveal that the 33-year-old Ciaramella, a registered Democrat held over from the Obama White House," Limbaugh said. "Why the hell was he still there? What do you mean, 'held over'? This guy — I’ve probably seen this guy there. I’ve been to the Oval Office two or three times since Trump’s been president. I’ve been in the West Wing. I’ve probably seen this guy slithering around. It never even registered. Next time I go, I’m gonna keep a sharp eye for people I think might be John Brennan holdover plants, ’cause they’re obviously slithering all over the place."

The radio host argued that Ciaramella was allied with Joe Biden, who was vice president when Ciaramella worked at the White House, and John Brennan, CIA director at the time of Ciaramella being detailed there and subsequently a fierce critic of Trump.

Limbaugh said of Ciaramella: "This guy was involved from the get-go, starting in 2016, doing John Brennan’s bidding from the West Wing on furthering the whole Trump-Russia collusion operation of which there wasn’t one! As per the esteemed Robert J. Mueller XIV or whatever Robert J. Mueller he is."

Ciaramella was evidently appointed just prior to Soetoro leaving office.

DOJ Makes Jaw-Dropping Admission in Flynn Case – Prosecution “Mistakenly” Attributed Wrong Notes to Wrong FBI Agents….
[The Last Refuge]
Prosecutor Brandon Van Grack sends a letter to Flynn’s defense team today containing a stunning, almost impossible to comprehend, admission of a mistake central to the claims of the prosecution. In March 2018 the FBI presented notes taken by agents Pientka and Strzok, now they say they made a ‘mistake’.

For almost two years the DOJ misidentified, misattributed, and never corrected that the authors of the Flynn interview notes were actually reversed. All of the notes attributed to FBI Agent Peter Strzok actually were taken by FBI Agent Joseph Pientka, and vice-versa:

Link to letters

What kind of f**kery is this? The DOJ never confirmed the authorship of the FBI notes that are central to the FD-302, upon which the entire prosecution claim of Flynn lying to investigators is based? …Seriously?

The entire FBI case against Flynn; meaning the central element that he lied to FBI investigators (he didn’t); is predicated on the FD-302 interview reports generated by the two FBI agents; later discovered to have been edited, shaped and approved by Andrew McCabe…. And for almost two years the entire outline of their documented evidence has been misattributed?

C’mon man. This is sketchy as heck.

Obviously what triggered this re-review of the notes was a smart sur-surreply from the defense that highlighted how Peter Strzoks notes were far too neat, organized and well constructed to have been written during an actual interview. [SEE HERE]

For the prosecution to now reverse course and say the agent attribution was transposed, is either the biggest screw-up in a high profile case…. OR, the prosecution now needs to reverse the note-takers due to the exact, and common sense, reasons highlighted by the defense.

This is so far beyond sketchy the light from where sketchy emanates won’t reach this sketchy location for a year.

This ain’t no ordinary ‘whoops, my bad‘…. move along, move along folks.

So the prosecution didn’t change authorship of the individual FD-302 reports, but now changes authorship of the agent notes that underwrite the FD-302 reports?

Sorry, I ain’t buying what they’re selling.

Hopefully, at the very least, Judge Sullivan requests Agent Strzok and Agent Pientka to appear in his court and asks them to swear to the authorship. This is nuts.

Arabia
WWE Stars 'Held Hostage' On Saudi Arabia Plane By MbS
[Telegraph] WWE stars 'held hostage' on Saudi Arabia plane after dispute with crown prince, reports claim.

WWE wrestlers were "held hostage" in Saudi Arabia and stopped from boarding flights back to the US in a row over payment, according to reports.

Nearly 200 stars of the Smackdown brand and their entourage were ordered to wait on the tarmac for six hours at Riyadh International by Saudi's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, The Mirror reported.

The prince, or MBS as he is nicknamed, was allegedly furious that Vince McMahon, World Wrestling Entertainment’s chief executive, had cancelled the live feed of the show "Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia" because the company was owed up to $500m (£390m) for two shows in the kingdom last year.

The delay meant the wrestlers missed a live show in Buffalo, New York, the following day - with the no-show being blamed on "mechanical issues" that stopped their 747 plane leaving Riyadh.

Dave Meltzer, a US sports journalist, tweeted on Friday: "Some notes since nobody can say anything. WWE had a problem in Saudi Arabia.

"Talent was not allowed to leave on their flight and most are still there. Twenty people, twelve of which were talent, have left but the rest are still there."

Some – including Mr McMahon and stars such as Hulk Hogan and Tyson Fury – managed to get out on their own private jets.
Cheap bastards could've easily given nearly everyone a lift then ?
Mr Meltzer told the radio station, Wrestling Observer, that tensions grew when military police were sent to the airport in the capital Riyadh.

He said: "The talent felt they were hostages… nobody was harmed or anything like that. It's a really tense story."
Ever seen a 7 foot tall, 3 foot wide pro wrestler shiver in the sun ?
Former WWE announcer Hugo Savinovich posted a video on Facebook saying the reason for the flight delay was Saudi retaliation for the live feed being pulled by WWE.

WWE on Friday confirmed that wrestlers including Karl Anderson and Brian Myers, both of whom compete on "Raw," sat on the tarmac for six hours ‐ but blamed the late take-off on "mechanical issues."

The plane's owner, Atlas Air, issued a similar statement, adding that "the aircraft is being repaired and will be inspected and certified before returning to service."

Wrestlers that had been left waiting on the runway vowed never to go back. Wrestler Karl Anderson said on Twitter: "Couldn't pay me enough to go back..well, that's not true, I need a second pool, so…"

WWE launched in Saudi Arabia in 2014, with two to four shows a year in the desert kingdom.

The contests have have been held in the wake of the murder of Jamal Khashoggi,
...who was simultaneously a very well paid Washington Post columnist and a long time propagandist for the Muslim Brotherhood and Al Qaeda — most recently for Qatar, but in the past at the behest of Saudi Arabia’s intel chief, Prince Turki al-Faisal...
a dissident journalist, in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul last year.
How this last is relevant, only the journo knows. It's all 'in the wake' of Khashoggi in the same way as we're all living in the wake of Noah's flood.

Democrats win control of Virginia statehouse
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) ‐ The Latest on Virginia’s legislative elections (all times local):

10 p.m.

Virginia Democrats are taking full control of the statehouse for the first time in more than two decades.

Democrats won majorities in both the state House and Senate in Tuesday’s legislative election. This is the third election in a row that Virginia Democrats have made significant gains since President Donald Trump was elected.

The win will give Democrats control of the legislature and governorship for the first time in 26 years. Democrats have pledged to pass new gun restrictions and raise the minimum wage once in power.

Virginia is the only state with legislative elections this year where partisan control was up for grabs. Much of the contest centered on how voters feel about Trump and his possible impeachment.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran Never Intended To Comply With Iran Nuclear Deal
True. Nor did the Obama coterie need them to, so long as they had a region-changing “historic agreement” to point to.
[Victory Girls] Iran never intended to comply with the Iran Deal. Forty years to the day that Iranians stormed the U.S. Embassy and took Americans hostage, Iran announced it will start injecting uranium gas into one thousand or more centrifuges.

