Violent protests force delays on flagship South African bridge project
[Bridgeweb (Industry mag)] "The violent protest at the Mtentu River bridge site on the N2 over the last week is completely unacceptable and is condemned," said Sanral engineering executive Louw Kannemeyer.

Workers and management have been threatened, including with assault rifles. The action by scores of protestors was disruptive, threatening and intimidating, said Sanral. "At the heart of the dispute is simply that, while locals have been employed, those that weren't felt they should have been," said Kannemeyer. "There are only so many jobs per contract, which unfortunately means that not every unemployed person can be accommodated. Sanral cannot condone hooliganism and aggression as a means of demanding who must be given jobs."

Aveng Strabag Joint Venture was appointed in August last year as contractor for the project.

Sanral said that it takes the safety of its contractor and labourers very seriously and that the work stoppage means a time delay and may be costly.

"Disruptions that stop work on site affects the critical path of the project and delays the completion date of the project," said Kannemeyer. "On a project of this magnitude, these disruptions cost the economy several hundred thousand rands per day."

Sanral called on authorities in the Eastern Cape to address the violent acts. "We ask the communities to whose benefit the N2 Wild Coast project was developed and is being implemented, to root out the criminal elements in their midst," said Kannemeyer. "As Sanral, we want to work with you to resolve issues, through dialogue. Violence is never an answer."

Work on the bridge will continue when the situation has been brought under control, said the agency.

Home Front: Culture Wars
GOP candidate, the butt of a tasteless SNL joke, isn't demanding an apology
[AmericanThinker] ]On Saturday night, SNL's Pete Davidson made a tasteless joke about GOP congressional candidate Dan Crenshaw that set social media ablaze with criticism.

Davidson was doing "Weekend Update" and one of the segments featured him making rude comments about how some Republican candidates looked. He singled out Crenshaw, who lost an eye in Afghanistan, saying he looked like a "hit man in some porno movie" because of his eyepatch. When called out for his flippant, tasteless remark, he said "I'm sorry. I know he lost his eye in war or whatever … Whatever."

Crenshaw did 3 tours in Afghanistan and was a Navy SEAL. But in a surprise and generous move, Crenshaw did not call on Davidson to make an apology, saying, "I want us to get away from this culture where we demand an apology every time someone misspeaks."

Mediaite:

He added: "I think that would be very healthy for our nation to go in that direction. We don't need to be outwardly outraged. I don't need to demand apologies from them. They can do whatever they want, you know. They are feeling the heat from around the country right now and that's fine."

He then stressed that he would like Davidson and SNL to recognize that "veterans across the country probably don't feel as though their wounds [that] they received in battle should be the subject of a bad punch line."

Finally, the veteran and candidate said the "real atrocity" was Davidson's attempt at a joke wasn't even funny but "just mean-spirited."

That's the absolute best way to deal with the "Outrage Brigades" on social media - make their efforts seem petty and mean. As for Davidson, Crenshaw makes the "comedian" look about 2 inches tall. Not only is Davidson not worth asking for an apology, but that the country would be better if everyone followed his example.

Couldn't agree more.

Rush and Hannity to Joint POTUS Tonight at Cape Girardeau final rally
[Breitbart] President Donald Trump will be joined by top conservative media figures Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity on Monday, as part of his final campaign rally.

The final campaign rally is scheduled to take place at Cape Girardeau, Missouri, which is Limbaugh’s hometown, at 9:00 CST.

"We’re glad to welcome Cape Girardeau native Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity as special guests to this final stop on the tour where President Trump will make his case to the American people to support GOP candidates on Election Day in order to continue our great American comeback under his leadership," said Trump’s campaign Chief Operating Officer Michael Glassner in a statement.

The president holds both Limbaugh and Hannity in high regard for their understanding of conservatives in the United States and their willingness to fight. He has privately hosted both of them at the White House after winning the presidency.

Eating a garden slug can lead to parasite infection and death
[MAIL] A gifted rugby player who became a paraplegic after swallowing a garden slug as a dare has died after an eight-year battle with a parasite infection.

Sam Ballard, 28, spent three years in hospital after eating the garden slug at a party in 2010 when he was just 19.

The 'cheeky larrikin' passed away on Friday surrounded by family and a loyal group of friends after years of medical complications following the incident.

Mr Ballard's last words to his mother Katie were: 'I love you'.

Before the dare Mr Ballard had been a promising young rugby player at his high school, Barker College, on Sydney's upper north shore.

Earlier this year his mates Jimmy Galvin and Michael Sheasby told The Project of the fateful night that changed their lives.

'We were sitting over here having a bit of a red wine appreciation night, trying to act as grown up and a slug came crawling across here,' Mr Galvin said.

Britain
Perfidious Albion's 'Deep State' and the Russian Oligarch Oleg Deripaska
[NYT] This spring, a British lord with deep ties to the governing Conservative Party and a reputation as a do-gooder environmentalist arrived in Washington on an unlikely mission: to save the business empire of Oleg Deripaska, one of Russia’s most infamous oligarchs.
Adam Waldman, left, and Mr. Deripaska in 2015 at Oktoberfest in Munich. Mr. Waldman, a former Clinton administration official, earned $40,000 a month helping the oligarch.
Mr. Deripaska was in deep trouble. In April, the Trump administration had announced sanctions on oligarchs close to President Vladimir V. Putin, and on their companies, as punishment for Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and for other hostile acts. A billionaire who controls the world’s second-largest aluminum company, Mr. Deripaska faced possible ruin.

Portrayed as little more than a thug by his critics and suspected by United States officials of having ties to Russian organized crime, Mr. Deripaska, 50, has spent two decades trying to buy respect in the West. London welcomed him; Washington still mostly has not. Successive administrations have limited his ability to travel to the United States.

Even Mr. Putin was unable to resolve the situation when he interceded personally with Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama on Mr. Deripaska’s behalf.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iranian hardliners dig in as US sanctions snap back
[Asia Times] Rouhani’s government is working to salvage the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, but Iranian hardliners are digging in for resistance.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani vowed on Monday to defy United States sanctions on the country’s petroleum sector, even as the conservative Guardian Council went further ‐ rejecting a bill meant to relieve US pressure.

Rouhani said Iran would "proudly bypass" the US sanctions in a televised speech on state TV as the 180-day deadline passed.

Brigadier General Hossein Salami, the lieutenant commander of the Revolutionary Guards, pointed to eight sanctions waivers granted to Turkey and other jurisdictions as proof of Washington’s failure to fully implement its goals.

But while Rouhani’s government is working to salvage the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, better known as the Iran nuclear deal, Iranian hardliners appear to be digging in for resistance.

Iran’s Guardian Council on Sunday rejected an anti-terror financing bill that Rouhani had lobbied strongly for, sending it back to parliament.

Finnish police raid billionaire's secret island fortress as fears of Moscow espionage grows
[Auzzie News] A FORCE of 400 heavily armed tactical police have stormed 17 properties on Finland’s western borders ‐ many owned by mysterious Russian businessman Pavel Melnikov.

The raids, which took place in September, included an assault on the tiny island of Sakkiluoto. The island held nine piers, a helipad, a camouflage-draped swimming pool, swarms of satellite dishes ‐ and barracks-like housing.

Officially, Finland’s KRP federal police are investigating a Russian real estate company for money laundering.

But many in Finland don’t believe these properties match their descriptions as luxury getaways or investment properties. And Finnish authorities have been unusually quiet about it all. This is seen as odd, given the crowing over similar corporate criminal cases in the past.

German Jews propose anti-Semitism lessons for Muslim migrants
[BBC] Germany's foremost Jewish organisation has called for special classes for Muslim immigrants to help stop the spread of anti-Semitism.

Its vice-president, Abraham Lehrer, said many migrants were arriving from countries were "anti-Semitism is part of the rationale of the state".

He said integration classes should be "tailored" by country of origin.

Germany has seen a large increase in asylum seekers since 2015, many of whom come from Muslim-majority countries.

The country is battling a wave of anti-Semitism, partly attributed to rhetoric from the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD).

Hundreds of anti-Semitic incidents were reported in Germany last year, the vast majority of which were carried out by neo-Nazi or other far-right groups.

Britain
Hunger strike hero victory: Old soldier wins mental health care battle
[Express] A FALKLANDS veteran who went on hunger strike in protest at the treatment of ex-servicemen has won a victory after the former head of the British Army intervened in the case. Ex-paratrooper Gus Hales, 62, launched his protest over the "disgraceful" lack of mental health care for former soldiers and the prosecutions that are being brought against those who have served in Northern Ireland.

The married father says his comrades from out and refusing to eat to draw attention to his cause.

A week after the Daily Express first highlighted his protest, Mr Hales' former troop commander General Sir Peter Wall, president of veterans' charity Combat Stress, pledged to review cases of former service members treated for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Sir Peter, the Chief of the General Staff until 2014, visited and handed a letter to Mr Hales, on the seventh day of his protest, apologising for his treatment.

The visit came ahead of a rally by more than 100 former servicemen.

Mr Hales called Sir Peter "brilliant" and said his letter had "gone a long way" to help.

