There's No Going Back. The G.O.P. Is Trump's Party.
[NYT] Donald Trump’s conservative critics have one last hope: defeat. If Republicans suffer humiliating defeats in the midterm elections, they suggest, President Trump will get the blame. Influential donors and grass-roots Republicans will turn on him, and the party will get back to normal. Not so long ago this was the party of Paul Ryan and free trade. This was the party of George W. Bush and compassionate conservatism. This was a party whose self-performed autopsy after the 2012 election called for more minority outreach. After Mr. Trump, why can’t the Republicans be that party again?

The ranks of anti-Trump Republicans grow thinner by the day. They’re retiring from Congress. They’re writing memoirs blasting their former friends. But they hold out hope for the future. If the Republican Party could undergo such a profound change in personality and policy thanks to just one man in a mere three years, who’s to say it can’t change back? The Trump coalition seems so impermanent, after all, a motley mix of Southern evangelicals, businessmen who think like the Chamber of Commerce and disaffected white voters from the Rust Belt. Throw in foreign-policy hawks and anti-interventionist America Firsters, and Mr. Trump’s Republican Party looks like an impossible contradiction. It can’t last. Can it?

Yes, it can. In fact, the party that President Trump has remade in his image is arguably less divided and in a better position to keep winning the White House than it has been at any time since the 1980s. What Mr. Trump has done is to rediscover the formula that made the landslide Republican Electoral College victories of the Nixon and Reagan years possible. Mr. Trump’s signature themes of economic nationalism and immigration restriction are only 21st-century updates to the issues that brought the Republican Party triumph in all but one of the six presidential elections between 1968 and 1988.

Great Moments in Progressivism: Hungary 1956
On November 4, 1956, Soviet tanks rolled into Budapest to crush, once and for all, the national uprising. Vicious street fighting broke out, but the Soviets’ great power ensured victory. At 5:20 a.m., Hungarian Prime Minister Imre Nagy announced the invasion to the nation in a grim, 35-second broadcast, declaring: "Our troops are fighting. The Government is in place." Within hours, though, Nagy sought asylum at the Yugoslav Embassy in Budapest. He was captured shortly thereafter and executed two years later. Nagy’s former colleague and imminent replacement, János Kádár, who had been flown secretly from Moscow to the city of Szolnok, 60 miles southeast of the capital, prepared to take power with Moscow’s backing.

Sense of Entitlement Fuels Increasingly Violent Pedestrian Invasion Forces
[Townhall] "Daddy, I don’t want a Volkswagen. I want a BMW. And I want it NOW!"

This attitude is grating enough among spoiled teenagers. Even worse, this sense of entitlement permeates the pedestrian invasion forces ‐ euphemized as "migrant caravans" ‐ now marching up from Central America, through Mexico.

Undetermined thousands of illegal aliens, largely from Honduras and El Salvador, have broken into Guatemala and then broken into Mexico. They intend to break into America. Last month, news cameras caught them swamping the gate that separates Guatemala’s Ciudad Tecun Uman and Mexico’s Ciudad Hidalgo. They banged on the barrier, and down it came. A wave of humanity rushed forth, like floodwaters pouring through a ruptured levee on the mighty Mississippi.

Hondurans are poor, and their nation is no hotbed of hope. Most of these people seek to brighten their life prospects. But the path to greener pastures must be legal. These people all should stand down, retreat, and apply for visas at the embassies of the countries to which they wish to emigrate. No land ‐ not least the USA ‐ is obligated to accept these people. They have no right to live anywhere else without their destination nation’s permission.

A complex set of international customs and legal precedents holds that those in distress should seek relief in the "first country of asylum" safe enough for them to take refuge. International law does not recognize a right for those fleeing chaos or squalor to shop from one nation to the next, as if they were homebuyers who skin up their noses at houses A and B and demand house C.

Seem to notice, that not one of those festering holes ever demonstrates on the behalf of direct intervention to remove the ruling caste who generally own and operate the place. And that the ruling caste usually follows the policy of "its better to rule in hell than serve in heaven". Something they share with 'Progressives'.

The Almighty Condemns Washington DC After Being Unable To Find Ten Righteous People There
[Babylon Bee] WASHINGTON, D.C.‐The city of Washington has declared a state of emergency after the Almighty condemned the city, being unable to find ten righteous people anywhere near the nation's capital.

Senator Ben Sasse attempted to intercede for the city after the Lord revealed his plans to smite the home of the federal government, begging the Lord to spare the city if even fifty righteous could be found among the "wretched hive of scum and villainy."

"Lord, what if there are fifty righteous there? Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked?" Sasse prayed, and God reportedly agreed to spare the city for even fifty. But after God was unable to find fifty, Sasse reduced the threshold to merely forty-five.

This continued until a desperate Sasse got all the way down to 10, and finally, the Nebraska senator relented from his pleading with the Lord, confident that the city would be spared.

But God could not find ten righteous people in the city, and the fire and brimstone started falling shortly after, with politicians and lobbyists fleeing the city in terror throughout the afternoon.

"I thought for sure that would work," Sasse said as he fled his office.

Black Violence: The Terror That Dare Not Speak Its Name
[American Thinker] Even stranger than Don Lemon’s fairy tale that white people are responsible for violent terrorism in this country, is the fact that no national conservative media figures refuted him.

A shame, because it is so easily done. And so important to do.

Lemon concocted his claim in front of CNN’s Cuomo the Lesser, who stared dumbstruck as his colleague sketched his vision of white supremacists running amok with terror and violence in their wake.

Cuomo has made a career of shutting up and nodding his head when black people like D. L. Hughley come on his show and insist that white violence against black people is wildly out of proportion. A lie.

The following day, Lemon challenged his angry critics to check the numbers: White terror is eight times greater than other racial terror.

In response, all that we heard from conservative media was fake outrage. Calls for his firing. Demands for a retraction. But not much in the way of using facts to show that Lemon was wrong. Dangerously wrong.

Not that many people expected much else from most conservative pundits. These are the same people who cower in front of "It’s okay to be white" signs.

Well, it’s not okay to be white. That is Lemon’s stock in trade. And he and others ply it so well that most cannot see or even declare the obvious: That over the last five years, black mob violence in America has been -- by far -- the greatest source of domestic terror.

The Strange Allure of Pioneer Living - How Shaye Elliott became the Gwyneth Paltrow of America's growing homesteading movement
[The Atlantic] Running late after several wrong turns, I made a final, desperate attempt to locate Shaye Elliott’s home by driving into what appeared to be an apple orchard. Down a dirt path, past a gaggle of squawking geese, in the shadow of the town’s 10-story cross, there it was: the two-acre property outside Wenatchee, Washington, on which Elliott cultivates nearly all the food she feeds herself, her husband, and their four children. The Elliotts’ squat three-bedroom house, which they renovated themselves, was nestled among a pigpen, a rabbit hutch, a chicken coop, two pastures, and three gardens, the sum total of which Elliott refers to as her "homestead"‐a nod to the back-to-basics, pioneer-inflected movement that inspired her lifestyle.

Shortly after I arrived, Elliott started preparing breakfast. As she poached eggs taken from her coop and sizzled potatoes in fat rendered from ducks she’d slaughtered last fall, she recounted a recent trip to Los Angeles. She still seemed scarred by the experience. "I couldn’t bear it," she told me. "Everything smelled like Lysol and Febreze, and I was just like, ’Oh my gosh, the sound of the traffic!’ " That visit had admittedly been better than her previous one, when she ate "that kind of food"‐a restaurant salad prepared with conventionally grown ingredients‐and promptly threw up.