"President Hassan Rouhani said in a televised address that 1,044 machines at the Fordow nuclear facility, which is built inside a mountain near the city of Qom, will be activated with the gas beginning on Wednesday.

Under the Obama-era accord, Iran can spin the centrifuges without gas.

But Rouhani, noting that this action like all others it has taken so far is reversible, said the Islamic Republic will follow the pact’s guidelines when the remaining signatories ‐ France, Britain, Germany, the European Union, Russia and China ‐ honor their commitments.

"We know their sensitivity with regard to Fordow. With regard to these centrifuges, we know. But at the same time when they uphold their commitments we will cut off the gas again ... So it is possible to reverse this step," Rouhani said. "We can’t unilaterally accept that we completely fulfill our commitments and they don’t follow up on their commitments.""

In other words, once everyone falls into line, then we’ll stop rebuilding our nuclear program. Do you believe that? You shouldn’t. I don’t.

Rouhani was very strategic with his announcement. He specifically chose November 4. Why? As noted above, forty years ago, our embassy was seized and fifty two Americans were held hostage for 444 days. His announcement, along with the protests yesterday, was a strategic slam against Trump for backing out of the deal.

DOJ says executive branch witnesses MUST be allowed to bring lawyers
[Right Scoop] The DOJ has published a new memo explaining that Democratic House committees investigating Trump’s impeachment MUST allow White House attorney’s present or the testimonies will be legally invalid:

It’s sad that the DOJ would need to put something like this in a memo because it’s common sense that the White House would need to protect executive privilege. Schiff thinks he’s going to win the argument by calling this “obstruction of justice”, but anyone with common sense will see through this. I say that knowing that there are many people out there whose hatred of Trump overrides their common sense.

Regarding Bolton skipping his appearance, rumors that he’s going to show up later this week aren’t true:

#1  Impeachment is not a 'legal' process but a political one, and the power to set the rules for it is vested in the House, so it could be argued that there is no legal right to a lawyer - or that there is. It would probably have to go to the Supreme Court, where Roberts would have to decide whether his personal secrets were more important than impeachment processes...

#11  Democrats claim

That’s nice. There are procedures for that.

Matt Bevin won't concede after Andy Beshear wins by less than 1% in Kentucky governor's race

[WCPO] Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin says he won't concede defeat to Democratic challenger Andy Beshear in one of the closest political races in history with a margin of 5,150 votes - 0.36% of more than 1.4 million counted, according to the unofficial tally.

Bevin told supporters Tuesday night that the process needs to be followed in such a close race - an apparent reference to Kentucky's three options for trying to overturn the outcome. Bevin knows the process because his opponent challenged his 2015 Republican primary victory.

There is no mandatory recount in Kentucky, but a candidate can go to court and sue for it.

So depending on whether Governor Bevin chooses a recanvass of the voting machine to make sure the counts were reported accurately, a recount of the votes themselves, or an election contest, we’ll know within ten days what will be done, if not how long it will take.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Leading Democrats Call for Conditioning Military Aid to Israel
[Free Beacon] Three leading Democratic presidential candidates recently endorsed a new policy regarding U.S. military aid to Israel: It should be conditioned on Israel embracing policies toward the Palestinians favored by American progressives.

At the J Street conference last week, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) demanded that Israel "fundamentally change" its approach to terrorist-controlled Gaza, adding, "I think it is fair to say that some [U.S. military aid to Israel] should go right now into humanitarian aid in Gaza." Israeli officials believe such moves would enable Hamas to import more weapons and lead to another war. South Bend, Ind., mayor Pete Buttigieg
... former presidential candidate and future former mayor. His husband must be a bit concerned that it’s his turn to support them both in the style to which a former McKinsey consultant is entitled to be accustomed...
called for cutting aid if Israel annexes the West Bank, which Israel has no plans to do. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) said military aid should be cut if Israel is "moving in the opposite direction" of the "two-state solution," which most progressives believe Israel is doing. None of the candidates announced demands on the Palestinians.

The statements show the extent to which anti-Israel sentiment has spread from progressive activists to the Democratic Party mainstream. The calls for aid cuts are at odds with the longstanding strategic rationale for military aid to Israel, which has never been intended to promote peace with the Palestinians or the two-state solution.

Former CIA Director Leon Panetta - Sondland's Testimony ‘Clear Definition of Bribery'
[Breitbart] On Tuesday’s broadcast of CNN’s "Right Now," former Obama administration Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta said U.S. ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland’s testimony offered "the clear definition of bribery."

CNN correspondent Manu Raju read excerpts from Sondland’s congressional testimony in which he said a meeting between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was conditioned on an investigation into the company that Hunter Biden served on the board, Burisma Holdings.

Panetta said, "I think it’s important to keep focusing on the basics. And the basic charge here is that the president of the United States was asking a foreign leader and a foreign government to open up an investigation on a political opponent and on a political conspiracy and in exchange for that would provide not only a meeting at the White House but also military aid. That is the clear definition of bribery. And it’s a clear definition of what constitutes a violation of the president’s oath. So this is just additional evidence that when you look at the testimony, when you look at the facts here, it basically supports a charge against the president that he was deliberately misusing his office of the presidency."

Disproportionalities: Whose Fault?
Walter E. Williams is always worth reading in full.
[Townhall] Jews have been awarded 40% of the Nobel Prizes in economics, 30% of those in medicine, 25% in physics, 20% in chemistry, 15% in literature and 10% of the Nobel Peace Prizes. Since the beginning of the 20th century, there have been just over 900 Nobel Prizes awarded. Since Jews are only 2% of the world's population, instead having 22% of Nobel Prizes, 206, they should have won only two, according to the proportionality vision of justice.

...Proportionality injustice doesn't end with the Nobel Prize. Blacks are about 13% of the U.S. population but close to 70% of the players in the National Football League.

...Proportionality and diversity injustice is worse in the National Basketball Association, with blacks being over 80% of the players. Plus, it's not uncommon to watch college basketball games and see that 90 to 100% of the starting five players are black.

...Many see economics as neither a welcoming nor a supportive profession for women or blacks. Former Federal Reserve Board Chair Janet Yellen, in addressing a Brookings Institution audience said: "Within the economics profession, women and minorities are significantly underrepresented. And data compiled by the American Economic Association's Committees on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession and the Status of Minority Groups in the profession show that there has been little or no progress in recent decades. Women today make up only about 30 percent of Ph.D. students. Within academia, their representation drops the higher up one goes in the career ladder. The share of Ph.D.s awarded to African Americans is low; and it has declined slightly in recent decades." Yellen says that diversity in economics is a matter of "basic justice."

Had I been in the audience, I would have asked Yellen whether there's basic justice in the nursing field, where less than 10% of nurses are men. What about the gross lack of proportionality in incarceration? According to 2015 figures released by the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the overall U.S. prison and jail population is 90.6% male and 9.4% female. The only way that I see to remedy such a gross disproportionality injustice is to either incarcerate more female prisoners or release male prisoners.