The ex-sergeant has vowed to continue his protest until Remembrance Day next Sunday, which this year coincides with Armistice Day.

In his letter to Mr Hales, Sir Peter said: "I would like to acknowledge the admiration you are attracting for your brave and highly-visible media campaign to draw attention to the plight of veterans with mental ill-health from their military service.

Manchin Will Vote in Favor of Taxpayer-Funded Abortion
[Free Beacon] Sen. Joe Manchin (D., W. Va.) said he will vote against a proposed amendment to the West Virginia constitution that would end taxpayer-funded abortion.

The Democrat announced his opposition to Amendment 1 at a Thursday debate with Republican nominee, Attorney General Patrick Morrisey. The initiative would establish that the state constitution does not guarantee abortion as a right, which would overturn a 1993 West Virginia Supreme Court ruling allowing Medicaid funding to be used for elective abortions. Under the current regime, 1,500 abortions are performed every year in the state using taxpayer funding. Manchin insisted he is pro-life, but believes taxpayers should pay for some abortions.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Senate Report Reveals Christine Blasey Ford Had an Encounter Similar to Her Kavanaugh Claim
[Breitbart] A Senate Judiciary Committee report released Saturday revealed that committee investigators interviewed a man who described a sexual encounter with Christine Blasey Ford that shared similarities to the one she claimed she had with Supreme Court Brett Kavanaugh.

According to the report, a man ‐ whose name is redacted ‐ told committee investigators in an interview on September 26, 2018, that when he was a 19-year-old college student, he had visited D.C. over spring break and kissed a girl he believes was Christine Blasey Ford. According to the report:
He said that the kiss happened in the bedroom of a house which was about a 15-to 20 minute walk from the Van Ness Metro, that Dr. Ford was wearing a swimsuit under her clothing, and that the kissing ended when a friend jumped on them as a joke. [Redacted] said that the woman initiated the kissing and that he did not force himself on her.
The man’s description of his encounter with Ford is similar to the one Ford alleged she had with Kavanaugh in three ways.

First, the man said the incident took place in the bedroom of a house that was near the Van Ness Metro station, which is located in Northwest Washington, DC, near the border of Montgomery County, Maryland. Ford claimed the incident with Kavanaugh took place in a bedroom of a house in Montgomery County.

US troops dispatched by Trump install razor wire on Mexico border in 'political stunt' days ahead of midterm elections
[Independent] US troops dispatched by Donald Trump to the US-Mexico border have started erecting fences and laying out razor wire, a purported defence against Central American migrants, but which have been dismissed as a "political stunt" on the eve of midterm elections.

Images from the US border town of Hidalgo, Texas, located on the banks of the Rio Grande, show armed soldiers normally based at Fort Riley, Kansas, erecting fences and laying rolls of wire close to the site of the McAllen-Hidalgo International Bridge. The troops ‐ the first of an anticipated 7,000-strong deployment ‐ were from the 97th Military Police Battalion, according to a Getty photographer.

Mr Trump has in recent days vowed to send thousands of troops south to help secure the border against what he has termed a possible "invasion" of migrants from countries such as El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala, all of which suffer from chronic levels of violence and grinding poverty.

The Hesco units with concertina is also good, especially if you use the dirt from in front of it to form a ditch (I would like to fill the ditch with razor sharp spikes... but that violates a rule of law somewhere).

But again, Hesco are designed to stop bullets and shrapnel and honest people. If unmanned, the enemy can go under, over or through 'em. They are just wire, cloth and dirt after all.

The reality is, even with a high tech wall it will take people and dogs patrolling it 24/7 and with underground sensors to detect people traffic and digging. There isn't any real way around it.

Law requiring a birth certificate to register to vote advances to appeals court
[Wash Times] The debate over how to sift out illegal voters from legal ones has reached the federal appeals court level, making it possible the Supreme Court eventually will rule whether a state can demand a birth certificate to register to vote.

The case before the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver centers on a 2011 Kansas law, the Documentary Proof of Citizenship (DPOC). In June, a district court judge struck down the law, with biting criticism of analysts who contend a large number of noncitizens nationwide vote illegally, tilting close elections to Democrats. Judge Julia A. Robinson said the Kansas legislation violated federal law and the 14th Amendment guarantee to equal protection.

The law, which requires proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote, is vigorously defended by Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, a nationally known Republican locked in a tight governor’s race. His own primary battle was so close the state attorney general cited it in a brief to the 10th Circuit as a race that could be influenced by illegal votes.

A backdrop is this: the U.S. count of noncitizens is growing. A Yale study says there may be twice as many immigrants living in the U.S. illegally ‐ 20 million ‐ than other analyses have found. That means the population of immigrants, most of whom are over 18, has reached 30 million. The U.S. has about 245 million residents 18 and older.

Amid Tuesday’s elections for control of Congress, conservatives and liberals have starkly different views. The right say thousands break the law by voting, while liberal scholars say the count is so small as to be statistically zero.

FBI seeks info on woman identified as Democratic volunteer after Georgia voter system attacked
[Wash Examiner] The identity of a person being scrutinized by the FBI after Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp launched an investigation into the state's Democratic Party over "possible cyber crimes" has been revealed.

An official from the office of Kemp, who is running as the state's Republican gubernatorial nominee, told ABC-affiliate WSB-TV on Sunday the FBI was seeking information regarding a woman named Rachel Small as part of the probe.

Georgia Democrats, who have called the inquiry into the supposed unsuccessful hacking attempt on the state's voter registration system Saturday evening a "political stunt," were quick to respond to the report on Twitter.

"BREAKING: Team Kemp is losing their minds," the Democratic Party of Georgia tweeted. "Rachel Small is a volunteer for the Democratic Party of Georgia on our voter protection hotline. She received an email from a man named Richard Wright. She forwarded Richard's email to our voter protection director. Sorry, @BrianKempGA."

You're Not Hearing Anything About "Abolish ICE" This Week, Are You?
[Hot Air] Have you noticed a certain silence among not only Democratic candidates but their supporters in the streets and their enablers on cable news and in newspapers? Oh, they’re all still making plenty of noise, but there’s one thing you’re not hearing. Screeching Harpies Vow 'No Sex!' Unless Men Vote for Democrats
[PJ] Since scratching and beating on the doors of the Supreme Court had zero effect on keeping Justice Brett Kavanaugh off the court, the ladies of the left have decided to go with a new tactic: a sex strike! That's right, fellas, you're all out of luck with the #Resist girls. Author Wednesday Martin has penned an essay at CNN called "What if Women Went On a Sex Strike Before the Midterms?"
It's time for a revolution. At the polls, and in the bedroom. And in our understanding of who women are, sexually and otherwise. Given the tight interweaving of economic and political power with sexual entitlement, female sexual autonomy has never been more urgent, and women's sexual pleasure has never been more political. Let's consider what it might mean to go on a sex strike of sorts -- to get what we want, rather than give what we think we owe others.
It seems the Democrats have finally got their bumper sticker for 2018: "Zero F*cks for Anyone. #Resist"

What's revolutionary about women using sex to get what they want? And worse, aren't feminists supposed to reject femininity and female wiles in favor of more equal ways of advancing? I'm confused. Didn't we just have a whole #MeToo campaign against the casting couch? A female willing to trade sexual favors in exchange for stuff is exactly the kind of girl Harvey Weinstein was looking for.

Obama aka Bath House Barry goes crazy on the campaign trail
[American Thinker] Is there anything more pathetic than an ex-president, who ought to be writing his memoirs and establishing a genuine presidential library for the study of his administration, is instead campaigning at a midterm like he's still running for president?

Well, here he is, President Obama, making a fool of himself:

As Drudge Report notes, citing American Mirror, his voice is actually cracking.

Which I suppose happens when you campaign too much before half-empty stadiums and union halls.

The man's time has passed, yet it's obvious he's desperate to still stay relevant, so now he's sounding crazy.

He may indeed want Democrats taking the House in a bid to Get Trump, given that Trump has dismantled his sorry legacy.

But there is probably something more going on than just that: Obama has openly stated he regretted that he was never able to run for office against Trump due to term limits. (He got the crotchety John McCain and the smooth, avuncular Mitt Romney instead, but no stimulating opposition challenge such as Trump.) Trump's a take-no-prisoners, break-all-the-niceties-rules authentic outsider who could give Obama a run for his money, and Obama, the ultimate insider, obviously finds that exciting.

Examining the Migrant Horde- Pt 2‐The Power Behind the Horde by Bill Reader
Part 1 can be read here.
[Sarah Hoyt] Today, we dive headfirst into the logistics of the migrant horde. If you missed my prior article on examining the improbable reporting on the speed of this group, you can find it here. On today’s docket, a discussion of how this group is organized, who is supporting it including what specific organizations and individuals have been named so far, and other logistical errata. Still to be discussed in a future article, the surprisingly tricky question of how many people, and what kind of people, make up the migrant horde.