Elliott, who is 32 years old, "homesteads" not because it’s practical (it’s not) or because she grew up farming (she didn’t) but because, she says, modern technology "has stripped people of their purpose." In hopes of "drawing on and learning things of the past," she has for eight years rejected an increasing number of modern conveniences. Like the 19th-century homesteaders who traveled west in covered wagons, she churns butter, stocks her larder before winter, and treats illnesses with herbs. Unlike the pioneers, however, she enthusiastically broadcasts her life to an audience of Instagram followers, YouTube subscribers, book buyers, and 100,000 monthly readers of her blog, The Elliott Homestead. One of her chickens, Helen, has become a celebrity for antics like sneaking into the house to peck at butter. "You think these Instagram Stories are made up," Elliott said as a less famous chicken wandered through the front door. "Very much not."

Elliott belongs to a growing network of bloggers who have tapped into‐and fueled‐the growing homesteading movement, which encourages self-reliance through the embrace of traditional skills and subsistence farming. A homesteader seeks to "be a producer and not just a consumer," Elliott said. (She and others distinguish themselves from farmers in harvesting food solely for their own needs, not to sell.) The appeal of this retro-agrarian lifestyle transcends ideological differences, uniting farmwives and feminists, hippies and Christians, preppers and yuppies, from Brooklyn to rural Alaska. Despite its ostensible rejection of consumerism, the subculture has spawned a brisk trade in homesteading-themed TV shows, books, gear, and courses. Last year, the inaugural Homesteaders of America conference drew 1,500 attendees‐more than twice the expected turnout‐and organizers expect hundreds more this year.

#2  Elliott, who is 32 years old, "homesteads" not because it’s practical (it’s not)

Author is obviously oblivious to 4,000 year of human history. Being cocooned in an urban environment that never exited till about 100 years ago does that to you. You believe history started with your birth. It's been less than a hundred years that more people live in metro areas than rural areas.

What makes homesteading harder today than a hundred years ago is property taxes leached to sustain the non-productives in the urban areas. You have to raise more than you need to just sustain you and yours, but to sustain a state that farms votes with other people's money.

A Llama Antibody Could Be the Key to a Universal Flu Vaccine
[BioSpace] Less than a week ago, Roche snagged regulatory approval for Xofluza, a single-dose oral medication, the first new flu treatment approved in 20 years. Now, new research indicates that llamas, the doe-eyed South American pack animal, may hold the key to flu vaccines.

The Los Angeles Times reports that a team from the Scripps Institute in Southern California has been able to take antibodies made by llamas and used them as the basis for a flu vaccine. The llama antibodies are effective enough to work on a wide number of flu viruses, according to the report. The Times reported that the Scripps researchers reported their findings in the latest issue of Science.

According to the article abstract, diverse camelid single-domain antibodies to influenza virus hemagglutinin were used to generate multidomain antibodies with impressive breadth and potency. In the study, the researchers used the multidomain antibody MD3606 in mice. They found that the antibody protected the mice against influenza A and B infection when administered intravenously or expressed locally from a recombinant adeno-associated virus vector.

"Collectively, our findings demonstrate that multidomain antibodies targeting multiple epitopes exhibit enhanced virus cross-reactivity and potency. In combination with adeno-associated virus‐mediated gene delivery, they may provide an effective strategy to prevent infection with influenza virus and other highly variable pathogens," the researchers said in the article abstract.

The researchers noted that flu vaccines are essential to prevent the spread of the virus, but the efficacy in them is "substantially reduced in the elderly, who are at increased risk of influenza-related complications." The researchers added that annual selection of vaccine strains presents many challenges and if the strains selected don’t match up against circulating viruses, the vaccines are not as effective. Most current flu vaccine-induced antibodies are directed against the highly variable head region of hemagglutinin (HA) and are strain specific, the researchers said.

Democrats Say Republicans Are Stealing the Midterms. Are They Right?
[Politico] COLUMBUS, Ga.‐Ed Harbison remembers Jim Crow. The segregated schools, the no-go theaters, the colored-only water fountains. The white supremacist siege of the First Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, where Martin Luther King, Jr., was trapped inside, and Harbison was, too. The white folks telling his mother she couldn’t vote unless she could answer how many beans were in a jar, or how wet water was.

Harbison is now a Democratic state senator from Georgia, and the Deep South has changed radically in his 72 years on its soil. Sometimes, though, he reflects on how it hasn’t changed‐like when he reflects on the high-profile race for governor pitting Stacey Abrams, a progressive African-American Democrat who used to run a voting rights nonprofit, against Brian Kemp, the conservative white Republican secretary of state who is mired in multiple voting rights controversies. Harbison is rooting for Abrams to become the first black woman governor of any American state, and Kemp’s efforts to purge voter rolls and challenge voter registrations in ways that disproportionately affect minorities bring back painful memories of the bad old days. "It’s a different time, but it feels like the same game plan," Harbison told me after an Abrams rally at Columbus State University.

Georgia is at the epicenter of a national movement for stricter voting rules in Republican-controlled states, and its battles over the ballot have become a national story about race and power in the South. But while Harbison is concerned that Republicans may be disenfranchising some black voters, perhaps even enough to swing a too-close-to-call governor’s race to Kemp, he thinks far more black voters disenfranchise themselves, sitting out elections they suspect are pre-determined to ratify the white power structure’s status quo. He tells his constituents, especially young ones, about the blood that’s been spilled to secure their right to vote, but many of them don’t believe their vote will count.

Europe
Approaching a Horrific Anniversary in Jewish History: Kristallnacht
[American Thinker] As Jews and people of conscience of all ethnicities reel from the horrors that took place at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, we once again approach another heinous epoch in Jewish history: the 80th anniversary of Kristallnacht. With that in mind, it's important to remember that Kristallnacht and its aftermath the Holocaust did not occur in a vacuum.

With the exception of insular Holocaust-deniers, most people have heard and recognize the unspeakable horrors and inhumanity Jews suffered all over Europe during this horrific period in time. However, not so many are familiar with the vehement anti-Semitism that permeated Eastern Europe and Russia at the dawn of 20th century.

Beginning in the 1880s and ending for the most part around 1922, there were three distinct, increasingly violent cycles of debasement committed against the Jewish people. In what is collectively known as pogroms, perpetrators on both the right and left took turns raping, murdering, and looting the property of helpless Jewish victims, lacking only in scale and organization what was to come a decade later.

If nothing else, the pogroms portrayed Jews as defenseless and their blood and property as easy pickings for marauding bands of mercenaries, a fact not lost upon later generations of Ukrainians and Russians at the dawn of the 20th century as well as Hitler and his Nazi cohorts in the 1930s.

Neo-Nazi Group targets its own?
[Daily Beest] Georgia’s Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams and Oprah Winfrey ‐ who supports Abrams and knocked on voters' doors for her this week ‐ were targeted in a racist robocall evidently funded by a neo-Nazi group on Friday. The voice on the robocall introduces herself as the "magical negro" Oprah, and calls Abrams a "poor man’s Aunt Jemima," and a candidate "white women can be tricked into voting for, especially the fat ones." The call claims it is paid for by TheRoadToPower.com, which previously funded racist robocalls against Florida’s Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum.

More than 4m Texans already voted - Beto back to flipping burgers soon
[Daily Caller] Millions of Texans have cast early ballots ahead of the Tuesday’s election as Republican Sen. Ted Cruz fends off his Democratic opponent, Rep. Beto O’Rourke.

More than 4,514,930 Texans have cast in-person ballots during the entire early voting period in the 30 counties where most of the state’s registered voters live. To put it another way, roughly 40 percent of the 12 million registered voters in those counties have voted.

Early voting in those counties surpassed turnout from the 2012 presidential election. Data compiled by the Texas Tribune also shows turnout over 12 days of early voting in those 30 counties also surpassed the entire turnout of the 2014 midterm election.

Polling data in Texas has been all over the map, with Cruz leading anywhere from nine points, to O’Rourke of El Paso ahead by two points. Yet, O’Rourke likely faces a much tougher task, according to some experts. He will need to pick off almost 20 percent of Cruz’s GOP base to win the election, Texas Politics Project Director James Henson wrote in an analysis in October.

#2  Ay Pee:

Nearly 4.9 million people voted in Texas’ 30 largest counties during the early-voting period, surpassing the total number of votes cast throughout the state in the last midterm election.