...Moreover, if one carries the notion that disparities prove discrimination far enough, they'd look like true fools. According to a study conducted by Bond University in Australia, sharks are nine times likelier to attack and kill men than they are women. Despite the fact that men are 50% of the population, and so are women, men are struck by lightning six times as often as women. Of those killed by lightning, 82% are men. One can only wonder what social justice warriors would do about these and many other disproportionalities.

The Michael Flynn smoking gun: FBI headquarters altered interview summary
h/t Instapundit
by James A. Gagliano (@JamesAGagliano) worked in the FBI for 25 years. He is a law enforcement analyst for CNN and an adjunct assistant professor in homeland security and criminal justice at St. John's University.

[Washington Examiner] As a self-proclaimed adherent to Hanlon’s Razor, I once cynically viewed the frenzied focus on FBI actions during the 2016 Russian election-meddling investigation as partisan and overwrought. Hanlon’s Razor suggests that we never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity or incompetence. Having proudly served in the FBI for 25 years, I bristled at insulting accusations of an onerous deep state conspiracy. Some obvious mistakes made during the investigation of the Trump campaign were quite possibly the result of two ham-handedly overzealous FBI headquarters denizens, Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, clumsily seeking to impress each other with ever-increasing levels of loathing for then-candidate Donald Trump.

...But as we anxiously await the expected reports, there recently appeared some fairly explosive allegations into potential investigator misconduct that have not received the attention they deserve. With her filing of a blistering Motion to Compel against federal prosecutors in the Michael Flynn case just made public, Sidney Powell has upended my adherence to Hanlon’s Razor.

...One of the most damning charges contained within Powell’s 37-page court brief is that Page, the DOJ lawyer assigned to the office of then-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, may have materially altered Flynn’s interview FD-302, which was drafted by Strzok. FBI agents transfer handwritten interview notes onto a formal testimonial document, FD-302, within five days of conducting an interview, while recollections are still fresh.

It is unheard of for someone not actually on the interview itself to materially alter an FD-302. As an FBI agent, no one in my chain of command ever directed me to alter consequential wording. And as a longtime FBI supervisor, I never ever directed an agent to recollect something different from what they discerned during an interview. Returning a 302 for errors in grammar, punctuation, or syntax is appropriate. This occurs before the document is ultimately uploaded to a particular file, conjoined with the original interview notes which are safely secured inside a 1-A envelope, and secured as part of evidence at trial.

...So, did an accomplished 3-star general actually misrepresent the truth? Or, was his recollection of events later spun to be a mendacious accounting by overzealous investigators who followed their boss’s lead, while circumventing established protocol in an ambush-style interview? What apparently followed was a "tweaking" of the accounting to ensure Flynn be charged with Title 18 USC § 1001 ‐ something I have long argued was never charged by any U.S. Attorney’s Office during my time serving in the FBI unless we wanted to threaten it and employ as leverage.
Let me see if I got this one straight.
Cops, as movies teach us, have to record every interview: both video or sound. But FBI, sit down and write a report according to their recollections?

...Here’s me, acknowledging my mistake. I was dead wrong. It now seems there was a concerted effort, though isolated, within the upper-echelons of the FBI to influence the outcome of the Flynn investigation. By "dirtying up" Flynn, Comey’s FBI headquarters team of callow sycophants shortcut the investigative process. Arm-twisting Flynn through the "tweaked" version of his interview afforded him criminal exposure. The cocksure Comey team felt supremely confident that would inspire him "flipping" and give them the desperately sought-after evidence of Trump-Russia collusion that the wholly unverified Steele dossier was never remotely capable of providing.

I am physically nauseous as I type these words. I have long maintained that innocent mistakes were made and that the investigators at the center of this maelstrom were entitled to the benefit of the doubt.

No more.

They have tarnished the badge and forever stained an agency that deserved so much better from them. I am ashamed. The irreparable damage Comey’s team has done to the FBI will take a generation to reverse.

I ashamedly join Hanlon’s Razor in getting this one wrong.

#2  DOJ Makes Jaw-Dropping Admission in Flynn Case – Prosecution “Mistakenly” Attributed Wrong Notes to Wrong FBI Agents

#5  ^ yes. Never thought I'd see this but I do believe we're headed toward political violence in this country. The degree of wickedness we're now seeing is a prelude to desperate measures.

This is not how law-abiding, peaceful citizens behave. Look at the Twitter-Id, or the Page-Strzok texts, and the constant threats of violence (and actual violence across the country).

#6  Yes, I've never felt as close to civil war as it does now. I constantly question how much the left even sees reality, so many of their positions are based on some other reality that doesn't exist, men are women, no free speech, the constant attempts at disarming us, foreign invaders given more rights and being made exempt from the laws of this country.

You cannot reason with them and I fear very soon they will leave us no choice in what to do. If they do win in 2020, I fear it'll start within 3 months of them taking office. They will imagine they have some vast mandate and overreach immediately and fatally.

US Jewish umbrella group slams Democratic hopefuls’ calls to leverage Israel aid
[IsraelTimes] Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, an umbrella group of more than 50 Jewish organizations from across the ideological spectrum, says ‘deeply troubled’ by statements from Warren, Sanders, Buttigieg that aid could be used to force policy change.

Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, along with Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Indiana, recently have indicated a willingness to use American aid to force policy changes by Israel, including halting settlement construction.

Air Force to test StarLInk on an AC-130 gunship!
[SpaceNews] A program known as Defense Experimentation Using the Commercial Space Internet, or DEUCSI, recently tried out SpaceX’s Starlink satellite broadband services and demonstrated download speeds of 610 megabits per second into the cockpit of a C-12J Huron twin-engine turboprop aircraft.

“That’s a large number,” program manager Brian Beal said Nov. 5 during a conference call with reporters.

Beal said he could not comment on how Starlink’s data throughput compares to other services but said the connectivity is considerably faster than what most Air Force users have today.

“Between SpaceX and other competitors the numbers we can expect are significantly higher than what we were used to in the past,” Beal said.

Upcoming Air Force tests

Beal, the program manager, said the Air Force next week will install a Starlink terminal on an AC-130 gunship aircraft to test the service. Next spring a similar test will be conducted on a KC-135 aerial refueling tanker.

“We are setting up prototypes so we are ready as soon as the commercial offers are ready,” he said.

The Air Force Space Command is responsible for the procurement of commercial satellite communications. The work accomplished by the DEUCSI experiments will be shared with that office, Beal said. “We provide them information to help them prepare for those leases.”

3 protesters killed in clashes as Iraq tries to reopen Umm Qasr port
[AlAhram] Officials told AP security forces in Umm Qasr were firing live ammunition and tear gas, and that protesters have seized an armored vehicle.

At least three anti-government protesters have been killed in festivities with security forces in southern Iraq, officials said Tuesday, as authorities tried to reopen the country's main port, which had been blocked by demonstrators for three days.

Security and medical officials said a protester was killed and eight more were maimed in Umm Qasr, a key oil terminal on the Persian Gulf. The Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights, a semi-official agency, said two people were killed and 23 maimed in festivities in the southern city of Nasiriyah.