I’m going to focus most of this article on examining certain key players. Barolo Fuentes, a Honduran socialist who was one of the frontmen for this caravan, and his friends in the LIBRE party; Pueblo sin Fronteras, a project of the Chicago-Based 501c La Familia Latina Unida; and a brief look at Venezuela, recently highlighted by Vice President Pence and currently in the spotlight as a possible funding source for all this.

We’ll begin with the man purported to have started it all‐ Bartolo Fuentes. First, the official story. My first introduction to him was an article published by The Daily Beast. It’s a characteristically ideologically stilted article. They report caravan #1 as being touched off by a false report that Fuentes would pay all expenses of people traveling North. I quote: "The anchors interviewed a woman who was supposedly part of the caravan. The woman talked about safety in numbers, called Fuentes the organizer and mentioned foreign assistance. The anchors, without any supporting evidence, then said that Fuentes would pay for the migrants’ food and transportation." Fuentes himself took to the media to counter this false report. The theory runs that the safety in numbers alone, however, still offered an attractive alternative for long-standing holdouts, as Coyotes are very expensive.

Fuentes is described as a "Honduran Lawmaker" by Reuters and a "Social Activist" by NBC. I would call that an intentional mischaracterization. Let me add a couple of things from the Daily Beast article that explain that in more detail. First, his involvement in prior "caravans": "When Fuentes first became aware of small groups dispersed throughout Honduras that were organizing among themselves to make the trek north, he decided to help out, just as he had done with a previous migrant caravan last April‐and indeed throughout his life". So, this wasn’t just nondescript social activism, but someone who has deliberately and repeatedly assisted specifically with illegal immigration. Now, let me sweeten the deal with the other interesting fact‐ " ... Bartolo sought refuge in Mexico himself after receiving threats. Central America’s right-wing death squads were notorious and his earlier participation in protests against the U.S.-backed Contras, who used his country as a staging ground in their CIA-backed war on Nicaragua’s Sandinistas, made him a potential target.". I find that fascinating. Those "death squads" were often as not "revenge squads". That he had a target on his back makes it likely a more apt description for Mr. Fuentes would be "Honduran Socialist".

Ken Starr: I haven't seen Trump commit anything 'close' to an impeachable offense
[The Hill] Former independent counsel Ken Starr said that he has not seen President Trump commit any offense that is "even close" to being impeachable.

John Catsimatidis in an interview airing Sunday on AM 970 in New York asked Starr, who led the investigation into former President Clinton's sexual misconduct with Monica Lewinsky, if Trump had committed any "impeachable offenses."

"Not even close," Starr replied. "I know of no evidence ... that would suggest that [Trump] has committed high crimes and misdemeanors."

"You can hate the way he tweets ... you can disagree with his policies ... but be very careful before you move the country toward impeachment," he added. "It’s inherently divisive."

Starr has increasingly appeared on cable news shows over the past year to discuss special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.

The former independent counsel added that there was not a consensus over impeaching Clinton.

Big Lines for Trump Macon, GA Appearance Four Hours Prior to Rally
[Breitbart] MACON, Georgia ‐ Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams may be a media darling, but Georgia still appears to be Trump country based on the size of early crowds for a rally President Donald Trump is hosting on behalf of Abrams’ opponent Brian Kemp.

A rally of this magnitude for a midterm election is unprecedented in Republican-leaning Georgia. However, Abrams is considered to be a legit contender in this gubernatorial election, and even brought in the star power of Oprah Winfrey to campaign on her behalf.

Trump’s appearance in Georgia is part of a late-midterm election cycle push that includes a stop in Chattanooga, TN tonight and stops in Cleveland, OH, Fort Wayne, IN and Cape Girardeau, MO on Monday.

'SNL' Mocks ‘Gross' GOP Candidate Who Lost His Eye to an IED Blast
[Newsbusters] Since the Vietnam War, liberals have been known for their great disdain for America’s service members, despite their efforts to hide it. During NBC’s latest edition of Saturday Night Live, that disdain poked its ugly head out in the form of supposed comedian Pete Davidson mocking Republican congressional candidate and former Navy SEAL Dan Crenshaw about the eye he lost to an IED blast while serving in Afghanistan, "or whatever" according to the funny man.

The vile attack came during the SNL’s faux news segment "Weekend Update" where Davidson was mocking multiple Republican politicians for their looks. The comedian stated he’d "realized there are some pretty gross people running for office this year". When a picture of Crenshaw was put on the screen, co-star Michael Che blurted out: "Oh, come on, man!"

"Hold on," Davidson told him. "You may be surprised to hear he's a congressional candidate from Texas and not a hitman in a porno movie," he ridiculed Crenshaw to the uproarious laughter of the liberal crowd. "I'm sorry, I know he lost his eye in war or whatever."

Military commander at Libya’s Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous Operation survives assassination
[Libya Observer] The deputy chief of the Sirte Protection and Security Force (SPSF) Ali Erfida was targeted by an liquidation attempt on Sunday in al-Khums city as he was heading to Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, front man of SPSF Taha Hadid said.

Erfida was sent to al-Khums Hospital and his health condition was very critical after his car was shot at by button men.

According to local sources from al-Khums, Erfida’s body suffered several wounds and had to undergo a surgery to stop bleeding.

"There should be a swift and thorough investigation into the incident." The SPSF said in a statement.

Erfida is from al-Khums city. He was a navy officer but left to be part of al-Bunyan al-Marsous operation in the fight against ISIS, then he became a part of the SPSF.

Al-Khums is suffering from lack of security and a heavy presence for gangs with extreme ideologies such as Salafism-Madkhalism.

Armed groups also control most vital institutions and facilities in al-Khums such as the port.

’s speech on Wednesday; yet another government has capitulated to violent religious Lions of Islam who neither believe in democracy, nor the Constitution.

Perhaps the PTI government will argue that an agreement negotiated with the protest leaders does not make illegal concessions and the government has only pledged to let the law ‐ and the appeals process ‐ take its course.

But the law had already taken its course and an innocent woman was to be set free after a hellish, near-decade-long ordeal. It is the protesters against whom the law now needed to take its course.

Yet, the woman expressly declared innocent by the highest court in the land is to be kept in legal limbo, while the protest leaders have had to issue a half-hearted, one-line apology seemingly added as an afterthought to the agreement reportedly signed last night.

Perhaps Prime Minister Imran Khan and his government decided that, despite Mr Khan’s nationally televised address this week, a hands-off approach that allowed the protesters to vent their rage would allow the country to return to a semblance of normality quicker than a confrontational approach and potentially bloody festivities between the protesters and law enforcement. And perhaps the murder, possibly liquidation, of Samiul Haq
...the Godfather of the Taliban, leader of his own faction of the JUI. Known as Mullah Sandwich for his habit of having two young boys at a time...
last evening caused some in the government to panic and recommend a swift end to the original protests before JUI-S supporters possibly erupted into the streets.

But what is already apparent is that the first-time governments of the PTI at the centre and in Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

are struggling to coordinate, decide policy and implement decisions.

Indian minister turns on own party over killing of man-eating tiger
[DAWN] An Indian cabinet minister accused a party colleague on Sunday of ordering the "ghastly murder" of a tiger and vowed legal action after the man-eating animal was shot in the country's west.

The big cat blamed for killing more than a dozen people was rubbed out on Friday night after a months-long search, capping one of India's most high-profile tiger hunts in decades.

But the shooting in the forests of Maharashtra state sparked immediate controversy and allegations the kill was unethical and illegal.

Maneka Gandhi, a staunch animal activist and part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet, accused the state forest minister of hiring a "trigger-happy shooter" to slay the tiger.

"It is nothing but a straight case of crime", said Gandhi, a member of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), describing the shooting as a "ghastly murder".

"I am definitely going to take up this case of utter lack of empathy for animals as a test case. Legally, criminally as well as politically," she posted on Twitter.

She accused the state's forest minister Sudhir Mungantiwar ‐ also from the BJP ‐ of ignoring appeals to call off the hunt for the tiger known officially as T1 and popularly as Avni.

The Supreme Court had issued a hunting order for T1 in September, ruling that she could be killed if tranquilisers failed.

Several appeals were made against the death sentence.

Forestry officials acknowledged to Indian media that no vet was present during the hunt, as required by the Supreme Court order.

The Indian branch of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said the tiger slaughter was about "satisfying a hunter's lust for blood".

The big cat was blamed for 13 deaths since June 2016 but animal activists said she was trying to protect her young.

The deep swamp: 1 year ago
[Spectator.uk] Bill and Hillary Clinton are not unlike Lord and Lady Macbeth. For the better part of twenty-five years these two sociopathic liars have tainted everything they touched, going back to Travelgate, Whitewatergate and covering-up Bill’s sexual improprieties. Perhaps the title of Christopher Hitchens’ 1999 opus ‐ No One Left to Lie To ‐ said it best, except that Hillary’s subsequent time as US senator, Obama’s foreign secretary and Democratic presidential candidate has given Team Clinton a whole new generation of Americans to dupe.