Texas secretary of state figures released Saturday found that more than 540,000 people in those 30 counties voted early on Friday, which was the last day of early voting in the state. Although Texas has 254 counties, the 30 largest are home to nearly 80 percent of the state’s residents.

The nearly 4.9 million early votes exceed the 4.7 million total votes cast in Texas in the 2014 midterm election

I can live with Beto flipping burgers for the next four years while he comes to better understand the needs and desires of Texan voters...

New York Times: ‘Best Time' for American Employees in Maybe 50 Years
[NYT] The New York Times said on November 2 that President Donald Trump’s high-pressure economy "is the best time for the American labor market in at least 18 years and maybe closer to 50."

In 1968, per capita wages and salaries grew by 6.65 percent, after inflation is included, and then it grew by another 5.4 percent in 1969, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Suspect in Vandalism Attack on New York Synagogue Is Democrat Activist
New developments on this story from yesterday.
[NYT of all places via Breitbart] James Polite, the 26-year-old man who was arrested Friday for allegedly vandalizing a synagogue in Brooklyn Thursday, is a Democratic activist who once worked for New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, and also volunteered for Barack Obama.
The New York Times reported Saturday:

Mr. Polite was arrested on Friday and charged with criminal mischief as a hate crime for writing "Die Jew Rats," "Hitler," "End It Now" and "Jew Better Be Ready" in marker on walls of the Union Temple of Brooklyn.

The police said surveillance video captured Mr. Polite, of Brooklyn, inside the synagogue.

He was taken into custody on Friday morning at the scene of a fire that had been set inside the coat room of Yeshiva Beth Hillel of Williamsburg, officials said.

Mr. Polite was charged with arson, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief ‐ all as hate crimes ‐ for setting fires at four other locations affiliated with the Jewish community, including another school. The police recognized Mr. Polite from the surveillance video at Union Temple.

The synagogue had been scheduled to host a Democratic Party event. The Daily Caller notes that Democrats, including New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, had used the vandalism in political messages ‐ until the arrest.

Florida imam: Palestine must be liberated, even at cost of millions of martyrs
MEMRI has a brief, subtitled video at the link.
[IsraelTimes] During a recent sermon at the Islamic Center of South Florida,
...once the religious home of former gang member and would-be Al Qaeda dirty bomber Jose Padilla (also known by his convert name of Abdullah al Muhajir), and no doubt of many others. Mr. Padilla is currently serving a 21-year sentence for being an awful human being with even worse friends...
a holy man called for the "liberation" of Paleostine, even at the cost of tens of millions of Moslem lives.

"If a land is occupied or plundered, it should be liberated from the occupiers and plunderers, even if this leads to the martyrdom of tens of millions of Moslems," said Hasan Sabri in a sermon last month translated Friday by the Middle East Media Research Institute.

"This is the ruling, and there is no room for discussion or concessions."

Sabri referred to "Paleostine in its entirety" as "Islamic land" and asserted that there is no difference between the land captured by Israel in the 1948 Independence War and the 1967 Six Day War. "All of it is Islamic waqf land that was occupied by force. The responsibility for it lies with the entire Islamic nation, and the [Paleostinians] should benefit from this land."

The Imam also criticized the yet-to-be-released peace plan of US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
. "They call it ’the Deal of the Century.’ Why do they call it a deal?’ Because whoever is involved in this treason is not a man of principles," Sabri said.

"These are peddlers, not men with a cause. All they want are positions and jobs. That is why for them, the cause is nothing but a deal, a matter of give and take. For them, it is nothing but a deal."

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Emerging Gaza ceasefire to significantly ease blockade
Possibly true, possibly fevered rumour — we must patiently wait and see. And then, if it is true, see how long it lasts before Hamas lets it all explode again...
[IsraelTimes] Lebanese daily says Egypt prepared to slash 70% of its own border restrictions under 3-year truce deal; Israel will be required to grant work permits and expand fishing zone

An emerging cease-fire agreement aimed at calming months of violence on the Israel-Gazoo border will last for three years and see a significant easing of the blockade on the Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw,-controlled territory, Leb’s al-Akbar newspaper reported Saturday.

According to the report, the deal being brokered by Egypt stipulates a gradual stop to the ongoing, Hamas-orchestrated violent border protests and maritime flotillas over the next two months. In addition, Hamas will be obligated to punish Gazooks caught engaging in violent demonstrating along the border with Israel.

In return, Egypt will permanently open its Rafah border crossing and lift 70 percent of its blockade on the Hamas-controlled territory, the report said, citing officials familiar with the emerging agreement.

Al-Akbar said the deal would require Israel to grant 5,000 work permits for Gazooks, and expand the Strip’s fishing zone from nine to 14 nautical miles.

Israel had no immediate comment on the report.

In addition, the paper reported the Paleostinian Authority would pay 80% of the salaries of Hamas officials in Gazoo, and would not object to Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
bankrolling those wages for at least six months, like it has in the past.

Within the framework of the agreement, the report said various economic projects in Gazoo would be advanced to create jobs for some 30,000 jobs and alleviate the humanitarian situation in the Strip.

The truce is slated to last three years and will be under the supervision of the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
and Russia. At later stage after the deal is implemented, al-Akbar said Egypt would work to advance a prisoner exchange deal between Israel and Hamas.

The report was released after Friday’s weekly protests along the Gazoo border saw a significant decrease in violence.

A senior Hamas member said the festivities were scaled down to give diplomatic efforts a chance amid talk of a breakthrough in months of Egyptian-led negotiations.

The official Twitter account of PA President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas

’s Fatah faction even posted a picture of what it claimed to be a member of the Hamas-run security forces forcibly preventing protesters from approaching the Gazoo border fence during Friday’s protests.

Cyber
Ahead of US vote, Twitter says accounts removed over 'disinformation'
[AlAhram] Twitter on Saturday said it deleted a "series of accounts" that attempted to share disinformation, ahead of crucial midterm elections, as media reports said thousands of accounts were axed.

The social media company "removed a series of accounts for engaging in attempts to share disinformation in an automated fashion -- a violation of our policies," it confirmed to AFP without giving a number.

Twitter said it has established "open lines of communication" for state election officials, Republican and Democratic campaign officials, and the Department of Homeland Security.

Reports said many of the accounts were posing as Democrats, posting tweets encouraging US voters to sit out Tuesday's ballot.

CNN said the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee had alerted Twitter to the accounts, which were removed in late September and early October.

For months, Twitter has sought to eliminate automated and bogus accounts designed to manipulate the public conversation on the platform, in response to concerns over Russian interference in the 2016 election.

In October it said its number of active users fell by nine million in the previous quarter as a result of these efforts.

US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
recently complained that Twitter was removing some of his followers.

Twitter apologizes for 'Kill all Jews' trending topic
Following this report from yesterday.
[TheHill] In a statement, a representative from Twitter said the phrase should not have appeared on the trending topic list and that "we’re sorry for this mistake."

"This was trending as a result of coverage and horrified reactions to the vandalism against a synagogue in New York," it said. "Regardless, it should not have appeared as a trend."

"At times, we do prevent certain content from trending and we have now done so with this trend."

BuzzFeed first reported on Twitter's statement.

The phrase began trending after it was discovered written inside of a New York City synagogue Thursday.

The New York Police Department said that and other anti-Semitic messages were discovered in the stairwell of the Union Temple in Brooklyn Heights.

"Broad City" star Ilana Glazer canceled a political event scheduled there Thursday night after the vandalism was found.

had promised to look into possible US measures against a Ottoman Turkish bank for evading sanctions on Iran.

The call came as strained relations between the two countries ease following The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

Erdogan said he raised the issue of the state-owned Halkbank, which had an executive charged in New York for taking part in a scheme to evade US sanctions on Iran.

Erdogan said Trump "said he would immediately instruct his ministers about this".

It was not clear what the US president could do, however.