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief news hounds, said security forces in Umm Qasr were firing live ammunition and tear gas, and that protesters have seized an armored vehicle.

Security forces have killed at least 267 protesters since early October during two major waves of protests. In southern Iraq, protesters have ransacked and torched the offices of political parties linked to Iran, and on Sunday night they attacked the Iranian Consulate in the Shiite holy city of Karbala.

In Baghdad, protesters crossed a bridge over the Tigris River on Monday and clashed with security forces near the headquarters of state-run TV and the prime minister's office. At least five protesters and a member of the security forces were killed and scores were maimed. The protesters set tires and dumpsters ablaze within 500 meters (yards) of the prime minister's office, sending huge clouds of black smoke into the sky.

Netblocks, a group that monitors worldwide internet access, reported a major shutdown by Iraqi authorities overnight, with usage in Baghdad and southern Iraq dropping to 19% of normal levels. It said the internet was partially restored early on Tuesday, but that ``some networks are still offline and social media and messaging apps remain blocked or degraded.''

Authorities shut down internet access and blocked social media sites on a number of occasions during an earlier wave of protests in October, but Netblocks said the latest shutdown was the most severe yet.

Afghanistan
Afghan Border Forces on Alert Near Durand Line
[ToloNews] Kunar residents said they are ready to fully cooperate with the Afghan Border Forces in defending the country.

The Afghan Border Forces remain on alert in Narai district in the eastern province of Kunar following an exchange of mortar and rocket fire with Pakistain late last month.

The Narai district is located along the Durand Line ‐ a de facto border between Afghanistan and Pakistain. The de facto border runs almost 2,400 kilometers between the two neighboring countries.

Do Kalam village in Narai district, which is close to the Chitral district of Pakistain, was hit by Pak artillery fire in the latest clash.

According to local officials, two women were killed and five others were maimed--including children--in the blasts.

Some unconfirmed reports indicate that a counter-attack by Afghan forces caused casualties among Pak troops.

General Abdul Sabir Haidari, commander of the First Regiment of Border Forces East, visited Narai district on Sunday, Nov. 2, and said his forces have been stationed in strategic areas and are on alert.

"We agreed to a ceasefire on the seventh (of Aqrab ‐ Oct. 29) and no clash has happened since, but the Border Forces are on high alert and have very high morale. You can see that they (Pak forces) have stopped work on the installations they were trying to build," he said.

Border forces said the skirmishes started when Pak troops tried to build a military installation in international border areas, which, according to the Afghan side, is a provocation.

"The Paks wanted to build a checkpoint in Tor Kamar area, which is an international border," Haidari explained. "First, we wanted to solve the issue through negotiations and wanted to tell them (the Pak military) that people are sensitive about this area... But they continued their work and they opened fire on our forces at a time when we were not able to communicate with them and so the clash started."

"And then, reported Abdul Nasir, a tribal elder from Kunar, "Our brave forces gave a tit-for-tat response to them (Pak forces) and we are grateful."

PEOPLE’S SUPPORT
Local residents said this is not the first time Pak forces have violated the line and engaged with the Afghan military. Locals say they are ready to defend the country and stand alongside Afghan forces.

"Paks and Punjabis came and wanted to build a checkpoint. We are standing with the (Afghan) government and we are ready to help them," said Kafyatullah, a tribal elder.

"This is not the first time. There have been festivities three or four times, and the people have cooperated with our brave forces," said Ghawsuddin, a tribal elder from Kunar.

Pakistain’s incursions across the line date back several years, and despite promises from the Pak government, eastern Afghanistan continues to take fire from the Pakistain side.

30 Percent of Telecom Services Are Down in Afghanistan: ATRA
[ToloNews] It is expensive and dangerous to maintain telecom networks in Afghanistan, and in Farah province only one service provider is running.
“How dare you try to contact the outside world, O peasants! Bow your heads and submit to returning to the 7th century!
A member of the Afghanistan Telecom Regulatory Authority admitted to TOLOnews on Tuesday that 30 percent of the telecommunication services are down across the country.
Could be worse. You could have ComCast
According to ATRA, in areas under threat, telecommunications networks have been racking up high expenses for years, and that is why telecommunications costs did not decrease despite declining service.

"In only one province, not two, almost 30% of telecommunications networks are switched off! This puts tremendous pressure on the telecommunications networks because they have expenses, but they don't have the revenue," said Sayed Haris Meer, chief of the evaluation and control branch at ATRA.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Council of Boskone, Helmuth had turned a paler shade of blue. Star-A-Star had struck again...
sources told TOLOnews that in Farah province, five out of 11 government-run Salaam Network telecom sites have been destroyed or burned by the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
. The fifth was destroyed in Lash Wa Juwayn by a missile attack on Monday night.

Private telecommunications networks have been shut down for weeks in Farah province, and the Saalam Network operates only a few hours a day.
There was a human as well as material cost for the attacks:

"Those who died in the Taliban’s missile attack were students. We urge our authorities, especially intelligence agencies, to pursue these matters seriously," said Abdul Satar Hussaini, an MP from Farah province.

The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) admits that not only in Farah but also in other parts of the country, people face the problem of limited or stopped telecommunications services.

"Most of the provinces where the Taliban are active‐especially in the west and east--are facing these threats," said Shershah Nawabi, the ministry front man.

Seddiq Seddiqi, President Ghani’s front man, said that the government is working on a plan to protect telecommunications facilities across the country to "protect the towers and protect their offices."

"These are our current conditions. Two years, three years from now, as the use of telecommunication goes much higher and the situation becomes more sensitive, there will be a need for a system that will suffer less of an impact in the future," said Sayed Khudadad Mosavi, an IT expert.

The limitations of telecommunications networks in Afghanistan have been increasing year by year and in most parts of the country network employees have reportedly stopped working after receiving threatening messages from the Taliban.

It is estimated that with each attack on one of these telecommunication sites, the owning company suffers between $150,000 to $250,000 dollars.

Satellite images released by ImageSat International (ISI) on Monday showed a convoy of trucks passing through the crossing from the Iraqi town of Al Qaim into Syria’s Al Bukamal, the only crossing between the two countries controlled by government forces after Iraqi security forces retook the border post near the town of Al Qaim in late 2017.

Situatiated in Iraq’s restive Anbar province on one side and Syria’ Deir Ezzor province, al-Qaim is an area which is under the control of pro-Iranian Shiite militias who are handled by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds force.

ISI first released images of work on the new border crossing in May, with a site likely to be used as a storage compound for vehicles, equipment and possibly weapons. A neighboring structure was said to have been built at the end of 2018.

In September Fox News reported that Iran was building a classified military base near al-Bukamal, less than 200 miles from an American position with the intention to house thousands of troops.

According to the report, the classified Iranian project is called the Imam Ali compound and is being completed by the IRGC. At least five different newly constructed buildings surrounded by large dirt mounds could house precision missiles, Fox said. The other 10 less fortified storehouses in the base will likely hold ammunition.

"The construction of the new military compound began in recent months and is in advanced stages of construction," read a report by ISI which reviewed the images. "It is probably that the base construction will be completed over the next few months and will be operational shortly afterwards."