Those who agree to serve the power couple’s blind ambition invariably find themselves corrupted. Take, for instance, the Democratic National Committee. After Hillary Clinton’s defeat in the 2008 primaries against Barack Obama, Team Clinton made sure that such a mishap would not be repeated. In August 2015, we are now informed, Hillary Clinton effectively bought the services of the DNC, the very organisation meant to ensure the primaries were on the level. Bernie was burned, but then fair is foul and foul is fair. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, for her part in rigging the primaries in favour of Clinton, had to resign in disgrace as chairperson of the DNC in July 2016. Her interim replacement, Donna Brazile, was later sacked by CNN when WikiLeaks exposed her having emailed Hillary the questions to be used in a town hall debate with Sanders.

Donna Brazile’s confession of guilt, after months of denial, sounded like something straight out of Hillary Clinton’s playbook: ’The DNC, a political party committee dedicated in part to defending free and fair elections, was attacked by the Russians while the Republican nominee for president openly encouraged it.’ In other words, how come John Podesta’s computer was hacked and not the chairman of Donald Trump’s campaign? Julian Assange, who continues to insist that the source of his pre-election WikiLeaks revelations was not Russian but American, had this to say about the identity of Podesta’s hacker: ’John, you used "Runner4567" and "p@ssw0rd" as passwords. Are you sure it wasn’t Barron Trump, a blind dog or a plate of lobster risotto?’

2016 was a big surprise for Democrats. And the loss of close to a thousand Democrat Party political Offices across a spectrum of fifty States as well, governorships and Legislative. And nobody believes CNN or NBC for their News anymore. What are the "Polls" worth?

The Democrats themselves don't believe in the "Polls". And the mystical "Blue Wave" ?

But the democrats are going to "win the House". Its a sure thing.

I am Voting on Tuesday and the American Voter is not stupid.

Egypt police kill 19 involved in Coptic monastery attack; Ministry, gov’t pays compensation
[AlAhram] Egyptian police have killed 19 button men involved in an ambush that killed seven Coptic Christians south of Cairo two days ago, the interior ministry said.

Security forces tracked the "terrorists" who belong to a cell that carried out the attack to a hideout in a mountainous region west of Minya governorate, where Friday's attack took place, the ministry said in a statement published on its official Facebook page on Sunday.

The men were killed in a shootout after they opened fire on security forces as they approached them, the statement added.

The ministry published photos of bloodied bodies with their faces concealed and assault rifles and shotguns lying beside them.

Gunmen on Friday opened fire on two buses carrying Christians near the Monastery of St Samuel the Confessor in Minya, some 260 km south of Cairo, killing seven and wounding 18 others. Six of those killed were of the same family.

The attack, the latest in a series of assaults targeting the country's Christian minority, was claimed by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group, according to the group’s Amaq news agency.

The group was also behind another attack that killed 28 people in almost the same spot in May 2017.

Egypt social solidarity minister orders EGP 100,000 for families of martyrs in Minya terror attack

[AlAhram] Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Wali ordered on Saturday EGP 100,000
...that’s US$5581.29, a little below Egypt’s average yearly salary...
compensation for the families of those killed in the terror attack on a bus carrying Coptic Christians to Saint Samuel the Confessor monastery in Upper Egypt's Minya on Friday.

The minister also ordered EGP 50,000
...slightly less than six months of an average Egyptian’s salary...
compensation for all victims who were seriously injuried and EGP 2000
...one week’s salary...
for all others injured in the attack.

The terror attack killed seven Copts and left 10 injured.

Minister Wali and Minister of Health Hala Zayed visited the injured victims at Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Cairo's 6th October district early Saturday.

All the injured were first transported to local Minya hospitals before some were transported to Sheikh Zayed hospital.

Minister Zayed said in brief statements on Saturday to state TV that all injured victims conditions are stable.

She added that some of the injured have undergone surgeries and will be released soon from the hospital.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pie fight, Bella opened her mouth at precisely the wrong moment...
Wali stressed that her ministry is following up with the victim’s families to ensure that all their needs are met.

The will to counter extremism
[DAWN] COUNTERING extremism is not an easy job, but the state’s lack of resolve makes it even more complex and challenging. The resolve to stand up to extremism should draw its strength from the Constitution and the socio-ideological constructs of state and society. Mere rhetoric or a statement ‐ such as the one issued by Prime Minister Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who who convinced himself that playing cricket qualified him to lead a nuclear-armed nation with severe personality problems...
on Wednesday ‐ cannot manufacture that much-needed and much-awaited resolve unless the state is willing to review the social contract.

Recent state-led and independent policy discourses on countering extremism have emphasised addressing the key question of religion, which is integral to the issue of identity in Pakistain. The state has outsourced both religious and national identity narratives to different religious actors, who use them to expand their influence in society.

Iraq
Blasts across Baghdad kill six people, say sources
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Explosions in several Shiite-majority districts in Iraq’s capital late Sunday killed six people, most of them civilians, and maimed several others, police and medical sources said.

In northern Baghdad’s Aden roundabout area, two non-combatants were killed and another six maimed by a blast near a bus stop, the sources told AFP.

A bomb in the nearby Tarmiyah neighborhood targeted an military convoy, killing a soldier and wounding two others.

A government employee was killed in the southwestern area of al-Sahha when explosives attached under his car were detonated, according to a police officer and medical source.

In the eastern district of Sadr City, two people were killed and four maimed in two kabooms in the conservative Shiite neighborhood.

And two other blasts went off on busses in other parts of Baghdad’s northeast, wounding seven.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for any of the kabooms.

Sadr City is the former bastion of the Mahdi Army, which fought US troops and was blamed for the killings of thousands of Sunni Moslems.

The militia was led by Shiite holy man Moqtada Sadr, whose political alliance triumphed in this year’s parliamentary elections.

Violence peaked in Iraq during 2006 and 2007, when sectarian tensions were at their highest.

But it has fallen across Iraq and particularly Baghdad since the government declared victory over the ISIS myrmidon group in December.

Clandestine myrmidon cells remain across the country and have waged guerrilla-type attacks against government posts.

ISIS says hits Syria’s Raqqa with car bomb
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A boom-mobile went kaboom! near a military position in Syria’s Raqqa on Sunday, local authorities and a war monitor said, and ISIS hard boy group said it was behind the blast.

The blast came a day after the liquidation of a local council leader in the city, the former Syrian capital of the krazed killer group’s self-declared caliphate, which was seized a year ago by US-backed Kurdish-led fighters.

Raqqa security forces said a civilian had been killed and several people, including civilians and fighters injured. The war monitor, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said the blast caused "a large number" of casualties.

ISIS said in a statement that it had detonated the bomb, targeting fighters from the Kurdish YPG militia, the strongest element in the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) group that drove the Lions of Islam from Raqqa last year.

The SDF is battling ISIS fighters in one of their last patches of territory in Syria, along the north bank of the Euphrates river close to the Iraqi border.

The Lions of Islam took advantage of bad weather on Sunday to attack SDF positions, killing a dozen fighters, the Observatory
reported.

Syrian state television

reported on Sunday that the Syrian army was assaulting the hard boys’ other remaining pocket of ground in the desert area in Sweida province in southern Syria.

About 56 percent of voters rejected secession in Sunday's poll, with turnout above 80 percent among the more than 174,000 voters registered to take part in the ballot.

French President Emmanuel Macron said the "majority" of New Caledonians had declared they wanted the territory to "remain French".

The archipelago, a cluster of islands home to about 270,000 people, is situated nearly 17,000km southeast of La Belle France.

Fighting breaks out in Libya’s Sabratha

...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
) Omar Abdeljalil said they had thwarted an attack by gangs that was trying to control the city.

Abdeljalil told news hounds on Sunday that the gangs tried to enter Sabratha from the southern part but "our forces managed to foil the attack," adding that they lost nobody and none of the fighters were maimed.

High alert was announced in Sabratha Educational Hospital after maimed persons started arriving in there.

Local sources reported that fighting broke out Sunday morning between Salafist Brigade "Al-Wadi" which is under the umbrella of Anti-ISIS Operations Room that is controlling Sabratha and forces headed by Brigade 148 led by Ahmmed al-Dabbashi (A.K.A. al-Ammo) which were trying to enter the city.

"Clashes were reported in Sabratha’s Jafara district in the southern part of the city against forces of Military Council of Sabratha led by al-Taher al-Gharabli." An official at the city’s security department said, adding that study in schools was suspended and students were sent home due to the festivities, besides closing shops and state institutions due to exchange of fire started by "sleeper cells."

The Head of the military council, al-Gharabli, has not yet commented on the festivities.

Meanwhile,
...back at the revival hall, the SWAT team had finally arrived...
several media outlets linked the attack Sunday with the threats made previously by the western military zone’s commander Osama al-Juwaili who vowed to drive out Sabratha the Salafist al-Wadi Brigade.

However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
the western military zone did not comment on the festivities.

'Help us': Aasia Bibi's husband in Pakistan appeals for asylum
[Al Jazeera] The husband of a Pak Christian woman acquitted in a blasphemy case has pleaded for international help to leave the country, saying he feared for his family's safety.

The request on Sunday by Aasia Bibi's husband, Ashiq Masih, came a day after he criticised a government deal with far-right Tehrik-e-Labbaik Pakistain (TLP) that left her in legal limbo, and called on authorities to protect her.