Erdogan also said he expected to meet Trump in La Belle France next weekend, on the sidelines of a ceremony marking the anniversary of the end of the First World War.

Yemeni forces fire high-precision Badr P-1 ballistic missile at base run by Saudi mercenaries: Report
[PRESSTV] Yemeni army forces, supported by allied fighters from Popular Committees, have fired a domestically-designed smart missile at a position of Saudi-backed snuffies loyal to former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi in the country’s strategic western province of Hudaydah.

A Yemeni military source, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
, told Yemen’s Arabic-language al-Masirah television network that a short-range and solid-propellant Badr P-1 missile hit the designated target with great precision.

The source added that the missile strike left a large number of Saudi mercenaries dead or injured.

The development came shortly after dozens of Saudi artillery rounds and mortar shells rained down on residential neighborhoods in the Razih and Shada'a districts of Yemen’s northwestern province of Sa’ada.

There were no immediate reports about possible fatalities or the extent of damage caused.

Separately, Saudi military aircraft launched a series of Arclight airstrikes against Shada’a district, with no reports of casualties quickly available.

#6  M-1 Carbines...I've always wanted one, they are light and handy rifles, their cartridge is only anemic compared to a Garand or other battle rifle, but low recoil and more importantly I think it's made of wood which my wife prefers to my plasticy black rifles of DOOM (AR-10-Cause I only want to shoot 2-3 rounds, not half a mag:p Mine is a 16" carbine version, short but stout:D ) I'm very tempted by some of the newly built ones as I just want the rifle, not the history, got a garand for that:p

I'd love a subgun but that's not in the cards. Too expensive, too much legal hassle.

Of the three submachineguns I've shot, I liked the MP-5K the best. The A4 was heavier and the slower rate of fire was kind of annoying. The K was quite handy and fun. The 9mm Colt AR sucked. It was not fun to shoot. And reloading the mags was torture.

ISIS kills three Iraq village chiefs in a week in restive north
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] ISIS murderous Moslems have killed three village chiefs in less than a week in Iraq's restive north, local officials said Saturday, as the targeting of state representatives escalates.

Iraq declared victory against ISIS last year, but small jihadist cells still wage attacks, especially in mountainous areas like Kirkuk province.
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
There, ISIS has attacked state infrastructure and government officials, especially targeting local administrative heads known as "mukhtars."

The latest victim, on Friday night, was mukhtar of the village of Mahmudiya near the town of Hawija.
The town has long been a bastion of radical Sunni Moslem groups and was one of the last IS holdouts retaken by government troops last year.

Mahmudiya mukhtar "Abdallah al-Wasmi was executed by ISIS members who attacked his home," a local security official told AFP, using the Arabic acronym for ISIS.

His death followed the similar killing of the mukhtar of a nearby village, Hanutiya, late Wednesday.

And on Monday, a provincial official told AFP that "IS fighters attacked the home of Mohammad Jumaa, the mukhtar of the village of Jassemiya", also near Hawija.

"They took him out of his house and executed him in front of it before fleeing," the official said.

The recent killings bring to nine the number of village chieftains executed by ISIS in the past seven months in Kirkuk province.

Busy first week for Brazil's Bolsonaro
[PULSE.NG] Bolsonaro, who wants to slash the number of ministries from 29 to 15, has announced five cabinet picks so far, mostly political outsiders. Aides say 80 percent of the cabinet is already lined up.

-- Ultra-free market economist Paulo Guedes will head a "super ministry" combining the finance, planning, industry and trade portfolios.

-- Bolsonaro's military academy instructor, General Augusto Heleno, will be defense minister.

-- Astronaut Marcos Pontes, the first Brazilian in space, will be science minister.

-- Crusading anti-corruption judge Sergio Moro will be justice minister.

-- Seeking to balance the political inexperience of the rest, veteran politician Onyx Lorenzoni will be chief of staff.

Bolsonaro has gotten bogged down in controversy and backpedaling as he forms his government.

The president-elect's solution to all things economic is to put business world hero Guedes in charge -- but some warn his new "super ministry" is so big it will be "impossible to manage," as financial newspaper Valor put it.

#1  Brazil's military people are good people. I know some of them. They are disciplined, hard nosed, work hard and you don't mess with them.

A large city on the Amazon is not the cleanest, graffiti is every where. Until you drive past a walled military base/fortress in that city. There is no graffiti on the walls. Only towers every so often with guards in them holding chrome plated automatic weapons. The heavy chrome plating is there so people see those weapons glistening in the day light or night flood lights as a clear warning to any one who dares touch those walls.

The only people I saw near the walls on the outside was a stern looking sergeant standing over a privado (private) who was humbly picking blades of grass from between side walk panels one blade at a time. I truly believe "o privado" will not get into trouble again.

Capitão (Captain) Bolsonaro is exactly what S. America needs right now.

(An orphaned S. American jaguar raised by jungle warfare Brazilian military personnel on the Amazon.)

Man-eating tiger shot dead in India after massive hunt
[PULSE.NG] A man-eating tiger that claimed more than a dozen victims in two years has been rubbed out in India, sparking controversy over the legality of its killing.
One of India's most high-profile tiger hunts in decades ended Friday night when the mother of two 10-month old cubs -- known to hunters as T1 but Avni to wildlife lovers -- was rubbed out in the jungles of Maharashtra state.

A team of more than 150 people had spent months searching for T1, using a paraglider and dozens of infrared cameras while sharpshooters had ridden on the backs of elephants.

However disputes quickly erupted after the killing as media reports said the tiger was shot in Yavatmal forest with no attempt to tranquilize her.

India's Supreme Court had issued a hunting order for T1 -- blamed for 13 deaths since June 2016 -- in September, ruling that she could be killed if tranquilizers failed. Several appeals were made against the death sentence.

The tiger was killed at night, when tranquilizers are not allowed to be used, according to the Times of India and other media outlets.

T1 is said to have been rubbed out by Ashgar Ali Khan, son of India's most famous hunter Nawab Shafath Ali Khan, who was meant to be leading the hunt but was not present Friday night.

Forestry officials and the hunter did not answer calls to give details of the hunt.

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests A.K. Mishra told The Indian Express newspaper that a forest staffer had managed to dart the tiger with a tranquilizer at around 11.00 pm.

"But she charged at the team, forcing Ashgar to shoot in self-defence," he said. "The tigress lay dead in a single shot."

What distinguishes the sultanate from other countries that tried to have this same position is that it’s clear and it practices its illusory sovereignty in its political methodology publicly without hiding it and without maneuvering or even explaining itself to anyone. Oman has these relations with opposing parties for reasons that might not please others but that are enough for it.

Sri Lanka court orders arrest of military chief
[DAWN] A Sri Lankan court on Friday ordered the arrest the country’s top military officer over the abduction and murder of 11 people during the Tamil civil war.

Colombo Fort magistrate Ranga Dissanayake reprimanded police Sherlocks for failing to act on a previous order to detain Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne.

"The court ordered that the admiral be tossed in the slammer
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
before November 9," a court official said. "If they fail, there should be action against the police officer handling the case." The order came amid a bitter power struggle between sacked prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and former president Mahinda Rajapakse, who was named to replace him.

Rajapakse was head of state from 2005 to 2015 when the decades-old Tamil separatist war was brutally crushed ‐ although the timing of today’s ruling appeared to have no deliberate link with the current political crisis.

The magistrate wants police to arrest Wijegunaratne, the chief of the defence staff, for allegedly shielding a navy officer responsible for abductions and killings.

Police told the court the admiral had protected Chandana Prasad Hettiarachchi, a navy intelligence officer who is the main suspect in the killing of 11 men between 2008 and 2009.

They are believed to have been murdered while being illegally held by the navy. Their bodies were never found but Hettiarachchi was arrested in August.

"There is evidence of Admiral Wijegunaratne allowing the accused to evade arrest," Sri Lanka’s Criminal Investigations Department told the court.