Iran has for years been trying to establish a 1,200 km. length land bridge from Tehran to the Mediterranean, a major concern for Israel which since 2013 has been carrying out a "war-between-wars" campaign aimed at preventing Iran from reaching its goal.

A top defense official has said that stopping Hezbollah’s precision missile program is the State of Israel’s top priority, just after working to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear capability, followed by preventing Iranian entrenchment in various Middle Eastern countries.

Both Israel and the US have warned that Iran and their proxy militias are a major threat to stability in the region and hope to weaken Iran’s growing influence across the Middle East and Persian Gulf.

Yemen govt, southern separatists sign power-sharing deal
[DAWN] Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
's internationally recognised government signed a power-sharing deal with southern separatists on Tuesday, in a Saudi-brokered initiative to end a conflict simmering within the country's civil war.

Unrest in the south, which saw secessionist forces seize control of Yemen's interim capital Aden, distracted the Saudi-led coalition from its battle against Iran's Houthi sock puppets

The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
rebels and raised fears the country could fall apart entirely.

"This agreement will open a new period of stability in Yemen. The kingdom of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...

said at a signing ceremony in Riyadh aired on state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
The deal will reportedly see the secessionist Southern Transitional Council (STC) handed a number of ministries, and the government return to Aden, according to officials and reports in Saudi media.

In the same context, sources confirmed that commander of Ajdabiya operations room, Fawzi al-Mansouri arrived on Sunday in Sabha
...After the Libyan Civil War, Sabha grew in importance as a slave auctioning town. However, an investigation by the National Commission for Human Rights in Libya (NCHRL) revealed that while there was illegal slavery, reports were exaggerated, as slave auctions were rare and not made public. The city was later seized by forces loyal to the Libyan National Army (LNA) and its leader Khalifa Haftar in January 2019, probably for its collection of MiG-25 aircraft....

These new measures come as Haftar continues to sustain heavy casualties in his forces, as well as his failure to achieve any victory on the ground.

Julián Castro Laying Off Staff in New Hampshire, South Carolina
[BREITBART] Longshot Democrat presidential candidate Julián Castro is laying off campaign staff in New Hampshire and South Carolina in order to focus his narrow resources in Iowa and Nevada, according to Politico.
Hold it! Somebody I never heard of has just quit the race? Hmm.
Castro is said to have told staffers in the early primary states that next week would be their last on the campaign. The development comes after Castro issued a fundraising plea to supporters late last month in which he sought $800,000 in donations over 10 days or he would be forced to drop out from the crowded Democrat presidential primary race. After the plea, Castro’s campaign said it raised $1 million for the month.
Like Spinal Tap, their appeal is becoming more selective
Although Castro has participated in all four DNC debates, the former San Antonio mayor and Obama-era Housing and Urban Development secretary has failed to gain traction in the polls.

Former Oakland mayor Willie Brown's former mistress, now a senatrix from California and 2020 Dem presidential hopeful, indistinguishable from the others...
(D-CA) has been forced to downsize her flailing White House campaign amid dismal polling and overspending. She plans to lay off campaign staff and close three offices in New Hampshire as part of an effort to go "all-in on Iowa."

Poland's Judicial Reforms OR 'How the EU subverts Sovereignty'
[DW] What are Poland's controversial judicial reforms?

The European Union has repeatedly condemned Poland for its overhaul of the country's judicial system. But what reforms does it find so egregious?
From the very powers and structure of the Supreme Court, to age limits and tenure criteria are changed at whim by the ECJ. The EU decides what laws will be deemed unconstitutional and whatever the so-called govt decides can be struck down from Brussels.

After this, a consolidation of the fourth estate with an EU designed media reforms.

I didn't post it all here as it's longish, but do read this article at DW.com and wonder just why did the Allies liberate Poland in the first place. And thank your stars you're not in the Ewww, people.

Three suspected Abu Sayyaf bombers killed before suicide mission
[Inquirer] Three suspected Abu Sayyaf suicide bombers were killed in a clash with Philippine security forces in Indanan, Sulu on Tuesday afternoon. The suspects were about to carry out a suicide bombing mission, when they were flagged down by soldiers at a checkpoint at Barangay Kan Islam in Indanan town, military spokesman Cirilito Sobejana said in a statement.

The three suspects fired at the soldiers and a firefight lasted for five minutes. Two of the suspects were Egyptians — identified only as Abduramil and Abdurahman. The Egyptians were believed to be a father and son. One was Filipino, Sobejana said.

Sobejana said they are trying to confirm information that the two suspects were related to the female suicide bomber who attacked a military outpost, also in Sulu, in September.

In a security briefing also on Tuesday, AFP deputy chief of staff for intelligence Maj. Gen. Reuben Basiao said they had identified seven foreign terrorists in Mindanao, while 60 others remain on their watchlist.

“Foreign terrorist fighters are consistently monitored in Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur and Sulu, planning to conduct suicide bombings as well as to provide funds and training,” he said.

#5  I don't think there is much interest in finding out what happened to Jeffrey Epstein. There will most likely be a report about the mishandling of high profile prisoners and poor jail procedures and mismanagement where the real story will go untold.

Those who Epstein had dirt on most likely breathed a sigh of relief when Epstein "cashed out." I wonder what the FBI found when they searched Epstein's Manhattan apartment and Little St. James Island. What do Ghislaine Maxwell and Jean-Luc Brunel and others know? What was on Weiner's computer. A good investigation would address these issues.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
The revolt against Iran (in Iraq and Lebanon)
[TabletMagazine] Across the Middle East, from Baghdad to Beirut, the citizens of countries thought to be part of Iran's axis of influence have begun to revolt against Tehran. In the face of brutal crackdowns, millions of Iraqi and Lebanese protesters, in movements led by Shiite Muslims that defy reductive sectarian narratives, have erupted in revolt against the corruption and failure of their governments and Iran's domination over their national politics.

In early October, predominantly Shiite youth took to the streets in Iraq calling for their government's resignation, and chanting slogans like: "Out, out Iran, Baghdad remains free!"
[this has a lot of opinion and some supposition woven into the facts]
That’s why it belongs in Opinion. ;-)

#1  This paragraph is interesting, as we haven’t been looking at the Iran proxy paramilitary funding in Iraq at all:

Last summer,  PMF forces refused to heed the Iraqi prime minister’s orders for them to integrate into the national army. Instead, they continue to levy illegal taxes at checkpoints, reaping, according to one report, an estimated $300,000 a day from illegal taxation. They’ve also been smuggling fuel from Basra and making millions selling scrap metal, meddling in ports, and seizing state assets. Encouraged by Tehran, Iran-backed Shiite proxies have taken a page from Hezbollah’s playbook, dominating government  service departments such as health and education ministries to build  allegiance  through  patronage, neglecting those not  dedicated  to Iran’s political-theological  aims.  Sunnis have died in  Baghdad  for example,  because  Shiites controlling  hospitals  and clinics refused to treat members of the opposite sect.