Bibi, 53, who had been on death row since 2010 on blasphemy charges, was acquitted by the Supreme Court on Wednesday.

Her acquittal triggered massive protests by TLP, which paralysed parts of the country for three days, blocking roads and disrupting traffic.

The government reached a deal on Friday to end the protests by agreeing to put Bibi on an "exit control list", and saying it would not object to Moslem groups appealing the verdict.

An appeal has been filed with the top court against Bibi's release.

'HELP US'
Masih criticised the government deal, saying it was "wrong".

"I request [US] President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
to help us leave [the country], and I request the prime minister of the UK to do their level best to help us, to grant us freedom," Masih said in a video message, according to news agencies.

"I also request the prime minister of Canada," he said.

Wilson Chowdhry, of the British Pak Christian Association, told the AFP news agency that Masih also wants asylum for some members of his extended family.

"The daughters are weeping. They still haven't seen their mother. The family is totally shattered," he said.

Masih's appeal came a day after Bibi's lawyer fled Pakistain on Saturday, also citing threats to his life.

"In the current scenario, it's not possible for me to live in Pakistain," Saif-ul-Mulook told AFP before boarding a plane to a European country.

Maulana Samiul Haq
[DAWN] IN the midst of countrywide protests called by leaders of various religious parties, Maulana Samiul Haq
...the Godfather of the Taliban, leader of his own faction of the JUI. Known as Mullah Sandwich for his habit of having two young boys at a time...
, one of the pre-eminent figures in Pakistain’s religio-political landscape, was stabbed to death on Friday at his house in Rawalpindi.

From the facts that have emerged thus far, it appears that a 10-minute window afforded by the absence of the maulana’s attendant from the scene was used to carry out the crime.

An investigation is yet to determine the motive for the attack, whether it was on account of personal enmity or driven by larger political objectives.

It may also reveal whether the killing coincidentally happened to occur during a period of domestic turmoil, or whether it was designed to take advantage of the charged situation on the streets, perhaps even exacerbate it.

Chief of his own faction of the JUI, the maulana was a vital cog in Pak-Afghan politics since the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, even though his influence may have been somewhat on the wane.

His madressah in KP, Darul Aloom Haqqania, is known as ’jihad university’ for its role in churning out thousands of jihadis to fight the invading forces ‐ first the Russians, then the US ‐ and counts many well-known faceless myrmidons including Mullah Mohammad Blinky Omar

In fact, even former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani
... Pakistain's former prime minister, whose occasional feats of mental gymnastics could be awe-inspiring ...
sought the maulana’s help to intercede with the Afghan Taliban when they had kidnapped Mr Gilani’s son.

More recently, he had given public support to the PTI’s anti-polio

vaccination campaign in KP ‐ a creditable stance given that polio vaccinators were considered legitimate targets by violent Death Eater outfits at the time.

However,

Madagascar ex-presidents in final bid to return to power
[PULSE.NG] Two former Madagascar presidents drew tens of thousands of supporters to rival rallies in the capital Antananarivo on Saturday as they entered the final stretch of their election campaign.
Former President Marc Ravalomanana and rival Andry Rajoelina are frontrunners in the November 7 ballot in Madagascar, where protests earlier this year erupted over a government attempt to reform electoral rules.

The election pits Ravalomanana against the man who ousted him from power in 2009 in a military-backed revolt that left the Indian Ocean island state internationally isolated and later struggling with a legacy of bitter political division.

Ravalomanana filled the capital's Mahamasina suburb with his supporters dressed in white, his campaign colour. His rival Rajoelina, head of state from 2009 to 2014, packed out Antsonjombe stadium, a few kilometres away.

"Since you have not been able to achieve anything during your tenures, it is now up to me to realise it and to do more," Rajoelina told his supporters, referring to Ravalomanana and most recent president, Hery Rajaonarimampianina.

Attack on FSB in Arkhangelk - a black swan’ threat to Putin regime
[EuromaidanPress] At first glance, the attack on the FSB building in Arkhangelsk appears to be but one of a series of similar terrorist acts in the Russian Federation, Natalya Gulevskaya says; but a closer examination of the personality of the criminal, his motives, and his modus operandi show that it is something far more serious.

Indeed, the Russian commentator suggests, it is “a black swan” event of the kind that suggests the Putin regime has now passed “the point of no return” because the powers that be have created a situation which has “given birth to the first terrorist attack with political motives against the anti-constitutional actions of the authorities.”

Russia has a rich history of revolutionaries and political terrorists, Gulevskaya points out; but “never before has there been a political terrorist act carried out not in the struggle for power or against the anachronistic norms of the Basic law of the state but against the actions of officials who have violated the rights and freedoms of the individual.”
“This is a very concerning sign both for the ruling powers that be and for the entire population,” she says. “The Putin regime has not been able to create an ideology which could justify not only the seizure and usurpation of power but also the appropriation of the financial potential of the state.”

Thus, this action marks “the beginning of the end of the construction of the Chekist state and already in the near future we can expect a conceptual shake up or the latest wave of the collapse of the empire.”

Three other commentators also suggest that the Arkhangelsk bombing involves more than meets the eye. Israeli analyst Avraam Shmulyevich on the After Empire portal says that it represents the shift from “Muslim terrorism” to “Russian political terrorism” and from attacks on civilians to attacks on the state.

The Arkhangelsk bombing, he observes, has its predecessors: “the Primorsky partisans, the blowing up of monuments, the burning of official buildings of the FSB and United Russia [party], and the periodic shooting of policemen.” Now, clearly, it is the turn of “the Russian North, ‘which never knew serfdom.’”

Shmulyevich says it is especially noteworthy that
“the terrorist did not put forward any specific demands. That makes this action typical political terrorism or even a civil war, no longer just terrorism but a war with the system as such.”

Igor Eidman, a sociologist who works as a commentator for Deutsche Welle, suggests that what happened in Arkhangelsk is the rebirth of the Narodnaya volya or SR [Socialist Revolutionary Party – Ed.] movements of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. All the conditions are in place for this both in society and the state, for new revolutionaries and for new secret police spies like Azef.

And commentator Mikhail Pozharsky says that the Putin regime has brought this on itself. “If you ban legal politics and persecute people for peaceful action, this will lead to radicalism. If you create ‘terrorists’ out of innocent people with the help of torture, then sooner or later it will come into someone’s head to carry out a real terrorist act.”

Paralysed state
[DAWN] THIS is not the first time the Pak state has been cowed by a violent mob and surrendered its writ in favour of those who challenged it so blatantly. In a functioning democracy with a constitution in place, it would be unheard of for a government to agree to take action on a case that has gone through due process of appeals and been decided by its supreme court.

But not in a state that is so given to paralysis at the hands of a violent mob. Such a state would continue to bury its head in the sand. How many more times will our state pretend that nothing is wrong by censoring the media and shutting down networks, effectively rendering millions of its citizens without due and timely information it is entitled to have, and choking press freedom by dictating censorship of violent protests in the country.

Such apathetic apology of violent mobs also impacts private and public property directly; it causes billions in losses by paralysing business activity, impacts educational institutes’ functioning, causes ambulances to have no way of reaching a hospital, and spreads fear, panic and confusion amongst citizens who are guaranteed freedom of speech, right to information and freedom of movement by virtue of the social contract that makes its existence possible.

All citizens are entitled to a range of fundamental rights. They have the right to express dissatisfaction over a judicial case, they have the right to come out and protest, and they have the right to demand a different course of action by the state. However,
facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable...
it should be absolutely unacceptable to directly incite violence against the already persecuted religious minorities and all state institutions, to call for guards killing those they are employed to protect, and all over a case of a false accusation.

Khashoggi's body parts transported in suitcases: Report
Not acid? Okeydokey then.
[Al Jazeera] Jamal Khashoggi's body was dismembered and put into five suitcases after he was strangled upon entering Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
's consulate in Istanbul last month, according to a report by a Ottoman Turkish pro-government newspaper.

Citing unnamed officials, Sabah reported on Sunday that the suitcases were then taken to the Saudi consul-general's residence near the consulate the day the journalist - a critic of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman
...Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia as of 2016....
, also known as MBS - was killed on October 2.

The officials said that Maher Mutreb, Salah Tubeigy and Thaar al-Harbi were the three key figures from a 15-member hit squad reportedly involved in dismembering Khashoggi's body and removing it from the premises.

Mutreb was a direct aide to MBS, while Tubeigy was the head of the Saudi Scientific Council of Forensics and a colonel in the kingdom's army.

Al-Harbi was reportedly promoted to lieutenant in the Saudi royal guard last year for bravery in the defence of the crown prince's palace in Jeddah.

Sabah's report came 48 hours after Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
said he believed that the order to kill the journalist came from the "highest levels" of the Saudi state.

Al Jazeera's Andrew Simmons, reporting from Istanbul, said on Sunday the latest information added detail to the picture being formulated by Ottoman Turkish prosecutors who say Khashoggi was strangled and dismembered soon after entering the building.