'Rep. John Lewis Unhinged: Reminds Voters Of ‘Bloody Sunday' At Stacey Abrams Rally
[Huffpoo] Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) on Friday recalled the day known as "Bloody Sunday" ― when he and several hundred others marched the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Alabama in 1965 ― while campaigning for Stacey Abrams, the Democratic gubernatorial nominee in Georgia.

"I gave a little blood on that bridge in Selma, 53 years ago," Lewis told the crowd at a rally. "I almost died. Some of my friends and colleagues were murdered in Mississippi and other places."

The congressman and voting rights activist was 25 years old when he had his head fractured by law enforcement officers while peacefully marching along the bridge over the Alabama River to Montgomery in March 7, 1965. The march intended to call attention to black disenfranchisement in the South and followed the slaying of activist Jimmie Lee Jackson, who was shot by a state trooper during a peaceful civil rights protest.

Pakistan buries 'Father of Taliban' as PM orders probe of killing
[Al Ahram] A key Pak holy man with close ties to the Afghan Taliban
...Arabic for students...
who was killed in the garrison city of Rawalpindi was buried Saturday as Prime Minister Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who who convinced himself that playing cricket qualified him to lead a nuclear-armed nation with severe personality problems...
called for an investigation into the murder.

Maulana Sami Ul-Haq, dubbed the "Father of the Taliban", was stabbed to death by unknown intruders at his residence Friday night.

The holy man, who is in his 80s was buried in his hometown Akoda Khattak, around 115 kilometres (70 miles) northwest of Islamabad.

Thousands of people gathered for the funeral prayers guarded by dozens of police personnel while a bomb disposal squad cleared the graveyard before the holy man's body was brought for burial, an AFP news hound at the site said.

His seminary had produced some of the key leaders of the Afghan and Pak Taliban, something that the holy man and his associates would proudly tell visiting journalists.

The list of graduates written on the walls of the seminary includes the names of leaders of the Pak Taliban.

An investigation into the murder of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto
... 11th Prime Minister of Pakistain in two non-consecutive terms from 1988 until 1990 and 1993 until 1996. She was the daughter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, founder of the Pakistain People's Party, who was murdered at the instigation of General Ayub Khan. She was murdered in her turn by person or persons unknown while campaigning in late 2007. Suspects include, to note just a few, Baitullah Mehsud, General Pervez Musharraf, the ISI, al-Qaeda in Pakistain, and her husband, Asif Ali Zardari, who shows remarkably little curiosity about who done her in...
in 2007 revealed that the assassins had stayed at his seminary before travelling to Rawalpindi where Bhutto was killed.

The Afghan Taliban issued a statement terming his death "a great loss for the entire Islamic Ummah" (nation).

"He rendered unforgettable services and assistance to the oppressed Afghan nation against the Soviet and American invasions," the statement said.

Afghan envoys in Pakistain had reached out to him seeking his help in starting negotiations with the Afghan Taliban.

But analysts doubted if he had any sway with them.

"He did not had any influence on the Afghan Taliban but he supported their cause," analyst Rahimullah Yusufzai told AFP.

"Many of the leaders and fighters of the Afghan Taliban had studied at his madrassa," he said.

Pak media termed his death a blow to the Afghan grinding of the peace processor but Yusufzai doubted it, saying his death would have no impact on the talks as he was never part of any negotiations.

Social media users in Afghanistan termed him a "troublemaker".

"The Taliban have lost their father, now they are orphan," Bilal Noori, an Afghan, posted on Facebook.

His death was widely condemned in Pakistain by politicians and religious leaders, with the prime minister calling for an investigation into the murder.

In 2014, the holy man was a member of the negotiating committee from the homegrown Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) -- who brokered a ceasefire with the government, although the talks later failed.

He twice held roles as a member of Pakistain's Senate.

His JUI-S party was an ally of the ruling Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf

Iran starts domestic fighter jet production as US sanctions hit
[ALMASDARNEWS] Iran’s Defence Minister inaugurated the production of domestically designed fighter jets in Tehran on Saturday, a day after the US announced the reinstatement of sanctions on the country.

"Soon the necessary number of this aircraft will be produced. And it will be put at the service of the Air Force and the Army of the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran," Defence Minister Amir Hatami said at a ceremony to launch the Kowsar fighter jet’s production, which was broadcast on television.

All of the US sanctions, lifted under the 2015 Iran nuclear accord (also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action or JCPOA), are set to come back into effect on Monday.

Washington has been gradually reinstating sanctions against Iran after it pulled out of the nuclear deal in May.

Saudi Coalition prepares to launch biggest offensive on key Yemeni port
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Saudi-led Coalition is preparing to launch its biggest offensive to capture the strategic port-city of Hodeidah in western Yemen.

defenses near the Hodeidah Airport.

However,
a woman is only as old as she admits...
the Saudi Coalition’s advances have been limited near the Hodeidah Airport; they are expected to make a much bigger push in the coming days.

With tens of thousands of troops already deployed to this strategic area along the Red Sea coast, the Saudi-led Coalition is hoping to capture the last major port under Houthi control.

This will not be an easy task, however, as the Houthi forces have thousands of fighters inside and outside of Hodeidah city.

Most of these Houthi fighters are battle-tested and well-armed; they will make it very difficult for the Saudi-led Coalition troops to seize any ground around Hodeidah.

Britain
UK taxi driver sacked for refusing Remembrance poppies
[PRESSTV] A taxi driver working in Britannia’s city of Birmingham has been sacked because of refusing to carry poppies that are used for remembering war veterans.

The BBC said in a report on Saturday that the driver had been dismissed by the KMR Cars because of refusing to transport boxes of Remembrance poppies from a branch of The Royal British Legion to the Aston Villa football club in Birmingham.

Many in Britannia dislike the use of the Remembrance poppies, a tradition that has been in place since First World War to honor veterans of conflicts. They believe that poppies are dubiously used by politicians to sell wars, like those contributed by Britannia in Iraq and Afghanistan.

During their aerial assault on Hajin, the U.S. Coalition struck a civilian neighborhood, killing at least 15 civilians inside the town, state-owned al-Ikhbariya TV reported.

Among the dead were mostly women and kiddies that were hiding away from the airstrikes on Hajin, the al-Ikhbariya report added.

Syrian Army guns down jihadist fighters attempting to infiltrate from Idlib buffer zone
[ALMASDARNEWS] For the second time in the last three days, the jihadist rebels in the northern countryside of the Hama Governorate have tried to infiltrate the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) lines near the Idlib axis.

Led by Jaish al-Izza, the jihadist rebels attempted to bypass the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses south of al-Lataminah.

However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
before they could infiltrate the government’s lines, the jihadist rebels were spotted by Syrian military scouts that were positioned near the front-lines in northern Hama.

According to a military report from the Hama province, the Syrian Arab Army’s machine gunners opened fire on the group of rebels, killing and wounding most of them before they abandoned their mission.

The Syrian Arab Army then seized the weapons that were left behind by the rebels before reinforcing this area in northern Hama.

The rebel forces often attempt to bypass the Syrian Army’s lines in northern Hama to plant explosives along the government roads.

While they are caught most of the time, the jihadist rebels do occasionally infiltrate the government’s lines and plant land mines and improvised bombs (IED) along the government roads.

[Al Ahram] The Ottoman Turkish foreign ministry on Saturday recalled its ambassador to Uganda after she was photographed at a reception for The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
's annual Republic Day wearing a dress reportedly inspired by ancient Greece.

Ambassador Sedef Yavuzalp hosted the reception in Kampala for the annual October 29 holiday marking the founding of the modern Ottoman Turkish Republic in 1923 by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

The Twitter feed of Uganda's parliament, whose speaker Rebecca Kadaga was present at the event, posted pictures of Yavuzalp in a robe and an unnamed male Ottoman Turkish official in what appeared to be a toga.

The nationalist Sozcu daily on Saturday splashed the pictures on its front page, saying that Yavuzalp had dressed as Helen of Troy -- whose beauty according to Homer sparked the Trojan War -- and the assistant as the Greek god Zeus complete with an olive wreath on his head.