On the Lebanon/Hizb’allah side

Shiite protesters torched Hezbollah offices in the group’s heartland of Nabatieh, in a sign that the Trump administration’s maximum pressure campaign against Iran, has weakened Iranian clients like Hezbollah. As funding from the Islamic Republic—which accounts for around 70% of Hezbollah’s income—has fallen, the group has been forced to reduce wages for its fighters and social services for its constituents.

Two million demonstrators flooded the streets in Lebanon, a country of only 4.5 million.

#2  I have problems understanding what's going on over there. My best assessment is that Iraq being majority Shiite is about to become an Iranian slave state with all the Islamic trimmings. Things can always get worse you know.

Mexico Deploys Forces to Northern State After Nine US Mormons Killed
[SPUTNIKNEWS] The Mexican security minister stated Tuesday that nine people, three women and six children, have been killed in an ambush on a Mormon family in Northern Mexico.
Really, everyone should be talking about Mormon heretics, because they insisted on cleaving to polygamy when the head honcho gave it up in 1890 in exchange for Utah gaining statehood. That’s why at least some of the polygamists moved to Mexico.
The official further stated that the murdered people travelling in a convoy, could have been confused with criminal groups fighting for control in the region.

US President Donald Trump
...Perhaps no man has ever had as much fun being president of the US...
has turned to Twitter amid the ongoing investigation to lambast those responsible for the crime and to propose US support for Mexico.
Mitts sez "something must be done" Infanry, tanks, Archlight, whatever it takes.
Commenting on Trump's proposal, Mexican President Lopez Obrador said that his country was ready to work with the FBI in the war against narco mobs.

Earlier in the day, media said the Mexican authorities had deployed national police and military forces to the northern state of Sonora bordering the US following reports of at least seven US citizens, including children having been killed.

The reports of the massacre emerged late on Monday as Lafe Langford Jr, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which has a major presence in the region, posted a statement on Facebook, saying that a mother and four of her children had been killed by narco mobs.

According to Mr Lafe Langford Jr, Rhonita Miller and her 4 children were shot up and burned to death in a vehicle.

Mr Lafe Langford Jr has been updating the information as the situation develops, saying that two other women who were previously missing - Christina Langford and Dawna Langford and their children have also been killed.
Thank you for your offer of assistance Mr. President Trump. But as you can see, we now have it all under controlo.

#17  B - Bing search sez:
Does the United States allow dual citizenship?
The United States does not outright support dual citizenship, but the law does not disallow it. Under United States law, U.S. citizens can hold additional citizenship with any country they qualify for without risk of losing their American citizenship or risk of having to denounce original citizenship upon naturalization as an U.S. citizen

As far as the responsibility, that is a bit murky. My feelings (I know...) is that they gave up their invoking a US response when they got the dual citizenship and resided permanently in the other country

#21  Regardless of the victims' citizenship, it is obvious that Mexican police can't hack it so it would be appropriate for our government to give military assistance to the Mexican government except that AMLO has refused the offer. He says war is not an option which, IMHO, means he surrenders. That means we cut off all aid and diplomatic relations with what is now a hostile narco-terror state. Enforce a travel ban as well. Finally, SECURE THE DAMN BORDER to keep that shit from spilling over into our country.

If we can identify friendly elements of the Mexican military or friendly militias, we could then offer them assistance. But Mexico is now in the control of narco-terrorists and should be treated accordingly.

And I don't care about all the U.S. companies that have their products manufactured in Mexico and then bring them into this country. It is a security risk and needs to stop. Are we gonna wait for the gunmen to start shooting up this side of the border?

As for Pierre, Pelosi, Schumer and a whole host of other Democrat luminaries, we know that cartel money has corrupted the Mexican government. The question is: How much of our own government has it corrupted?

#22  Suppose a US citizen goes to Gaza and gets killed there by the locals. What should USG do?

I don’t think that’s the right thought experiment, g(r)omgoru. Try this: Suppose Suzy Creamcheese marries a Palestinian-American lad, they have three children, then the whole family moves to Gaza City. Now suppose their eldest grandson, after graduating from good ol’ Gaza City High School (summa cum laude, of course — he got the Creamcheese brains), gets shot in the kneecap while hanging with his friends near that famous fence. What should the U.S. government do?

Re: dual citizenship. When we lived abroad, I was told that if my children were born abroad, they would inherit my American citizenship. But unless they married an American born on American soil (including on an American military base) or their children were born on American soil, those grandchildren would not be American citizens. The birthright does not extend to one generation.

So it would be very interesting to know whether or not these people are actually legally American citizens, or if they are more in the nature of Barack Obama’s African-Americanness. Sure he looks the part, but it is literally only skin deep.

Mexico is a failed state.

Nigerian police free 259 people from Islamic institution
At what point do parents throw up their hands and send their children to Christian schools instead?
[Al Jazeera] Nigerian police have freed 259 people from an Islamic rehabilitation centre in the southwestern city of Ibadan, police said on Tuesday, taking the number rescued from abusive institutions since September to nearly 1,500.

Images from local TV station TVC taken after the captives were released showed a group of mostly young men and teenage boys. Many were emaciated. An infant was also among the group.

"We eat one meal a day," freed captive Olalekan Ayoola, told TVC, saying the food was not fit for a dog to eat.

Nigeria launched a crackdown on informal Islamic schools and rehabilitation centres in late September after a man was refused permission to see his nephews at one institution and complained to police.

Many captives have said they were physically and sexually abused and chained up to prevent them from escaping.

Other sites raided in major police operations have been in the mostly Moslem north of the country. Ibadan is in the southwestern state of Oyo, which is predominantly Christian.

Support for President Erdoğan surges after Turkey's Operation Peace Spring
[DAILYSABAH] Support for President Tayyip Erdogan surged last month after The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
launched Operation Peace Spring in northeastern Syria to clear the PKK's Syrian offshoot the People's Protection Units (YPG) from near its border, a survey by Metropoll showed Tuesday.

Erdogan's approval rating rose by 3.7 percentage points in October to 48%, the survey showed, recording its highest level since shortly after the presidential elections of June 2018, which were held before last year's currency crisis.

His disapproval rate fell 9.3 percentage points to 33.7%, its lowest level since the failed coup of July 2016. Some 18% of participants did not respond to the survey question or said they had no idea.

Four of the five political parties in the Ottoman Turkish Parliament have strongly supported Turkey's operation against the YPG. Only the pro-PKK Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) opposed it.

Iraqi PM says protesters demands are ‘legitimate’ but warns of ‘the unknown’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi described on Tuesday the demands of the protesters as legitimate but warned that the situation across the country "could be heading toward the unknown."

In a televised speech, Abdul Mahdi said that the protests which erupted in early October are rightful and in the right direction, adding that these protests pointed to accumulated mistakes that were made since 2003.

He said that "many economic and social mistakes have not been properly and radically addressed."

"There are legitimate demands for the resignation of the government," said Abdul Mahdi.

But he warned that the situation across the country could be heading "toward the unknown."

Abdul Mahdi said there is a need for a constitutional amendment, adding this amendment could amount to a change in the political system.

Earlier in the day, Abdul Mahdi appealed to protesters to suspend their movement, which he said had achieved its goals and was hurting the economy.