2 more cases registered against protesters in Islamabad
[DAWN] Islamabad police on Sunday registered two more cases against protesters who staged sit-ins for three days against the acquittal of Asia Bibi by the Supreme Court.

Yesterday, the Interior Ministry announced that it would register cases against all those "miscreants who, under the guise of peaceful protests, caused destruction to property and harmed helpless citizens" during the nationwide protests.

The cases registered today include charges of terrorism and violence against police.

The total number of cases registered against protesters in Islamabad has risen to four.

On Friday, the government and the TLP reached an agreement which led to the wrapping up of protests across the country.

Bahrain opposition chief gets life in jail over Qatar spy case
[PULSE.NG] Bahrain sentenced the head of the country's Shiite opposition movement to life in prison Sunday for spying for rival Gulf state Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
in a ruling rights groups have called a travesty.

Sheikh Ali Salman, who headed the now-banned al-Wefaq movement, and two of his aides had been acquitted by the high criminal court in June, a verdict the public prosecution appealed.

The public prosecutor said in a statement that the three had been unanimously sentenced by the appeals court for "acts of hostility" against Bahrain and "communicating with Qatari officials... to overthrow constitutional order".

Bahrain, along with Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and the United Arab Emirates, severed all ties with Qatar in 2017, banning their citizens from travel to or communication with the emirate over its alleged ties to both Iran and radical Islamist groups.

Sunday's verdict against the charismatic Shiite holy man can still be appealed.

Ruled for more than two centuries by the Sunni al-Khalifa dynasty, Bahrain has been hit by waves of unrest since 2011, when security forces crushed Shiite-led protests demanding a constitutional monarchy and an elected prime minister.

Opposition movements, both religious and secular, have been outlawed and hundreds of dissidents have been imprisoned -- many of them stripped of their citizenship in the process.

'UNLAWFUL VERDICT'
Salman's al-Wefaq was dissolved by court order in 2016.

Another opposition group, the leftist National Democratic Action Society, or al-Waad, was banned the following year over allegations of links to terrorists.

Salman is currently serving a four-year sentence in a separate case -- "inciting hatred" in the kingdom.

Human rights groups have said cases against activists in Bahrain -- men and women, religious and secular -- fail to meet the basic standards of fair trials.

Advocacy groups like Amnesia Amnesty International slammed Sunday's ruling against the 53-year-old Salman and his aides, Hassan Sultan and Ali al-Aswad as political reprisal.

Indian mother killed with daughters for failing to produce male child
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Women bearing girl babies continue to be treated with disdain in the eastern Indian state of Bihar despite billions having been spent on launching campaigns to generate awareness about the fair sex.

Sounds strange but torture of women producing girl child goes on unabated in the sate even in this jet age, mocking the much-flaunted "Save Girl Child Campaign" or the "Selfie With Daughter" campaigns.

The issue triggered public debate again when a woman was burnt alive along with her two little daughters by her in-laws earlier this week just because she had failed to bear male child, highlighting the acute gender discrimination.

Victim Pushpa Devi, 40, was married to Manoj Soni, a resident of Siswar village in Kaimur district, some 20 years back. During this period, she was able to produce only two daughters but no male child, ultimately leading to tension in the family.

With her in-laws hell-bent on having a son at all cost, her husband took her to various doctors and also sought helps from exorcists to ward of any "evil spirits" if any gripping the woman but to no avail. Eventually, her husband decided to get rid of the lady who was unable to fulfill his wishes.

On Wednesday night when the entire world was sleeping, her in-laws soaked the woman and her two daughters aged eight and five with kerosene oil and set them afire after apparently gagging them, police said. The victims prayed for mercy by the accused continued watching them going up in flames until they had fallen lifeless.

BILLOWING SMOKE
The incident came to light when local villagers saw the balls of smokes billowing from the house and a stench of burning human flesh filling the air. Subsequently they informed the police. However,
facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable...
by the time the police arrived on the scene, all the accused persons had expeditiously departed at a goodly pace.

"They (in-laws) had been torturing my sister for long for not producing a son but we had never imagined this fancy would turn out to be so deadlier one day," victim’s brother Santosh Soni told the police after registering a case with the police. Woman’s husband, his mother and sister were made named accused in the case.

The killing of girl babies or their mother for the very reason is nothing new to Bihar. Only this weekend, a newborn baby girl was buried alive in Banka district by her parents but thanks to local villagers the baby could be saved after seven hours.

The villagers rescued her after hearing her shrill cries coming out from the grave and when they dug out the grave they were amazed to see a barely month-old baby battling for survival inside. They soon rushed her to the local health center where she was given immediate medical treatment. The baby is safe now but her parents are still to be searched.

Another such horrible tale was reported in March this year from Vaishali district where the parents killed their seven-month-old daughter by throwing out from the roof of the house. Even more horrible story was reported from Samastipur district where a family killed their six-day-old baby girl by dumping her into toilet tank. The incident took place in January this year.

INJECTING POISON
Last year, a man from Bhagalpur district had injected poison into his infant girl as she didn’t want girl child while a man from Nawada district even handed out divorce to his wife for giving birth to a girl.

One of the women got so much frustrated at her routine tortures at the hands of her in-laws that she ultimately poisoned her three daughters aged three and eight to death before ending her own life by consuming poison. The incident took place in Gaya district in May this year.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Amid renewed tension, US forces patrol Syria’s northeast near Turkish border
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] US forces on Sunday patrolled an area in northeastern Syria bordering The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
after renewed tensions between Ankara and Syrian Kurds, a front man and an AFP news hound said.

Three armored vehicles carrying soldiers wearing the US flag on their uniform arrived in the Kurdish-held northeastern border town of al-Darbasiyah, the correspondent said.

Turkey last week raised threats against Kurdish forces in northeastern Syria, shelling their positions and flagging a possible new offensive.

The Kurds spearhead the Syrian Democratic Forces alliance, backed by the US-led coalition that has been fighting ISIS krazed killer group in Syria.

Coalition front man Sean Ryan said Sunday’s patrol was the second in a week, after a first one by US forces on Friday.

"The US forces’ assurance patrols enable us to maintain safety and security in the region," he said, but are not carried out "on a regular basis".

An SDF front man said the US patrols, in coordination with the SDF, were directly linked to recent tensions between the Kurds and Ankara.

"They are not routine patrols. They are directly linked to these threats. The objective is to call on Turkey to stop its aggression," Mustefa Bali said.

Sunday’s patrols were headed towards Ras al-Ain, around 50 kilometres (30 miles) to the west of al-Darbasiyah along the frontier, he said.

The US State Department has said it had been in touch with both the SDF and Turkey to push for de-escalation.

Turkey accuses Syria’s Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG)- which form the backbone of the SDF- of being "terrorists".

In what appeared to be an attempt by Washington to appease Turkey, US and Ottoman Turkish troops on Thursday launched joint patrols on the outskirts of the northern city of Manbij.

Although the YPG claim to have pulled out of the city after the SDF seized it from ISIS in 2016, Ankara has recently complained that the group still has a presence there, repeatedly threatening military action.

On Sunday, Assad held talks with Russian envoy Alexander Lavrentiev on "forming the committee to discuss the current constitution", the presidency said in a statement.

They agreed "to continue joint Syrian-Russian work towards removing the obstacles still in the way of forming this committee", it said.

Jimmy Buffett takes musical shots at Republicans in West Palm Beach show
[OrlandoSentinal] Florida music legend Jimmy Buffett supported the Sunshine State’s Democratic ticket on Saturday, performing a free concert in West Palm Beach and changing lyrics to take shots at Gov. Rick Scott and President Donald Trump.

The singer embraced Democratic gubernatorial nominee Andrew Gillum and U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson on stage after they delivered brief speeches urging the Parrot Head crowd at Meyer Amphitheater to vote on Tuesday.

"These are your guys," Buffett said. "This is your ticket. ... There are better days ahead."

He then breezed through some of his best-known hits drawn from the Florida landscape. He started the show with "Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes," noting that it fit with the event’s theme.

He then breezed through some of his best-known hits drawn from the Florida landscape. He started the show with "Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes," noting that it fit with the event’s theme.

On "Margaritaville," he changed up the lyrics to take aim at Nelson’s opponent ‐ "Some people claim there’s a red tide to blame, but I know it’s all Rick Scott’s fault."

He sang during "Come Monday" that "it’s been two insane years, and it’s time to really switch gears." He ab-libbed during "Volcano" that he didn’t want to "land on no Mar-a-Lago." Trump’s Palm Beach estate is just across the Intracoastal Waterway from the venue.

The crowd wore shirts reading "Gillum for governor," "Dump Trump" and "Nevertheless She Voted." They danced during Buffett’s performance and chanted "bring it home."

The candidates delivered short speeches ‐ not wanting to keep the audience from Buffett’s tunes.

Gillum, who is mayor of Tallahassee, acknowledged the shooting Friday at a yoga studio in his city that left two people and the shooter dead and five others injured. Gillum briefly left the campaign trail to meet with two people who had been wounded.

He said he talked with one person who had suffered six bullet wounds and another who had a bullet go through her back, collapsing her lungs, when she was in a down dog yoga position.