"A great scandal on Republic Day -- the ambassador was Helen and her assistant Zeus," it said.

Such associations go down badly with Ottoman Turkish nationalists who stringently emphasise the Ottoman Turkishness of the modern state despite the long history of Greek and Roman civilisation on its territory.

In a statement the foreign ministry said that "urgent investigations were launched after the publications of pictures on social media and press of our ambassador at the reception."

"In this framework, the ambassador has been recalled," it added, without giving further details.

Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu also tweeted that the ambassador had been called back.

Sozcu said that Yavuzalp is a career diplomat who has been posted in Kampala for the last five years.

Some reports said that the diplomat had been trying to promote the 2018 "Year of Troy", whose remains lay outside the city of Canakkale in western Turkey.

Britain
UK police launch criminal probe of anti-Semitism in Labour
About time. I wonder what made them decide to stop ignoring the problem.
[IsraelTimes] Dossier said to detail social media posts by party members, including one that read, ’We shall rid the Jews who are a cancer on us all’

British police have launched a criminal investigation into allegations of anti-Semitic hate crimes within the opposition Labour Party.

The Metropolitan Police said Friday that it was acting on a dossier of information given to London police chief Cressida Dick. A police front man said it was handed to her on September 4 following an interview on LBC radio.

LBC had in its possession an internal Labour Party dossier that detailed 45 cases involving social media posts by party members, including one post that read: "We shall rid the Jews who are a cancer on us all."

The police statement said the person making the complaint "alleged that the documentation included evidence of anti-Semitic hate crimes. The contents have been examined by specialist officers. A criminal investigation has commenced into some of the allegations within the documentation."

Police said they were seeking "early investigative advice" from the Crown Prosecution Service.

Dick told BBC radio there was evidence a crime may have been committed, based on the material given to her.

"If somebody passes us material which they say amounts to a crime we have a duty to look at that and not just dismiss it," she said.

"We have been assessing some material that was passed to me, in a radio studio of all things, about two months ago and we are now investigating some of that material, because it appears there may have been crime committed."

Police did not provide details about the possible hate crimes detailed in the dossier.

Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn has been dogged for the last two years by complaints of anti-Semitism within party ranks, as well as allegations that he too holds anti-Semitic views. He has said the party deplores all forms of racism.

Dick said Labour as a whole was not under investigation.

"We are not going to investigate the Labour Party. We would always want institutions and political parties and similar to be able to regulate themselves," she said. "I hope we will be able to clear that up very quickly."

Labour deputy leader Tom Watson told BBC radio that the investigation was "thoroughly depressing, although sadly I’m not surprised.

"If people have committed hate crimes, then they need to be dealt with by the full force of the law," he said. "There’s no role for them within the Labour Party.

"If this does one thing, it will be able to silence a very small number of people who still believe that anti-Semitism doesn’t exist in my party," which he said was hampering efforts to stamp out the problem.

Labour said it had not been contacted by the police but stood ready to cooperate with the investigation.

"The Labour Party has a robust system for investigating complaints of alleged breaches of Labour Party rules by its members," a front man said. "Where someone feels they have been a victim of crime, they should report it to the police in the usual way."
The Standard has details.

US army punishes six over roles in fatal Niger ambush
There was discussion about this here at Rantburg at the time.
[Al Ahram] The US Army has punished six people for their roles in a 2017 mission in Niger that resulted in the ambush deaths of four Americans and five allied Nigerien troops, The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

reported Saturday.

The ambush occurred on October 4, 2017 as a unit of 12 American special forces soldiers and 30 Nigerien troops, returning from a village near the Malian border, were overrun by scores of jihadists.

An investigative report released by the Pentagon in May said that while US soldiers had fought bravely and four "died with honor," they had not been properly prepared for the mission. Investigators cited "individual, organizational and institutional failures."

Those being disciplined, the Times said Saturday, include Captain Mike Perozeni, the leader of the Green Beret team, as well as his second in command, a master sergeant whose name has been withheld.

The paper said a letter of reprimand to Perozeni cited the insufficient training and a lack of mission rehearsals.

Two senior officers who approved the mission and oversaw the ill-fated operation were not reprimanded, according to the newspaper.

The Pentagon did not immediately respond to an AFP request for confirmation of the report's details.

It has been tight-lipped about the nature of the mission in Niger -- the existence of which surprised many Americans.

The Times account said Perozeni's Green Beret unit, Team 3212, had headed toward the Niger-Mali border in pursuit of an Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group leader named Doundoun Cheffou.

After intelligence located him, an operation was planned against the leader's camp by a helicopter-borne team of American commandos and Nigerien troops, along with Team 3212.

But bad weather led to the helicopter mission being canceled. Team 3212 proceeded to the now-empty campsite. It was ambushed by some 50 heavily armed Islamic State fighters while returning to its outpost.

The ambush claimed the largest loss of American lives in combat in Africa since the "Black Hawk Down" incident in Somalia in 1993.

It also touched off debate about the presence of the 800 American troops in Niger and the larger purpose of the US military in Africa.

General Thomas Waldhauser, head of Africa Command, said in May that US forces had since become "far more prudent" in their missions and had beefed up their firepower.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
The Palestinian leadership is desperate for legitimacy
[Al Jazeera] On October 30, as I was scrolling through news updates from Paleostine, I received a phone call from a friend. "It's that time of the year," she said through thunderous laughter, "when our self-proclaimed leadership decides to play peek-a-boo and threaten to end security coordination with Israel."

The Paleostinian Central Council (PCC) had announced that it authorised the Paleostine Liberation Organization (PLO) to suspend recognition of Israel and stop security coordination with Tel Aviv. It argued that the suspensions should remain in place until Israel recognises the Paleostinian state based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

We both laughed, but more at the tragedy of the situation than anything else. The PCC made the same announcement in 2015. The repetition was indeed tragic, and telling of the nature of these efforts - that they are mere considerations, nothing more than laughable scarecrow tactics.

Husband of Pakistan blasphemy case woman calls for her protection; lawyer flees country
[Al Ahram] The husband of a Pak Christian woman at the centre of a divisive
...politicians call things divisive when when the other side sez something they don't like. Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled...
blasphemy case on Saturday criticised a government deal with Islamists that left her in legal limbo, and called on authorities to protect her.

Asia Bibi, on death row since 2010 on blasphemy charges, was acquitted by the Supreme Court Wednesday and ordered set free, triggering protests by ultra-conservative Islamists who paralysed Pakistain for three days.

The government reached a deal Friday to end the protests by agreeing to a travel ban preventing Bibi from leaving the country, and saying it would not object to hardline movements appealing the verdict.

An appeal has been filed with the court.

"It is wrong to set a precedent in which you pile pressure onto the judiciary," Bibi's husband Ashiq Masih told German Deutsche Welle radio.

He said the government should never have yielded to pressure from protesters.

Blasphemy is a hugely inflammatory charge in Moslem-majority Pakistain, where even unproven allegations of insulting Islam and its Prophet Mohammed can spark attacks and killings at the hands of vigilante mobs.

Masih said the court had been "very courageous" to acquit his wife, an illiterate mother in her 50s whose case started in 2009 while she was working in the fields.

Citing religious reasons, two Moslem women at the time refused to share a glass of water with her and a fight erupted.

Several days later, the pair reported the incident to a local imam, who said Bibi insulted the prophet, a charge she denies.

"The current situation is very dangerous for us. We have no security and are hiding here and there, frequently changing our location," Masih said.

Bibi's lawyer fled Pakistain on Saturday, fearing for his life.

Masih demanded the government reinforce Bibi's protection in prison, worrying that she may be attacked. He cited the case of two Christian men who were rubbed out after a court acquitted them in another blasphemy case.

"The situation is dangerous for Asia. I feel that her life is not secure," he said. "So I appeal to government to enhance Asia's security in jail".