He said he is willing to resign if politicians agree on a replacement and vowed a number of reforms. But protesters say that is not enough and the entire political class needs to go.

Jordan to return its ambassador to Israel after prisoner exchange deal
[Ynet] Israeli government confirm the release of the 2 Jordanian nationals after an earlier statement by a senior Israeli official who said the pair are to be freed as gesture of goodwill; the kingdom's foreign minister claims they are to be released by ’end of the week’

Israel says Jordan will return its ambassador to Israel in the coming days, after an agreement has been reached for the release of two Jordanian nationals currently held in adminstrative detention in Israel.

Jordan recalled its ambassador on Tuesday over the refusal of the Israeli government to release Hiba Labadi
...also spelt Heba al-Labadi, though not in our archives, who was accused of a connection to Hizb’allah...
and Abdul Rahman Miri, who Jordan said had been illegally arrested without charge a few months ago.

"An agreement was reached between the countries for the transfer of the two Jordanians arrested in Israel to the Jordanian security forces," said Prime Minister's Office in a statement. "The head of the Shin Bet agreed on the terms of the transfer with his Jordanian counterpart," it added.

"Israel views the relationship between Jordan and Israel as a cornerstone of regional stability and will continue to act to ensure the region's security."

National Security Adviser Meir Ben-Shabbat also confirmed the release after visiting Jordan, the pair are to be released as a gesture of goodwill. In addition, one of the detainees, who'd been on hunger strike for several weeks is said to have begun eating again.

Hours earlier, Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said two of its citizens detained by Israel after crossing into the West Bank would return to Jordan "before the end of the week".

"The government pursued the case from the start under direct instructions from His Majesty King Abdullah to take all necessary steps to release them whatever that may cost," Safadi said on his Twitter account.

Labadi, 24, was arrested in August after crossing to the West Bank to attend a family wedding. She subsequently went on a hunger strike and was hospitalized after her health deteriorated.

Miri, 29, was arrested last September after he also crossed into the West Bank to visit relatives.

Safadi said last month he held the Israeli government responsible for the lives of the two, adding that their health had severely deteriorated and warned the kingdom could escalate its actions if they were not released.

Israel's deputy foreign minister, Tzipi Hotovely, said at the time both detainees were suspected of security offences, without being more specific.

Israel mainly uses administrative detention against Paleostinians suspected of anti-Israeli activities.

It says the measure, which human rights

Nawaz was to be shifted to Sharif Medical City Hospital, but since the release orders for his daughter Maryam Nawaz could not be obtained from Lahore High Court, the former premier decided to delay his departure from the hospital so the two could leave together.

MARYAM'S BAIL
Maryam Nawaz has also been under treatment at the Services Hospital since October 23, a day after her father was admitted.

She is awaiting her release on bail in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case after the LHC had granted her request a day earlier.

The PML-N leader has been ordered to furnish two surety bonds, each worth Rs10 million, and deposit an additional Rs70million and surrender her passport to secure her release.

Director of Benghazi’s Benina Airport resigns due to chaos and lack of authority
[Libya Observer] The Director of Benina Airport in Benghazi, Abdullah al-Shaafi has presented his resignation due to problems between the airport security services and the lack of resources, as well as the lack of seriousness of the authorities of the eastern region to look into the airports' issues.

The Airports Authority of the east-based parallel government has confirmed its rejection to the resignation, saying that the "timing is inappropriate".

At another level, airport administration officials have also staged a protest to demand Shaafi to go back on his resignation.

Trump’s Trade War Slashed US Imports From Beijing by $35Bln in First Half of 2019
[SPUTNIKNEWS] The trade war between the United States and China has hurt both sides and decreased US imports from Beijing by $35 billion over the first half of this year, the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) said in a report.

"The analysis shows that US tariffs caused a 25% export loss, inflicting a US$35 billion blow to Chinese exports in the US market for tariffed goods in the first half of 2019," a blurb accompanying the report said on Tuesday.

The US tariffs on China are economically hurting both countries and US losses are largely related to higher prices for consumers, the UNCTAD report warned.

Taiwan was the largest beneficiary of the trade diversion effects of US tariffs on China, accounting for additional exports to the United States of almost $4.2 billion in the first half of 2019, the report said.

Mexico’s increase in exports to the United States due to the new tariffs on China are quantified to be about $3.5 billion, mostly in the agri-food, transport equipment and electrical machinery sectors, UNCTAD added.

#2  we also had reduced exports

the arithmetic won't add up because the total exports and imports are different each year

also it depends whether its just merchandise or does it count services, fees and so forth

in any case the arithmetic isn't really the issue as the US has as its objective to get the PRC to reform its practices and the PRC objective is to not reform its practices

Israel police find weapons hidden near a kindergarten
[Jpost] A suspect was detained regarding the two revolvers, a "Carlo" submachine gun, stun grenades, a flash grenade and a large amount of ammunition.

Police in northern Israel seized weapons hidden next to a kindergarten in the Arab village of I'billin, northeast of Haifa.

Multiple weapons were found hidden in an open area near a residence. The weapons included two revolvers, a "Carlo" submachine gun, stun grenades, a flash grenade and a large amount of ammunition for different types of weapons, according to Israeli Police.

A 34-year-old suspect from I'billin was detained and taken for questioning. Police say he will be brought to court on Tuesday for a hearing to extend his arrest.

Earlier on Monday, in another Arab town, Israeli police forces caught two people in the yard of a residence, near a kindergarten, with a mortar shell and ammunition.

The two suspects were arrested and taken in for questioning.

National courts lead the way in prosecuting Syrian war crimes
[Al Jazeera] German prosecutors last week charged two men who were allegedly former Syrian intelligence officers with crimes against humanity. The charges set the stage for the first prosecution for torture by suspected members of the government's notorious security services and the case will be closely watched by those seeking justice for victims of international crimes committed since the Syrian war erupted in 2011.

International crimes are crimes that are so serious that they affect the international community as a whole. They include war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.

In a September report, the UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria said that Syrian government forces backed by Russian warplanes may have committed war crimes, citing two incidents in Idlib province earlier this year. The same report also said that the former al-Qaeda affiliate Hay'et Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else

Russian lawmakers back push to make local apps mandatory on smartphones
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Russian lawmakers on Tuesday backed legislation in a preliminary vote that would require all smartphones, computers and smart TV sets sold in Russia to come pre-installed with Russian software.

The bill seeks to help Russian IT firms compete with foreign companies and would allow the government to designate certain
locally-produced software as mandatory for devices sold in the country.
"Siri?
"Da"

Lawmakers in the lower house of parliament say the bill would also benefit Russian consumers, as it will spare them having to download domestic software upon purchasing new technology.

The bill proposes fines for companies that sell devices without pre-installed Russian software of up to 200,000 roubles ($3,155) starting from January 2021.

Russia’s cellphone market is dominated by foreign companies Apple, Samsung and Huawei products.

In August, Russian internet group Mail.ru said it was in talks with Huawei about the possibility of having its software pre-installed on the Chinese firm’s devices.

The proposal will only become law if it is backed in two more votes by the lower house of parliament and then approved by the upper house and President Vladimir Putin.