"It only for me underscores what we have to do just three days from now when we send an unapologetic message to the NRA that their time is up in the state of Florida," Gillum told the crowd. "Enough is enough. ... My opinion is simple: If you want the power of God at your waist belt, you ought to at least have a background check."

Nelson, who is vying for a fourth term in the Senate, came on stage dancing to "Eye of the Tiger." He said, "You are here today because you know what is at stake."

Republicans shot back, issuing a statement saying Nelson and Gillum haven’t accomplished anything "to make Florida a Parrot Head paradise."

"No amount of time ’wasted away again in Margaritaville,’ can erase that," said Taryn Fenske, a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee.

Some in the crowd came for politics, but others just wanted to catch a free Buffett show.

Alice Josaphouitch, 67, of West Palm Beach, wore a button that read, "Parrot Heads for Gillum."

"I am here for democracy," she said. "I think it’s a shame the way things are going."

But Joe Berger, 62, of Lake Worth, said he was mainly interested in the show. He said he’s seen Buffett at least 10 times, dating back to the 1970s.

"It’s feel-good music," he said. "Southern lifestyle. No cares. No worries."

Buffett is no stranger to politics. On Aug. 23, he performed a free show in Hollywood to support former U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham, who lost in the primary to Gillum.

Buffett told the crowd he’s feeling optimistic about Election Day.

"There will be a party Tuesday night," he said. "I promise."

Yemeni army makes strategic gains east of Hodeidah
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Yemeni armed forces made strategic gains on Sunday after reaching al-Saleh city east of Hodeidah as fierce battles are being fought beyond the Kilo 19 area.

The Yemeni Defense Ministry said that those advances were made by the national army’s elite unit- the Giant Brigades- and local forces known by the name Tihama Resistance- loyal to Yemeni President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi and fighting alongside the Arab coalition backing the legitimate government.

The national army also took control of the "Yemen

Mobile" roundabout, gaining control of the faculty of Engineering in the city.

The Yemeni army battled the Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. militias on the southern entrance of Hodeidah after an offensive operation launched from al-Manar district.

Fierce battles also continue in several axes amid military field progress.

According to military sources, the Houthi militias suffered dozens of deaths and injuries among their fighters, as well as the destruction of ammunition and military equipment.

Earlier in the day, sources reported that a senior Houthi field commander was killed along with 15 other bandidos gunnies in festivities with the Yemeni army in Hodeidah.

Kateryna Handziuk: Ukraine activist, 33, dies from acid attack
[Al Jazeera] Kateryna Handziuk, a 33-year-old Ukrainian anti-corruption activist and political adviser, died on Sunday after suffering critical injuries from an acid attack in July.

Handziuk, who was an adviser to the mayor of Kherson and critic of local police, sustained severe burns to more than a third of her body after she was sprayed with a litre of sulphuric acid outside her home in the southeastern city of Kherson.

She had been battling the injuries in a hospital in Kiev, where she underwent 11 operations.

Five suspects have been detained for their alleged involvement, but no further information has been released about who ordered the attack.

From her hospital bed and covered in burns, Handziuk had recently called on the government to probe rising attacks on activists.

Police initially listed the case as "hooliganism" but after public uproar changed it to "attempted murder committed with extreme cruelty".

Local and international human rights
...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state...
groups have recorded more than 55 unsolved attacks on activists - including Handziuk - since the start of 2017.

President Petro Poroshenko on Sunday called on law enforcement agencies to do "everything possible" to find and punish Handziuk's killers.

But campaigners say his remarks are too little, too late.

Marya Guryeva from Amnesia Amnesty International Ukraine told Al Jazeera: "The situation is getting worse and has been for about a year now. Many attacks have been identity-focused - committed by far-right groups against LGBT and Roma people. But now we see they are happening against anti-corruption activists too."

Natalia Shopavlova, a Ukraine expert from Carnegie Europe, told Al Jazeera: "Activists campaign against corruption, they name the names of people who are behind illegal construction. Those people are not happy and they try to shut up the activists."

In one case, on October 4, politician Sergiy Gusovsky was doused with antiseptic liquid and beaten in Kiev City Council following his speech at a rally.

Gusovsky told Al Jazeera he was attacked because he opposed various investment agreements, highlighting his work in challenging the construction of 25 buildings in Kiev's Echo Park for ecological reasons.

UFO over Islamabad
[DAWN] THE private Israeli jet that is supposed to have flown to Islamabad last week caused as much excitement as a flying saucer with flashing red and blue lights.

This is the tweet from Avi Scharf, editor of the English version of Haaretz, the leading liberal daily in Israel, that set the cat among the Pak pigeons: "Israeli bizjet flew from TLV to Islamabad #Pakistain, on the ground for 10 hours, and back to TLV."

More interesting than the account of the flight is the reaction it triggered in Pakistain: political parties across the spectrum condemned the event while the government denied the possibility of an Israeli plane entering Pak airspace. However,

Govt will not turn blind eye to protesters' inciteful statements, asserts Fawad Chaudhry
[DAWN] Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry while addressing a presser in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
on Sunday warned that the government would not turn a blind eye to, nor forget, the inciteful speeches made by religiopoliticians during protests against the acquittal of Asia Bibi last week.

"No one should have the impression that the government will forgive this behaviour," he said. "The impression that this government is weak will be removed as we take further action."

"The way that our people's property was damaged, the way that judges of the top court, the Pakistain Army and the government were ─ the kind of speeches that were made, the government will not ignore or forget them," Chaudhry asserted.

"Although the issue was resolved via a strategy, we will not forget the people who were involved," he said.

"This is not a matter of religion, it is related to rebellion. Should the state ignore mutiny? The credibility of a state that ignores rebellion is questionable. Therefore, we cannot turn a blind eye to it."

"The way the Constitution, the people, the politicianship, the military and judiciary were held in contempt, it is unlikely that we will forgive it," he added.

"We've seen that being in government has its challenges. Dealing with those challenges is our day-to-day responsibility. There are people who sit 'outside' [the government] who think they can give all the solutions, but the choices that are available to you are not so broad," he explained.

Israel raids office of Palestinian Jerusalem governor
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Israeli forces raided the offices of the Paleostinian governor of Jerusalem on Sunday, authorities said, after reports of an investigation related to a land sale.

Israeli authorities confirmed the raid in al-Ram, just on the other side of Israel’s separation wall from Jerusalem in the occupied West Bank, but provided few details.

It came after Israel’s detention of the Paleostinian governor, Adnan Gheith, on October 20. He was released two days later.

The Paleostinian Authority’s (PA) Jerusalem affairs minister, Adnan al-Husseini, told AFP that Israeli forces confiscated documents and material during the raid.

The same building houses his ministry and the governor’s office, both of which he said were raided in the first such Israeli action.

Paleostinian government front man Yusuf Mahmud said it was a "dangerous escalation of the occupation and a flagrant violation of all international laws and agreements".

Israel’s Shin Bet domestic security agency said in a statement a joint raid with police and the army was over "illegal activity by the PA in Jerusalem".

It said "various materials were seized which will be examined by security bodies."

Asked to specify which illegal activity, the Shin Bet said only that all the Paleostinian Authority’s activity in Jerusalem was illegal.

Military official: We reject any initiative to unify Libya’s army with Haftar included
[Libya Observer] The chief of military intelligence at al-Bunyan al-Marsous forces Mohammed al-Ganidi said "honorable military officials" reject the results of Cairo meetings that aim at unifying the Libyan military institutions.

Al-Ganidi told news hounds on Thursday that the rejection is based on the leaked information that says "the retired colonel and dual citizen as well as war captive" would be heading the Libyan army, besides the fact that the meetings were held in Egypt which is "an enemy to Libyans and supporter for Haftar and his militias in their crimes in Benghazi and elsewhere - like the crime of al-Abyar where 36 persons were slaughtered."

He also said that countries like Egypt, UAE, and Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
which support militias cannot help form a Libyan military institution, citing UAE’s aircraft that take off from Khadim airbase in Marj town to strike civilians in Derna without Libyan authorities’ knowledge.

"Initiatives to unify the military institutions must come from inside Libya. We met in Misrata two years ago and several officials came even from eastern Libya to come up with an agreement on the matter but the Presidential Council hindered it and so did Fayez al-Sirraj by disallowing a meeting in Mittiga and Misrata airbases." He explained.

He also indicated that they need a Libyan National Army that is concerned with securing the country’s borders and respects peaceful power circulation as February 17 revolution days, rejecting any discussions that involve Khaifa Haftar and his militias.

Jerusalem’s Catholic leaders seek repeal of Israel’s Jewish nation-state law
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Senior Catholic holy mans in Jerusalem called Sunday for Israel to repeal a controversial law giving Jews a "unique" right to self-determination in the country.

"We must draw the attention of the authorities to a simple fact," bishops and archbishops of the Roman Catholic, Syrian Catholic, Armenian Catholic and Greek Melkite churches said in a joint statement.

"Our faithful, the Christians, our fellow citizens, Moslem, Druze and Baha’i, all of us who are Arabs, are no less citizens of this country than our Jewish brothers and sisters."