Afghan Shiite militia battles Taliban, raising sectarian fears
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A week of fighting between Talibs and fighters loyal to a commander from the mainly Shiite Hazara
...a grouping of Dari-speaking people of Sino-Tibetan descent inhabiting Afghanistan and Pakistain. They are predominantly Shia Moslems and not particularly warlike, which makes them favored targets...
minority has heightened fears of a dangerous new phase of sectarian violence in Afghanistan.

The festivities in the central province of Uruzgan, which have killed at least 21 people, have highlighted concerns that Hazaras, members of a mainly Shiite Persian-speaking minority targeted by ISIS terrorist group attacks over recent years, may take up arms in frustration at a lack of action by the government.

While the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
, made up mainly of ethnic Pashtun Sunni Moslems, has not explicitly targeted Hazaras in the past, officials fear the violence could escalate into an ethnic battle.

"The fighting is very intense and is now becoming an issue of ethnic violence between Hazara and Pashtun," said Amir Mohammad Barekzai, the provincial council chief. "The government must arrange a truce between them or there will be a massacre."

Sectarian violence had until recent years been relatively uncommon in Afghanistan but suicide kabooms at Shiite mosques and cultural centers by ISIS terrorist group as well as attacks on Hazaras travelling on provincial highways have fuelled growing anger. Many Hazaras blame Sunni Pashtuns for the attacks.

Afghan and Western security officials, fearing the kind of sectarian violence that has devastated Iraq, have been deeply concerned that Hazaras who fought in Iranian-backed militias in Syria could hit Sunni targets.

TAX ROW SPARKS VIOLENCE
The recent violence started when Taliban fighters attacked a remote cluster of Hazara villages in Uruzgan province after they refused to pay tax to the holy warriors, provincial officials said.

The Hazara commander, Abdul Hakim Shujaee, a former leader in the US-funded Afghan Local Police, has been accused of serious human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
abuses and faces an arrest order from the central government, which has struggled to impose its authority on remote parts of the country.

He commands hundreds of Hazara fighters and remains free because of his connections with powerful political figures in Kabul, local officials say.

Uruzgan, squeezed between the Taliban heartlands of Kandahar and Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
and the Hazara-dominated province of Daikondi, is home to both Pashtuns and Hazara families and the two groups have long had an uneasy co-existence.

Asadullah Sayed, the governor of Uruzgan, said fighting broke out between two gangs in three villages of Khas Uruzgan district last week and government forces have been deployed to end the conflict.

He put the number of dead at 21 but a government security official said 43 people had been killed so far on both sides, many more maimed and some 300 families have fled the area.

The Taliban normally collect taxes from local residents in areas under their control to fund their insurgency but Hazara families defied them, setting off a fierce shootout, he said.

The case echoes a standoff last month in central Ghor province involving a prominent Hazara commander called Alipur, known as "Commander Sword", seen by supporters as a kind of Robin Hood figure but denounced by the government as a bandit.

Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebels says it has advanced towards the western city of Hodeidah, hours after residents reported a barrage of air raids targeting the strategic port city.

Residents in Hodeidah told Al Jazeera on Saturday that the United States-backed alliance launched more than 25 air raids, targeting rebel-held locations on the city's edges.

Yemeni journalist Manal Qaed said the sound of fighter jets dropping bombs pierced through the sky late into the afternoon, with civilians fearing to venture out of their homes.

The Houthi-affiliated al-Masirah news outlet said more than 60 raids targeted Kilo-16 and its surrounding areas, wounding four civilians.

Kilo-16 is the main highway linking Hodeidah city with the rebel-held capital, Sanaa.

Aid agencies have long warned that fighting in Hodeidah risks escalating the dire humanitarian crisis in Yemen, where about half the population - some 14 million people - could soon be on the verge of famine.

Zimbabwe: HIV Cure Claims - Magaya in Court
[All Africa] PROPHETIC Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries leader Walter Magaya, who recently announced that he has discovered a herb that can cure HIV and Aids, yesterday appeared in court charged with contravening section 40 (1) of the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act, which criminalises the distribution and misleading advertisement of medicine.

Magaya -- who was represented by Admire Rubaya, Everson Chatambudza and Oliva Marwa -- appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Elisha Singano.

He was released on $300 bail and the matter was remanded to November 29.

It is the State's case that on October 31, Magaya made an advertisement on Yadah television of Aguma medicine, which he claimed can cure HIV, AIDS, cancer and other ailments.

He further made claims on Aretha Medical website, his company, that Aretha Medical and himself were the manufacturers of the Aguma medicine. Local and international media also published stories based on the advertisement of the Aguma medicine that Magaya had made.

The said website was visited and it was discovered that Magaya claimed that they had conducted clinical trials and proved that Aguma medicine can cure the mentioned diseases.

It is alleged that verifications were made through the Medicines Control Authority of Zim-bob-we (MCAZ) on their records and it was established that Aguma was neither a registered medicine nor drug in Zim-bob-we.

It was also established that neither Magaya nor Aretha Medical Company were authorised by the Health Professions Authority to carry out clinical tests on any human being to prove that Aguma can cure the aforementioned diseases, which constituted an offence.

On October 31, a warrant of search and seizure was issued at the Harare Provincial Magistrates Court and a search was conducted at number 14 Edinburg Road Marlborough, Harare, where unregistered, prescription preparatory medicines, drug manufacturing, packaging machines and drugs manufacturing raw materials were recovered.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Saudi sisters found dead in New York ‘were not killed,’ US police source says
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] New York police said that the mysterious death of the two Saudi sisters, who were found tied together with duct tape at their feet and bound at the waist near the Riverside Park in the Upper West Side of Manhattan, could have been a double suicide.

Tala Farea, 16, and Rotana Farea, 22, had been living in Fairfax, Virginia with their mother, but Rotana had moved to live in New York. The family are Saudi nationals from Jeddah.

Investigators said that witness testimonies, evidence and the sisters’ credit card purchases reveal that there was no evidence they had been killed.

Suicide is among the hypotheses as to the cause of their deaths.

The two young women moved to New York two months before they died, where they stayed in five-star hotels and spent their time shopping.

"At this point in time we have no credible information that a crime took place in New York City... but it is still under investigation," Dermot Shea, the city’s chief of detectives, said Friday.

...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. 's US embassy in Washington, tweeted that "Reports that we ordered anyone related to the Saudi sisters, Tala and Rotana Farea, God rest their souls, (who recently died tragically in NY), to leave the US for seeking asylum; are absolutely false."

"Details are still under investigation and will be shared in due course," she said.

THE 'BINDING' TAPE
The tape that was found around the women’s bodies gave rise to speculation, but Shea said it was not so much as "binding" the women together but rather "keeping them together."

Investigators interviewed sources close to the sisters who revealed that the women said "they would rather hurt themselves than return to their families."

Shea added that the sisters were last seen by their family in Virginia on November 30 last year.

ALLEGATIONS OF ABUSE
According to Shea, authorities placed the sisters in a "shelter-like" facility in Virginia in December 2017 after allegations of abuse and torture at the hands of their family were reported. The allegations were made against their brother, mother and father.

CCTV footage showed that the sisters were in good health before their death, and had stayed at a number of high-end hotels in the city.

Shea said that their financial situation began to change when their credit card was "maxed out."

The Saudi consulate confirmed that it was conducting investigations with local authorities, the State Department and the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Washington

The consulate confirmed that it immediately appointed a lawyer to follow up the legal process of the case and will clarify the most important developments as soon as they are received.

The females previously living in Fairfax VA — identified as Rotana Farea, 22, and Tala Farea, 16 — applied for asylum in the U.S. before they went missing & found washed ashore on Oct. 24, according to the New York Police Department.

The mother of the women told detectives that the day before their bodies were discovered, she received a phone call from the Saudi Arabian Embassy, the New York Post reported, citing police sources.

The Embassy reportedly told her that her family's residency in the U.S. was in jeopardy because Rotana and Tala applied for immigration asylum. The following day, their bodies were found in the Hudson River on the Upper West Side.