Moscow is trying to expand control over the internet and reduce its dependence on foreign companies and countries.

Land Owner Burns India Official Alive Over Alleged Property Dispute
[SPUTNIKNEWS] Vijaya Reddy, 37, died in a blaze after her office in Abdullapurmet was set on fire on Monday over a dramatically-escalated land dispute. Her driver - who tried to rescue the official - succumbed hours later to his wounds.

Local witnesses told the NDTV broadcaster that the suspect - identified by police as Suresh Mudiraju - entered Reddy's office with passbooks related to his property on Monday afternoon. Some half an hour later, Reddy rushed out of the office engulfed in flames. Her fellow-employees tried to extinguish her by wrapping her in a blanket.

"Suresh Mudiraju did not act on impulse. He came to the victim's office with a plan", local police said, adding that "the driver, Gurunatham, died at a hospital while undergoing treatment", according to the NDTV.

The NDTV reported that the suspect had grievances related to the local revenue department, which apparently refused to fix certain errors in his documents, related to an ongoing court case involving his property. The suspect reportedly made repeated trips to the revenue office before setting it on fire.

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

The brutal attack on the official has sparked protests in the area. Locals have reportedly blocked nearby roads demanding justice, better security and rapid probe of the incident.

Journalists quit Lebanon paper over anti-protest stance
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Four journalists have resigned from Leb’s pro-Hezbollah newspaper al-Akhbar over the daily’s stance on an unprecedented wave of anti-government protests.

One journalist announced her resignation last week, another on Monday and two more followed suit on Tuesday, explaining their decision on social media.

One of them, leading economic journalist Mohammed Zbib, said he "resigned to protest against the newspaper management’s attitude towards the uprising."

Since October 17, hundreds of thousands of Lebanese have taken to the streets to demand better living conditions and a wholesale change of Leb’s corrupt and sectarian political system.

Al-Akhbar is among the most read and respected newspapers in Leb, including by those who do not share its political leanings.

Over the years, it has consistently produced pioneering coverage of the economic hardships faced by Leb’s least privileged, a key driver of the ongoing protests.

When the protests erupted nearly three weeks ago, initially over a proposed tax on phone calls via messaging apps, al-Akhbar threw its weight behind the movement.

However,
a woman is only as old as she admits...
protesters’ grievances swiftly grew to demand the resignation of the entire ruling elite and a complete overhaul of a system that has returned the same politicians to power for decades.

At Least 15 Killed in Alleged Rebel Attack in South Thailand
[SPUTNIKNEWS] Suspected separatist holy warriors in the southern Yala province of Thailand used explosives and scattered nails on local roads to delay pursuers late on Tuesday night after reportedly killing at least 15 people and injuring four in a shooting at a security checkpoint.

"This is likely the work of the holy warriors [...] This is one of the biggest attacks in recent times", Colonel Pramote Prom-in, a regional security front man said, cited by Rooters.

Moslem Malay separatists are reportedly known to attack security personnel and monks in the southern Thai provinces which they see as territories occupied by a Buddhist-majority state.

The roots of the local conflict date back to the early 20th century, when the territory of the Pattani sultanate became part of mostly Buddhist Siam (former name of Thailand) and was separated into three provinces ‐ Naranthiwat, Pattani and Yala.

Since then, Moslem movements in these regions have repeatedly called for broader autonomy and pushed for independence.

Man stabbed to death in Maryland Popeyes after altercation over chicken sandwich, police say
[FOX5DC] A fight over someone cutting in line lead to a fatal stabbing Monday night at a Maryland Popeyes.

Prince George's County Police say they received reports of a fight at a Popeyes location in the 6200 block of Livingston Road in Oxon Hill on Monday at around 7 p.m.

According to police, the fight initially began in line when a man cut in front of another man and then the altercation escalated and spilled outside where one of the men was stabbed.

"We have been able to determine, preliminarily, that this is related to the release of the sandwich here at this restaurant... this individual was in line specifically for the sale of the sandwich when another customer and he got into an altercation and that ended with the victim being stabbed outside of the business," said PGPD Director of Media Relations Jennifer Donelan late Monday.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 28-year-old man in the parking lot suffering from stab wounds.

He was transported to a local hospital where he departed this vale of tears about an hour after the stabbing.

Police are hoping the suspect turns himself in. An investigation is underway.

Greta Thunberg Pleads for Help and a Carbon-Free Lift Across the Atlantic

The 16-year-old made it from Sweden to Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, by yacht, train and electric car before Chile’s government announced it was canning the summit because of political unrest in the South American nation.

The COP25 summit will now be held in Spain and she is pleading for public help to make the 6000-mile trip through carbon-free modes of transportation.

"As #COP25 has officially been moved from Santiago to Madrid I’ll need some help," Ms Thunberg tweeted from Los Angeles.

"It turns out I’ve travelled half around the world, the wrong way."

"Now I need to find a way to cross the Atlantic in November ... If anyone could help me find transport I would be so grateful."

Any idea of the streaming companies' data center energy usage? Of the infrastructure of the Internet's energy usage?

Might be fun to watch the federal marshals escort her onto the plane.

#20  Her "problem" sums up the problem of the whole "movement". Clueless. How was she supposed to get home from Chile btw?

The pragmatic way would, of course be, a standby plane ticket.

#21  A lot of countries demand that you show them a return plane ticket before they allow you to enter their country.

#22  737 max perhaps.

I have no beef with clean energy sources. I wouldn't want to live next to a coal mine. I remember coal furnaces. But at the same time the energy sources being used need to make sense. In their use, their planning and most importantly in the prosed method of energy storage for off peak or night hours for solar plants. It's my hope that someday we have practical fusion plants. Of course the green wines will want to stop them 'cause they're nuclear.

The Pettish Fetish, or A Swedish-Mohammedan Edda

To telecommute might be better,

Iran bans cooperation with British Council, warns of prosecution
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iran’s intelligence ministry on Tuesday said that any cooperation with the British Council was banned and would result in prosecution, the ministry’s website reported.

"Britannia ... was planning to implement a project for cultural networking purposes in cooperation with the British Council in Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
... any cooperation with the British Council is prohibited and will result in prosecution," the ministry said in a statement.

In August, Iran’s Supreme Court upheld a 10-year prison sentence for spying against an Iranian woman, Aras Amiri, who worked for the British Council in London.

Amiri was arrested last year during a family visit to Iran.

#1  I think there's a spelling problem here. I suspect all "British Councils" are utterly compliant in a "bottom" sense to muzzists. Maybe the British Counsel has said something that has them upset.

The incident occurred in the Bacha Abad area of the Kulachi tehsil.

According to District Police Officer (DPO) DI Khan Dilawar Bangash, the FC personnel were on their way to their check post in Loni area when "unidentified armed terrorists" attacked them near Qasim river.

"As a result two FC personnel were martyred and two sustained injuries," said DPO Bangash, adding, "A rickshaw driver also died in the attack."

The DPO said that after "responsive firing" by the personnel, the faceless myrmidons escaped.

The injured FC personnel were shifted to the hospital. The site of the attack was sealed off by security forces and a search operation was launched.