The nation-state act was passed by parliament in July and forms part of Israel’s basic laws- a de facto constitution.

It speaks of Israel as the historic homeland of the Jews and demotes Arabic from its former status as an official language.

Because it omits any reference to equality or the country’s democratic nature, Israeli Arabs say it will legalize discrimination.

There were widespread Arab protests after it passed into law and some Jewish politicians said it should be amended.

President Reuven Rivlin said the act "in its current version is bad for the state of Israel and bad for the Jews".

Arabs account for some 17.5 percent of Israel’s nearly nine million population.

"Christians, Moslems, Druze, Baha’i and Jews demand to be treated as equal citizens," said the letter which was also signed by the Maronite archbishop of Cyprus and the Greek Melkite archbishop of Petra, in Jordan.

"We, as the religious leaders of the Catholic Churches, call on the authorities to rescind this basic law and assure one and all that the state of Israel seeks to promote and protect the welfare and the safety of all its citizens."

Jordan says Israel wants to discuss border land deals
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Jordan said on Sunday, that Israel had asked for consultations on a special land deal agreed in their peace treaty that the Jordanian government wants to end.

Under the peace treaty, two border areas were recognized to be under Jordanian illusory sovereignty but gave Israel special provisions to use the land and allow Israelis free access.

Jordan formally notified Israel two weeks ago it would not renew the 25-year deal over Baquora where the Yarmouk River flows into the Jordan River and in the Ghumar area in the southern Wadi Araba desert where Israeli farmers have large plantations.

Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi told Rooters after the decision the kingdom was waiting for Israel to invoke a provision in the peace treaty to hold consultations after giving notice before the deadline.

Petra state news agency quoted government spokeswoman Jumana Ghunaimat as saying Jordan had received the Israeli request but did not say when the discussions would begin.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged Jordan’s move and said his country sought to enter negotiations on the possibility of extending the arrangement.

The 25-year special regime would be automatically renewed unless either of the parties notified the other a year before expiry that it wished to terminate the agreement.

Safadi said the deal, which was signed in November 1994, had been conceived as a temporary arrangement from the start. The kingdom had contemplated the move for a while before the Nov. 10 deadline.

King Abdullah, who stressed the territories were Jordanian lands and would remain so, said the move was made in the "national interest" at a period of regional turmoil.

Jordan is one of only two Arab states that has a peace treaty with Israel and the two countries have a long history of close security ties. But the treaty is unpopular in Jordan where pro-Paleostinian sentiment is widespread.

We currently assess this airstrike killed four (4) Death Eaters.

We currently assess no civilians were maimed or killed in this airstrike.

The airstrike was conducted after armed turbans were maneuvering to attack partner forces during a patrol. No U.S. service members were present on the ground during this Somali-led operation.

U.S. forces will continue to use all authorized and appropriate measures to protect U.S. citizens and to disable terrorist threats. This includes partnering with AMISOM and Somali National Security Forces (SNSF) in combined counterterrorism operations and targeting terrorists, their training camps, and their safe havens throughout Somalia and the region.

International Criminal Court: Saif Gaddafi, Mahmoud Al-Werfalli must surrender
[Libya Observer] The Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Fatou Bensouda requested the UN Security Council to help urge Libyan authorities apprehend and surrender Saif al-Islam Qadaffy - son of Moamar Qadaffy- and the commander of Saiqa Force of Haftar-led forces Mahmoud al-Werfalli, as well as former head of Qadaffy’s Interior Security Agency al-Tuhamy Khalid.

Bensouda told the Security Council that ending impunity of runaways is very vital for the security situation in Libya.

"Surrendering runaways to the ICC is very challenging. There can be no justice made to the victims until the criminals are surrendered to the court." She remarked.

"In June Mr. Qadaffy argued that, because of ongoing domestic proceedings conducted against him in Libya, he cannot be tried at the ICC: this argument is rejected by the Court and the case, said Ms Bensouda, remains admissible: because Mr Qadaffy’s challenge is currently sub judice," she added.

Bensouda also said that Saif Qadaffy is just one of several individuals in Libya whose alleged criminal acts could fall within the jurisdiction of the ICC.

"On the 5th of June this year, Mr Qadaffy filed an admissibility challenge submitting that his case is inadmissible before the ICC. Significantly, in his challenge, Mr Qadaffy states that on or around the 12th of April 2016, he was released from custody of the Abu-Bakr al-Siddiq Battalion in Zintan, pursuant to an amnesty law. Mr Qadaffy also argues that as a consequence of the domestic proceedings conducted against him in Libya he cannot be tried at the ICC." Bensouda’s statement reads.

She added that for the reasons set out in my written response to this admissibility challenge, filed on the 28th of September 2018, she argued that Saif Qadaffy's case remains admissible before the Court.

#1  The warrant of arrest for Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi was issued on 27 June 2011. He is not in the Court's custody. Case also involved charges Muammar Gaddafi and Abdullah Al-Senussi in warrant issued on 27 June 2011. Case against Abdullah Al-Senussi was declared inadmissible on 11 October 2013. Case against Muammar Gaddafi was terminated on 22 November 2011, following his death.

#2  Seif may yet return to power.

That would certainly prove interesting for all concerned. Is he intelligently vicious enough to hold power once it is given to him, Chereting Pelosi1889? I realize he has a PhD, but as that was purchased for him, it isn’t terribly meaningful (not that it was necessarily meaningful anyway, but that is a different discussion).

#4  Trailing wife: In the year prior to the Arab Spring Seif served as his father's point-man in his relation with the Salafists. He was then considered a natural leader and the obvious successor to his father. Captured, he has been kept alive. Apparently there are those who consider him still a viable candidate to unite a fissiparous Libya.

Khadim Hussain Rizvi's Twitter account suspended
[DAWN] Tehrik-e-Labbaik Pakistain (TLP) Chief Khadim Hussain Rizvi's Twitter account has been suspended by the social media platform.

Upon visiting the handle @KhadimRizviReal, a notification 'Account suspended' appears.

The account's profile picture and tweets have all been removed.

The error notification states the account has been suspended "for violating Twitter rules".

This development comes less than 12 hours after Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari, via Twitter, shared that Pakistain Telecommunication Authority had been "asked to do this [request for suspension of Rizvi’s account] by the relevant minister on Friday", expressing shocked that "it hasn't happened".

Later, Mazari tweeted that the information minister had informed her that Twitter had refused the request.

The government had reportedly requested Twitter to suspend Rizvi's Twitter handle on account of threatening the state and its institutions, after several activists and citizens posted on Twitter calling on users to report Rizvi’s account.

Sharia Law: Is Its Goal to Subjugate Humanity?
[Clarion Project] A legitimate question about sharia law is: Is its goal to subjugate humanity?

The concept of self-governance under sharia law by Muslims in Western society has been a topic of controversy since the turn of the millennium, especially in light of the World Trade Center attack on September 11, 2001.

Proponents of sharia in the West, under which many Muslims seek to settle personal affairs ‐ such as divorce, custody of children and inheritance ‐ claim it is an exercise of their freedom of religion, a human right.

YET, WHAT IS SHARIA?
Sharia literally means the "way" or "path." Historically articulated, it is a shorthand term for an amorphous body of legal rulings, judgments and opinions, assembled over the course of many centuries after the Muslim Prophet Muhammad’s death. It is based on the Quran and a copious number of hadiths (the sayings and acts of Muhammad) developed by the fuqaha (jurists) whose opinions enjoy an almost absolute authority over the faithful.

As a rule of law, it precludes the development of human reason as it is viewed as an expression of Allah’s inscrutable will. It is this same supremacy that renders sacred and permanent the concept of inequality between the Islamic community and the non-Islamic community, between the Muslim and the non-Muslim, and between man and woman.

There are two essential weaknesses of sharia, due to which the Islamic social realm has been absorbed into the whims of the political one: its autonomy and its incompletion. As a codification of customs, it does not depend on any official body (state or clerical), and therefore there is no universal concordance on its legislation within the Islamic body politic.

Amazon may place its second headquarters in Arlington, Virginia
[engadget] Amazon appears to be close to picking a city for its second headquarters ahead of its end-of-2018 deadline. Washington Post sources said the internet giant had "advanced discussions" about placing the coveted location in Arlington, Virginia's Crystal City neighborhood. The company's talks were "more detailed" than in other locations in the state's northern region, the insiders said, and there's been a "lot of activity." The main real estate developer in Crystal City (JBG Smith) has even taken some buildings off the leasing market, while officials have talked about how they would make an announcement later in November.

Amazon, JBG Smith and relevant politicians declined to comment.

While this makes the choice sound like a lock, those involved are reportedly cautious. They're concerned there might be similarly advanced talks in other cities, and that Amazon could still choose another location despite all the signs. Investors, relocation experts and political leaders see the wider Washington region (including Arlington) as a strong candidate, though.

It might not even be the only choice. CNBC contacts said that Amazon's final pick might come down to either northern Virginia or Austin, Texas, and might even involve a split between the two. Austin is already a major technology hub with companies like Apple, Dell and Google operating in or near the state capital.