"Reports that we ordered anyone related to the Saudi sisters, Tala and Rotana Farea, God rest their souls, (who recently died tragically in NY), to leave the US for seeking asylum; are absolutely false."

WHO Seeks To Contain Cholera Outbreak In Somalia Amid Decline In Cases
[RADIOSHABELLE] The World Health Organization (WHO) is stepping up measures to contain cholera outbreak in Somalia amid decline in the number of cases and deaths in the past month.

The UN health agency, which cited figures from the Health Ministry of Somalia, said 32 new suspected cases of cholera, including one death were reported between Oct. 15-21.

"Since week 28 (seven weeks), there has been a significant downward trend in the number of new suspected cholera cases reported from different treatment facilities," WHO said in its latest report released on Friday.

"The cumulative total of cases is 6,498, including 43 associated deaths (case-fatality rate 0.6 percent), since the beginning of the current outbreak in December 2017 along the Shabelle River," it added.

Cholera is a gastrointestinal disease, usually spread by contaminated water and food, and can cause severe diarrhea that, in extreme cases, lead to fatal dehydration and kidney failure within hours.

China-Japan-Koreas
N Korea ‘to resume nuke development’ if US sanctions remain
[PRESSTV] North Korea has warned that it could restart building up its nuclear arsenal if the US fails to remove its sanctions against the country.

The warning came in a foreign ministry statement issued by Pyongyang on Friday under the name of the director of the ministry’s Institute for American Studies, insisting that "improvement of relations and sanctions is incompatible."

The ministry further emphasized that North Korea could bring back its "pyongjin" policy of simultaneously pursuing nuclear weapons alongside economic development if the US fails to revise its position on the issue.

Pyongyang has accused the US of reneging on it commitments made by North Korean leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...

at their June summit in Singapore to work towards a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula, without defining how and when the process would occur.

Earlier on Friday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo revealed in an interview with Fox News of his plans to talk next week with his North Korean counterpart, apparently referring to senior North Korean official Kim Yong Chol.

, the student wing of Bangladesh, during a police raid.

The incident took place in Chandanpura area of the city’s Chawkbazar around 7:45pm on Saturday, Chittagong Metropolitan Police’s (CMP) Additional Commissioner Amena Begum told the Dhaka Tribune.

She said the blasts inside the Shibir office occurred about 15 minutes into a regular block raid of CMP in that area and afterwards led police to raid that building.

No casualties were reported.

CMP Assistant Deputy Commissioner Shah Md Abdur Rouf confirmed the Dhaka Tribune that they had heard at least five to seven powerful kabooms in the three-storey building.

He said the bomb disposal unit searched the building and Shibir office for more explosives.

Later, CMP Deputy Commissioner Mehedi Hasan said that six handmade bombs were recovered during the search in a room of that office, reports UNB.

He said no arrests were also made as the Shibir leaders and activists who were there at the time of the blast had managed to flee the scene.

Don Lemon: 'I Apologize If Any Evil White People Were Offended By My Remarks’
[Babylon Bee] After CNN anchor Don Lemon made controversial comments calling white men "the biggest terror threat in this country," the host somberly apologized on his program, stating he never intended to offend "all the evil white men who watch this program."

Backlash against Lemon's remarks was swift, and so he appeared the following evening to express his regret over his inflammatory rhetoric that "may have hurt all the evil white people in America."

"My remarks were insensitive to white men, the scourge of this nation, and for that I am extremely sorry," he said. "It was never my intention to cause offense to the disgusting, wretched, mouth-breathing people who make up the white American males in this country."

Lemon further acknowledged that he may have mischaracterized white people when he called them terrorists. "I said they were terrorists, and that's unacceptable. They're actually demon-possessed monsters bent on destroying all of humanity. I regret the error."

Shortly after his apology, Lemon kicked off another impassioned speech blaming white men for causing racial division in the country. "It's all the fault of the people with the wrong colored skin," he said.

Herb dear, while you are often a delight, you could have pointed out the error without the insult. It is the insult that caused the reaction, not the pointing out, which probably was received with silent relief by those of our readers who also weren’t familiar with the Babylon Bee approach — or, it being a short night after we lost an hour changing to standard time (except Hawaii and most of Arizona — you know who you are) they need more coffee or coffee-equivalents to reach their normal Sunday perceptiveness. ;-)

'We have to stop demonizing people and realize the biggest terror threat in this country is white men, most of them radicalized to the right, and we have to start doing something about them.’

This statement may have appeared in the Babylon Bee. However, I watched Don Lemon state this on CNN while talking to Chris Cuomo. Don't be an apologist for Don Lemon and his racism. Racism is never cool. A parody is a ludricous immitation with comedy assumed of a thing, situation or a person. The only parody is Don Lemon himself. He is a ludicrous immitation of a newsperson or commentator.

Otherwise, what others have said here.

Iraq
Tens of people killed, injured in weapon stash explosion, east of Salahuddin
Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) An kaboom of a weapon stash of the pro-government paramilitary troops has left two people killed and tens of others injured, in Tuz Khurmatu region, east of Salahuddin, BasNews reported on Saturday.

"An kaboom took place, in the afternoon, at a weapon stash of Hezbollah militia, one of the factions of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) near Tuz Khurmatu police command," Mulla Karim, from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in Hamrin, said.

According to sources, the kaboom left two personnel of the PMFs killed and 31 others injured. The maimed people included two women and a child, while the rest were from the PMFs.

In August, twenty people were killed and injured as a weapon stash for the pro-government paramilitary troops went kaboom! in Karbala.

PMFs store weapons at populated regions, which endangers people’s lives, according to media reports.

A similar kaboom previously took place in Husseiniya region in Sadr City, which left around 50 houses destroyed, tens of people killed and injured.

The Shia-led fighters get part of its weapons and ammunition from Iran, either in the form of gifts or sales, that Iraqi government should pay for.

PMFs, an alliance of more than 60 mostly Shia militias, have been actively engaged in the government’s campaign that ran since October 2016 against the Islamic State

One US soldier was killed and one was injured during an "apparent insider attack" in Kabul on Saturday, NATO officials stated Saturday.

"Initial reports indicate the attacker was a member of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces," NATO’s Resolute Support mission said in a statement, adding that the attacker was killed by "other Afghan forces."
The only bright spot in this affair.
The mission also reported that the maimed serviceman was flown to a medical facility at Bagram Airfield, in stable, pH balanced condition. An investigation into the case is underway, the statement said without providing any specific details on the incident.

Citizens seek damages, file legal complaints against TLP protests
[DAWN] A petition seeking damages for the destruction of public property during protests led by the Tehrik-e-Labbaik Pakistain (TLP) was filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Saturday.

The protests had broken out across the country after the Supreme Court's verdict on October 30 acquitting Asia Bibi, a Christian woman previously condemned to death on blasphemy charges.

The petition submitted by citizen Abdullah Malik states that the TLP protests have caused considerable damage to government and public property.

It added that the protection of the lives and wealth of the citizen was the first responsibility of the government and added that not doing so had violated citizens' fundamental rights.

The petition asked the court to issue orders to the Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

government to compensate for all damage caused to citizens.

Separately, two first information reports (FIRs) were registered in Islamabad's cop shoppe against mob violence in the capital city.

The FIRs were registered against more than a hundred people, of which 20 are members of religiopolitical parties.

Those named in the FIRs have been accused of injuring police officials and violating Section 144 of the Criminal Procedures Code, which had been imposed in the capital city ahead of the protests.

Minister for Communications Murad Saeed also promised to bring to justice those who damaged public property, including national highways and motorways.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the officer said "the army’s artillery bombarded Islamic State pockets 10 kilometers in the depth of Syrian lands."

The target behind the shelling in Syria "is to paralyze the turbans there and deliver a message that security troops are ready to eradicate in case they attacked the troops," the officer told Almaalomah website.

"Security plans are drawn to target Islamic State members, in case they approached the Iraqi lands," he added.
